Israel says it won't stop its attacks on Gaza until all | :00:00. | :00:09.
the tunnels built by Palestinian militants are destroyed. | :00:10. | :00:17.
Despite growing international condemnation, Israel says the | :00:18. | :00:23.
offensive will last for another few days. In Gaza, residents say they | :00:24. | :00:34.
are facing a precipice, with 400,000 people facing leaving their homes. | :00:35. | :00:36.

Gas - the mild winter's to blame. Gatwick's baggage problems - | :00:41. | :00:42.

the height of the holiday season. And England's first Test win | :00:46. | :00:48.
in almost a year as they overwhelm India in the | :00:49. | :00:50.

And could ankle tags checking how much offenders drink cut crime? | :01:02. | :01:23.
Good evening and welcome to the BBC's News at Six. | :01:24. | :01:27.
The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has warned that | :01:28. | :01:30.
his country's armed forces will continue to destroy tunnels used | :01:31. | :01:32.
by Palestinian militants, with or without a ceasefire. | :01:33. | :01:36.
Mr Netanyahu has also praised the performance of the | :01:37. | :01:39.
Israel Defence Forces, despite strong international criticism | :01:40. | :01:44.
of the civilian deaths in Gaza. The Gaza conflict began 24 days ago. | :01:45. | :01:48.
It's now the longest war in Gaza in recent times. | :01:49. | :01:52.
The Israel Defence Forces say they are just days away | :01:53. | :01:54.
from destroying all of the 32 tunnels built by Hamas that they | :01:55. | :01:57.
have identified and 59,000 army reservists have now been mobilised. | :01:58. | :02:03.
Our World Affairs Correspondent Orla Guerin has been speaking to | :02:04. | :02:11.
This is footage that Israel is keen to share, an air strike in Gaza are | :02:12. | :02:17.
being aborted because children are spotted. But the UN says most of | :02:18. | :02:21.
those killed by Israel are innocent civilians. From the outside, it | :02:22. | :02:27.
looks like a regular plane... Today, we met one of the pilots that flies | :02:28. | :02:32.
over Gaza every day, identifying targets. We cannot show his face. | :02:33. | :02:37.
The aircraft used for these missions have cameras mounted underneath and | :02:38. | :02:43.
fly at up to 35,000 feet. Gaza is a very densely populated area... He | :02:44. | :02:50.
shows us, in a simulator, his birds eye view of the terrain. This is a | :02:51. | :02:55.
crowded area, people have nowhere to go, in many cases they have no | :02:56. | :03:00.
transport or means of escape, and you are attacking hospitals where | :03:01. | :03:03.
the wounded are being treated. Well, at the moment, we are doing | :03:04. | :03:08.
everything possible to ensure the security and safety of both our | :03:09. | :03:12.
civilians and, as much as possible, the Palestinian civilians. We have | :03:13. | :03:16.
offered medical aid and we have offered a field hospital. Wouldn't | :03:17. | :03:21.
it be better for you to stop bombing the civilians, rather than offering | :03:22. | :03:25.
their medical aid later? Israel has always opted for a double magic | :03:26. | :03:29.
solution. Some people might ask how you sleep at night? I sleep very | :03:30. | :03:35.
well at night because I know what we are doing is saving lives. The way I | :03:36. | :03:41.
see it. Saving Israeli lives? No, no, I know how many attacks I have | :03:42. | :03:46.
called off, and I'm talking about numerous attacks. I know as a fact | :03:47. | :03:51.
that I have saved dozens of lives. But the lives lost in Gaza are | :03:52. | :03:55.
causing growing international pressure on Israel. The message from | :03:56. | :03:58.
the Prime Minister today, the offensive will continue. | :03:59. | :04:05.
