What a competition. My word. This horse has been absolutely brilliant.

:00:14.:00:21.

It is such a partnership. Exceptional. What a fabulous

:00:22.:00:28.

combination. Pure class as a rider. That was easy. Oh, he is way over

:00:29.:00:33.

it! Get your programmes. Special

:00:34.:00:44.

programmes! Lovely jump! Good rhythm. Good

:00:45.:01:18.

balance. He's done it! Welcome to the London International

:01:19.:01:41.

Horse Show. It is incredible entertainment and some spectacular

:01:42.:01:45.

sights. We have got some live World Cup show jumping for you. But there

:01:46.:01:49.

is plenty more coming in the next couple of hours. World No 1 Scott

:01:50.:01:59.

Brash will tell us a million euros was worth the controversy it

:02:00.:02:04.

created. And we have highlights of the dressage to music with Carl

:02:05.:02:19.

Hester and Charlotte Dujardin. And a spectacular sight as the Household

:02:20.:02:30.

Cavalry charge into the arena. It has been a fantastic year for Scot

:02:31.:02:35.

Brash. But he omitted not represent Great Britain and helped ensure that

:02:36.:02:40.

crucial Olympic qualification, but he was chasing a one million euros

:02:41.:02:45.

of pot of gold and a place in the history books. I caught up with him

:02:46.:02:54.

earlier in the week. Scott, this year, you have accomplished somebody

:02:55.:02:59.

nobody had done, the Rolex Grand Slam. Where does that rank do you

:03:00.:03:04.

think in your life achievements? It is right up there. The three degrees

:03:05.:03:09.

that every rider wants to win. No one had done it before. It was a

:03:10.:03:14.

massive part of my career to win that and that and the Olympic gold

:03:15.:03:19.

medals, the two best achievements I have ever had. The feelings, the

:03:20.:03:25.

moments in my life I will never forget. You also rewrote cheque

:03:26.:03:32.

books, a one million euro bonus, it is not a sport like football, these

:03:33.:03:38.

pay days don't come often. It is incredible to have that in the

:03:39.:03:43.

sport? Yes, it is a massive bonus for us. I heard the global champions

:03:44.:03:49.

tour is going up to a million bonus and it is great to see the sport

:03:50.:03:55.

going in a positive direction. In terms of decision to go to Spruce

:03:56.:04:02.

Meadows, you came under criticism. Do you think it was just if Ied? I

:04:03.:04:07.

think so. I have no regrets put it that way. I will always do what I

:04:08.:04:12.

think is right for the horse and that is what I done. Hopefully with

:04:13.:04:17.

us doing that, he has one more Championship in him. It would have

:04:18.:04:28.

been unfair to dothat and then the other. I assume you had dicushions

:04:29.:04:35.

-- discussions with the British riders were they supportive? Some

:04:36.:04:41.

were, some weren't. I will always do what is right for my horse. Me and

:04:42.:04:47.

my owners difference cussed it. When you make -- discussed it and you

:04:48.:04:50.

know you're going to get criticism and you have to handle it and do

:04:51.:04:54.

what you think is right. I think it was just was justified. You have

:04:55.:05:03.

been world No 1, do you think that makes you entitled to be part of

:05:04.:05:08.

British team for the Olympics? Not necessarily. Our sport is about your

:05:09.:05:13.

form near the time. It doesn't matter what happens in the past. The

:05:14.:05:16.

four best horses in form should be the four that go to Rio. If I was

:05:17.:05:21.

manager that is what I would do. One thing that is still on your list is

:05:22.:05:25.

that individual gold. How much would you like to win that especially on

:05:26.:05:31.

the horse that has given you so much. Yes, I feel in London we

:05:32.:05:36.

should have been jumping off for a gold or silver individual medal. We

:05:37.:05:41.

finished fifth. But at the expense of one fence down. That fence still

:05:42.:05:46.

haunts me today. Oh, he took the option to keep going Forde ward.

:05:47.:05:53.

Medal chances gone. I would love to put it right for his sake. I would

:05:54.:05:57.

love to try and top his career off by that. This is your last show

:05:58.:06:02.

before Christmas and then you go back to your roots and give your

:06:03.:06:06.

staff time off and you will be the one mucking out? Yes sometimes

:06:07.:06:11.

they're cursing me when they come back. Are you not very good at it? I

:06:12.:06:16.

think I'm good at it, but they all have a very high standard and

:06:17.:06:21.

sometimes my standards are not just up to top notch like theirs. But yes

:06:22.:06:25.

it is nice for them to all go home and I enjoy doing the horses on

:06:26.:06:30.

Christmas Day. I am not sure about his mucking out skills, but his

:06:31.:06:36.

riding is great. I am joined by Tim Stockdale. He has represented

:06:37.:06:45.

Britain on over 50 occasions. We are speaking about Scot Brash, he is a

:06:46.:06:57.

top class rider and he ruffled some feathers with that decision. Whoo do

:06:58.:07:01.

you think. It is unprecedented that he decided to go for the individual

:07:02.:07:06.

title, instead of helping the team and the country qualify for the

:07:07.:07:09.

Olympics. It was a very brave decision in my opinion. I was one of

:07:10.:07:13.

the riders that was against Scott's decision. My feeling is you have to

:07:14.:07:19.

put the team qualification first. I think he was badly advised and one

:07:20.:07:23.

or two people got his ear that were saying to do this. For the amount of

:07:24.:07:30.

money that Scott was jumping for. The prize money was well over a

:07:31.:07:34.

million and a quarter. We are talking a massive pot of money. I

:07:35.:07:39.

think his priorities were steered to that agenda. People will say because

:07:40.:07:45.

he didn't help Britain qualify, he shouldn't go. Is that a sensible

:07:46.:07:53.

approach? Great Britain at an Olympics neats Scott brash. That

:07:54.:07:56.

would be my belief. You have got to move on. Luckily we qualified. The

:07:57.:08:04.

guys did a tremendous job. They secured qualification. Scott went on

:08:05.:08:09.

and won his bonus and his money and took his place in the history books.

:08:10.:08:16.

Let's move on. We want Scott as part of team pulling the rope all in the

:08:17.:08:24.

same direction as a team. We have got to pull together. We want to see

:08:25.:08:33.

the them in the team. We won't see Hello Sanctos at Olympia. But

:08:34.:08:42.

Sunshine was in Olympia's biggest class, the puissance. It means power

:08:43.:08:47.

and nerves of steel. We had a strong line up going in and in fact in the

:08:48.:08:53.

first round all eleven riders went clear. But we had a surprise exit

:08:54.:08:58.

from a previous winner in Guy Williams. He was kicking himself

:08:59.:09:02.

after. He was unhappy with his approach up to the wall. He is

:09:03.:09:07.

taking it steady, but the horse fires over and takes a brick down.

:09:08.:09:13.

He was left on the sidelines. The wall went up to 6 foot 7, or two

:09:14.:09:28.

metres. This is Laura Renwick. Her horse Rollercoaster, a similar

:09:29.:09:34.

situation, taps the brick and she was a spectator. So that meant only

:09:35.:09:39.

six went forward. The wall went up to a huge two metres ten or six foot

:09:40.:09:48.

11. We mentioned Sunshine and there they are at the bottom. Here is what

:09:49.:10:01.

happened in the latter rounds. COMMENTATOR: Meyer for Germany.

:10:02.:10:09.

Germany have been known as the puissance nation over the years.

:10:10.:10:22.

Here is Hilmar to keep the flag flying.

:10:23.:10:33.

Hilmar Meyer, double winner this year. Will he make it three?

:10:34.:10:47.

Brilliantly done. A lot of pace. A lot of confidence. Saw exactly the

:10:48.:10:59.

stride he needed with this huge big German horse, with massive power. He

:11:00.:11:04.

has got better each round. He was stuffy over the first round, but

:11:05.:11:08.

that is getting smoother and more comfortable each time. He looked

:11:09.:11:12.

easier over that height than over the first height. Got to exact think

:11:13.:11:17.

right point and that is the skill these -- got to exactly the right

:11:18.:11:22.

point and that is the skill where they have to be pin point accurate.

:11:23.:11:27.

But if you stand off further, you can't get the height. That is a

:11:28.:11:30.

great piece of riding from Hilmar. He says he is not a puissance rider,

:11:31.:11:48.

but he has placed every year since he shared the victory with Guy

:11:49.:11:52.

Williams in 2011. The horse has got the scope. No doubting that.

:11:53.:12:04.

This is another one that has improved each round. With Pius. Oh,

:12:05.:12:16.

he went for that powerful long stride again. It was a bit too much.

:12:17.:12:22.

You saw a bit of a kick and a snatch on take off. I don't know if he felt

:12:23.:12:27.

he wasn't going to go. He really said, come on, pick up. A bit too

:12:28.:12:32.

much pace and dragged the brick. He ended up too far off. He is so

:12:33.:12:38.

determined. But as he took off, I think he knew he was probably a

:12:39.:12:44.

couple of feet too far away. And that just dragged the back end

:12:45.:12:46.

through top of the fence. Victoria Gulliksen and almost the

:12:47.:13:11.

joker in the pack. They have jumped adequately all the way through. It

:13:12.:13:17.

might be at this height they may do the same again and give us a jump

:13:18.:13:19.

off in the fifth round. This horse gets very strong. She

:13:20.:13:39.

needs to wait. Don't rush it. Yes, you see how strong he has got. A bit

:13:40.:13:45.

sairy after -- scary after the fence. He just ran through the top

:13:46.:13:49.

of the fence. Couldn't get the shoulders up. Couldn't get the

:13:50.:13:54.

height. Dived over to the left. Brave effort from Victoria. But if

:13:55.:14:03.

they don't stay straight, very often the shape of the jump goes and you

:14:04.:14:10.

can see there he threw himself forward and hit it quite hard in the

:14:11.:14:17.

end. So three more to go. Only one clear so far. We can go one more

:14:18.:14:30.

round. No doubt the horse has got the jump to jump this easily. But it

:14:31.:14:35.

is putting the whole package together and that is what it is

:14:36.:14:38.

about. A bit of calming and confidence going on there. It does

:14:39.:14:47.

worry me hen he jumps with the head up. We will see what happens this

:14:48.:14:52.

time. But he has got the power and class to jump the fence. The one

:14:53.:14:57.

clear round is Hilmar Meyer for Germany. Looking to jump, repeat in

:14:58.:15:01.

the fifth. 2 metres 10. Oh so unlucky. The same

:15:02.:15:16.

jump to the right and just in the end that technique was a bit untidy.

:15:17.:15:21.

Just wasn't going to work. He is a brave horse. Watch again. Flings his

:15:22.:15:28.

head up, jumps to the right and couldn't release the back legs. I

:15:29.:15:31.

think they just have got to be able to drop the head more than that. You

:15:32.:15:36.

see the head went up. Back legs come down. That is a great shame. Very

:15:37.:15:42.

brave horse. Brave rider. She has come so close last year. And very

:15:43.:15:44.

close again this year. How are you feeling? I'm happy. He

:15:45.:15:58.

doesn't always help you, he carries his head very high over the jumps?

:15:59.:16:03.

Yes. It seems he doesn't help me but he really wants to go and do it for

:16:04.:16:09.

me so I'm really thankful for it. We are down to two left to jump in

:16:10.:16:16.

round 4 with one at the moment clear in this round. Trevor Breen for

:16:17.:16:26.

Ireland, Joss Velooy for Belgium looking to join the German. They

:16:27.:16:37.

have been falling by the way side here. Trevor Breen.

:16:38.:16:49.

Oh, no. Well, great approach. We'll have another look at that on the

:16:50.:17:01.

slo-mo but it hung in the air for a fraction of a second. Just watch

:17:02.:17:05.

here. Took off well, got the front legs up, but when the horses

:17:06.:17:08.

hesitate in the air, they don't finish the shape of the jump off. We

:17:09.:17:12.

are seeing the horses dragging the bricks out with the back legs. Brave

:17:13.:17:21.

effort again. So we haven't got the clears we expected. One left to go

:17:22.:17:30.

that could put us into round 5. And just at the peak of his performance,

:17:31.:17:36.

his horse goes out. Are you disappointed with that or,

:17:37.:17:41.

did he do you justice? The horse did himself proud, he's on two Derbies

:17:42.:17:46.

before, so I don't think he owes anything to his owners, Richard

:17:47.:17:50.

Brown or his trainer Bernice Cuthbert, so he's done himself proud

:17:51.:17:53.

but obviously I'm gutted because I came here to win and in front of

:17:54.:18:01.

this crowd, Olympia, I would have liked to have won. I'll be going

:18:02.:18:06.

back. It will be interesting if this horse does jump this fence. Will

:18:07.:18:12.

they tie or go for a final round? Jos Velooy, 20 years old with a

:18:13.:18:18.

nine-year-old Sunshine, the horse he wants to ride for Belgium in the

:18:19.:18:20.

World Cup. This man has the talent. Jos Velooy

:18:21.:18:50.

look to go clear and join the possible final round. Got to go

:18:51.:18:58.

clear. The wall. Two metres 10. You see there, there's no time limit,

:18:59.:19:03.

he's slowing everything down. Were sensible move. He's got to wait.

:19:04.:19:09.

He's gone a bit earlier. Oh, but it's worked. Fabulous jump.

:19:10.:19:16.

Unbelievable. What scope from this lovely nine-year-old. He can jump

:19:17.:19:21.

the man. That was fabulous! I think you will find he was at least six to

:19:22.:19:26.

nine, if not a foot higher than that. That was quite extraordinary.

:19:27.:19:35.

We very rarely see a horse jump so cleanly over a 2 metres 10 wall.

:19:36.:19:39.

That's the best jump we have seen all night. Went fractionally

:19:40.:19:43.

earlier, gave his horse a bit more room but that was spot on. That's

:19:44.:19:50.

the classic shape, you very rarely see that. That was a treat, that

:19:51.:19:52.

really was. So, we can go to the fifth there.

:19:53.:20:03.

Those are the two that could jump off in the final round. And they are

:20:04.:20:15.

going again, very good news, 2 metres 15, 7'1" for round 5.

:20:16.:20:22.

We are off into round 5 of the final round, two left, one for Germany and

:20:23.:20:33.

one for Belgium. Germany's Hilmar Meyer, a late entry

:20:34.:20:48.

but he'll give us wonderful value for his appearance here, riding the

:20:49.:20:54.

13-year-old, Continuo, who's got better and better. He's on two and

:20:55.:20:57.

one can begin to see why now. Round 5. Hilmar Meyer, Germany, the

:20:58.:21:20.

first of two to jump off. The wall, that is at 2 meaters 15, 7 Flatt and

:21:21.:21:32.

half an inch. -- 7" and half an inch.

:21:33.:21:37.

Better and better each round. What an effort from Hilmar Meyer, he's

:21:38.:21:41.

thrilled the crowd there. Absolutely spot on. All the way. And such a

:21:42.:21:48.

lovely, attacking, poss piece of riding. Put him on a six pence. That

:21:49.:21:57.

was brill Cumbrian. -- brilliant. 11 out of 10! He says, come on, we are

:21:58.:22:01.

going to jump it. Fantastic piece of riding. Look at the determination.

:22:02.:22:08.

But the horse really gave it to him. My word, it's wonderful, that

:22:09.:22:12.

performance. You are not going to see a rider any more determined to

:22:13.:22:18.

jump a wall than Hilmar Meyer. Elbows went, he got the take off. No

:22:19.:22:25.

wonder he's punching the air, what a feeling that is!

:22:26.:22:34.

The door's open and in comes the 20-year-old, Jos Verlooy. And this

:22:35.:22:45.

horse is gaining in value every moment that he's in the ring.

