There is an overwhelming force that accompanies the Williams sisters. I

:00:46.:00:47.

should know. This must be so difficult for

:00:48.:01:01.

Lindsay Davenport. First, there is the power. Brutal serving, vicious

:01:02.:01:07.

ground strokes. You hit it hard, they hated backorder. Next, there is

:01:08.:01:16.

the speed. They are athletes. Not quite as fast as years gone by, but

:01:17.:01:20.

if you think they are past it, get real. That is the point. To them,

:01:21.:01:26.

experience is no enemy. It is their best friend. They have been there,

:01:27.:01:33.

done it and when it all. They are beatable, everybody is, but trust

:01:34.:01:39.

me, it is more than a game when you are up against Venus or Serena.

:01:40.:01:43.

Standing in the way of them, a first singles semifinal for Elena Vesnina

:01:44.:01:53.

and a player who is finding her place at the top table at it more

:01:54.:01:57.

comfortable, Angellica Bell, who beat Serena in the final at

:01:58.:02:01.

Melbourne. Welcome to our platform, looking down on Centre Court and No

:02:02.:02:09.

one Court. Great words. You do yourself a disservice, because Wendy

:02:10.:02:12.

won in 1999, you beat one of the greatest players in the final,

:02:13.:02:18.

Steffi Graf. You get a little lucky now and then. It was a different

:02:19.:02:24.

era. Once Venus and Serena came, they changed the way grass court

:02:25.:02:30.

tennis was played on the women's side. Martina Navratilova came

:02:31.:02:33.

forward, Venus and Serena have dominated with their power, it was

:02:34.:02:38.

so tough to defend against. Everybody else has to step up to

:02:39.:02:43.

keep pace with them. They do, they have changed the face of women's

:02:44.:02:48.

tennis. They have so much power through the court, and the most

:02:49.:02:52.

beautiful service motions that get in so many free points, they can

:02:53.:02:56.

take driver volleys out of the air, and their movement on the court. All

:02:57.:03:02.

of us were shocked by the boxer type Speaker pages to have, their

:03:03.:03:06.

overflowing self-confidence. But they have mellowed a bit, they have

:03:07.:03:14.

mature on the tour, they have been easier around the other players than

:03:15.:03:19.

when they first burst out. The question everybody was asking, did

:03:20.:03:25.

the a first... A first semifinal for Venus, the first since being

:03:26.:03:28.

diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder. Could it be her first

:03:29.:03:40.

final for ages? As far as Angelique Kerber was concerned, could she be

:03:41.:03:43.

the first German in the final since Steffi Graf 20 years ago?

:03:44.:03:48.

Venus Williams, the kid from Compton with no family history in tennis.

:03:49.:03:54.

Venus Williams, the kid from Compton who became the Queen of Wimbledon.

:03:55.:03:58.

This her 19th Wimbledon, a champion five times, but not since 2008.

:03:59.:04:08.

Venus Williams is the champion. For the fifth time at Wimbledon. She

:04:09.:04:14.

reigns supreme. At 36, the matriarch of matchplay. In her way, the up and

:04:15.:04:20.

coming star, Angelique Kerber, winner of the Australian Open, she

:04:21.:04:24.

has been in sparkling form this year. The fourth seed is the only

:04:25.:04:30.

player not to drop a set so far at the Championships this year. It is

:04:31.:04:35.

always good to win matches into sets. I know how to play on grass,

:04:36.:04:41.

to win against good players. I am looking forward to the next

:04:42.:04:46.

challenge. I still feel 26. You have this infinity that feels like you

:04:47.:04:51.

could go forever. Could Venus rising curb her enthusiasm?

:04:52.:04:56.

The Sun was shining as they walked out onto Centre Court, the stage was

:04:57.:05:04.

set. Venus looking cool and calm, she has been here many times before,

:05:05.:05:08.

her mother knows what it is like to sit and support both of her

:05:09.:05:12.

daughters. It was a nervous start for both players, no holds of set's

:05:13.:05:17.

holds of serve in the first four games.

:05:18.:05:22.

We are going to join it with Venus Williams about to serve.

:05:23.:05:51.

