It's a hive of activity here at the aquatic centre. Alongside me for the

:00:37.:00:46.

rest of the week, I love the way Becky looks at me to say, I went

:00:47.:00:54.

there. Becky Adlington, double gold medallist at the Olympics. How

:00:55.:00:58.

excited are you about the national anthem? We got the national anthem

:00:59.:01:11.

of Italy. It is exciting being at the European Championships. This is

:01:12.:01:16.

an opportunity for these guys to test themselves and see how they

:01:17.:01:20.

are. There is going to be nowhere to hide in three months' time. An

:01:21.:01:30.

exciting we can store. Here's what's coming next. In a couple of minutes

:01:31.:01:44.

time, Hannah Miley goes. Adam Peaty comes up later. We had a bit of a

:01:45.:01:58.

giggle because there is so much going on behind us. This really is a

:01:59.:02:04.

significant competition. It is a stepping stone, the biggest meeting

:02:05.:02:09.

before the Olympics. It is always a challenge. It is going to be a quick

:02:10.:02:14.

week. Maybe a world record, hopefully there will be. I great

:02:15.:02:17.

opportunity for these guys did she wear their act. What should people

:02:18.:02:26.

look out for? It's about stepping up and performing. We had our trials

:02:27.:02:31.

three weeks ago. I don't think our guys will be on top of their game.

:02:32.:02:38.

Some of the swimmers, this is their trials. The bottom line is,

:02:39.:02:46.

compared. Step up and compete against some of the best of

:02:47.:02:50.

swimmers. Some of our guys aren't at the top of their game. Big story

:02:51.:02:56.

about James Guy. We'll talk about that later. Right now, one of

:02:57.:03:02.

Scotland's finest. The lady we like to call Hannah Smiley Miley.

:03:03.:03:12.

COMMENTATOR: She could get a medal here. It is going to be really

:03:13.:03:18.

tired. Miley is streaking away now. She's got the gold. The crowd are on

:03:19.:03:25.

the effete, saluting a double champion. Well done, Hannah Miley.

:03:26.:03:31.

Let's talk about Hannah Miley. She's been competing for a long time. A

:03:32.:03:37.

brilliant servant to swimming. She is such a great role model. She

:03:38.:03:41.

works hard. One of the hardest trainers I have seen in my entire

:03:42.:03:46.

life. I used to hate Cheney against her. Back off, Hannah! -- training

:03:47.:03:53.

against her. She has a great relationship with her coach. Aimee

:03:54.:04:00.

Willmott in this as well. How much confidence should she have going

:04:01.:04:04.

into this final? This morning she went very hard at world record pace.

:04:05.:04:13.

The bottom line is, go in there and use your page -- pace. She's gaining

:04:14.:04:21.

experience than she is a couple of years younger than Hannah. Hannah

:04:22.:04:24.

has always nearly been there when it comes to Olympic Games. It's

:04:25.:04:31.

important for these two to get used to swimming next to her. One of two

:04:32.:04:38.

to watch over the next few minutes. Andy Jamieson and Karen Pickering

:04:39.:04:42.

will take you through the 400 metres women's IM. COMMENTATOR: There is

:04:43.:04:58.

Hannah Miley waiting in the waiting room. Nervous place when you are

:04:59.:05:08.

that close to your eyeballs. Always nice to have a team-mate there. A

:05:09.:05:13.

friendly face. These girls know each other well. Aimee Willmott will go

:05:14.:05:27.

in Lane 5. In her home pool. And between them Katinka Hosszu. The

:05:28.:05:38.

iron Lady. She will race them both tonight as well. She is a tough

:05:39.:05:39.

lady. Trombetti of Italy was the slowest

:05:40.:06:07.

qualifier. Anya Klinar. Carlotta Toni from Italy. She had an amazing

:06:08.:06:11.

brushstroke this morning. She was miles behind and by the end of the

:06:12.:06:24.

brushstroke she was in the hand. One of the threats here. She has been on

:06:25.:06:30.

the podium for this event. She has got form. Here comes Hannah Miley.

:06:31.:06:37.

What a favourite she is. She was European champion back in 2010. She

:06:38.:06:46.

has had some battles with Hosszu and Jakabos over the years. Aimee

:06:47.:06:54.

Willmott in her home pool. Coached here at the aquatic centre. She

:06:55.:06:58.

could get a medal. Wouldn't that be great. Hard to see past Katinka

:06:59.:07:07.

Hosszu of Hungary. The world champion, world record holder at the

:07:08.:07:11.

200 medley. Defending European champion of 2012 and 2014. Katinka

:07:12.:07:18.

Hosszu, the fastest qualifier. She is surrounded by Miley in three and

:07:19.:07:25.

Wilmot in five. Tactics here are going to be interesting. How do you

:07:26.:07:33.

swim against Katinka Hosszu? She was in a completely different race this

:07:34.:07:38.

morning. Seven seconds clear of the field. If they can get near, they

:07:39.:07:44.

must know they are swimming well. Very high quality field. Three of

:07:45.:07:50.

these four World Championship finalists from last year. There is

:07:51.:07:57.

the gold medallist, the Olympic champion, Katinka Hosszu of Hungary.

:07:58.:08:04.

While! Possibly the worst start I've ever seen in a major final from

:08:05.:08:10.

Katinka Hosszu. She completely got left of the block. Absolutely caught

:08:11.:08:17.

napping there. But up into the lead already. Not sure what happened to

:08:18.:08:22.

her. Maybe she thought she'd let the girls have a head start. Hosszu

:08:23.:08:28.

bleeding in the centre. One lane close to as is Hannah Miley. --

:08:29.:08:44.

leading. Goodness me. She has for such strong strokes. Freestyle may

:08:45.:08:53.

be the weakest. Jakabos, a good 200 by the fly swimmer. Strange gait she

:08:54.:09:02.

has there. A really slow turnover. But effective. She will come to the

:09:03.:09:07.

wall just ahead of Hannah Miley who has really improved her butterfly

:09:08.:09:12.

leg over the last few years. Going back to the Commonwealth Games,

:09:13.:09:15.

sheep changed her pacing in the race. -- she changed. Changed it,

:09:16.:09:28.

gave herself more of a chance. Close between Jakabos and Miley. But

:09:29.:09:36.

Katinka Hosszu. She is leading. Into the backstroke turn. 1.5 seconds

:09:37.:09:47.

behind is Jakabos in Lane 6. Hannah Miley is third. Jakabos does not

:09:48.:09:56.

have a great brushstroke at all. Doesn't have the prettiest strokes

:09:57.:10:03.

but she is so strong, Hosszu. She is not very broad but she is very

:10:04.:10:15.

ripped. Katinka Hosszu, the world champion is on the world-record pace

:10:16.:10:25.

by 1.1 seconds. Quite extraordinary. Hannah Miley starting to make a big

:10:26.:10:30.

move on the brushstroke in third. Coming back for Great Britain is

:10:31.:10:35.

Aimee Willmott. She could catch Jakabos on this breast stroke. Very

:10:36.:10:41.

good on the brushstroke and the front crawl. A lot of work to do.

:10:42.:10:46.

Look at the distance between her and Jakabos. She will be eyeing her up

:10:47.:10:51.

on every single stroke. She will be chasing down. Katinka Hosszu is just

:10:52.:11:01.

power. She wants to get the world-record, she needs to be well

:11:02.:11:06.

up after the brushstroke leg. The Chinese girl who held it had an

:11:07.:11:14.

extraordinary last 100 metres. 58.6 she finished to take Olympic gold in

:11:15.:11:19.

London. Some finish needed from Hosszu. She looks like she is tying

:11:20.:11:24.

up. Hannah Miley is coming back very strong at her. Great swim for Miley.

:11:25.:11:37.

100 metres to go. In first, Katinka Hosszu. In second, Hannah Miley from

:11:38.:11:43.

Great Britain. Jakabos is in third. Aimee Willmott is chasing her and

:11:44.:11:51.

she has a better freestyle. Katinka Hosszu, the world champion on the

:11:52.:11:57.

400 metre medley is swimming away. She was under world-record pace but

:11:58.:12:04.

it is a tough split. Hannah Miley still having a fantastic swim. Aimee

:12:05.:12:10.

Willmott is chasing down Jakabos. No, Jakabos is very experienced and

:12:11.:12:16.

will be desperate to hold are of. It's all about the world-record

:12:17.:12:25.

holder. She can't quite get in on this 400 metres medley. The first

:12:26.:12:30.

medal in this Championships absolutely clear. It goes to Hosszu

:12:31.:12:36.

of Hungary. Almost exactly the same time as she did to qualify for this

:12:37.:12:41.

final. Silver medal for Hannah Miley. The bronze to Jakabos of

:12:42.:12:50.

