for the first time spotter planes find debris. That's all from the BBC | :00:00. | :00:00.
News at Six so it's goodbye from me, and on BBC One we now join the BBC's | :00:00. | :00:00.
news teams where you are. Tonight on BBC London News: The | :00:00. | :00:08.
tower block danger, a new rdport says hundreds of thousands could be | :00:09. | :00:12.
at risk if a fire breaks out. Landlords are urged to do more. | :00:13. | :00:17.
They have a really important responsibility in law to make sure | :00:18. | :00:20.
their tenants understand wh`t to do in the event of a fire, to give | :00:21. | :00:24.
really clear guidance. We'll hear if the Lakanal House | :00:25. | :00:27.
blaze, which killed six, ch`nged tower block safety. | :00:28. | :00:32.
Also tonight: Publicist Max Clifford, brands the women who've | :00:33. | :00:35.
accused him of sexual assault as fantasists and opportunists. | :00:36. | :00:40.
Searching for life on Mars ` not on the red planet itself, but tp the | :00:41. | :00:52.
A1M in Stevenage. I will be reporting from an exact replica of | :00:53. | :00:57.
Mars on efforts to design the next generation of Martian rover. | :00:58. | :01:01.
And the unsung heroes who fhnally take centre stage in a new | :01:02. | :01:03.
Oscar`winning documentary. Good evening and welcome to the | :01:04. | :01:19.
programme. Hundreds of thousands of people | :01:20. | :01:22.
living in high`rise blocks could be at risk if a fire breaks out. That's | :01:23. | :01:27.
according to a new survey bx the London Fire Brigade. It found that | :01:28. | :01:31.
nearly half the residents qtestioned wouldn't know what to do in the | :01:32. | :01:35.
event of a blaze. Today's rdport comes nearly five years aftdr six | :01:36. | :01:38.
people died in a fire in Lakanal House in Southwark. A number of | :01:39. | :01:43.
failings were identified in the inquest into their deaths. Here s | :01:44. | :01:51.
Emma North. The fire at Lakanal House in | :01:52. | :01:55.
Camberwell claimed the lives of six people. It was also a warning for | :01:56. | :02:00.
landlords and residents abott how to survive in a similar situathon. But | :02:01. | :02:04.
five years on, lessons still need to be learned. Since the fire `t | :02:05. | :02:09.
Lakanal House, do people around here have a better idea of what to do if | :02:10. | :02:16.
there were a fire in their own home? I'm not sure. I think they light | :02:17. | :02:24.
have been made aware of what happened and what could happen, but | :02:25. | :02:29.
I don't know if people are looking to themselves, what to do. Do you | :02:30. | :02:34.
talk among yourselves, the neighbours and the communitx, more | :02:35. | :02:40.
about what you could do? No. It s everyone for themselves. It is | :02:41. | :02:43.
perhaps no surprise that so few Londoners have an escape pl`n. More | :02:44. | :02:48.
than half of the capital's high`rise residence, 760,000 households, say | :02:49. | :02:53.
they don't, and half said they would get out of their flat even hf the | :02:54. | :02:56.
fire were somewhere else in the block, something the Fire Sdrvice | :02:57. | :02:59.
says is one of the most dangerous things to do. You want people to | :03:00. | :03:07.
stay in their flat, why? If they are not affected by the fire, it is | :03:08. | :03:11.
important to stay put. This is where the confusion arises. When the fire | :03:12. | :03:16.
engulfed Lakanal House, people stayed put and it cost them their | :03:17. | :03:20.
lives. So even if the instrtctions are followed, there seems no | :03:21. | :03:26.
guarantee. Nobody can give ` 10 % commitment that they will bd safe | :03:27. | :03:30.
from all sorts of fire becatse there are particular circumstances in | :03:31. | :03:34.
individual cases. But the gdneral advice from the fire brigadd, which | :03:35. | :03:38.
we support, is that people should remain in their home until they are | :03:39. | :03:43.
told otherwise. Southwark spent ?60 million on upgrades, and safety | :03:44. | :03:47.
instructions for everyone c`n now be found online, but there are two | :03:48. | :03:51.
things that can never be controlled ` people's attention, and fhre. | :03:52. | :03:55.
Lots more to come, including: The research which reveals what | :03:56. | :03:57.
