Hello and welcome to the World Gymnastics Championships from

:00:00.:00:59.

Glasgow's Hydro arena. What we are about to see is the most incredible

:01:00.:01:04.

display of physical ability, crowds have gathered here from all over the

:01:05.:01:08.

world. For the first day of finals, the best on the planet are here,

:01:09.:01:10.

prepare to be amazed. That is absolutely phenomenal. Full

:01:11.:01:35.

of energy, full of body movement, is literally doesn't stop.

:01:36.:01:38.

That's a quadruple twist, absolutely nailed.

:01:39.:01:50.

He made all the terms, all the control. Great showman of

:01:51.:02:07.

gymnastics. So easy, so powerful. Fantastic, he could not have done

:02:08.:02:13.

that better. That is the performance of a champion.

:02:14.:02:18.

They are here and so are we. Sitting alongside me to enjoy a wonderful

:02:19.:02:24.

week of competition is multiple world medallist Beth Tweddle and

:02:25.:02:28.

all-around silver-medallist Dan Keating 's. Welcome. Performing in

:02:29.:02:34.

front of a home crowd, this is the second time in ten years that Great

:02:35.:02:37.

Britain have held the World Championships. The last time you

:02:38.:02:42.

both got medals. A wonderful performance from yourself and the

:02:43.:02:45.

crowd at home doesn't make a difference doesn't it? My best

:02:46.:02:49.

results have been in front of a home crowd, silver medal at the World

:02:50.:02:54.

Championships in the O2 Arena and Birmingham, 2010, European gold, it

:02:55.:02:58.

makes you lift your game and it can help them do it here. You have a

:02:59.:03:02.

World Championship title, 2009, London. Pretty special for any

:03:03.:03:08.

gymnast to walk into this kind of arena but a home crowd, as soon as

:03:09.:03:12.

you step up, the noise is unbelievable. It gives you a buzz

:03:13.:03:16.

and that is one thing I miss about competing. Still time, Beth. You

:03:17.:03:23.

never know what can happen. Let's have a look at the schedule and see

:03:24.:03:26.

if we can slip you in. LAUGHTER As we go forward:

:03:27.:03:32.

tomorrow is the men's team final. Top 24 gymnasts from qualification

:03:33.:03:41.

on Thursday. The same on Friday for the men. Individual apparatus finals

:03:42.:03:50.

on Saturday and Sunday. A quick word on gymnasts you are looking forward

:03:51.:03:55.

to? The British team. International stage, Simone Biles is the talking

:03:56.:03:58.

point, she is going for a hat-trick in the all-around. She also has her

:03:59.:04:04.

team-mate, Gabby Douglas. She semi-retired after London 2012. She

:04:05.:04:09.

has made a comeback but she will have to do a lot to beat Simone

:04:10.:04:15.

Biles, every skill she performs is to perfection. You can see her with

:04:16.:04:18.

her world medal last year and she will not go down lightly without a

:04:19.:04:23.

world title this year. Gabby Douglas, back from almost

:04:24.:04:27.

retirement, here. It was a strange one. She took time out after London

:04:28.:04:32.

to make a decision. She obviously felt she had more to do in the

:04:33.:04:35.

sport, she has come back. She will have to do a lot to beat Simone. She

:04:36.:04:41.

is in a league of her own in this competition. We are concentrating on

:04:42.:04:44.

women's gymnastics tonight, it is lovely to have you with us, though,

:04:45.:04:49.

Dan. Who are the gymnasts you are looking forward to seeing? It is

:04:50.:04:55.

fair to say that he is the best gymnast of all time, male gymnast.

:04:56.:05:00.

He is going for his sixth male title -- world title, looking forward to

:05:01.:05:06.

seeing him. A compatriot of his, the wonderful twisting gymnast on the

:05:07.:05:14.

floor. Kenzo he has around 22 twists in his routine. When I was doing

:05:15.:05:18.

floor routines I only had about ten. 22! Even from a world floor

:05:19.:06:50.

The once mighty Romania in Duarte a new low. Now the Olympic hopes are

:06:51.:07:09.

pinned on the test event, no such problems 14 USA, they powered

:07:10.:07:12.

through in first place, by some distance. -- for team USA. She

:07:13.:07:18.

showed why she is the favourite for her third all-round world title. It

:07:19.:07:23.

would be breaking history, and if I can do that, that will be cooler.

:07:24.:07:28.

There is a challenge from close to home, Gabrielle Douglas, back in the

:07:29.:07:34.

game, after a 2 one half year wait. STUDIO: We can put that into

:07:35.:07:42.

context, we have the USA, the highs qualifiers by a long shot, and then

:07:43.:07:47.

Russia and Great in third. The Netherlands, the first time they

:07:48.:07:51.

have qualified for the Olympics since 1976. In qualification they

:07:52.:07:55.

were clean and tidy and they did not have took out any falls. You should

:07:56.:08:02.

have seen the excitement on their faces, there was any -- hardly any

:08:03.:08:11.

margin, but there was great relief on their face. It was great for them

:08:12.:08:16.

to have the qualification use, now they can just enjoy this team final.

:08:17.:08:19.

Yes, that was the focus coming into they can just enjoy this team final.

:08:20.:08:24.

you are walking away with nine months leading into Rio, not having

:08:25.:08:28.

to go to the test event, that takes the pressure off and now they can go

:08:29.:08:34.

and enjoy tonight. They qualified in third, but the pressure is not

:08:35.:08:39.

really on them. Exactly. China have got a lot to prove, coming behind

:08:40.:08:43.

Great Britain, but going back to that graphic. What a shock to see

:08:44.:08:47.

remaining, they have got to go for the Rio test event -- to see

:08:48.:08:55.

Romania. That is hard to do. It is, very hard, when we did not make it,

:08:56.:09:01.

we really wanted that spot, so we could prepare for London 2012, but

:09:02.:09:09.

not having done that, we had to miss Christmas and New Year and go

:09:10.:09:11.

straight into the competition and there was not much time at all. The

:09:12.:09:15.

shock that went around this place, to watch Romania crumble and not

:09:16.:09:21.

make the top eight, almost unheard of. It was a shock, they were in the

:09:22.:09:26.

First Division, and they had a nightmare, there were falls, and

:09:27.:09:29.

they were very unlucky with injuries, and they lost one of their

:09:30.:09:35.

best just beforehand, and then they lost another one. It was a

:09:36.:09:39.

disappointment for them, but I'm sure they will come back fighting.

:09:40.:09:43.

They will come back in April, ready to go to Rio. Great Britain had a

:09:44.:09:49.

storming qualification and they made many individual apparatus finals, as

:09:50.:09:52.

well, and so we can give you confirmation. Amy Tinkler is

:09:53.:09:59.

alongside Ruby Harrold, who has two finals.

:10:00.:10:10.

The best result that the great British women have had at the World

:10:11.:10:16.

Championships, from 18 perspective, that was your last event, in 2011,

:10:17.:10:19.

that was fifth-place -- from a team-macro perspective. Great

:10:20.:10:24.

Britain have qualified in third place, shall we meet the women who

:10:25.:10:28.

are hoping to do a first for Great Britain and get their hands on a

:10:29.:10:41.

world team medal. Feeling very excited, I cannot wait to get out

:10:42.:10:44.

there, we jumped so much together and we all love each other we have a

:10:45.:10:49.

good time together. Leading up to the Olympics next year is all about

:10:50.:10:54.

gaining experience. We know each other's routines and we know each

:10:55.:10:57.

other as people and so we can hopefully go out there and do the

:10:58.:11:03.

best we can. The start of the cycle is quite difficult, coming back from

:11:04.:11:08.

injury and by the end of 2013I was feeling quite down on myself, but

:11:09.:11:14.

now I'm really enjoying it. I never know what competition is going to be

:11:15.:11:17.

like, but I will try to use my knowledge and give that to the

:11:18.:11:21.

little ones. We are all very close, like a second family, really. Even

:11:22.:11:27.

at the beginning of the year, just moving into the senior competition

:11:28.:11:31.

they have all supported me, and kept me calm and told us what to expect,

:11:32.:11:38.

really. I'm quite confident going into the championships, because

:11:39.:11:40.

everything has been going good in training. If everything was up and

:11:41.:11:45.

down I would be more nervous, and obviously you will be nervous on the

:11:46.:11:49.

day, but until I get there, I'm just looking forward to the experience.

:11:50.:11:53.

She knows what she wants, she might be young, but she acts as if she is

:11:54.:11:58.

25. She will go out and give that her best shot, and I do not know

:11:59.:12:03.

what I'm like out in the world yet, so I got to go out there and give my

:12:04.:12:07.

best and see where I end up. I'd been training for so long and had so

:12:08.:12:11.

many trials, and so to be able to go out and compete, I'm really excited,

:12:12.:12:16.

and so I think we are all prepared. I would just like to go out and have

:12:17.:12:22.

a strong event. I never would have thought, that anything like this

:12:23.:12:26.

would have happened, it will be incredible, and I can't wait.

:12:27.:12:34.