Hungary. Just outside the medals, in fourth position, Amy Willmott.

:12:51.:12:55.

Goodness me. What an amazing flyback breast. The start was just

:12:56.:13:02.

extraordinary. She stood and watched the rest of the girls dive in. Left

:13:03.:13:10.

on the block. There is sometimes she can make up. Hannah Miley really

:13:11.:13:18.

working the breaststroke leg. Strong in the closing stages to take that

:13:19.:13:28.

title. Katinka Hosszu yet again European champion. A new

:13:29.:13:34.

championship record for her. Great silver medal for Hannah Miley.

:13:35.:13:40.

Jakabos, the bronze. Aimee Willmott just outside the medals in fourth.

:13:41.:13:47.

STUDIO: Very impressive from Hannah Miley particularly the brushstroke.

:13:48.:13:52.

Aimee Willmott will be disappointed to miss out on a medal. She swam

:13:53.:13:58.

three seconds faster in the heats. She didn't leave enough in the bag

:13:59.:14:04.

for her. She needs to work on the backstroke for the games. How

:14:05.:14:11.

impressive was Hannah? 4.35 is a good swim. She has done it many

:14:12.:14:17.

times now but it will be around the medals in Rio. Breaststroke was

:14:18.:14:20.

unbelievably strong. She looked so good. I keep looking over your

:14:21.:14:27.

shoulder to see whether Hannah Miley is approaching Sharron Davies. We

:14:28.:14:31.

will see her get her medal a little bit later on. It is hot in here!

:14:32.:14:37.

Frustrating for Aimee Willmott but good times for Hannah. Difficult

:14:38.:14:42.

early on because it has been up and down for the swimmers so far. Any

:14:43.:14:53.

sign of Hannay yet? No sign. Let's turn to the 100 metres men's best

:14:54.:15:02.

rope. Hannah is here! A fantastic collection of silver medals for you.

:15:03.:15:03.

A really strong butterfly. My butterfly comes and goes,

:15:04.:15:13.

depending on the training, it is something I have always worked on. I

:15:14.:15:17.

looked at my logbook from and I was younger, and I started off as a

:15:18.:15:21.

butterfly swimmer, so it has always been in there, but it does affect my

:15:22.:15:26.

other strokes, so I am always playing around with it. It was

:15:27.:15:30.

always about the race, I did not go as well as in the trials, but it was

:15:31.:15:39.

a good race, just get stuck in and race against Hosszu, who always

:15:40.:15:43.

pulls it out of the bag macro. Trying so hard to hang on with the

:15:44.:15:47.

breaststroke, she had me on the last 100. It is something I can work on.

:15:48.:15:55.

Many congratulations. Thank you. Take as through the men's 100 metres

:15:56.:16:03.

breast rogue semifinals. -- breaststroke. That is Kaeser on

:16:04.:16:12.

Switzerland, but right in the centre, Ross Murdoch, the Scottish

:16:13.:16:16.

record-holder, the World Championship bronze medallist, he

:16:17.:16:22.

goes in four, and a very quick Dugonjic of Slovenia in lane five.

:16:23.:16:28.

It will be interesting, Ross Murdoch, the 200 specialist. The

:16:29.:16:40.

others are 50 specialists. Look at the power in the shoulders. He is a

:16:41.:16:42.

big boy! Semifinal number one of the men's

:16:43.:16:55.

100 metres breaststroke. Ross Murdoch right in the centre in the

:16:56.:16:59.

white hat, a very quick start from the Italian insects. At 27 years of

:17:00.:17:05.

age, I thought he may be over the hill in the dark at in-line six, but

:17:06.:17:08.

starting to come through is Ross Murdoch in number four. Murdoch has

:17:09.:17:17.

performed well over the 100 metres event even though he is a distant

:17:18.:17:21.

specialist. Ross Murdoch turning first, expect him to be strong,

:17:22.:17:33.

Dugonjic just behind him. He needs to hold onto his stroke and power

:17:34.:17:40.

down this last 25 metres, and he is looking good, Ross Murdoch, the

:17:41.:17:44.

Scottish record-holder, that stands at 59.1. If he can get and 60, that

:17:45.:17:50.

will be very good. It looks like he will win this first semifinal, very

:17:51.:17:56.

good indeed, impressive stuff. 59.9 in the heats, 59.6 in the semifinal

:17:57.:18:01.

will stick him in the centre lane in the final, really impressive, he is

:18:02.:18:06.

happy. The nodding his head, he will take that, great to get and the

:18:07.:18:10.

minute again, consistent performance from Ross, I like what he does.

:18:11.:18:18.

Into the turn, it was pretty close, I thought maybe the sprinters would

:18:19.:18:24.

take the race on a little bit more. The Italian did not really feature,

:18:25.:18:30.

it went the way of Ross Murdoch. Impressive that he held onto a

:18:31.:18:34.

stroke down the last 25. He was not fazed at all, he swam his race. The

:18:35.:18:39.

first semifinal goes to Ross Murdoch of Great Britain, he will get the

:18:40.:18:44.

centre lane, very good swim, under 60, 50 9.6.

:18:45.:18:53.

Well, Karen Pickering, he needed to go quick in the first semifinal,

:18:54.:18:58.

because in the second semifinal we do have Adam Peaty, but I believe

:18:59.:19:01.

Sharron Davies has got Ross Murdoch. It must be a nice feeling when you

:19:02.:19:06.

touch the wall first after 50 metres known what is in your tank. Snow, I

:19:07.:19:12.

had a disappointing start, but it just goes to show, all the work that

:19:13.:19:18.

I put in is not all gone, really strong back-end just there, so I am

:19:19.:19:22.

delighted. I will let you we have got the next semi coming, we will

:19:23.:19:28.

chat to you tomorrow. Good luck. Thank you very much. I hope we're

:19:29.:19:33.

straight into the swim down pool, get rid of the lactic acid in his

:19:34.:19:41.

legs. They need to get straight down there. In lane two, Peter Stevens of

:19:42.:19:48.

Slovenia, then the Italian, Toniato, then next to him will be Great

:19:49.:19:52.

Britain's Adam Peaty, the world record holder at 50 and 100. Yeah,

:19:53.:19:58.

what a talent, and talking about the big swimmers, they have to make

:19:59.:20:02.

T-shirts extra big for Adam Peaty, he has been hitting the weights.

:20:03.:20:11.

Titenis has been around for a long time, he will be the one to

:20:12.:20:15.

challenge Adam Peaty in the semifinal. He is huge as well,

:20:16.:20:23.

absolutely enormous! I am six foot four, lots of them are six-six, but

:20:24.:20:29.

they are built like brick houses, some of them. A huge amount of

:20:30.:20:32.

weight training they do to complement the work in the pool now,

:20:33.:20:37.

not just about swimming the metres, they pounded out in the gem. So Adam

:20:38.:20:43.

Peaty goes in fastest for the second semifinal, he in four. It should be

:20:44.:20:47.

between him and Titenis. Look at his chest, he slaps his

:20:48.:21:01.

chest to give him self heightened senses. Titenis is in five, Peaty in

:21:02.:21:14.

four. Well, Peaty swam a really good heat, we have not seen many go under

:21:15.:21:22.

59 seconds, and that was great, but still able to work on the start. He

:21:23.:21:27.

gets away so quickly, great reaction, but he is not able to do

:21:28.:21:31.

anything with it on the underwater work, that is an area he can improve

:21:32.:21:36.

through practice. Not bad down his first 50, goodness me, 27.3! Just

:21:37.:21:45.

0.28 outside of the record split for Adam Peaty, powerful swimming. Four

:21:46.:21:48.

metres clear of the field in his heat this morning, and look what

:21:49.:21:53.

doing to the rest of the swimmers down this second 50. Well, I wasn't

:21:54.:21:57.

expecting to say this, but let's keep an eye on the world record, it

:21:58.:22:03.

is his own, 57.9. Maybe he is tying up a little bit down the last 25, a

:22:04.:22:09.

body length clear over 100, quite extraordinary, 58.7. Two good times

:22:10.:22:18.

on the same day, and Peaty will go into the final tomorrow evening

:22:19.:22:20.

comfortably the fastest, and Great Britain are going to be 1-2 into

:22:21.:22:26.

that final, very exciting, what an amazing second 25! Do you know what,

:22:27.:22:33.

if I was a breast stroke up watching that swim, I would think danger!

:22:34.:22:39.

