It was time for the ladies to take centre stage as two former champions

:00:08.:00:45.

faced off at Potters for the women's singles title. Rebecca Field and

:00:46.:00:53.

Faulkner have tasted winning beforement action from the lady's

:00:54.:00:58.

final coming right up. Yes, hello, welcome to highlights from the

:00:59.:01:02.

lady's singles final at the World Indoor Bowls Championships at the

:01:03.:01:09.

poth ter's Leisure resort. It's lady's first tonight. And first up -

:01:10.:01:14.

Ellen Falkner, 36-year-old, two-time winner of this title and she's

:01:15.:01:19.

hoping to get her hands on it after a 10-year absence. She's up against

:01:20.:01:26.

Rebecca Field who won this trophy three years ago, at just 23 years of

:01:27.:01:32.

age. We're going to stage with Rebecca leading.

:01:33.:01:49.

APPLAUSE Sent that one up on the mark all

:01:50.:02:31.

right Two perfect bowls. Yes, three inches short of jack.

:02:32.:02:47.

Another useful one. Better than useful. She falls in. A smile from

:02:48.:02:59.

Rebecca. I think she knows she's playing well. That eases the tension

:03:00.:03:14.

and pressure. Last night it got scrappy towards the end, but, well,

:03:15.:03:20.

this is a difficult head for Ellen. She really can't do much with this.

:03:21.:03:24.

Almost having to go for cover and defend the shot. And why she's just

:03:25.:03:30.

tried to drop around her ball. Again, it's a useful bowl. It's hard

:03:31.:03:35.

to believe that even at this stage she's very vulnerable, but that ball

:03:36.:03:40.

going out and the jack being turned. Rebecca has basically got all the

:03:41.:03:46.

play here. She's gone chasing the inside line, Andy. She won't hold up

:03:47.:03:51.

then. No, definitely not. Big swinging balls and... Didn't have

:03:52.:04:06.

the set of balls for size. There was a set set up to her. But changed

:04:07.:04:09.

colour. The manufacturer actually agreed to make a set and get them

:04:10.:04:12.

sent up. Good, good for them. Yeah. Well, once again - Ellen just

:04:13.:04:28.

staying away from it. I tell you what - she's a bit closer than I

:04:29.:04:35.

think she wanted to be. Well, oh! Mmm, that's set up the angle. A very

:04:36.:04:42.

good shot on here. In fact, if anything, Andy, that's really

:04:43.:04:48.

helped. Yes. A poor ball from Ellen. I don't think she wanted it there.

:04:49.:04:52.

This gives Rebecca a chance to use her last ball. She can force it

:04:53.:04:57.

through a bit if she wants it stun off the ball or be a bit wider and

:04:58.:05:03.

come off the edge. A loss closer this time. She's very close. And she

:05:04.:05:08.

might be using Ellen's ball. There's the stun, Thailand's the jack.

:05:09.:05:11.

Exactly. I'm afraid Ellen - that was your own doing. Yep. I think it's 1

:05:12.:05:22.

degree. Could have been a lot worse. See Rebecca playing about four or

:05:23.:05:27.

five feet away, uses the ball, moves the jack. If she played down and got

:05:28.:05:32.

the ball and then the jack, could have been three. Ellen being on the

:05:33.:05:44.

time-out. A shot available. A lot of danger here. I think she can afford

:05:45.:05:48.

to play through this - Ellen. I don't see a lot of danger. I think

:05:49.:05:53.

what she's looking at is getting into the red ball, Andy - because if

:05:54.:05:57.

she does that and gets into the jack, she can extend it down to this

:05:58.:06:03.

position. Only danger I see for her is coming off at some sort of an

:06:04.:06:06.

angle on the red and her bottom red ball disappearing. But it looks

:06:07.:06:10.

completely hidden to me. I can't her getting a bad result by hitting this

:06:11.:06:15.

target. It's all in her favour. Basically just hit the target and I

:06:16.:06:19.

think she'll score here. Famous last words! LAUGHS.

:06:20.:06:24.

Well, backhand split will be bad but we'll see. Yep, going for it. We'll

:06:25.:06:32.

see the result. Front ball is perfect result. Yep. That was it.

:06:33.:06:37.

And it looked good and she's going to come out with four shots. What a

:06:38.:06:41.

brilliant turnover. We knew it was possible. It's exactly what

:06:42.:06:44.

happened. Absolutely perfect. That's what I thought. Just couldn't see it

:06:45.:06:51.

going wrong for her. Four shots - Ellen Falkner. There's a big turn

:06:52.:06:57.

around now. She's been accurate with her driving in this event. Set scour

:06:58.:07:08.

9-7. Very good shot player. It's a massive at that stage. Ninth end is

:07:09.:07:11.

always critical. Yes, especially. She was two down. One down on the

:07:12.:07:16.

head. Looking to probably struggle to win this set. However, the four

:07:17.:07:19.

gives her a big chance of whipping it. 28.5m. Well, all of a sudden,

:07:20.:07:31.

Ellen has gone favourite now. APPLAUSE

:07:32.:08:21.

Be looking to get one or two here. 12 inches. Either one behind or

:08:22.:08:27.

level. Yeah, after the disappointment at the last end,

:08:28.:08:31.

that's a good delivery from Rebecca. She would have been stunned

:08:32.:08:33.

slightly. That's the adjustment. Might just

:08:34.:08:42.

hold up for the shot. Slightly favour your bowl. It's

:08:43.:09:11.

close. Wow! She's left herself just a

:09:12.:09:42.

little bit open here. Gentleman yes. Chance for Rebecca, to - well, we're

:09:43.:09:49.

uncertain as to whose line, but at least 14 inches to draw the shot.

