Good afternoon and welcome to the BBC News at One.

:01:14.:01:26.

In the last few minutes, it's been revealed Sir Cliff Richard's home

:01:27.:01:28.

in Berkshire is being searched by police, in connection with

:01:29.:01:31.

The allegation dates back to the 1980s and involves a boy who was

:01:32.:01:37.

Our correspondent David Sillito has more.

:01:38.:01:48.

A small convoy of an unmarked police cars arrived mid-morning, and headed

:01:49.:01:54.

through security at the complex of apartments near Sunningdale. From

:01:55.:02:00.

the air, though, the cars could be seen as they parked, and as the

:02:01.:02:05.

police team made its way towards the empty apartment owned by Sir Cliff

:02:06.:02:09.

Richard. The officers are from South Yorkshire, and the investigation is

:02:10.:02:13.

linked to an alleged incident that took place in the county in the

:02:14.:02:18.

1980s. As the search began, police in South Yorkshire made a statement.

:02:19.:02:23.

Today, I can confirm South Yorkshire Police have gained entry into a

:02:24.:02:26.

property in the Sunningdale area of Berkshire. Officers are currently

:02:27.:02:30.

searching the property. A search warrant has been granted after the

:02:31.:02:34.

police received an allegation relating to a sexual nature, the

:02:35.:02:37.

allegation relates to a young boy, under the age of 16. The owner of

:02:38.:02:41.

the property is not present. Thank you. Cliff Richard is at the moment

:02:42.:02:48.

believe to be in Portugal. He was interviewed there this week by a

:02:49.:02:53.

radio station. The singer, one of Britain's most accessible

:02:54.:02:56.

performers, has so far made no comment about today's police

:02:57.:03:01.

operation. Back in Berkshire, the police are, at the moment,

:03:02.:03:02.

continuing the search. Dan Johnson is outside Sir Cliff's

:03:03.:03:11.

home in Sunningdale, Berkshire. This lunch time, the searches are

:03:12.:03:26.

still going on. Police officers from South Yorkshire have been in this

:03:27.:03:30.

gated, private estate for more than two hours now. We can't see much

:03:31.:03:33.

from the road because of the level of security with the walls and gates

:03:34.:03:37.

but from the helicopter pictures, we have been able to see officers,

:03:38.:03:42.

specialist officers, going through the penthouse apartment which is

:03:43.:03:44.

owned by Sir Cliff Richard. We understand there are eight officers

:03:45.:03:49.

from South Yorkshire Police here. The allegation dates back to an

:03:50.:03:57.

alleged incident that happened in South Yorkshire in the 1980s. Police

:03:58.:03:59.

say they have not made any arrests. Despite our efforts, we have not got

:04:00.:04:03.

any response from Cliff Richard or his presented lives. -- or his

:04:04.:04:06.

representatives. America says

:04:07.:04:10.

a rescue mission to help thousands of Yazidi refugees on Mount Sinjar

:04:11.:04:12.

in northern Iraq is now unlikely. Reconnaissance flights found

:04:13.:04:15.

fewer people stranded, and David Cameron welcomed the news,

:04:16.:04:17.

but said the UK had military jets and helicopters in place to "help

:04:18.:04:21.

out in the right way" if needed. British aircraft dropped more

:04:22.:04:24.

supplies over the Sinjar mountain The UN says the humanitarian crisis

:04:25.:04:28.

in northern Iraq created by the advance of Islamist

:04:29.:04:36.

militants remains critical. Our world affairs correspondent

:04:37.:04:38.

Mike Wooldridge reports. Chinook helicopters, arriving at RAF

:04:39.:04:50.

Akrotiri in Cyprus last night, before being used in the

:04:51.:04:53.

humanitarian operations in northern Iraq. It looks as though there could

:04:54.:04:59.

be a shift of priorities. The newcomer on the ground US assessment

:05:00.:05:03.