This guy does not start that well, but the swimming part of his race,

:22:40.:22:43.

just beautiful technician, look at the power he is using, tiny leg

:22:44.:22:52.

kicks, all upper body. A bit of a glide into the wall, he is not fully

:22:53.:22:56.

rested, he is looking towards Rio, and he can still post times like

:22:57.:23:02.

this. So Adam Peaty wins the second semifinal of the men's 100 metres

:23:03.:23:06.

breaststroke by 1.2 seconds. Gregory Titenis of Lithuania, he came

:23:07.:23:16.

second. A body length behind. So the finalists of the men's 100

:23:17.:23:24.

metres tomorrow night, Adam Peaty fastest, Ross Murdoch is second,

:23:25.:23:29.

Titenis was third. Only three men under 60. Goodness me, 58.7.

:23:30.:23:41.

I love that Adam Peaty's coach was ushered away from the back of the

:23:42.:23:45.

shot, I should have tried to lift her over, she is going like this,

:23:46.:23:51.

how happy will they be with that? Great swim, not arrested at all for

:23:52.:23:56.

this meeting, really hard training, three months out from the Olympics,

:23:57.:24:01.

racing exactly how he needs to in Rio, what an athlete. The front end

:24:02.:24:08.

split was there, only 0.2 off his world record pace which was set here

:24:09.:24:13.

last year. The backend stuff comes with rest. Getting and 59 seconds in

:24:14.:24:19.

the morning and evening, that is enough to win a medal. We can hear

:24:20.:24:23.

from him with Sharron Davies right now. Two fantastic 100 breast

:24:24.:24:30.

strokes today, the crowd 100% behind you. It is great to come out one of

:24:31.:24:35.

the greatest pools on earth and have your home crowd behind you. It is

:24:36.:24:42.

looking good. You are still an incredibly young man, twice

:24:43.:24:45.

nominated for spurts personality of the year, a lot of expectation on

:24:46.:24:49.

your shoulders. -- Sports Personality of the Year. These

:24:50.:24:55.

prestigious nominations and stuff like that, at the end of the day I

:24:56.:24:59.

just do what I do, I swim up and down, simple as that, really. I do

:25:00.:25:03.

not feel pressure as such, just having fun, hopefully giving the

:25:04.:25:09.

crowd good entertainment. Is it a race tomorrow, or is it a time? It

:25:10.:25:16.

is always about the race, but hopefully I will get a time I am

:25:17.:25:20.

happy with. If you said I was going to get 58s this week, I wouldn't

:25:21.:25:24.

have said yes, but I have been training so hard, looking good.

:25:25.:25:30.

From one young man in the spotlight to another, we were expecting James

:25:31.:25:35.

Guy to be in the freestyle 400 final tonight, he got silver in the World

:25:36.:25:39.

Championships last year, the fastest in this event by far in Europe, but

:25:40.:25:43.

to get to the final you have to get through the heats, this is what

:25:44.:25:47.

happened this morning. He is in the white cap in lane four. Nowhere near

:25:48.:25:55.

qualifying, he actually qualified in ninth, so a big surprise, a few

:25:56.:25:59.

questions asked, Sharron caught up with him. I thought we would try

:26:00.:26:04.

something new, I have been in a tough place, and people do not

:26:05.:26:07.

understand that I am not rested, I am training straight through, so

:26:08.:26:13.

after the final, I will race in the morning as well, and people forget

:26:14.:26:17.

that it is a lot harder. We thought we would try something new in the

:26:18.:26:21.

heats, and it was hard. I knew it would be. What was the something

:26:22.:26:27.

new? Wearing a skimpy is for the heats, I do not think it has been

:26:28.:26:32.

done for quite a few years. I thought I would try to simulate, if

:26:33.:26:36.

I felt bad in Rio on the first day, that is what it would be like, it

:26:37.:26:40.

was hard, I know what it feels like now. Up a lot of pressure on you,

:26:41.:26:45.

with the British crowd, you and Adam, there is a spotlight on you,

:26:46.:26:49.

did you feel that? Not really, I block that out, it is a good thing,

:26:50.:26:55.

how I can do that. Obviously, the media, Twitter and Facebook, people

:26:56.:26:59.

are saying things, but I focus on myself, I do best. At the end of the

:27:00.:27:07.

day, it is about Rio. 200 metres coming up, slightly smaller trunks?

:27:08.:27:14.

Definitely not, no more skimpies for me ever again!

:27:15.:27:19.

So why where the skimpies? I used to do and sometimes when you know you

:27:20.:27:23.

are in hard training, you are in a posh gym, give it a shot. But some

:27:24.:27:29.

miscommunication happened, because normally you can at least progress

:27:30.:27:32.

to the final if you are going to take that risk of not wearing a

:27:33.:27:38.

suit. It obviously did not pay off. It is incredible that it makes such

:27:39.:27:43.

a difference. It is mindset stuff, he is up there thinking he wants to

:27:44.:27:47.

make it a tad swim. In hard training, it is tough enough, making

:27:48.:27:55.

the European final. -- a tough swim. We know he is good, World

:27:56.:27:59.

Championship silver medallist, but he does not need to make it harder.

:28:00.:28:04.

In that interview, he said back off, Twitter, social media, media types

:28:05.:28:11.

like us, stop talking about this, leave me alone. He responded on

:28:12.:28:15.

Twitter by saying, I will do my thing, you do yours, if you don't

:28:16.:28:21.

know me, don't judge me. However, James, you are in the public eye,

:28:22.:28:24.

you have to take the praise with the criticism, we are all aware of that!

:28:25.:28:29.

Definitely aware of that, and Twitter can be your worst nightmare,

:28:30.:28:33.

and I know all about that, but at the end of the day everyone is going

:28:34.:28:38.

to judge and say, what is going on with his performance? Everyone

:28:39.:28:42.

wanted to see him swim fast this week, everyone wanted to see him on

:28:43.:28:46.

the podium. No-one is criticising him because he disappointed them,

:28:47.:28:49.

but they want to see him getting a medal, it is not a bad thing, they

:28:50.:28:54.

just want him to do well. You must be pretty confident thinking, I will

:28:55.:29:06.

try to make the final wearing that. He was obviously confident, he and

:29:07.:29:11.

his coach, but at the Ludwig aims the 400 is his best shout, and he

:29:12.:29:16.

wants to swim as often as possible, and that is a transmitter. -- at the

:29:17.:29:22.

Olympic Games. Get off Twitter, it is no place for a sportsman! Stephen

:29:23.:29:27.

Milne did make it into the final, let's see how we got on, we join him

:29:28.:29:29.

with 200 metres to go. The halfway mark of the first final

:29:30.:29:49.

of the men's four metres freestyle, and first to turn is Detti, but only

:29:50.:29:58.

by .05 of a second from the defending champion. He has been

:29:59.:30:05.

third for the first 200 metres, but got to the halfway turn, the black

:30:06.:30:09.

cat, really starting to dry and drive it away, interesting tactics.

:30:10.:30:16.

Interesting tactics. Detti might not have the speed in the early stages

:30:17.:30:27.

but he is going to be tough towards the end.

:30:28.:30:38.

It is Detti who still looks good. 100 metres to go. Two lengths of the

:30:39.:30:51.

pool. What a last 100 metres that was from Gabriele Detti. He has gone

:30:52.:31:04.

sub 3.4 four. He has put a massive length in. The others trying to hang

:31:05.:31:13.

on. Stephen Mill is out of it. This is going to be a very interesting

:31:14.:31:20.

last 50. Extraordinary penultimate length from Detti. He has really

:31:21.:31:27.

found another gear. To his right he can see all the swimmers. He is just

:31:28.:31:34.

out on his own. No doubt about the first gold medal of this 2016

:31:35.:31:48.

Championships. And a emphatic swim. The third fastest in the world this

:31:49.:31:52.

year. A new championship record. Very quick indeed. The gold goes to

:31:53.:32:01.

Gabriele Detti. The silver out in Lane 7, Henrik Christiansen. The

:32:02.:32:09.

bronze to Peter Bernek of Hungary. The defending champion way down in

:32:10.:32:15.

sixth. A great start from Stjepanovic. It was Detti out on his

:32:16.:32:26.

own in the closing stages. Only one kick? Typical distance freestyle.

:32:27.:32:35.

Breathing every stroke. To his right down the final length. He's happy

:32:36.:32:42.

with that. Result of the first final. And emphatic this victory for

:32:43.:32:53.

Gabriele Detti. Silver to Henrik Kristoffersen. Bronze to Peter

:32:54.:33:00.