TRANSLATION: So far we have neutralised dozens of terror tunnels | :04:06. | :04:08.
and we are determined to complete this mission, with or without a | :04:09. | :04:12.
cease-fire. That is why I will not accept any proposal that will not | :04:13. | :04:16.
enable the IDF to complete this important task for the safety of the | :04:17. | :04:21.
people of Israel. Near the Gaza border, close to the front line, | :04:22. | :04:26.
soldiers rest and regroup. An extra 16,000 reserve lists have been | :04:27. | :04:31.
called up. This teacher has two sons fighting in Gaza, and is going to | :04:32. | :04:35.
join them. This is our life. Nobody chooses it. We have to do it because | :04:36. | :04:43.
of the situation. We hope that it will be the end of the story very | :04:44. | :04:50.
soon. The army says it will finish destroying the attack tunnels within | :04:51. | :04:54.
days. But a senior Israeli official has told the BBC there is no | :04:55. | :05:00.
stopwatch for this operation. The international community is pleading | :05:01. | :05:05.
for a cease-fire, but Israel is not ruling out a much broader offensive | :05:06. | :05:09.
if Hamas attacks don't stop. The choice ahead now for Israel is | :05:10. | :05:12.
withdraw or hit much harder. The UN has tonight warned that | :05:13. | :05:24.
the population of Gaza is facing a precipice and has called upon | :05:25. | :05:26.
the international community to address the extreme situation. | :05:27. | :05:29.
A UN official in the region has said his staff cannot cope. | :05:30. | :05:32.
So far 1,400 Palestinians have died in the conflict and 58 Israelis, | :05:33. | :05:37.
all but two of them soldiers. The UN estimates that 425,000 | :05:38. | :05:40.
Palestinians, a quarter of Gaza's population, have | :05:41. | :05:44.
been displaced by the fighting. Our International correspondent, | :05:45. | :05:47.
Ian Pannell reports now on the plight of some | :05:48. | :05:48.
of those who have left their homes. A rescue mission to a small town on | :05:49. | :06:02.
the southern fringes of Gaza. A front line between Israelis and | :06:03. | :06:08.
militants. Every time the Red Cross has tried to get in, they have been | :06:09. | :06:13.
shot at. But this week, both sides agreed to a brief cease-fire. We are | :06:14. | :06:19.
just here to escort some ambulances from the Palestinian red Crescent | :06:20. | :06:24.
Society, in to rescue some wounded people. In this town, that has been | :06:25. | :06:32.
isolated due to the fighting for the past few days. What is the | :06:33. | :06:37.
situation, as far as you are aware? We don't know. It's on the border, | :06:38. | :06:43.
it is very tense. The Israelis refuse to let us in. But the team | :06:44. | :06:45.
was it is very tense. The Israelis | :06:46. | :06:46.
refuse to let us in. But given the all clear. The town has been cut off | :06:47. | :06:53.
by Israeli troops. Many have died and the few that could not escape | :06:54. | :07:01.
are trapped. The truce was brief. Unable to stay any longer, the Red | :07:02. | :07:07.
Cross pulled out. They recovered a handful of bodies and three elderly | :07:08. | :07:15.
residents, hiding in the town. This woman is 95. Her family didn't know | :07:16. | :07:19.
she was alive until two hours ago. They had fled the fighting, but she | :07:20. | :07:24.
was too old to run out at night, so she spent five days living with a | :07:25. | :07:31.
neighbour. An 84-year-old, barely to stand, he also couldn't escape. I | :07:32. | :07:37.
cannot describe my feelings. It's horrible. We are living in fear, for | :07:38. | :07:45.
five days. We couldn't contact him for five days, knowing that he can | :07:46. | :07:51.
barely walk alone to the toilet, or to make a sandwich for himself. Our | :07:52. | :07:57.
life was a nightmare until now. We found him again today, lying on the | :07:58. | :08:03.
floor of a classroom that he shares with 70 others. Don't tell me life | :08:04. | :08:12.
here is better, he says. I want to go home. I was born there, God | :08:13. | :08:17.
willing, I'll die there. He was supposed to stay in hospital | :08:18. | :08:20.
longer, but they didn't have space because of so many wounded. Before | :08:21. | :08:26.
this conflict started, there were 17,000 people being housed by the | :08:27. | :08:32.