:22:46.:22:52.

Lovely, big horse, Belgian bred. The owner is the rider's father.

:22:53.:23:09.

Cool as a cucumber. He's got to jump it to force a tie. Or if he has it

:23:10.:23:16.

down, of course, it's a win for Germany.

:23:17.:23:28.

The audience fall quiet. Hilmar Meyer's gone clear. This man now

:23:29.:23:45.

looking to share the 2015 Christmas Show here. Joss Verlooy. Quietly

:23:46.:23:51.

into the corner. Brilliant tactics, he's got to wait. Little change of

:23:52.:24:00.

mind but he's done it! He had to just take a little pull and say,

:24:01.:24:04.

wait for me, got into exactly the right place, and again he made it

:24:05.:24:15.

look so easy. I haven't seen a horse, and many have jumped 7 foot

:24:16.:24:19.

over the years, but I don't think I've ever seen a horse make it look

:24:20.:24:24.

so easy. That was really so simple. Little change of mind, got to the

:24:25.:24:28.

right place, and again, way over the top of it. This horse could go

:24:29.:24:36.

another ten centimetres easily. Extraordinary amount of power.

:24:37.:24:39.

Amazing. Joint winners again. We have seen that a few times over the

:24:40.:24:45.

years. We have. And there's been one of the special nights again, a win

:24:46.:24:48.

for Germany and here we One of the best.

:24:49.:25:07.

Welcome to Olympia, your first time here and what a way to start? My

:25:08.:25:12.

first time here, only been here as a groom 30 years ago with my boss.

:25:13.:25:16.

It's an amazing atmosphere here and I'm really proud of my horse that I

:25:17.:25:22.

could win today. An incredible atmosphere for the Puissance night?

:25:23.:25:29.

I've never rode a Puissance with an atmosphere like this. In the first

:25:30.:25:33.

round he was a little sticky but got better? He was spooky because of the

:25:34.:25:37.

green in front of the wall, he had not seen it before and he was quite

:25:38.:25:41.

trying, in the first round my feeling was not so well. A lovely

:25:42.:25:46.

birthday present to yourself, you've just turned 20, what a way to cap it

:25:47.:25:54.

off? Yes, very exciting. My father jumped the Puissance before and won

:25:55.:25:58.

it. He rides easy and made it easy for me. You calm him down, use the

:25:59.:26:02.

corners and take a walk and he looks like he's a relaxed horse, or is

:26:03.:26:07.

that you? No, he is relaxed and I try to keep him relaxed so he

:26:08.:26:11.

doesn't get too excited and that all worked out good today. I tried to

:26:12.:26:17.

give him a walk and make him calm and he stayed calm every round, so I

:26:18.:26:22.

was happy with that. To present the awards tonight,

:26:23.:26:27.

delighted that Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cornwall here to

:26:28.:26:33.

witness what has been a very special evening, she comes nearly every year

:26:34.:26:41.

and loves her visit. Of course, there's just so much equine

:26:42.:26:48.

entertainment that really is there for everyone and Her Royal Highness

:26:49.:26:52.

has thoroughly enjoyed her evening, I have no doubt.

:26:53.:27:00.

So, the moment, that if you want to compete, the moment that will always

:27:01.:27:04.

take you on to cloud 9. The lap of honour. And here at Olympia, so

:27:05.:27:12.

very, very special. Jos Verlooy for Belgium, Hilmar Meyer for Germany,

:27:13.:27:18.

the joint Puissance winners for Olympia 2015. Tim and I have made it

:27:19.:27:24.

into this absolutely beautiful arena, not long now until the World

:27:25.:27:28.

Cup qualifier, the London leg here, and this is a huge course, this is a

:27:29.:27:33.

huge fence! I mean look at the size of it. What can you tell us? How

:27:34.:27:37.

would you approach a fence like this? This is fairly early in the

:27:38.:27:41.

course. We have one and two. Straightaway, this is number three,

:27:42.:27:46.

coming via the entrance, so horses already looking at the entrance

:27:47.:27:48.

maybe thinking that's where they want to go to and straightaway the

:27:49.:27:52.

first big test. The thing is, there is a lot of poles, no great filter.

:27:53.:27:57.

Normally we'd have a wall or brush in here, there's nothing. Also

:27:58.:28:03.

looking straight through it. That will look a daunting prospect. They

:28:04.:28:07.

could back off that and the width is going to catch a lot of horses out.

:28:08.:28:11.

Where is their eye line at this point because they can see through a

:28:12.:28:14.

fence, they can see the next fence and the crowd? That's right. As a

:28:15.:28:18.

general rule they'll be looking straight through this, so the fact

:28:19.:28:21.

there's no fill, they'll nearly be looking at the second aspect of this

:28:22.:28:25.

line before they jump the first, so that can cause problems. To walk the

:28:26.:28:30.

distance, between this triple bar, which is a spread fence, it shows

:28:31.:28:36.

that is a big indication of how the riders can go. Let's take a look at

:28:37.:28:42.

this in terms of wing span. I I'll put my wings out but I can't

:28:43.:28:47.

speak at the same time. This is where they are taking off from. Yes,

:28:48.:28:50.

so they are further. So you are talking in the region of about 15-18

:28:51.:28:57.

feet of spread, the horse is going to leap, now be careful! Tim is now

:28:58.:29:03.

going to stride this. It's a bit hectic. The basic stride pattern is

:29:04.:29:07.

12 feet, just under four metres, the horse's stride length. I'm going to

:29:08.:29:11.

work out a landing which is approximately there and every four

:29:12.:29:16.

of my steps is equal to one horse stride. One, two, three, one, two,

:29:17.:29:23.

three, one, two, three, that's where the horse will take off for this

:29:24.:29:29.

next fence. You can see again it's a very tall, vertical... But it's a

:29:30.:29:36.

different fence isn't it? We don't just have the pulls, we have a

:29:37.:29:40.

plank. Yes, they fall off very easily. I only have to gently touch

:29:41.:29:45.

that and it will slide off. I'm glad you touched it and not me, I don't

:29:46.:29:50.

want to be responsible for this. It shows the carefulness for this.

:29:51.:29:54.

Horses don't jump white fences very well. It's long distance and this is

:29:55.:30:03.

going to fall off a lot. We need to keep out of the way of the riders.

:30:04.:30:06.

This is their homework, the only time they get to see this course and

:30:07.:30:11.

Tim is off again. This is heading into five, Tim?

:30:12.:30:18.

Mar, Three strides. Four strides. Five strides. This is five strides

:30:19.:30:25.

and it is a bit short this five strides. Again the riders have got

:30:26.:30:32.

to wait a bit. The width, when you look at it, it is massive wide. Can

:30:33.:30:37.

I just grab a word. What do you make of course. Good, everything is tight

:30:38.:30:42.

off the turns. It is not the biggest course we have seen, but it will

:30:43.:30:49.

take plenty of jumping. I have a nine-year-old Super Sox who

:30:50.:30:54.

hopefully goes well. Let's have a word. He was trying to get the Irish

:30:55.:30:59.

position turned around for qualification for Rio, what do you

:31:00.:31:03.

think of the chances of that? I think they have to take that chance,

:31:04.:31:08.

but I have to say I think they're on a very sticky wicket with it. I

:31:09.:31:13.

think it is a feel the pain thing and you can't legislate. What

:31:14.:31:19.

happens when a bird flies open or somebody opens a newspaper. They're

:31:20.:31:22.

right to have a go, but I have a feeling they will be doomed. That is

:31:23.:31:32.

a big word. Keiran O'Connor said he will keep preparing as if he was in

:31:33.:31:37.

Rio. Keiran said everything is quick off the corner. You're going into a

:31:38.:31:41.

corner, a wide fence, but as you're coming out tshs first part of triple

:31:42.:31:49.

is two strides off this turn. You have no time to prepare and get your

:31:50.:31:54.

horse organised. We will look at that now. It is like crossing a busy

:31:55.:32:01.

road. It is always a frantic time. You only have a few minutes to learn

:32:02.:32:05.

the course. Let's follow it around. This is incredible. Again so, close

:32:06.:32:10.

to coming off the turn. You have got two strides. And quite a big

:32:11.:32:15.

vertical. I'm going to enter a second. Ben, who are you doing your

:32:16.:32:26.

course walk with. This is Nevara they own Diya. Are you enjoying it.

:32:27.:32:31.

Yes it looks like it is so much bigger than up there. It looks like

:32:32.:32:37.

really big. What do you think of it? It looks a big course, jumps are

:32:38.:32:43.

coming fast, a lot of distances are short. We need some of the more

:32:44.:32:47.

handy horses. We will have a good week. You must be delighted with

:32:48.:32:55.

Diva. Yes she had to work hard on his own. She had gone form here last

:32:56.:33:01.

year. It was her first win. Hopefully we can can repeat that.

:33:02.:33:09.

Thank you. Enjoy. You're back. We were saying about the combination.

:33:10.:33:13.

This is unusual, there is only one stride between. If the horse is

:33:14.:33:18.

unbalanced, he will come quickly on them. Few get one part wrong, the

:33:19.:33:25.

next part is wrong. It is a bit long. This is where the horse will

:33:26.:33:29.

take off from. That back rail is a long way away. This is critical they

:33:30.:33:34.

get their pace right and the balance and power in the centre. I think

:33:35.:33:44.

that face said it all. It is not like you have two parts. You have

:33:45.:33:49.

the treble just to... Going back again, one stries in here. And --

:33:50.:33:55.

one stride in here and the horse has to off his back end, use his balance

:33:56.:34:00.

and technique to jump this fence in the correct way. Too much power and

:34:01.:34:06.

you will hit it. No 7 is on a blind turn. The horses are get nothing

:34:07.:34:12.

respite and they will come out like bullets. They will need

:34:13.:34:15.

concentration all the way through. We have been looking at the fences

:34:16.:34:20.

in the middle. Up with thing I always think, look to see how close

:34:21.:34:25.

these fences are right to the wall. I will try not to get in anyone's

:34:26.:34:33.

way. But it is incredible. There is something very special. The crowd is

:34:34.:34:38.

here. When you're jumping, you're coming and you can almost smell the

:34:39.:34:45.

perfume on the ladies, or literally the... This a what you have been

:34:46.:34:48.

doing all these years? It is strange. It is unlike any arena I

:34:49.:34:55.

have jumped in. Normally they're away back. Here they're up close and

:34:56.:34:59.

personal. We have been walking around the first round. But not

:35:00.:35:06.

usual to necessarily all levels of competition, you might get the

:35:07.:35:10.

chance to walk a jump off. They don't get the chance to walk a jump

:35:11.:35:13.

off. How many will be looking at that. Most of them. It is kritsical.

:35:14.:35:22.

He will -- critical. He will be stripping the arena bare and they

:35:23.:35:26.

won't get a chance. If they're later on in the competition, they're not

:35:27.:35:30.

panicking. If you're in the first six, this is quite a frantic time.

:35:31.:35:34.

Because you're learning the first round and looking at the jump off

:35:35.:35:38.

course and you have got go out and get prepared. It is quite a frantic

:35:39.:35:44.

time for all this information to be coming in and trying to lodge in the

:35:45.:35:48.

brainbox. What position would you Reich to be starting -- like to be

:35:49.:35:54.

starting if you were riding in this class. The latter third of draw is

:35:55.:35:59.

always the best. You get the play of the course, what is causing the

:36:00.:36:03.

trouble and there is a distance problem down the last line that is

:36:04.:36:08.

so complicated and the early riders won't know what the best distance,

:36:09.:36:13.

whether to go on the five and long one or a short and waiting one. Can

:36:14.:36:18.

we make it to the line in one minute? Very quickly. I will explain

:36:19.:36:25.

the situation. Let's break into a run! Just as we talking I will tell

:36:26.:36:32.

you. You have got to decide whether to go five strides. And be on the

:36:33.:36:37.

inside line to jump this big one. But you're going to be a long way

:36:38.:36:44.

away. Or go deeper and make it six. But look how wide the fence is. It

:36:45.:36:53.

must be four feet wide? It is. That is a very wide fence. I'm not a

:36:54.:37:03.

midget. Tim, I think we have done an excellent job. Their sprinkling

:37:04.:37:11.

snow. It is not just show jumping here. We have had two great nights

:37:12.:37:16.

of dressage and it was in front of a packed crowd. Last year everybody

:37:17.:37:24.

came to see Charlotte Dujardin and Aleg row. This year she was riding a

:37:25.:37:43.

new horse. And there is a new free style style. British dressage has

:37:44.:37:57.

gone from strength to strength. Now the moment this full house has been

:37:58.:38:03.

waiting for. She has taken Britain to the top of the world.

:38:04.:38:16.

Beautifully balanced turn. It all looks so easy and this a exactly how

:38:17.:38:23.

it should look. Confident performance.

:38:24.:38:34.

The free style last Wednesday. Beautiful changes more than make up

:38:35.:38:44.

for that error in the corner. Watch this.

:38:45.:39:02.

She is really getting every ounce out of this horse. Part of Olympic

:39:03.:39:16.

gold medal team in London. A bit of a wobble there. : There we are. This

:39:17.:39:27.

girl holds the world records at free style, Grand Prix and Grand Prix

:39:28.:39:32.

special. Some in this very arena. Has she done enough to win her third

:39:33.:39:36.

free style to music here in the grand hall? The crowd, they really

:39:37.:39:47.

love her and she has certainly pulled all the stops out. The

:39:48.:39:57.

technical will put her in the lead. Artistic is where she often scores

:39:58.:40:03.

great marks. It is a new leading score for Great Britain. On 82.550.

:40:04.:40:12.

A strong performance from Charlotte and a horse she has only competed a

:40:13.:40:16.

handful of times and not for 18 months. Carl Hester knew he and his

:40:17.:40:23.

huge horse would have to be at their best. Looking at the strength of the

:40:24.:40:29.

horse. And the horse has matured in this last year. Could it get him

:40:30.:40:37.

anywhere near that score of Charlotte's, 82.550? He an important

:40:38.:40:49.

part of that silver medal in Achen, together with the silver in the

:40:50.:40:55.

worlds. He has already done a pirouette and he is going to go into

:40:56.:41:02.

canter. A high degree of difficulty. He has not got down the first centre

:41:03.:41:10.

line yet. He is upping his game. Getting these free styles into that

:41:11.:41:15.

degree of difficulty. So he can really be competitive with the very

:41:16.:41:25.

best in the free style. And the very best go over 90% when it is their

:41:26.:41:31.

day and there are these days a lot in the 80s. But this man know what

:41:32.:41:33.

is it takes. Music compiled by Tom Hunt. I can't

:41:34.:41:51.

believe how much this horse has matured. That impressive start

:41:52.:42:05.

continued. Carl came up with this technical regime to try and give him

:42:06.:42:17.

the edge over Charlotte on Utopia. This is the final line. Has that

:42:18.:42:30.

floor plan been enough? Carl is thrilled. This man has done more

:42:31.:42:36.

than anyone can believe for British dressage and he deserves a big one.

:42:37.:42:47.