:09:50.:09:53.

Looks like the winner coming in. And gets in front of the jack, Andy, and

:09:54.:09:58.

could make three. Yes, she can. That was perfect. That was created by

:09:59.:10:03.

Ellen's last ball, it was dropped short. And Rebecca will be

:10:04.:10:05.

absolutely delighted with that. There's no way of getting out of

:10:06.:10:09.

this one - a running ball. Here we see Rebecca's third delivery.

:10:10.:10:12.

Touches the jack. Scores three. Perfect ball. Yes, she was happy

:10:13.:10:26.

with that. Timeout called. Ellen has three time-outs remaining. Well. No

:10:27.:10:35.

running ball here on for Ellen. A lot of pressure on it. She's a good

:10:36.:10:40.

strong bias ball. Push it out, give it a chance to get back. It's a long

:10:41.:10:46.

jack length. But she drives the shot, it almost guarantees her the

:10:47.:10:50.

set. But if she misses, well, she's in all sorts of trubling going into

:10:51.:10:53.

the last end. Doesn't want to be too heavy but

:10:54.:11:21.

she's in with a chance here. Doesn't want the gap here. Bowl first. Oh,

:11:22.:11:26.

dropped back for the shot. That was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant

:11:27.:11:27.

ball! APPLAUSE

:11:28.:11:31.

Under pressure, and it looks like the shot to us. Certainly the shot.

:11:32.:11:39.

One red. Oh, that was just a great bowl, really. It is, Andy. I thought

:11:40.:11:44.

she was going through the gap, wanted the ball first, missed that

:11:45.:11:48.

and then she got the drop back. Rebecca will be down in the

:11:49.:11:52.

forehand, she's got a chance to turn the ball out and still make the

:11:53.:11:58.

three or four. Well, this is a hard shot, Andy. It might be worth going

:11:59.:12:01.

stronger. I think she's got to go stronger. Yep, she is. Oh, the body

:12:02.:12:11.

language tells you it's not right! Well, she's not finished yet! She

:12:12.:12:14.

knew that out of her hand it wasn't on the right line. Was hoping for a

:12:15.:12:19.

bit of luck. It's a great ball by Ellen, though. Two last bowls

:12:20.:12:25.

delivery by Ellen, previous end and this end, that are strong favourite

:12:26.:12:27.

for the set. APPLAUSE

:12:28.:12:31.

Set score - 10-7 after 10 ends. Oh, I was going to say - I thought

:12:32.:13:09.

that one had gone. Yeah. Scoot over the top of the carpet and very, very

:13:10.:13:13.

quickly. A lot of players have been caught out with that. The margin for

:13:14.:13:19.

error is obviously greater than in a normal game. This is a three metres,

:13:20.:13:24.

so you'd expect the players to be able throw it full length. I used to

:13:25.:13:34.

remember playing with a two metres tee. This is a three metres tee.

:13:35.:13:40.

That was a wonderful start. Yes, it was moved to a three metres tee to

:13:41.:13:45.

allow the spots to go into better position. Whenever they were

:13:46.:13:50.

introduced to move from a two metres to a three metres. Years ago, it

:13:51.:13:58.

used to be 6ft. Yes. For those who were brought up in a metric world.

:13:59.:14:12.

Well, after Ellen's opening delivery, she doesn't need to build

:14:13.:14:18.

this head up. Yes, that's a good bowl.

:14:19.:14:24.

APPLAUSE Looks like all the weight has been

:14:25.:14:30.

taken off her, the last bowl. Yes, two big last bowls.

:14:31.:15:04.

It's a cover bowl going in on the respot. Just approaching it now.

:15:05.:15:11.

It's very good. It really is very good.

:15:12.:15:19.

APPLAUSE Can't see the respot from the mat.

:15:20.:15:23.

It's remarkable how close they can get sometimes. Yes, very good. Well,

:15:24.:15:31.

Bec's, what will you get back? I think she'll get back OK. It's where

:15:32.:15:38.

the jack goes. Well! Well, it's one, but the chances of picking up a

:15:39.:15:42.

three now can be quite difficult. Yeah. Ellen not studying this hit

:15:43.:15:47.

for too long. She knows it's going to be difficult for Becs, but we see

:15:48.:15:51.

the head. Not a three group together. So it's going to be

:15:52.:15:56.

difficult for Becs. Anything behind will be good.

:15:57.:16:13.

Well, this has got the pace on it. She's all the way up to the jack. It

:16:14.:16:19.

will be good. But even dropping short is a useful bowl. One of those

:16:20.:16:24.

times when a short bowl is very handy to you. A lot depends who's

:16:25.:16:30.

lying third here Andy. Well, Becs has not been studying this for too

:16:31.:16:39.

long. I think it's probably almost a hope here on the forehand. There's a

:16:40.:16:46.

chance to punch the red ball out to get three. That's what she's going

:16:47.:16:51.

for. Hit the target and hope, and a number of red balls moves out. If

:16:52.:16:55.

she make it is gap - oh, too much weight. Oh! The movement of the jack

:16:56.:17:00.

was critical there and then she hit the red ball. If she hadn't hit the

:17:01.:17:09.

red ball, I had a feeling that none would have run off. I was wonder why

:17:10.:17:13.