UN. Today, that figure has gone up to 220,000. The organisation says it | :08:33. | :08:37.
is overwhelmed and reaching breaking point. In this school alone, there | :08:38. | :08:41.
are now 5000 people living and taking shelter here. But, after | :08:42. | :08:48.
yesterday's attack on another school, the UN says nowhere is safe | :08:49. | :08:52.
any more. With so many people now on the move, Gaza is starting to feel | :08:53. | :08:55.
near breaking point. So with both sides as entrenched | :08:56. | :09:05.
as ever, how can this war be brought to an end? | :09:06. | :09:07.
And what can the international community do to help? | :09:08. | :09:09.
Here's our Diplomatic Correspondent, James Robbins. | :09:10. | :09:14.
After 24 days of increasingly intense fighting, the outside world | :09:15. | :09:19.
may be pleading for an end to this conflict. | :09:20. | :09:21.
James Robbins. but neither side is looking | :09:22. | :09:24.
for an end - at least not yet. The fundamental enmity | :09:25. | :09:26.
between the two sides and the great divide remains. | :09:27. | :09:29.
Israel says it means to finish the job of disarming Hamas, | :09:30. | :09:31.
destroying its rockets and all its tunnels, while Hamas | :09:32. | :09:34.
insists it won't accept a ceasefire until Israel commits to lifting | :09:35. | :09:37.
the eight year blockade of Gaza. For now, | :09:38. | :09:39.
the outside world seems almost powerless to stop the fighting. | :09:40. | :09:47.
Seen from the United States, how does this conflict look? Good | :09:48. | :09:56.
morning! Overwhelmingly, Americans back Israel. Israel calls of | :09:57. | :10:03.
reservists is, and made a new vowel from Benton Netanyahu. The United | :10:04. | :10:07.
States remains Israel's most important ally, and public opinion | :10:08. | :10:11.
is squarely behind their action. There has never been a more | :10:12. | :10:15.
important time to send a message to the world and Israel about this | :10:16. | :10:18.
relationship, about what it means to us, and how committed we are. | :10:19. | :10:25.
Behind-the-scenes, relations between the leaders are now particularly | :10:26. | :10:29.
strained. President Obama has been highly critical of Israel's killing | :10:30. | :10:34.
of civilians. But America continues to resupply Israel with weapons for | :10:35. | :10:39.
the fight. An arms embargo on Israel is unthinkable in Washington. So, | :10:40. | :10:43.
can the United Nations stop the killing? The UN has led the moral | :10:44. | :10:48.
outrage, condemning attacks on children sheltering in schools in | :10:49. | :10:52.
Gaza. The Security Council has been in session, as the UN's top | :10:53. | :10:56.
representative inside Gaza appealed for help and others called on Israel | :10:57. | :11:01.
to change tactics. I would say that they appear to be defying, | :11:02. | :11:10.
deliberate defiance of obligations that international law imposes on | :11:11. | :11:14.
Israel. But the UN's key powers can't agree on any action to change | :11:15. | :11:19.
what is happening on the ground. So, what chance a cease-fire delivered | :11:20. | :11:24.
by leaders in the Middle East itself? Hamas looks increasingly | :11:25. | :11:27.
isolated in the region. Egypt has been trying to broker a durable | :11:28. | :11:32.
truce, but is now an enemy of Hamas since President Sese overthrew the | :11:33. | :11:37.
Muslim brotherhood. Hamas has lost much of its support from Syria and | :11:38. | :11:43.
Iran and its remaining ally, Qatar, hasn't persuaded Hamas too soft on | :11:44. | :11:46.
its demands. So the grim reality is that a divided world, however | :11:47. | :11:51.
appalled by the images of suffering in this conflict, lacks the | :11:52. | :11:54.
collective will to stop it. You can find much more on our website, with | :11:55. | :12:00.
lots of extra background to the conflict. | :12:01. | :12:03.
There's been a sharp fall in half-year profits at British Gas, | :12:04. | :12:08.
largely because of the mild winter. The UK's biggest domestic energy | :12:09. | :12:11.
supplier saw its profits drop by 26% in the first half | :12:12. | :12:16.
of this year to ?265 million. Profits at its parent company, | :12:17. | :12:19.
Centrica, were also down, although it still made more than ?1 | :12:20. | :12:23.
billion in profit. Here's our Industry Correspondent, | :12:24. | :12:24.