:05:04.:05:07.

thought, and that they are in better conditions than expected, comes

:05:08.:05:10.

after the succession of airdrops relief supplies to the Yazidis,

:05:11.:05:16.

including two more British airdrops of supplies overnight. It also comes

:05:17.:05:20.

after thousands of followers of the ancient religious sect have managed

:05:21.:05:23.

to make their own way off the mountain. So, as David Cameron

:05:24.:05:29.

visited a disaster response centre today, the US led rescue mission was

:05:30.:05:36.

said to be far less likely. We have to respond to the situation as it

:05:37.:05:40.

develops. We need to make sure we have good information about how

:05:41.:05:44.

money people there are, how many need to leave, how well they can get

:05:45.:05:48.

to a place of safety, and our plans have got to be flexible enough to

:05:49.:05:52.

help those people, working with allies like the Kurds, to make sure

:05:53.:05:56.

that we can help people in need. Later, Mr Cameron return to London

:05:57.:06:00.

to chair a meeting of the emergency committee, Cobra, and discuss the

:06:01.:06:04.

next steps in what he called a complex you manage Aryan operation.

:06:05.:06:11.

-- humanitarian operation. These are among the displaced people now off

:06:12.:06:15.

Mount Sinjar but still in need of help of many kinds and still

:06:16.:06:18.

traumatised by the attack on their community by Islamic State fighters.

:06:19.:06:25.

Anyone, any people, do not change his religion from the Yazidi, to the

:06:26.:06:32.

Muslim. They will kill him. Refugees have been flocking into town of

:06:36.:06:37.

Dohuk, creating a crisis graphically described by an aid official today.

:06:38.:06:42.

They are arriving without means of living was abiding. They are in dire

:06:43.:06:48.

need of household items and food to continue their uncertain existence.

:06:49.:06:54.

Aid officials hope there may now be fewer chaotic scenes like this, as

:06:55.:06:58.

an Iraqi helicopter landed on Mount Sinjar. But a rescue operation of

:06:59.:07:03.

some kind is ill not ruled out, and the talk is of flexibility, and

:07:04.:07:06.

above all, keeping pace with this tragedy.

:07:07.:07:10.

Our correspondent Jim Muir is in the Iraqi city of Irbil. The

:07:11.:07:24.

situation not as bad as expected but still acute? Still acute,

:07:25.:07:28.

challenging and fast moving and that is why the British and others,

:07:29.:07:32.

certainly the Americans, are trying to keep assets in place which could

:07:33.:07:37.

respond flexibly to this fast moving situation. The situation on Mount

:07:38.:07:40.

Sinjar seems to be less critical than it appeared 24 hours ago. There

:07:41.:07:44.

will be more airdrops but the hope is that more of the refugees, the

:07:45.:07:48.

few thousand left, we are told by the Americans and others, may be

:07:49.:07:52.

able to make their way out, as so many thousands have before them,

:07:53.:07:58.

either into the Kurdish area of neighbouring Syria or through their

:07:59.:08:00.

two Dohuk province, in North West Kurdistan. But meanwhile, the

:08:01.:08:04.

potential military threat goes on. There are reports that Islamic State

:08:05.:08:09.

are massing fighters on the southern edge of the Kurdish controlled

:08:10.:08:14.

area, something like 75 miles north of Baghdad, for a possible attack.

:08:15.:08:19.

But whether it materialises or not, people are becoming aware of the

:08:20.:08:23.

Quicksilver nature, the lightning nature of these operations by

:08:24.:08:27.

Islamic State. They attack, move somewhere else, attack again and

:08:28.:08:31.

disappear. It is an enormous challenge. The international

:08:32.:08:34.

community is scramble in to face up to it. Thank you for joining us.

:08:35.:08:37.

It's the day of reckoning for teenagers waiting for A-level

:08:38.:08:40.

results - and figures show a slight rise in the numbers getting

:08:41.:08:43.

the top A* grade - although the overall pass rate fell

:08:44.:08:45.

This year, a record number of university places

:08:46.:08:50.

are on offer to students in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

:08:51.:08:53.

It's thought some could get into their chosen university, even

:08:54.:08:56.

The long, nervous wait is over. In schools and colleges across England,

:08:57.:09:13.

Northern Ireland and Wales, it is the usual mix of relief, joy and

:09:14.:09:20.

some disappointment. I got three as and B. Better than I expected. I

:09:21.:09:24.

will be studying chemistry at Queen Mary. Two geography at Queens

:09:25.:09:31.

