Now it is 144th year, this is the oldest known international rugby

fixture in the world. A rivalry between east and west has been

regularly fought over. Today, the contest is as keen as it has ever

been. Yes, Pro12 points and potential Six Nations places up for

grabs, but a full-bloodied win over the rival is a way to see the old

year out. It is Edinburgh against Glasgow.

Hello. A very warm welcome to Murrayfield and a very merry

Christmas from us. It is an awful day, isn't it? It is a stinker of a

day here. If row are on your sofa you are in the best place. We are

track-side for a match, which I am looking forward, in particular the

match up between these two sides. In the about sense of a national trial

this is it. You go through the whole team, there is great match-ups

across the pitch. There is some implications for the national team,

some don't. Blair Kinghorn has merged this year, he really been

impressive. Blair Kinghorn has got it in the

future. Then through to Duncan Weir and Finn Russell. His old mentor, if

you like, when they were together at Glasgow. You have Alasdair

Dickinson, not going for the same international shirt. They are

literally head-to-head at scrum time. For me, the match-up I am

looking forward to is the openside, Hamish Watson.

There'll be real fireworks. We have spoken a lot about Hamish

He was the first name in the Scottish team shirt last year. He's

been outstanding. Whoever wins that battle might go a long way to

determine who wins the game. Who will win the game? Glasgow should.

They have the better players. How will it go? There's no doubt

Edinburgh have it over Glasgow. They have raised their game over the

years. Glasgow are the better team, so they have for the past couple of

years. They seem to raise their game, Edinburgh, to play against

Glasgow. If they have got the power to stop Glasgow, but you have to do

that for the full time. If they don't, then Glasgow get their

off-load, if they get their off-load, then I would say that

Glasgow will do it. It should be a cracking game.

THE COMMENTATOR: You can dress it up anyway you want. Line up the head to

heads and put the points on the table. It is the 1872 Cup. It is a

possible five points and it is a boxing day battle. Bitterly cold

here. Glasgow have arrived on the end of a three-game losing sequence.

Edinburgh have won the last three of these clashes. They need to play for

80 minutes for once in their lives. Something has to give. It will be

raw and this is the team for Glasgow:

Edinburgh in no hurry. Special for two players today, one who will lead

them out, it is the turn for Tom Brown. Who made his debut against

Leinster in 2010 for the Red and Blacks. 17 tries so far.

An outstanding defensive contribution in this match last

year, with some heroic defending for Edinburgh. Led out by the captain.

Edinburgh winning the propaganda war, with two resignings this week.

To Glasgow's one. The trophy there has been placed on the plinth. It

will not be decided, of course, until May. Around 22 of this

championship. Thissed, the Edinburgh team.

Plenty of options for both teams also on the benches.

Lamont is the most experienced oh of the Glasgow players. The referee is

a financial adviser, Ian Davis takes charge.

Duncan Weir knows a thing or two about Glasgow and he will start this

game going it is east verses west and all of the rest that that

entails. And Chris Paterson, we can rip up

the form book. They will want to play to their own systems. It is a

beauty of a Derby. Two teams in attacking form. Both against fresh

opposition. Three wins out over four for the combined. Glasgow will be

disappointed not to take their first kick-off. Gray couldn't get his

hands on the ball. Glasgow have burst through.

And boot to ball. That is a terrific kick. It is holding up.

Kinghorn has to be very careful. Oh! A horrendous mistake and Blair

Kinghorn has given first touch to Glasgow. They could not have asked

for a better start in the first minute of the game. It is under the

first minute, isn't it? Junior Bulumakau's surprise inclugs for

some. He is on and scored within 60 seconds.

Blair Kinghorn will be disappointed with that. He slides on to the ball.

First to react, Junior Bulumakau. An easy touch for him. He's chased

hard. He's reacted first. First blood to Glasgow. Big Junior can

hardly believe it. See the expression on his face. There It was

almost apologetic. It was Edinburgh's throw into the line-out.

It was one, I think it was Brian Alainu'uese who took it forward.

Attacking situation for Glasgow to move the ball wide, Alex. By putting

the ball through and then the reaction of Bulumakau, he gets the

first try. Hugely positive start to Glasgow's

effort. Finn Russell with a chance for two more.

Just pulled it past the post. Didn't give it enough. Difficult kicking

conditions. The wind is up and down. It is really testing. That kick put

through was a kick to nothing in a wasmt. It was excellent from being

in a defensive position into an attacking position. Don't forget

Blair Kinghorn is expecting that ball from the line-out. He's got to

react. 5-0, Glasgow lead. We have two

minutes and 40-odd seconds on the clock. Edinburgh rocked on their

heels. Just interestingly there Blair Kinghorn was drawn out of

position and had to make up so much ground to get back.

It all stemmed from the line-out. Didn't contest last year to any

great effect. They have stamped their authority in this opening

exchange. Edinburgh have not had their hands

on the ball. To Bennett's hands. Edinburgh trying

to hold him up. And a penalty to Edinburgh.

A chance to get their hands on the ball.

Made some ground. Yes, first penalty going against Glasgow. They've had

all the possession. They have manufactured it where they work it

well and a critical position as well. It is a time for Edinburgh to

go to the touchline and build some possession of their own. At the

moment they are doing all the defending. Glasgow are looking very

comfortable, ball in hand. Duncan Weir... Up just dwrond 202-metre

line. -- just beyond the 22-metre line.

So an interesting challenge amongst the head-to-heads here. Grant

Gilchrist there, number five and Jonny Gray. He's ripped up the stat

books. Edinburgh trying to create a

platform here at pace. Phil Burleigh, solid white wall in front

of him. Just managing to get a little bit of

a feel for the ball now, Edinburgh. Favaro up against the line. A few

phases now for the first time. Takes a bit of stopping. Jonny Gray

eventually. Advantage to Edinburgh. They have a

shot at nothing here. Edinburgh using the chance to run

it. They still have the advantage, Ian

Davis allowing them to try and open a gap here. Won't allow it much

longer. He'll stop it now for sure. That will give a chance, a quick

look there whether it was worth going on. At this stage, Chris,

there would only be one decision really and that would be get some

points on the board. Glasgow's defence was good. They were putting

a lot of pressure on the break down. Because Edinburgh kept the ball,

moved left and right, they have got their opportunity. They will hand to

the touchline. I was standing here in the corner and unfortunately

Blair Kinghorn, the commentator's curse before the game, he didn't get

his body down there. It was a basic mistake. I suppose we talked about

Hamish Watson, we have seen his impact, Edinburgh have responded

well to conceding that early try. Duncan Weir with a chance to put

Edinburgh on the board. Easily done. They have got

themselves on the board. Got some territory. They are now 3-5. Eight

minutes played. Pretty much as you would expect

apart from that electrifying start. Edinburgh will be more comfortable

now. After that sustained period of possession. They did move the

Glasgow defence, they attacked in the middle, at the edges. There may

be added advantage, a little bit of drizzle before the game I makes it

so difficult for the ball passer to present the ball. It will be

difficult for the referee as well. Finn Russell goes a bit longer than

normal. Ian Davis comes in on Edinburgh's

side there. We said how much competition at the break down, we

can hear the referee. Back you go. He said the hands came

in. I am not sure I agree with that. Fantastic tackle. First up by Dunbar

under Ford and driving him back. He pops to his feet.