STUDIO: As it stands, there has been 40 minutes of competition and we

:12:35.:12:37.

will bring you up-to-date with what has been going on. Plenty of

:12:38.:12:40.

gymnastics to go, we know the Americans, the current world

:12:41.:12:45.

champions, they are a long way ahead of the field Aspar as qualification

:12:46.:12:48.

is concerned, and so we are looking at second and third -- as far as

:12:49.:12:54.

qualification is concerned. China and Russia. The British, if we go

:12:55.:13:00.

clean, we could be in for a shout for third, but we will have to go

:13:01.:13:06.

clean on every single piece. Go on. I think the same, I would like to

:13:07.:13:10.

see Britain get the third medal, it is about going clean and then hoping

:13:11.:13:14.

the other countries make a mistake. We can now bring you up-to-date with

:13:15.:13:18.

what has been going on, we can give you an idea of who is starting

:13:19.:13:25.

where. USA and Russia and vault. -- on vault. Over two bars, Rebecca

:13:26.:13:35.

Downie, previous European champion, leading the way. China was second at

:13:36.:13:43.

last year's World Championships. The Italians and the Japanese are on the

:13:44.:13:52.

beams. Canada and the Netherlands, they are on floor. We will get

:13:53.:13:57.

straight into the action, with our commentary team.

:13:58.:14:08.

COMMENTATOR: Gabrielle Douglas, she leads off with this immensely

:14:09.:14:18.

powerful American same. The Olympic champion opens proceedings. The

:14:19.:14:24.

double twist. She is leading this team.

:14:25.:14:39.

We can see this again, just one vault for the girls in competition,

:14:40.:14:45.

and there was not much wrong with that, was there? It has got to start

:14:46.:15:00.

a score of 5.8. Her score, 15.233, a great score to begin. Ruby Harrold,

:15:01.:15:16.

from Great Britain, she is arm bars. -- on. Hugely important routine for

:15:17.:15:26.

Great Britain, the first one up, for turning, very complex, this is a

:15:27.:15:30.

difficult combination, the half-time, and straight back to the

:15:31.:15:35.

low bar, beautiful handstand. Immediately into the full pirouette,

:15:36.:15:40.

and then a shoot to the high bar, she does that calmly, and now the

:15:41.:15:45.

big release. Half term, and then she read grasped -- half turn. Up, two

:15:46.:15:53.

somersaults, beautiful landing, what a start for Great Britain. Great

:15:54.:16:01.

stuff of Great Britain, very confident performance. Ruby Harrold.

:16:02.:16:06.

Under control throughout that routine. Great start.

:16:07.:16:14.

Ruby Harrold. Good start. For the British team.

:16:15.:16:27.

Look at the power and approach. Two and a half twists. Such difficulty

:16:28.:16:37.

and so beautifully performed. Plenty of aggression and power.

:16:38.:16:44.

Look at this, she harnesses it through the round off, 2 one half

:16:45.:16:51.

twists, almost bang on centre. Forgive her that. Huge push.

:16:52.:16:59.

INTERFERENCE two and a half twists. World champion, Simone Biles. Look

:17:00.:17:22.

at that. Phenomenal vaulter. Look at the height and style and power.

:17:23.:17:40.

So very little to deduct. Massive height, massive length. Just a

:17:41.:17:49.

deduction for her little hop. The style, her legs locked together,

:17:50.:17:52.

right in the middle of the mat. Look at that score.

:17:53.:18:05.

too grief in the team qualification...

:18:06.:18:26.

too grief in the team shame she was rising up

:18:27.:18:31.

too grief in the team action. She is a powerful gymnast on

:18:32.:18:35.

the bars. You really feel for them when that happens. She has been a

:18:36.:18:40.

bit unsettled. She got over the problem area she had before. Full

:18:41.:18:47.

pirouette, very nicely done, straight down to the low bar. This

:18:48.:18:49.

is a big element as well. Half term. straight down to the low bar. This

:18:50.:18:56.

Up to the handstand. Smoothly swinging. Up into the double

:18:57.:19:01.

straight somersault. Beautiful finish. She recovered so well. She

:19:02.:19:08.

did. Next element mentality you could call that.

:19:09.:19:21.

You can see her hands didn't get over the bar, she was close enough.

:19:22.:19:29.

What might have been. The final gymnast for Great Britain,

:19:30.:19:36.

Rebecca Downie. That was a huge amount of

:19:37.:19:50.

difficulty. Lovely pirouette and she finishes in the handstand, such a

:19:51.:19:58.

stylus stylish control gymnast, the flight down to the lower bar. Back

:19:59.:20:07.

up to the high bar. Clean half term, just the dismount to go. Lift, full

:20:08.:20:11.

up to the high bar. Clean half term, twist and wonderful performance,

:20:12.:20:12.

great execution. landing on the floor, meeting it

:20:13.:20:27.

perfectly. Rebecca Downie's landing on the floor, meeting it

:20:28.:20:48.

14.833. You can see the team total at this stage.

:20:49.:20:56.

14.833. You can see the team total the Russian performers, Viktoriia

:20:57.:21:01.

Komovoa. Measured approach. The double twist. Clean in flight.

:21:02.:21:13.

Need to stay stretched as possible, and she just gets it down and that

:21:14.:21:25.

is a lovely vault. Huge push and then the double twist, and she

:21:26.:21:28.

controls the landing, eventually. Chunsong Shang now, from China, on

:21:29.:21:58.

bars. That is a big jump, she is a tiny gymnast, but she has got some

:21:59.:22:03.

big skills. Once to make the immediate impact. -- wants. The jump

:22:04.:22:12.

from the low, immediate, that is a lovely combination. The grip, and

:22:13.:22:18.

the full pirouette, leading off with the hand, another full pirouette,

:22:19.:22:26.

the half turn, just needs to concentrate hard. The full twisting

:22:27.:22:31.

back, very clean opening performance from China.

:22:32.:22:43.

Not a bad score. Maria Paseka for Russia, one of their star

:22:44.:22:56.

competitors. Plenty of power. This time with two and a half twists,

:22:57.:23:04.

strong, powerful, controlled. The level as you would expect, because

:23:05.:23:08.

Russia and the United States are very high indeed. Maria Paseka, two

:23:09.:23:18.

and a half twists. Powerful stuff, just look at the height, and the

:23:19.:23:22.

line, slightly crossed over, the legs. But she finds a way through

:23:23.:23:31.

beautifully. Two and a half twists. Building nicely.

:23:32.:23:48.

Ksenila Afanaseva, from Russia, what can she do? She has been vaulting

:23:49.:23:58.

really well, is she going to do so again? Very nice indeed, very good

:23:59.:24:02.

twists and control. The round of two twists and the

:24:03.:24:22.

little pace and landing. -- on landing. Not many deductions,

:24:23.:24:29.

beautiful down the line. Building nicely with that score. This Sony at

:24:30.:24:44.

a saver, from Russia. -- Ksenila Afanaseva. She has been vaulting,

:24:45.:24:52.

very well, what is she going to do this time? Very nice indeed. Good

:24:53.:24:55.

twists, and good control. The round of two twists, the little

:24:56.:25:13.

pace on landing. Not too many deductions. Beautifully down the

:25:14.:25:23.

line. All of the Russians in the 15th.

:25:24.:25:35.

Yilin Fan from China, she is the next gymnast and the bars. -- on.

:25:36.:25:47.

Beautiful peril -- pirouette and that was a good transfer to the

:25:48.:25:54.

higher bar. Very fluid. Lovely grace in those turns. The dismount, she

:25:55.:26:07.

was a bit unsettled in that routine. 15.266 is her score. An hour from

:26:08.:26:40.

Japan, Asuka Teramoto. Japan impressed greatly in the

:26:41.:26:48.

qualification competition. Very well controlled double Spain, one of the

:26:49.:26:53.

moves which has given the high difficulty rating -- double spin.

:26:54.:27:03.

Another move with great difficulty, the high turn onto the hands.

:27:04.:27:10.

Difficult, but well howled. Straight into the jump, that is where she

:27:11.:27:17.

gets a bonus -- well hold. Important to show good rhythm and the beam,

:27:18.:27:25.

long pauses are deducted, and that is where you get the deductions from

:27:26.:27:29.

the execution score, little bits from that. Changing the link to a

:27:30.:27:39.

cartwheel, she is light and smooth, those are the leaps every gene --

:27:40.:27:49.

gymnast must include. Setting herself up. The big round of for the

:27:50.:27:58.

big this map, triple twist, very well performs -- for the big this

:27:59.:28:09.

mount. Big challenge, Liverpool the beam.

:28:10.:28:14.

That is OK, she managed it well. And of course, when you have a wobble

:28:15.:28:35.

like that, you do lose marks. Asuka Teramoto with 13.9 on beams.

:28:36.:29:05.

Oh! Catching it a bit flat, but she has worked out of it very well,

:29:06.:29:15.

covered up, and watch the dismount, lovely double straight, great

:29:16.:29:19.

landing, very good performance from the Chinese team. The stuff of

:29:20.:29:26.

dreams, and landing like that, absolutely nailed. She winds up, it

:29:27.:29:36.

separates the swing, fast around the bar and then she can hold the lovely

:29:37.:29:38.

straight shape. would absolutely nailed their faults

:29:39.:30:05.

and stretch ahead of the rest of the world, which is exactly what they

:30:06.:30:10.

did. -- there vault fool. The battle is on between Russia and China.