College. Very proud parents, I would imagine? Overall, it has been a

:09:32.:09:36.

slight decrease in the past rate from a star-8, bite .01%. It is the

:09:37.:09:42.

first robin 32 years, but it equates in a small knob, around 800. I have

:09:43.:09:50.

got three stars and an A. That is pretty good. I think I'm in. There

:09:51.:09:55.

has been an increase in A* grades being awarded and the shift towards

:09:56.:10:01.

traditional subjects, referred to as facilitating subjects like science

:10:02.:10:05.

and maths. We are seeing a savvy kind of student coming through. They

:10:06.:10:08.

know what they want, what they are being asked for. We are seeing a

:10:09.:10:13.

shift to the more facilitating subjects, as the universities

:10:14.:10:17.

describe them. And the rise in A* grades which we think is around the

:10:18.:10:22.

students strategies. It has been a busy morning for the university

:10:23.:10:27.

admissions service. There are 30,000 extra university places this year

:10:28.:10:30.

and it is expected that the first time, more than 500,000 places will

:10:31.:10:40.

be allocated for courses this autumn. Demand is strong.

:10:41.:10:42.

Universities want to recruit people, even now, after qualifications, they

:10:43.:10:44.

want to recruit people through clearing. We have 30,000 courses

:10:45.:10:48.

advertising vacancies. It is a really good time if you are applying

:10:49.:10:53.

through clearing this year. Whether students have not done as well as

:10:54.:10:57.

expected or better, because there are a record number of university

:10:58.:11:00.

places on offer this year, many more will have the option to shop around

:11:01.:11:04.

in what is increasingly a buyers market. Having achieved two a grades

:11:05.:11:10.

and an A*. Kumar is one of many whose options have opened up. I have

:11:11.:11:15.

got my firm choice but I can go higher if I want. Definitely, I

:11:16.:11:23.

will. A bit of shopping around? Yes. There are still more Britons in

:11:24.:11:25.

university places and some will miss out. -- more applicants than

:11:26.:11:30.

university places. But they stand a better chance than ever.

:11:31.:11:32.

Our education correspondent Alex Forsyth is in Bristol.

:11:33.:11:44.

The phrase buyers market was used. It sounds like it is a good time to

:11:45.:11:50.

chase a university place. Yes, we are in the West of England and these

:11:51.:11:55.

helpers are trying to fill the couple of hundred places they have

:11:56.:11:58.

got left. This institution has had over 3000 calls this morning

:11:59.:12:02.

already. It seems as though this will be replicated up and down the

:12:03.:12:06.

country but as you say, it is a particularly good year for students.

:12:07.:12:09.

Despite the slight drop in the overall pass rate, there is a record

:12:10.:12:14.

number of places on offer. That is deliberate by the government,

:12:15.:12:17.

offering 30,000 more and institutions can offer as many as

:12:18.:12:20.

they want to high achieving students. While some pupils may not

:12:21.:12:24.

quite have got the grades they need, they could still get into

:12:25.:12:28.

their first was university. Those that don't still have plenty of

:12:29.:12:31.

options available through clearing operations like this. This year,

:12:32.:12:35.

even some of the top universities have offered places through

:12:36.:12:38.

clearing. Of course, that does not mean every student will get to study

:12:39.:12:43.

what they want, where they want. But various still plenty of time for

:12:44.:12:46.

them to get onto a course which they think will help their career. --

:12:47.:12:54.

there is still plenty of time. Universities need to get the places

:12:55.:12:56.

filled to make sure they balance the books.

:12:57.:12:57.

Israel and the Palestinians have agreed a fresh five-day ceasefire

:12:58.:13:00.

in Gaza, negotiated at the end of a three-day truce.

:13:01.:13:02.

The decision is intended to allow time for more substantial talks,

:13:03.:13:05.

aimed at resolving the deadlock between the two sides.

:13:06.:13:10.

Failing GP practices in England could be closed

:13:11.:13:13.

if they don't improve, under a new inspection programme.

:13:14.:13:16.

Surgeries given the bottom rating of "inadequate" will get six months

:13:17.:13:20.

to resolve problems, and could then face outside intervention, through

:13:21.:13:23.

But doctors' leaders say closing practices won't improve

:13:24.:13:28.

Our health correspondent Jane Dreaper has more.

:13:29.:13:39.

Patients use GP surgeries more than any other part of the NHS. Teams of

:13:40.:13:46.

inspectors are visiting all 8000 practices in England over the next

:13:47.:13:50.