A fine serve. Venus' favourite serve on the outside. Kerber should move

:05:52.:06:01.

over a bit to her right. Venus like that with a bit of spin to swing

:06:02.:06:04.

away from the two hander. Neither player happy with the way

:06:05.:07:03.

they have started. Not yet. Not quite found the nice groove.

:07:04.:07:32.

A good shot from Kerber. Williams making her way in. For so long

:07:33.:07:45.

people thought of Kerber as a defensive, reactive counterpuncher.

:07:46.:07:50.

She really becomes offensive on the stretch.

:07:51.:08:13.

What a shot, five breaks of serve in a row.

:08:14.:08:26.

Kerber serve for the set, Venus is nothing if not a fighter, and for

:08:27.:08:34.

every shot at Kerber made, she bashed it back. This was the longest

:08:35.:08:38.

rally of the first set, but Kerber took it 6-4. Let's join it at the

:08:39.:08:42.

start of the second. Great retrieving from Kerber. But to

:08:43.:09:27.

no avail. You could hear her say no when she

:09:28.:10:41.

hit the forehand. She did not need to see where it landed. Just not

:10:42.:10:47.

trusting the forehand today. Kerber is keeping her on the move.

:10:48.:11:12.

For the fifth break of the Williams serve. She had a 30-0 lead this

:11:13.:11:17.

game. There is no control.

:11:18.:11:49.

A good break by Kerber, and important. After that, both players

:11:50.:11:54.

started to settle, with some great rallies. The wingspan of Venus

:11:55.:11:59.

counteracted by the fast feet of Kerber, she kept Venus guessing.

:12:00.:12:11.

Let's rejoin commentary with Venus serving.

:12:12.:12:32.

You can see that Venus is trying different things, trying to move

:12:33.:12:39.

forward, into the net 15 times today. Well played. That has a

:12:40.:12:55.

lovely flowing shot. Just can't string enough of these points

:12:56.:12:56.

together. There we go again. Did you see the

:12:57.:13:43.

improvisational skills from Kerber? Completely stopped. Changed her

:13:44.:13:47.

swing path. It is in. A shake of the head,

:13:48.:14:05.

misjudgement. Another break point. It is corrected. Kerber is going to

:14:06.:14:43.

challenge. Interestingly, she believes this is out. She is wrong.

:14:44.:15:04.

Miss Kerber has two challenges remaining. Will that be an important

:15:05.:15:08.

reprieve? Better volleying. So necessary at

:15:09.:15:45.

this time. Just feel like Venus needs to win this game to hang in.

:15:46.:15:50.

Before the school board gets away from her.

:15:51.:16:00.

It did look a tired shot. If you see your opponent on the full stretch,

:16:01.:16:09.

expect a short shot. Very slow first step.

:16:10.:16:42.

She just can't put Kerber away. Astonishing work from the German.

:16:43.:16:57.

Another forehand into the net. Kerber will extract unforced errors

:16:58.:16:59.

from her opponent. It is too good. So smart to come

:17:00.:17:38.

forward, Venus did not want another 14 shot rally like the previous one.

:17:39.:17:46.

The unforced errors starting to mount up, 21 for Venus. Seventh

:17:47.:18:21.

Kerber. Well done. The crowd latching onto

:18:22.:18:48.

anything they can from Williams, they want this to be a contest.

:18:49.:19:22.

A champion's mentality, really digging deep.

:19:23.:19:33.

She holds, but there is hardly any joy in it. She is looking very weary

:19:34.:19:47.

as she trudges to her chair. She may have been looking query, but

:19:48.:19:52.

that was an important hold. She is just one break down. Angelique

:19:53.:19:58.

Kerber now serving for a place in her first Wimbledon final.

:19:59.:20:10.

It was on the line. She has three challenges.

:20:11.:21:06.

Steady as she goes. Two match points.

:21:07.:21:51.

It is amazing. To beat Venus, it is always a really tough match. She is

:21:52.:22:17.

a champion, she has won so many times, that is why I am happy about

:22:18.:22:22.

my game and my first final here. A wonderful shot to finish with. I

:22:23.:22:27.

tried to go for every shot, moving well. The last point was amazing.

:22:28.:22:37.