Dunbar didn't release the ball. Gray came from the side. That is a free

ball. Very entitled to go to that. Alex Dunbar had his feet driven over

the ball. The net result is another line-out for him. And Duncan Weir

has squeezed that one over the line. Slide rule precision. That is a good

kick in bustling conditions, wasn't it? Right over to the Glasgow

10-metre line. The east stand is affected more by

the wind here. Glasgow have it. I guess Russell

again. Well, just nerves all around now,

Chris, now that it is settled. A contradiction... This is a

set-piece move. You can see peeling out looking for Burleigh to come on

to it. It is a move they have obviously identified the work in

that area. But like a lot of these things which happen in training, the

match will be slightly different and Phil Burleigh got ahead of the ball.

Hamish Watson tried to give the pass and it was knocked on. So, that was

a set-piece move. It didn't go well. And Glasgow, they have the

opportunity for a first scrum. First scrum. I so much expected the front

rows and the front five. We will see how this one goes. Andy Nichol

choose Watson, that particular head-to-head there... You can go

through the team, but what is your pick of the contest? I think they

are both important players for the team. Hamish Watson, we have seen

his ball carrying ability. He's not the biggest number seven; but must

be one of the strongest. He's got a strong back and chest. Players often

try to tackle Brown. That man is the opposite. He's a destructive

defender. He puts so much pressure on opposition tens. So players vital

in their own ways for the teams they play for and both outstanding

internationals. Edinburgh slightly narrower in the

back line. A defensive set up at the moment. Russell, again good to ball.

Chip over. That's a good kick again.

Precision. Seems to be putting his foot on the

ball a lot this time. . He has. And whether that is something I have

identified, traditionally Edinburgh have three players back. That was an

suptional kick from Russell. -- an exceptional kick from Russell.

It was like a game of cat and mouse. It was an excellent kick. They are

kicking very well so far, Glasgow. Gilchrist, the back hand. Tipped up,

tidied up. Lots of appealing. That is to no

avail. Duncan Weir, just evaded Finn

Russell there. Another stab at it.

They keep it tight. Lots of pressure on the tens, both

tens being targeted, clearly. Surprise, surprise. Good people,

good players. They drove each other on in Glasgow. They'll have one or

two during the game. You can read the pair of them.

They are having a bit of fun. But you know Duncan will say I have

charged you down and Finn will say, I will get back to you. There's so

much pressure on the break down that that pass to the ten is putting them

under more pressure. Russell again. This time it is off. Behind Dunbar.

But Edinburgh have defended that well. Coming in from the side.

That's twice Glasgow again, penalised by Ian Davis.

just op the Finn Russell. You can see how confident he's got now.

Back-to-back Man of the Match performances in when he was against

Dan Carter. How he started in the first 13 minutes, he's got

confidence. All the repertoire of his kicking in there. It is great to

see. Edinburgh very deliberate in their

set-up at the touch-line. Seem to have sorted it out from the

first line-out, which led to the score. The commentator's curse

didn't go away that time. Clear out and then Glasgow thought

they had it, but haven't. Here they come on the left.

Glasgow have it. Russell, he didn't get the kick away. He was watching

and it enveloped him. Being hit by a tornado.

Now we have Strauss inside. A good ball, kick ahead. That may be a high

tackle there. They may go back for that. Mark Bennett, I don't think

anything will come of that, unless the assistance referee and the touch

has not given Ian Davis any cause for... This is the end of it. This

is where Mark Bennett puts the BA and you know what, under the new

guidelines, anything that makes any contact with any part of the head,

whether the initial tackle was below the shoulder, a wee bit lucky to

avoid a penalty. Under the new regulations. There's no malice in

it. Prior to that there are some good transitional play from Glasgow.

Edinburgh, made a good break on the left-hand side. Popped in the hands

and Glasgow looking to attack. Plenty of variety in the Glasgow

attack. The Edinburgh attack has been a bit more straightforward.

It is still anyone's game. Two-point game.

Scrum black. No real rhythm to the game yet. I

think that's, we keep saying it, we go back to the pressure, but a good

first phase move and a good carry by Phil Burleigh. Finn Russell making

the low tackle. Then you can see that space is created for Tom Brown.

Josh Strauss's tackle, putting on pressure.

In and around that break down area. That is what is stifling in many

ways around the game. That is the full time score there,

Cardiff Blues have won by 27-16 against Dragons. They don't overtake

Glasgow at all. It is a four-point win. So that leaves them still in

seventh place, Cardiff, just one point behind Glasgow. That is the

up-to-date position. No margin of error for either. Take everything

else out of the game here, Chris, the championship position is

critical for both teams. Edinburgh cannot afford to drop off any

further. Glasgow in sixth and 27 points.

Edinburgh ten and 14 points. For all the Derby it is still worth league

points. It will be vital come the end of the season.

The ball's playable. A good incisive break. This time up

the middle. They have man over. Du Preez could have released it

earlier. Took the tackle. Edinburgh have spilled it.

But again that three-plan move up the inside, it is working nearly

every time. This This is how to attack. Such an aggressive defender.

Duncan Weir knows he's coming. He knows he will have to take it for

the team. An excellent outturn angle.

Runs at the space, not at the man and there is a knock-on, just as

Cornell du Preez tries to force the pass away. He would hold on to it.

You put your opposition under pressure. He's just desperate to

play. That was a really good example of managing a defender who comes out

of the line quickly. Clearly there is a big gap there.

They have identified it twice now. So third time lucky it may come off.

It is so difficult. You often hear commentators and coaches, players

saying from a defensive point of view if the person inside you in the

defensive line steps in or flies in, you go with him. When it is done so

quickly, so difficult for his team-mates to react. It is part of

what he does. And it comes off more than it goes badly. It will not

change because he's such an aggressive defender. Edinburgh

played that well. For Edinburgh though, they have more

of the ball and there is the flag on the stand opposite us. It is

drifting now and again. Not to any great extent but as Chris pointed

out there is more of an effect in kicking terms. Glasgow have kicked

possibly more than we are used to seeing this season so far.