18 months, looking at how well patients are treated, and whether

:13:51.:13:55.

surgeries are clean and well run. Failing practices will be given six

:13:56.:14:00.

months to improve or face closure. The first inspections have found a

:14:01.:14:04.

few practices where care has been poor for many years. When we have

:14:05.:14:09.

spoken to local people, they have raised concerns. Local GPs have

:14:10.:14:13.

known the practices that have been poor. But the NHS has not done

:14:14.:14:17.

anything about it. We think that is wrong. There needs to be a

:14:18.:14:24.

consistent and transparent system. The new ratings the GP surgeries

:14:25.:14:26.

will be published in November. Patients will be able to see how

:14:27.:14:30.

their practice has scored in one of four categories. It is the first

:14:31.:14:35.

time there has been an independent inspections system, designed to

:14:36.:14:37.

uncover what is thought to be a small number of practices which are

:14:38.:14:43.

not serving patients well. Doctors leaders admixed some surgeries are

:14:44.:14:47.

struggling, but they say that sometimes this is down to funding

:14:48.:14:51.

pressures, and difficulties in recruiting GPs. They want failing

:14:52.:14:55.

surgeries to be given help, not blame. There will be some practices

:14:56.:15:01.

that are given support without closure. But the small number that

:15:02.:15:04.

do close will be given a lot of support to help them get back on

:15:05.:15:09.

track quickly. It is in nobody's test interest to close general

:15:10.:15:12.

practices around the country. We are short staffed enough as it is and it

:15:13.:15:17.

would benefit nobody. Under the new system, inspectors will share any

:15:18.:15:20.

concerns about underperforming doctors with the medical regulator.

:15:21.:15:25.

The measures have been welcomed by the Patients' Association. It says

:15:26.:15:28.

this scrutiny of GP care is long overdue. IS Our top story. Sir Cliff

:15:29.:15:41.

Richard 's Berkshire home is being searched by police in connection

:15:42.:15:44.

with an allegation of a sexual nature dating back to the 1980s.

:15:45.:15:49.

Still to come, England's brilliant bowler, Moeen Ali, and his new-found

:15:50.:15:51.

role model status. The first A-level students to study

:15:52.:15:54.

at a free school celebrate their results today - with many

:15:55.:15:57.

gaining places at top universities. And Mo Farah beats

:15:58.:16:00.

the elements to take gold over 10,000 metres at the

:16:01.:16:03.

European Championships in Zurich. 45 years ago the world watched

:16:04.:16:13.

as Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin took "one small step for man,

:16:14.:16:17.

one giant leap for mankind". The historic moon-landing

:16:18.:16:20.

established the Americans as the leaders in the Space Race

:16:21.:16:23.

against the Soviet Union. But

:16:24.:16:26.

when NASA closed its space-shuttle programme, that dynamic changed and

:16:27.:16:28.

the US became dependent on Russia. Now, political tensions between

:16:29.:16:33.

the two countries over Ukraine is threatening the collaboration,

:16:34.:16:35.

as our science correspondent The moment that marked the end of

:16:36.:16:53.

the intense rivalry of the space race, in 1975 the Americans and

:16:54.:16:57.

Soviets made history, docking spacecraft. With this handshake they

:16:58.:17:01.

paved the way for a new time of collaboration. But today the

:17:02.:17:06.

Americans do not just work with the Russians, they depend upon them.

:17:07.:17:12.

This is the Discovery shuttle, it ferried astronauts to space the

:17:13.:17:15.

nilly 30 years, today though it is here, in a museum. There is no

:17:16.:17:20.

replacement com instead the Americans have to pay the Russians

:17:21.:17:24.

for a ride in their spacecraft, at a cost of more than $60 million per

:17:25.:17:30.

seat. The International Space Station has long served as a symbol

:17:31.:17:34.

of unity in space. But the Russians have threatened to put a stop to

:17:35.:17:40.

these space taxi rides, effectively grounding American astronauts. But

:17:41.:17:45.

the Russians would also lose out. In the case of building the

:17:46.:17:48.

International Space Station, America agreed to build the electronics and

:17:49.:17:52.

the Power Systems and Bush agreed to build the fuel systems. We are

:17:53.:18:02.

joined together. -- Russia agreed. But also the rockets which launch

:18:03.:18:07.