Totally, I wanted to win. What are you going to do? You do the best you

:22:38.:22:42.

can. I ran into a better player. Next time. You are doing things at

:22:43.:22:48.

an age when many at your contemporaries have hung it up. When

:22:49.:22:53.

you are an athlete, you are not thinking about age, you are thinking

:22:54.:22:59.

about what you can accomplish. Perhaps people will think of it more

:23:00.:23:04.

in that way. I am in a good place. She is rewriting the record books.

:23:05.:23:09.

With that answer, next time, she will be back again. Let's talk about

:23:10.:23:14.

Angelique Kerber. Her retrieving ability, she gets everything back.

:23:15.:23:20.

She does. She is one of the best athletes playing the game. Not as

:23:21.:23:27.

powerful as Serena, but she is so explosive, she has great

:23:28.:23:29.

anticipation. She backs up and she reads the play. She then can do

:23:30.:23:34.

stuff with her hands to make the balls do incredible things, angles,

:23:35.:23:40.

up the line. We look at her as not a grass court player, because of her

:23:41.:23:47.

serve, because it can be vulnerable, but every other part of her game is

:23:48.:23:52.

suited to grass, she stays low, it is difficult to play against. Talk

:23:53.:23:58.

us through what Kerber is doing and how she is managing to put Venus

:23:59.:24:00.

under pressure. She gets the ball back into play

:24:01.:24:09.

time and time again, she extends the rallies, she makes Venus have to

:24:10.:24:14.

play an extra shot. She went a bit down the middle, she did not go into

:24:15.:24:19.

the corners as much as I expected. She did not go into Venus' forehand

:24:20.:24:25.

side as much as she could have, but then she drew out the forced errors

:24:26.:24:30.

on that side. I think she is one of the fittest athletes out there, she

:24:31.:24:34.

has worked so incredibly hard on that side of her game. She has this

:24:35.:24:40.

ability to track down balls, the take-off speed, the footwork skills,

:24:41.:24:44.

she gets behind the ball and click the rest. The last point summed up

:24:45.:24:50.

what she is all about. She can come up with the running passing shots,

:24:51.:24:55.

she is so dangerous, it is wonderful to see somebody who has worked hard

:24:56.:24:59.

and you see it come to fruition. She had a plan with her serve,

:25:00.:25:03.

astounded, coming into Venus' forehand. That was the question,

:25:04.:25:10.

would she be willing to go to the serve to the forehand? She is more

:25:11.:25:18.

comfortable serving to the backhand. That is Venus' best shot. She came

:25:19.:25:23.

out of her comfort zone and hit more to the forehand. She came in knowing

:25:24.:25:28.

that she had to not hit her best serve every single time, she had to

:25:29.:25:32.

mix it up and have the confidence to do that. That is the weaker side of

:25:33.:25:38.

Venus, it broke down a bit today. Kerber took advantage of that. And

:25:39.:25:47.

-- we think of left-handers being great servers out wide, but when

:25:48.:25:50.

they serve into the forehand side, the ball is swinging in, you have to

:25:51.:25:58.

cut across the line of the ball, but feels comfortable, sometimes people

:25:59.:26:02.

can dictate to the strings. Quite often there were miscues from Venus,

:26:03.:26:07.

she was not comfortable. They said how tired she looked, she is playing

:26:08.:26:12.

not having recovered from this awful disease, but managing it. That is

:26:13.:26:18.

what we will never know, did she come in fatigued? She is 36, she had

:26:19.:26:25.

played five singles matches coming in, last year she never knows, each

:26:26.:26:32.

day is a new day, she has the manage her energy and schedule. What she is

:26:33.:26:39.

doing is remarkable. She did not seem to have the same and other of

:26:40.:26:42.

energy that we have seen coming into this match today. Full credit to

:26:43.:26:47.

Angelique Kerber. Through the second set could have gone either way, and

:26:48.:26:51.

then we would have been into a decider. To serve out nervously, how

:26:52.:26:56.

brilliant what this. It showed mental strength. So much pressure,

:26:57.:27:04.

to reach her first Wimbledon final. She had been broken many times

:27:05.:27:09.

during the match, especially in the first set, but she remained

:27:10.:27:12.

extremely calm. She said she was nervous at the start of the match

:27:13.:27:16.

but then she started to flow. She trusted herself. There is more in

:27:17.:27:22.

confidence from having won her first Grand Slam in Australia. This was a

:27:23.:27:27.

