Edinburgh's Hogmanay celebrations are well underway,

with the world famous street party, and a fireworks display at midnight.

Andrew Black is out on Princes Street.

We are here on Princes Street in Edinburgh, the main Hogmanay

celebrations, things are happening, well under way, the gates opened at

nine o'clock. Thousands of people streaming in. In fact this is a

sell-out, 75,000 revellers all having a great time, as you can see,

hear on Princes Street. More than 80 countries around the world will be

watching. Bands have been playing, that they crescendo is at midnight

with a gigantic firework display from Edinburgh Castle. The weather

is looking good, people in good spirits. I think we're looking at a

pretty good night ahead. Andy Murray has been knighted

in the New Year's Honours list, after an extraordinary

year of success. Other sports stars were recognised,

along with Scots from academia, the world of business and charity

workers. This sounds strange, obviously. Big

honour. Recognition for my results over the last few years. I'm more

happy being known as Andy, fine by me. In his hometown of Dunblane, the

honour is seen as a fitting tribute for the young man who has never

forgotten his roots. I would put him up there with the greatest, what he

has achieved over the last couple of years. He will go down as an

all-time great British sportsmen. Fantastic he deserves every bit of

it. The latest, great guy from Dunblane. The whole family do so

much for us. This is icing on the cake, as far as his career is

concerned. Sir Andy Murray, brilliant, fantastic news. There is

an MBE for Gordon Reid for services to wheelchair tennis. Katherine

Grainger, the first woman to win five medals at five games becomes a

dame for services to Reading and charity. This year feels like not

just a stepping stone, and amazing springboard into what comes next.

Having a title to my name, I feel a sense of responsibility, I need to

go and do something, make another big step, have more impact on a

greater sense. Elsewhere glass-blowers, church organist, High

Court judges and voluntary workers among 100 Scots to be recognised for

their contribution to Scottish life and society.

Good evening, after the rain this afternoon, much drier prospects,

certainly in time for the bells. It will be turning quite chilly. There

is the earlier rain, claiming south of the border around midnight. For

many Central parts, dry, a few spots of light rain holding on in the

south. Chiellini. Further north, a rash of showers, some of those

wintry, some sleet and low levels of snow. Down to around 200 metres. A

cold and bitter feel. A Met Office yellow warning, ice warning across

north-western parts tonight. Icy stretches, especially on untreated

roads and services. Tomorrow, not too bad to start 2017. 20 of

sunshine in the forecast, still some showers across the North, wintry at

times, meaning southwards, tending to fizzle and fade away. A cold day,

5-6 C. On that cold northerly, a bitter feel despite the sun. That is