American satellites, including the military satellites, are powered by

:18:08.:18:10.

engines which are bought from Russia. In essence, America needs

:18:11.:18:15.

Russian technology to spy upon Russia. But now the supply line is

:18:16.:18:22.

under threat. We cannot put up the satellites reliably by ourselves

:18:23.:18:24.

right now, if Russia said we're not giving you any more, we would have

:18:25.:18:31.

to scramble to a replacement. For now, at least, these problems seem a

:18:32.:18:36.

long way away for the cosmonauts and the astronauts currently on board

:18:37.:18:40.

the space station. Their work could help to take humans to Mars or

:18:41.:18:47.

beyond. I would be very sad if collaboration between Russia and the

:18:48.:18:52.

United States and the collaboration between Russia and the European

:18:53.:18:56.

Union would fail. Because it is against Russian interests and

:18:57.:18:58.

American interests and European interests. For many years the

:18:59.:19:05.

alliance in space has survived political upheavals. But if recent

:19:06.:19:10.

tensions grow, the of space without Borders could be at an end.

:19:11.:19:17.

Well, tensions between Russia and Ukraine are continuing.

:19:18.:19:19.

Russian trucks carrying aid are heading for rebel-held eastern

:19:20.:19:21.

Ukraine, despite Ukrainian officials saying they wouldn't allow them in.

:19:22.:19:23.

There is continuing confusion about exactly where they're going.

:19:24.:19:28.

It comes as President Putin visits Crimea, which was annexed by Russia

:19:29.:19:31.

Our correspondent Daniel Sandford joins us now from Moscow.

:19:32.:19:38.

Daniel, what are the risks that the argument over the convoy could make

:19:39.:19:46.

the crisis worse? There are very real risks come at the heart of the

:19:47.:19:52.

story are the people of the city of Luhansk, currently occupied by

:19:53.:19:56.

pro-Russian forces, surrounded by forces from the Ukrainian army who

:19:57.:20:00.

are shelling the suburbs of the city, people are without water and

:20:01.:20:05.

electricity, the International committee for the red is our keen to

:20:06.:20:12.

get aid in, to leave. -- for the Red Cross. They will need a cease-fire

:20:13.:20:15.

to do that. What happened is that Russia decided to send a convoy of

:20:16.:20:20.

over 200 trucks from Moscow, 1000 miles from Luhansk, the trucks are

:20:21.:20:25.

now 20 miles from the Ukrainian border. They do not have the

:20:26.:20:28.

permission of the Ukrainian government to enter the Ukraine,

:20:29.:20:32.

they have not been verified, checked by any international organisations

:20:33.:20:37.

as to what they contain. We are now in a position, if those trucks

:20:38.:20:41.

crossed the border into the Ukraine, and there, the border is controlled

:20:42.:20:46.

by pro-Russian gunmen, there is a risk that somebody could open fire.

:20:47.:20:51.

It could obviously exacerbate the situation. Allowing Russia to come

further into the conflict. Or, if the trucks go up, to where the

:20:58.:21:02.

Ukrainian forces are, on the outskirts of Luhansk and they are

:21:03.:21:05.

blocked from entering the city, in itself this could produce very

:21:06.:21:10.

serious tensions. There is a mad scramble at the moment by

:21:11.:21:13.

international organisations like the Red Cross, the OSCE, to try to make

:21:14.:21:18.

sure if the convoy enters, it enters with Ukrainian government

permission. But the Ukrainians are sending their own convoy and it does

:21:24.:21:26.

not look as if they will give permission for the convoy to enter

:21:27.:21:28.

the country. Thank you for joining us.

There's been a fourth night of protests

:21:36.:21:37.

in the American state of Missouri following the death of an unarmed

:21:38.:21:40.

black teenager who was shot dead by police in St Louis last Saturday.

:21:41.:21:43.

Crowds defied a police order and gathered in one

:21:44.:21:46.

of the city's suburbs as armoured police cars blocked off streets.

:21:52.:21:59.

times last night, Ferguson, Missouri, resembled a war zone.

:22:00.:22:03.