Ellen was smiling and there had to be a reason. What a great effort,

:17:14.:17:20.

though. A great effort by Rebecca. So after a tight first set, the

:17:21.:17:25.

second was equally close. We join it at the final end of the set.

:17:26.:17:30.

This has been a wonderful game between Ellen Falkner and Rebecca

:17:31.:17:35.

Field. Ellen took the first set - 10-9. Second set, perfectly poised.

:17:36.:17:45.

Going into the last end at 7-7. And this end is going to be interesting

:17:46.:17:48.

in terms of its tactics. APPLAUSE

:17:49.:17:53.

Certainly not be worrying about scoring twos and threes. They just

:17:54.:17:57.

want to win the end. If Ellen wins the end, she takes the title and the

:17:58.:18:05.

trophy. If Rebecca wins the end, we're in a three-end tie break. Two

:18:06.:18:09.

good balls. Doesn't want the jack first. She gets it. Got a bit of a

:18:10.:18:14.

touch off the ball, Andy. That helps. I thought she was going to

:18:15.:18:19.

slice it on to Ellen's. But she held on to it. I agree - if this was

:18:20.:18:24.

almost like a tie-break, it doesn't matter who scores. I think she'll be

:18:25.:18:36.

on to this. I think so. Well... J very controlled. Just trying to

:18:37.:18:42.

control. There's a backball in. Always going to be handy. Yes, I

:18:43.:18:47.

agree. She will attack. She's obviously come down to have a look

:18:48.:18:51.

at this. She'll be positive now - Ellen. Rebecca really can't go near

:18:52.:18:54.

this. Cover shot. Quite rightly. Keeping it wide.

:18:55.:19:11.

Anticipating a drive from Ellen. Good bowl. I'd expect a forehand

:19:12.:19:31.

runner here. Well, interesting - she's using the backhand. Maybe

:19:32.:19:34.

that's because the bowl will come across the centreline better. Close

:19:35.:19:46.

to something. Great effort. Well, I can understand why she played it,

:19:47.:19:50.

but the only thing I don't like about the backhand is the green ball

:19:51.:19:54.

will go on to the jack in the ditch. Correct. Forehand, better chance of

:19:55.:20:01.

whizzing the ball out clean. Looks like a case for the player to pick

:20:02.:20:05.

the hand of the favour. But I think she plays the forehand rather well,

:20:06.:20:10.

Ellen. Slightly surprised there. Again, Becs will be staying away

:20:11.:20:13.

from this. Can't do anything about the head. Yes, going deep again. And

:20:14.:20:21.

just saying to Ellen - if you get this, good on you.

:20:22.:20:26.

APPLAUSE Well, I still think the forehand is

:20:27.:20:30.

off centre, Andy. I think it's going to be a better percentage shot to

:20:31.:20:34.

get to there. 100%. The one thing which I think is an issue for Ellen

:20:35.:20:39.

playing the backhand - if she get it is ball, that jack is going to whizz

:20:40.:20:42.

over to this direction and there's green balls waiting. And she loses

:20:43.:20:45.

the shot. She's stronger on the forehand. I'll be playing this on

:20:46.:20:50.

the forehand. I agree. It's off centre. This is often where the

:20:51.:20:54.

bowls hold out in the forehand. It's a better shot because of that. Well,

:20:55.:20:59.

plenty of time-outs available. If she gets this absolutely right,

:21:00.:21:09.

it's going to be hard to beat. Certainly will. If she catch it is

:21:10.:21:14.

red ball solid, the green will go out and it will be a difficult shot

:21:15.:21:22.

here for Rebecca. So, pick your hand. To me it's fore. Looking at

:21:23.:21:29.

the forehand now. She didn't hear us of course, that's not possible. But

:21:30.:21:30.

it's really is a forehand shot. Mmm... She's looking at this. Very

:21:31.:21:48.

close! Got it! She's got it. On the tap through. She played it to

:21:49.:21:54.

perfection. Didn't get the house side of the bam. Got the solid

:21:55.:21:57.

contact. And run through on to the jack but she's got the shot back and

:21:58.:22:00.

holds a championship lie. This is interesting. Is Ellen's lie

:22:01.:22:17.

one or two. Called. Out We haven't heard anything. It's close for the

:22:18.:22:24.

second. Rebecca has one time-out remaining. I think she'll drive

:22:25.:22:29.

regardless. Hard one to draw, anda. Very hard. This is a runner as well.

:22:30.:22:34.

Just depends how much weight she wants to use. It's a big target in

:22:35.:22:40.

many ways, but the second shot is critical here. I think it's a

:22:41.:22:44.

forehand runner as well. Same ball as Ellen. Yep, going for the heavy

:22:45.:22:55.

shot. No, what's her line like? Oh, it's look like she's under. She's

:22:56.:23:01.

making the gap. It's gone. The match to Ellen Falkner. A wonderful,

:23:02.:23:04.

wonderful game here in the final of the lady's match play. I have to say

:23:05.:23:10.

- Ellen Falkner takes it two sets to nil. But they're big bowls. She did

:23:11.:23:15.

play the important ones in the end. I think it's fair to say Rebecca

:23:16.:23:23.

probably outplayed better slightly, however Ellen, experienced player,

:23:24.:23:26.

played the big shot. Great result for Ellen Falkner. Had a gap of a

:23:27.:23:30.

few years, come back very strong in this event and some tight matches,

:23:31.:23:37.

but 10-9, 8-7 - wonderful final. Rebecca, chat to you first of all.

:23:38.:23:41.

It's very close, but these fine margins went the other way today.

:23:42.:23:45.