Bernek. Over to Stephen Milne. What is your priority here? I'm happy

:33:01.:33:07.

with that race. I have a mixture of races in my programme. It is a tough

:33:08.:33:14.

start and a tough race. Now I have the 1500 and the four times two to

:33:15.:33:26.

come. Everybody wants to do well with a home crowd. We are going to

:33:27.:33:33.

do our best. Nobody is denying that they are just trying to do their

:33:34.:33:37.

best. James Guy is going to be annoyed when he sees the winning

:33:38.:33:44.

times. We had our Olympic trials a month ago when he did 3.4 three. We

:33:45.:33:49.

know he is capable of it. It's a shame that just a month later he

:33:50.:33:55.

can't qualify for the final and get the medal I believe he could have

:33:56.:33:59.

qualified for. He's learned something from that. Even this week

:34:00.:34:04.

in the 200 metres freestyle he will come back fighting and hopefully

:34:05.:34:13.

learn from that. He is still young and he was projected right onto the

:34:14.:34:16.

world stage. We were shocked when he got that medal. 2013, he was a

:34:17.:34:24.

bronze medallist at the British Championships. Becky knows what it's

:34:25.:34:29.

like to be catapulted into the spotlight. It's all about

:34:30.:34:33.

experience. The wrong experience that he wanted but still an

:34:34.:34:37.

experience. We've both been through Championships with heats, semis, and

:34:38.:34:45.

finals. You do try and save a little bit. Not a great day for him but it

:34:46.:34:51.

doesn't take away from what he has done. If he gets a medal in Rio,

:34:52.:35:00.

nobody is going to say, you more trunks in the heats! What you make

:35:01.:35:12.

of chances in the next race? I think sprinters have it a little easier.

:35:13.:35:17.

Every race you should be in decent shape. I did some work with him the

:35:18.:35:25.

other day. He looks in for nominal condition. I think he will get close

:35:26.:35:31.

to winning it. Let's see how he gets on. He is in the first semifinal.

:35:32.:35:44.

COMMENTATOR: Ben Proud in the first semifinal. He is the fastest

:35:45.:35:51.

qualifier. 22.9 is his record. What has he got to do? The same as this

:35:52.:35:59.

morning. He executed his race really well. Everything just a little bit

:36:00.:36:07.

better. I thought this morning he looked superb. I've got to agree

:36:08.:36:15.

with you. There is Cheruti of Israel in the outside lane. 50 metres

:36:16.:36:23.

butterfly. Ben Proud from Great Britain at the fastest qualifier. I

:36:24.:36:27.

don't expect too many people to be too close. Maybe the man in Lane 6,

:36:28.:36:33.

possibly. Todd a road Todd of first semifinal of the men's 50

:36:34.:36:53.

flight. Then Proud right in the centre. The British record-holder.

:36:54.:37:02.

Just a flat stroke. He doesn't go up and down very much at all. Uses all

:37:03.:37:09.

his energy to go forward. The blue hats, still hasn't breathed. Looking

:37:10.:37:14.

like he's going to take the semi. Must hit the ball on the end of the

:37:15.:37:19.

stroke and he takes it. Faster than his heat. Starting to warm up now.

:37:20.:37:26.

Then Proud wins the first semifinal of the men's 50 fly. He looked

:37:27.:37:31.

pretty good. He did not take a breath. Frederick Bush -- Bousquet

:37:32.:37:46.

looked good as well. Not taking a breath made the difference.

:37:47.:37:51.

Interesting pictures from six, seven and eight. Then Proud winning the

:37:52.:38:00.

first semifinal. He won by nearly a quarter a second from Bousquet and

:38:01.:38:10.

Cheruti. If you have got a lane, you've got a chance. Lane eight and

:38:11.:38:14.

Lane one were third and second in the semifinal. Don't worry about

:38:15.:38:25.

your own swim. Concentrate on everybody else, you've got a

:38:26.:38:39.

cracking chance. That's interesting. Govorov in Lane 4. Can he beat that?

:38:40.:38:49.

Will he be rattled? I don't think so. They know they've got to do

:38:50.:38:55.

their own thing. We see Laszlo Cseh. He has some medals to his name. A

:38:56.:39:02.

400 medley in the past. There is Govorov, 24 years old. 23.00 to

:39:03.:39:15.

qualify this morning. They know people are coming to them in every

:39:16.:39:22.

lane. They have to stick to their game plan. The voice of Karen

:39:23.:39:30.

Pickering, 38 national titles. Not sure I ever saw her do a 50 metre

:39:31.:39:37.

butterfly. They didn't do 50 metres in those days, did they? Govorov is

:39:38.:39:49.

the fastest qualifier in the second semifinal. Picture. Concentration.

:39:50.:40:08.

Calm, focus. Second semifinal, men's 50 fly. Govorov of the Ukraine was

:40:09.:40:19.

the fastest qualifier out of this series of semifinalists by 0.6

:40:20.:40:23.

seconds in the heats. He's going again. Look at the speed of the

:40:24.:40:28.

turnover. He sticks his head down and goes for the turn so fast. Just

:40:29.:40:35.

took a breath there. Is he going to spot the wall? Not bad. 22.7. That

:40:36.:40:42.

is an amazing swim. A new championship record for Govorov of

:40:43.:40:47.

the Ukraine. Not far from the world record of 22.5. I wonder if we'll

:40:48.:40:54.

see something like that in the swim. That was power. He took more breaths

:40:55.:41:03.

than the Ben Proud. Good start. Quickly away. Much more undulating

:41:04.:41:07.

through the water. Look at the gritted teeth. Love it! He just one

:41:08.:41:23.

that heat by about point eight. A new championship record, 22.7.

:41:24.:41:32.

Second, 23.5. Fascinated to hear what Mark Foster says about that.

:41:33.:41:40.

Ex-world record in this event. Govorov will be a clear favourite in

:41:41.:41:50.

that final tomorrow night. STUDIO: Mark Foster, you are very happy with

:41:51.:41:55.

that is it because you know him and like him because you predicted the

:41:56.:42:03.

time? It was an black and white TV when I did that. I think what I was

:42:04.:42:10.

saying, when I went down a week ago and did some work with him. We did a

:42:11.:42:17.

chat. Seeing what he does in the gym specifically for his event. Watching

:42:18.:42:22.

what he does and how focused he is on it. It's wonderful to see. I was

:42:23.:42:28.

saying to Becky, look at his back. He is just solid. The 50 fly is not

:42:29.:42:35.

in the Olympics, the 50 free is but it shows what shape using. It is a

:42:36.:42:46.

lot of Jim for sprinters. The hours that you spend in the pool. 25 hours

:42:47.:42:52.

a week plus the gym on top of that plus physio and rehab. I went to the

:42:53.:43:00.

gym with Siobhan-Marie O'Connor once, most embarrassing day of my

:43:01.:43:09.

life. Let's see how Fran Halsall will get on now. COMMENTATOR: She

:43:10.:43:17.

has certainly got a medal. At last, a bronze medal for Great Britain.

:43:18.:43:24.

What a double. The 50 freestyle and now the 50 fly. They touch. Fran

:43:25.:43:31.

Halsall is European champion. What a tremendous week. COMMENTATOR: The

:43:32.:43:37.

first semifinal of the women's 50 metres butterfly. Fran Halsall in

:43:38.:43:52.

Lane 5. Nice clean start. This one length butterfly. Of very quick. It

:43:53.:44:04.

is to some and hustle. Fran Halsall is looking very flat and very good.

:44:05.:44:08.

She is the British record-holder. Very good second 25. That is only

:44:09.:44:18.

just outside her Commonwealth and British record. Really impressive

:44:19.:44:27.

indeed. Fran Halsall wins it. There is a good 0.35 between first and

:44:28.:44:35.

second. Surprising how much she took out of her there. We see her pop up

:44:36.:44:40.

pretty well. We see the blue hat from Fran. Ironing out the

:44:41.:44:48.

undulations. All about being flat and through the wall and spotting

:44:49.:44:53.

the wall. Took the first semifinal. The results.

:44:54.:45:05.

The second semifinal, the world record holder goes in four.

:45:06.:45:19.

And not the greatest start, interestingly, right in the centre

:45:20.:45:26.

from Sjoestroem of Sweden, and not the greatest of all, but

:45:27.:45:31.

Kromowidjojo right in the centre, a better start, but coming back now,

:45:32.:45:37.

Sjoestroem, working hard in this 50. Interesting to see, sometimes she

:45:38.:45:41.

does not breathe, she did not when she set the world record, but that

:45:42.:45:47.

looked very hard indeed. 25.42, she has won the second semi, Fran

:45:48.:45:52.

Halsall won in 25.35, Fran Halsall goes into the final fastest ahead of

:45:53.:45:58.

the world record-holder. She will love that. You can see we start, she

:45:59.:46:07.

got away well, but Kromowidjojo underwater much, much stronger, then

:46:08.:46:12.

we see the power of Sjoestroem, so strong. She made hard work of it,

:46:13.:46:16.

having to really fight back against the Dutch girl one lane up, but so

:46:17.:46:23.

flat in the water, she does not breathe in the 50 butterfly. So the

:46:24.:46:27.

results of the second semifinal of the women's 50 metres butterfly.