Protesters fought running battles with the police. Officers responded

:22:04.:22:08.

with tear gas, stun grenades and smoke bombs. You must disperse

:22:09.:22:19.

immediately! It was an instruction most demonstrators ignored, they had

:22:20.:22:22.

been gathering every night since Saturday, when Michael Brown was

:22:23.:22:26.

shot. The exact circumstances which led to the 18-year-old 's death are

:22:27.:22:30.

still not clear. Eyewitnesses claimed the teenager had his arms

:22:31.:22:33.

raised in surrender when he was shot several times by a police officer.

:22:34.:22:38.

The police said there was a struggle and the officer suffered facial

:22:39.:22:45.

injuries. CHANTING The protesters, who have been

:22:46.:22:48.

campaigning the day as well, claimed that Mr Brown was a victim of racism

in a town where the population is predominantly black, and the local

:22:54.:22:56.

police force almost exclusively white. They need to respect the fact

:22:57.:23:02.

we are citizens in the city, they need to give as equal rights that

:23:03.:23:06.

you have when you go home to your children. The police however, say

:23:07.:23:14.

they are working with the community. We have always had a good

:23:15.:23:19.

relationship with the neighbourhood Association, apparently there has

:23:20.:23:21.

been an undertow which has bubbled to the surface. It is our first

:23:22.:23:29.

priority to address that. But with more protests expected tonight, the

:23:30.:23:32.

atmosphere in Ferguson, Missouri, remains tense.

:23:33.:23:39.

On the day after the Bank of England upgraded forecasts for economic

:23:40.:23:42.

growth here, new figures show the Eurozone's two biggest economies

:23:43.:23:44.

In Germany the economy shrank by 0.2% in the three months to

:23:45.:23:48.

the end of June, while the French economy saw no growth.

Pope Francis has arrived in South Korea for his first visit to Asia

:23:57.:24:00.

At the beginning of his five-day visit, he called

:24:01.:24:03.

for dialogue and reconciliation on the divided Korean peninsula.

:24:04.:24:07.

He earlier sent a message of goodwill to China, raising hopes

of an easing of tensions between the Vatican and Beijing.

Tomorrow, England's cricketers could win their

:24:17.:24:18.

series against India to complete a remarkable turn around in fortunes.

:24:19.:24:23.

England lead 2-1 with the final test starting at the Oval.

:24:24.:24:26.

This comes after one of England's worst runs in recent history.

:24:27.:24:30.

With 19 wickets, and two match-winning bowling

:24:31.:24:34.

performances, Moeen Ali has become the figurehead of the new-look team,

:24:35.:24:37.

The Oval is the traditional finishing line, last year, dear,

:24:38.:24:50.

England were winning the Ashes, 12 months later half of the team were

:24:51.:24:54.

gone. Unprecedented restructuring has introduced Jos Buttler, Chris

:24:55.:24:57.

Jordan, Sam Robson, all-new this summer. This man has represented the

:24:58.:25:03.

revival. Moeen Ali will always stand out, I have enjoyed several

:25:04.:25:08.

conversations this summer about his Muslim faith, which he expresses

:25:09.:25:14.

most visibly with his beard. It is always really important. 19 wickets

:25:15.:25:23.

against India, I have lost count. We are doing all right. While he

:25:24.:25:28.

concentrates on his bowling, his status as a role model is widely

:25:29.:25:33.

appreciated. In Birmingham, where he's from, I spoke to this man, most

:25:34.:25:41.

famous for his comedy creations. He seeks to normalise British Muslim

identity, cricket can do the same. Is a British Muslim, as a Birmingham

:25:47.:25:53.

native, I just want to be on an equal footing, we do not want to be

:25:54.:25:57.

superior, inferior, we want to be on a level playing field. There is no

:25:58.:26:01.

more than a level playing field than playing cricket for your country.

:26:02.:26:06.

For somebody like Moeen Ali to be chosen purely because he's one of

:26:07.:26:10.

the best 11 people in this country at playing cricket, it is absolutely

:26:11.:26:15.

superb. Of course there are still old faces in the team, this is

:26:16.:26:19.