How did you feel you played? Yeah, I was pleased overall. I felt I put -

:23:46.:23:49.

I drew well, I put Ellen under a lot of pressure. It was the way to bowl.

:23:50.:23:54.

Ellen had a really brave one in the first set, the conversion for four.

:23:55.:23:58.

If she had caught the other bowl, I probably would have laid three.

:23:59.:24:00.

Massive turn around there. But she was brilliant. So I can't take it

:24:01.:24:04.

away from her. She was brilliant. But you have to be proud of your

:24:05.:24:08.

performance as well. You spoke before the match about how

:24:09.:24:11.

comfortable you were this year. In fairness, that's your third final

:24:12.:24:15.

now in the last four years. Yeah, I love coming here. It's always great

:24:16.:24:20.

just to pop down the road, and, yeah, it's lovely to be here and I

:24:21.:24:24.

have so many people in the crowd. Sorry I didn't do it for you today.

:24:25.:24:28.

You have nothing to be sorry for. Great effort today.

:24:29.:24:29.

APPLAUSE Ellen, congratulations. It's been 10

:24:30.:24:36.

years since you last won this title. I hate to say that loud. You make me

:24:37.:24:42.

sound old t I'm only 36. That's how good you are from so soon. Give us

:24:43.:24:46.

an idea how you played today. You seem to be on it very early on, and

:24:47.:24:50.

Rebecca fought back. Rebecca played incredibly well. She put me under a

:24:51.:24:55.

lot of pressure. It was a conversion bowl which is were difference, but

:24:56.:24:58.

what a great spectacle of bowls here today and I'm just glad we both

:24:59.:25:01.

performed well in the final. APPLAUSE

:25:02.:25:10.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen - for the third time in her career - the 2016

:25:11.:25:16.

championship - Ellen Falkner! Chanz So huge congratulations to Ellen

:25:17.:25:29.

Falkner. Champion here once again at Potters. Time now to switch our

:25:30.:25:32.

attention to the singles competition and here is what the draw looked

:25:33.:25:36.

like at the start of play on Thursday. Alex Marshall and Stewart

:25:37.:25:44.

Anderson also through. We're concentrating throw on the match

:25:45.:25:49.

between Darren Burnett and Greg Harlow. Darren Burnett winning the

:25:50.:25:55.

pairs and Micked paired title and also won the singles title back in

:25:56.:26:00.

2014. His opponent Greg Harlow won the title back here in 2010. Also

:26:01.:26:05.

won the Scottish International Open in 2008 and 2015. Ly pick this match

:26:06.:26:12.

up in end 6 with Harlow enjoying the better of the early exchanging and

:26:13.:26:14.

he leads 5-3. Back to second round of the world

:26:15.:26:32.

singles which goes back to nine ends of the first two sets in a three-end

:26:33.:26:38.

tie-break. Finals are 11, of course. But the nine ends all of a sudden

:26:39.:26:44.

seem very short after the 11. Yeah, before you know it, it's coming to

:26:45.:26:49.

the crucial end of the end - end of the set. Been good bowls so far.

:26:50.:26:55.

Both player just dropping a little bit short here. Understandable.

:26:56.:26:55.

APPLAUSE Still has got a lot of running to

:26:56.:27:22.

do. There's a correction made. But only by a foot when he really needed

:27:23.:27:27.

three. Lots of room for Greg if he wants to come around it. One down.

:27:28.:27:35.

Yes, not in the way -- weight. Forced him on to the forehand side.

:27:36.:27:42.

Comfortable play on the side. Knows it's a good draw. Yes, and it's

:27:43.:27:50.

quite remarkable and a lot of players will be playing the backhand

:27:51.:27:53.

but when they moved to the forehand they played good bowls on it. Just

:27:54.:28:02.

like Greg there. Three inches short. Here is Greg's second bowl. Changes

:28:03.:28:04.

to the fore. Draws Expect Greg to follow this one. Just

:28:05.:28:42.

drop on to the red bowl. Drop and side. Make the double.

:28:43.:28:45.

APPLAUSE Very, very good. That's excellent

:28:46.:29:02.

from Greg Harlow. Playing well. In the time delivery. Falls in, gets a

:29:03.:29:04.

touch up. I think Darren is asking whether he

:29:05.:29:17.

has two-thirds. Yes, I think he has. He may be tempted to this just to

:29:18.:29:22.

try to squeeze into the bowl and jack. I tell you what - this is not

:29:23.:29:27.

easy. He's playing the runner. Yep. It's a hard shot. Has he pushed it

:29:28.:29:32.

out wide? I think he has. Close. But it just looked a little bit wide out

:29:33.:29:36.

of the hand. Not much. Connection with the jack would have been

:29:37.:29:42.

perfect but this will be a good opportunity for Greg. Three here.

:29:43.:29:46.

Give himself a bit of gap going into the last three ends. And fully

:29:47.:29:54.

expect him to make this. Well, burnt Burnett's favourite length but he

:29:55.:29:59.

didn't really get two close bowls in. Expect this to be number 3. Well

:30:00.:30:13.

played. Yep. He's not going to make that mistake of dropping short.

:30:14.:30:15.

APPLAUSE Played a perfect bowl. Now he's got

:30:16.:30:20.

that lovely little gap of five shots.

:30:21.:30:25.

And that put Harlow well clear and he went on to win the first set 9-4.

:30:26.:30:31.

And he was also having the better of the second set as we rejoin the

:30:32.:30:34.

action in the eighth end with Harlow leading 6-3.