Russell has some space. Takes it on himself, but slides out. And again

that little show... Plenty of adventure. Chris, that is me saying

he's kicking it all the time and off he goes. In the centre with that hat

on, the coach. There's a win. There he S and that's a win for Edinburgh

there. They gave Glasgow the space to run into. And worked hard enough

to cover Finn Russell's tackle. Just a bit untidy with the delivery.

Not quick enough. Duncan Weir launches. That is care

rying in the -- carrying in the wind. The wind favouring that side.

The referee is coming back for the penalty in the middle.

Time off. No, I think we're going to get an electionure.

Captain Gray. 560. Next infringement you lose a

player. Player in the air. The player is on the floor. Gone

underneath him. Just be careful. Five or six penalties to zero. That

plays on a referee's mind all the time because it is one-way traffic,

isn't it? It is counting heavily in Edinburgh's favour at the moment.

That is a direct result of the possession Edinburgh have had of

that frantic opening two minutes. Glasgow have not had any territory.

You are more likely to concede penalties if you are defending and

Glasgow do a lot of defending. It was good to ask Jonny Gray what was

it for. The lifter has gone underneath him. You see here.

Well, I think we see that more often go unpunished. That was the shape of

the body movement in there. Toolis caught knit his --ed. Contortded in

the air. -- Toolis caught it in his body. Contorted in the air.

That was way over the tail. Now Glasgow have it. And they have to

take it back in. Toolis launches it up almost cert

tally. McKenzie the referee took a stiff

arm there are, I think the referee is going to take action.

a tackle. You have to make a far greater effort. The attack for

Edinburgh is not going to make it easy. He is trying to get out of

there. It is almost, after the warning, but if you have to make

yourself doubly animated to get in. To get back in the right side really

quickly. I don't think he was trying too hard. He was trying. You've got

to look like you are trying. You got to get out of there and it promotes

positive rugby, it is a really good law, I have got to support it, get

out of there and let the attackers play.

Straightforward for Duncan Weir. Ahead, 6-5, 20 2.5 minutes played,

Glasgow down to 14 men. Let's go down to Andy Nicol. This is very

similar to the last couple of years here, Glasgow had a good start,

power game, affected in the last couple of years, allowing Edinburgh

to take the lead, and down. -- 22.5 minutes. We have seen this before,

Edinburgh have themselves back in the game, probably due to the ill

discipline. Building up a head of steam but not

arriving exactly on time. Drifts infield. Huge black wall.

Diving through, still engaged. Exchanging pleasantries with Duncan

Weir. Awful lot of chitchat going on. Take the players, the referee is

not responding. Bound to be getting tired of that eventually. Here come

Glasgow again. Jonny Gray. Had to go on his knee is virtually

for that one, and Strauss is batted to the ground. Good pass. Quick

tackle again from Burley. Screams down there. Not the ball out. In

tense game that Edinburgh have brought the table all of a sudden.

Very good defence, looking to go down the right side -- short side.

Cut off the past. Another chat here. Situation is arising where players

are grabbing players, pulling into the rock, tackling on the wrong

side, trying to buy penalties. Stop that now. Otherwise we are going to

lose more players. Get on with it. I think it has been said, he has

become fed up, nipped too often, stuff going on, not... Not making

the referee's task very simple at this stage. Is he being too

pernickety? No, you have got to make it as difficult for the referee as

possible, in some way 's. Don't try to pull the wool over my eyes, he is

saying. Don't pull players in. That is good refereeing, he is showing

that he knows what they are trying to do to influence the game. Just be

disciplined and be honest and we will have a decent game.

Work up, stay up. Just to confirm, a change on the Glasgow side, Brian

Grant has come on. Glasgow front row had to be reorganised. Ryan Grant

has come on. Glasgow have sacrificed Simone Favaro. 11 of these 18 cup

You are looking for a double workrate from him. Glasgow have gone

with seven men in this. Full-back to defend against. Could be unnerving.

They have a penalty coming. Click to nothing there. Hidalgo-Clyne. All of

a sudden, Edinburgh have the upper hand. Quite clearly. They will be

wanting the make the most of this one-man advantage. Managed it well,

advantage. -- Edinburgh. Defence has been outstanding. The line has

struggled once or twice. I'm surprised that Glasgow opted to

scrum. With seven players as opposed to eight, and then try to pick up

the space. A lot of different opinions but the general trend is,

deal with the first threat first. You don't have to be a rocket

scientist to figure out what is going to happen here. Even though it

is a wide scrum, and there is a lot of space for them to defend, make

Edinburgh work harder. To win the ball, rather than just give them it.

Amazingly, Leon Kinghorn has not touched the ball since the first

minute of the game when he got himself into a spot of bother. --

Blair Kinghorn. If the ball does come out, he can stretch Glasgow,

batter them up front or swing it. Two where Tom Brown and Blair

Kinghorn are waiting. Taking them on up front. Still connected. Glasgow

counter. Bradbury takes. Bradbury still going. Strauss turns him.

Hidalgo-Clyne has got it. Here they come again. Building it up, cranking

up the pressure to go the other way. Extra man, Glasgow have it covered.

Referee is on them again. Two on one. Down they go. Dickinson.

Cornell du Preez going straight for it. Danger and now that has gone

adrift. Edinburgh have to go all the way back here. Tom Brown. Nothing

ambitious. Esteemed attack. Jonny Gray, one or

two of The Other Guys, a whole see of it. These bibs coming on,

attending to the players. You can see them coming on because that was

a brutal two or three minute period of sustained attack by Edinburgh.

And defensive play from Glasgow that ultimately ended in a mistake.

Forced pass, I don't think he needed to give the pass. Soak up a lot of

the pressure. Line speed was not as good as it could have been, because

of the tiredness. Let's see what Andy Nichol is making of it all.

Some contest. Edinburgh still have the power game going, not doing

badly with the extra man but no points yet. Still a lot of mistakes,

no sign of this becoming a great game. A lot of afters, a lot of

tackles going through. Chris knows all about this fixture. Speech play

between the players. Always happens. At the moment we need to have the

quality of the performance raise to get a much better game here. I have

to say, Chris Paterson wildly taken aback by that dreadful accusation.

LAUGHTER I can remember Andy and I, once

having words about that. The referee pulled me over, Andy had told the

referee what I had done, I couldn't think of saying anything other than,

yes, I did! For once they breach the gain line.

Making progress, still a man down. Took a gamble. Juggling, and then

the kick ahead. This time, Blair Kinghorn... Has sent it as far as he

can. It has only gone out, five, ten metres beyond the 22 metre line, he

had to make sure because it is all very ragged. That was a piece of

quality, we have just been saying how many mistakes have been

committed in the first 50 minutes, that was a quality piece of attack.

Wonderful decision not to throw the past, would have been intercepted.

Some real quality. It was well covered by Blair Kinghorn. Edinburgh

leading 6-5, 30 minutes gone. They didn't steal that, that was a gift.