Londoners think about the c`pital's changing skyline. | :03:58. | :04:06.
"Fantasists and opportunists" ` that's how Max Clifford has | :04:07. | :04:09.
described the women who've `ccused him of sexual assault. The | :04:10. | :04:15.
70`year`old PR guru is standing trial over 11 counts of inddcent | :04:16. | :04:18.
assault against seven women and girls, which he denies. Richard | :04:19. | :04:23.
Lister has been at Southwark Crown Court. | :04:24. | :04:31.
Arriving at court this mornhng, Max Clifford knew he would have to | :04:32. | :04:35.
answer prosecution questions for the first time in this trial, qtestions, | :04:36. | :04:41.
the court heard, about why 45 witnesses have made allegathons | :04:42. | :04:43.
against him. Pressed for an explanation, Max Clifford s`id, I | :04:44. | :04:48.
can only think it is an opportunity for compensation, to make some | :04:49. | :04:54.
money. He added later that, possibly they are just fantasists, possibly | :04:55. | :04:58.
because they don't like me. The court heard that he had kept diaries | :04:59. | :05:03.
during the 1970s and 1980s when he was based in these Bond Strdet | :05:04. | :05:07.
officers, diaries which onlx came to light in the last few weeks. Max | :05:08. | :05:11.
Clifford said the diaries wdre in his office when he was first | :05:12. | :05:15.
arrested in December 2012 btt were shortly after put into stor`ge and | :05:16. | :05:19.
were not found by police, only introduced as evidence just before | :05:20. | :05:23.
the trial. But he said he dhd not know the whereabouts of somd | :05:24. | :05:25.
specific diaries covering the period in question. The exchanges became | :05:26. | :05:31.
more heated and Mr Clifford was asked about organising sex parties, | :05:32. | :05:36.
good honest filth in his words, where he confirmed there were agents | :05:37. | :05:40.
who helped women get into show business in exchange for sex. Max | :05:41. | :05:44.
Clifford has consistently ddnied ever demanding sex in return for | :05:45. | :05:48.
helping a woman's career, and insists he has no firm memory of any | :05:49. | :05:51.
of the women making allegathons against him. His evidence whll | :05:52. | :05:58.
continue on Monday. The former pop star Gary glhtter has | :05:59. | :06:02.
been bailed again until early June after his arrest over allegdd sex | :06:03. | :06:07.
offences. The 69`year`old w`s first arrested at his home in central | :06:08. | :06:12.
London in October 2012. The allegations against him are linked | :06:13. | :06:15.
to the late television presdnter, Jimmy Savile. He denies any | :06:16. | :06:18.
wrongdoing. Nearly 100 teachers and staff | :06:19. | :06:20.
working for schools in Essex have been disciplined over sex abuse | :06:21. | :06:23.
claims in the past five years. Details have been released by Essex | :06:24. | :06:26.
County Council showing that in 70 schools, there were nearly 050 | :06:27. | :06:32.
allegations. The council saxs the claims were dealt with according to | :06:33. | :06:33.
child protection guidelines. Now, is there life on Mars? A | :06:34. | :06:50.
question scientists in Hertfordshire are helping to answer. They've | :06:51. | :06:53.
recreated a little piece of the Red Planet to help with Europe's next | :06:54. | :06:56.
space mission. The facility is being used to design and test a M`rtian | :06:57. | :06:59.
rover which will be sent to the planet in four years to search for | :07:00. | :07:03.
life. Pallab Ghosh has been to Stevenage to see it. | :07:04. | :07:10.
It is Mars, but not as we know it. It looks like a film set but it is | :07:11. | :07:16.
actually a laboratory to test out technologies for Europe's ndxt | :07:17. | :07:23.
mission to Mars. This is an exact replica of the Martian surf`ce. | :07:24. | :07:26.
Everything from the sand to the size of the rocks, to the rough to rain | :07:27. | :07:31.
is exactly the same as it is on Mars. And it's going to be tsed to | :07:32. | :07:35.
design the next generation of Martian rover. The prototypd creeps | :07:36. | :07:41.
across the surface, to avoid damaging itself. But by spedding up | :07:42. | :07:46.
the footage, engineers can study the weaknesses in the wheels and | :07:47. | :07:52.
suspension. This to rain is quite complex to simulate on a colputer. | :07:53. | :07:57.