:46:28.:46:37.

The top three are as expected, but not quite in that order, though. So

:46:38.:46:46.

the qualifiers for the final of the women's 50 metres butterfly, Fran

:46:47.:46:50.

Halsall goes in fastest, Sarah see a strong, the world record-holder, is

:46:51.:46:54.

second. What a final that is going to be. -- Sjoestroem.

:46:55.:47:01.

That was a second best ever time for me, so I do not know where that came

:47:02.:47:06.

from, but I think the fact that we have got this event, UK Bought

:47:07.:47:14.

putting it on, it has put us in good spirits for the rest of the tour,

:47:15.:47:20.

the home crowd is a great advantage. As a sprinter, it is fantastic to

:47:21.:47:24.

have this event as the lead up to Rio. Definitely, you have the top

:47:25.:47:31.

five right here, so to have that going into the Olympics, you cannot

:47:32.:47:35.

ask for anything better. We will see you tomorrow! Yes, you will, thank

:47:36.:47:41.

you, Sharron! Understandably buzzing from that performance, how

:47:42.:47:45.

impressive was that given the competition? She looked an

:47:46.:47:49.

absolutely great shape, I am so pleased for Fran, this will be her

:47:50.:47:53.

third Olympics, she works hard, she has been a great role model, and she

:47:54.:47:58.

is a world-class sprinter, her skills are second to none, and for

:47:59.:48:05.

her to do that, the second fastest time ever, home crowd, should be

:48:06.:48:08.

absolutely buzzing. You have got to take that in hard training, give

:48:09.:48:11.

yourself a pat on the back for that one! The crowd love her, because she

:48:12.:48:17.

is crackers in the best possible way, a great character, a good

:48:18.:48:22.

advert for the sport. A wonderful advert, eight character, and she can

:48:23.:48:26.

be a little bit erratic. I mean, she can be, but on form she is

:48:27.:48:30.

unbelievable. For a lot of people, we have seen it with a lot of

:48:31.:48:33.

swimmers over the years, when you get people who believe in

:48:34.:48:37.

themselves, we all have doubts, but you have to believe in yourself when

:48:38.:48:41.

you step up. When she believes in a cell, she has performances like

:48:42.:48:45.

that, and the only thing missing is the Olympic Games. -- when she

:48:46.:48:51.

believes in herself. She has got the right attitude going into the

:48:52.:48:55.

Olympics. So when is the right time to taper? The Olympics are not far

:48:56.:48:59.

away, we have just had the British trials, how would you get that

:49:00.:49:03.

right, where does the balance come? It is different for every single

:49:04.:49:07.

athlete, and a lot of these guys that are just got back into their

:49:08.:49:11.

hard work after coming back from our Olympic trials, they will just now

:49:12.:49:16.

be peaking upwards into the hard training, and then two or three

:49:17.:49:20.

weeks before the Olympic Games, they start wresting back again. It is a

:49:21.:49:24.

solid block of work they have to do, and especially for the sprinters, it

:49:25.:49:29.

is easy speed, they get natural speed a lot when they rest. The

:49:30.:49:35.

thing is, Fran is not rested, so she should have a massive amount of

:49:36.:49:38.

confidence. She is at best when she is happy and smooth and she does not

:49:39.:49:44.

overthink everything. She doesn't snatch. She holds the water, that is

:49:45.:49:49.

a big thing, you have just got to relax for the first couple of

:49:50.:49:53.

strokes, your adrenaline is pumping, slow things down. The fact that

:49:54.:49:58.

every day, every session, you can do quite a lot of sprinting at your

:49:59.:50:03.

pace and your distance, so Becky can do 800 as a pace all the time, it

:50:04.:50:09.

would kill her! We talk about Hannah Miley, we have one medal in the pool

:50:10.:50:14.

already, a silver medal for Scotland's Hannah Miley, they she is

:50:15.:50:18.

receiving it for the 400 metres individual medley. We love Hannah

:50:19.:50:23.

Miley. She is my age! Why did she look so young and I look so old?!

:50:24.:50:30.

Budgie is just a little rocket, she is one of that people that has been

:50:31.:50:35.

so throughout her whole career. She really deserves it, she is such a

:50:36.:50:40.

great role model. That was won by Katinka Hosszu, the world champion,

:50:41.:50:44.

no surprise, so what does that mean in turn of the Olympics and the

:50:45.:50:48.

world stage, can she be on the podium? Definitely, she has proved

:50:49.:50:57.

it, she has been unfortunate not to be added best and other people

:50:58.:51:00.

peaking at the right time. At the Olympic Games, she has had fifth and

:51:01.:51:07.

sixth, but on the right day, 4.35 is not 1 million miles away from where

:51:08.:51:11.

she needs to be, so she is there, she just needs to keep doing that.

:51:12.:51:15.

She looks so much stronger than before, but she looks much stronger.

:51:16.:51:24.

We will turn our attention to the women's 4x100m relay, no British

:51:25.:51:28.

interest, but it is a final, here it is.

:51:29.:51:40.

And in lane four, the fastest qualifiers, unfortunately Great

:51:41.:51:43.

Britain just missed out, they were ninth after the heats this morning.

:51:44.:51:47.

But the Dutch team really are very powerful indeed, but fascinating,

:51:48.:51:54.

right on the outside, up in lane eight, the Swedish team are going to

:51:55.:52:01.

be starting with Sjoestroem, world number three, the European

:52:02.:52:04.

individual champion, she will be right at the top of the shot.

:52:05.:52:11.

Finland are in lane one, then Spain, Denmark, the favourites of the

:52:12.:52:15.

Netherlands in three. Sweden at the top. Well, we fully expect

:52:16.:52:22.

Sjoestroem, the number three, the European champion, the World

:52:23.:52:25.

Championships other medallists to guard very fast indeed. She has had

:52:26.:52:31.

a decent start at the top. Of course, she swam the 50 butterfly

:52:32.:52:35.

already in this session, so we would expect her to be feeling it a little

:52:36.:52:40.

bit, but the tactics are to put their fastest swimmer off first, get

:52:41.:52:45.

out in front, and they are doing that, 25.78 at the 50 metres mark. A

:52:46.:52:53.

very fast first 50, and she is really working this second 50, not

:52:54.:52:56.

leading the rest of the field as much as I thought she might. Going

:52:57.:53:01.

well in the centre, in lane three, is Team Denmark. Right at the top,

:53:02.:53:09.

Sjoestroem was first, yes, Sweden first, Denmark were second, third is

:53:10.:53:20.

Holland. 54.6, 53.4 from Sjoestroem, not bad at all. Pretty good for your

:53:21.:53:25.

second swim of the night, she was feeling it in the last five or six

:53:26.:53:30.

metres there, but no surprise that she is tough in the freestyle

:53:31.:53:37.

events. So she was leading, the Swedish swimmer, but the fantastic

:53:38.:53:45.

Duchess printer, at the World Championships last year she was

:53:46.:53:49.

fifth, and she really has had a fantastic first 75 metres. --

:53:50.:53:55.

fantastic Dutch sprinter. She is leading by a metre or so on the rest

:53:56.:54:00.

of the field. At the halfway mark, it is Holland leading in first

:54:01.:54:07.

place, Sweden in second, maybe just in lane five, that is Team Italy,

:54:08.:54:13.

and they come through very well. Pellegrini on the last leg, that

:54:14.:54:16.

will be very interesting for the Italians. Opposite tactics for the

:54:17.:54:21.

Italians, putting their fastest swimmer last, Sweden starting with

:54:22.:54:25.

theirs. The Netherlands have got talent the whole way through, they

:54:26.:54:29.

really have a great history of freestyle swimming and relay

:54:30.:54:35.

results. Kromowidjojo will be anchoring the team for the

:54:36.:54:39.

Netherlands, the Olympic champion, 1500 freestyle, part of the World

:54:40.:54:46.

Championship winning team at the World Championships a few years ago

:54:47.:54:50.

now, the Dutch team has really picked up a number of medals over

:54:51.:54:59.

the years. The great Olympic champion on the 50 and the 100,

:55:00.:55:05.

surely they cannot be beaten now, Kromowidjojo goes in for Holland,

:55:06.:55:09.

they are leading. Second, maybe still Sweden, that is a surprise.

:55:10.:55:14.

Now, in the centre, can Federica Pellegrini of Italy catch up? This

:55:15.:55:20.

is really tight. It is about the minor medals, isn't it? Kromowidjojo

:55:21.:55:25.

absolutely out on her own, Sweden still in the race, in second place,

:55:26.:55:29.