terrific match point, to finish the rally, to win the match to get

:27:28.:27:31.

through to the final. She has to be on cloud nine. She talked about her

:27:32.:27:38.

disappointment at the French, her first major as a grand slam

:27:39.:27:42.

champion, she lost in the first round, her opponent played well, but

:27:43.:27:45.

she was so disappointed, she learned from that, and she tried to take the

:27:46.:27:50.

pressure off PR. One reason why she is so confident, there is no way her

:27:51.:27:56.

camp is not telling her, you should believe in yourself, you have done

:27:57.:28:01.

this, you spend hours training, your game will hold up. Even if your mind

:28:02.:28:08.

starts to get nervous. That is what happens, you can see it, you know

:28:09.:28:13.

she puts in so many hours to be the best player she can be. An

:28:14.:28:18.

incredible job, she will be back on Saturday afternoon in the final, but

:28:19.:28:23.

who would she meet? With a look at the younger Williams sister against

:28:24.:28:26.

the unknown quantity of the semifinalist Elena Vesnina.

:28:27.:28:33.

Elena Vesnina has Neville travelled so far alone. Part of a duo who has

:28:34.:28:42.

found success as a solo artist. The images she will remember for the

:28:43.:28:47.

rest of her life. Her biggest challenge lay ahead, how do you

:28:48.:28:51.

solve a problem like Serena? She is getting better and better. There are

:28:52.:28:56.

lessons in recent history, women who took on the phenomenon and one. At

:28:57.:29:01.

the fridge open, youthful energy. Before that in Australia, Angelique

:29:02.:29:06.

Kerber. Roberta Vinci stopped her making the final at the US Open. For

:29:07.:29:12.

those who are confident, courageous, there is a chance. Her energy can

:29:13.:29:18.

become unmanageable. The passion and intensity I have is what makes me

:29:19.:29:22.

Serena. I can't change, I would not want to be different. Wimbledon is

:29:23.:29:28.

her domain, the six time champion who gains strength as the end grows

:29:29.:29:33.

nearer. Serena Williams may have offered more clues to those who

:29:34.:29:35.

challenge her, and she remains the most formidable puzzle.

:29:36.:29:42.

She had the headphones off backstage but took them off to hear the

:29:43.:29:48.

applause of the crowd. Aliona does mean, her first singles match on

:29:49.:29:55.

Centre Court. -- Elena Vesnina. The crowd very appreciative.

:29:56.:29:59.

They played four times before, Serena had one each meeting, Vesnina

:30:00.:30:06.

did not have time to let her nerves settle. As we join it, Serena

:30:07.:30:09.

Williams is already leading. How much does Serena want to play

:30:10.:31:03.

Venus in the final? That is a great question. Or not want to? Most

:31:04.:31:10.

importantly she is focused on getting to the final.

:31:11.:31:39.

A huge punch from Serena right at the end. Great defence from Serena.

:31:40.:31:46.

You don't see her need to do that too often. At least Vesnina is

:31:47.:31:54.

finding her legs, starting to move out there. She was frozen for the

:31:55.:31:55.

first few games. I only asked that question because,

:31:56.:32:12.

if Venus was to win the next match, and Serena wins this, how much would

:32:13.:32:18.

she say, I would have given anything for that opportunity? For Serena, it

:32:19.:32:26.

is probably easier for her to focus if it was not against her sister,

:32:27.:32:32.

but for her sister's say, she busy ones Venus to get to the final. I

:32:33.:32:36.

don't know how you played your brother. We played three times. I

:32:37.:32:43.

just felt like, take me to the top of a bridge if I lost. I thought you

:32:44.:32:48.

were going to say how hard it was emotionally.

:32:49.:32:54.

Venus handles it unbelievably well. She seems to be more worried about

:32:55.:33:05.

Serena than Serena is. You don't get the feeling it is reciprocal. She

:33:06.:33:10.

gets the job Journal and then she worries about Venus. I thought you

:33:11.:33:18.

were going to say, beating your brother 6-0, 5-0, I must let him

:33:19.:33:28.

have a game. There we go. It is three aces as well. In this game,

:33:29.:33:37.

Vesnina has not played poorly. Serena is sharp. This is an example

:33:38.:33:43.

of another one of these great sets she has played this tournament.

