The Queen's Jubilee Barge has been snubbed by the people of Richmond,

who've decided not to give the 'Gloriana' a permanant home

It's after the local council received so many objections

they decided to scrap the idea, before the consultation had ended.

And, in place in the Queens Diamond Jubilee celebrations. -- Gloriana,

pride of place. Two years on, the barge cannot find a Hermond home.

The canal would have cut in here, taking out of the cafe and all the

playground. It would've been disaster. Campaigners here in

Twickenham have just defeated the design and plans for the barge to

move here. We have nothing against the Gloriana. But truth is, in such

a small space, it would have destroyed the playground and the

cafe and it would have changed the space completely for us. It would

have become more of a theme park. A public consultation on plans

included a boat house, visitor centre and a new cafe, is not even

finished. At the local council, which agreed to contribute up to ?1

million, says it has now pulled the plug because of overwhelming

opposition. I think it is a shame. It is a beautiful vessel designed by

a local boat builder. It would have been wonderful for local children to

learn a bit more about how it was built. But it seems to many locals

thought this was the wrong place for the barge. If Gloriana is not coming

here to Richmond, where exactly can she find a permanent home? Upriver,

in Kingston, and downriver in Hounslow, they have both expressed

an interest. Gloriana's trustees confirmed that other locations will

be explored but for now she is languishing in a dock in east

London. And in glorious legacy for the Queen's barge.