John Moylan. Basking in the sun. It's been a | :12:25. | :12:37.
glorious summer. But it was a mild winter as well. So we've all been | :12:38. | :12:43.
using less energy. According to the outgoing boss of Britain's biggest | :12:44. | :12:47.
energy supplier, that has caused British Gas profits to fall. On the | :12:48. | :12:52.
British Gas side, because of the very warm weather, average | :12:53. | :12:58.
consumption for gas customers was down 24%. That means that bills, | :12:59. | :13:01.
when you combine it with a price reduction at the beginning of the | :13:02. | :13:04.
year and the fact we're not going to increase prices later in the year, | :13:05. | :13:08.
means that bills this year will be down some ?90, or 7%. Ronnie Robson, | :13:09. | :13:15.
a British Gas customer, says he used less energy last winter, but it | :13:16. | :13:19.
didn't stop him trying to keep his bills as low as possible. It was eat | :13:20. | :13:25.
or heat. I cut down with the light bulbs, energy-saving light bulbs. I | :13:26. | :13:28.
switched things off, try to save pennies here, pennies there. Every | :13:29. | :13:34.
penny counts. British Gas expects its profit per household to be ?51 | :13:35. | :13:41.
this year. That is down on 2013. But the energy regulator has estimated | :13:42. | :13:44.
margins at ?106 for a large supplier, prompting a row in an | :13:45. | :13:51.
industry already facing a major competition probe. Consumers will be | :13:52. | :13:54.
confused about what is going on, with profits down yet the forecast | :13:55. | :14:00.
for profits being up. We need to see this investigation from the | :14:01. | :14:02.
competition authority to get to the bottom of what is going on with | :14:03. | :14:07.
energy prices. Centrica's boss says it needs to make reasonable profits | :14:08. | :14:10.
to help pay for major projects like this. Sam Laidlaw's successor will | :14:11. | :14:17.
face the same scrutiny over profits and prices. But he will also be | :14:18. | :14:21.
running a business that is investing billions, not least in this huge | :14:22. | :14:26.
North Sea platform and the construction in Hartlepool, that | :14:27. | :14:28.
will provide gas for Britain for decades to come. But that's for the | :14:29. | :14:35.
future. For now, the row over how much the industry is really making | :14:36. | :14:37.
from all of us continues to burn. attacks on Gaza until all of the | :14:38. | :14:55.
tunnels are destroyed. Another gold winning medal performance by Claudia | :14:56. | :14:59.
Fragapane at the Commonwealth Games. On BBC London, Help to Buy is doing | :15:00. | :15:05.
little to help Londoners get a foot on the property ladder. And could | :15:06. | :15:10.
David Weir win his first Commonwealth Games medal in Glasgow? | :15:11. | :15:19.
It's known as the Dark Net - a shadowy part of the internet, | :15:20. | :15:24.
inaccessible to the vast majority of people. | :15:25. | :15:27.
And increasingly it's being used for the sale of illegal drugs. | :15:28. | :15:30.
In October last year there were just over 18,000 drugs listed for sale | :15:31. | :15:33.
on the Dark Net. But a BBC investigation has | :15:34. | :15:35.
found that the figure has risen to more than 43,000. | :15:36. | :15:38.
The Dark Net has now become so popular with drugs users | :15:39. | :15:41.
in the UK, that a recent survey suggested more than a quarter may | :15:42. | :15:44.
have accessed the sites. Angus Crawford has | :15:45. | :15:44.

Nobody is good to find out who I am. After months of negotiation, we | :16:35. | :16:38.
prepare -- we persuaded the Dark Net drug dealer in California to talk to | :16:39. | :16:43.
us. He would only do so anonymously and using encrypted e-mail. | :16:44. | :17:09.
Last year, the FBI closed down the best-known drugs market on the Dark | :17:10. | :17:18.
Net. Its founder was arrested. That has not stopped the trade. Dealers | :17:19. | :17:23.
and buyers use special browsers and encryption software. They are | :17:24. | :17:30.
anonymous and hard to trace. Which, for authorities in the US, makes | :17:31. | :17:34.
this the front line. A sorting office in California and lean more | :17:35. | :17:38.