He really does. Here is the moment for Carl Hester. Was that floor plan

:42:48.:42:55.

good enough it looks as if it is 83.75. He has never won this Olympia

:42:56.:43:02.

round and that will mean so much to him. What a night for British

:43:03.:43:09.

dressage. Carl Hester government his first win at Olympia. He has been

:43:10.:43:19.

hearing the national anthem for Charlotte Dujardin, but this time it

:43:20.:43:32.

was for him. It feels fantastic. It feels fantastic, because I'm sot

:43:33.:43:37.

excited about this horse. It might not be a made I have won, but it is

:43:38.:43:41.

a huge class. I took the rule book and read it, ands I was like this

:43:42.:43:48.

said it is difficult and I will put everything into except the kitchen

:43:49.:43:51.

sink and made it as difficult as I could. I had to do that, because

:43:52.:43:57.

this horse isn't the physical specimen of the others, but he has

:43:58.:44:01.

the brain of the gold medallist. I was very happy. He has not competed

:44:02.:44:06.

for nearly two years and to come here, we won the Grand Prix

:44:07.:44:10.

yesterday and he felt fresh and alive yesterday. He was a bit tired

:44:11.:44:15.

today. A few blips. But I was really happy. He tried really hard. In some

:44:16.:44:24.

ways is there less pressure when your not riding Valegro? Yes I can

:44:25.:44:29.

just have fun. I have so much fun with Valegro, but I have that

:44:30.:44:32.

pressure to be at the top all of the time. So yeah it is really nice to

:44:33.:44:37.

have that change. The horse is turning into something I never

:44:38.:44:42.

thought he was. And with Rio only what is it now eight months away,

:44:43.:44:46.

that is exciting that I'm getting that score now. That was my first

:44:47.:44:51.

attempt at it. It is a difficult programme. You can't wait. You love

:44:52.:44:54.

your champagne. I thought we would do a toast. Cheers. That is

:44:55.:45:02.

gorgeous. The merry couple! And great teamwork. Charlotte, where do

:45:03.:45:08.

you think by the time you get to Rio that you and Nip Tuck will be? I

:45:09.:45:14.

will be standing next to Charlotte I'm hoping on a podium. Valegro is a

:45:15.:45:19.

one in a million, so I don't know whether we will achieve that. But we

:45:20.:45:25.

have to think about a team medal and with Valegro and Nip Nuk and Fiona's

:45:26.:45:32.

horse and the talent that is coming along at senior level, I don't see

:45:33.:45:36.

why we can't repeat what happened in London and what sports can you have

:45:37.:45:40.

a glass of champagne when you finish. Most poor sports people have

:45:41.:45:46.

to go to bed with a sandwich and a glass of kwaert! Water! !

:45:47.:45:56.

Tim, a word on Charlotte Dujardin, she's a rider you know. A lot of

:45:57.:46:04.

people think of her as dressage mostly, but she spent time at your

:46:05.:46:10.

yard? That's right. She had a few lessons with us at 15-year-old. We

:46:11.:46:15.

could see she was always going to be a good rider. We are absolutely

:46:16.:46:20.

thrilled she's turned into a great rider. How different are the skills

:46:21.:46:26.

from dressage to a rider? You have to work on suppleness and obedience,

:46:27.:46:33.

dressage and show jumping are close bed fellows, it's still about horse

:46:34.:46:38.

and rider working together. Another young lady making the headlines is

:46:39.:46:44.

19-year-old Jessica Mendosa and what a year she's had.

:46:45.:46:51.

Youngest rider to represent Britain, British show jumping young rider,

:46:52.:46:55.

it's not been a bad year? ! No, it's a dream come true actually. In terms

:46:56.:46:59.

of importance, what is your highlight? I think although my

:47:00.:47:04.

performance didn't go the best, the show was the best for me because it

:47:05.:47:10.

was a real learning experience and put me on the map to get the results

:47:11.:47:14.

that I had at the beginning of the year. I didn't think I would be on

:47:15.:47:21.

the nation's cup. I couldn't ask for more. What's changed from the

:47:22.:47:24.

beginning of the year to where you are now? I'm not sure, a partnership

:47:25.:47:28.

maybe with my horse, we've stepped up to the five star level and can do

:47:29.:47:32.

it nearly every week. More consistent at that height I think.

:47:33.:47:35.

It must be nice doing it with that horse because you two have been a

:47:36.:47:38.

partnership for such a long time, haven't you? It gives us the extra

:47:39.:47:44.

bit of a bond so we've done it from the beginning, we jumped 1 metre 30

:47:45.:47:51.

together, now it's 1 metre 60. What does it mean to be back in the UK

:47:52.:47:55.

with Spirit, how big a deal is it? It's a great deal. I jumped the

:47:56.:47:59.

Young Riders on here a few years ago and to come back and now do the

:48:00.:48:03.

Seniors and to have a chance at doing well in the World Cup, it's

:48:04.:48:10.

great. You and your family have made a big sacrifice, you are obviously

:48:11.:48:13.

very proud and British, but you decided to move to Europe to further

:48:14.:48:17.

your career? Yes, it was a family decision and because of the

:48:18.:48:20.

travelling from England to Holland is eight hours every time and it's

:48:21.:48:27.

also hard to get the younger horses out because you have to prioritise

:48:28.:48:30.

taking the good horses to the international shows so now I can go

:48:31.:48:33.

every weekend with different horses and a lot less travelling. In terms

:48:34.:48:37.

of riders you looked up to when you were younger, who were those riders?

:48:38.:48:42.

I think I would say the Whittaker family because, yes, they were all

:48:43.:48:46.

out there, all of them were winning and now to compete alongside them

:48:47.:48:53.

it's really nice. Lovely to see new partners and young riders coming

:48:54.:48:56.

through and there seems to be huge strength and depth? We have older

:48:57.:49:00.

and younger ones and we have so much talent in England and people need to

:49:01.:49:05.

find the right horses. We have really great combinations coming

:49:06.:49:08.

through. What about your chances for Rio, where do you think they are?

:49:09.:49:12.

Hopeful. If Spirit jumps well the rest of the year, I could have a

:49:13.:49:15.

chance. I would almost have to do more than the other team members

:49:16.:49:18.

because they have so much more experience and more probably to be

:49:19.:49:22.

considered. So in order for me to get on the team, I need to do my

:49:23.:49:25.

best. She is doing her best because on

:49:26.:49:30.

Friday night she showcased the talents in spectacular style. Just

:49:31.:49:36.

look at this! I was told of this jumpoff round she did. They said,

:49:37.:49:41.

unless you saw how fast she went, you wouldn't believe it. The term

:49:42.:49:45.

rising star is overly used in my opinion but I think this young

:49:46.:49:49.

lady's set for big things. Every time she steps up a level, she's not

:49:50.:49:53.

daunted by it. Look how aggressive she is, she's really going for the

:49:54.:49:57.

win there, everything about the way she's riding, confidence, and a real

:49:58.:50:01.

panache, look at that! Interesting because that time was saved between

:50:02.:50:05.

one and two, at that point no-one chose to go that route, she wanted

:50:06.:50:08.

to. After that, everybody else followed her but she was still

:50:09.:50:12.

quickest. How good a rider do you think she is? Again just what you

:50:13.:50:17.

said there, nobody had done that turn, she backed herself, went

:50:18.:50:20.

really positive. A lot of people talk about the mental toughness

:50:21.:50:22.

you've got to have for this sport. This young lady had it in spades

:50:23.:50:27.

because she's not frightened by the competition and she's literally

:50:28.:50:31.

going for the win so failure is not an option as far as she's concerned.

:50:32.:50:35.

She wants to win. That's half the battle. The horses are warming up

:50:36.:50:42.

for the World Cup qualifiers. Jessica Mendoza is in that with

:50:43.:50:47.

Spirit. Who are you looking out for, 36 starters? A A lot of people could

:50:48.:50:53.

win it. There are some really good pairings today. My eye is drawn

:50:54.:51:01.

towards Torniche and Johnson. She goes well at Olympia, so she'll try

:51:02.:51:06.

to make a counting round. That is a horse that only has one eye? Yes.

:51:07.:51:12.

Which you think would be tricky? Massive trust. This is the highlight

:51:13.:51:18.

of her winter season, for sure. Robert Whittaker's gone well on

:51:19.:51:22.

catwalk, dad John I think is favourite with the bookies, the

:51:23.:51:26.

first course suits him, it really does. A man who is riding on top of

:51:27.:51:39.

his job. Has a strong challenge from one or the two of the Germans. I

:51:40.:51:45.

just look at it and when he walked the course, he looked like a man

:51:46.:51:48.

really in the zone. What is it about the horse that you love so much?

:51:49.:51:53.

He's a class animal. His record says he's capable of doing it. That was

:51:54.:51:58.

an uncharacteristic mistake he made there. He's not on top form. After

:51:59.:52:02.

today he'll be firing on all cylinders. We mentioned Jos Verlooy,

:52:03.:52:08.

in the Puissance with Sunshine, how odd is that to have a Puissance then

:52:09.:52:12.

turn up for a World Cup? 20 years ago that was nearly everybody's

:52:13.:52:15.

route to the Grand Prix training, jumping over a big wall, get the

:52:16.:52:18.

horse on the back foot, using himself, then he'd be ready for the

:52:19.:52:21.

Grand Prix. It's changed a lot. To get a horse that's so brave here for

:52:22.:52:26.

a Puissance and so careful for these type of modern day courses is a very

:52:27.:52:33.

rare thing. He said he did it in Washington just because there

:52:34.:52:36.

weren't so many classes for the horse, worked very well, the horse

:52:37.:52:41.

jumped fantastic in the World Cup. He's doing it again trying to

:52:42.:52:50.

replicate the training. Tim had a fun course walkout but here is the

:52:51.:52:53.

virtual tour. Just having a look at this huge

:52:54.:52:59.

course. Quickly out of the corner over here, then a left handed run to

:53:00.:53:03.

a vertical which is an interesting part of the course. A lot of space

:53:04.:53:07.

all the way past the entrance back to the triple bar at 3. Five strides

:53:08.:53:19.

down to the corner. Very difficult turn here. This comes quickly,

:53:20.:53:25.

combination. A vertical coming in and out. Big Ox for the middle, both

:53:26.:53:32.

on one strides and left-handed then running, six strides up to number 7.

:53:33.:53:39.

Big Oxer across the middle. So tight off the corner, interesting part of

:53:40.:53:45.

the course. That is going to cause a few problems. Then across to a very

:53:46.:53:51.

delicate style on six strides. Another vertical. This is a very

:53:52.:53:57.

careful koushes and we've got the huge fence coming up now that Tim

:53:58.:54:01.

talked about earlier. This one on five or six strides. 170-plus wide

:54:02.:54:08.

then four strides to a light vertical towards the entrance.

:54:09.:54:17.

Quite a big field, 36 in a World Cup is pretty big. Lots of stars there

:54:18.:54:25.

on that page. O'Connor one of the favourites. Been in good form and

:54:26.:54:35.

has a God record on this arena. On page two, Jos Verlooy outstanding

:54:36.:54:40.

for a 20-year-old. Delestre for France is one of the favourites for

:54:41.:54:49.

me. Brash is there. Ehning, really improving. And of course the

:54:50.:54:58.

European champion of 2009. On that page alone, Deusser, Eckermann,

:54:59.:55:01.

Allen, all three good enough to win this. It's quite open as far as this

:55:02.:55:07.

London round of the World Cup is concerned. The Western European

:55:08.:55:12.

League is one of 16 leagues around the world that lead to the final in

:55:13.:55:19.

Gothenburg in March. The venue at Gothenburg one of the most famous

:55:20.:55:24.

ones. The finals have been held there 14 times that this

:55:25.:55:30.

competition's been run. It has made show jumping the most universal

:55:31.:55:34.

sport of the world as far as horses are concerned without a doubt and

:55:35.:55:37.

it's a very, very big are concerned without a doubt and

:55:38.:55:43.

actually then goes from Gothenburg out to the outdoor season and leads

:55:44.:55:49.

on of course to the Rio Olympics. Quite an important road to the big

:55:50.:56:01.

one this year. We start with France and it is Olivier Robert who retired

:56:02.:56:06.

from show jumping for two or three years but has come back, has had

:56:07.:56:11.

some quite good form, had a good second at a Grand Prix in Salzburg.

:56:12.:56:18.

His horse quennelle is an 11-year-old. His best form was on

:56:19.:56:22.

the Moroccan tour. They have a World Cup tour there, he finished third in

:56:23.:56:26.

the World Cup there. One has to say it's not as competitive as this

:56:27.:56:32.

Western European League, that is the most competitive league in the world

:56:33.:56:35.

Andy isn't it? This is certainly in the big time. This is a difficult

:56:36.:56:45.

mare to ride in such a small arena. The bridle is controlling her.

:56:46.:56:52.

Three strides and the five strides working very nicely there. There's

:56:53.:56:59.

the quick turn. Interesting off the corner straight into the

:57:00.:57:06.

combination. Tremendous scope there. Looking good so far. This is the

:57:07.:57:10.

next really difficult part of the course. So tight off the corner,

:57:11.:57:16.

right by the edge of the arena. Nicely done. Now, just to remind

:57:17.:57:24.

you, the time allowed, 69 seconds. Always interesting the first one to

:57:25.:57:26.

go, he's kept up a very big canter. Still clear and well inside the

:57:27.:57:43.

time. APPLAUSE

:57:44.:57:45.

A live aye wouldn't be rasheded as one of the favourites and he's

:57:46.:57:50.

jumped one or two decent rounds this week and that certainly looks a very

:57:51.:57:55.

good start for the French man -- Olivier. Fabulous round all the way,

:57:56.:58:00.

kept up a good pace. Might be a bit deceiving for other riders who

:58:01.:58:04.

watched that thinking the time is going to be quite easy because this

:58:05.:58:08.

mare does really cover the ground. Huge amount of scope. Stayed careful

:58:09.:58:14.

all the way. Looks to me as though we could get a few clear rounds

:58:15.:58:21.

here. The course designer from Portugal spent a lot of time with

:58:22.:58:29.

Bob Ellis and the team under Bob in London 2012.

:58:30.:58:41.

We could have a very special afternoon's sport here. Guy

:58:42.:58:48.

Williams, one of Britain's torch riders for many years, riding the

:58:49.:58:53.

horse owned by Guy, Titus, the horse that he won a team bronze on in the

:58:54.:59:00.

Europeans in 2011 in Madrid. Then sold on and came back to Guy and

:59:01.:59:07.

he's winning some decent classes, went out in Spruce Meadows and is

:59:08.:59:12.

also a good Grand Prix winner in France, on Titus.

:59:13.:59:19.

Titus one of those incredibly powerful horses but he does get

:59:20.:59:27.

quite strong. Guy doing a great job of keeping him steady and balanced

:59:28.:59:29.

so far. Maybe we are going to get some clear

:59:30.:59:38.

rounds today. This isn't the biggest course, it's technical, the fences

:59:39.:59:46.

come quickly, the second rider, two fences to go. And are we going to

:59:47.:59:54.

get another clear? Just buffers the last but it stays. He too inside the

:59:55.:00:01.

time. We've seen the time isn't going to be a big influence. Titus

:00:02.:00:10.

came slightly on an angle into the double at 8 but stayed really

:00:11.:00:15.

careful all the way, big stretch over the second last. This isn't the

:00:16.:00:23.

biggest course, two clears already. Best it's been very much the feature

:00:24.:00:27.

of the design this week, a lot of clear rounds to start with. Funnily

:00:28.:00:31.

enough as the competition's gone on, the clear rounds have tended to thin

:00:32.:00:37.

out. Now it's Sweden's very experienced rider who started off

:00:38.:00:42.

very many years ago based with Mark Todd, but he's now very much part of

:00:43.:00:48.

the Swedish team, he was in the nations cup winning team,

:00:49.:00:56.

Fredricson, Peder, he was in the team that finished second in

:00:57.:01:01.

Rotterdam. Solid competitor, good win indoors in Stockholme some six

:01:02.:01:05.

weeks ago and has had a win here this week.

:01:06.:01:14.

That line, the three and the five, riding extremely level.

:01:15.:01:35.