France in third. Sweden have come back strong, but can Charlotte

:55:30.:55:34.

Bonnet fourth France get in the mix? This is a battle, Italy are still

:55:35.:55:40.

fighting, it is for the minor medals, the Dutch girls are way out

:55:41.:55:45.

in front. Gold for Holland in the relay, but silver and bronze are so

:55:46.:55:51.

tight, Pellegrini coming back, will she steal silver? Gold goes to

:55:52.:55:55.

Holland, silver goes to Italy, and amazing final leg from the Italian,

:55:56.:55:59.

they have got gold and bronze in this session already, what a great

:56:00.:56:03.

swim for them. No doubt about the winner, the Olympic champion on the

:56:04.:56:08.

50, Jelavic champion over the 100, Kromowidjojo brought it back for

:56:09.:56:11.

Holland in emphatic style. -- the Olympic champion. A massive, massive

:56:12.:56:19.

robbery, I would suggest, for the bronze medal, Sweden, eighth

:56:20.:56:26.

fastest, getting bronze. It was all about their lead-off swimmer,

:56:27.:56:29.

Sjoestroem did her stuff, leading by example, but a great finish by

:56:30.:56:34.

Hanson as well to bring them home. But Pellegrini, wow, first time we

:56:35.:56:38.

have seen a swim at these championships, she loves a relay.

:56:39.:56:41.

The start, of course, Sjoestroem right at the top, great start for

:56:42.:56:50.

Sweden. Holland way out in front, Kromowidjojo with her first gold

:56:51.:56:54.

medal of these championships, I doubt it will be the last.

:56:55.:57:03.

So she brings back team Holland, gold for them, Italy take silver,

:57:04.:57:12.

Sweden the bronze. We turn our attention to the men's

:57:13.:57:18.

4x100m final, Mark was busy making notes! In the room, Mark! Not the

:57:19.:57:23.

best swim from our boys this morning, what did you make of it? It

:57:24.:57:29.

was not the best swim! We have not got the four good guys in the 100

:57:30.:57:33.

metres freestyle, we have got two guys, they will just get in and see

:57:34.:57:38.

what they can do. The important thing is racing, getting the

:57:39.:57:43.

experience, the 200 guys, it is speed work for them. Benjamin Proud

:57:44.:57:46.

and Duncan Scott, they will be vying for the 100 metres freestyle spot in

:57:47.:57:58.

the medley relay in Rio. How will Proud be doing? He has already been

:57:59.:58:03.

in the pool. You has only done one length! Being a sprinter, it is not

:58:04.:58:08.

likely that they will get a medal in this, but it is a great opportunity

:58:09.:58:11.

for the 200 boys to get in the relay, doing the takeovers, good

:58:12.:58:18.

practice for the four by 200, where they are really strong, and they are

:58:19.:58:21.

racing against the best in the world. Right, OK, now that we have

:58:22.:58:30.

really big them up, let's see how they get on!

:58:31.:58:38.

Thank you, Helen, Mark, Team Greece just being paraded, they are in lane

:58:39.:58:53.

number two. Great Britain will be in lane eight, right at the top of the

:58:54.:58:58.

shot. Here is the Romanians in lane six, fourth fastest qualifiers for

:58:59.:59:05.

the final. They are right next to Italy, then Belgium coming out next.

:59:06.:59:15.

Interestingly, the tactics from the Italians. They have got a strong

:59:16.:59:20.

team, the world number two leading it off, but a fantastic swimmer to

:59:21.:59:29.

anchor the team. They have got that talent. He has been swimming so many

:59:30.:59:36.

years for the Italians, he keeps producing results. When you have got

:59:37.:59:39.

someone with that experience to go on the end of your team, you can

:59:40.:59:43.

start with a faster swimmer as well. France, well, what a class team they

:59:44.:59:48.

have been over the years. They have had their moments, haven't they,

:59:49.:59:51.

when they have been favourite, and you just think, and amazing team but

:59:52.:59:57.

they have not delivered? So Great Britain sneaked into the final in

:59:58.:00:03.

eighth place in lane eight, France fastest qualifier in four. I wonder

:00:04.:00:06.

which team we will see for them here. They have the quality, and

:00:07.:00:11.

they have had that over the years, but they don't always deliver the

:00:12.:00:15.

results. A little bit crazy, the French, or not they?

:00:16.:00:24.

Great Britain at the top. Robbie Rennick leading off. The final of

:00:25.:00:41.

the men's four by 100 metres freestyle relay. A very good start

:00:42.:00:44.

by the Italians. It is, as expected, Dotto. Really high in the water.

:00:45.:01:14.

Like a powerboat using that leg kick to skirt over the top of the water.

:01:15.:01:20.

Can Dotto hold this pace? He's looking strong in the closing stages

:01:21.:01:30.

of his leg. Very tight takeover. Italy first, Belgium second, third

:01:31.:01:34.

room mania. Great Britain look like they are six or seven at the moment.

:01:35.:01:47.

-- third room mania. You don't want to be diving into that kind of wave

:01:48.:01:52.

that really rocks you around. The tactics on the men's freestyle relay

:01:53.:01:59.

are so important. Again, straight arm stroke you see of these

:02:00.:02:04.

sprinters. It's not pretty but it is strong and effective. Fascinating

:02:05.:02:09.

from the French in the centre, starting to come back. It's going to

:02:10.:02:16.

be Italy. Another tight takeover. The halfway mark. Italy first, front

:02:17.:02:21.

second and starting to turn it on now. They've caught up the Italians

:02:22.:02:27.

so fast. Great swim from Gilot, a great part of their

:02:28.:02:49.

relay over the years. Again, not pretty. On the water. That power

:02:50.:02:58.

pushing through. Making the most of every leg pull. The race is all

:02:59.:03:04.

about efficiency. About half a metre between the two of them as they

:03:05.:03:09.

touched. Look at the start from the Italian. That is Magnini in Lane 5

:03:10.:03:23.

in the dark hat. Greece doing well in Lane 2. A fascinating last 50.

:03:24.:03:32.

Where did they come from? Will it be the French pulling away? Did Magnini

:03:33.:03:37.

go too fast in the first 50. Paying the price now. Mignon may have paced

:03:38.:03:50.

it a bit better. France win gold, silver is so second. It was Italy, I

:03:51.:04:02.

think. In Lane 5. Really close. 100th of a second ahead of Belgium.

:04:03.:04:10.

In fourth, so close, what a shame it was for Greece. Great Britain

:04:11.:04:21.

finished seventh. Well, what a swim from Greece. Surprised that they

:04:22.:04:26.

were in the mix in the closing stages. Dotto got the Italians off

:04:27.:04:42.

to a fantastic start. Manaudou got the French back in it. Flo Mo! Have

:04:43.:04:53.

to give him a nickname. Magnini wasn't moving in the last metres.

:04:54.:05:00.

Not surprising because he went off like a shot. Italy beat Belgium by

:05:01.:05:08.

one 100th into the silver medal. Great Britain coming seventh.

:05:09.:05:18.

STUDIO: Not great but let's not forget British team is the gold

:05:19.:05:25.

medallist in the 200 meter relay. Now let's turn to the 100 metre

:05:26.:05:33.

men's but strokes. Including this man. COMMENTATOR: Vili powering

:05:34.:05:46.

ahead. He looks like he means business. Brilliant gold.

:05:47.:06:07.

Interesting starts in the backstroke allowed down.

:06:08.:06:23.

Looking good is Christou of Greece. Executed well, it is beautiful to

:06:24.:06:32.

watch. The power they have in their shoulders. Great underwater work

:06:33.:06:42.

from Christou. Walker-Hebburn a bit off the pace at the moment. Christou

:06:43.:06:51.

is going well at the moment but the rest of the field, it is tight. It

:06:52.:06:55.

looks like Christou is going to take it. Very fast indeed. Second the

:06:56.:07:07.

Italian. Walker-Hebburn was fourth. A dangerous place to finish in the

:07:08.:07:13.

first semifinal. Conor Ferguson, 54.9 nine. Just outside the time he

:07:14.:07:21.

needed to qualify. If it was me, I'd take him anyway, at 16 years of age.

:07:22.:07:28.

One to watch for the future. As we watch a replay of that finish.

:07:29.:07:44.

Walker-Hebborn was fourth. Second semifinal of the men's 100 metres

:07:45.:07:46.

backstroke. I'm not sure if you sure the bar on

:07:47.:07:59.

the wall. You can put your feet on a little bar which really does help.

:08:00.:08:04.