:33:44.:33:52.

There will be a huge cheer if she wins this point.

:33:53.:34:20.

Would that settled the Russian's nerves? The next games went with

:34:21.:34:29.

serve and we are going to join it at 5-2-macro, Serena serving to take

:34:30.:34:30.

the first set. Vesnina is hitting some high-quality

:34:31.:35:16.

shots but Serena, I think her movement was hampered at the end of

:35:17.:35:20.

last year and even in Australia this year, she did not look 100%. She has

:35:21.:35:29.

moved better this tournament, this year's Wimbledon, than she was six

:35:30.:35:32.

or eight months ago because of her knee.

:35:33.:35:47.

Shelling peas for Serena Williams. 6-2, 28 minutes.

:35:48.:35:57.

Serena in sensational form and she continued where she left off in the

:35:58.:36:03.

second set, breaking in the first game, so here is Vesnina serving 2-0

:36:04.:36:05.

down. It is getting hot, the sun and the

:36:06.:36:54.

heat, but it is the emotion. It is the racket, it is the ball and

:36:55.:36:57.

anything else. And error from the Williams racket.

:36:58.:37:30.

In two hours' time, we could say that was the turning point of the

:37:31.:37:38.

match. 20 years from now. We will never forget that forehand that went

:37:39.:37:39.

long. It's changed my life. The school board has one other

:37:40.:38:40.

interesting statistic. Just 38 minutes played. All Serena.

:38:41.:39:05.

Hawk-Eye has been awoken from its slumber. Fingers crossed here for

:39:06.:39:18.

Vesnina. No, well wide. That was a second double fault from her. And

:39:19.:39:22.

the end gets ever nearer. And there was still no respite as

:39:23.:39:34.

Serena serve to love again. Here is the Russian serving 4-0 down.

:39:35.:40:09.

This can't be a semifinal. It has taken her 43 minutes to decide to

:40:10.:40:17.

throw a drop shot in and that happens. It is a shame, because it

:40:18.:40:22.

is the second Thursday of a grand slam event.

:40:23.:40:39.

What was your head to head wins against Serena? Not great. So much

:40:40.:40:50.

has been written about her before she actually went on the tour but

:40:51.:41:00.

did she play her first ever match at Wimbledon in 1998? At that time,

:41:01.:41:05.

were people saying, you had better watch out yet, this could be one of

:41:06.:41:13.

the great players? Yes. I saw her when she was eight. The same thing.

:41:14.:41:23.

John, you were right. The first round, 1998.

:41:24.:42:07.

Oh, my goodness. She has lost just three points in total on her serve

:42:08.:43:02.

in this match. You could not have an easier time on your service games

:43:03.:43:05.

and what she has had in this semifinal. If you can't put pressure

:43:06.:43:12.

on Serena at all on her service game, she will be so loose and

:43:13.:43:15.

relaxed in her return games and that is what we have seen. That is an

:43:16.:43:26.

11th ace and so after just 48 minutes, barely one half of

:43:27.:43:30.

football, Serena Williams, three match points.

:43:31.:43:40.

As simple and as easy and as straightforward as you could

:43:41.:43:47.

possibly imagine. Just an exhibition performance from Serena Williams.

:43:48.:43:54.

Ruthless, relentless and into yet another Wimbledon final.

:43:55.:44:01.

I am very happy. I was really focused today because I know we have

:44:02.:44:08.

had a lot of tough matches before, especially on this surface. I knew

:44:09.:44:14.

she could really bring it to me. Are you surprised you one as easy as you

:44:15.:44:18.

did? It is never easy out there. Every point you have got to fight

:44:19.:44:24.

for. It is never easy. Through to your ninth final at Wimbledon. How

:44:25.:44:29.

significant is that to you? It is weird. I can't believe I am in the

:44:30.:44:35.

finals again. I am determined to get at least one more year.

:44:36.:44:43.

I felt like Serena just blew me from the court. I am a little bit

:44:44.:44:47.

disappointed and I wanted to play better in my first Grand Slam

:44:48.:44:51.

semifinal against Serena but you have got to admit she was better,

:44:52.:44:55.

stronger, faster and I could not do anything today. It is just something

:44:56.:45:01.

I can take this experience with me for the future and I am just wishing

:45:02.:45:07.

best of luck to Serena in the final and that is what it is.