:30:11.:30:14.

Ellie Downie will be competing on every single piece today. A

:30:15.:30:17.

difficult start but they have every single piece today. A

:30:18.:30:20.

close team, they will pick up their every single piece today. A

:30:21.:30:25.

numerous competitions, they every single piece today. A

:30:26.:30:29.

to overcome that mistake and get every single piece today. A

:30:30.:30:31.

ready for the beam. She has a rest, they will go second up on the next

:30:32.:30:35.

ready for the beam. She has a rest, piece of apparatus. Beam. It

:30:36.:30:38.

ready for the beam. She has a rest, them time. It is beam, jitters will

:30:39.:30:43.

be evident, no doubt, but this is a key piece for China. As far as Great

:30:44.:30:47.

Britain is concerned, two marks up on difficulty. Let's explain this

:30:48.:30:52.

difficulty and execution if we can, for new viewers, they do it quite

:30:53.:30:55.

understand what is happening with these scores. The more difficulty

:30:56.:31:00.

there is, the harder the routine, more room for mistakes. If you have

:31:01.:31:05.

a lower start, you have got to try and hit that routine perfectly with

:31:06.:31:07.

no wobbles to get a big and hit that routine perfectly with

:31:08.:31:11.

of the other countries have more room for error. If you're looking

:31:12.:31:17.

around a sixth start value, your whole routine is marked out of 16

:31:18.:31:22.

with that perfect ten in the mix as well? For example, if a gymnast

:31:23.:31:27.

falls, they lose a hallmark of execution. A bit of a wobble can be

:31:28.:31:34.

one tenth or three tenths. Every little wobble will count on the beam

:31:35.:31:38.

and the fact that the British are two marks behind China with the

:31:39.:31:40.

difficulty, they have clean on the beam. They had a good

:31:41.:31:46.

qualification. They did. I am confident.

:31:47.:31:52.

bars, Russia have the highest qualifying, second-highest qualifier

:31:53.:31:54.

bars, Russia have the highest going in that technique, this is a

:31:55.:31:56.

bars, Russia have the highest very strong piece

:31:57.:32:00.

bars, Russia have the highest Russia's bars against China's Keane

:32:01.:32:01.

at the moment. It is. Russia is renowned for

:32:02.:32:08.

beautiful bar work, great qualification and China didn't have

:32:09.:32:12.

a great time on beam in qualification, quite a few falls.

:32:13.:32:16.

They will be working on that in the past couple of days of training.

:32:17.:32:21.

Beam is... Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, the Chinese

:32:22.:32:24.

are renowned for this piece but we have seen a lot of errors recently

:32:25.:32:29.

from them. It was quite nice to see big sister Becky come out

:32:30.:32:32.

from them. It was quite nice to see what she did. That was so important,

:32:33.:32:34.

that bar routine, following her sister's fall over. Consoling her in

:32:35.:32:40.

some way and say I will do this not just for you but the team as well.

:32:41.:32:45.

Definitely. Important for Becky as she failed in the

:32:46.:32:48.

Definitely. Important for Becky as She was going to be nervous in that

:32:49.:32:51.

routine, already counting before, but she smashed it, amazing witty

:32:52.:32:56.

and I am happy for her -- counting the fall Let's hope they continue to

:32:57.:33:01.

smash it on the second piece of apparatus. Here is who is aware. The

:33:02.:33:07.

Netherlands and Canada on vault. We were just talking about Russia and

:33:08.:33:08.

the USA. Let's get back to Mitch and

:33:09.:33:15.

Christine in the commentary box. Yilin Fan moves to beam.

:33:16.:33:33.

Traditionally the stronghold of the Chinese gymnasts. They are wonderful

:33:34.:33:40.

technicians on the beam, very subtle. Effortless. It makes working

:33:41.:33:49.

on the beam much easier. Very dynamic as well, the round off,

:33:50.:33:52.

straight back somersault, two jumps. Change Lake leap, she took her head

:33:53.:34:07.

right back, to disguise a wobble on the full spin. Spins, leaps,

:34:08.:34:12.

acrobatics are the things that have to be performed on the beam. Very

:34:13.:34:17.

secure on the free walk over. Another good jump. Showing how

:34:18.:34:20.

supple she is. She probably would have chosen to

:34:21.:34:38.

leap those are two elements and that would have given her a bit more of a

:34:39.:34:42.

bonus, but she did not give too much away by wobbling too much. Very

:34:43.:34:48.

focused on the end of the beam for the two and a half twists, just a

:34:49.:34:51.

step back. It was a good, solid start for China.

:34:52.:34:57.

Just a bit unsteady on that landing. Stepped back. A lot of good work.

:34:58.:35:05.

Lovely, second with full term, beautifully done, there is the

:35:06.:35:19.

third. -- full-term Mac. Very accurate start.

:35:20.:35:28.

Nice Jager. Cleanly done. Finding handstand. A bit late with that one.

:35:29.:35:40.

Full twisting double, good routine. No wasted elements. Very good work,

:35:41.:35:48.

there, bronze-medallist last year in the World Championships.

:35:49.:35:51.

So clean. A bit late completing the handstand but the dismount was just

:35:52.:36:00.

what she would have wanted. Accurate and difficult.

:36:01.:36:03.

Are unusual start, the gymnasts have to work load to the beam. Quite

:36:04.:36:42.

favoured to start with a lowdown elements like that. You can see why

:36:43.:36:45.

the focus, from somersault with half term, beautifully flighted. And the

:36:46.:36:50.

most difficult to move you will see. The leap with the head right

:36:51.:36:55.

back, and another one. Quite disconcerting to stick your head

:36:56.:37:00.

right back off the beam. Especially in an arena with sparkly lights. You

:37:01.:37:05.

can see her focus, another big element, here. Oh. She held it well,

:37:06.:37:11.

round off straight back somersault. This is packed with difficulty. This

:37:12.:37:19.

time she didn't manage to control it, the front somersault just tipped

:37:20.:37:24.

the shoulder to the side. You could see a couple of elements had been a

:37:25.:37:31.

bit wobbly. It builds and builds. Strong free walk over, though,

:37:32.:37:35.

although she changed her mind and did not do the leap afterwards. Full

:37:36.:37:44.

spin, have to be included. Two confident leaps.

:37:45.:37:50.

So important, with only three people working and every school has to

:37:51.:37:56.

count, she must nail the landing as well and she does. Good triple twist

:37:57.:38:01.

to finish but at least one mark off for the fall. We thought it was

:38:02.:38:08.

their best piece, but they have had some problems. Very unusually, China

:38:09.:38:13.

following on a strong apparatus for them that Iraq China faltering.

:38:14.:38:17.

The routine is packed with difficulty, she had already done it.

:38:18.:38:26.

A bit disappointed with that, so will the Chinese team be. Russian

:38:27.:38:37.

Federation in front of China, the Netherlands in third at this stage

:38:38.:38:38.

and Japan in fourth. Now for Great Britain, Ellie Downie

:38:39.:38:49.

approaches the beam. This is her first year as a senior,

:38:50.:39:02.

she was outstanding in the junior ranks.

:39:03.:39:07.

But, it's a big ask, to be one of the three depended on for your

:39:08.:39:14.

country and the World Championship final. Beautiful front somersault,

:39:15.:39:20.

but this is a super difficult element. Half turn into different

:39:21.:39:27.

somersault, we call it a standing Arabian. You can see her fantastic

:39:28.:39:35.

power. Change Lake leap and immediately change Lake half. She

:39:36.:39:41.

controls herself well. Very difficult routine. This is a

:39:42.:39:48.

difficult element. You are an cited. Losing sight of the beam twice. The

:39:49.:39:55.

element that all gymnasts have to include, the acrobatic series.

:39:56.:39:55.

Really well performed. She needs to keep our eyes on the

:39:56.:40:10.

beam and control the centre of the body. Whilst being elegant and

:40:11.:40:17.

dancing beautifully, which, she is. Poise and control. She needs to keep

:40:18.:40:24.

it right to the end, round off, two and a half twists, fantastic

:40:25.:40:26.

performance from Ellie Downie. What a start for Great Britain. What a

:40:27.:40:29.

start! STUDIO: Smiles all around and relief

:40:30.:40:43.

for Ellie Downie to have got through that. It shows her strength of

:40:44.:40:46.

character, she is a determined gymnast, she gets out there and she

:40:47.:40:50.

knows she made a mistake on bars, but nothing to do about it but

:40:51.:40:54.

fightback in the rest. That routine, we could not have asked any more of

:40:55.:40:59.

her. To have watched the Chinese, take some tumbles and rumbles, and

:41:00.:41:04.

remain composed and think, OK, this is it, I have had a fall but I will

:41:05.:41:09.

put that behind me. She has put the bar behind her and moved on to the

:41:10.:41:12.

beam, seeing the Chinese have some wobbles and she has put in a great

:41:13.:41:15.

routine which will boost the confidence of the team. We have now

:41:16.:41:21.

caught up, let's head back down into the

:41:22.:41:26.

