Episode 19 Super League Show

Hello. It is a big week in Europe, but big decisions have already been

made in Super League. We are getting close to finding out who is in and

who is out. Here is what is coming up. For instance and Catalans are

centre stage as the top four look to keep on climbing. -- Warrington. The

England coach is on tour. And we meet the Devils for a few on Super

League life and more. Mr dawn and Mr Robinson have all the angles covered

on Round 19. They were tributes to Rome and Costello this week. He died

on Tuesday after an injury sustained in a match is stained at Salford. --

Ronan Costello. He was just 17 years old. How well did you know him? I

didn't know him extremely well, but I have helped coach the side he was

part of. He was a lovely lad. He had bags of potential as a rugby player.

He always seemed to work harder than anyone else. It shows what type of

lad he is by the reaction of his under 19s team-mates. They are all

heartbroken. A devastating week for the club and his family. He will be

sorely missed. Huddersfield's game on Friday was their first since the

sacking of Paul Anderson. Andy Kelly was in charge for the trip to

Salford and the commentator is Tim Steer.

Michael Dobson. Wrapped up around the ankles. Craig Kopczak scores

against his former club. Lovely cutout pass and Jake Connor will go

in at the corner. Danny Brough, so injury and shall -- influential for

Jamie Ellis. Jamie Ellis will be Huddersfield Giants. Found the hands

ten minutes in the bin. He is not happy about it. But off he goes.

Back into the hands of Danny Brough. Another point on the board. Salford

have some work to do if they are going to find a way back into this

match. Speculative pass for Josh Jones. He has not knocked it on and

he has stretched out to score. A late resurgence from the Salford Red

Devils. It will not be enough, Huddersfield will hold on for the

win. I am hoping that to my's away win will get rid of some of the

anxiety and apprehension we saw in the first 40 minutes. There are

things we can still do better, but without the anxiety we will do

better. The players know their jobs, but they have failed to do them

consistently for quite awhile. We showed to my what a good side they

are. We need be better as a team. They have trained really well in the

week. Training yesterday was unreal. We were really good in general. When

we have trained well, we have performed well, but today we have

not turned up. That is the be all and end all of it. We have not

turned up as a club we need to be eager

a difficult week for everyone. What a relief to go out on the pitch? The

first team had days. We any have one session before the game. We must be

got the win for Ronan Costello. The under 19s came and celebrated with

us. A fitting week after such a low period for the club. Was Paul

Anderson's sacking inevitable? Work you shot? It is cut-throat. If you

don't win, if you don't get points, especially with the new format, it

pressure on coaches and if you are not getting the results, it is the

nature of the beast. Under him until this season, he won the shield in

2013, you have been top four, what coach do you need to take the club

to the next step? I don't know. It is an enigma. Finding the right

person to come in after the previous one. Since Nathan Brown took over,

we have been a top four club and we have been challenging. The banks of

not great when you see less than 2008 Super League game. It is

disappointing. At the old ground, we did have great crowds, but they were

vocal. There is not that same aura about the place in terms of how loud

the crowd is. It is disappointing, but Salford will be doing their

best. If they get better points, but the deduction has not helped them,

so they need to improve their crowds and the players will probably play

better on the back of it. No one has collected more points away from home

than Catalans. We were in Warrington on Friday. Dave Woods was watching.