:30:35.:30:45.

Well, one really good bowl from Greg, and Darren will be in a heap

:30:46.:30:54.

of trouble. Must score realistically a two on this end, give himself a

:30:55.:30:56.

real chance. 15 ends we have played and door ren

:30:57.:31:12.

has only won four. But Greg has been picking them up in singles.

:31:13.:31:13.

APPLAUSE Well, terrenting for Greg. Well, his

:31:14.:31:28.

normal play here would be to be aggressive here. I don't think I

:31:29.:31:32.

would be too aggressive here. Doesn't need to be. I think he's

:31:33.:31:40.

playing a forehand just reaching. Just a matter of missing the bowl.

:31:41.:31:49.

Well, the thin edge put him off the line, but he probably would have

:31:50.:31:52.

been very close to coming right in behind the jack. Clear run he was

:31:53.:31:58.

good there, Greg. Turned his back on it. Turned his back, but it's still

:31:59.:32:08.

running. He knows he's not up, though. Well, Greg can afford to

:32:09.:32:12.

play a little bit more to it this time. Well, jack in the ditch for

:32:13.:32:22.

the game almost here now. Oh, wow! Not sure he'll play with all of that

:32:23.:32:26.

weight, but he'll certainly be playing inside his own short bowl.

:32:27.:32:31.

He is going for it. Likes a forehand runner. He's under. He's taken his

:32:32.:32:37.

own bowl out as well. Still got the other one sitting. He's never going

:32:38.:32:42.

to be more than one down after that. However he's given Darren a chance

:32:43.:32:52.

to score two or three here. This needs to be good. I never read too

:32:53.:32:58.

much into the way Darren reacts after a bowl goes away, because he's

:32:59.:33:03.

often close. He's coming through with that. Well, it's OK. It's OK.

:33:04.:33:09.

Don't think that - he didn't want it there. It's through really. It was

:33:10.:33:20.

really meant to draw the shot. Oh, Greg, you don't need to run at this

:33:21.:33:27.

head. Well, it has to be a draw, surely. Passes his own bowl. Got a

:33:28.:33:32.

thin edge. Can also play the back, and be defensive and try to drop in

:33:33.:33:36.

there if he misses the draw. If he gets into that sort of area, it's

:33:37.:33:40.

got to be close just to stop Darren scoring a double. You know, one shot

:33:41.:33:46.

is not a big issue for him. He's happy to lose one here - Greg.

:33:47.:33:50.

Darren need as three in the last hand. Yes, yes he does. That's why

:33:51.:33:54.

Greg is happy one down. This has just got to be a draw. I think I

:33:55.:33:59.

draw a backhand really. Clear a path to the jack. He's playing the

:34:00.:34:08.

backhand. It's just a draw. Gentlemen, just trying to close the

:34:09.:34:13.

head down, that's all. Just finishes a foot behind. He's happy. Yeah.

:34:14.:34:21.

He's very close to it. He's not behind. So therefore Darren has

:34:22.:34:25.

still got a chance. It's a good bowl, but Darren has to decide

:34:26.:34:29.

whether he wants to take a risk here. It's... He's got to take a

:34:30.:34:42.

risk. He's got to try the trail to the jack. It's there. It's

:34:43.:34:50.

definitely available. Got to give him a chance. He's got to take a

:34:51.:34:56.

chance. I know it's difficult, if he picks a one up, that's not going to

:34:57.:35:00.

be good enough. He's not going to get three in the last end. That's

:35:01.:35:05.

what he's looking at - the angle inside that, to bring the jack into

:35:06.:35:09.

that position. There's no absolutely no reason not to play that. OK, you

:35:10.:35:17.

may just have given the game away - but that's too bad. You got to take

:35:18.:35:21.

a chance. I think the game is gone if he scores just a single. Correct.

:35:22.:35:26.

The way Greg is playing, it's hard to pick up a three. He has picked up

:35:27.:35:31.

a three earlier in the set but it's only one end. So it's a big bowl.

:35:32.:35:38.

It's a difficult one. Sometimes the option is to play across it and a

:35:39.:35:43.

forehand, but I just don't like the look of that. I think he's being

:35:44.:35:47.

positive, I think. I think he's playing the right shot. It will hook

:35:48.:35:51.

away very quickly. He can still get a result. Being tight here. He can

:35:52.:35:55.

get a result here. Edge and the jack for three. He's got a result. Well.

:35:56.:36:06.

He didn't get the three, but it's a fortuitous 2. Set score - 5-6 after

:36:07.:36:18.

eight ends. You cedar ren's last bowl - slightly under. Fortunate

:36:19.:36:23.

result. Picks a two up. He acknowledges it was a little bit

:36:24.:36:25.

lucky. APPLAUSE

:36:26.:37:09.

. He's three inches short of jack high.

:37:10.:37:20.

Greg is still very much in the driving seat. He's effectively

:37:21.:37:28.

carries that one shot over from the first set because Darren must win.

:37:29.:37:33.

He's probably thinking to himself - you can have one, my friend, but no

:37:34.:37:40.

more. Yes. You're right. He's got a little cushion, however his opening

:37:41.:37:43.

ball has put a bit of pressure on. It might just stop the running ball.

:37:44.:37:49.

Darren needs probably a closer shot here.

:37:50.:37:56.