Another slack rope. Here they come, Edinburgh, they have men over, if

they can movable quickly, this time the penalty comes to Glasgow. That

is a get out of jail card. That was good. Winning the penalty, making

the tackle, popping back to his feet. Holding on, Hamish Watson

penalised for holding on. Carried the ball so well, often gets away

from his support, and this is Ross Ford, this time. Being tackled. You

can see the number 12, right over the ball. Cannot clear him out.

Thought it was Hamish that carried, it was not. It was Ford who had

carried the ball. Welcome relief for Glasgow to get a penalty, they have

not been able to affect the game through territory due to that lack

of penalty. Now we have a change. Ryan Grant, 17, coming off. Sin-bin

solution. Had to pull strength. Little debate, between Finn Russell

and possibly asking the question of Stuart Holm, was it worth a pop, we

know that he can kick that far, at this stage in the game, maybe not,

going for territory, instead, knowing that the other man was

coming back on. They have an advantage coming again. -- Stuart

Hogg. Information that Simone Favaro has rejoined the fray. This time the

bounce beats them all, Edinburgh have it. Worth a shot, worth a

clever little shot of the outside of the boat. Absolutely, too often,

they kick to nothing, goes on a penalty, they do it automatically,

that is well thought out, if the bounce of the ball goes, then under

pressure, Tom Brown, working well, covering the ball, picking it up,

Glasgow have put it into the corner for the penalty. A change, Alistair

Dickinson has come off, Allan Dell, 17 has come on. Just whether that is

a recurrence of an injury, we saw Dickinson going down in midfield. --

Alasdair Dickinson. Very tight here, very tight, they have punched a hole

through. If they bring this down, the penalty is coming anyway. Five

metres. Glasgow patiently dies in, they know they have men there. Going

for the line. Maybe three metres now. They are over. CHEERING

Josh Strauss. Josh Strauss, and some situation with speaking to them

Edinburgh captain. Discipline in the middle. That could very well have

been a card. Just stating that two Grant Gilchrist, this is wonderfully

created by Glasgow. Through to the line-out, shifted the ball really

quickly, and that was about, 30 seconds later, Strauss blasting

through the middle, making sure of it. Here is the end again, burrowing

underneath Cornell du Preez after all of the hard work, well created,

well built. So difficult to stop him doing all he could. That is why he

was given a warning. Josh Strauss is delighted. Twice in that corner,

Glasgow, and twice they have come away with full points. The chance,

from Finn Russell. Two more. Takes his time, again, slight scuff,

neat and straight. Glasgow have now got the lead. Edinburgh six, Glasgow

12, right in front of you. Great composure. Came back to 15 men, Alex

Salmond came back on and they scored immediately, they will be pleased

that they are six points up having been down to 14 men, they have

reacted well. Not long left in this first half, Jonny Gray, clean as a

whistle. -- Alex Allan. Begin to go down a marker, I wonder here, and

again, patience, and Edinburgh have to be very careful. He's OK there.

Tearing through the middle. Again, pumping forward, Glasgow. Russell.

Trying something. Move it quickly. Zander Fagerson labouring, looks

like he has taken a dent or two. Isn't exactly going to arrive early

for that. It has been desperately broken, really, flashes of good play

and organisation, and I am right... That is the nature of the Derby, the

players know it other so well. Suffocating. It means so much to

them and it is suffocating. A lot of pressure on the referee. Some of the

touches of quality have had to have been outstanding and that was

another excellent drive. Took the kick-off, drove them back, as a

result, the guys exhausted, needed medical treatment. I must admit, the

game is ebbing and flowing. Darted with Glasgow, Edinburgh came back,

managed it really well, Glasgow down to 14 men, and then when they went

back to 15 men, they have now ebbed ahead. So little between a lot of

the individuals. As the coaching staff work on, it will be

interesting to see what the messages are at half-time, how that

contrasted to Gregor Townsend, what Hodge has got to say, because both

have had good first halfs, and disappointed. Glasgow will be the

happier, leading, if they can sustain that, for the next three

minutes or thereabouts, big scrum here. One more score before

half-time could alter the course of the match completely. In behind

Duncan Reid. If we get a quality scrum... Once you have seen -- which

we have seen capable being capable of doing already. Glasgow have three

defenders in the backfill. Glasgow 947 kilograms, Edinburgh, 980.

According to the books. I think they have managed the scrum quite well,

the time it has gone down, the ball was at the back in the Edinburgh

procession, told them just to play it. -- possession. Other than the

wonder was dominant by Edinburgh, we will see how this one goes. Thank

you. Pretty clear penalty. On the tight head side. Going down really

quickly. In and down, really quickly. I did say it was a big

scrum, not so much the scrum, the outcome, the outcome is, Glasgow

have got themselves, engineered themselves into perfect attacking

position. Their favourite corner. The challenge here, for Edinburgh,

do they go up and stop it, or do they expect to drive and get in

behind? One it handsomely. Two of the best line-out jumpers in the

country, Gilchrist and Jonny Gray having a fantastic time. -- won it

handsomely. Extremely well taken considering the circumstances.

Bravery personified. Going in low, skidding on the surface. Used the

skid to good effect. To make sure that he killed the ball. Testing

couple of minutes for Edinburgh particularly, will not want to

concede anymore. Six point differential at this stage. Russell.

Spins it out, to Harley. Still driving. Was not held, he can carry

on. Again, more afters on this is the referee coming in, to separate.

Separate these two blacks against one white. Done and dusted, here

they come again. He can take them all here, he is on his own... No,

isolated, did well to hold it. That little sevens skip, back they come.

Big drive from Glasgow now. Edinburgh have two tie it up. In the

last minute, 30 seconds to defend. -- Edinburgh have to tie it up.

Going left, straightening up, Hamish Watson. Strauss is down injured.

Just carrying himself. Advantage to Glasgow. Nearly five metres out.

Edinburgh almost ripped it. Simone Favaro juggles and once again,

breaks down, almost got it. It is one of these incidents where Ian

Davies spotted a hand pulling a Glasgow player back.

If you didn't quite catch that exchange, it was the Jonny Gray

asked the referee if it was a professional foul. He said he was

not convinced... Much more of a debate these days, between players

and the referee. Does not go down well in some quarters. I think it is

good refereeing, from my experience as a player, if a referee...

INAUDIBLE ... They have built up this wall, it is

frustrating, that is good, as long as he has a firm line, and he has

the ultimate say, which she does, and is not influenced, that is

really good. To way. As long as they have the understanding. -- two way.