:45:08.:45:16.

Vesnina incredibly gracious but she was against an unstoppable force.

:45:17.:45:21.

Serena only lost three points on her serve in the whole match. Here is

:45:22.:45:25.

your quiz question. That was the fastest semifinal since? Someone

:45:26.:45:33.

told me earlier. You have got to know this, Lindsay. 99, I think.

:45:34.:45:47.

Who? In my match. Yes, you. But it was just majestic from Serena. She

:45:48.:45:52.

has really been that perfect, certainly not this year. It really

:45:53.:45:56.

was perfect. Everyone has been wondering when the Demons might

:45:57.:46:00.

suddenly reappear but there is no sign of them. She had one difficult

:46:01.:46:04.

match earlier in the Championships but now she has got the flow, she is

:46:05.:46:09.

firing on all cylinders, the movement around the court, she is

:46:10.:46:13.

like an express train. When you are against someone like that, Vesnina

:46:14.:46:18.

had a lot of nerves in her first Grand Slam semifinal, but there was

:46:19.:46:22.

not much she could do to try and stop the rot. Try to get involved in

:46:23.:46:27.

her head to create some sort of doubt out there. She needed to

:46:28.:46:30.

extend those rallies are little bit just to keep pressure on that

:46:31.:46:36.

scoreline. She is such a good front runner, if she gets going, there is

:46:37.:46:43.

no stopping her. As this demonstrates, it is a beautiful,

:46:44.:46:46.

simple motion, but when she throws the ball. It is the most beautiful

:46:47.:46:53.

service motion, I am sure Lindsay would agree, but it is such a close

:46:54.:46:58.

cluster of balls and that is very difficult for the opponent. If she

:46:59.:47:03.

can save so many different choices of serve off roughly the same ball

:47:04.:47:07.

toss, that is a nightmare, because it is coming through the courts so

:47:08.:47:14.

fast. You had the figures. 123 mph? She has done it a few times. You

:47:15.:47:20.

have so little time to react. We wanted to compare it to Novak

:47:21.:47:25.

Djokovic's serve. His fastest of the tournament. She has that ability to

:47:26.:47:31.

take the play out of her opponent's hands. When a Serena is feeling

:47:32.:47:36.

called double and confident on that shot, it has just been flowing

:47:37.:47:43.

effect in this tournament. In Australia, in the final, she was

:47:44.:47:47.

forcing it a little bit, last year's US Open, the same thing. But it is

:47:48.:47:54.

flowing perfectly. She has the ability to go 125, she also has the

:47:55.:48:00.

ability to go slower, but she hates her target. Their opponents don't

:48:01.:48:03.

know which one to cover and it gives you so much confidence. She was in a

:48:04.:48:10.

very good mood afterwards. I had a long chat with her and she talked

:48:11.:48:14.

about her serve. She should be in a good move right now. But she also

:48:15.:48:20.

posted this. I mentioned that the Duchess of Cambridge was in the

:48:21.:48:24.

Royal box. Afterwards, Serena said, can we have a selfie and do this

:48:25.:48:30.

video with me? If you look carefully, you can see the Countess

:48:31.:48:36.

of Wessex coming in as well. It is just great. At net, you saw her have

:48:37.:48:44.

a quick chat with Vesnina, that is because they knew they would do to

:48:45.:48:54.

play doubles. The Williams sisters, it went with recess, but the

:48:55.:48:58.

Williams sisters through to the semifinals of the doubles. This is

:48:59.:49:01.

all about getting ready for the Rio Olympics. They have not played

:49:02.:49:07.

doubles in the last few years in the majors and this year they have made

:49:08.:49:11.

more of a commitment to try and win the gold medal at the Olympics. Ron

:49:12.:49:15.

while Venus is saying, so be blogging she might retire after the

:49:16.:49:21.

Olympics. She said 20/20 the other day. It is crazy. But she pulls it

:49:22.:49:26.

out there, don't ask me about retirement. We will talk more in a

:49:27.:49:31.

moment about that, Serena Williams against Angelique Kerber. But lots

:49:32.:49:34.

more doubles going on today. Coming to Wimbledon is like dropping

:49:35.:49:43.

in on an old friend for Martina Hingis. She and Sania Mirza took the

:49:44.:49:50.

doubles title last time and would top seeds this year. Timea Babos and

:49:51.:49:56.