USA Madison Kocian. Bar specialist for them. Lovely, clean start.

:41:27.:41:57.

Handstand so important to hit for them. Lovely, clean start.

:41:58.:42:02.

Clean and confident. This time again for them. Lovely, clean start.

:42:03.:42:14.

Straddling the Jager in front somersault. Confident staff. Full

:42:15.:42:21.

turn a tiny bit late into the twisting double. Strong. Yes. Very

:42:22.:42:31.

elegant gymnast, she is from a gym where they have always produced

beautiful, stylish are workers. But as a nation, the bars is not their

:42:38.:42:43.

best piece, is it? Ellie Downie, 14.133 for Great Britain on the

Lovely. Just a tiny little wobble. But when she is on song, she is a

beautiful gymnast on the beam. Control on the leg spin. Two leaps

Just working bars and been today. They will be thrilled to have given

:45:00.:45:12.

Beautifully done, plenty of power. Look at that, she means this.

:45:13.:45:32.

And more of the same, that is beautifully done. Confidently back

:45:33.:45:46.

into the splits. This routine is full of confidence. Plenty of

:45:47.:45:49.

expression. So much energy in this performance.

:45:50.:46:23.

Beautifully presenting. This is important. Another accurate spot and

:46:24.:46:44.

tumble. -- spot on. Great stealth. Rebecca Downie's score, 13.8, that

:46:45.:46:51.

is a good score, and performances in general from the British girls.

:46:52.:46:58.

These are the standings. This is the halfway stage. Great

Britain in fifth place. We are halfway through. The vault

:47:05.:47:25.

tends to be more high scoring, so you will often see the countries

:47:26.:47:28.

that have performed on vault a little higher. Margaret Nichols,

:47:29.:47:39.

Alexandra Raisman, Simone Biles, they carry the responsibility for

:47:40.:47:47.

the Americans. Amy Tinkler, Elissa Downie, Claudia Fragapane. Claudia

:47:48.:47:53.

Fragapane, the Commonwealth champion in this very arena, and that very

:47:54.:47:57.

floor, and she will be delighted to be making another appearance here.

:47:58.:48:03.

But we will start with the Italians, and Carlotta Ferlito. She has made

:48:04.:48:08.

the all-round final, as well, the 20-year-old. One and a half twists,

:48:09.:48:16.

it was a bit scrappy. And a bit low, but she lets pleased. In fact, she

:48:17.:48:21.

does look pleased with that. Oh dear. -- she doesn't look pleased

:48:22.:48:30.

with that. She was very light, but very late getting into the air.

:48:31.:48:41.

Amy Tinkler, at her first World Championships, 16 years old, British

:48:42.:48:53.

champion this year, and here we go. Her first performance at this team

:48:54.:49:05.

final. This is a very big opening tumble, she needs plenty of power

:49:06.:49:10.

and high, two twists and two somersaults, she lands beautifully.

:49:11.:49:22.

-- height. We have had a huge first tumble, she waltzes back, that was a

:49:23.:49:25.

big double straight for the second tumble, so adept at landing.

:49:26.:49:39.

the British team. From Durham gymnastics club, she needs the final

:50:13.:50:16.

tumble, and she has not moved and that landing. What an opening

:50:17.:50:24.

performance. What an Anna Jetty routine, it was powerful and it was

:50:25.:50:28.

pulsing -- what an energetic routine. She is a bubbly gymnast,

:50:29.:50:37.

she is doing the vault here. What a start, this will boost the team to

:50:38.:50:43.

see a performance like this, she loved every moment. She could hardly

:50:44.:50:49.

contain herself, she is loving it. Great Britain, back in the chase.

:50:50.:50:51.

Come on! And across to the bars, this is a

:50:52.:51:24.

quick moving competition, three gymnasts for every team, it moves

:51:25.:51:32.

rapidly along. This is the Canadian champion. She qualified with a 14.1

:51:33.:51:46.

score. She made sure of that start, and that is a good clean transfer,

:51:47.:51:53.

turn, nicely done. Plenty of control with the Tkachev, nice, a clear

:51:54.:52:05.

circle into Tkachev. She held it a long time. Half turn.

:52:06.:52:16.

Double, just pays back, but this is of good stuff. That is why she is

:52:17.:52:25.

the Canadian champion. LAUGHTER Canada, hugely improved team. They

:52:26.:52:32.

absolutely smashed it in qualification. Amy Tinkler, 14.333.

:52:33.:52:49.

Anna Raisman, American, 21 years of age, she got a bronze medal at the

:52:50.:52:59.

London Olympics. Very strong, powerful gymnast, from somersaults

:53:00.:53:06.

to start, immediately into the jump, it is when you link the elements

:53:07.:53:10.

that you get the bonuses and she is a very positive performer. Lovely

:53:11.:53:16.

straight somersault. Not always the most elegant, but one of the most

:53:17.:53:21.

positive that you will see. Two jumps linked. There is the element

:53:22.:53:36.

close to the beam. Strong free cartwheel. Changing, but the second

:53:37.:53:48.

leap was very low, and short of splits, and the judges will deduct

:53:49.:53:55.

for that. Strong, tucked front somersault, she puts those feet so

:53:56.:54:03.

impressively on the beam. Leg lifted and the spin, and then the backspin.

:54:04.:54:10.

-- on the spin. The spin linked together will give her a bonus, but

:54:11.:54:15.

this is the great part of this routine, the dismount, watch

:54:16.:54:20.

closely, half turn, double front, she makes it look as if she has just

:54:21.:54:27.

jumped off the end of the beam. The US stretching their late, they still

:54:28.:54:30.

have the world champion to come for them, this is outstanding

:54:31.:54:35.

gymnastics. Yes, they are so strong and powerful. There is the flip, or

:54:36.:54:45.

most of the site, but there was no hesitation. -- almost. And here,

:54:46.:54:51.

half turn, double front, just spins it. Amazing dismount. The Italian

:54:52.:55:06.

team, Carlotta Ferlito with 14.466 and they are in eighth place at the

:55:07.:55:11.

end of the second rotation, but what a competition developing between

:55:12.:55:15.

Canada and Great Britain, basically performance from performance. That

:55:16.:55:21.

will not do their bit any harm at all, that score from Isabela

:55:22.:55:28.

Onyshko. Vanessa Ferrari has been a world champion, but she is

:55:29.:55:32.

Onyshko. Vanessa Ferrari has been a for Italy, she worked in the

:55:33.:55:35.

qualification but then had to withdraw, and so they are not firing

:55:36.:55:40.

on all cylinders. Testament to her, that she went for the team

:55:41.:55:44.

performance, she put herself on the line, and she went for it and did

:55:45.:55:47.

what she could, and then thought, you know what, I will sit out the

:55:48.:55:52.

team final, you can go and get your experience. That's right, she has

:55:53.:55:56.

always been a great team worker, even when she has not been at her

:55:57.:56:00.

best. She has always turned out for the team. You mention Claudia

:56:01.:56:07.

Fragapane earlier on, the Commonwealth champion, she had a

:56:08.:56:17.

great competition here in Glasgow. That is the score for

:56:18.:56:29.

Simone Biles will be the next gymnast for the Americans on beam, a

:56:30.:56:37.

wonderful story, when she was just 16, she said she could do a double

:56:38.:56:43.

back somersault, and they said, no, go and do that and beam, and she

:56:44.:56:51.

did, having not been taught. -- go and do that on beam. She barely is

:56:52.:56:59.

totally outstanding. Looks like she could do absolutely anything in

:57:00.:57:02.

gymnastics -- she really is totally outstanding. Oh! Front somersault

:57:03.:57:12.

with half turn, she is totally dominating were gymnastics for the

:57:13.:57:16.

last couple of years. -- world gymnastics. Qualified easily as the

:57:17.:57:25.

top performer here. Two lay out somersaults and not the slightest

:57:26.:57:31.

hesitation. The reason she dominates, because her difficulty

:57:32.:57:34.

level is so much higher than anybody else. The links, the difficult

:57:35.:57:44.

moves, the two layouts in succession, the leaps in six

:57:45.:57:48.

session, immediately into the back somersault, that is where the

:57:49.:57:53.

difficulty is built -- succession. She does not wobble around and give

:57:54.:57:57.

too much away to the judges. We have seen a queue of them hesitate with

:57:58.:58:01.

the jump, but she certainly didn't -- few of them. Watch this, full

:58:02.:58:08.

twisting double back, and what a dismount. That is the thing, that

:58:09.:58:20.

beam, it is dead. Amazing stuff. We are men mortals, but that was

:58:21.:58:23.

incredible. Just look at the control. The strength and the

:58:24.:58:30.

support, to hold that crouch position, up on the toe, that is

:58:31.:58:35.

amazing. She does that on the floor, but she actually does it better and

:58:36.:58:48.

a beam. Incredible. -- on beam. Incredible gymnast. Claudia

:58:49.:58:56.

Fragapane, then, the Great Britain. This is a crucial routine, in this

:58:57.:59:04.

battle with Canada. She's a real bundle of energy, and that is what

:59:05.:59:10.

is needed here. She has got to be accurate, and she has got to be

:59:11.:59:15.

difficult. That is the sort of tumbling we want, fabulous start.