You cannot build a simulation environment. We actually nedd the | :07:58. | :08:00.
physical interaction of the Rover with a real environment. Thd | :08:01. | :08:07.
curiosity rover is currentlx on Mars. The European rover will be | :08:08. | :08:12.
able to see better than it. We will have it about the height of a human | :08:13. | :08:16.
above the surface. Its camera is being built in Surrey. It whll have | :08:17. | :08:21.
small, coloured filters which will be used to find out what thd rocks | :08:22. | :08:28.
are made of. Curiosity, at the moment, can see a small reghon. We | :08:29. | :08:32.
will be able to see a much larger region, outlined in red. We can also | :08:33. | :08:37.
zoom in and look at the blud section in great detail, a high`resolution | :08:38. | :08:42.
camera. With that, we will be looking for where to drill to look | :08:43. | :08:48.
for signs of life. The European mission is purpose`built to search | :08:49. | :08:52.
for life. It will drill deep into the Martian surface and analysed | :08:53. | :08:58.
samples in an on`board laboratory. The probability of detecting ancient | :08:59. | :09:02.
life on Mars is very good. We know that Mars and Earth were very | :09:03. | :09:06.
similar in their early history, so we would expect to find lifd on | :09:07. | :09:12.
Mars. 4 billion years ago, Lars looked like this, similar to the | :09:13. | :09:16.
earth, with a thick atmosphdre and running water. So there is ` real | :09:17. | :09:20.
possibility that there was once life on the red planet. If there was | :09:21. | :09:24.
there is a good chance that Europe's rover will find evhdence of | :09:25. | :09:32.
it in just a few years time. The director of public has ` is has | :09:33. | :09:36.
conceded that an administrative error by the Crown Prosecuthon | :09:37. | :09:40.
Service prevented a convictdd Mafia boss from being extradited from his | :09:41. | :09:46.
home in London. Having lived in Uxbridge for the past 25 ye`rs, he | :09:47. | :09:50.
was arrested last August after evading Italian authorities. | :09:51. | :09:53.
Prosecutors failed to serve his lawyers with papers in time, meaning | :09:54. | :10:01.
he may never be tried in It`ly. A bus has crashed outside Pttney | :10:02. | :10:05.
Bridge station. No passengers were on board at the time. It had just | :10:06. | :10:09.
pulled up outside the station but lost control and crashed into the | :10:10. | :10:12.
building. The driver has bedn taken to hospital with minor injuries | :10:13. | :10:16.
The killing of Shereka Marsh, a schoolgirl from Hackney who was shot | :10:17. | :10:19.
in the neck last weekend, shocked us all. Today, friends of Sherdka Marsh | :10:20. | :10:22.
are rallying to help the 15`year`old's mother pay for her | :10:23. | :10:25.
funeral. Victoria Graham went to Shereka's school where they're | :10:26. | :10:34.
raising funds. Shereka Marsh, shot dead allost a | :10:35. | :10:39.
week ago. The news shocked not only those who knew her, but the media | :10:40. | :10:43.
reeled in disbelief as to how this could have happened. Such a side, | :10:44. | :10:48.
sad story, such a waste, tr`gedy, the death of a 15`year`old. She was | :10:49. | :10:55.
shot in the neck and could not be saved. A 15`year`old boy has been | :10:56. | :11:00.
charged with her murder. Wh`tever happened here last Saturday resulted | :11:01. | :11:03.
in the tragic loss of a young life which held so much promise, and for | :11:04. | :11:07.
Shereka's mother, the ongoing struggle to try to cope with the | :11:08. | :11:11.
grief of losing her only chhld, and now having to arrange her ftneral. | :11:12. | :11:16.
But she is not alone. Support at Shereka's school is in abundance, | :11:17. | :11:20.
whether it is thoughts, words or memories. She was always latghing, | :11:21. | :11:27.
always smiling, and those dhmples were so deep. People would `lways | :11:28. | :11:33.
look at Shereka as the person who was always there. Knowing hdr mum is | :11:34. | :11:37.
not on her own is a big opportunity for us to show her that we `re here | :11:38. | :11:42.
to support her. And she is `t peace now. No mother wants to burx their | :11:43. | :11:49.
child. It is a very hard tile so we are here to support her. Right now, | :11:50. | :11:54.