So Frederickson. Are we going to get another clear? The course jumping

:01:36.:01:39.

extremely well at the moment. Six strides nice and comfortable.

:01:40.:02:01.

Just the last and another one. It is three clear round out of Klee.

:02:02.:02:10.

Three. One for Sweden. Three horses round, three clear. Guy, how is it

:02:11.:02:16.

riding? It has rode all right. It is not the biggest in the world, but it

:02:17.:02:21.

is tight and everything comes quick. So it was fine for me. How do you

:02:22.:02:26.

think your horse goes in an arena like this in a jump off. My horses

:02:27.:02:32.

are all better in jump offs. We will try our best. We will see. Thanks.

:02:33.:02:44.

Back inside now Nicola Philippaerts, very dedicated twins. Son of Ludo,

:02:45.:02:58.

who was a great winner here on. Nicola has had a very good series on

:02:59.:03:04.

the circuit, which counts in the western European in the United

:03:05.:03:11.

States. Had two very good placings in third place on that American

:03:12.:03:16.

circuit. Oh. Sorry to stop you. He came off the corn we are a forward

:03:17.:03:20.

stride and had a completely wrong distance. Jumped straight into the

:03:21.:03:25.

middle of the triple bar. That was a nasty bar. Thanky with the modern --

:03:26.:03:33.

thankfully with the modern jumps they disintegrated. The first rider

:03:34.:03:37.

to fault. But in a very spectacular one. Certainly worth having another

:03:38.:03:47.

look at that. Settled things down. He was trying to keep a strong

:03:48.:03:52.

rhythm around the corner and you rarely see riders at this level make

:03:53.:03:58.

such a big mistake. He really was half a length off. Around very

:03:59.:04:06.

quickly. But three fences down. Quite costly. Washington and Las

:04:07.:04:15.

Vegas he had some good performances. But he finishes on 12. You see he

:04:16.:04:20.

took off and he didn't know whether to put another stride in or not. The

:04:21.:04:27.

horse kind of shut his eye and jumped straight into the middle of

:04:28.:04:35.

the fence. But he is our first rider to have any faults. That is a round

:04:36.:04:44.

he probably wants to forget. In comes Britain's William Whittaker.

:04:45.:04:50.

The stable jockey for Michael Whittaker and had some good horses

:04:51.:04:54.

to ride over the years. Now riding from his own yard. And he is riding

:04:55.:05:03.

well. But he is realising to ride for yourself, finding horses and

:05:04.:05:11.

things isn't easy Pisi. But he had a good win last night. He is in form.

:05:12.:05:18.

But he has not jumped in this sort of company very often in the last

:05:19.:05:20.

two or three months. Let's just study William's riding.

:05:21.:05:32.

If you look at his technically, his lower leg position, his upper body

:05:33.:05:39.

balance and the way he uses his aids is copy book. As Mike was saying, he

:05:40.:05:52.

won a brilliant jump off class lapt. -- last night. If anyone wants to

:05:53.:05:57.

really back a rider and send a rider to the top of the world rankings in

:05:58.:06:02.

the way that Scott Brash got the backing a few years ago, this is the

:06:03.:06:07.

man with the quality. I would agree with that. Just coming down to this

:06:08.:06:21.

last line. Still clear. Oh! What a shame! Down goes the last. No

:06:22.:06:36.

problem with the time. I gave him the big build up. He didn't quite

:06:37.:06:41.

produce the clear round. But he is still worth watching. He has got

:06:42.:06:46.

tremendous feeling for his horse and Fandango can get strong at the end

:06:47.:06:50.

of the course and four strides there, he quickened. So

:06:51.:06:55.

unfortunately William just ran a bit close to the last fence. William's

:06:56.:07:01.

wife just talking to him as they walk out. Herself a very successful

:07:02.:07:06.

show jumper. They have a lovely young family. Back in the ring, a

:07:07.:07:13.

man who lives in southern Germany, rode for Germany for a number of

:07:14.:07:21.

years. But last year, 2014, he switched to Austria and he has had

:07:22.:07:25.

some good performances for Germany. He will be a bonus for the

:07:26.:07:28.

Austrians. Max Kuhner riding Cornet Kalua. He

:07:29.:07:47.

was ninth at Stuttgart. So far in Europe, there have been six rounds.

:07:48.:07:51.

This is the seventh. It continues after Christmas. Leading to that

:07:52.:08:01.

final in Gothenberg in March. As you were saying about the breeding. Very

:08:02.:08:09.

unusual. Nearly every one of the horses seems to be grey, but this is

:08:10.:08:16.

a distinctive dark brown. But a dark jumper. A lot of scope. Very

:08:17.:08:20.

difficult to control these big horses around such a tight arena. He

:08:21.:08:24.

is getting a bit strong towards the end here. Another one with the one

:08:25.:08:36.

down. It is amazing how the formula has been clear rounds to start with

:08:37.:08:46.

and in fact it didn't fall. It was clear for Max Kuhner. You see the

:08:47.:08:51.

power down the combination. Big jumper. Just got a bit strong at the

:08:52.:08:58.

end. But well ridden. Four strides towards home with the water tray

:08:59.:09:03.

beneath that last vertical. The horses just getting a bit tense. The

:09:04.:09:13.

Olympic bronze medallist. Cian O'Connor. He wasn't due to qualify

:09:14.:09:18.

for the individual many London. One horse dropped out so, he got in and

:09:19.:09:24.

climbed the rankings to win the bronze. He is a really strong

:09:25.:09:29.

competitor. Riding this nine-year-old Super Sox. His top

:09:30.:09:37.

horse opt way to floor Da -- his top horse opt way to Florida. Cian's

:09:38.:09:43.

very clever at finding new horses. This is a typical Cian O'Connor

:09:44.:09:49.

horse. A bouncy character. But a massive leap off the floor. He is

:09:50.:09:53.

only nine and you can see him having to work quite hard to make it

:09:54.:10:00.

happen. This is a horse that has impressed a lot of people with

:10:01.:10:11.

tremendous amount of ability. We are getting the clear round and we are

:10:12.:10:17.

not used to seeing that. We normally have fewer and bigger, wider oxers.

:10:18.:10:25.

A big stretch there. Lucky at the last. So he joins the clear rounds.

:10:26.:10:32.

That is five different countries through now, Ireland included. Such

:10:33.:10:41.

bad luck on the last one. He is a horse that does get stronger to the

:10:42.:10:45.

end of the course. Yes especially in a ring like this. It is a ring he

:10:46.:10:50.

always struggles with, the with the crowd so close to the ring and a lot

:10:51.:10:54.

of atmosphere. He has improved from last year. Last year he was really

:10:55.:10:59.

spooky. He jumped a great round. Just unfortunate with the last. You

:11:00.:11:07.

had a great win last night. Yes that was great for everyone. Up to now

:11:08.:11:10.

the horses have been going well. So that bit of luck last night helped

:11:11.:11:12.

the job along. Thanks. Now Geir Gulliksen, a man known to

:11:13.:11:30.

even as Jimmy! And he has a daughter making a name for herself. Went well

:11:31.:11:35.

in the puissance to finish equal third. You might note that Jimmy

:11:36.:11:43.

wearing a pullover. He has had a bit of blood pressure problems. So he

:11:44.:11:49.

has been allowed to wear this special clothing. You normally have

:11:50.:11:54.

to wear a jacket. But Jimmy being given permission to wear that. He

:11:55.:11:58.

was in trouble down that line. I thought he was going to pull up. He

:11:59.:12:06.

sat back and dropped his reins. Just struggling a bit.

:12:07.:12:13.

With the number of clear rounds we have, any riders with faults, you

:12:14.:12:20.

may see some of them decide to retire if they have no chance of

:12:21.:12:23.

getting any prize money. Jimmy battling on. He has just the one

:12:24.:12:29.

down. Jimmy doesn't retire easily. He wants to get through. He is a

:12:30.:12:35.

real competitor. He has some nice young horses. He is meaning to go on

:12:36.:12:40.

in the sport for a few years yet. He wouldn't be one of the youngest of

:12:41.:12:47.

the circuit. He goes home on eight, two fences down, eight faults. Have

:12:48.:12:59.

another look here. This is the early part of the course. Landed on the

:13:00.:13:05.

back rail and it unsettled. He slipped his reins and did well to

:13:06.:13:10.

recover and get down the line. That very wide oxer. That oxer is 175

:13:11.:13:25.

wide. It is a very wide fence. Now the turn of France's Filipe Leonie.

:13:26.:13:34.

He rides for a very strong stable in Belgium. This man part of that team.

:13:35.:13:45.

He had time away from show jumping, four years actually, came back two

:13:46.:13:52.

years ago. And getting the job there would see him in the big time. He

:13:53.:13:59.

went out on that Moroccan tour and had some good placings down there.

:14:00.:14:10.

We had that mass of clear rounds at the start. And just as you would

:14:11.:14:17.

expect, this course is no walk in the park. And we are just seeing one

:14:18.:14:22.

or two riders having a few fences now. Perhaps bringing it back into

:14:23.:14:27.

perspective. Long way off the oxer but he cleared

:14:28.:14:55.

that one. Had to fight to get the four strides. He got that rattle on

:14:56.:15:01.

it but it stayed up. They're quite lucky there. But it is two down, a

:15:02.:15:03.

total of eight for the Frenchman. The plank has ridden quite well.

:15:04.:15:18.

That was unlucky, just a light touch with the back legs. Qlassic course

:15:19.:15:23.

builder's trick. The sport of show jumping has got

:15:24.:15:38.

some very exciting young men and women and this is one of them. He is

:15:39.:15:45.

20. Just last week. Jos Verlooy, son of the very big dealer, who has

:15:46.:15:55.

dealt some wonderful, big time transactions and Jos made his

:15:56.:15:58.

appearance as a 17-year-old for Belgium. Now he's key part of

:15:59.:16:03.

Belgian team who have had their best season for many years. They won the

:16:04.:16:07.

nations cup in Barcelona. He stated it was his warm-up, like

:16:08.:16:27.

he did in Washington, he got World Cup points there. A very big jumping

:16:28.:16:33.

horse this, Sunshine. Very powerful horse. You see there, Jos had to

:16:34.:16:44.

work extremely hard to shorten up. Sunshine gets quite strong and it's

:16:45.:16:48.

all getting a bit untidy out the corner. Just shows, you can have all

:16:49.:16:54.

the power in the world, but if you don't have the control and can't

:16:55.:16:58.

keep the balance off the way around the course, things really start to

:16:59.:16:59.

unravel. Just over half way through the

:17:00.:17:09.

Western European League where you can take the best six results, all

:17:10.:17:14.

his points were actually set up on the North American circuit and he's

:17:15.:17:17.

currently lying in fifth place but he's not going to add any here. He

:17:18.:17:25.

ends up with four down on 16 faults. Certainly Sunshine would Son be much

:17:26.:17:29.

more suited to a big arena. It's so difficult to control a horse as big

:17:30.:17:35.

and powerful as this. Then he started getting his head and one

:17:36.:17:41.

fence after another coming down. Crossing his jaw and pulling at the

:17:42.:17:43.

last fence. Currently, it's Spain that have

:17:44.:18:16.

qualified. This man is very much part of that. He's had four placings

:18:17.:18:22.

on the Quinn circuit so far, started in Oslo, then went to Helsinki. Had

:18:23.:18:33.

some good results. Spain have had a great record but spent probably 20

:18:34.:18:38.

years in the doldrums and are coming back. He feel a stillful team of

:18:39.:18:47.

which this man is one. The son of Lewis, he's technically absolutely

:18:48.:18:53.

brilliant to watch -- skilful. A lot of flat work to get his horse under

:18:54.:18:59.

control. If he gets the right horses and breaks, he can really go to to

:19:00.:19:01.

the top of the sport. Certainly in your world, Mike, in

:19:02.:19:12.

the eventing world, you would know all had been his father? One of the

:19:13.:19:16.

most respected men there is in the horse world. New Zealand use him as

:19:17.:19:21.

their show jumping expert and everyone knows he is very talented.

:19:22.:19:25.

And this boy is very much following in his foot steps, I have to say.

:19:26.:19:32.

It's one down. We'll hear more of this young man, Eduardo Alvarez

:19:33.:19:45.

Aznar. That was unfortunate. Ran a little

:19:46.:19:50.

tight, fighting for his head to the style and just the one time as well.

:19:51.:20:07.

Andreas Schou, his brother ran a really big competition in Denmark,

:20:08.:20:29.

both of them, but particular hi Andreas, he's been part of Denmark's

:20:30.:20:37.

international teams in recent times. Denmark wouldn't be regarded as

:20:38.:20:40.

being at the forefront of international show jumping, but they

:20:41.:20:43.

put some good teams together in what is like the Second Division in the

:20:44.:20:45.

nation's cup league. A very capable horse. You can see

:20:46.:21:08.

another horse with a big power and capable engine, maybe towards the

:21:09.:21:11.

end of the course, might just get a bit strong.

:21:12.:21:24.

Looked to have a good balance and rhythm coming into that double.

:21:25.:21:30.

Front legs on to the back rail there. I think it's so close to the

:21:31.:21:35.

edge of the arena. Sometimes the horses just tense up.

:21:36.:21:41.

Huge amount of power over the second last, but makes too much ground up.

:21:42.:21:54.

Into the last fence. Two fences down, it's 8 for Andreas Schou.

:21:55.:22:06.

Very difficult to get the horses straight into that double as well.

:22:07.:22:11.

If you look at the angle on the replay, it's most of the horses

:22:12.:22:17.

having to jump in slightly across it. That difficulty with that last

:22:18.:22:22.

fence, it's so wide. The second last, the horse is on their heads

:22:23.:22:30.

coming down the four strides. Sweden now, who have qualified for the Rio

:22:31.:22:37.

Olympics. This is Johan Lundt. He's had a good start to the winter

:22:38.:22:46.

series. Very good class in the competitive Stockholme

:22:47.:22:52.

international. -- Johann Lundh. So often when the big one comes,

:22:53.:22:57.

everyone pulls out the stops. What fascinates me, it's been a real

:22:58.:23:03.

trend here at Olympia on these courses that we start out with a

:23:04.:23:06.

sequence of clear rounds, sometimes more than we've had tonight, and

:23:07.:23:12.

then suddenly, just as we are getting now, it starts to come. I've

:23:13.:23:17.

got to give you credit, because you did call that and that's what's

:23:18.:23:20.

happened. Loads of clears at the beginning and we thought maybe we'd

:23:21.:23:23.

get 20 or something and suddenly a lot of fences coming down, so full

:23:24.:23:27.

marks to you there, you definitely got that one right. Is there money

:23:28.:23:30.

on the end of that? ! LAUGHTER

:23:31.:23:37.

Back to the jumping. A good round here, just the one fence down. Good

:23:38.:23:38.

effort. Another rider finding it tough to

:23:39.:24:00.

get the straightness and balance and produce the jump into that big

:24:01.:24:02.

number 8, so quick off the corner. There goes Johan Lundh of Sweden

:24:03.:24:18.

and, in the ring, one of the big sporting stars for Sweden, it is

:24:19.:24:27.

Malin Baryard-Johnson. Riding the variety talented horse with one eye.

:24:28.:24:37.

Had one or two problems in the past but at his best is very good indeed.

:24:38.:24:44.

She's very open about it, Malin thinks this is the best show in the

:24:45.:24:50.

world, loves it. She brings her family and the Swedish people follow

:24:51.:25:02.

her every move here in London. Great to see this horse back in the sport.

:25:03.:25:06.