APPLAUSE Just... Well! I earlier thought Greg

:37:57.:38:12.

would take the two bowls out. But at this stage he'll probably still

:38:13.:38:16.

draw. Stick at the draw for the moment Greg. You're on the last

:38:17.:38:17.

delivery. Not quite. It's coming across the

:38:18.:38:37.

red balls. They're close enough that hecle play that forcing shot if he

:38:38.:38:44.

needs it. That would have been better if he hadn't come across the

:38:45.:38:49.

red. Well, two red, Darren needs so make this one count. Greg will be

:38:50.:38:51.

running at the next one, I think. Change of hand. Needs to come back

:38:52.:39:10.

very quickly. Oh, it's good. It's number 3.

:39:11.:39:13.

APPLAUSE A lot of pressure now on Greg. What

:39:14.:39:21.

does he do? Is it a forehand draw or backhand runner? He's been so good

:39:22.:39:25.

at the returners, he really has been. But I think the difficult is

:39:26.:39:32.

now if he's just a foot over the weight in the forehand, Andy, he'll

:39:33.:39:36.

slip on through. Sticking with the forehand. Good choice. Confident in

:39:37.:39:39.

the draw. No reason why he can't draw. He's been playing well enough.

:39:40.:39:50.

Oh, he's close with this. Very close! Very close. Second. Well

:39:51.:39:56.

done. Well done, Greg. Played it well.

:39:57.:39:58.

APPLAUSE Yeah. It's a clap there from Kate.

:39:59.:40:15.

Hard stuff now, Andy! Does he play all the way through it and take the

:40:16.:40:19.

green bowl out? Or does he try to convert the jack through on the

:40:20.:40:23.

forehand? Looks quite a good backhand runner. That's what he's

:40:24.:40:27.

looking at. Yeah. Replace the green bowl. It's a hard shot, though, Andy

:40:28.:40:31.

without bringing that jack out. I agree. I think that's the only thing

:40:32.:40:35.

he's got on here. The forehand is there, but as you know - it

:40:36.:40:38.

struggles to get back when you put it out on a wide line. But Darren

:40:39.:40:45.

Burnett has got one bowl to stay in this championship. He's got one bowl

:40:46.:40:54.

to keep the quest for the treble going, and it's very difficult. It

:40:55.:40:58.

really is. This is a hard, hard shot. However, I think he's got to

:40:59.:41:03.

play the backhand. Try to remove the green bowl. Ooop! Put off his

:41:04.:41:08.

delivery. Still got time. He can take a time-out. Just settle

:41:09.:41:11.

yourself. Take a time-out. Stop clock has been stopped. It has. It

:41:12.:41:19.

has. Restart. Potentially the last bowl of the match.

:41:20.:41:30.

He's gone with a lot of weight. Just needs the green bowl to go out. He

:41:31.:41:37.

looks under. Yes, just a bowl under. Would have been interesting to

:41:38.:41:42.

see... Greg Harlow punches his fist to the air to acknowledge the crowd.

:41:43.:41:51.

And his win today. Played very well. And signs that Darren were coming

:41:52.:41:55.

back, but that great bowl in the last end, Andy. Great bowl from

:41:56.:41:59.

Greg. Greg was a better player, drew better. Darren not quite in the form

:42:00.:42:04.

he was in the beginning of the week. Greg is through. Darren has had a

:42:05.:42:07.

great championship. Disappointment for you, Darren.

:42:08.:42:10.

First of all, can you give us your thoughts on how you played in the

:42:11.:42:14.

first set in particular - how much were you put off by your opponent

:42:15.:42:19.

today? Greg bowled very well. I unfortunately - it's not the way I

:42:20.:42:24.

have been playing. It's my ninth game in the tournament. You can't

:42:25.:42:28.

produce every time. I know at this stage in this event, if you don't

:42:29.:42:30.

produce your best, you'll struggle. I proved I can fight. Greg played

:42:31.:42:35.

the great last bowl. And if I nipped it out we might have been in the

:42:36.:42:39.

tie-break, but Greg thoroughly deserved to win. How would you sum

:42:40.:42:43.

up your time here at Potters? It's fantastic. You know, singles is

:42:44.:42:51.

vitally important. But I can't complain with that. It's been a

:42:52.:42:54.

great couple of week. Certainly has. Disappointed today. But well done on

:42:55.:42:59.

those two trophies. Greg, you seem to be playing very well. The guys in

:43:00.:43:03.

the commentary box were singing your praises the way you were rolling on

:43:04.:43:07.

the first set. It's nice of them. Unusual, but nice of them. I was

:43:08.:43:11.

comfortle out there. I had a good start. That settles any nerves you

:43:12.:43:15.

had. I was finding a good pace. I was feeling good. Time now to bring

:43:16.:43:19.

you action from the match that took place in the morning between

:43:20.:43:21.

19-years-old Connor Cinato, the youngest player still left in the

:43:22.:43:27.

tournament up against a former quarterfinalist Jamie Chestney. They

:43:28.:43:30.

both made it through to the second round with impressive first round

:43:31.:43:40.

wins. Connor Cinato knocked out Andy Thompson, while Jamie Chestney

:43:41.:43:45.

knocked out Jason Greenslade. The Commonwealth Games silver medallist

:43:46.:43:50.

took the early initiative. The teenager limited his losses with his

:43:51.:43:56.

final bowl on end 5. But the Devon bowler was in fine

:43:57.:44:00.

form extending his lead to eight shots. And despite a

:44:01.:44:07.

confidence-boosting two in end 7 for Cinato he couldn't prevent Chestney

:44:08.:44:11.

from taking the first set with an end to spare. Jamie increased the

:44:12.:44:16.

pressure at the start of the second set with a successful drive to win

:44:17.:44:24.

the first end. And when he slid in for a three at end 3, the audience

:44:25.:44:28.

were expecting an early conclusion to the match. Cinato showed why he's

:44:29.:44:35.

such a good prospect with his best bowl of the match to pull two shots

:44:36.:44:37.

back at end 4. But it's misat end 8 confirmed

:44:38.:44:51.