Used to slip a lot down the wall. Now they have a bar to keep it

:08:05.:08:09.

steady. Pretty steady in this second semifinal. As expected, a good start

:08:10.:08:23.

coming from Lacourt. Should be strong in the closing stages. Has a

:08:24.:08:29.

lovely strong stroke. Actually, very close across this. It could go

:08:30.:08:40.

anywhere. Also dangerous to Walker-Hebborn who finished in

:08:41.:08:43.

fourth in that first semifinal. Coming through in Lane 3, the

:08:44.:08:50.

Russian wins it. That is very close indeed. Lacourt was second. Goodness

:08:51.:09:12.

me. It is tight. Beautiful work from the backstroke underwater. It was so

:09:13.:09:25.

close, reaching for the wall. The results of the second semifinal. The

:09:26.:09:38.

final places very tight indeed. The qualifiers for the final. Look at

:09:39.:09:45.

that, Shane Ryan has made it into the final. A great swim from the new

:09:46.:09:54.

final record holder. No place in the final four Walker-Hebborn. A lot of

:09:55.:10:04.

pressure when it's a home crowd. Definitely. I want to give these

:10:05.:10:09.

guys what they pay for. Obviously, our focus is the Olympics. I gave

:10:10.:10:15.

that my all. 54.7 is pretty good considering where I am in training.

:10:16.:10:21.

At the same time I'm not disappointed. New technology getting

:10:22.:10:28.

the time. Is it something you have to adapt to. It's great that the

:10:29.:10:34.

backstroke wedge is used everywhere. It is standard now. I love it. It

:10:35.:10:40.

takes out the element of slipping. You don't have to worry about it.

:10:41.:10:45.

I'm glad it's here. Back to more hard work now. That's all right.

:10:46.:10:57.

Walker-Hebborn failing to make the final there. It feels like that

:10:58.:11:03.

people are either smashing it or the opposite of smashing it. I saw Chris

:11:04.:11:10.

earlier and he looked shattered. He said he was going back for a nap.

:11:11.:11:14.

These guys are seriously hard training. You said he hadn't

:11:15.:11:20.

arrested at all. Really struggling, just giving it his best shot.

:11:21.:11:25.

Unfortunately, when you are not on form in hard training, it's not

:11:26.:11:29.

easy, speed. It's a lot of hard work. It's difficult to talk about

:11:30.:11:35.

Olympians having a four-year cycle and expecting them to big a couple

:11:36.:11:39.

of months before a massive competition. Explain what shaved

:11:40.:11:52.

down means. I let Mark explain that. When coming to a major competition,

:11:53.:11:59.

at the beginning of the season, when you come to be, you do less and less

:12:00.:12:04.

but more quality work. The last thing you do properly before you

:12:05.:12:11.

race is people shave, they get a shave and shave all the hair off

:12:12.:12:15.

their legs. The sensation in the water is just of flying and sliding

:12:16.:12:21.

through the water. That is when you are at your peak and the icing on

:12:22.:12:27.

the cake. Especially for the guys who can only wear jammers. You have

:12:28.:12:34.

to consciously make an effort to do it. It's a mental thing, not just

:12:35.:12:41.

physical. You feel better once you have shaved down and you feel

:12:42.:12:47.

smoother in the water. Adam Peaty is leaps and bounds ahead of the rest

:12:48.:12:50.

of the world. He is absolutely flying. Some coaches will give them

:12:51.:13:01.

a bit of a rest. If they have a peek, why come here? It is pointless

:13:02.:13:08.

to try and use it as a training week. Have a competition. Get on the

:13:09.:13:13.

block and get confidence. Come away with some decent times. Cyclists

:13:14.:13:21.

talk about marginal gains. It makes the world of difference. The tiniest

:13:22.:13:27.

bit of leg hair. Let's talk about the women's 200 meter backstroke. In

:13:28.:13:32.

the first semifinal Kathleen Dawson and Charlotte Evans. They finished

:13:33.:13:41.

sixth and eight in this one. So, this was the first of two

:13:42.:13:52.

semifinals. It meant that... Is the second semifinal. The Hungarian once

:13:53.:14:01.

again one mess. Hosszu, the world champion, the iron Lady. An

:14:02.:14:06.

incredible athlete. This is the qualifying. The British girls just

:14:07.:14:12.

outside the qualification. It is still only day one. We will see how

:14:13.:14:17.

the rest of the week pans out. We keep talking of the Olympics. The

:14:18.:14:22.

ladies and gentleman who will be on the plane representing British

:14:23.:14:30.

women. About a month ago, the British trials happened which means

:14:31.:14:35.

all of the British team were selected. 26 will be on the plane

:14:36.:14:42.

heading to South America. COMMENTATOR: Absolutely world-class.

:14:43.:14:52.

Fabulous swim. Punches the air. Superb therefrom Chloe Tottenham.

:14:53.:15:07.

Tutton. Adam Peaty, what are swim! Can't complain. The main job was to

:15:08.:15:13.

qualify. Really happy. Absolutely superb swim from Shuttleworth. He's

:15:14.:15:19.

taken 20 seconds off his personal best. A girl who missed out on going

:15:20.:15:26.

to the Olympics in London. It means so much to me. I'm moody, emotional,

:15:27.:15:33.

all sorts. To come away with the time on my last swim is an amazing

:15:34.:15:40.

relief. Max Litchfield can touch down his passport. He's going to

:15:41.:15:45.

Rio. More than good enough to get on the plane. Hannah Miley is going to

:15:46.:15:51.

touch here. Inside the qualification time for the big games. Then Proud

:15:52.:15:56.

is going to be British champion. Excellent swim.

:15:57.:16:02.

Those were the faces, these are the names, what you make of the team,

:16:03.:16:09.

some star names that people will recognise, who is likely to be on

:16:10.:16:15.

the podium? You have got names like Fran Halsall, Adam Peaty, Jazz

:16:16.:16:19.

Carlin, but what was great from the trials is that we were introduced to

:16:20.:16:27.

new swimmers, Chloe Tutton, guys who swam their hearts out to make the

:16:28.:16:30.

team, they fully deserved their spot-on the team as well. Yeah, she

:16:31.:16:36.

has said the names, but what is really exciting is, I went to five

:16:37.:16:42.

Olympics, then I saw Becky in 2012, now we are sitting up here, but I

:16:43.:16:46.

have never gone into the Olympics in, I would kind of give them a gold

:16:47.:16:51.

medal already. But having Adam Peaty at there as your leader, and what I

:16:52.:16:58.

have found, being in the team, it spreads believe that somebody can do

:16:59.:17:01.

it, you can do it. They are not all going to do it, but we have got such

:17:02.:17:08.

good depth, James Guy has a couple of good races coming, depth across

:17:09.:17:11.

the board. They are not going to come back with bags full of gold

:17:12.:17:15.

medals, but we have got strength in depth, which is very exciting. What

:17:16.:17:20.

about notable absentees? There are names you might have expected to

:17:21.:17:26.

see, who is not on the list? Obviously, Michael Jamieson, silver

:17:27.:17:31.

medal in London, he just missed out. Liam Tancock, Lizzie Simmonds are

:17:32.:17:35.

not there, they just missed out on the team, it was a very strict

:17:36.:17:44.

selection policy, you had to hit a certain time, it was guys within 2%

:17:45.:17:47.

of that time who were able to go. Then a few wild cards, Dan Wallace

:17:48.:17:50.

did not have a great trials, but he got a wild card because of his

:17:51.:17:54.

performances last year out of the World Championships. You know what?

:17:55.:17:57.

They decided they wanted on the team as an option the relay. It is a

:17:58.:18:01.

shame they did not have a few more wild cards to give younger guys the

:18:02.:18:08.

opportunity to go to the Olympics. You have also got to remember, the

:18:09.:18:14.

four year cycle, Michael Jamieson had a silver medal, we thought he

:18:15.:18:18.

would move onto other things, but staying at that high injuries come

:18:19.:18:23.

in, it is hard on the body and hard on the mind. Some people fall off.

:18:24.:18:29.

Tancock has been around for a long time, we knew his body was giving

:18:30.:18:33.

in, but it is a surprise not to see him. The body starts speaking to him

:18:34.:18:39.

three months to early, I would say. You talk about wild cards, but apart

:18:40.:18:44.

from that, it is tough to make the team, there is only one chance to

:18:45.:18:49.

qualify. Other countries are not that harsh, is it harsh? It is, it

:18:50.:18:54.

is kind of how they look at it, you get one shot at the Olympic Games,

:18:55.:18:59.

one opportunity to win the Mall at the Olympics. So we should do that

:19:00.:19:04.

at trials, have that high pressure situation with one chance to

:19:05.:19:08.

qualify. That is why they do it, it is a smaller team than London, but

:19:09.:19:13.

we have not got a home Olympics. It is all focused on medals, the times

:19:14.:19:18.

were difficult to qualify, but it is about focusing. In the past, we have

:19:19.:19:22.

had swimmers who have said, it is my dream to make the team! It should be

:19:23.:19:26.

your dream to get on the podium. It is, it is true! It does, it happens,

:19:27.:19:32.

and I think we need to change the mentality in Britain, and we're not

:19:33.:19:36.

going to do that unless we make it tough for these guys to qualify.