:59:16.:59:24.

Just look at this, burning a hole in that carpet. Super. Harnesses the

:59:25.:59:42.

power. Oh! It is so impressive. So much power.

:59:43.:59:55.

She brings the routine together. She goes again. PowerPro, terrific,

:01:24.:01:34.

that for a score. 15.2 on beam. My word.

:01:35.:01:43.

There is the standings at the moment. USA well ahead in Great

:01:44.:01:50.

Britain, still a lot of gymnastics to come, don't get too excited, but

:01:51.:01:55.

they are ahead of Canada. Edging in potentially on the medals.

:01:56.:02:14.

Really powerful gymnast. Powers down. She lifts high. Two twists.

:02:15.:02:21.

Very nicely performed. Putting in a huge amount of effort

:02:22.:02:29.

today, she is working on every piece for Japan. Japan was so impressive.

:02:30.:02:36.

You can see why. Well rehearsed. She met the floor beautifully.

:02:37.:02:45.

First of the Chinese gymnasts on the floor.

:02:46.:02:56.

The Chinese champion just 15 years old.

:02:57.:03:09.

Dramatic music. Double twist double back. Super high tumble.

:03:10.:03:27.

Gymnasts have to work out to the corners, they can't stand and wait.

:03:28.:03:34.

That was... Look at that, one and a half into triple twists, media to

:03:35.:03:40.

punch front. Super work -- immediate punch.

:03:41.:03:43.

Two and a half, very nice lift into the front somersault with half turn.

:03:44.:04:15.

Renowned for the beautiful subtle suppleness. Building up to this

:04:16.:04:30.

tumble. She needs to land well, big double pike, she does, confident.

:04:31.:04:36.

Really good opener for China on a piece of apparatus that is not

:04:37.:04:41.

traditionally their best. A lot of pressure on them. Almost two marks

:04:42.:04:45.

behind Russia, going into this rotation. Russia having done a very

:04:46.:04:50.

strong performance on bars, they are now on beam at the moment. They have

:04:51.:04:58.

got some very good beam workers, Russia, we will catch up with them

:04:59.:04:59.

very shortly. Russia. Last year's bronze-medallist

:05:00.:05:18.

in this team final. Two flips into a good high straight

:05:19.:05:42.

back somersault and she had to work hard to control that slightly off.

:05:43.:05:49.

The judges have to decide whether the feet touched the head, there.

:05:50.:05:56.

That was secure. Very nice free cartwheel. And a definite join

:05:57.:06:02.

between the leap and the somersault.

:06:03.:06:13.

Two difficult leaps. Some deductions. My goodness me! What

:06:14.:06:23.

should be a Brit of Lee simple spin for her ends in a fall -- relatively

:06:24.:06:32.

simple. Loss of concentration. Near the end of the routine as well.

:06:33.:06:38.

Easily done. She must focus for the dismount. Double pike. She does,

:06:39.:06:44.

Easily done. She must focus for the that will be costly. Not something

:06:45.:06:47.

you would expect from a European beam champion. No, indeed.

:06:48.:06:51.

She has good rhythm. Sometimes the rhythm can overtake the

:06:52.:07:00.

concentration. She could do that every day of the week, that

:07:01.:07:01.

element. The first gymnast to go sat down on

:07:02.:07:20.

her dismount. Wang Yang, 14.633 for her floor routine. Very good score.

:07:21.:07:43.

great approach. One and a half twists. Was it straight? A close

:07:44.:07:52.

look on the replay, we will take. I am never quite sure where the line

:07:53.:07:55.

is drawn. She nominated straight, but she held her body quite

:07:56.:08:01.

straight. That was straight. I think they will give her a bit of a

:08:02.:08:05.

deduction for pie King down on landing.

:08:06.:08:07.

deduction for pie King down on here, isn't it? Huge vault. She had

:08:08.:08:13.

to pike it down. Otherwise she would have run out of air. 6.2 is the

:08:14.:08:19.

tariff, if they thought it was perfect it would be 16.2. 15.166.

:08:20.:08:26.

What a great score, that will keep them ahead of the Italians. Seventh,

:08:27.:08:30.

going into this rotation. They have moved ahead of Great

:08:31.:08:36.

Britain at the moment. By less than one tenth. But they are

:08:37.:08:51.

ahead. 3M, three to go. It can change so easily. -- three in. .

:08:52.:08:54.

Former European champion. change so easily. -- three in. .

:08:55.:08:59.

having a very happy time on the beam at all. Viktoria

:09:00.:09:08.

and characteristic, they got the second highest score as a country on

:09:09.:09:12.

this piece of apparatus in qualification but what a different

:09:13.:09:16.

story, Chris. It is the piece of apparatus that can easily come to

:09:17.:09:23.

grief. However much you train, the nerves can kick in. The three up, 3

:09:24.:09:31.

to count is a lot of pressure on these gymnasts. But this has been

:09:32.:09:36.

very nice, so far. A couple of wobbles. But, she looks like she is

:09:37.:09:42.

well focused. Such a stylist and beautiful gymnast. Arabian

:09:43.:09:49.

somersault, feet down the side. Like you said, Matt. This is proving to

:09:50.:09:55.

be very costly for Russia. However beautiful the gymnastics is, you

:09:56.:09:59.

have to stay on, on the day. You have to be able to perform. Leg held

:10:00.:10:09.

on the spin. Steely concentration in her eyes, she knows she can't let

:10:10.:10:14.

herself go to pieces. So easy, when you have had a 1 fall, to let it

:10:15.:10:18.

turn into two or three. She knows she has to keep focused.

:10:19.:10:28.

Beautiful body shape. Now we have to see her perform well. Two flips,

:10:29.:10:37.

double back somersault. She held that. But, that was a wobbly old

:10:38.:10:44.

routine. So important to hold onto every single 10th you can when you

:10:45.:10:48.

have a costly deduction like that. Absolutely. The big challenges to

:10:49.:10:52.

get up and get on with the routine. To pick up your focus again. It

:10:53.:10:55.

really hits you, psychologically. But, she never really settled, did

:10:56.:11:05.

she, Chris? She didn't, she wobbled on the first couple of elements, you

:11:06.:11:09.

are right, she just did not. Subtle. But, when you have already

:11:10.:11:13.

seen two team makes make mistakes, you are under a lot of pressure as

:11:14.:11:17.

you come into a routine. Both of those gymnasts are 0.7 down on their

:11:18.:11:22.

qualification score. Edgy times within the Russian camp, here.

:11:23.:11:35.

Chunsong Shang will know exactly what has been going on. She is the

:11:36.:11:43.

last gymnast on floor, for China. Got a silver at the Chinese

:11:44.:11:47.

Championships on this piece not so long ago. How much power is in that

:11:48.:11:53.

tiny frame? We are about to find out. Impressive stuff. Too and a

:11:54.:11:59.

full twist. -- two and a half into. Twisting her way through these

:12:00.:12:22.

combinations and that was really beautifully done.

:12:23.:12:28.

What did I say about twisting? Amazing.

:12:29.:12:34.

Half twists out of the two and a half twists. They go on and on.

:12:35.:13:06.

Double pike to finish and that is the first falter, we saw her foot go

:13:07.:13:16.

out. Lost form my bit on the final turn. What a shame with her foot out

:13:17.:13:23.

of the area at the end. Just a 0.1 deduction, but China were not good

:13:24.:13:28.

in qualification on floor, these were much better performances. Much

:13:29.:13:37.

stronger. Two steps back and out, a good 0.3 if not a 0.5 deduction.

:13:38.:13:50.

0.5. Each step is 0.1, 0.3. Did they get out of the 13s on beam? I don't

:13:51.:13:57.

think they did. I don't think so either. They have got the floor to

:13:58.:14:04.

try to put things right. Just one more piece to go. Great Britain on

:14:05.:14:10.

the climb. Are we going to see a repeat performance the World

:14:11.:14:15.

Championship team final last year, where China took silver? Russia took

:14:16.:14:16.

bronze. This fabulous arena, you can see the

:14:17.:14:44.

gymnasts March round to their final piece. It's intense.

:14:45.:14:52.

We can bet where the gold is going. But it is tight underneath. There is

:14:53.:14:58.

indeed. There is, indeed. Just waiting for a few final

:14:59.:15:12.

calculations and then we can bring you the standings of how things look

:15:13.:15:24.

in the women's team final. Still waiting for that last Chinese

:15:25.:15:33.

gymnast score from the floor. Gymnasts of the first team, they are

:15:34.:15:44.

off to Walmart. Russia and USA, being the top qualifiers -- they are

:15:45.:15:47.

off to warm up. They will finish here on the floor. While we are

:15:48.:15:53.

waiting for the gymnasts, we can have a word with the former floor

:15:54.:15:57.

world champion, Beth Tweddle. Your thoughts and Amy Tinkler -- on Amy

:15:58.:16:07.

Tinkler? That was fantastic a great birthday present for her, and she

:16:08.:16:10.

wowed the crowd and it looks like she really enjoys that routine.