A good position they find themselves in with a chance to hammer this

Warrington line. That looked high. It is. Ashton Sims. A clear swinging

arm. Penalty for Catalans. Doug Richards gives this click it due

attention. Over it glows and Catalans have an early lead. A

little double himself here. He is a wily figure. Picks up and carries on

the running. Might be looking for a penalty, he doesn't get it, but he

doesn't need it. Atkins just about keeps his feet to claim the first

try of the night. Wonder. Four. -- wonderful stuff. Danny Houghton

launching an attack. Short pass and a finish by Bousquet. Came in on the

angle and Warrington did not lay a hand on him. Just to his left for

Clarke, but he has to go to the right-hand side. A niggling effort

from Gidleigh. Clark again. Catalans defending on their own line. Ake

comes -- back it comes. Lots of space. It swings back Warrington's

way. Interesting spectator here to night. Wayne Bennett, the new

England coach. He is doing the rounds this weekend. Catalans with

Carney. Play on says the referee. A delicate chip towards the corner and

Yaha will claim it. The referee is not sure here. Just checking for a

crossing. They have got no try. No try, he says. Looking for the

destruction. There is the obstruction. Goes to the gap. Maybe

a misjudgement. Nothing wrong with that. It should be a Catalans tried,

and it is. They are back in the lead with Yaha the try scorer. They have

got a bit of wit on that left hand side, but Yaha is going to be

locked. Dragged out of play, but he keeps his place. Richards back

towards the middle. It was taken in hard. Chris Hill has been pinged for

a hard tackle. So Pat Richards with a chance to give his side a 6-point

lead at half-time looms and Castle for -- Castleford edged a little

closer towards the finishing line. Quickly in there from dummy half.

Hill, straightening things up. Dwyer has a look around. Still going.

Dwyer preaches and scores. Great start to the second half for

Warrington. And it is Dwyer, Brad Dwyer who is a real bright spark.

Ratchford. Westwood spinning it away and keeping things alive here.

Mateos dodging and weaving and looks for the off-load. It is a little

loose and Catalans have it back. Six tries from here. Offside. You could

hear the referee count them. One, two, three, offside. The penalty

goes Catalans way and in a tight game it is a chance for Pat Richards

to edged his side to points into the lead again. He's hit could prove

vital at the end of the night. Richards right in front of what

seems a large target, and over it goes and Catalans lead 18-16.

Evans. There is one last tackle to come. Ratchford back to Gidley.

Gidley puts it at high, who is challenging? It is picked up by

carne, and he is away! Sandow is after him, I think he will be chased

down, but he looks inside and find support. And Jodie Broughton will be

the last man in the link, had already goes. It is a length of the

field try. If it is given. The referee says no

try. And they are looking at the contact on Gidley from the kick.

Feet off the ground, and a high tackle on Gidley. That has to be a

penalty. No try, Jodie Broughton's celebrations are cut short. And it

could be suffering at the other end, because here comes Gidley with a

penalty kick from a high shot from Pelissier, and that means it is all

square again at 18 apiece. They want to get on with it. Clarke will drop

from dummy half. Clark! The ball disappeared from his grasp. He is

celebrating a try. He says no try. Cramming is what they are looking

at. Does it hit the ground? No, it doesn't. And it is ripped away by

Catalan defenders. How does the video referee judged this? No try.

But it is a penalty. It penalty for the ball steel. What a moment this

is! Gidley with a chance to win the game potentially from here. It is a

tough one from the touchline, but he has curled it in. And Warrington,

for the first time in a long time, have the lead in this game, and it

might just be decisive. Let's go to the big turning point I suppose it

was. Catalan looked a bit scored arguably the try of the game, but it

gets pulled back quite rightly for Pelissier. If you are the couch, do

you take him aside and have a good talking to? Definitely. Because he

has cost them with his actions. The risk against reward, adding that

much pressure on and taking yourself out of the game, there is no

advantage they are going to gain from that, and they go on to score a

great try that would probably have won the game, but inevitably he has

cost the game. No arguments about it. Even the owners denied and had a

go at him for what he did. Yes, if the owners are saying they are not

victimised... There is no value in what he is doing. Catalan, an injury

hit side, they have put up a performance. That has been the

turning point for Catalan, there away form. They're been consistently

able to play at home, now they are doing it away. If I were that

George, I would be infuriated. From the point of view Warrington, Tony

Smith not happy, he said, we are being dictated to and playing the

victims. What does he mean? I interpret that as him saying they're

not going out and doing what they want to do in a game, not initiating

contacts or playing with their game plan, they are sitting back and

letting the other teams dictate the game and how they want to play, and

then just reacting and playing off the back of it. Getting bullied, a

little bits, in that regard. He will be disappointed, because that has

been their strength throughout the year is playing on the front foot,

playing exciting rugby and taking it to the opposition. What has been the

turning point backwards for them a little bit? There are always peaks

and troughs, Sandow got injured when he was playing amazing. It happens.