Shereka is thinking, yes, I see you all. This is a Hackney family that | :11:55. | :12:01.
need our support, and particularly with a funeral to pay for. Nobody | :12:02. | :12:05.
saves up for the funeral of a 15`year`old child, so we ard | :12:06. | :12:09.
starting a fundraising camp`ign to finance the funeral and to support | :12:10. | :12:12.
mum, hopefully, after the ftneral as well. Last Friday we were r`ising | :12:13. | :12:19.
money for Sport Relief and she took part in a challenge. This Friday we | :12:20. | :12:29.
are raising money for her. Still to come, the speedway kings of | :12:30. | :12:33.
Essex begin their season tonight, asking all of London to back them. | :12:34. | :12:47.
And why a former backing vocalist for Michael Jackson and Stevie | :12:48. | :12:50.
wonder is giving singing lessons in Croydon. | :12:51. | :12:58.
Next, do tall buildings improve the capital's skyline? Research suggests | :12:59. | :13:07.
Londoners are split on the hssue. An equal number favour skyscrapers to | :13:08. | :13:10.
those who feel London has too many. They have also been voting on their | :13:11. | :13:15.
favourite. More on this frol Primrose Hill, with a beauthful | :13:16. | :13:22.
view. It is a beautiful view, one of the nicest places to view the | :13:23. | :13:26.
capital's ever`changing skyline There are something like 214 new | :13:27. | :13:30.
skyscrapers planned for the capital over the next decade. But those new | :13:31. | :13:36.
buildings will have some wax to go to beat the capital's current most | :13:37. | :13:43.
popular tall building. It has won many architecturd awards | :13:44. | :13:47.
and now the gherkin has won the hearts of Londoners. It is the | :13:48. | :13:51.
capital's most popular skyscraper, according to a new poll. It was | :13:52. | :13:55.
designed by Lord Foster, who is proud of this accolade. It has to be | :13:56. | :14:01.
the most important award of all because the building is in the | :14:02. | :14:07.
public domain. So if it is liked, and somebody votes in favour of it, | :14:08. | :14:14.
in the end, that is the gre`test award of all. What is it th`t people | :14:15. | :14:20.
love? It is kind of completdly different to anything else hn the | :14:21. | :14:24.
country, completely different. There is nothing in London like it. I love | :14:25. | :14:30.
it. I like it. I like modern architecture. I had a lovelx lunch | :14:31. | :14:34.
at the top and enjoy the vidw tremendously. It is an interesting | :14:35. | :14:40.
and stunning building. The gherkin is famous for its curved sh`pe but | :14:41. | :14:44.
the glass is flat and the steel is straight. The illusion is created by | :14:45. | :14:51.
tiny angles in the joints. Do you have a favourite tall buildhng in | :14:52. | :14:58.
London than the gherkin? I think the shard is, despite its height, is a | :14:59. | :15:03.
very delicate intervention hnto the fabric. Great minds think alike | :15:04. | :15:09.
with Londoners choosing it `t number two in the survey. Number three is | :15:10. | :15:16.
the cheese grater. Unfortun`tely for the Barbican, it was voted `s | :15:17. | :15:20.
London's least favourite tall structure. The think tank that | :15:21. | :15:24.
carried out the poll is calling on the mayor to monitor the ch`nging | :15:25. | :15:29.
skyline. We would like Boris Johnson to set up a commission to look at | :15:30. | :15:33.
the skyline, so they can take a strategic view, as well as looking | :15:34. | :15:36.
at the designs of individual buildings. We want tall buildings, | :15:37. | :15:41.
which we need to meet the growth happening in London in the next few | :15:42. | :15:45.
years. When we have tall buhldings, we can make sure they are bdautiful, | :15:46. | :15:49.
enhance the skyline and our place as people want to live and work. For | :15:50. | :15:54.
the gherkin, the shard and the cheese grater, they can enjoy their | :15:55. | :15:57.
place at the top of London's affections. But not all people in | :15:58. | :16:03.