Yaroslava Shvedova dealer owned them on the day the second seeds also

:49:57.:50:00.

went out. Maria Hingis was staying for another one though. Three and a

:50:01.:50:06.

half hours later, she reappeared later alongside Leander Paes, facing

:50:07.:50:11.

Britain's Heather Watson and her partner Henry continent, who had

:50:12.:50:15.

been progressing without playing. Despite Watson and Henry continent's

:50:16.:50:23.

efforts, they lost the first set. But this was not done. They seized

:50:24.:50:27.

the second and got the break they needed in the third, knocking the

:50:28.:50:31.

defending champions out and earning a place in the quarterfinals. Here

:50:32.:50:35.

is a far happier ever than the one that left her last week. In Grand

:50:36.:50:42.

Slam wheelchair tennis doubles, for the first time, she would try her

:50:43.:50:48.

luck on her own. She sort of her fellow Brit in the previous round.

:50:49.:50:57.

Gordon Reid says playing singles on these courts is something he has

:50:58.:51:01.

always creamed. No need to wake up just yet. Inference of the Duchess

:51:02.:51:06.

of Cambridge, he crafted his way past the Frenchman. A tiger could

:51:07.:51:10.

have been to have negotiated perfectly. An occasion he has waited

:51:11.:51:16.

all his career for could hardly have gone much better.

:51:17.:51:22.

A historic Wimbledon for having wheelchair singles for the first

:51:23.:51:28.

time. Everyone is still buzzing about yesterday's match as Centre

:51:29.:51:33.

Court saw two of the greatest quarterfinal matches ever. One

:51:34.:51:36.

featuring Roger Federer, the other featuring Andy Murray.

:51:37.:51:43.

It is men's quarterfinal stage and it is an absolutely cracking

:51:44.:51:46.

line-up. He is not going to leave Wimbledon

:51:47.:52:03.

this year without a fight. Absolutely stunning!

:52:04.:52:08.

The best shot of the day. A phenomenal comeback. He is truly one

:52:09.:52:22.

of the greatest players ever of the game.

:52:23.:52:28.

The world number two, Andy Murray. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. A match to

:52:29.:52:34.

savour. He has got the ball on a string.

:52:35.:52:41.

He has not lost a set at these championships yet.

:52:42.:52:49.

That is why Murray does the hours. He is not out of this match yet. He

:52:50.:52:59.

is going the distance. There was triumph on Centre Court for Andy

:53:00.:53:00.

Murray. Tsonga and Cilic played their car in

:53:01.:53:13.

those encounters. Angelique Kerber knows she has done the work to

:53:14.:53:16.

deserve these moments, did you see him shout at his clan, there is no

:53:17.:53:24.

way I am losing this match. You just know with Andy, he is such an

:53:25.:53:28.

unbelievable fighter, a warrior out there, he is in his domain, Centre

:53:29.:53:32.

Court, where he has won this championship. I thought Tsonga did

:53:33.:53:38.

extremely well to turn it into a five setter. You felt mentally he

:53:39.:53:42.

had been beaten and he was going away from the match and yet he

:53:43.:53:46.

started to really fire on the forehand, he started to get the flow

:53:47.:53:51.

going with his serve, and he did mess the rhythm with his slice

:53:52.:53:55.

backhand. And the backhand side, which is normally a weaker side for

:53:56.:54:00.

him, he started coming up with phenomenal passing shot. But

:54:01.:54:04.

ultimately, Andy does mess with a lot of players' heads and it is very

:54:05.:54:10.

difficult to unravel him. And where Murray shows all his determination,

:54:11.:54:18.

he shouts, he screams at his camp. I think a lot of that is geared for

:54:19.:54:22.

the opponent. Look at that, there is no way I am losing this match. Roger

:54:23.:54:28.

