Plenty more on this throughout the day. | :00:00. | :00:00.
Now for the latest financial news with Sally | :00:00. | :00:07.
The mega merger in the brewing industry is near completion | :00:08. | :00:19.
but what does the tie-up of Anheuser-Busch InBev | :00:20. | :00:21.
and SABMiller mean for jobs and consumers? | :00:22. | :00:27.
Could this be the end of the Samsung Note 7 Smartphone, | :00:28. | :00:30.
after 3 replacement phones catch fire? | :00:31. | :00:33.
There are reports Samsung is halting production. | :00:34. | :00:45.
We will also have a look at the fancy new ways cars are being | :00:46. | :00:59.
designed. It's more than likely that | :01:00. | :01:00.
by the end of the day the worlds' two largest | :01:01. | :01:03.
brewers will be saying "cheers" to a mega-merger that leads | :01:04. | :01:05.
to one company controlling nearly a third of the | :01:06. | :01:08.
worlds' beer market. So what does the tie up | :01:09. | :01:11.
of Anheuser-Busch InBev and SABMiller mean for | :01:12. | :01:13.
the industry and beer drinkers? Well it's a deal worth $104 billion | :01:14. | :01:17.
and, as I mentioned, combines the world's | :01:18. | :01:20.
two biggest brewers. The newly-created firm will produce | :01:21. | :01:24.
about a third of the world's beer. Belgium-based AB InBev's brands | :01:25. | :01:28.
include Stella Artois, Corona and Budweiser, | :01:29. | :01:31.
while UK-based SABMiller produces But not only will the name SAB | :01:32. | :01:34.
Miller go in the take over - Over the next few years AB InBev | :01:35. | :01:42.
is expected to gradually cut about 3% - that's around 5,500 jobs | :01:43. | :01:47.
from its enlarged workforce. The job cuts will form part | :01:48. | :01:54.
of an annual savings drive amounting And despite the newly formed company | :01:55. | :01:57.
having a 30% market share, the competition in the beer | :01:58. | :02:04.
market is fierce. All mass-market brewers are looking | :02:05. | :02:07.
to cut production and distribution costs in the face of rivalry | :02:08. | :02:11.
from smaller independent brands With me is Simon Griffiths | :02:12. | :02:13.
a Partner at Irwin Mitchell. Good morning. Thank you for coming | :02:14. | :02:34.
in. The ink is drying on the deal but talk us through what these two | :02:35. | :02:39.
big brewing companies had to do to allow regulators and competition | :02:40. | :02:44.
authorities to give the go-ahead? They were not going to sleep | :02:45. | :02:50.
monopolise the market, they had to sell businesses in central Europe | :02:51. | :02:57.
and China. The process started in 11 months ago and finally got the | :02:58. | :03:03.
clearance in September. The ink dried at the end of last week. | :03:04. | :03:09.
SABMiller Has now been taken over. It is a huge deal. Talk us through | :03:10. | :03:19.
what the company will do first? The newlyformed company will be creating | :03:20. | :03:25.
efficiency of scale, laying off a few people, I think 3% of the | :03:26. | :03:32.
workforce being laid off, in the context of the deal, which is one | :03:33. | :03:38.
third of the beer market, over 100,000 employee is, I think people | :03:39. | :03:45.
can respect that. It is not too great a loss. For the other | :03:46. | :03:51.
competitors, the small Independent brewers everyone is concerned about, | :03:52. | :03:56.
the likes of Heineken, what about them? It will keep them on their | :03:57. | :04:04.
toes. They are not the leaders. This is the leader. It is for hard work | :04:05. | :04:11.
for them. And more consolidation between other companies? Perhaps. I | :04:12. | :04:19.
think the deal is a great success for the South Africans who brought | :04:20. | :04:30.
SABMiller in 2000. It has been sold for 70 a billion, 17 times multiple, | :04:31. | :04:39.
it is a great success story. And for beer drinkers? I am a beer drinker | :04:40. | :04:46.
and I will have to consume its products. Thank you very much | :04:47. | :04:48.
indeed. More news on that later. Samsung has suspended production | :04:49. | :04:52.
of its Galaxy Note 7smartphones following reports of fires in at | :04:53. | :04:55.
least three replacement devices. This is according to reports | :04:56. | :04:59.
in South Korean media and marks a further setback for thetech giant | :05:00. | :05:03.
trying to manage its worst ever Rico Hizon is in our | :05:04. | :05:06.