The way he's jumping there, he's really getting in the air. Let's

:25:07.:25:11.

just hope she can get round, get into the jumpoff. These two have

:25:12.:25:19.

been a top class combination for so many years.

:25:20.:25:27.

Been to ten World Cup finals. So that is a fantastic record to

:25:28.:25:34.

qualify in what is a very tough qualifying. Bit of a wobble there. A

:25:35.:25:43.

lovely ride. A lovely round. I think it was Tim who had his money on Mali

:25:44.:26:00.

and he could be right -- Malin. Fantastic to see Malin into the

:26:01.:26:05.

jumpoff. Tim Stockdale's tip. Let's see if he's right in the next round.

:26:06.:26:13.

Well, now, Robert Whitaker, Catwalk for me, his top horse now, finished

:26:14.:26:19.

fourth in this class last year behind the two Germans.

:26:20.:26:24.

And he's had quite a good season. Had a bit of ill health, wasn't well

:26:25.:26:30.

after the Horse of the Year show. Had a bit of tame away. Now back to

:26:31.:26:35.

his best, won the first class on his day here and he was in the nation's

:26:36.:26:42.

cup team in Rome which went very well.

:26:43.:26:56.

Hugely powerful, Holstein powerful horse but sometimes doesn't focus

:26:57.:27:02.

and concentrate. A slightly lazy jump mid combination. This is where

:27:03.:27:05.

he's got to really concentrate on his job.

:27:06.:27:14.

Four strides there, really went for it. Has got so much power.

:27:15.:27:35.

Great decision there. Extra stride in and he's over the time! What a

:27:36.:27:42.

shame. Well, he took the extra stride to the second last and that's

:27:43.:27:47.

given him a time fault. It's a bit of a Whitaker problem, one has to

:27:48.:27:52.

say. Father, brother, they've always had the odd time fault from time to

:27:53.:27:56.

time and this one matters for Robert. Yes, it's a great shame for

:27:57.:28:00.

Robert because he did the right thing, he didn't want to have a

:28:01.:28:03.

flyer to the second last so that he had the balance to jump the last.

:28:04.:28:12.

But unfortunately, he's paid for it. Time out of 69 seconds and one time

:28:13.:28:19.

fault for every second. That is where that one fault comes from from

:28:20.:28:25.

Robert and Catwalk. Now, the young lady that's stormed the

:28:26.:28:30.

international show jumping world, Jess Mendoza, Spirit T. Had a

:28:31.:28:34.

fantastic time here Friday night and an important member of the team that

:28:35.:28:38.

got qualification for Britain when they finished fourth in the nation's

:28:39.:28:41.

cup, the European Championships in Germany. Really came of age then,

:28:42.:28:45.

Andy? It was a true test of character for Jess. Always had

:28:46.:28:52.

unbelievable self-confidence but when she was up against it, that

:28:53.:28:58.

last round in Arken, she delivered. She certainly did. Tin Nished in the

:28:59.:29:04.

top three in Helsinki, got no fears, this girl -- finished. I was in

:29:05.:29:09.

Helsinki and she took on everyone there and went flat out, like she

:29:10.:29:13.

did this week, won her big class already this week. Let's hope she

:29:14.:29:22.

gets into the jumpoff, she'll thrill the crowd if she does. No, last

:29:23.:29:31.

fence! Looked to have it in the bag and jumped a little right-handed.

:29:32.:29:41.

Just have a look at this. Came down on the perfect four strides, but

:29:42.:29:48.

just watch. Moved a little right handed in the air and I think Jess

:29:49.:29:53.

looked back, she felt she wasn't quite getting the jump.

:29:54.:30:05.

A beautiful round and that horse gives so much. He does. He was quite

:30:06.:30:13.

a difficult course for us. Many of the difficult jumps comes off his

:30:14.:30:18.

right. A bit like the triple bar, he has to stretch on that one, because

:30:19.:30:24.

he sees it late and that makes him trying a bit harder. He is missing

:30:25.:30:34.

his right eye, so h right-handers are difficult. You must fancy your

:30:35.:30:40.

chances? Yes I love this place and my horse loves the place. It is

:30:41.:30:45.

always very hard to win here. Because the jump-offs are so quick

:30:46.:30:49.

and we have a bit of a handicap with the right side. But I'm going to

:30:50.:30:55.

give it a go. Good luck thank you. We are with another rising star for

:30:56.:31:02.

Finland, well went in the European young riders a couple of years ago

:31:03.:31:07.

and now is making her mark at the top level. Jumped well in the Geneva

:31:08.:31:23.

Grand Prix. It is Anna Giulio Continuo. She has gone well. He got

:31:24.:31:29.

pipped in the jump off behind John Whittaker. Earlier in the week. But

:31:30.:31:40.

she has a fence down. It amazes me, we have seen a lot of superer

:31:41.:31:49.

courses here, but they have used every inch of the arena, to the

:31:50.:31:53.

walls and back. It is very noticeable. Yes, it is so

:31:54.:31:58.

interesting how we are getting riders finding the odd fence here

:31:59.:32:03.

and there. Another unlucky four-faulter. Just fighting a bit to

:32:04.:32:16.

get the balance and control. That was an unlucky hit to have. This

:32:17.:32:24.

young lady is starting to impress with her couple of horses around

:32:25.:32:34.

these five-star shows. If there is one man who has made his mark it is

:32:35.:32:48.

think man, Simon Delestre. He rides Chessal. He won the silver in the

:32:49.:32:55.

European individual Championships and part of French team that was

:32:56.:33:03.

second in the worlds in Normandy. He has had a a great one in the World

:33:04.:33:08.

Cup. In the European league he is second. He is I think you can

:33:09.:33:18.

described, on fire. He has been around for a good few years, but has

:33:19.:33:25.

suddenly got two or three world class horses and he is one of those

:33:26.:33:31.

French riders with tremendous flair. Against the clock he is electric.

:33:32.:33:36.

But we are not going to see that today. That is a shame. He has

:33:37.:33:42.

rocketed up the rankings. He is fourth at the moment. But he has had

:33:43.:33:46.

some very good performances on his new horse in the last three weeks.

:33:47.:33:55.

Finishes on eight. That is one of the favourites out. This is a big

:33:56.:34:08.

horse and finding the arena tight. He has to give him a reminder.

:34:09.:34:15.

Having done that, things got a bit out of balance and that is when you

:34:16.:34:19.

start having those annoying verticals. Disappointing round for

:34:20.:34:26.

Simon. If the crowd haven't told you, let me tell you, this is a man

:34:27.:34:30.

called John Whittaker. You may have heard of him. He has been at the top

:34:31.:34:37.

of the sport for the best part of 45 years. Amazing. And I might add he

:34:38.:34:43.

is riding better than ever. That is what I think of the crowd, he says.

:34:44.:34:49.

I'm going to show you. He has been absolutely brilliant this horse

:34:50.:34:54.

Argento. John's always thought a lot of him. And it is all since he has

:34:55.:34:59.

matured, come of age. There are classes which John know what is this

:35:00.:35:03.

horse is good at and he has targeted that. Will it be now? Well, we are

:35:04.:35:12.

looking at an interesting scenario. When we spoke to the Bernardo who

:35:13.:35:19.

built the course he said it could suit Argento. There is only one wide

:35:20.:35:24.

oxer. He is so careful and he is not a lover of wide fences. John had to

:35:25.:35:29.

work hard down the combination. He doesn't have the biggest stride. He

:35:30.:35:35.

has the next oxer into the double to jump, which will be tough. John, he

:35:36.:35:44.

is working for it. John is giving it 110%. As he always does. But the

:35:45.:35:55.

next test will be the second last. He will have to work and no that is

:35:56.:35:59.

the oxer that has caught him. It was always an oxer that wz maybe going

:36:00.:36:05.

to be a problem. What a pity. The man has been riding so well this

:36:06.:36:10.

week. Leading rider at the start of the day. But he is not going to add

:36:11.:36:15.

to it in the World Cup. He bows out with 8. John did such a brilliant

:36:16.:36:24.

job. You can see him running out of petrol down the last two big oxers.

:36:25.:36:31.

Argento is a brilliant vertical jumper. John couldn't get the old

:36:32.:36:41.

boy to clear the last two. He is still ever green. He still loves it.

:36:42.:36:49.

You can see the arm band, that signifies he is leading rider.

:36:50.:37:06.

And Ben Ben Maher without a top team. The horse has had to do a lot

:37:07.:37:20.

of work. He has been crucial to Britain's season. Not only

:37:21.:37:24.

qualifying for Rio in Germany, but also for a brilliant performance in

:37:25.:37:30.

the nations Cup Final in Barcelona, where Britain finished second behind

:37:31.:37:38.

Belgium. This man put in again a faultless performance. He rode his

:37:39.:37:46.

luck there. This is a combination that we expect to see on the British

:37:47.:37:57.

team in Rio. This mare came of age here last year winning the Grand

:37:58.:38:03.

Prix. She is only ten years old. British bred by the Edgars. One to

:38:04.:38:11.

go. Ben is in form. He won the Masters here yesterday in great

:38:12.:38:15.

form, with a young horse, and he as you can see is riding very

:38:16.:38:23.

competently and very well. Ben Maher and Diva II, it is clear round the

:38:24.:38:31.

second. Ben producing the clear. A couple of times he had to work. She

:38:32.:38:41.

is quite opinion ated as she goes around the corners. Ben is so

:38:42.:38:51.

effective. The other man that is jumping in this class that helped

:38:52.:38:55.

Britain to that gold medal in London. Now Scott Brash, the world's

:38:56.:39:02.

No 1. He has been nearly two years at the top of the world rankings.

:39:03.:39:07.

About a month not off. He has had another great season. Particularly

:39:08.:39:15.

with that amazing three world class Grand Prix victories. One wonders if

:39:16.:39:22.

it will ever be done again. It is a young horse, only nine, Hello

:39:23.:39:27.

M'Lady. It is a big ask. You can see with this mare, she is very sharp.

:39:28.:39:32.

She has a lot of blood. Scott's got to try and control the balance. She

:39:33.:39:40.

almost looks like a thoroughbred, which makes her quite sharp. She is

:39:41.:39:45.

tremendously athletic. Very powerful. Watch her fight for her

:39:46.:39:53.

head. Scott doing a brilliant job. Keeping her calm. He has had some

:39:54.:40:05.

good placingsen this. He was third in ve Rhona. He has take an flyer

:40:06.:40:16.

there. The crowd will love that. Britain's representation are

:40:17.:40:21.

beginning to fill out. That is the third clear round for Great Britain.

:40:22.:40:33.

This is Scott Brash at his best. This mare is very talented, but

:40:34.:40:39.

needs to feel and the sympathies that Scott can bring to the table.

:40:40.:40:44.

He went forward on the six strides to the second last and I don't know

:40:45.:40:48.

how he managed to produce the balance at the last fence. But that

:40:49.:40:51.

is Scott. So much feel for his horses. He muched his cheek -- he

:40:52.:40:59.

puffed his cheeks there. He knew he did well. This is one of greats of

:41:00.:41:08.

Germany. He has won four Olympic golds, including individual gold. It

:41:09.:41:16.

is the great Ludger Beerbaum. Still in the top ten in the world on this

:41:17.:41:28.

lovely mare, Chiara. Has been a big winner for him. Has won two big

:41:29.:41:36.

Grand Prixs. At Munster and Mannheim. He has not been as

:41:37.:41:40.

consistent and fallen down the rankings a bit. He was world No 1 on

:41:41.:41:45.

many occasions. But there is a lot of good riders out there. Even the

:41:46.:41:50.

big guns like Ludger are finding it tough. Yes finding a fence there.

:41:51.:41:54.

Ludger, it is great to have him at the show. He is a legend in the

:41:55.:42:02.

sport. His record is probably in Championships second to none. As you

:42:03.:42:07.

say, last month or two just been having the odd fence here and there.

:42:08.:42:17.

Chiara is so talented. It is disappointing to have that lazy back

:42:18.:42:21.

rail. Very lucky not to have another one. He finishes with just the one

:42:22.:42:29.

in the end. But it will be one too many. He has featured in this World

:42:30.:42:36.

Cup round here in London in the past. Married to an English lady. He

:42:37.:42:48.

likes coming here to London. There is the fence just landing a little

:42:49.:42:52.

steeply. So frustrating. Now for the Netherlands Michael van

:42:53.:43:29.

der Vleuten. He is riding AreraC. He finished sixth. He is 18th in the

:43:30.:43:36.

western European league. He had a good season. The Netherlands won the

:43:37.:43:42.

European team Championship. Michael was part of that. As he was with the

:43:43.:43:52.

world gold in nor Manedy. Where the - Normandy. They didn't get in the

:43:53.:43:57.

first three there. Michael had a disappointing show, but the horses

:43:58.:44:06.

have come back to form. A rarity, only ten years old, but looking like

:44:07.:44:12.

a fantastic replacement for Verdy, which is his main top horse.

:44:13.:44:21.

Another rider that is bred to be in the saddle. His father Eric, a

:44:22.:44:30.

fantastic trainer in Holland, a brilliant rider in his own right. He

:44:31.:44:34.

has had a great grounding from day one. Oh, unlucky fence. That is a

:44:35.:44:44.

shame. We keep seeing a few niggling four faults. This course is doing

:44:45.:44:54.

its stuff. And remember, we have at the moment eight clear rounds. Show

:44:55.:45:01.

jumping can be so cruel. Just that little lack of concentration, you

:45:02.:45:07.

can see the back legs didn't release on the big oxer. Well this

:45:08.:45:13.

combination we see in the ring now is one that is many people's idea of

:45:14.:45:30.

a winner here. It is another Dutchman, Jur Vreiling. On this very

:45:31.:45:40.

good grey horse, Zirocco Blue NOP. NOP is an important thing to watch

:45:41.:45:44.

for the Dutch, it means it is a horse that is retained in the

:45:45.:45:48.

ownership of the Dutch federation so, they can use its for teams.

:45:49.:46:04.

This is a horse who has proper Olympic scope. Used the seeing him

:46:05.:46:17.

in much bigger arenas. But Vreiling is very competitive.

:46:18.:46:30.

In the World Cup series, he's been in very good form. Went well both in

:46:31.:46:39.

Helsinki and Oslo. And he's done it again! No, in fact, he has got

:46:40.:46:48.

inside the time and jumped clear. So he is now clear round number 9.

:46:49.:46:54.

A good start to that, nice clear round. She was really trying hard,

:46:55.:47:00.

wasn't she? She was. She's never going to change, she is how she is,

:47:01.:47:04.

has an opinion around the course but when she's fighting for me like that

:47:05.:47:08.

with the jump, as long as I get where I need to be, she's helping me

:47:09.:47:12.

out. Difficult course for her today, very tight distances. Not really

:47:13.:47:16.

seated to her, but it shows how much she's improved over the last year

:47:17.:47:19.

that she can cope in every environment. Good look in the

:47:20.:47:23.

jumpoff. Thank you. The stars are here. In fact, there

:47:24.:47:29.

are 15 riders out of the top 30 world ranking riders. And here is

:47:30.:47:33.

another one with a great Olympia record and a great record

:47:34.:47:37.

internationally. Olympic gold, he won his team gold in Sydney. Marcus

:47:38.:47:48.

loves coming here to another rider. Always here every year. This horse

:47:49.:47:57.

has been jumping at this level for a year, just beginning to come good

:47:58.:48:07.

and get some very decent results. 15 World Cup finals Marcus has done and

:48:08.:48:18.

he's won three. Very good record for Marcus Ehning. The stallion having a

:48:19.:48:22.

play around the corner there, needs to keep the concentration.

:48:23.:48:34.