Customs officers here says it also goes in the other direction. This is | :18:10. | :18:16.

Customs and the Royal Mail and is actively targeting criminals who use | :18:28. | :18:33.
sites on the Dark Net. They think they may be doing something like | :18:34. | :18:36.
online shopping. They are wrong. They are committing crime. They are | :18:37. | :18:40.
working with illegal drugs and fuelling the illegal drugs trade. It | :18:41. | :18:45.
may take some time and they may be difficult to get at but they are not | :18:46. | :18:49.
either of our reach. It seems more people like Sam are now buying their | :18:50. | :18:54.
drugs hidden in the Aron Andersson of the .net. -- hidden in the | :18:55. | :19:00.
anonymity of the Dark Net. Gatwick Airport says it's drafting | :19:01. | :19:06.
in extra staff this weekend to try to reduce baggage delays | :19:07. | :19:08.
for passengers. On Saturday and Sunday, hundreds of | :19:09. | :19:11.
people flying into the airport were left waiting for several hours. | :19:12. | :19:14.
Many others had to get on their flight without their bags because | :19:15. | :19:16.
of staff shortages at the baggage handling company, Swissport. | :19:17. | :19:18.
Our Transport Correspondent, Richard Westcott, is at Gatwick now. | :19:19. | :19:23.
Well over a quarter of a million people will be coming through these | :19:24. | :19:29.
doors at Gatwick Airport over the weekend. It is going to be one of | :19:30. | :19:33.
the busiest weekends of the year. A lot of those people will be coming | :19:34. | :19:37.
back from their holiday. The last thing you want is to wait hours for | :19:38. | :19:42.
your bags. That happened last weekend. Airports had to draft in | :19:43. | :19:46.
dozens of helpers to make sure it does not happen again. It is meant | :19:47. | :19:52.
to be relaxing. Your two weeks in the sauna or your city break. But it | :19:53. | :19:55.
all comes unstuck when you have to wait five hours for them to shift | :19:56. | :20:00.
luggage from the plane to the baggage belt. That was the nightmare | :20:01. | :20:04.
for these passengers in Gatwick last weekend. It happened last month as | :20:05. | :20:07.
well. Some fear it will happen again. The airport is about to have | :20:08. | :20:12.
one of its busiest weekends of the year. All passengers care about is | :20:13. | :20:16.
what has been done to make sure this does not happen again. 4/90 5% of | :20:17. | :20:23.
the passengers, we have delivered their bags within 45 minutes. We | :20:24. | :20:27.
expected to be the same this weekend. If it goes off track we | :20:28. | :20:36.
will step in and sure the operation. Gatwick's image has taken a dive. | :20:37. | :20:40.
The airport insists it is not their fault. The problems were down to | :20:41. | :20:46.
Swissport, one of the world's biggest baggage handling firms. It | :20:47. | :20:50.
admits it could not cope last week. It calls it a one-off and says it is | :20:51. | :20:56.
taking on more staff. It is too late for Richard Sargent, a sports man | :20:57. | :21:00.
who was stranded for five hours on Sunday because there was nowhere to | :21:01. | :21:04.
get -- no way to get his wheelchair from the airport. The biggest thing | :21:05. | :21:09.
was the lack of freedom. I was bursting for the toilet after a five | :21:10. | :21:14.
flight. I did not have that freedom to do what a normal human being | :21:15. | :21:17.
would be able to do in that situation, which is get some space. | :21:18. | :21:24.
Holiday airline Monarch recently ended its contract with Swissport. | :21:25. | :21:30.
It is one of the busiest times of the year for this airport. Airlines | :21:31. | :21:32.
promised no more baggage nightmares. Westcott, is at Gatwick now. | :21:33. | :21:38.
Profits at Lloyds Banking Group have fallen by more than 50% in the first | :21:39. | :21:42.
six months of the year, compared with the same period in 2013.The | :21:43. | :21:46.
group says it made a profit of ?863 million between January and June. | :21:47. | :21:50.