It is all about picking the right time. The leaks have shown that as

long as you get yourself in that top four, it is all about that last four

and playing good stuff. Both of them look like they will be in the top

four, could you see this as a possible Grand Final? I have

actually predicted it will be Warrington- hole-mac. Catalan should

be up in those play-offs, they could do some damage. If they get their

full squad out of those games, they can beat anyone. I could see them in

the Grand Final. I would go against Rob! I will not have a go. Readers

-- leaders going into it where Hull. How do you approach this one, look?

Coming up against hole-mac who had played really well and got some

results, we knew we had to start well. And we did, we started well

and got on top early. But the last 20 minutes of the first half we were

poor and made too many mistakes, give away too many penalties. We

were disappointing. I thought we would make it at the end, thought we

had done enough, but we didn't do enough against a very good whole

team. He had a few players playing out of position. Yes, I think we can

sustain it over a longer put of time, that is difficult. But all

clubs have had to do it. We have had to deal with that. But it has taken

its toll on us at certain times this year. Lee Radford the morning limit

of errors, despite going on to win. Yes, we try to put them under a lot

of pressure, because they have been making errors in the last three or

four weeks, they have got quite a lot of balls, probably because

they're trying to play quite a lot of rugby. He will be disappointed

with that, but there was a bit of rain towards the end which did not

help the handling conditions. But they were still good enough to get

the win. And what about Solomona, he is scoring for fun. Pretty much

every one of his finishes have been incredible, acrobatics. We have to

find him half a yard, because he is electric, his pace is great. What

would the impact of the substitute? He came on here and had this burst

of enthusiasm. Radford said he had a point to prove, and he certainly

did. He got that try, and that hurt us because we're just got ourselves

back in the game and then had to chase it again. That hurt us, and

then with this one not quite going over, it was a great kick from Danny

Tickle, just not quite enough. If you take the tries, you would have

won it. Yes, but it should not come down to conversion from the

sideline. down to conversion from the

sideline. There was enough to win it. A few soft tries from our

defensive standards, and a few chances we should have scored and

got the win. Is it the sign of a championship side that if they are

not playing well they're still winning games? I think you read my

mind, the fact that he is claiming that Hull and making so many

mistakes but still winning. It is all about gaining points. At this

time of year, you take when just to get in that top four. For them to

not play at their absolute best and still win games... It is really

difficult to go to the Jungle, or whatever it is called at Castleford,

it is a difficult place to go, so to win not playing your best off, it is

looking good for hole-mac. Time to read the Salford White boy, who

missed the first few months of the season but is now winning friends

and scoring tries on the wing for the Red Devils.

I got into rugby when I was 13, I was young. My mum was protective she

didn't really like me contact sport. I remember a couple of games where

she wanted to run onto the field where was young to see if I was OK.

But that is just my mum, and she is happy that it is into my life and it

has taken me to parts of the world which I am loving. My heart was I

was back at home with the Broncos, that was my team, and I told my mum

when I was young that one day I would play for them, and to actually

run out onto the field and put on that jersey, I remember my first

home game, literally my whole family was there. I had to get about 20

tickets. They were all sitting in the corner in the same section, and

I was fortunate enough to score at that corner. That was an awesome

feeling for me and a dream come true. When I was in Australia I had

some interest. It all became a bit of a money thing. My family is what

I look after, that is my priority, so to support them and to be will to

do that for my family is a big thing for me. I'm pretty sure I'm not the

only one sending money back onto my family to support them. It is

something I have chosen to do personally. I have an autistic

brother at home mum has to look after. It is not easy for them. And

it is something I choose to do, to be there for them.

When this came up, and I had about Manchester, being able to come here

once, and I really enjoyed it. The fans are crazy. They love singing

their songs, and I love the atmosphere. The people over here in

England, I find them very friendly. I have a song they have made. It is

funny, it is catchy and gets in my head.

# Vidot is on fire. # All the boys play for each other,

it is a bit of a brotherhood. There have been a couple of results will

be lost by small margin, and shorter cells in the foot with mistakes are

certain things we have gone for and it has not come off foreigners. That

is something we have to look at and address. That's happened, let's move

on and do what we can do. Our priority at the moment is to get

into that top eight, and I think it is achievable for us. Every game is

pretty much a final for us. Competition that all the boys are

excited for the challenge. I know that I personally love that, I love

having a challenge in front of me. So hopefully we get the job done.

last time leads one away from Headingley was in the Grand Final at

Old Trafford. The champions were Belle Vue on Friday night, always

feisty, and it was a good start. By all accounts the conditions were

horrendous, a lot of handling errors, but it seems that leads

handle the conditions are little bit better. Wakefield have struggled in

the last few weeks. Where playing excellent rugby, but the last few

weeks they have struggled for a little bit of form. Would they have

fancied their chances against a down on their luck leads? I think so.