Stuart Broad, really, after being struck by the ball in the last test

:26:20.:26:23.

he was practising batting today. Though significantly he was wearing

:26:24.:26:24.

a different design of helmet. It's emerged that passengers

:26:25.:26:34.

on a Flybe flight suffered a bumpy landing

:26:35.:26:37.

when their pilot's prosthetic arm came off, and he temporarily lost

:26:38.:26:39.

control of the plane. The pilot still managed to land

land the pilot realised the clamp which attached his hand to the

:27:10.:27:13.

controls had become detached. He knew he did not have enough time to

:27:14.:27:17.

explain the landing information to the co-pilot so he moved his other

:27:18.:27:20.

hand from the power lever onto the controls to regain control. That

:27:21.:27:24.

meant the power was still on, and when the plane hit the runway, there

:27:25.:27:31.

was a bump. Non-other 47 passengers were injured and the plane was not

:27:48.:27:51.

quite common, but not pathetic arms. We have to go through

control was lost, it was only for a moment. The pilot told investigators

:28:12.:28:16.

in future he would alert colleagues to the possibility of his arm

:28:17.:28:22.

becoming detached. Flybe says it is proud to employ staff with reduced

:28:23.:28:25.

physical abilities and the pilot remains one of the company 's most

:28:26.:28:33.

trusted and experienced. Time for a look at the weather now. We have

:28:34.:28:43.

showers, more widespread than yesterday, more angry, widespread

:28:44.:28:48.

thunderstorms across southern Wales, and southern England and the South

:28:49.:28:51.

Midlands. These storms we have picked up on the radar picture, some

:28:52.:28:56.

heavy showers further north as well across southern Scotland, drifting

:28:57.:28:59.

into northern England. Let's take a look at this afternoon 's forecast.

:29:00.:29:04.

It is one of the days where you will want to keep the umbrella close.

:29:05.:29:07.

Heavy showers to the south of London, we could get some in the

:29:08.:29:11.

capital. Downpours across south-west England. Easing off later, but heavy

:29:12.:29:15.

rain later, affecting southern Wales. In the heaviest downpours we

:29:16.:29:21.

could see 20 millimetres of rainfall in one hour. Puddles on the road and

:29:22.:29:28.

difficult travelling situation. Largely dry weather in Northern

:29:29.:29:31.

Ireland, this is one place where the weather is finally quieting down.

:29:32.:29:35.

Heading through this even in, the heavy showers we have got in

:29:36.:29:38.

Scotland will drift into North East England -- this evening. The

:29:39.:29:44.

temperatures will gradually drop away. Temperature wise, similar lows

:29:45.:29:51.

to last night, 11-14?, but a bit cruel in rule areas. Where we have

:29:52.:29:57.

more clear skies. Moving on into Friday, it is a better day, that

:29:58.:30:03.

pressure will have built, which tends to kill off most of the

:30:04.:30:05.

showers, there will be more sunshine. That said, some heavy

:30:06.:30:09.

showers in the afternoon across the Pennines, perhaps drifting into the

:30:10.:30:15.

Midlands and central and southern England and perhaps threatening

:30:16.:30:18.

London later. The weekend, not looking particularly good to be

:30:19.:30:23.

honest, strengthening winds, quite blustery and spells of rain. Also

:30:24.:30:26.

brighter spells and probably the best of the weather will be on

:30:27.:30:30.

Saturday across England and Wales. Not a bad start but it will turn

:30:31.:30:33.

breezy with the cloud spreading later. The wind will get across the

:30:34.:30:40.

West of the British Isles, the rain moving into Scotland, gale force

:30:41.:30:44.

winds as low pressure moves in for the weekend. Looking at somewhere

:30:45.:30:48.

like Aberdeen, it is 18 degrees on Saturday. When we get to Sunday and

:30:49.:30:53.

the winds come from a northerly direction the temperatures will be

:30:54.:30:58.

dropping away, highs of 14 degrees with outbreaks of rain and gale

:30:59.:31:00.

force winds. Showers expected further south. Not the best of

:31:01.:31:06.

weekends, for the moment the summer is on hold. A reminder of our top

:31:07.:31:13.

story. Police investigating a historic allegation of a sexual

:31:14.:31:17.

nature are searching a property owned by Sir Cliff Richard in

:31:18.:31:22.

Berkshire. The allegation dates back to the 1980s, and was made to South

:31:23.:31:28.

Yorkshire Police. The search warrant was granted after the police

:31:29.:31:31.

received an allegation of a sexual nature dating back to the 1980s. The

:31:32.:31:35.

allegation involved a young boy under the age of 16. At that time.

:31:36.:31:42.

The owner of the property is not present. That is all from us.