London have affectionate fedlings towards skyscrapers. The survey | :16:04. | :16:07.
showed a fairly equal split between people who said tall buildings had | :16:08. | :16:09.
improved the skyline in recdnt years, and those who said they had | :16:10. | :16:16.
not at all. Actually, more people would rather not live in thdm than | :16:17. | :16:20.
live in them. But it would seem people are happy to look at them, to | :16:21. | :16:24.
work in them, but they are not happy to come home to them. She's one of | :16:25. | :16:35.
the most famous voices you've never heard of. Judith Hill, who's worked | :16:36. | :16:38.
with the likes of Michael J`ckson and Stevie Wonder, and is the star | :16:39. | :16:41.
of a new Oscar`winning doculentary about backing singers. Our | :16:42. | :16:43.
Entertainment Correspondent, Brenda Emmanus caught up with her, as she | :16:44. | :16:46.
gave singing workshops to young Londoners. | :16:47. | :16:52.
Backing vocalists are often regarded as the unsung heroes of the music | :16:53. | :16:59.
world. And the film providing a remarkable insight into thehr lives | :17:00. | :17:06.
proved worthy of an Oscar. Twenty Feet from Stardom shines a spotlight | :17:07. | :17:10.
on the untold stories of sole hugely talented vocalists behind some of | :17:11. | :17:13.
the greatest music legends of the 21st century. Including Judhth | :17:14. | :17:20.
Hill, who has provided vocals for Elton John and Stevie Wonder. I feel | :17:21. | :17:24.
truly blessed to have been `ble to work with so many incredibld icons. | :17:25. | :17:29.
Really, they could have chosen anyone but the fact I got the | :17:30. | :17:32.
opportunity to share the st`ge with Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder | :17:33. | :17:36.
and all these amazing peopld, it's been incredible. Judith was booked | :17:37. | :17:41.
by Michael Jackson for his highly anticipated concert series `t the O2 | :17:42. | :17:46.
arena. She was in London thhs week sharing her experiences with | :17:47. | :17:48.
students at the Brit School in Croydon. A backing singer doesn t | :17:49. | :17:53.
just help, it really adds to an artist. That makes the whold | :17:54. | :17:57.
performance what it is. I think backing singing would be solething | :17:58. | :18:02.
good for me to do, just to get the experience of touring. If you can | :18:03. | :18:05.
make a living up music can be at the back of the stage, I still think it | :18:06. | :18:10.
would be a great experience. Twenty Feet from Stardom won Best | :18:11. | :18:13.
documentary at this year's Oscars and revealed that while somd talents | :18:14. | :18:18.
remain in the background, others managed to shine with the stpport of | :18:19. | :18:21.
the stars they were backing. This was the experience of the b`cking | :18:22. | :18:28.
vocalist of any wine house for over six years. My experience is I've | :18:29. | :18:32.
always been interested in btilding a career for myself. Amy was `lways | :18:33. | :18:38.
aware of that, she started her label for me. We started working on an | :18:39. | :18:41.
album together. She gave me 15 minutes in the middle of her concert | :18:42. | :18:45.
to perform my own material, which gave me a great window of | :18:46. | :18:52.
opportunity. It has been awdsome. He should hit the main spotlight with | :18:53. | :18:55.
the release of his album later this year. Let's get the sport now with | :18:56. | :19:05.
Sara Orchard and you've got some crazy people on motorbikes with no | :19:06. | :19:07.
brakes?! I do, but not yet. First, a little | :19:08. | :19:10.
football. Crystal Palace ard hovering just above the Prelier | :19:11. | :19:13.
League relegation zone but tomorrow they host top of the table Chelsea, | :19:14. | :19:17.
at Selhurst Park. The Blues are a side that Palace haven't be`ten | :19:18. | :19:19.
since 1993, easily making Chelsea the favourites. Eagles' man`ger Tony | :19:20. | :19:26.
Pulis has never beaten a te`m led by Jose Mourinho but says he does have | :19:27. | :19:29.
a good relationship with his opposite number tomorrow. Hd's | :19:30. | :19:37.
interesting, a very interesting character. I think people, whether | :19:38. | :19:42.
you like or dislike him for what he is the pitch, that is all pdrsonal. | :19:43. | :19:48.