Chestney's passage to the fiefls for the first time in nine years winning

:44:52.:44:53.

10-3, 8-3. And the final match on Thursday was

:44:54.:45:09.

between Les Gillett and Nick Brett. He did get to the smile semifinals

:45:10.:45:15.

here 16 years ago and is seeded number 16. His opponent - his best

:45:16.:45:23.

performance was getting to the semifinals at Potters in 2010. Here

:45:24.:45:28.

is what happened with David Corkill and Robert Paxton. There is Gillett.

:45:29.:45:37.

Levelled the scores now in the second set with two ends to go at

:45:38.:45:43.

5-5. A set he must win to force a tie-break. Left-hander from lest --

:45:44.:45:54.

Lester. He has really upped his game this second part of the match.

:45:55.:46:01.

Number one - Nick Brett. He'll want to score a single here at the very

:46:02.:46:06.

least and force Les to have to get a double at the last end. A draw isn't

:46:07.:46:10.

good enough. APPLAUSE

:46:11.:46:36.

Well, that's handy. Give him a chance.

:46:37.:47:01.

That can't be believe to keep the two bowls in. But there's a good

:47:02.:47:09.

shoulder to lean on and drop back the jack. He doesn't want to leave

:47:10.:47:16.

it to his last. Definitely not. He's got to pull one out, really. How is

:47:17.:47:25.

he holding? Just on the outside line again. Comes off his own bowl, he's

:47:26.:47:34.

got a chance. Just dropped out. Could be two in this by the looks of

:47:35.:47:42.

it. That's definitely one too many for Les. Nick's deciding to go on

:47:43.:47:51.

the other side to cover things. Just wise. Les can attack these two

:47:52.:47:59.

bowls. I think he has to, to be honest. He can go strong as he

:48:00.:48:07.

wishes. The delicate shot would be just to draw to the jack and move it

:48:08.:48:13.

across. I think he's better to go splitter of the two bowls. That

:48:14.:48:21.

disappears. And that one disappears. If he get it is jack he's probably

:48:22.:48:24.

still going to be in the same situation. He needs to rip the two

:48:25.:48:29.

bowls out. Down the backhand, straight into the split. He'll good

:48:30.:48:30.

enough to play this shot. Just taking his note. Knows it's

:48:31.:48:46.

such a big bowl for him here. Just to keep him in the match really.

:48:47.:48:52.

He's going strong. He's in the air gentleman. Got the jack, I think.

:48:53.:48:57.

Oh, no, what's the result? Well, the bowl is in the ditch. Going to go on

:48:58.:49:02.

the respot. I think he'll probably lie. There's the bowl being marked

:49:03.:49:14.

as a toucher. And they'll check the respot position even though a jack

:49:15.:49:17.

has been put on by Nick. One green. Well, there we go. We couldn't tell

:49:18.:49:24.

from the angle of our camera, but there's one of the green. Exactly

:49:25.:49:29.

the same scenario. Would be a double for Nick. I would expect him to make

:49:30.:49:36.

this. That was unlucky in many ways from Les. Could have bounced about

:49:37.:49:41.

like a pinball and ended up in a better position. He pretty much on

:49:42.:49:46.

target. This needs to stop. Going a bit quick. I think he might have

:49:47.:49:53.

missed this. Wow! That I did not expect. I don't think any of us did

:49:54.:50:05.

really. That could be very costly. A big different of needing turn three

:50:06.:50:10.

in the last end. Obviously it's just one shot from a numerical point of

:50:11.:50:13.

view, but from a psychological point of view, it's massive. Oh,

:50:14.:50:19.

definitely. I mean, threes and fours don't come often, but two - two is

:50:20.:50:23.

certainly gettable. Especially with the last bowl he played as well -

:50:24.:50:30.

from Les. Really close. Oh, it looks in. I think it might just be in.

:50:31.:50:39.

They'll go back and check with a box measure. I love that device. Les is

:50:40.:50:44.

kicking it away, he knows. Two shots - Nick Brett. He's thinking - hasn't

:50:45.:50:51.

really been my night. Any little things here and there, Rob, have

:50:52.:50:54.

just been going slightly against him. Sometimes you make your own

:50:55.:50:59.

luck by the way you play. Nick has got more bowls in the head. You get

:51:00.:51:03.

the touches occasionally for you as well. He's been on target a number

:51:04.:51:09.

of times, and has come out very well. But I think generally when it

:51:10.:51:13.

comes to things like this, the better player has a tendency to get

:51:14.:51:20.

the little edges. It's not always the case, but it's a big difference

:51:21.:51:22.

to Les looking for a three now. It's a good start. Really good

:51:23.:51:50.

start. Les has to make sure everything really is within either a

:51:51.:52:01.

foot or just behind. The intention now is to make sure you're up and

:52:02.:52:06.

just to run through. A good effort from Les here. It's good. It's very

:52:07.:52:08.

tidy in there. This match will complete our

:52:09.:52:53.

quarterfinal line-up for tomorrow. See Alex Marshall taking on Stewart

:52:54.:52:57.