Asia Business Hub in Singapore. The problems are piling up for | :05:07. | :05:26.
Samsung Electronics. The media is saying the decision to suspend was | :05:27. | :05:31.
made as some US carriers stopped sales of the devise due to more | :05:32. | :05:38.
concerns about the batteries. It is impacting shares, it is down by | :05:39. | :05:45.
around 5% in sole trading. Suspending production is at the | :05:46. | :05:50.
latest blow. The device has a ready scene airlines worldwide ban | :05:51. | :05:55.
passengers from using them and our York AT and others stopping sales | :05:56. | :06:05.
over safety concerns. Analysts are now estimating this debacle could | :06:06. | :06:12.
costs Samsung electronic billions of dollars and this is in addition to | :06:13. | :06:19.
mounting pressure to break up the empire into two. That it separates | :06:20. | :06:25.
into an operating company and a holding company and by doing this it | :06:26. | :06:29.
would be more due diligence, transparency and dividends that | :06:30. | :06:34.
could benefit shareholders and stockholders of the company. Thank | :06:35. | :06:38.
you very much indeed. In the past, cars were built almost | :06:39. | :06:40.
by a process of trial and error. You built a prototype, | :06:41. | :06:44.
then tested it to find out Nowadays, much of that work | :06:45. | :06:47.
is done by computers. Our reporter Theo Leggett has been | :06:48. | :06:51.
to the Paris Motor show to see how 3D simulations are being used | :06:52. | :06:55.
by designers to refine their work in the virtual world before a single | :06:56. | :06:58.
panel has been built When they are trying to win | :06:59. | :07:12.
championship or making sure it is fuel-efficient, aerodynamics really | :07:13. | :07:18.
matter. We have come down to a small company who specialise in hopping | :07:19. | :07:22.
big car companies perfect that scientific art. Stephen is the | :07:23. | :07:29.
president and chief executor and Paul will operate the technical | :07:30. | :07:36.
side. We can put on our 3-D glasses and look at the visualisation and | :07:37. | :07:40.
that will explain exactly what we are doing. We have a car. We are | :07:41. | :07:47.
looking at the aerodynamics of this vehicle and in particular how to | :07:48. | :07:52.
make it more efficient so it has lower CO2 emissions and meets | :07:53. | :07:56.
stringent government regulations. We are looking at one particular design | :07:57. | :08:02.
attribute, the air curtain on the front bumper. We are trying to | :08:03. | :08:07.
manage the air efficiently to go around the car, particularly around | :08:08. | :08:13.
the front tyre. You want the air to be very close to the body. Why does | :08:14. | :08:21.
this matter? Fuel economy, CO2 emissions, new regulations are | :08:22. | :08:27.
getting harder and harder. This is how we have to go about it. Let's | :08:28. | :08:32.
take these ridiculous 3-D glasses off and look at one of the cars you | :08:33. | :08:38.
have been working on. Here we have the actual car that we saw in the | :08:39. | :08:46.
computer simulation. You see the air curtain. That is exactly what you | :08:47. | :08:54.
saw in the computer model. Its goal is to capture some of the air going | :08:55. | :08:58.
around the car and efficiently scoop it in and manage it around the front | :08:59. | :09:06.
tyre. It is one thing to have the computer display but here we have a | :09:07. | :09:11.
solid car, you can test it. Does it work? Tested and certified. Promises | :09:12. | :09:15.
promises. In other news, the entertainment | :09:16. | :09:17.
company co-owned by Hollywood director, Steven Spielberg, | :09:18. | :09:20.
has signed a partnership deal with a major Chinese | :09:21. | :09:22.
production company. Amblin Partners will join | :09:23. | :09:23.
with the Alibaba Group to produce films for western | :09:24. | :09:26.
and Chinese markets. Alibaba Pictures, which is led | :09:27. | :09:28.
by the e-commerce billionaire, Jack Ma, will acquire a minority | :09:29. | :09:30.
stake in Amblin as part Looking at the markets: the Mexican | :09:31. | :09:48.
peso up 1.5% following the televised debate between Donald Trump and | :09:49. | :09:54.
Hillary Clinton. Just to show you, most major markets are closed for a | :09:55. | :10:02.
public holiday. This is Australia at the top. I will see you soon. | :10:03. | :10:16.
The government has ruled out forcing British company to reveal how many | :10:17. | :10:24.
foreign workers they employ. The data will not be made | :10:25. | :10:26. |