:16:11.:16:15.

Great hopes for the future when you see a gymnast who can come into an

:16:16.:16:20.

arena like this and just drive. Yes, as soon as she studied the routine,

:16:21.:16:24.

the double double, she nailed it, and I know she has got other tumbles

:16:25.:16:28.

in the bag and so she is definitely a start of the future. Your thoughts

:16:29.:16:33.

on what is happening to Russia at the moment? What has happened? They

:16:34.:16:39.

should be full of confidence going into beam, but every gymnast had an

:16:40.:16:44.

issue. They did not look like they even tried to fight to stay on and

:16:45.:16:47.

they will have two keep their heads up and go into the final piece,

:16:48.:16:51.

because they could actually hand out the bronze medal to Japan or

:16:52.:16:57.

hopefully Great Britain. We can tell you now, the United States, without

:16:58.:17:00.

a doubt, they are well ahead of the rest. China have gone ahead in front

:17:01.:17:10.

of Russia. There is a real battle going on between Japan, Great

:17:11.:17:15.

Britain, and Canada. Yes, there is, Great Britain are in a great

:17:16.:17:19.

position, because they are and vault, they know that, they have got

:17:20.:17:23.

three double twist stash they are on vault. It is up to the others to

:17:24.:17:30.

fight for the third place. Thanks, you can enjoy the rest of the

:17:31.:17:33.

competition and we will speak to you very shortly. Just to reiterate,

:17:34.:17:42.

China and Great Britain on vault, Japan and Italy on uneven bars, and

:17:43.:17:51.

the Netherlands and Canada will be finishing their competition and

:17:52.:17:55.

beam, the final piece of apparatus, and then Russia and the USA, they

:17:56.:18:03.

will wrap things up on the floor. Looking at the scores, China, almost

:18:04.:18:08.

a mark in front of Russia going into this last piece. Floor, does that

:18:09.:18:20.

give as big deductions as vault? What would you rather finish on?

:18:21.:18:27.

Vault, that is for certain. Yan Wang will be the first gymnast with the

:18:28.:18:30.

job of rounding off the Chinese performance. She begins well. The

:18:31.:18:37.

double twist. She was a bit deeper on the landing. -- deep.

:18:38.:18:47.

double twist. She was a bit deeper on the top of the horse, takes the

:18:48.:18:52.

double twist round, a bit low in flight, but tidy enough to open up.

:18:53.:18:59.

That is a big tariff, the six difficulty for that approach. Maria

:19:00.:19:09.

Paseka, now for Russia, she will be the first of the three gymnasts, and

:19:10.:19:15.

a reminder, all three scores are added together, so no margin for the

:19:16.:19:20.

Russians. And their final piece of apparatus. Very convincing and the

:19:21.:19:32.

first Tkachev spin. Two and a half, into front full, difficult tumbles.

:19:33.:19:48.

Russia, beautiful, elegant One and a half twists into another,

:19:49.:19:53.

that time forwards. She hits the splits in the leap

:19:54.:20:24.

well. Now they are allowed one tumble where they stand on two feet

:20:25.:20:29.

and then pause, she has used that, and then the deep landing with steps

:20:30.:20:32.

back. Well, not hugely difficult, very

:20:33.:20:43.

elegant. Is the door open Well, not hugely difficult, very

:20:44.:20:52.

bronze medal pretty mark Japan, Great Britain, Canada -- bronze

:20:53.:21:00.

medal? That is the 1 double back, she did very well not to sit

:21:01.:21:03.

medal? That is the 1 double back, but she will take deductions for the

:21:04.:21:20.

steps back. 15.2, Yan Wang. That is a good score. Looking secure in

:21:21.:21:23.

silver. Good score. Yi Mao,

:21:24.:21:36.

gymnast. Trying to add to Yi Mao,

:21:37.:21:47.

of her team-mate, and that is another good vault. They are pulling

:21:48.:21:54.

them out. There will just be one more performance from a gymnast for

:21:55.:22:01.

China. And the medal will be theirs. She did spin that round. Well done.

:22:02.:22:08.

Powerful, confident Bolton, from the first two Chinese gymnast stash

:22:09.:22:17.

confident vaulting. They are all united.

:22:18.:22:26.

And finally. Jiaxin Tan. She scored 14.866, so she is more than capable.

:22:27.:22:42.

This, then, four silver medal, in the women's team final. -- for. They

:22:43.:22:50.

asked like gymnast, but plenty of determination and that double twist

:22:51.:22:54.

was great. -- they are slight gymnasts. That was the best of what

:22:55.:23:01.

we have seen on the vault. Look how quickly she gets down to that, that

:23:02.:23:04.

is beautiful, and she finished superbly. Lovely straight arms on

:23:05.:23:10.

the top of the platform, and a tiny bit of direction, but the judges

:23:11.:23:23.

will deduct a bit for that. I think they know, even before the scores

:23:24.:23:29.

come up. They've done well. They looked very shaky qualification, but

:23:30.:23:31.

they have performed very well today. Well, Russia have it all to do now,

:23:32.:23:47.

on floor, to just eight in the third place. -- to just stay in third

:23:48.:23:55.

place. They were looking so confident earlier on in second

:23:56.:23:59.

place, but it all seems to crumble. Anxious wait all round. Just waiting

:24:00.:24:14.

for Maria Paseka's score, and we can have a look at a few of her passes.

:24:15.:24:27.

Seda Tutkhalian, it she springs and to vault. She was outstanding last

:24:28.:24:56.

year, she won the youth Olympics. -- she springs and to vault.

:24:57.:25:05.

She links the leaps and tumbles so well, great jump at the end.

:25:06.:25:49.

There is a starter out of the spin. -- stutter. Very efficient. And

:25:50.:26:12.

there is a big pike somersault. Well-controlled, no major mistakes,

:26:13.:26:22.

but not really hugely difficult. There is one more per forwards to go

:26:23.:26:25.

for Russia and that will be their competition over with -- there is

:26:26.:26:30.

one more but forwards to go for Russia. And then we will see Great

:26:31.:26:39.

Britain take to vault. 15.2, Jiaxin Tan. That is a very good score four

:26:40.:26:45.

double twist in, that is a big score.

:26:46.:26:58.

Beautiful turn, nicely controlled. The half turn. This is a good start.

:26:59.:27:28.

Find a way to the lower bar, that is a good transfer. The big wind-up.

:27:29.:27:40.

Full twisting double, nicely done. The Japanese are piling on the

:27:41.:27:48.

pressure on the Russians. Just outside of the medals at last year

:27:49.:27:51.

's World Championships on the uneven bars, that gymnast.

:27:52.:28:03.

She is a powerful sparkly little gymnast, with good technique.

:28:04.:28:13.

Finishes that tumble with the chest really lifted. Which is very good,

:28:14.:28:19.

the judges deduct a lot if your chest is right down at the end of

:28:20.:28:25.

your tumble. She lifts the chest. Met the floor well. But the judges

:28:26.:28:33.

are having a long think. Interesting to see how C -- she gets on in the

:28:34.:28:49.

all-round final, which she has made, she's one to keep your ion in the

:28:50.:28:56.

few years. -- eye on in the next few years. And now the current European

:28:57.:29:05.

champion and floor. -- on floor. One of the highest qualifiers. That was

:29:06.:29:14.

a lovely jump. Super double straight. Did not flinch on the

:29:15.:29:26.

landing. A loss of control at the end of the spin, just a little. Big

:29:27.:29:35.

concentration. Whip, Whip, into triple twist, she held it well. Very

:29:36.:29:51.

experienced gymnast. Pace is the routine beautifully. -- paces. Two

:29:52.:30:01.

and a half, into straight front, cleverly jumped out of it.

:30:02.:30:14.

Certainly selling the routine well. Lots of marks for artistry. She held

:30:15.:30:33.

on a bit too long to that. Very nice finish.

:30:34.:30:36.

They are all smiling, for some reason, I don't know what's gone

:30:37.:30:47.

on. I think it's quite a favourite routine. Right. She had to fight a

:30:48.:30:54.

lot on that double pike, she did really well not to sit down. A

:30:55.:30:57.

couple of occasions I thought she was going to buckle, but she did

:30:58.:31:02.

welcome plenty of fight. That is it, the Russian's competition is

:31:03.:31:06.

over, have they done enough to hang on for a bronze medal? Great Britain

:31:07.:31:09.

will certainly have something to about that. Japan have said what

:31:10.:31:12.

they can already. We will see. 42.556 points behind Japan, Great

:31:13.:31:29.

Britain. If the British girls can do... What

:31:30.:31:45.

they did in qualification, here, they will beat them. Beat Japan?

:31:46.:31:54.

Yes. And we see, again, just how well she did to hold that last

:31:55.:31:59.

somersault. Scored 14.6 in qualification on the floor.

:32:00.:32:06.

Team spirit, that's what we like to see.

:32:07.:32:15.

They took the bronze at last year's World Championships, China were

:32:16.:32:20.

silver and US gold. The US led, really, by... You can

:32:21.:32:38.

take your pick. Simone Biles, two time world champion in Simone Biles.

:32:39.:32:44.