The number of penalties succeeded in succession. Asking the question

about the yellow card. Tripped over the points. Finn Russell has been

one of the shining lights. Came from Macau, in the first minute, when he

capitalised on a slip. 2-0, for Glasgow, it was almost a speculative

kick, but in fact it was much clearer than that. Pummelled the

ball up, and Blair Kinghorn made a hash of it and he could not believe

his luck, Santa had come again. And eventually they contrived a space

and a drilling through the middle was Josh Strauss, flopping the ball

down, and that eventually put a Glasgow home and dry half-time. So

far, 6-15. STUDIO: Interesting first 40 minutes

of rugby, not the best, whether is not great, tense affair, Glasgow

coming out. It is tense, there has been a lot of niggles, a lot of

tenseness, big hits, lacking quality, the accuracy was not there.

You want that nickel, it is a derby, due want to see the quality as well.

Better than what we saw for the first 35 minutes. Glasgow have had

the quality, we saw that, nine points up, probably deserve that,

but Edinburgh needed to defend it, they got the try which Glasgow

should have said right at the end, and this game could have been over,

19-6. -- should have got. Glasgow went down to 14 men, indiscipline in

the first half, and put some points on the board, maybe not another.

This was, it was a really early start for Glasgow, Alex Dunbar put

this long kick, which looked speculative, never thought it was

going to be a try making kick, but Blair Kinghorn, that is bread and

butter, seated from behind, Junior follows it up, sometimes you chase

and jays and jays and nothing comes off, you could see here, good play

by Glasgow to get it round, big long kick. Blair Kinghorn just gets his

angles wrong. Doesn't get his body down. His right knee, then knocked

it over the try line. -- Junior Bulumakau. And Bulumakau takes it. I

took him up before the game, it is certainly not the best start for

Blair Kinghorn but he has come back since then. Mentioned him at the

start, solid player, but that is a tough one, playing at Murrayfield

against Glasgow, first thing you do, you make a mistake, tough thing to

come back from. We did not see him or hear him, just been stewing away,

knowing that on the big stage like this, live on television, has made a

mistake. Young kid, he has got a comeback, he is class. Getting back

into the game with a couple of penalties from Duncan Weir but

Glasgow showed their superiority with a try from Josh Strauss. The

Edinburgh side have strong forward by Glasgow have shown their power.

What was good about this, composure. Look at this, a good 20, 18, 20

yards out. Obviously we have fast forwarded, it rumbled on for quite a

while. Josh Strauss has his hands on the ball, like in the middle, great

awareness of where the try line is, skewing left, penalty advantage, he

does not know that but he comes through, you can see, and we see it

from a different angle, he is right in the middle of this, he knows

where it is and where the try line is and where he is, very good

forward driving play. Again, just quality of that phase, which we had

not seen. Edinburgh, patches early on, Glasgow down to 14 men, did not

have the same composure at the same time and maybe that is the

difference between the two sides. Difficult to defend something like

that on your try line, but talking a wee bit about Edinburgh and the

positivity they put into the match. You mentioned Hamish, before the

game, and how great he has been for Edinburgh all year, what you his

performance has been like in the first 40? That is what Hamish Watson

does, gets the ball, runs hard and straight. Good bit of play that

Edinburgh put together, getting in behind. This probably summed up the

first half, got in behind, if you recycle the ball, fantastic ball,

Frankfurt, defence disorganised. Unfortunately, du Preez has knocked

it on. Unfortunate. Good setup play, but not the final execution and

accuracy required. That is the difference between the two sides.

You said the head-to-head, Hamish Watson over Simone Favaro, whose

head is higher at the moment. Probably an even contest at the

moment, Hamish Watson, we have seen more in attack, but Simone Favaro

has made some good hits. This is what he does well, gets the ball in

the middle, cross, straight into Finn Russell, bounces off. That is

what he does, look out for behind he's getting into the defence. I

would say that Hamish Watson probably shading it. Simone Favaro

will say, look at the scoreline. We have talked about Adam and Glasgow

and the difference between them, Glasgow quite clearly have better

players. -- Edinburgh and Glasgow. Glasgow looking to get into the

Pro12 play-offs as they have done frequently, but Edinburgh have to do

what in the second half, to get rug under Glasgow? It is about what

happens next, when you have the defence on the back foot, when it is

disorganised and not all settle, Lasko have good line speed, but in a

disorganised position, very hard to get that line speed. -- Glasgow have

good line speed. They need the execution and the accuracy and the

right players making the right decisions. They can do it but they

have not done it so far. This match is like a Scotland trial

for the Glasgow and Edinburgh players. Then Scotland against

Ireland, the first match in February.

Who do you think is sticking their head above the pulpit from a

Scottish sort of point of view? Well, here tonight, it is hard to

say. It has been, there's been too many... Look at the fixtures for me.

That first game is everything. Scotland, and Ireland have good

autumn tests. Ireland beat New Zealand and that was phenomenal.

Your whole Six Nations is depending on that first game. If we have not

done well in the first game, we have only one opening fixture in a Six

Nations, which is astonishing. It is all about momentum. If we can get

that against Ireland and win it with three home games here, then I can

see Scotland being competitive. If Scotland don't win, then we have

France away. We know how tough that is as well. Scotland's six nations

is dependant on that first game. It is quite interesting as well because

clearly there's not any easy matches in the Six Nations, really. This is

away in France and away at Twickenham as well. I would flip

that around. We have three here. We have three home games at

Murrayfield. Scotland will do well here. They will be sell-out crowds.

Scotland have to say after the autumn test, we have to say three

games, three wins, is what we should go for in the Six Nations. If you

get three, then you are in the mix. Townsend will take over as the

national coach. Will we expect a big performance from the team to leave

on a high, or is it more important for the players to do well from

their own point of view? There is an element of both. We saw that in the

autumn. Five games less, he's done very well. We are going in the right

direction. The players are developing. There is a culture

there. It is all happening. It is a shame there is only five games left.

This team are at the start of something, not at the end of

something. The torch will be passed over to Townsend. And he will

continue that good work. I think it will be great, three games, minimum.

He will probably want more. Realistically that will be an

improvement on the last few years. If we can get three games, we'll be

happy. Do you think looking back on Vernan's tenure as coach will be

favourable? He's left Scotland in a better place than he inherited. That

is all you can do. He has developed young play years here. There are

other young players who have come through.

These young players and the depth that Scotland have is deeper. That

is not just down to him. At least he's got the courage for these guys.

Undoubtedly he is leaving Scotland in a better place than when he got

it. This is the first match, of course they will do it all on the

final day of the season, Glasgow against Edinburgh. Glasgow could

have been further ahead. Mark Bennett, who could be involved in

the Six Nations as well. This is where there was quality. This is the

last play. Berghan, got the pace. This is where Glasgow have been

outstanding in the last couple of years. Once in behind the defence

then you see the teams off. To be fair to Edinburgh they scrambled the

defence well. They were not able to turn it over. If they had, then that

could have been 19-6. That may have been game over. 15-6, Edinburgh

still in this. We have seen Edinburgh almost doing things and

they have got backs there that can do damage.