:19:37.:19:40.

Even this week, we are going to see some top racing, that is what they

:19:41.:19:43.

were allowed to do in three months' time. Looking deeper, only about 30

:19:44.:19:53.

people go, if they don't go now, they have to wait another four years

:19:54.:19:57.

to go. The swimmers have been selected, but

:19:58.:20:01.

the divers have not, they really needed to pull it out of the bag,

:20:02.:20:05.

and they certainly did that. I caught up with Tom Daley at the end

:20:06.:20:09.

of the championships, we will hear from him in a few minutes, but let's

:20:10.:20:14.

celebrate their success. At the end of the week, they topped the medal

:20:15.:20:18.

table, three gold, five silver, three bronze, and they were actually

:20:19.:20:23.

crowned diving team of Europe, let's celebrate their success.

:20:24.:20:34.

A hop, skip and jump, oh, what a dive! Yeah! Incredible finish, Tom

:20:35.:20:48.

Daley and Reid! Phenomenal, that will be good enough for the silver.

:20:49.:20:52.

Yes, yes! Exceptional! The British team are on their feet,

:20:53.:21:08.

the coaches are smiling. Supreme diving from Tom Daley. China,

:21:09.:21:09.

beware! Yes! Spectacular finish! Fair to say a very successful

:21:10.:21:25.

European Championships, two gold, one silver, how happy are you? I am

:21:26.:21:29.

over the moon with the way the week has gone, it is amazing being able

:21:30.:21:34.

to dive in front of the home crowd, and the pool has so many memories. I

:21:35.:21:39.

train here everyday, it is where I won Olympic bronze, it is so nice to

:21:40.:21:43.

train in front of your friends and family. It is the most fun ever.

:21:44.:21:52.

Your mum is over there, she must be the most nervous woman in Britain.

:21:53.:21:55.

She has got nerves of steel, she just says there and claps along. The

:21:56.:22:00.

head of British swimming came over, he said, Tom did well? Yeah, he did

:22:01.:22:06.

all right. It was very nearly three gold medals. It was very close in

:22:07.:22:12.

the synchro, 0.94 away from gold, a bit frustrating, it could have been

:22:13.:22:16.

a hat-trick, but I am over the moon. In terms of the individual event,

:22:17.:22:21.

how nerve wracking is it for you? You were in the competition, you are

:22:22.:22:25.

at there, are you aware of what he has done in his diet? I am

:22:26.:22:29.

completely aware of every diver, because I love to know exactly what

:22:30.:22:35.

I needed you, watch their scores, and then when I go to the end of the

:22:36.:22:40.

board, it is about making sure I do better. If I see that they get 9.9,

:22:41.:22:46.

then I need ten. It gives me a bit more adrenaline. Your second dive,

:22:47.:22:51.

you are the only person who does that, your face when you set off was

:22:52.:22:53.

a picture. That makes breaks become petition

:22:54.:23:03.

for me, it is my newest dive, it is risky to do, but I had to do it,

:23:04.:23:08.

because my old twister was just horrendous. I had to change it and

:23:09.:23:12.

do something slightly different. For me, it is about making sure I get

:23:13.:23:16.

the start right. If I do, everything else flows, but it was terrifying on

:23:17.:23:25.

the top of the board, I knew Victor had done a terrific dive, and I had

:23:26.:23:33.

to do it better. This is a sport that favours the brave, last time

:23:34.:23:38.

around you to two medals, this time ten, how is the mood? The last

:23:39.:23:44.

Europeans were the most successful, two medals, and now we have won ten,

:23:45.:23:49.

and it just shows that British diving is in really strong condition

:23:50.:23:53.

leading into the 2016 Olympics games, and it is really exciting.

:23:54.:23:58.

Are you thinking about Rio now, or just celebrating a brilliant week?

:23:59.:24:02.

There is not a second of the day goes by when you are not thinking

:24:03.:24:07.

about Rio. How much you sleep, how much you eat, the training you do,

:24:08.:24:12.

it is all geared to one moment in Rio in the competition, making all

:24:13.:24:17.

those dives count. It has put us in a good position, like, you know, it

:24:18.:24:22.

is a subjective sport, so for the judges to be able to see us doing so

:24:23.:24:27.

well overall as a team, fingers got for this competition, but we have

:24:28.:24:31.

won overall European diving team title, so really exciting. I will

:24:32.:24:36.

keep my fingers crossed, it is looking good. Congratulations this

:24:37.:24:40.

week, good luck for the next few months. Thank you very much. Do not

:24:41.:24:45.

adjust your telly, the colours are not broken, that was yesterday, this

:24:46.:24:49.

is today! Plenty more action in the pool tomorrow, if you want to join

:24:50.:24:53.

us tomorrow, then crowd goes in the 50 metres butterfly final... -- Ben

:24:54.:24:59.

Proud. It is all about a lad from Derby

:25:00.:25:14.

with massive guns! Adam Peaty is a very rare athlete,

:25:15.:25:37.

one of our greatest ever, he is a privilege to watch, just to be able

:25:38.:25:43.

to say that I know him. The months before the world record in April, I

:25:44.:25:47.

knew he was capable of doing something. Goodness me, he wins the

:25:48.:25:53.

gold! Just so pleased for the little bad that I had coached from the age

:25:54.:25:57.

of 14 with a bad haircut. Very special moment for me. The pressure

:25:58.:26:04.

was on him when he went to the World Championships. He was the number

:26:05.:26:07.

one, he had broken the world record, and he was now the guy to watch. The

:26:08.:26:14.

50 metres breaststroke, just insane. Ears very well placed at this

:26:15.:26:22.

stage... He swam his perfect race. That was certainly a crowd pleaser.

:26:23.:26:27.

What a superstar! From a coaching point of view, the 100 metres was

:26:28.:26:38.

not easy to watch. This is a very big lead... I was cheering and

:26:39.:26:42.

screaming, thinking, he is not going to do it! Then he does it. He has

:26:43.:26:49.

got it on the very last stroke. For him to cope with the pressure in his

:26:50.:26:52.

first World Championships, at the age of just 20, that is when he

:26:53.:26:57.

became a man for me. What an athlete, and what a year he

:26:58.:27:03.

had lasted, look at your faces! I love them two, they are amazing,

:27:04.:27:07.

such a perfect team together, and I am so pleased for Adam, he deserves

:27:08.:27:12.

everything, he works so hard, him and his coach are such a

:27:13.:27:16.

combination, honestly, they are hilarious to watch, they need their

:27:17.:27:20.

own reality show, they are so funny together. I really hope he does it

:27:21.:27:24.

at the Olympic Games, that is the only one missing from his

:27:25.:27:28.

collection, then he would have the whole set. Before that, the

:27:29.:27:32.

Europeans tomorrow night, you know what he is capable of, how excited

:27:33.:27:37.

should we be? Up their area excited. You don't seem it! I am very

:27:38.:27:47.

excited. I think he will win it, win it by a bit. He has got all the

:27:48.:27:51.

experience, then it is all about Rio, bottom line, we all know that,

:27:52.:27:56.

but at the moment he is on fire, and I think, as Mel says, you are not

:27:57.:28:02.

melt anymore, you are Becky! He is a very special person, you get the

:28:03.:28:06.

combination of a special person, the athlete and the coach, it is

:28:07.:28:10.

beautiful. If you want to tune in tomorrow to see how he gets on, you

:28:11.:28:17.

can, we are on BBC Two from 6:30, and you can tune in via the red

:28:18.:28:22.

button from six o'clock. Thank you for your company this afternoon! We

:28:23.:28:25.

are all going to sit in a freezer, it is so hot here, that explains why

:28:26.:28:30.

we are slightly crazy. See you tomorrow, bye-bye!

:28:31.:29:02.

This could be the game of the season.

:29:03.:29:04.

There's going to be fireworks. A repeat of the 1990 final.

:29:05.:29:06.

What do you mean, Wigan aren't playing, cocker?!

:29:07.:29:09.

Connor Wickham! It's got penalties written all over it.

:29:10.:29:12.

Brilliant save! I reckon England will win the FA Cup.

:29:13.:29:15.

I think they'll take it this year. Yeah...

:29:16.:29:18.
