Two airline pilots have been remanded in custody -

after being charged with being drunk while in control of an aircraft.

They were arrested at Glasgow airport yesterday -

just before they were about to fly a plane carrying 350

people to Canada. Catriona Renton reports.

21 hours after it should have departed, the flight finally got on

its way, taking its 345 passengers to Toronto. He is today its pilots

were stopped before they boarded the plane. They were breathalysed

following a tip-off they had been drinking heavily the night before.

Police arrested the men charged them. Passengers were not told the

attack happened. Among them some famous faces. I'm pleased it has

happened in a weird way because I am glad the people on the ground

respond to these things and someone put vigilant and said, this plane

isn't going to go today because of passenger safety, which is important

thing. We were told was an operational decision to cancel the

flight but they told you very little information. I've never had any

problems at all with this airline, none, and since this has happened

they are bending over backwards to be apologetic. This afternoon here

at Paisley Court, the captain and his first officer both from Canada,

appeared in private, charged under section 93 of the railway and

transport safety act in relation to being intoxicated while in control

of an aircraft. They made no plea or declaration and are expected to

appear in court again next week. They were remanded in custody and

taken away from court. The rules for airline pilots about alcohol

consumption are stricter than for motorists. The legal limit is 20 mg

in every 100 millilitres. The airline has apologised to its

customers and offered them compensation of 200 Canadian dollars

off their next flight. They say the safety of their passengers and crew

is their priority. The rescheduled flight has now touched down in

200 construction jobs are to go in Scotland,

after the leading construction firm - Dunne Group - announced it's gone

The West Lothian based business will bring in the cuts

with immediate effect - as Bruce McKenzie reports.

With its headquarters in Bathgate, Dunne Group's high-profile jobs in

Scotland include the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, and

Maggie 's cancer care centres. Its turnover last year was ?74 million

and it was forecast to grow that to ?96 million this year. But the

administrator says severe cash flow issues mean the company will cease

trading immediately, they blame substantial trading losses on some

contracts, coupled with the financial pressures of rapid

expansion. In total 524 jobs will go, around 200 in Scotland.

The incident at the address in Aberdeen is believed to have been

contained. It's the hottest day

of the year so far - with temperatures rising as high

as 29 degrees celsius. Much of Scotland has been basking

lightning, some hail, and if the thunder and lightning doesn't keep

you awake then the sheer humidity across the country almost certainly

will, with temperatures around 14 to 23 Celsius. In two tomorrow morning,

we will see this next batch of heavy, thundery downpours moving in

to southern and central Scotland, if you're heading out tomorrow morning,

you are likely to encounter some tricky driving conditions. Perhaps

some hail in the mix, too. Try in the North of Scotland also in the

far north we will hold onto some heavy, thundery showers into the

likes of Orkney. Through the course of the day, will continue to see

these heavy, thundery downpours moving through Central, Eastern and

northern Scotland primarily, something drier and perhaps brighter

feeding into a Western, Central and Southern area scanned the afternoon.