Ali Raisman Olympic champion and Claudia Fragapane, Amy Tinkler... We

:32:45.:32:54.

said how powerful Amy was on floor, she will need all of her energy on

:32:55.:32:58.

this final piece of apparatus. Ellie Downie as well. Putting in great

:32:59.:33:04.

effort, the women's team, today. Just a few moments of preparation.

:33:05.:33:06.

Canadian gymnasts on beam. Led by Elsabeth Black. Tough piece

:33:07.:33:12.

to finish on, Matt, beam. 14.5. But how far out

:33:13.:33:37.

from Great Britain? We will get out the

:33:38.:33:46.

Still, the US are yet to go on floor.

:33:47.:34:11.

Claudia Fragapane. She listens to the roar of the Hydro arena.

:34:12.:34:20.

Commonwealth champion. Look at the pace and conversion, she got it

:34:21.:34:21.

round beautifully. Such attack. Look at this. I mean this, she

:34:22.:34:36.

says. There's your double twist. Almost nailed it. Disguised it

:34:37.:34:43.

well. They need every single 10th they can get, let me just get you

:34:44.:34:50.

excited. 44.633 behind Russia. Scoring in qualifying for Great

:34:51.:34:57.

Britain is 44.865. As we join Margaret Nichols on the floor for

:34:58.:34:59.

the US. She has really been a solid member

:35:00.:35:09.

for them in this Championships. Big opening tumble.

:35:10.:35:23.

Full twisting double back in the second. These gymnasts are so

:35:24.:35:28.

dynamic. Sky-high double back to finish. Not

:35:29.:36:27.

many deductions in that routine at all. Phenomenal. First up. I was

:36:28.:36:36.

going to say, it's only going to get better! I mean, they are just...

:36:37.:36:45.

Talk of sky-high, my goodness. 14.8 for cloudier Fragapane.

:36:46.:36:50.

Just slightly down on qualification but not by much. Come on, Amy. There

:36:51.:37:01.

is a role going around. What an atmosphere. Lifting Amy. And it did

:37:02.:37:12.

the trick, she responded to the crowd. To produce a super double

:37:13.:37:18.

twist. What a great landing that was. Well, well, well. Under extreme

:37:19.:37:28.

pressure, she delivers. You can see how much she has enjoyed this

:37:29.:37:31.

Championships, she has grown with it. Absolutely delighted.

:37:32.:37:40.

Oh, lovely. Great to see that spirit. They've really trained very

:37:41.:38:00.

hard together for the last five or six weeks. It has been a tough

:38:01.:38:05.

regime, but you can see the result of it. Straight down the middle, it

:38:06.:38:09.

is difficult to keep a twists like that so straight. Yes, she's really

:38:10.:38:14.

confident. She has competed this vault for a couple of years and it

:38:15.:38:20.

shows. Such attack. Kelly Simm, who has not worked today, but part of

:38:21.:38:21.

the team that qualified them. Here she is, the next gymnasts up

:38:22.:38:41.

for them. Current Olympic champion on floor.

:38:42.:38:57.

Watched this amazing first tumble, one and a half, round of flip,

:38:58.:39:03.

double Arabian and straight front somersault, unbelievable.

:39:04.:39:17.

Another beautiful double pike Arabian, immediate jump.

:39:18.:39:42.

She knows this music so well. She expresses it beautifully. Double

:39:43.:39:52.

straight somersault. We haven't had a flicker on landing, yet.

:39:53.:40:14.

What magical, huge tumble to finish? Double pike on the spot. That's the

:40:15.:40:23.

only little deduction, what a fabulous example of tumbling out

:40:24.:40:28.

dynamic work on floor. Utterly breathtaking to witness and

:40:29.:40:34.

observe. What a gymnast to look up to, for all those young gymnasts out

:40:35.:40:36.

there, that is the way to do it. Amy Tinkler scores an enormous

:40:37.:40:46.

15.083. Well! Oh! That will do nicely. It is a

:40:47.:41:16.

tremendous vault that could well give Great Britain the first ever

:41:17.:41:22.

medal in a world team final! Another double twist. Consistency,

:41:23.:41:27.

determination and focus. What a team effort. She is a fabulous Volta,

:41:28.:41:31.

anywhere, but she had all that pressure on her shoulders. Hasn't

:41:32.:41:36.

had the greatest of Championships, but that was fantastic vaulting from

:41:37.:41:42.

the British girls. She had a shaky start, the tumble on the first piece

:41:43.:41:46.

of apparatus, but goodness me, if she has done what I think she has,

:41:47.:41:59.

my word. At her age. She is so dynamic. Watch the pop of the top,

:42:00.:42:04.

she really could become a great vaulter in the world of gymnastics.

:42:05.:42:08.

What a team effort, though. Final piece. They really produced it.

:42:09.:42:18.

Absolutely fantastic. CHEERING They've gone ahead of Russia!

:42:19.:42:25.

15.133. That is a bronze medal, for Great Britain! Unbelievable! Look at

:42:26.:42:33.

the coaches! Well! Can you believe it, Mitch? All of the coaches of the

:42:34.:42:40.

British team, there... The emotion, the release, having gone through

:42:41.:42:43.

what she went through at the start of the competition and to seal the

:42:44.:42:50.

deal for Great Britain... That is a first for Great Britain. Look at

:42:51.:42:54.

those coaches. They've all had a stake in this. Brilliant effort.

:42:55.:43:04.

Wow! Look at the emotion, I'm crying myself, Matt!

:43:05.:43:09.

We talked about role models with this girl. We have certainly seen

:43:10.:43:20.

one in Ellie Downie. 15.075, for Alexandra Raisman.

:43:21.:43:25.

One more gymnast to go in this team final competition. The honour falls

:43:26.:43:35.

down to Simone Biles. Two-time world champion and current floor world

:43:36.:43:40.

champion, highest qualifier here at these. Championships. Just watched

:43:41.:43:47.

this. Just say that this. Most fabulous example of pure power in

:43:48.:43:48.

her tumbling. Look at this first tumble, double

:43:49.:43:54.

straight with full twist. Doesn't take a pause. Straight back

:43:55.:44:11.

into that fantastic double straight with half turn.

:44:12.:44:42.

This is the third tumble two with absolute aplomb.

:44:43.:44:50.

double back. Tiniest of hops forward.

:44:51.:45:10.

Great finish, so expressive. Shows her personality perfectly. Great as

:45:11.:45:24.

ever from the USA. It was a foregone conclusion, but what a

:45:25.:45:27.

ever from the USA. It was a foregone competition we have had. It has

:45:28.:45:29.

resulted in a bronze medal for Great Britain. The

:45:30.:45:35.

resulted in a bronze medal for Great gold. China will take silver. Great

:45:36.:45:40.

Britain with a bronze medal, terrific competition. For most of

:45:41.:45:46.

these gymnasts, a fantastic example terrific competition. For most of

:45:47.:45:54.

power, and today was the Russian team at fault,

:45:55.:46:02.

power, and today was the Russian that you cannot fault and women. --

:46:03.:46:08.

falter and win. For the British girls, the coaches on the floor, Liz

:46:09.:46:15.

and Colin, they are there. They did it with style, they held their

:46:16.:46:23.

focus, and reduced three enormous vaults. But you have to hand it to

:46:24.:46:32.

the USA. Look at this power pack of a gymnast. They held their nerve, as

:46:33.:46:39.

well, they did not look so great in qualification and they made mistakes

:46:40.:46:43.

like China, but they really nailed it today. Sheer power, she is, and

:46:44.:46:53.

always will be. And just look at the smile on her face. She exemplifies

:46:54.:46:59.

the joy of performance, doesn't she? She might not be the most graceful

:47:00.:47:04.

gymnast, but you get a sense of enjoyment when you watch her

:47:05.:47:11.

perform. She pulls you in, you cannot stay distant from a

:47:12.:47:13.

performance like that, you want to be part of it, she sells it

:47:14.:47:23.

beautifully. Simone Biles 15.9 in qualification, but the best we have

:47:24.:47:31.

seen was 15.1 today on the floor. 15.733, that sales a golden day for

:47:32.:47:39.

Simone Biles and the USA -- that sales. They have dominated and

:47:40.:47:45.

deservedly so. There is a weakness. -- there is no weakness. The chairs

:47:46.:47:58.

-- cheering is a balance between that for the USA and for the Great

:47:59.:48:04.

Britain same. Oh yes. For the United States, gold medal for them. China,

:48:05.:48:10.

consistent, they have worked hard, to take the silver. You have got to

:48:11.:48:19.

give it to these guys. Great Britain, for the first time, produce

:48:20.:48:25.

a team bronze medal at the World Championships on home territory.

:48:26.:48:38.

Beth Tweddle, you are wiping tears away, this is emotional, I know, we

:48:39.:48:44.

could not quite believe what was happening on the vault, the pressure

:48:45.:48:49.

was on, but they would not have known the intricacy of the scoring

:48:50.:48:52.

details, but they might have thought, they are in with a shout.

:48:53.:48:58.