You will get some people who like him and some won't. There is no | :19:49. | :19:51.
doubt he is a top manager. The time I had with him was in Germany, but | :19:52. | :20:03.
they'd just beaten us. And there's full commentary of Crystal Palace | :20:04. | :20:05.
against Chelsea in the Premher League tomorrow at 3pm on BBC London | :20:06. | :20:09.
digital radio. Listeners to the BBC London 94.9FM Sports Show whth Phil | :20:10. | :20:11.
Parry can hear Millwall agahnst Blackburn in the Championshhp. Now a | :20:12. | :20:17.
little something for the petrol heads out there. We're going to talk | :20:18. | :20:22.
about speedway, that's racing motorbikes with no brakes on dirt | :20:23. | :20:25.
tracks. As the new season gdts under way, the Lakeside Hammers w`nt to | :20:26. | :20:28.
encourage more fans to come along to the circuit and find out about the | :20:29. | :20:32.
sport. So we sent our reporter Emma Jones along to Arena Essex Raceway | :20:33. | :20:33.
to watch the team in training. It's noisy, it's fast and it's back. | :20:34. | :20:48.
Speedway returns to the arena in Essex and night with the Lakeside | :20:49. | :20:54.
Hammers hoping to at least reach the play`offs this season and phck up a | :20:55. | :20:57.
few new fans along the way. I think it's really important for us to try | :20:58. | :21:02.
and sell the sport as best we can. We bring as many fans and stpporters | :21:03. | :21:06.
and businesses and local people along to see what we do. Thdre was a | :21:07. | :21:12.
time when supporters could watch speedway at a different track in | :21:13. | :21:17.
London every night of the wdek even Wembley Stadium hosted regular | :21:18. | :21:19.
meetings with huge crowds cheering on the riders. 75,000 were there to | :21:20. | :21:26.
see the speedway giants as they roared away in the qualifying heats. | :21:27. | :21:30.
Today the sport might have loved out of the capital, but the Hamlers have | :21:31. | :21:36.
found some of those funds h`ve followed. Speedway has got ` rich | :21:37. | :21:40.
history in London. We feel we are maintaining that history, albeit | :21:41. | :21:44.
just on the edges of the M24. But we do very much feel we are London s | :21:45. | :21:49.
team. The support we get from people both from London and those of | :21:50. | :21:52.
originated from London is the real hard`core of our support. P`rt of | :21:53. | :21:56.
the appeal no doubt is the speed and danger. A bike that can go `t over | :21:57. | :22:17.
70 mph without any breaks. Ht means riders can pick up a long lhst of | :22:18. | :22:19.
injuries. 18`year`old Jack Kingston's started with a broken | :22:20. | :22:22.
foot. I broke my left wrist, then I broke it again. That's the lost | :22:23. | :22:24.
dangerous thing about when xou have a crush, if the bike hits you. | :22:25. | :22:27.
Usually you are all right if it doesn't. A broken both coll`rbone | :22:28. | :22:30.
since then as well. The thrhlls and spills of speedway. If you fancy an | :22:31. | :22:37.
afternoon by the river on Stnday, Oxford and Cambridge will rdnew | :22:38. | :22:39.
their rivalry when they compete in the Women's Boat Race. Oxford won | :22:40. | :22:42.
last year's contest at Eton Dorney, but this year it's taking place for | :22:43. | :22:45.
the last time at Henley`on`Thames. From next year, both the men's and | :22:46. | :22:49.
women's races will be held on the same day on the same stretch of the | :22:50. | :22:52.
river. The decision follows the success of the female rowers at the | :22:53. | :22:58.
London 2012 Olympic Games. H'd like it to be the case that when people | :22:59. | :23:02.
say Oxford and Cambridge bo`t race, people think of both genders as | :23:03. | :23:06.
well. I think we are starting to see that. I think there's a gendral | :23:07. | :23:10.
trend towards parity across sports in Britain in general. I'm so | :23:11. | :23:14.
excited and thrilled that otr club gets to be an integral part of. | :23:15. | :23:24.
Surrey batsmen Kevin Pietersen has announced he is entering to play in | :23:25. | :23:26.
the Caribbean Premier Leagud this year. Having been dropped bx | :23:27. | :23:30.
England, he's become one of the most desirable players for teams to | :23:31. | :23:33.
employ across the whole world. He has already capped the Daredevils in | :23:34. | :23:37.
the India Premier League but remains contracted to Surrey for thdir | :23:38. | :23:40.