If you watch Marcus, he's always coming forward, always fleeing,

:48:35.:48:40.

really attacking this last line. That man at his best is fantastic to

:48:41.:48:57.

watch. Another clear win tore the jumpoff. Scott, it doesn't look the

:48:58.:49:03.

easier course to get into a rhythm on. How is it riding -- winner to

:49:04.:49:10.

the jumpoff? It's twisty-Turney and everything comes up fast. Happy with

:49:11.:49:14.

the horse? Yes, a little sharp at the end but I was happy with how she

:49:15.:49:20.

jumped. Good luck in the jump-off. Thanks.

:49:21.:49:32.

. Another world star, it is Kevin Staut, a classic win in Windsor and

:49:33.:49:36.

he's been top of the world rankings many times. Not just at the top at

:49:37.:49:43.

if very moment but he's in the top ten -- the very moment. He's riding

:49:44.:49:49.

this afternoon and he's done six World Cup finals and he had some

:49:50.:49:54.

very good form in Paris recently. Won a class there and was fifth in

:49:55.:49:57.

the World Cup in Oslo. So frustrating for Kevin, just a

:49:58.:50:06.

lazy jump at the first fence. Always a long way around the course. Not

:50:07.:50:17.

much chance of any prize money but Kevin carrying on. At this stage of

:50:18.:50:23.

the proceedings, you could ask me who I'd put my money on. Let me

:50:24.:50:29.

think, could it be a Frenchman? Marcus Ehning. I waited until he

:50:30.:50:33.

jumped clear before I revealed it! Cheeky. He's made mincemeat of the

:50:34.:50:39.

rest of the course and that first fence very expensive. He'll be

:50:40.:50:46.

kicking himself. Another big gun gone. Plenty still in, one has to

:50:47.:50:51.

say. Ten clears. 11 left to go. Kevin did absolutely nothing wrong.

:50:52.:51:04.

Horses for you, they are not machines. Didn't focus and after

:51:05.:51:14.

that, jump add lovely round on Reveur de Hurtebsie. The one Italian

:51:15.:51:19.

rider that's at Olympia this year, and he certainly is there, ranked

:51:20.:51:26.

25th in the world, eman and he's not the

:51:27.:51:46.

most stylish but very competitive -- Emmanuel. This horse is such a

:51:47.:51:51.

trier. Not all the scope in the world but sometimes it's not always

:51:52.:51:55.

scope that counts, it's the horse's attitude. These two are a pair of

:51:56.:52:04.

fighters and work very hard for each other.

:52:05.:52:30.

The big one for this horse. Great effort. Oh, what a round. Typical of

:52:31.:52:41.

the Italian. He's been managed by one of the best managers there is in

:52:42.:52:47.

the sport and he's certainly focussing the Italians. Emanuele

:52:48.:52:53.

Gaudiano, you've got to give him and his horse 11 out of ten for effort,

:52:54.:52:59.

fighting all the way. And that's what counts. Jumped his clear round.

:53:00.:53:12.

There's Ben Maher looking very pleased with himself. And you can't

:53:13.:53:17.

blame him. He's been in good form this week.

:53:18.:53:29.

Pius Schwizer, produces a lot of horses and often sells them on. Back

:53:30.:53:41.

again with some good horses making that team begin to tick. This horse

:53:42.:53:49.

owned by Peter, PSG Future, which was ridden very successfully by

:53:50.:53:51.

Martin Foulkes, but now with Pius. These two not really clicking. They

:53:52.:54:03.

have had a few in-out rounds over the last couple of months and this

:54:04.:54:06.

is another round where they are not just 100% on the same wavelength.

:54:07.:54:13.

Pius is one of those riders who pulls off an amazing feat of being

:54:14.:54:17.

able to sell horses and produce new ones, but this one not really

:54:18.:54:21.

operating. You can see he looks a bit tight, a bit tense. I'm

:54:22.:54:24.

surprised that Pius is carrying on. Jumps the last. 16. That's for PSG

:54:25.:54:38.

Future. Things just started to go wrong

:54:39.:54:58.

quite early on. Triple bar, didn't make the stretch over the wide

:54:59.:55:02.

fence. Then got really tight in his shoulders over one or two others.

:55:03.:55:08.

Into the combination having all sorts of problems.

:55:09.:55:18.

Now Germany, a man who won this World Cup last year here, Marco

:55:19.:55:32.

Kutscher, riding Chaccorina. He's got an amazing record of stable

:55:33.:55:34.

jockeys that he's mentored. This man a European champion. He

:55:35.:55:56.

finished 11th in the World Cup final last year. Showing some good World

:55:57.:56:02.

Cup form, gone well in Madrid, Verona and Stuttgart. Can uh now

:56:03.:56:09.

repeat last year's victory? -- can he now. Fabulous mare, incredible

:56:10.:56:20.

amount of ability. Marco's very tall and makes this horse look a bit

:56:21.:56:25.

smaller than she is, but she's massively powerful and scopy. Lovely

:56:26.:56:28.

control and balance as well there. Lucky at the last. But he goes

:56:29.:57:05.

through incident. -- goes through incidentally. Lovely round there.

:57:06.:57:10.

Just that little bit of luck at the last fence. Quite a few of them have

:57:11.:57:13.

found the horses pulling down the last line. It stayed up.

:57:14.:57:27.

Now Britain's leading lady, Laura Renwick, another great season, on

:57:28.:57:39.

Bintang II. Spends a lot of time on the continent. Been toe Portugal,

:57:40.:57:45.

Iberia. She's on 64 international classes this year and been in very

:57:46.:57:51.

good form -- bean to. This horse has looked sensational this week but

:57:52.:57:55.

doesn't always feature in the big classes, but one gets the impression

:57:56.:57:59.

Laura's looking more and more like an international rider than could be

:58:00.:58:03.

a great benefit to Di Lampard in her nation's cups. It's all about

:58:04.:58:15.

horsepower. Orlando mare, beautifully bred Dutch breeding and

:58:16.:58:20.

you would say this is a horse that's definitely going to be useful for

:58:21.:58:23.

the British teams over the next season or two.

:58:24.:58:34.

As we know with Laura, if she gets into the jumpoff, she's so fast and

:58:35.:58:42.

brilliant against the clockth clock. It would be brilliant to see her in

:58:43.:58:52.

the next round. Fantastic round. She's through. She's maintaining the

:58:53.:58:58.

form and that's good to see. Another for Britain.

:58:59.:59:13.

So, 13 clears already into the jump-off which is what we had last

:59:14.:59:20.

year and still one or two to go. Brilliant round there from Laura

:59:21.:59:25.

Renwick with her young nine-year-old, really looking every

:59:26.:59:31.

inch top Grand Prix horse. Certainly. Robert Whitaker will be

:59:32.:59:37.

disappointed. I've seen happier faces. Can't blame him. It's what it

:59:38.:59:44.

means to people. Here is another one who's been showing cracking good

:59:45.:59:49.

form, both here at this show and elsewhere in Europe, was second in a

:59:50.:59:56.

very strong Grand Prix in Deportivo La Coruna in Spain ten days ago.

:59:57.:00:17.

A fascinating rider to watch because he rides with short stirrups and

:00:18.:00:24.

long reins and if you watch him over the fence, he looks as though he's

:00:25.:00:28.

leaning back and hanging on but he has his own style and is a very

:00:29.:00:34.

effective rider. He's another rider that really loves a gallop against

:00:35.:00:35.

the clock. man, Just leaning back to get the

:00:36.:01:00.

balance. He could be a real danger. He has got a good draw and Germany

:01:01.:01:12.

looking strong. This contender mare, she has got fabulous ability, stays

:01:13.:01:18.

careful, makes a good shape all of the way and as Mike said could be a

:01:19.:01:25.

danger in the jump off. Now they will have the draw and they know

:01:26.:01:29.

what they have got to beat when they get in the ring. All the stars are

:01:30.:01:37.

out at play. Because here is the Olympic champion of 2012, the great

:01:38.:01:44.

Steve Guerdat from Switzerland. He won the big Grand Prix in Geneva

:01:45.:01:50.

just a week ago with his Olympic horse. But he has brought here

:01:51.:02:02.

another good course -- good horse, Corbinian. He has some good

:02:03.:02:08.

horsepower these days. Can he join the 14 others? If he can, he has a

:02:09.:02:20.

good draw. It shows the depth of horsepower they have. This

:02:21.:02:26.

nine-year-old will have an enormous amount of ability and look at and

:02:27.:02:31.

height down the combination. It is fabulous to watch. Well looking at

:02:32.:02:37.

the last four, after Steve Guerdat, you wouldn't be surprised frankly to

:02:38.:02:42.

have clear right across the board. They're that talented. We had a

:02:43.:02:48.

discussion today about how many clears and we all got it wrong. We

:02:49.:02:54.

didn't envisage so many. You're right.

:02:55.:03:04.

Just tips the last. But the lightest of tips and the Olympic champion is

:03:05.:03:15.

looking in great form. That was a lovely round. You must be delighted?

:03:16.:03:20.

Yes over the moon. He is only nine and this is his first time at

:03:21.:03:25.

Olympia and he has been double clear and only his second World Cup

:03:26.:03:28.

qualifier. Are you surprised how many clears we have had? Very. It

:03:29.:03:34.

walked... Like a proper World Cup qualifier should walk. It is quite

:03:35.:03:39.

tight. But they're jumping off the grund so well. There is some great

:03:40.:03:44.

horses and riders. You're pretty good in the jump off, you must fancy

:03:45.:03:50.

your chances Yes but he is not the most experienced. I will give it my

:03:51.:03:59.

best shot. Thank you. This man finished second last year. Very

:04:00.:04:18.

stylish, Daniel Deusser. He has won a World Cup final in Lyon in 2014.

:04:19.:04:25.

Very much part of the top German team. Another of these tall riders

:04:26.:04:37.

on a big horse with an enormous amount of power and ability. I think

:04:38.:04:48.

- just out the corner. We haven't seen a fault there for a while. But

:04:49.:04:55.

that was a proper mistake. Picking up on something Laura Renwick said,

:04:56.:04:59.

one of the reasons they're jumping so well is the fantastic ground

:05:00.:05:03.

here. They are pinging off this surface. That is a real credit to

:05:04.:05:11.

the show. There is no doubt that any show that has world class footing,

:05:12.:05:16.

you're going get better jumping. And this sur fafs is doing -- sur fafs

:05:17.:05:23.

is doing -- surface is doing its stuff. Germany will be a real

:05:24.:05:28.

danger. They won the World Cup here last year and they're lining up to

:05:29.:05:34.

do it again. One down for Daniel Deusser.

:05:35.:05:51.

Another from the Ludger Beerbaum Academy. He actually rides for

:05:52.:05:58.

Sweden. But he is the stable jockey for Ludger. Henrik Vonn Eckermann.

:05:59.:06:04.

He has played some part in the Swedish success. One remembers the

:06:05.:06:12.

bronze they won. This man, very important part of that bronze medal.

:06:13.:06:18.

He is riding a nine-year-old, Sansibar. Henrik has had a lot of

:06:19.:06:29.

success and moved up the rankings. It will be interesting to see how

:06:30.:06:35.

much longer Ludger goes on riding and whether he devotes more time to

:06:36.:06:42.

training. He is such a brilliant influence on all his pupils, because

:06:43.:06:45.

they all ride the same way as him. And they all win a lot. This is a

:06:46.:06:53.

difficult horse to control. Quite strong. Got all the ability. Henrik

:06:54.:06:59.

did well to hold it together through that double. This one is only nine

:07:00.:07:08.

as well. Fabulously scopy, but might get a bit tough down to the last

:07:09.:07:16.

fence. Well ridden. He is through. Oh no he has had the fence. One down

:07:17.:07:24.

going into the double. Some of the stars have had their problems,

:07:25.:07:28.

others have given us some good clear rounds. 15 of them at the moment.

:07:29.:07:33.

Yes it was a late falling pole. He just caught it. That was unlucky.

:07:34.:07:41.

Two left to go. There is Steve Guerdat look at the

:07:42.:07:58.

jump off course. Studying the form. Another of the youngsters that are

:07:59.:08:06.

really just flying to the top rankings. This is 20-year-old

:08:07.:08:16.

Bertram Allen. He had had a cracking season. Hofs One of the great

:08:17.:08:23.

thrills was to be on the winning Aga Khan team. There was a huge thrill

:08:24.:08:28.

to him. He has had some fantastic wins on this horse. Won the Grand

:08:29.:08:38.

Prix in Stockholm. Quite Easy a horse that Ben Maher rode. But now

:08:39.:08:51.

being ridden by Bertram Allen. We have spoken about Jessica Mendoza as

:08:52.:08:55.

an up and coming star, but this young man is still very young. His

:08:56.:09:01.

temperament is uncanny. He is so cool, so confident. If he carries on

:09:02.:09:08.

like this, he is going to be a world super star for many years. Giving

:09:09.:09:19.

this one a brilliant ride so far. Oh he squeaked the last. Ireland has

:09:20.:09:26.

got two. He joins Cian O'Connor, Bertram Allen and he will have a

:09:27.:09:31.

good draw. Just because he is only 20, you don't discount this young

:09:32.:09:38.

man. No right from day one he has had tremendous self-confidence and

:09:39.:09:42.

he is not afraid to take anyone on. Any situation, he is quick and calm.

:09:43.:09:52.

Britain so far has Williams, Maher, Scott Renwick through. Will they get

:09:53.:09:57.

one more. Will they get this man, Michael Whittaker, riding his wife's

:09:58.:10:03.

Viking. The horse he rode so brilliantly to help Britain win the

:10:04.:10:12.

gold medal in the Europeans of 2013. Now, he didn't ride this horse in

:10:13.:10:17.

Achen, but he was crucial in securing the fourth place that got

:10:18.:10:22.

Britain the qualification for Rio. He has been in good form this week.

:10:23.:10:30.

He has not great strength in Depp Nith real world classes, but this

:10:31.:10:35.

horse at his best can pull something special out of the bag. Earlier in

:10:36.:10:41.

the week, Viking jumped clear in a jump off class, but he elected not

:10:42.:10:48.

to jump off. He is obviously saving is Viking for this class. This is

:10:49.:10:53.

the one he wants to win. We have had three Whit kers and none in the jump

:10:54.:10:58.

off yet. That is quite a stat in itself. Will Michael vindicate his

:10:59.:11:09.

decision not to jump off by going clear and if he does go clear, as

:11:10.:11:13.

you say, he has got the draw. He is last in the jump off. Having a

:11:14.:11:25.

couple of rattles. He has got it! Ehas got it, he has got that good

:11:26.:11:31.

draw. Will he make the most of it? 17 clear rounds to go. It is going

:11:32.:11:35.

to be a Qlassic. Here are the 17 that have gone

:11:36.:11:52.

through. Here they are. All the way down the line there is some great

:11:53.:11:56.

competitors there. We have so much coming up from

:11:57.:12:24.

Olympia in the next couple of days. We will be talking with Tim about

:12:25.:12:29.

that in a moment. If you have been enjoying our action tonight, there

:12:30.:12:33.

is more tomorrow and the full performance and the Olympia Grand

:12:34.:12:38.

Prix. That is on the red button. Tomorrow morning at 11, you can see

:12:39.:12:43.

highlights of all of that. Tim, where to start. 17 clears. That is

:12:44.:12:51.

over half the field. I know. When we walked the course, we knew it was a

:12:52.:12:56.

big course and difficult. But the horses have jumped it well. No one

:12:57.:13:00.

is making it look easy. They're having to work. It wasn't a beauty

:13:01.:13:06.

pageant. But they were leaving the fences. It has taken a lot of guts.