We have been shown examples of them getting in behind. That is the ball

you want for the likes of burg burg and Kinghorn to get the ball in the

space, but they have not done that. It is maybe the difference between

the two sides. You have got a side very can comorntable by playing the

phases and -- comfortable by playing the phases. It is still early in

Duncan Hodge's coaching tenure here. There's been an improvement. We have

not seen the results but the way they are playing, the atmosphere is

much better. One thing we have got, we talk about the match-ups on the

pitch, we have two Scottish coaches as well. Let's talk about the

match-up. One of the matches in the pitch is the fly-half as well,

Duncan Weir was there in Glasgow, there in Scotland. Finn Russell came

over here. You see them smiling in the game. How are they doing? Game

into commentary said Finn Russell is full of confidence after the

champion's Cup, when he got Man of the Match. He's been outstanding. It

will be interesting, I think Finn is shading it. I think both coaches

would have had to say a lot of things at half time. It would not be

one of those quiet half times. There are a lot of things which need to be

changed. Edinburgh need to get behind and use the ball they have

got. Glasgow they will say the discipline, the discipline is what

allowed Edinburgh back into the game. Get it sorted and they can win

this game. A fantastic first half so far. Let's enjoy the second half.

It has been raw. All that time, anyway, but we have had some moments

in the game, particularly in the first minute when that man, Junior

Bulumakau, capitalised on some difficult Edinburgh defending.

That put Glasgow ahead with the first score and Josh Strauss struck

with a second try. Glasgow would have been far the happier team going

in. The nine-point lead at half time

leaves them in a very good position to tackle the second half.

Glasgow are playing from right-to-left. The ball is with Finn

Russell. Not quite the length he had in the

first half, allowing his performance to get there. Quite a bit earlier.

Now all about who responds best to the half time chat.

It has been that kind of game, if you are out of it, you are out of

it. The forwards have dominated it. There have been the occasional for

rays and good runs. Ian Davis goes back.

What do you think half time chat would have been? Obviously Edinburgh

will look to try and, they will be happy with how the first half wept

in a lot of ways. They will be happy with a lot of the elements of the

defence and the variation of attack. Glasgow I don't think will be so

happy, although they are ahead and they think they will look to play

more rugly. Lee Jones obviously forcing that

knock-on from the tackle. So, I think that may be key to what you

have said. Edinburgh will do more of the same.

We move on here. Stuart Hogg has come up directly behind the scrum.

They are going to That is the way they are set up. The

two players on the left-hand side of the screen, tempting Edinburgh to

that side. Set newspaper a more traditional

form. All that speculation has been going on, it is down to the front

three. Simon Berghan, the same penalty as

there was towards the end of the first half which allowed Glasgow to

kick to the corner. Oh, that is very, very close. It is

too close. In fact, he's overcooked it. A similar penalty from Simon

Berghan. Not far enough in front of him to allow him to hold his body.

Finn Russell will be disappointed with that.

The phases which allowed them to kick their penalty. Whereas that,

that is just frustration for a player, frustrating for a coach.

Frustrating sometimes for viewers as well. We go back to the source of

the problem at the scrum. I just wonder if the wind had any

effect there. We have a howling gale behind us when the door opens behind

us. Looking at the flag on the far side, it is still the same.

It is gusty. Maybe the wind did have an effect. I don't think Russell

gave it that much, it seemed to carry and carry. That has been

charged down as well. The penalty again to Edinburgh this time.

Edinburgh driving straight. This is how it happened,

Edinburgh... Lucky for them. The play was pulled back and Duncan

Weir will... Let's see if the wind has any effect here.

Is it any easier for you Andy to interpret the wind for us? I think

these are good conditions. The wind is not a factor down at ground

level. If you put a high ball up, Chris talked about the first half,

it might have an impact, but actually at ground level it is good

conditions to play rugby in now. It's been dry, despite all the best

intentions of the forecast threatening us with rain and stuff.

This is Edinburgh... Just held on to it a bit there.

Jonny Gray picks it up, he's dropped it. A rare mistake.

This time Edinburgh trying to keep it again and it has spilled and it

is bouncing and it is bubbling. It has got the consistency of a haggis

at the moment! What is that like? Well you can see what it is like -

they can't hold it! That's not what we are used to seeing from these

guys. They are so super talented and super skilled. Their execution, the

Derby brings it out here. The pressure, the heat that's going on

the ball carrier. Everybody is trying to rip the ball out. Shuts

off the passing channels, making the decisions late. The skills have to

improve. The start was good. Some good attacking from the line-out.

After there would be four or five in a 30-second spell.

Starting again. The halfway line.

Tossed in the air by Finn Russell there.

Duncan Weir hoofs it. Up and over, through the middle and

he's on his own now. You wouldn't put it past him going the whole way.

That is the 22-metre line. If Glasgow are quick here, they have a

lot of men out here. Had so many extra men there. The

passes were not quick enough. And again could be a card here.

There is going to be a warning for Gilchrist and his crew.

On this occasion it will be a four. Offside of the line break. Starting

to mount against you, the penalty, as they were in the first half.

Sorry? This half, there have been a few on the bounce now. It's been a

while. That is exactly what I said to you.

Grant Gilchrist thought it was the first one. Jonny Gray thinks it is

the third one. So you pay your money and you take your chances.

The communication is good, but he has to be firm as well.

Two moments of star dust from the Glasgow backs.

One was Mark Bennett in the first half, that break and Stuart Hogg,

almost his first touch of the ball has come out and brought the line.

This is the end of the penalty. Playing advantage here. From the

line break. Grant Gilchrist was there.

Two or three phases before. So I think Edinburgh may be a little bit

fortunate there. That is possibly a blood injury.

We will keep an eye on that one. He's going up the tunnel. So that

could very well be a blood injury. We think it is a replacement.

Meanwhile, back to where we are, Finn Russell has not chance to put

Glasgow further ahead. Well, left a few points out on the

field last year, Chris. And that is the second one that's gone to the

outside of the post, if I can put it that way. There's just a sound in

the contact I have not found comfortable tonight.

I am not sure if it is a timing issue or what? Just a cut across, I

think it is similar to the first one, as you say, missing to the

right-hand side. The post, he'll be frustrated at that and obviously

want to acue the points, worked so hard for that penalty. I am sure

there'll be another opportunity to put it right. Here's Russell.

This time tests Duncan Weir. Sent up the line. Keeping it in

play. This is possibly dangerous for Edinburgh because Stuart Hogg this

time, this time he's got enormous height on that and Hoyland is

underneath it. This time Edinburgh move it swiftly.