Federer, in contrast, you don't see it, but as an opponent you must feel

:54:29.:54:33.

it. He just has that aura. You could tell he was getting intense because

:54:34.:54:38.

he was yelling, come on! He was getting a little bit more vocal

:54:39.:54:42.

yesterday. But you never get the sense of any anxiety or any panic

:54:43.:54:47.

ever from Roger. That, I think, it helped him through yesterday. He

:54:48.:54:57.

saved three match points. 3-3, 0-40. He just believes. And he finishes up

:54:58.:55:03.

with two aces and that is when you realise. He does not look like it

:55:04.:55:10.

takes that much out of him but I am just so interested in the effect he

:55:11.:55:15.

had on Cilic. Cilic is going to be thinking today, I should have won

:55:16.:55:18.

that match here, here, here and here. He was going in earlier in the

:55:19.:55:25.

first two sets but when he had a chance to take a stranglehold, those

:55:26.:55:30.

returns were not going in. That is because he is playing Roger Federer,

:55:31.:55:33.

Centre Court at Wimbledon. That is what being that big of a legend and

:55:34.:55:37.

that much of a champion does to opponents sometimes. This is the

:55:38.:55:42.

order of play for tomorrow and a cracking line-up it is. It will all

:55:43.:55:48.

be on the BBC. Milos Raonic, from Canada, with John McEnroe in his

:55:49.:55:52.

coaching camp, up against Roger Federer. And Tomas Berdych, who has

:55:53.:55:58.

been a final here before, against Andy Murray. Just extraordinary. On

:55:59.:56:03.

Saturday we will have the women's final. How does Angelique Kerber go

:56:04.:56:07.

about beating Serena Williams again? Will it be effective on grass. In

:56:08.:56:12.

Australia she brought a very high level out onto the court but she

:56:13.:56:16.

played with aggression, she ran down balls and she managed to extend the

:56:17.:56:21.

rallies. She started to get into the forehand side of Serena Williams who

:56:22.:56:26.

started to break down emotionally, started to doubt herself, and she

:56:27.:56:30.

stepped with her emotionally. It is very difficult to do that but if you

:56:31.:56:34.

are doing it, it starts to change the momentum and shifts the rhythm

:56:35.:56:38.

of the match. I don't think it is going to be as easy for her to do it

:56:39.:56:41.

on a grass court because of that serve of Serena Williams. She comes

:56:42.:56:47.

up with so many free points. But if anyone can extend the rallies and

:56:48.:56:51.

defend, Angelique Kerber has Beth Mead put herself in a position to do

:56:52.:56:56.

that. This was our shot of the day, to do that under pressure to finish

:56:57.:57:02.

that rally. What do you think about the final? Would you make Serena a

:57:03.:57:09.

heavy favourite? Serena is her heavy favourite just based on the surface,

:57:10.:57:13.

being six times champion and the quality she has shown this week.

:57:14.:57:19.

Kerber has to get a high percentage returns back and this is the most

:57:20.:57:23.

difficult surface to do that on. She also asked to hold her serve early

:57:24.:57:27.

on. But a bit more pressure on Serena if she can go from there. If

:57:28.:57:34.

she gets into a rally, she has a chance. Those first shots in this

:57:35.:57:39.

match are going to be huge. And if she does start to return very well,

:57:40.:57:43.

which she has been doing during the course of the Championships, that

:57:44.:57:46.

can produce misses of first serve, you can look up second service, all

:57:47.:57:51.

pieces of a jigsaw that part romantic during the match. And

:57:52.:57:58.

Serena can be susceptible to stress. You have seen her, her breathing

:57:59.:58:02.

gets very quick and you can see it start to happen. One thing she is

:58:03.:58:06.

doing better at this stage of her career is learning from losses,

:58:07.:58:08.

learning from previous mistakes. That overwhelmed her last year at

:58:09.:58:14.

the open. I don't thing she was 100 set healthy in Australia. She is

:58:15.:58:21.

moving better here. The French, she was struggling off court. So why

:58:22.:58:24.

think she is going to do better here. They are about to make the

:58:25.:58:29.

announcement that everybody needs to leave the ground. We have got to go

:58:30.:58:32.

because otherwise they will lock all the gates and we will be here for

:58:33.:58:37.

ever. On Saturday, Serena could finally equal Steffi Graf's record

:58:38.:58:43.

of 22 Grand Slam victories. With her and Venus in the semifinals and

:58:44.:58:47.

Roger Federer still going as well, this has been a Wimbledon way

:58:48.:58:53.

vintage is back in vogue. We will be back tomorrow. Join Sue on BBC Two.