:13:07.:13:12.

It will be a very difficult course for the jump-off. It was tricky to

:13:13.:13:17.

get into the rhythm what will we see? They will strip the course and

:13:18.:13:21.

there will be more open spaces. One and two is three and five and so you

:13:22.:13:27.

have a big long gallop and then a turn back and then a chance to drop

:13:28.:13:33.

a stride, very big parallel and then a gallop and it is then back to a

:13:34.:13:37.

turn to a double, taking a stride out maybe and then chancing your arm

:13:38.:13:41.

down the last line to try and see if you can win. I think that is going

:13:42.:13:47.

to play more into the riders that have the space and size of stride

:13:48.:13:52.

and can ride at speed. It will be tricky for the guys at the front and

:13:53.:13:57.

there could be 15 behind them. That is a very different approach. No, in

:13:58.:14:02.

a World Cup, there will be points at stake and you may see some riders

:14:03.:14:07.

opting to take a different approach and jump clear or maybe not take

:14:08.:14:11.

that silly risk and hope for a top four or five place to give them

:14:12.:14:15.

points for the final. So it will be intriguing. But Bertram Allen at the

:14:16.:14:20.

end, we were saying, there is no faster rider in a competition than

:14:21.:14:26.

Bertram and at the end it is hold on to your hats time. Andy can take us

:14:27.:14:34.

round the course. This is an amazing jump-off for speed. You can take

:14:35.:14:40.

strides out to an inviting oxer. The plank has been taken away. And you

:14:41.:14:47.

sweep left-handed back to this, what was an oxer and is now a vertical.

:14:48.:14:53.

Another gallop to an oxer. There is a long route all the way and who can

:14:54.:15:02.

dare to turn up to what was No 8? Then that light fence in the middle.

:15:03.:15:07.

This is the turn that will sort them out. Swinging into the oxer. Can

:15:08.:15:11.

they take a chance there? And look at that for a long gallop down to

:15:12.:15:15.

the last fence. It will be thrilling. We mentioned Bartram

:15:16.:15:25.

Allen and what a year he has had. He had moved to sixth in the world

:15:26.:15:31.

rankings. He is only 20 and he is a star.

:15:32.:15:40.

He's really used to winning and again, his DNA in the middle of it

:15:41.:15:47.

says win, so he's going to be close. Who else will you be looking out

:15:48.:15:52.

for? Ben Maher would be close in my book sg - ment thank you very much.

:15:53.:16:02.

We are certainly set for a classic. It's fasten the safety belts. Early

:16:03.:16:09.

riders, they have to just go for it. As we have spoke about a draw a lot,

:16:10.:16:13.

the early riders, if they want to get any money now, they've got to

:16:14.:16:16.

take every chance. They have, they have. It's a good mix of countries,

:16:17.:16:30.

that's for sure, Netherlands, Austria, Britain, Ireland, a real

:16:31.:16:35.

classic field and it's France's Olivier Robert to go first.

:16:36.:16:48.

We'll get an indication of what is going to happen. The fact is, poles

:16:49.:16:58.

could go flying. So often the big jawmp-offs, the first few overcook

:16:59.:17:01.

it and we have seen that time and again. It's a lot of pressure to be

:17:02.:17:12.

a trailblazer. This is what we wanted to see. He's

:17:13.:17:37.

not taking any chances. As we see so off none show jumping, that extra

:17:38.:17:41.

bit of pace, the horses lose the carefulness. This will give us a

:17:42.:17:48.

good idea of what the time can be. This is the crucial turn. Are they

:17:49.:17:51.

going to gamble around the corner? I think they can take strides out.

:17:52.:18:05.

You perhaps saw a glimpse of what might happen there with those two

:18:06.:18:07.

fences down for Olivier Robert. Big scopy mare throwing the font

:18:08.:18:22.

legs. Once the speed had taken over, you could see the jump flattened

:18:23.:18:25.

out. Here we go again taking the front rail there, too much pace and

:18:26.:18:34.

the shape of the jump had gone. It's given us some idea of the time. I

:18:35.:18:39.

think they might go a bit quicker. I agree. 36 even. That might be being

:18:40.:18:47.

a bit brave but we'll see. We'll see but this is a man that can go for

:18:48.:18:52.

it. Yes, Guy Williams loves a challenge against the clock. I

:18:53.:18:55.

wouldn't necessarily fancy this horse at its best going that fast

:18:56.:18:57.

but we'll see. Very experienced. He's really attacking. This is

:18:58.:19:20.

tight. This is what you expect from Guy Williams. Four across the middle

:19:21.:19:28.

and he's left it. Looked like it was coming down. Some challenge!

:19:29.:19:42.

Fantastic round, 37. .74 clear. Some performance. The interesting thing

:19:43.:19:48.

here is that there's 145,000 euros in the pot, 36,000 just a little

:19:49.:19:52.

more actually and he was after that. That was a brilliant effort. Titus

:19:53.:19:57.

has got so much stride and scope and he had that bit of luck. That's the

:19:58.:20:01.

one place where he went on full stride but look at the way he rode

:20:02.:20:05.

the last two fences. You would think he was riding the Grand National!

:20:06.:20:08.

Took a stride up, absolutely brilliant. Great to watch.

:20:09.:20:21.

Speeden with two to come. Peder FredericsonH M all in. You can

:20:22.:20:38.

take every chance in the book now after that round by Guy Williams,

:20:39.:20:42.

where he really didn't leave too much anywhere. This is a great

:20:43.:20:52.

start. Again, that pace is so hard to keep the horses carefully. Slow

:20:53.:20:57.

down a little bit. Guy Williams' round was really extraordinary and

:20:58.:21:01.

Titus indoors not the easiest and you see there, control, balance and

:21:02.:21:04.

rhythm. That kind of pace very difficult. Lost control totally.

:21:05.:21:16.

Somebody upstairs is looking after him because he hit that style hard

:21:17.:21:19.

and normally with the modern jumps it wouldn't stay up. But today it

:21:20.:21:24.

did. Guy's round's going to be tough to beat. Time allowed of 45 seconds

:21:25.:21:27.

so he's got time faults as well. A rueful smile there. He set off.

:21:28.:21:51.

He'd obviously seen what Guy Williams had done and thought OK,

:21:52.:21:56.

I'm going to try to do the same. He's completely overcooked it.

:21:57.:22:00.

Completely lost his balance and it happens.

:22:01.:22:16.

Now it's Austria's Max Kuhner. He wasn't getting the chances at

:22:17.:22:23.

international level that he thought he could.

:22:24.:22:32.

That's why he moved to Austria. It's been a good move. He's quite

:22:33.:22:37.

capable. Not sure he's going to get a lot of qualifying points in this

:22:38.:22:40.

Western European League this afternoon. But he is quite capable.

:22:41.:22:54.

Always interesting seeing what tactics they go for. Guy's time was

:22:55.:22:58.

so fast, you can see that he's just trying to jump the clear round, and

:22:59.:23:10.

if he jumps the last he's got a bit slower. That's clear and he now goes

:23:11.:23:21.

in behind Guy Williams with four gone. A good tactical move. Plenty

:23:22.:23:32.

of prize money down the line, plenty of points to be won. A good tactical

:23:33.:23:36.

round into second place. This man has a very good eye for a

:23:37.:23:45.

show jumper. He's picked up a lot of very good horses and taken them on

:23:46.:23:56.

to be international stars. He thinks a bit of this horse and he'll test

:23:57.:24:03.

it this afternoon. Lovely careful jumper.

:24:04.:24:03.

Certainly turning untight here. Got a bit of work to do to catch him but

:24:04.:24:28.

he's having a go. Good effort. Certainly was. Certainly was! 38.51.

:24:29.:24:37.

He nips in behind Guy Williams in second place in these early stages.

:24:38.:24:42.

Super Sox is a lovely young jumper. That was a good round. It again

:24:43.:24:50.

underrhines just how fast Titus and Guy Williams went. Nearly a second

:24:51.:24:54.

behind and he took all the options, he was trying to keep moving, but

:24:55.:24:58.

spent a little more time in the air as well. Interesting to see whether

:24:59.:25:10.

Bertram Allen can beat that time. He'll save every inch of the ground.

:25:11.:25:17.

Well, off now, goes the second challenge from Sweden, the very

:25:18.:25:27.

talented Malin Baryard-Johnsson. Tornesch. Not sure this is the

:25:28.:25:32.

fastest. A lot of galloping here the way guy did this, in fact. Malin's a

:25:33.:25:38.

naturally forward rider. She's gone just a touch wider here, she's going

:25:39.:25:41.

to have to pike up some time after that turn. -- pick up some time

:25:42.:25:47.

after that turn. Such a lovely smooth jump. That's the one guy was

:25:48.:25:51.

lucky at. Didn't have any luck there. Guy Williams has really set

:25:52.:26:07.

some target. This is fascinating. 39.85. Malin Baryard-Johnsson.

:26:08.:26:19.

Lovely and neat here, but just watch the forward strides into that

:26:20.:26:26.

vertical. A very, very light narrow, little fence, attacking on the four

:26:27.:26:29.

strides and then the last fence as well.

:26:30.:26:34.

The thing is, as so often is the case, if you are able and have the

:26:35.:26:38.

little bit of luck that Guy has and have a quick round, it has the rest

:26:39.:26:41.

going and it's difficult to get ahead. What are they supposed to do,

:26:42.:26:48.

you have got to try and beat them. So, this love hi mare bred by the

:26:49.:26:52.

Edgars, I bet they are jumping up and down.

:26:53.:27:02.

Diva II ridden by Ben Maher. Such a key member to Britain's defence of

:27:03.:27:07.

that Olympic title in Rio next year. And this mare could be an important

:27:08.:27:10.

part of that partnership. The target of Guy Williams' to beat

:27:11.:27:32.

with Titus. One to two is eight strides. Nothing

:27:33.:27:36.

they can do to change that. But it's a turn back to the second last and

:27:37.:27:40.

then taking the stride out to the last that's key.

:27:41.:27:46.

30 seconds gone. Not too far away. No, he is not. He is not. It's going

:27:47.:28:02.

to be very close. Oh, he's done it. He has! He has! Wow. 37. 15. So,

:28:03.:28:19.

half a second. Wow. Fantastic efforts there from Ben. This mare

:28:20.:28:23.

love this is arena, Ben just slightly shaved off a little bit

:28:24.:28:26.

down to the second last. Had a brilliant turn into the double. Rode

:28:27.:28:31.

his luck, as did Guy Williams, and again here. And this was the turn

:28:32.:28:37.

into the second last and then just kept motoring. Look at that down to

:28:38.:28:45.

the last fence. Using the power and scope, this mare really does have a

:28:46.:28:50.

big engine. She does. Now Scott Brash has got a big task on his

:28:51.:29:01.

hands now, the world number one. Hello M' Lady. To win it, he's got

:29:02.:29:06.

to go flat out. This is a mare with a future, one wonders is it right to

:29:07.:29:11.

go flat out as a nine-year-old? Don't doubt it for one second. Had a

:29:12.:29:14.

skip and a buck there, which didn't help. He's on the pace. This mare

:29:15.:29:24.

with fabulous athletic ability and a big stride. Really taking a chance.

:29:25.:29:32.

She was super careful in the double. Here's the turn.

:29:33.:29:39.

Still got a bit to do. Quite close but I don't think he's quite going

:29:40.:29:47.

to get there. He's into second place, isn't he? No, third. Yes,

:29:48.:29:56.

second it is! Second it is. One thing's for sure, we are all getting

:29:57.:30:02.

our money's worth. This is the most extraordinary jump-off. Scott Brash

:30:03.:30:08.

and Ben Meyer going head-to-head, fractions of the second in it. I

:30:09.:30:14.

think if you just watch him down to the last, a little steady, and

:30:15.:30:29.

that's what cost him. So it is Maher and Williams that are one, two

:30:30.:30:34.

three. Will they get the rest of the international stars going? Who will

:30:35.:30:47.

get amongst them? Will this man. Will the Netherlands' Jur Vreiling

:30:48.:30:51.

be able to push the scores of British riders. This horse is such a

:30:52.:30:59.

deliberate mover, it is hard. He has to give it his best shot. He is a

:31:00.:31:06.

very strong lad. You can see there he has got a bit cold off the leg.

:31:07.:31:12.

This horse doesn't enjoy this type of galloping and whizzing around

:31:13.:31:17.

corners. He is a clear round jumper in a big ring. Four penalties for

:31:18.:31:24.

that refusal. Four on the board. He will also have a slow time. He won a

:31:25.:31:29.

class earlier in the week and got unshipped in the presentation of

:31:30.:31:33.

awards and the horse ga lopped around and it went viral on YouTube,

:31:34.:31:39.

he has been having so much stick about it. But there he is. He has

:31:40.:31:47.

got 12 penalties. The man we thought would be a strong Dutch challenge

:31:48.:31:52.

goes down the leaderboard at the moment into eighth. He is a fabulous

:31:53.:32:00.

jumper, but he is suited to the big outdoor arena. Around that corner he

:32:01.:32:04.

didn't fancy that and he switched off. We are just over half way

:32:05.:32:22.

through. And we have got now Marcus Ehning. Marcus Ehning, one could

:32:23.:32:31.

argue his smooth apreach with that free-flowing movement might be

:32:32.:32:35.

suited. I hope so! The only thing I would say he is very much a

:32:36.:32:39.

fast-moving blood type of horse that can eat up the ground. Marcus

:32:40.:32:47.

Ehning. He is not quite on the pace. Good

:32:48.:33:01.

turn. That was a little quicker. Ooh!

:33:02.:33:23.

Wonderful leap over that. This is the turn that Ben was so brilliant

:33:24.:33:27.

and he is a long way off and he has paid for it. Tried to sweep around

:33:28.:33:31.

the corner without ticking a -- taking a pull, but it was a very

:33:32.:33:35.

fast time. Would have gone into the lead. But one fence down. That is

:33:36.:33:40.

the interesting bit, the time is beatable. Whether it is beatable and

:33:41.:33:46.

leaving the fences up of course is the big question. Well my tip for

:33:47.:33:52.

the day very close. Not good enough, Austin! Here is the turn. Brilliant

:33:53.:33:58.

turn there, but he swung into the second last and ended up a bit too

:33:59.:34:05.

far off. There he was, tried to pick up on the stride early. It wasn't

:34:06.:34:07.

quite the one he wanted. The show has seen some wonderful

:34:08.:34:23.

sport. And we have the Grand Prix still to come tomorrow. And now

:34:24.:34:33.

Italy Emmanuel Gaudiano. Whether the word you used was blood, whether

:34:34.:34:39.

this horse has got the speed, the thoroughbred bloodlines that brings

:34:40.:34:42.

the speed, whether this horse has quite got that. He has got a ride

:34:43.:34:49.

hear the will give it 110%. No doubt about that. Still the leading time

:34:50.:35:00.

Ben Maher. He is fearless against the clock this man. He rides every

:35:01.:35:10.

stride. J zh And he got a very good turn around the corner. He is not so

:35:11.:35:17.

far away. This is very definitely in touch. If he is going to take a

:35:18.:35:21.

stride out to the last he is going for it. Got it! He has got it! He

:35:22.:35:34.

has got it. Wow! That is some ride. This boy is amazing. He is fearless.

:35:35.:35:41.

That was a fantastic round. He rode every stride and round the corner, I

:35:42.:35:47.

mean to have an eye that accurate to gallop round that corner so smooth

:35:48.:35:50.

and this horse doesn't have all the scope. He couldn't afford to take a

:35:51.:35:55.

pull anywhere. And look at him ride to the last fence. This jump off is

:35:56.:36:09.

nibble. That was - this jump off is incredible. We have jumped 11 of the

:36:10.:36:28.