Berghan off the left foot. Up the line. Russell is back. He has to be

very, very careful here. And he can't do that because he was well in

front of the mark. He can take it behind the mark, not

ten yards in front of it. Quite simple. You cannot go ten

metres in front. Another change for Glasgow.

Sila Puafisi comes on. Fagerson has been one of the key

guys for Glasgow. He's put his body over the top of the ball to disrupt

Edinburgh's possession. He picked up a knock in the first half on his

shoulder or neck. A good attacking opportunity for

Edinburgh here. The scrum decide the Glasgow 22... Tom brown and his

100th appearance. What they will try and do then with

players as far as two or three players, each Glasgow defender, the

defenders make really tough decisions. Three players close

together trying to put pressure. Glasgow matching that with a

straight line of four defenders and two behind them.

A good drive by Edinburgh. They have turned Glasgow right

around there. And no complaints either from

Glasgow. They knew they were taken on there.

What he's saying is Glasgow are stepping around and pushing across.

Puafisi fresh off the bench. I didn't think there was much in that

scrum. I thought it was a pretty competitive scrum. A reset, a more

accurate outcome from that, because there was a lot of pressure. Both

trying to put the scrum straight, the penalty is awarded to Edinburgh.

A reasonable choice I would say in the circumstances: Just to take the

points if you can. Keep in touch. I think so.

Duncan Weir, then. Two penalties in the first half from

his better side, you would imagine. 25 metres out.

Drives it. Straight and through the post.

Another three points for Duncan Weir. Let's have a view from Andy.

Glasgow dominated the almost 13 minutes of the second half. With a

missed penalty there, now Edinburgh are right back in it. That is where

a team like Glasgow, more clinical, they could have finished it up. They

could really make this difficult for Glasgow in the last, what 30 minutes

or so. An awful lot of rugby still to come.

9-15, in the favour of Glasgow. Gilchrist, head down, off he goes.

Off his boot laces there. Didn't quite get a handle on the

kick either because of that. Remarkably well Duncan Weir to get

down. Even for a wee guy, he didn't have

far to go. That was right off his boot laces.

Under pressure, at pace as well. Still managed to get time to get his

kick away. Duncan Weir, the wind did get up at

that point. Did well. The line-up is OutRage! Side Edinburgh's 22.

-- is outside. Edinburgh's 22.

They have managed to recycle it. Didn't quite work.

Russell... Back to Bennett... Glasgow beginning now to get their

hands on the ball again. They will have to try something

different. Russell again. Skips inside. He was looking for

Alainu'uese, who is miles away. Straight through the middle. That

was fine, I think. Edinburgh almost stalled it there. They did. And

illegally... One steal, two steal and you're holding on.

I think the first part of that was well done. The pressure on the ball

won the turnover. Lost his feet thereafter and had to make the

effort to move. Another Glasgow change here.

Pat McArthur is coming on. This is how it happened.

Already executed a good piece of play to win the ball from the

turnover. Then as he went to present the ball and was penalised for

holding on and had to get out of there.

Well, he asked to play on because the ball moved.

He's put it over, anyway. Well, the ball did move and quick

thinking. Absolutely electric, mental gymnastics there from Finn

Russell. He realised he had to play it and he did and he then dropped it

over. Obviously don't have anybody charging you for a penalty. Still

had to come out. 90 seconds to kick it. You have to pick it up. Drop it

was calmness personified. Excellent skill.

It deserves a three points. A remarkable score from Finn Russell

there. That will be a pub quiz for a few years to come. What happened

when... And if we might get a look at that again later on, but that was

a remarkable incident in the game. We have a change for Glasgow.

Art McArthur has come on. At number 16.

Fusaro has come back on. He's come on in place of Chris Fusaro.

Hoyland goes. That little skip and there is a

Glasgow player injured. Hoyland digs in. A quick pass out.

All over the place. Berghan almost forward.

Kinghorn... The Glasgow fans don't like that pass. On the far side they

are howling to the referee. It is too late now.

Screaming towards the line here. Bradbury, for the first time, cuts

lose. And Glasgow player still being

tended at halfway, but Edinburgh have it. Ten metres out.

They have a penalty coming address well. They go left.

Tom Brown, the Centurion. Penalty... It is Lee Jones coming

in. And it's just having a look to see

what is happening with the injury there. The play has been stopped for

the penalty. This is the injury in mid-field which doesn't look too

good because the play is about two or three phases back from where we

are now. And the penalty has been given. We

rejoin it. This is how it happened. It was the tackle, the tackle, the

player obviously in some distress there. He'll obviously have to leave

the field, if nothing else for a head injury assessment. There will

not be a doubt in that at all. He certainly came up the line very

quickly. It is great to see him on his feet.

He is not well. There is a clear shaking of heads

there from both assistants with him. He knows himself. Just the way he

went into the tackle and Sean Lamont comes on. 23.

And thereafter some, innovative Edinburgh attack, from right, a bit

of ground. Sean Lamont getting words of advise from Duncan Weir. And the

net eresult was number five, I think it was either Jonny Gray that was

penalised, and the net result is Duncan Weir has an opportunity for

another three points to cancel out Finn ses Finn's drop ball.

Duncan Weir meanwhile keeps pegging Glasgow back.

He was off and running, just about before he hit the ball. He's got the

rhythm tonight, Chris. Such a quality goal kicker. So often in his

rhythm. An impressive man coming on the field, Mata, for Edinburgh.

Chances are he will score a try. Sevens medallist with Fiji. He will

have a big impact to play. Somebody told Magnus Bradbury to get a move

on, I suspect. It is twice he's had a go in quick succession.

The game goes on. Duncan Weir charged down. He's

recovered it and he's carried over. Well, pressure, pressure, pressure.

He did well to get back there, Chris. That was some great

defending. Did do well to get back, so much

pressure, when you have Jonny Gray, six foot seven, full rich ahead of

you, really good kicking pressure, did well to get back, when the ball,

driven over the field. Outstanding attacking opportunity for Glasgow,

as we see, Josh Strauss leaving the field.

Another man with a two-year deal in his pocket. Good to see him back,

first game since May. Like-for-like, number eight. Adam Ashe has taken

his place at number eight. Fresh push. Good attacking position, this,

for Glasgow. Russell, Russell... Russell is going all the way. Lifted

up. Glasgow within reach, Edinburgh defending for their lives, Glasgow

have it. We think Russell has lost his headband. Just stopped short,

difficult area of the field to defend. Jonny Gray, working really

hard. Good tackle. Good defence. Comes in from Fraser McKenzie,

manages to roll Johnny red Jonny Gray. Because he is moving forward,

because he has the deck, the scrum will be Glasgow. -- manages to roll

Jonny Gray. Bulumakau It BEHIND him, that means that tom brown and duncan

newman have two cover the left-hand side.