Leeds have got quality personnel, quality players. It is only a matter

of time before they do click, and they will hope you can use this game

as a springboard to more victories. Look, you were at the game, was a

game management that one this? Certainly was. Leeds were fantastic

and their management. The got to the kicks well. You can see here Liam

Sutcliffe taking another penalty. He kicked four penalties, any time you

got a penalty inside the 30 they would take the points which give

them a good cushion at times. And scoring this try like this one, Ryan

Hoggan off the bench amid a great difference to the team. I'm sure the

players will see him coming back as a real boost. They had to change a

little bit, they rotated full-backs through the game. They did. They

made quite a big change. There was a change at hooker that... Liam

Sutcliffe was playing really well, but they rotated around and ended up

playing a really good game. What did you make of the Symbian on his

debut? I'm try to work out the ruling of throwing the ball at

someone. What constitutes sin-bin for. He did not look impressed. He

actually got a head high in the tackle before, so that's what he was

not overly pleased about. But I will have to check my robe at home, --

check my rule book. From the Leeds point of view, they have a week off,

and given all the injuries, how much of a boost will it be fun and

finally to have a breather? I think so. With their training base in

everything that has gone on. For them to have a little bit of time to

regroup. Ryan Hall, back, one point the world was my best winger. It is

great for the young lads. But they also have players on the sidelines

still to come back, and sometimes you can use a week off to your

advantage. I be looking upwards? Witness of the team they are

targeting, and they have their next. It is only one victory away from

home, like you say, but they will try to use this as a little bit of a

springboard and carry a bit of momentum into the game they have

next. St Helens were looking to avoid a fifth consecutive league

when they took on Hull KR on Friday. The commentator is Richard Sterne.

This is a bright start from the Robins. Clarkson to Kelly. He

juggles with it and has got support. Ken Greenwood make it? No, but he

can. Hull Kingston Rovers open the scoring. Fast hands. Clarkson

with a score. Along the line. Out of the side. Smith's fourth of the

evening. St Helens in command now. There is Dixon. Greenwood. Still

Thomas Minns. He is in. A lifeline for Hull Kingston Rovers. There is

Will Keane. Out to Greenwood. Going further line, going for the

off-load. Percival will Clay with the try. Opportunity for Wilkin. He

has had a good game, McCarthy-Scarsbrook. The set one up,

he has scored one now. Here comes Saints again. Walmsley bullies his

way over. Saints win comfortably. As well as the wind, what about the

tries? They score some great tries. It will give them a good boost in

confidence because they have lacked it and they have been challenged

internally and externally on the way they have played. It will be a good

thing for them. Hull KR, tough on them with so many players out. What

would you do, or wrap them up in cotton wool and look to the Yates?

When they lose key personnel, which they have done throughout the

season, they do struggle a bit. I have been disappointed with some of

their defending qualities. It's a little bit soft, some of the tries.

The England coach Wayne Bennett was that two Super League matches. He

also held a meeting with 31 Super League players. Everyone was keen to

stress it was not an England squad. We will go through it in groups. Was

the omission of Jamie a surprise? He has said well, but it looks as if

they are going the last year's squad and added more in. He was the most

unlucky. Kevin Brown is in there. Would you have in the England team?

Without a doubt. One of my biggest bugbear is is when people talk about

next year's potential. International rugby is about winning now. It is

the be all and end all. If a player is 36 years old and he's the best,

pick him. Looking at the props and the hookers, it will be tough

because there are good players in the NRL. It will be tough of the

place to get in. Definitely. The Australian -based props and walkers

will come for the NRL. Depending on how form works out, you would like

to think a few of those guys would get a chance. But I think Wayne will

lean on picking most of the guys out there.

If you look at the squad, everyone is getting a second crack of the

whip. A familiar squad with a few names added. Is that when Bennett

is, he goes on for Minnock reputation? Yes, I think that is his

way. He was coach at Queensland for a few years and that was the ethos.