17. Six to go. Now in comes last year's winner, Marco Kutscher.

:36:29.:36:44.

With Chaccorina. There is just a second and a half between the top

:36:45.:36:48.

four. There is not a lot in it. What can Marco Kutscher pull out of

:36:49.:37:05.

the hat to make it two on the trot? Well you did say they were going to

:37:06.:37:09.

get to 36 seconds, Mike, you have called that one right as well. So

:37:10.:37:11.

you're on fire today! To win this class they're going to

:37:12.:37:28.

have to get into 35 seconds, or very close. That will take some doing.

:37:29.:37:34.

Youngish horse, jumping beautifully, but a long way off the pace. Good

:37:35.:37:39.

tactics on a young horse at this stage. 40.64. That goes into

:37:40.:37:47.

seventh. Five left to go. Two of them for

:37:48.:38:09.

Great Britain. A lovely round from Marco, but he surrendered as far as

:38:10.:38:13.

the clock goes and thought he would just give his horse a nice trip

:38:14.:38:22.

around. I don't think the next one will have a trot around. She will

:38:23.:38:28.

give it everything she has. It is of course Laura Renwick. Riding this

:38:29.:38:46.

nine-year-old, still only nine. It has got stronger, Bintang 11. Can

:38:47.:38:57.

this lady pull it off? It would be a fantastic achievement if it was at

:38:58.:38:58.

all possible. She is using his big stride. Long

:38:59.:39:25.

way off the double. And that was a very difficult for him to shorten up

:39:26.:39:29.

coming out. Took the option to sweep around the corner. When the horses

:39:30.:39:36.

that are full going to the double. Good effort from Laura.

:39:37.:39:48.

At the moment, puts Laura Renwick down to ninth. Here is the turn,

:39:49.:39:57.

round the corner, ended up a long way off. Got a big, flat jump in and

:39:58.:40:01.

possible to jump out. Four left to go. Germany,

:40:02.:40:21.

Switzerland, Ireland, Britain. What an exciting World Cup this is at

:40:22.:40:32.

Olympia. Dreher, my gut feeling is he will give this a big crack. He

:40:33.:40:37.

loves the challenge against the clock. He is cool and easy, an

:40:38.:40:46.

11-year-old. Dreher only has two speeds in the jump off. He has fast

:40:47.:40:51.

and even faster! He has a big striding horse. Ooh and he tried to

:40:52.:40:59.

sweep around the corner. These riders under so much pressure. Ended

:41:00.:41:03.

up getting one extra stride. So looks like he is going to surrender.

:41:04.:41:11.

Just going and school around. With so many fast, clear rounds, icht is

:41:12.:41:15.

a tough call to know what to do. Even if you want to get in the top

:41:16.:41:21.

four you have got to go like crazy. Jumps that narrow parallel down to

:41:22.:41:26.

the last. And the last. So he finishes on 4. So that is going to

:41:27.:41:37.

put him now into ninth. Laura Renwick down into 10th. Laura has

:41:38.:41:42.

done well to get into the jump-off in this sort of company. But it is

:41:43.:41:50.

pretty tough. Tried to keep moving around the corner. It is so

:41:51.:41:54.

difficult to see your stride before you have turned up to the fence. But

:41:55.:41:56.

that what is they're up against. Three big names to come. The Olympic

:41:57.:42:19.

champion the first of them. Steve Guerdat with that Corbinian. One of

:42:20.:42:24.

several we have had in the class by this very good grey horse.

:42:25.:42:30.

Another nine-year-old. Will he put his foot to the floor?

:42:31.:42:54.

Me has taken the chance. Jumped across opt angle. -- ant angle. He

:42:55.:43:04.

might be a young horse, but he is not holding back. Brilliant turn

:43:05.:43:10.

into that double. It needs to be turning around 30 seconds. Oh and he

:43:11.:43:17.

is in lots of trouble. The horses get a bit unsighted. It shocks them,

:43:18.:43:22.

that fence off the corner. Just that bit of inexperience. Just a bit too

:43:23.:43:32.

much for this young mare. In fact he just judged it wrong and turned too

:43:33.:43:38.

tight and he was facing the wing. He ended up too much over to the left.

:43:39.:43:43.

But it was a great effort. It is a tough call for the young horses

:43:44.:43:47.

around this corner. They see it so late and you can could see she

:43:48.:43:52.

didn't know where she was going. He sorry. Didn't know where he was

:43:53.:43:55.

going. Horrible moment for Steve there. He managed to stay on. Rode

:43:56.:44:03.

the last fence with no Stirrup. We are down to the last two for the

:44:04.:44:17.

2015 World Cup here at London Olympia's grand hall. 20 years old.

:44:18.:44:23.

He has not been daunted by any big jump-offs in the past. And this

:44:24.:44:31.

horse Quiet Easy, wouldn't be regarded as one of best horses

:44:32.:44:36.

against the clock. But this man has got so much out of this horse. He

:44:37.:44:38.

will give it a go. Brilliant turn. Saw his stride

:44:39.:44:50.

around the corner. Shoulders dropped and he attacks all the way. Did

:44:51.:44:58.

everything right. Just didn't have the jump. So this young man, we knew

:44:59.:45:03.

he would give it a go. Just couldn't hold it together. Not his day. But

:45:04.:45:11.

we will hear of him in the classics in the future. No doubt. He has got

:45:12.:45:20.

to be such good news for Ireland. This guy is a rider for the future

:45:21.:45:35.

to watch and he again fearless there, didn't quite happen for him

:45:36.:45:41.

but we can be entertained by him for many, many years to come. At the

:45:42.:45:47.

moment, the Olympia World Cup qualifier is set to go to Italy.

:45:48.:45:56.

Italy's Emanuele Gaudiano, and there's one to go. A man who's been

:45:57.:46:01.

at the sharp end of the British sport for many years, he'd love to

:46:02.:46:06.

do it. Is this horse and Michael capable? On their day, it Cowan.

:46:07.:46:14.

Could be -- could be and the crowd will love it. Michael riding Viking.

:46:15.:46:21.

The horse that he produced so brilliantly. This is here and now in

:46:22.:46:31.

the Grand Hall in Olympia. Michael trying to settle Viking. A

:46:32.:46:45.

sharp, intense horse. Lovely smooth eight strides. Got

:46:46.:47:07.

close to the vertical and he's had to add an extra stride. He really

:47:08.:47:11.

needs to motor now around this corner. Viking has about 9,#50e 0

:47:12.:47:26.

jockeys with Michael at the moment. Now he's got to gap to believe last

:47:27.:47:31.

fence. Come on, Michael. 36.2! So close. Great effort. Great effort.

:47:32.:47:43.

Third place. 37. 28. Fabulous effort from Michael. He couldn't quite get

:47:44.:47:48.

the rhythm he wanted. Just had one or possibly two strides around the

:47:49.:47:51.

course more than he wanted. But into third place. Always hard on himself

:47:52.:48:01.

but gambled down to the last fence. All a bit too late because he just

:48:02.:48:06.

had one extra back down to the vertical early on. Brilliant third

:48:07.:48:13.

place for Michael Whitaker. There is the very happy Emanuele Gaudiano. He

:48:14.:48:17.

would have started at, not the quite long odds I would think, but what a

:48:18.:48:21.

competition, one of the best we've seen. And there is confirmation that

:48:22.:48:29.

Italy wins it. Emanuele Gaudiano. Then a very good second for Ben

:48:30.:48:36.

Maher, Michael Whitaker, Scot Brash then Guy Williams fifth. A tight

:48:37.:48:40.

block of riders there. Some of the big names down the line were here,

:48:41.:48:46.

Laura Renwick did well to finish 12th.

:48:47.:48:52.

There is the last page. It was a very good field. Always

:48:53.:48:58.

pretty open. But it was an absolute classic.

:48:59.:49:04.

Tremendous stuff. Well, this capacity crowd have enjoyed just

:49:05.:49:11.

scintillating show jumping. I'm delighted to say that the winner,

:49:12.:49:16.

Emanuele Gaudiano, has joined us. Congratulations, what a fantastic

:49:17.:49:21.

jump-off round you put in? Yes, my horse jumped very well. There was a

:49:22.:49:28.

lot to do in the first round and I say, OK, to win, I have to go very,

:49:29.:49:33.

very fast. And I did. You certainly did. Talk us round your jump-off?

:49:34.:49:43.

OK, I started for me, eight very long because my horse doesn't have a

:49:44.:49:48.

big canter but he's very careful. Then I started very fast. I

:49:49.:49:55.

continued. Number two was a bit bigger.

:49:56.:50:08.

I think here, first distance for the combination. There was a bit of a

:50:09.:50:23.

dip there. I didn't want to risk it. I won. It was a very strange

:50:24.:50:33.

competition today wasn't it, to have so many clears coming from that

:50:34.:50:36.

first round and then into the jump-off. You really had to try and

:50:37.:50:45.

make your own. Yes, OK, we have very good horse here, one of the most

:50:46.:50:49.

nice showing in the season and yes, I think a lot of riders think the

:50:50.:50:59.

good horse here. Yes, it was not very, very big because the ring is

:51:00.:51:05.

not too big for it but I find it very nice round, not too difficult

:51:06.:51:10.

for the horses, it's very nice. Congratulations and thank you for

:51:11.:51:13.

coming to talk to us. You've got to go and get your presentation, we'll

:51:14.:51:16.

release you, you can go and walk off, don't worry. Thank you.

:51:17.:51:20.

He's had a really strong show, because of course he won a class on

:51:21.:51:25.

Thursday as well on a different horse, he'll be going back

:51:26.:51:31.

delighted? And last weekend was leading rider in Geneva. He's on top

:51:32.:51:35.

form at the moment. Talk about commitment in his jump-off round. We

:51:36.:51:39.

always say when teaching people to ride, you have to sell it to your

:51:40.:51:42.

horse. He's won salesman of the year, he sold everything, hook, line

:51:43.:51:46.

and sinker. Totally committed. What a fantastic result for the Brits as

:51:47.:51:50.

well, four Brits in the top five? The Brits have had a good day today,

:51:51.:51:58.

you know. Strange competition, 17 clears in the first round so you

:51:59.:52:02.

knew then that the jump-off was going to be slightly different to

:52:03.:52:06.

normal, wasn't going to be too much tactical. When Guy did his round, I

:52:07.:52:14.

knew he wasn't going to do it. To end up fourth, goes to show how much

:52:15.:52:20.

faster they were. Ben Haher's round, you saw it and thought there was a

:52:21.:52:23.

bit more to come? That's right. Again, we are talking about three to

:52:24.:52:28.

five. Eight strides is the normal, Ben gets there easy and relaxed.

:52:29.:52:37.

Then he makes a nice stay. Five across the line. Dropped a stride.

:52:38.:52:44.

Look at the turn here, falling inside.

:52:45.:52:51.

Ben's really on top of his day here. Seven or eight there. I think Ben

:52:52.:53:01.

hopes to two for the seven strides there and you saw him finish. Great

:53:02.:53:07.

round. Fabulous. He showed us all how to do it properly. Interesting

:53:08.:53:13.

to have 17 clear into the jump-off and then to see some big names

:53:14.:53:17.

making mistakes but they had to try to do something to give them an edge

:53:18.:53:22.

to get into the placings. You had to do something to be a fraction

:53:23.:53:27.

closer. The problem was that it was really all about speed in the

:53:28.:53:31.

jump-off. You saw one or two riders with the horse going as fast as they

:53:32.:53:35.

could go, they were not technically fast enough to be in the first two

:53:36.:53:38.

or thee which is a bit of a shame. Normally the World Cups are a bit

:53:39.:53:42.

more about jumping ability than speed. That was a fascinating

:53:43.:53:49.

competition. The presentation is just starting. You can see the

:53:50.:53:54.

riders. Cian O'Connor is making his way into the arena in front of an

:53:55.:53:58.

absolutely packed out crowd. This is a moment where horses can get a

:53:59.:54:03.

little excited. We saw a spill from a rider on Friday night who'd gone

:54:04.:54:09.

in to collect his trophy and it went a bit wrong as the crowd got whipped

:54:10.:54:15.

up into a frenzy. Scott Brash is taking the plaudits. I know that you

:54:16.:54:19.

were talking about Michael Whitaker towards the end. Couldn't quite do

:54:20.:54:29.

it. Put in a fabulous try. A bit of a break. Ben for me was the class

:54:30.:54:41.

round of the jump-off. Full marks. Fully committed, brilliant. Emanuele

:54:42.:54:48.

Gaudiano's had a really strong show, won a class on Thursday, he's been

:54:49.:54:54.

there or thereabouts, he's one of these riders who comes over and

:54:55.:54:58.

absolutely enters just about every class. Andy Austin is here, what did

:54:59.:55:03.

you make of Emanuele Gaudiano today? I've watched him a lot and the one

:55:04.:55:07.

thing about this guy, when he goes in the ring, he wants to win. He

:55:08.:55:11.

rides every jump-off flat out lake he did today. And the horse that

:55:12.:55:15.

he's riding is not the most scopy horse. But he gets every ounce out

:55:16.:55:21.

of his horse and he totally believes he can win every class he goes in.

:55:22.:55:26.

That's his only way of operating. When he went round the corners, he

:55:27.:55:30.

didn't just sit, he said, you will take a bigger stride, you will win

:55:31.:55:36.

this class for me and I think he shows that incredible winning

:55:37.:55:39.

mentality which real champions have got and he's been doing that a lot

:55:40.:55:48.

recently. Emanuele Gaudiano moves his horse forward and we'll be

:55:49.:55:51.

hearing the National Anthem of Italy.

:55:52.:56:52.

Fantastic National Anthem and great to see Emanuele Gaudiano taking the

:56:53.:56:59.

plaudits now. I let a stick of dynamite earlier on when I asked

:57:00.:57:02.

these gentlemen about their Olympic teams. Let's start with Andy. Who

:57:03.:57:07.

would you have in your British Olympic team? Scott Brash, Ben Mahey

:57:08.:57:17.

Jess Mendoza. Clear cut decision? To me, clear argument. Tim, any

:57:18.:57:21.

argument? A few, yes, definitely because I've got a feeling there'll

:57:22.:57:25.

be one or two others vying for position. I think you've got

:57:26.:57:31.

Skelton, Williams has gone really well tonight and I've got a horse I

:57:32.:57:37.

would like to be considered as well, so my mate decided there was not a

:57:38.:57:40.

chance. We are going to have a good solid base of riders to choose from

:57:41.:57:44.

and there's a lot can happen before the Olympic Games in Rio. I suppose

:57:45.:57:48.

that's a positive, it's all about strength in-depth and that's what

:57:49.:57:51.

Britain seems to have? Yes, it's great that guys like Tim Stockdale

:57:52.:57:57.

and Nick Skelton are still out there waiting to go, why can't they do it?

:57:58.:58:03.

Well in this sport they can and they can compete against 19-year-old

:58:04.:58:05.

riders. So much sport today on the BBC. We've got the Sports

:58:06.:58:10.

Personality of the Year, as we know, at 6. 50, and, as we mentioned, all

:58:11.:58:14.

the full performance from Olympia at 6. 50, and, as we mentioned, all

:58:15.:58:20.

Prix. 6. 45 for that and we'll bring you the highlights on Wednesday at

:58:21.:58:25.

11 o'clock. What a competition we've had. It's been fast and it's been

:58:26.:58:30.

furious and I hope you enjoyed it as much as we have. Thank you very much

:58:31.:58:32.

for your company today. Bye-bye.

:58:33.:58:34.