The Edinburgh scrum-half is a key defender, such an important

defender, you can see him having a word with Phil Burleigh, finding out

their roles, going through scenarios. If one player comes here,

the number eight picks up, if the 12 goes short. Who picks up who,

scrum-half in this situation, so vital. Glasgow have retained the

setup, if you have look. Falling immediately behind the scrum on the

right-hand side. Junior Bulumakau is immediately behind him. Gets it

away. This is what happens. This is your man. Galloping up there. Spare

man on the outside. They have to turn inside. Glasgow will close goes

forward, turns it back. Grand larceny by the scrum-half. Did well,

not only did he defend, he turned it into attack, off they go again,

Duncan Weir. Moving it to Phil Burleigh. Could not get it away, he

tried, off the ground, decided better to keep it. Glasgow have

stolen it. It is all becoming very open. It is whoever takes the next

chance, I suspect, could take the game. Glasgow with men aplenty here.

Settles it out. Cleverly around the back. More direct. Russell looking

for the big cans in front of him. A bit more effort to create the space.

Directing the traffic behind. Jonny Gray... Puafisi... He is off again,

pedalling away, concentrating on the right-hand side, lacking on the

touchline. Don't be surprised if they come wheedling back this way.

Up and over. Pyrgos takes it himself. Glasgow with a bit of

pressure now. Trying times for Edinburgh. Hidalgo-Clyne nearly

pinched it again. Edinburgh have to be very careful. Duncan Weir in

there, blocking the attack. Five metres out. Pyrgos. Picked up by

MacArthur. They will try again. One-handed from Alainu'uese. Four.

Bradbury, taking a sting, holding his arm gingerly. Coming left now.

Well knocked back by Edinburgh. Tiring stuff for the Edinburgh

defence. Constant pressure now. Tight Glasgow attack.

Huge pressure on Edinburgh's line here, unbelievable number of

faces... Well! Ian Davies said it was fumbled backwards. Half the

crowd would disagree. Nonetheless, Glasgow carry on. Playing the

whistle. They need it quickly. Edinburgh doing their all to slow it

down. Hamish Watson doing his best to slow

it down. Number 12, third score for Glasgow, that was wound up, wound up

and wound up until Edinburgh had nothing left to defend on the

outside, and Alloa no easy -- Talyllyn

I think I have never seen as long a build-up, unbelievable, all started

from the wonderful defensive effort from the Edinburgh scrum, must've

five minutes worth of play, knocking out the door, putting in big tackles

and then Glasgow's discipline and keeping the ball under pressure,

time and time and time again. -- Alainu'uese. Resulted in this,

touching down, unbelievable piece of rugby in both attack and defence,

Glasgow coming out on top. Fantastic defence from Edinburgh, eventually,

they ran out of numbers and I said the next scorer would be very

important because that has put Glasgow into bonus points territory,

as they get one more score, one more try after this. Finn Russell has the

first opportunity to add two more to his burgeoning tally. Not the

prettiest but he got it over, now the two, 12-25, Glasgow lead. We

asked for more quality at half-time, that last passage of play, it went

both sides. The defence was outstanding. So many times, Glasgow

ability in attack and defence, but there is also being errors that we

do not often associate with these players. That is a derby, that is

almost what a derby does to you. The last try for Glasgow, and the way

they play, the defence has played for solo long, and so well, it was

worth coming along. More of an atmosphere around than the 21,000

air is here. Grand old stadium, 21,000, transforms the play. People

in the West here as well, great initiative at BT Murrayfield,

standing, it has brought the cloud closer, so they are three or four

deep all along the touchline, giving them a claim. He will have to

say, the man in the centre of the field, we all know Jonny Gray, we

will allow one mistake. Frustration at the opening kick-off, other than

that, speaking about his stats and his influence, he leads from the

front, every single time he plays. He has carried the ball. Tonight's

man of the match, Jonny Gray. He has done well for Edinburgh, Finn

Russell has his moments, real top form. Of late. Jonny Gray, out and

out again the best player in the field. Good choice, I would say, and

Edinburgh have a choice, do they try to disrupt this? Do they go for it,

they have to go for it. The scrum has come out on top more than it has

not, if that makes sense, so technical at times, you rarely get

one scrum. Edinburgh have to go for this, they have to drive through,

and don't forget, this 1872 cup is played over two legs, aggregate

score, the second one at the end of the season. Don't forget, a bonus at

stake here, if Glasgow can go the whole length of the field, which

they are capable of doing, in four minutes, three and a half minutes

now, they have the speed and the pace to do it. Edinburgh cannot

afford to make a mistake, which would allow Glasgow to go through.

If Edinburgh can get a try and a conversion, it would take them to 19

points. Losing bonus point territory, which would be useful,

any point, every point is useful, come the end of the season. From

Glasgow's point of view, they need a solid scrum. Comfortable ballplayer,

on the left-hand side, the defensive aspect, this is eating up the clock.

We are a minute and a half into this since the scrum was awarded of

playing time. All pointing in the favour of Glasgow. Clock ticking

away. They know it. They know what they have to do, as well.

one more roll the dice. They can afford to. If their coach has

anything to do with it, they will be very disciplined with what they do

with it. No dink over the top, hard to say whether he wanted to keep

that in play but he wanted to get the distance, that was the safest

and best option. I'm surprised they took the quick tap, at that point,

form on it's left, loads of time to get another 40, 50 metres in, and

launch the attack, trying to catch him unawares. Kennedy made a tackle

bit in the outcome of the league. Forget about the rivalry, the Derby,

the 1872 cup, this is important for league points in the Pro12, winning

away from home, then they can get their league campaign back on track.

kick, just outside, and this is where they launch, the big bonus

point, busy trying to score the fourth try, Edinburgh must believe

that they can turn over possession and get a bonus point. Could be a

beak point, could be a big point. Big point if they can get the bonus.

They have this possession. They will play this for what it's worth, they

will be patient, they will get within range. It is the try they

need, not a penalty. That will give them only more territory. Determined

to thwart them. They are all going right now. Here they come. They have

one minute to go. One minute Glasgow need to recycle it, Edinburgh

fighting hard, they may have won it. They still have it almost through.

The penalty has gone to Edinburgh. Edinburgh have it, it will be quick.

Mentioned before the game, the performance he put in, once again,

man of the match, deservedly so. His workrate is phenomenal. Just puts it

in every week. I think both coaches will take something from it. Second

half was much better. The try that Alex Dunbar scored was a great

passion play for both sides, because Glasgow's attack was matched by the

Edinburgh defence. That was a quality I would love to have seen.

Glasgow will be very happy. It has been a stop start season, the Pro12

season, winning only five, now it is six, and it is a win away from home.