Twenty20 campaign, he is hopeful he will also play for them in other | :23:41. | :23:44.
formats as well. A tough life having to go and work in the Caribbean | :23:45. | :23:51.
Three Sumatran tiger cubs born at London Zoo have made their first | :23:52. | :23:54.
public appearance. The seven`week`old cubs joined their | :23:55. | :23:56.
mother, Melati, when she ventured outside to stretch her legs earlier | :23:57. | :24:01.
this week. The cubs won't bd named until the keepers know if they're | :24:02. | :24:03.
male or female. There's a rumour that it's going to | :24:04. | :24:15.
get much warmer this weekend, Elizabeth Rizzini is here to give us | :24:16. | :24:17.
the forecast. We saw Helen on Primrose earlier, | :24:18. | :24:26.
the sun had just set. Not only is it good news in terms of a nicd | :24:27. | :24:29.
weekend, but also that we are going to see much lighter evenings with | :24:30. | :24:33.
the clocks going forward on Saturday night into Sunday. For the weekend, | :24:34. | :24:38.
it's dry and bright. Right rather than sunny. Not too much in the way | :24:39. | :24:43.
of directly bright sunshine, because there will be a lot of cloud. But | :24:44. | :24:48.
some good spells of brightndss and sunshine around, albeit a bht hazy | :24:49. | :24:52.
at times. It will be warm as well. We've had a boost in the | :24:53. | :24:56.
temperatures this afternoon with mild airbrushing in. Yes, it was a | :24:57. | :25:00.
chilly start but by the timd we got to the afternoon was feeling a lot | :25:01. | :25:05.
warmer. Most areas staying dry, but with quite a lot of cloud. The cloud | :25:06. | :25:10.
will continue into this evening Showers to the north and west, but | :25:11. | :25:14.
most of London staying dry. Some good, clear spells developing the | :25:15. | :25:17.
temperatures not dropping off very far with the southeasterly wind We | :25:18. | :25:23.
are remaining frost free into tomorrow morning. Tomorrow, a pretty | :25:24. | :25:27.
lovely day. Good spells of sunshine, quite a lot of high and | :25:28. | :25:32.
medium level cloud at times, so the sunshine will be quite hazy. A bit | :25:33. | :25:35.
of a southeasterly breeze and temperatures all the way up this | :25:36. | :25:42.
time to 18 or 19 degrees. Yds, it is above average for the time of year. | :25:43. | :25:47.
Sunday is looking very similar to Saturday. We are going to sde some | :25:48. | :25:51.
sunshine, there will be somd cloud. It will be bright rather th`n | :25:52. | :25:54.
wall`to`wall sunshine, but the winds are reasonably light and it will | :25:55. | :25:59.
stay dry. On Sunday, we could be looking at highs of 20 degrdes in | :26:00. | :26:03.
the centre of town, cooler hn some of the other towns, but we `re | :26:04. | :26:08.
looking at 20 degrees, if it gets up to 20.7 it will be the warmdst day | :26:09. | :26:12.
of the year so far. Quite a lot of showers into next week. Don't forget | :26:13. | :26:16.
the clocks going forward on Saturday night into Sunday morning. | :26:17. | :26:24.
Now a look at the main headlines. The search for the missing Lalaysian | :26:25. | :26:29.
airlines plane has moved after spotter planes found debris which | :26:30. | :26:32.
could be from the flight. 10 unidentified objects were spotted | :26:33. | :26:34.
after the search shifted 700 miles north east off the west coast of | :26:35. | :26:37.
Australia. According to the online video regulator thousands of | :26:38. | :26:40.
children, including some as young as six, have watched pornography on the | :26:41. | :26:42.
internet. But the figures don't include smartphones and tablets so | :26:43. | :26:46.
the real number is likely to be far higher. Two people in the UK have | :26:47. | :26:50.
caught tuberculosis from thdir cats in the first known cases in the | :26:51. | :26:54.
world. But cat owners are bding reassured that the risk of catching | :26:55. | :26:56.
TB from their pets is very small. That's it. I'll be back latdr during | :26:57. | :27:08.
the 10 O'Clock News. Have a lovely evening. | :27:09. | :27:11. |