Yes, we were watching Russia so closely on the floor, and every step

:48:59.:49:01.

they took, we thought they were opening the door, and on that vault,

:49:02.:49:07.

we had the calculators out, working at every step of the way. Fair play

:49:08.:49:11.

to the British, they had the mistake early on, but they got back up, and

:49:12.:49:17.

they fought all the way until the end and that was the difference.

:49:18.:49:27.

Initially, when they took that fall on the bars at the start, we all

:49:28.:49:33.

thought, oh well. Yes, it is difficult, the British team went out

:49:34.:49:37.

there, and they nailed every other routine, and we even heard Amy

:49:38.:49:42.

Tinkler, going, that is the best double twist she has ever done. In

:49:43.:49:46.

the most beautiful Durham accent, I have to add. There is confirmation,

:49:47.:49:52.

the United States, well in front of the rest of the world. Great

:49:53.:50:00.

Britain, well-deserved and well thought for bronze medal -- well

:50:01.:50:08.

fought. It was a great competition, and it can be devastatingly hard. It

:50:09.:50:14.

can, and it showed that with Russia and beam, every single one of them

:50:15.:50:17.

fell and that opened up the door for Great Britain -- on beam. Great

:50:18.:50:23.

Britain were consistent and that put them ahead. And for Ellie to be the

:50:24.:50:33.

genus, putting it right, you could see what that meant to her, the

:50:34.:50:37.

burst of emotion -- to be the gymnast. There was a lot of pressure

:50:38.:50:44.

on her, and she knew that if she did the double twist, the likelihood was

:50:45.:50:47.

they would take the bronze medal, and you could see the rest of them

:50:48.:50:50.

trying to calm her down, and it was very nice to see her get the bronze

:50:51.:50:55.

medal. You are very keen to hear from the women, and so we will go

:50:56.:51:04.

down to David. I am here the world team bronze-medallists, described

:51:05.:51:10.

how you are feeling? This week has been a crazy week, after

:51:11.:51:13.

qualification, I had a big disappointment, and we knew we had

:51:14.:51:18.

the possibility to come fighting, and I had to change things rapidly

:51:19.:51:23.

and I was nervous going up, especially after Ellie, but I said,

:51:24.:51:28.

anything can happen, and we have got to keep on fighting, every single

:51:29.:51:32.

point counts, and after the first mistake the girls did amazing, and I

:51:33.:51:36.

did not have asked for any more and I'm so pleased. Ellie, you had a

:51:37.:51:43.

fall on the bars, but you came back, and Beth Tweddle said he showed real

:51:44.:51:49.

resolve, and what a vault at the end. I was very nervous going into

:51:50.:51:54.

bars, it has been up and down, and I had the mistake, and I had a mistake

:51:55.:51:59.

in qualification and I let it go, and so I knew I had to pull myself

:52:00.:52:04.

together and do my best, and I'm shocked, I cannot believe it. Amy

:52:05.:52:10.

Tinkler, your last vault, how was the pressure going into that? I'm

:52:11.:52:17.

speechless, to be honest. I don't even know what to say, oh my god,

:52:18.:52:22.

I'm so proud of everyone, I can't believe it. What a birthday present.

:52:23.:52:30.

We have one more, Amy Tinkler, happy 16th birthday. Thank you so much. Go

:52:31.:52:36.

and get your medals, well done. Congratulations. STUDIO: She will

:52:37.:52:49.

give us a slice of cake. I'm sure. We chose it, to be fair. We can have

:52:50.:52:55.

a look back at the stunning performances from the British team,

:52:56.:53:00.

and we will go to the floor first. What a debut she has had at this

:53:01.:53:06.

World Championships. Yes, she has looked so cool and she said, she

:53:07.:53:12.

speechless, she has taken every single piece in her stride, she has

:53:13.:53:16.

not let the home crowd or the pressure phase her, she has always

:53:17.:53:22.

thrived on the pressure. You can see at the end of the rude -- routine,

:53:23.:53:30.

the relate, she know she has done it. She did so well at the

:53:31.:53:34.

Commonwealth Games in this arena, and now thriving again here. We

:53:35.:53:39.

heard Christine she had been injured twisting and element. Yes, she tried

:53:40.:53:45.

to change her routine, and had an injury, so she had to go back to her

:53:46.:53:51.

old routine. It is all about getting big scores, and it was amazing what

:53:52.:53:55.

she could pull out for the team. We are going to see all of the vaults.

:53:56.:54:01.

Amy Tinkler, power and energy into the vault. As we heard, it is the

:54:02.:54:08.

best double twist she has ever completed, and that was directly

:54:09.:54:13.

down the line. To stand at that end, and know that if you do your best

:54:14.:54:16.

double twist, it will be a bronze medal, that is a lot of pressure,

:54:17.:54:20.

especially when she is only turning 16 today. Exactly. Claudia

:54:21.:54:28.

Fragapane, again. The difference for her, she has been in this

:54:29.:54:32.

pressurised situation, but the British team had such a tough regime

:54:33.:54:36.

leading into this competition and now it is paying off. They were

:54:37.:54:39.

great in training, I saw them a couple of days and podium training,

:54:40.:54:45.

and they have looked so happy as a team, the coaches have kept them

:54:46.:54:51.

chilled out. And then, this, this is the bronze performance, really. It

:54:52.:54:57.

was this vault that sealed it. 14.717, I think. If you want someone

:54:58.:55:02.

to go up knowing you have got to score that, she is your

:55:03.:55:07.

to go up knowing you have got to is so strong and dynamic, and the

:55:08.:55:11.

height that she gets, she can see the landing, and you can see the

:55:12.:55:13.

smile on her face. That says everything. We have these young

:55:14.:55:20.

gymnastics, with Ellie and Amy, looking ahead to Rio, they have

:55:21.:55:24.

already booked themselves a ticket. What can they do? Who knows? It is

:55:25.:55:32.

in their hands. If they can keep pushing on and working hard in the

:55:33.:55:38.

gym, they can do anything in Rio, they look like a bright young team.

:55:39.:55:43.

What will the plan B? They will have China in their sights. They will

:55:44.:55:49.

take a bit of downtime after these World Championships, knowing they

:55:50.:55:52.

have the qualification spot, and they will get their bodies

:55:53.:55:55.

recovered, and then it is heads down and they will be consolidating their

:55:56.:55:59.

routines. I cannot imagine there will be too many upgrades, they know

:56:00.:56:03.

the consistency, but there will be things they would change here and

:56:04.:56:07.

there. The team score is massive, and it is about who is cleaning,

:56:08.:56:13.

yes, we had one mistake, but Russia had four. What is going to be the

:56:14.:56:20.

key in catching America? It just seems impossible. I think, at the

:56:21.:56:27.

moment, they are on catchable, especially with Simone Biles, but

:56:28.:56:35.

looking forward, and if we can look towards the silver medal, that would

:56:36.:56:39.

be the next step. Your thoughts? They are in a league of their own,

:56:40.:56:43.

and the differences Simone Biles, it she is scoring so far ahead of any

:56:44.:56:47.

other gymnast and straightaway they have the advantage. But Great

:56:48.:56:52.

Britain, they can be pushing, and ten years ago we were not even

:56:53.:56:56.

considering a team final, and now in Glasgow we have made history by

:56:57.:57:02.

picking up the bronze medal. It is like thinking back to Craig in

:57:03.:57:05.

Sydney, at the Olympics, he was the only one. Yes, he was the only one

:57:06.:57:11.

for the man, but we have ever had the opportunity to even fight for a

:57:12.:57:14.

medal and we were so pleased to even be there. And now we

:57:15.:57:18.

medal and we were so pleased to even to the next level and we are always

:57:19.:57:21.

chasing the top four. It was a constant battle, Russia and us,

:57:22.:57:25.

chasing the top four. It was a China, they also had a great day. We

:57:26.:57:28.

have China, they also had a great day. We

:57:29.:57:30.

forward to tomorrow. The pressure China, they also had a great day. We

:57:31.:57:35.

now on the boys. Definitely, hopefully we can repeat what the

:57:36.:57:38.

girls have done today, and obviously we had a great qualification, so if

:57:39.:57:41.

we can do the same and keep we had a great qualification, so if

:57:42.:57:44.

heads clear, we can go and fight for a medal. Talking of quality, it has

:57:45.:57:50.

been very difficult, to get qualification for that team, you

:57:51.:57:56.

were in the running? Definitely. We have 12 - 15 boys fighting for the

:57:57.:57:59.

team at the moment, it is so hard to make the team, but the boys that

:58:00.:58:04.

have made it, it was the right choice, they have shown it in

:58:05.:58:07.

qualification, getting that spot for Rio and I hope they can push on in

:58:08.:58:13.

the team final. We cannot show you the medal ceremony and BBC Two, but

:58:14.:58:18.

we will have more chat and reaction on the internet connected TV.

:58:19.:58:28.

Samaraweera bring your highlights of the first hour of competition of the

:58:29.:58:33.

men's team final -- tomorrow we will bring you highlights. And then we

:58:34.:58:36.

will be live for the rest of the evening. What an evening we have

:58:37.:58:41.

had, well done to the British women, they have made history.

:58:42.:59:00.

COMMENTATOR: That is a bronze medal for Great Britain! Unbelievable.