He is not going to go on refutation or a few other people think he

should pick. He will pick the best players. He will let them know nice

and early and get them as good as they possibly can. His assistant was

plotting the downfall of Wigan and we will see how he got on shortly,

but there was a time when he was Cherry and Whites to the call. He

was part of a weakened team that took on Halifax in 1990, and yes, it

is Hammer time. A beautiful ball. He has an overlap.

There is a chance. To Edwards. It is the first one already. Great

tackling by Halifax. That is good play. Steve Smith. He will make it.

Beautiful cover tackle from Danny Spens. That is a good run.

Hanley again. Kenny get to left of the field. Oh, yes he will. Superb

try for Jeremy Hanley. He has got Hanley coming along inside. He goes

for the hat-trick. That is the first time any player has ever scored a

hat-trick in the final of this competition. For more tackles to go

in this sequence. I think he is over. There is no stopping that 18

stones ?5 tank when it is roaring at you. There it is, the sign of the

80s and now dominating the 90s. Widnes went top in March, but they

have dropped. The reaction of three coaches in the stands will tell you

everything you need to know about this one. The commentator is Dave

some pertinent questions. All we had to do was catch the ball. He scored

Hanbury for the line. Who would be a coach on a night like this. The

frustration mounts for Widnes. Two moments of Neoguri that have ended

in disaster. It's no surprise the England coach is yawning here. We

have yet to see the first score. Driven in and straightened up.

Waiting at dummy half. Keen to get involved, but he passes it on.

Charnley once it, Charlie gets it. Glory Glory hallelujah, we have a

try. 50 minutes very nearly played and Josh Charnley finally breaks the

deadlock. Well, he was calling for it earlier and it is a lovely flick

pass that took it his way. Shaun Wane punches the air. Smith offering

it back on inside again and a plundering forward by Sutton. Matty

Smith on the sixth tackle. In a drop kic position and over it goes. That

might be the moment that wins the game. -- drop-kick. Hard labour from

deep inside their own half, carried out here by Corey Thompson who has

done really well. Has that lifted Widnes now to produce something

special? It looks as though it might have gone. Dean running free. For

the corner. Oh, he has lost it! He has lost it. That is the third...

The referee is having a look at it again. That is the third scorer bore

moment that Widnes has let slip through their hands. -- that is the

third moment for a score that with this has let slip through their

hands. -- Widnes. They keep the pressure up on top spot.

Do you watch Dennis Spence and think, maybe not. Too many highs and

lows and the emotional stress that must be, it must be awful. It was a

coach killer. Some of the things that happened in the game, during

the game, honestly be tried at the end. He's head was in his hands the

most of the game. We have had a few low scoring matches. Is that just

good defence? Wigan's defence was good on the night. You would like to

think it is good defence and not poor attack, but watching this one

here, thinking about consistency, because it is a counter attack it

gets pulled up. On a different field the slides over and scores. They

dropped one over the line. You would like to think it is really good

defence and that is what is making these low scores. A lot of players

rested by Wigan or out injured. They do still keep grinding out those

results in a way that other teams don't cope. That is a sign of a good

side when you are winning without your best players. Wigan have a

conveyor belt of good players. If someone is out, they bring in

someone who is good. John Bateman suspended for eight weeks. Is that

enough for everyone to forgive and forget and move on? Well, it depends

on what has happened. Whether that will ever come out, I am not sure,

but the issue at hand is whatever the players in the club decide. It

will be hard to speculate on that unless you know all the facts, I

would say. Wayne Bennett was watching on, we saw him yawning. If

you need some sleep on the way home, maybe we will repeat that one.

Watching a majority of these games, I have turned a few after half-time.

It wasn't the greatest weekend. Not necessarily the best advert. Five

wins in Rome for Wigan. Here is how things are looking for them and

everyone else in the First Utility Super League.

Super League takes a break this week because it is the quarterfinals of

the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup. It kicks off in Huddersfield on

Thursday and continues on Friday and Saturday. Coverage on the BBC begins

with commentary on Huddersfield against Wakefield. That's from

Warrington against Widnes. We will be showing Wigan and Castleford on