Anderson, Jamie Chestney will take on Robert Paxton. Mathew Orrey

:52:58.:53:01.

qualifier against David Gourlay. And Greg Harlow will take on the winner

:53:02.:53:13.

of this match. Nick will not think he's over the line until the last

:53:14.:53:18.

ball is played. Certainly that loose ball there from Nicky, it's half a

:53:19.:53:23.

chance, but it's made it awkward this second bowl - just dropped it

:53:24.:53:30.

in front. Again, it's not an easy. But it has to be a shot on there. If

:53:31.:53:35.

he gets on to the jack and wants to extend it through, it's great.

:53:36.:53:38.

That's fine. That's a delicate shot. But there's the other shot available

:53:39.:53:44.

- that is the front bowl into it. The problem for Les is that those

:53:45.:53:49.

two shots need different weights Yeah, they're both hard. Both really

:53:50.:53:55.

hard in there. One's quite a delicate shot. The other one is more

:53:56.:54:00.

of an offensive shot. Needs to come in with pace on it. I'd always be

:54:01.:54:07.

looking down the other - down - chipping the bowl past the white.

:54:08.:54:10.

Lifting his own bowl into it. Will do well to get back to that. He's in

:54:11.:54:15.

the area. It's a great offer here from Les. Is he going to get it?

:54:16.:54:20.

It's perfect. That's the only danger I saw in that shot - the green ball

:54:21.:54:24.

coming on to the red. Always going to stop it from going out clean.

:54:25.:54:30.

It's a good bowl, but if you just look - he had to get it plum, he

:54:31.:54:34.

couldn't get it highed is because the jack was moving. To get it plum,

:54:35.:54:43.

it has to hit the back bowl. Still, he's up for a chance if Nick doesn't

:54:44.:54:48.

get in. Dasm. That was certainly the hardest shot he could play on here.

:54:49.:54:54.

A crucial bowl for Nicky here. He's calling the bowl back. He's

:54:55.:55:10.

gives this a go. Is he ever! APPLAUSE

:55:11.:55:13.

Well, that's an absolute beauty. Doesn't matter he's fallen back on

:55:14.:55:18.

the shot. If it's one, that has absolutely no problems at all. There

:55:19.:55:26.

is one shot available here for Les. This could be a very interesting

:55:27.:55:37.

one, but I think he has to play for it. And there's room to get on to

:55:38.:55:42.

this bowl. That will hit the other red bowl. If he hits it on the high

:55:43.:55:46.

side, it keeps it right. But the jack will go off the rink. Fully

:55:47.:55:50.

expect the jack to go there. But that red bowl that he hits in the

:55:51.:55:53.

middle, just in front of the jack, will get on to the green one, push

:55:54.:55:57.

that through, and the jack will go on to the respot position which is

:55:58.:56:02.

here. That's the only shot. Looking for the plant. And it all depends

:56:03.:56:07.

what happens with the two red bowls coming through. That's the key. Yep.

:56:08.:56:11.

No other shot available. That's his only hope. And he's drawing the back

:56:12.:56:19.

hand. I can see what he's trying to do here - he's trying to come around

:56:20.:56:23.

it or come inside on to the green ball and fall back on the... Just

:56:24.:56:27.

up. I thought he would have taken a chance on that one. Yeah. Ang the

:56:28.:56:30.

looked good to be honest. But didn't fancy it. Nicky getting over the

:56:31.:56:34.

line 2-0 and fully deserved. APPLAUSE

:56:35.:56:40.

Absolutely. And the crowd showing acknowledgment of the match around

:56:41.:56:44.

for the world number 1 getting through against Matt Gillett. World

:56:45.:56:47.

number 15. Good effort by Les Les in the second set. But Nicky controlled

:56:48.:56:53.

the match for most of it. Still had to play a good bowl in the last end.

:56:54.:57:00.

Certain amount of pressure there. He would be happy to get through this

:57:01.:57:02.

match. So here is the confirmed line-up for

:57:03.:57:09.

the quarterfinals of the singles of the World Indoor Bowls Championships

:57:10.:57:11.

2016. Marn Marshall against Stewart Anderson. Jamie Chestney takes on

:57:12.:57:16.

Robert Paxton. Mathew Orrey versus David Gourlay and Greg Harlow will

:57:17.:57:22.

play Nick Brett. But now the moment you have all been waiting for - it's

:57:23.:57:34.

Corky's shot of the day. It cams from the laid yes match.

:57:35.:57:38.

Ellen Falkner is down. She really needs to make a big bowl with this

:57:39.:57:42.

one and she plays the perfect running shot.

:57:43.:57:48.

On the backhand, into the green bowl, wasn't doing her good really

:57:49.:57:52.

but bowl on the jack and she runs through and lifts it four shots that

:57:53.:57:57.

she needs to give her a very, strong position to move into the last two

:57:58.:58:01.

ends. It was a brilliant ball. With weight and control and she won the

:58:02.:58:08.

first set. And Corky has earnt a goodnight's

:58:09.:58:12.

rest. Here is what's coming up on BBC on Friday:

:58:13.:58:27.

Really cannot wait to see how those quarterfinals unfold here. On the

:58:28.:58:36.

blue rink of Potters, but we'll leave you with images with Ellen

:58:37.:58:40.

Falkner. She had to wait 10 years to get her hands out on the trophy. And

:58:41.:58:45.

right now she's out celebrating and deservedly so. From us here at

:58:46.:58:47.

Potters - bye, bye. You saying you're not a tax haven?

:58:48.:58:55.

We're not a tax haven at all. You've got to please turn off

:58:56.:58:58.

the camera.