The fall is being put down to continued PPI compensation | :21:51. | :21:53.
claims and fines for manipulating the interbank lending rate. | :21:54. | :21:58.
The World Health Organisation has announced a ?60 million appeal to | :21:59. | :22:02.
combat the unprecendented outbreak of Ebola in West Africa. | :22:03. | :22:09.
729 people have died since February. Liberia has closed all | :22:10. | :22:11.
of its schools and announced that infected areas will be quarantined. | :22:12. | :22:17.
Sierra Leone has declared a state of emergency. | :22:18. | :22:20.
Around 50 firefighters are tackling a blaze at the Ferrybridge | :22:21. | :22:26.
power station in West Yorkshire. Traffic on the nearby M62 was | :22:27. | :22:30.
brought to a standstill earlier in the afternoon, as smoke drifted | :22:31. | :22:34.
across the carriageway. The coal fired power station is | :22:35. | :22:37.
currently on a summer shutdown, so there has been no loss | :22:38. | :22:40.
of power as a result of the fire. England cricket captain | :22:41. | :22:43.
Alastair Cook says his team played almost the perfect game, after | :22:44. | :22:48.
beating India in the Third Test. England won by 266 runs at | :22:49. | :22:52.
Southampton to level the series at 1-1, with two Tests left to play. | :22:53. | :22:55.
Joe Wilson is at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. | :22:56. | :23:03.
Remember, English cricket is in the middle of perhaps its biggest | :23:04. | :23:08.
rebuilding operation ever. Six of the 11 players here, for them it was | :23:09. | :23:14.
their first test victory ever. About a week ago a lot of the people | :23:15. | :23:17.
thought the skipper should maybe stand down for his own good. I | :23:18. | :23:22.
wonder if this evening Captain Cook is celebrating somewhere on the | :23:23. | :23:27.
south coast? A car ferry from Southampton to the Isle of Wight, | :23:28. | :23:32.
one an hour. A Test match victory for an England cricket team, one a | :23:33. | :23:39.
year. It has been enough to test anyone's patients. On Thursday | :23:40. | :23:43.
morning the wind was coming. Ninth ball of the day, Sharma was out. | :23:44. | :23:50.
Things were moving. It is an out-of-town ground, not the easiest | :23:51. | :23:57.
to reach. India were unravelling. That was MS Dhoni gone. And | :23:58. | :24:00.
Rutherford Jimmy Anderson. Step forward Mo Moeen Ali. Ravi Didier -- | :24:01. | :24:08.
Ravi Jadeja was flummoxed. Kumar could not resist. Eight down. Moilne | :24:09. | :24:12.
Ali was picked mainly for his batting. He took his fifth wicket of | :24:13. | :24:17.
the innings. He had been told by world cricket not to wear wristbands | :24:18. | :24:23.
in support of Gaza. Wrist there, ball in the air. His success was | :24:24. | :24:28.
indisputable. His final act was to win the match for his country, for | :24:29. | :24:32.
his captain. Many would like to see Alistair Cook left alone. All the | :24:33. | :24:37.
criticism Alistair Cook got last week, some of it was harsh. Some of | :24:38. | :24:42.
it was scary at one point. Hopefully you will get the same level this | :24:43. | :24:46.
week but in positive terms. James Anderson, mathematical mother faces | :24:47. | :24:51.
a disciplinary hearing tomorrow over an alleged altercation with Jadeja. | :24:52. | :24:56.
India insist he should be banned. Enjoy the friendly handshakes while | :24:57. | :24:57.
they last. in Southampton. | :24:58. | :25:03.
Australia has come first in the medal table at every | :25:04. | :25:05.
Commonwealth Games since 1990. But now, with just three more days | :25:06. | :25:08.
to go, England are in the lead and on course to bring home | :25:09. | :25:14.
their biggest medal haul since the Edinburgh Games in 1986. | :25:15. | :25:19.
Today England picked up another three gold medals. | :25:20. | :25:20.
From Glasgow, Natalie Pirks reports. As she set off from Glasgow Green, | :25:21. | :25:27.
Emma Pooley knew this would be her last major time trial before | :25:28. | :25:31.
retirement. There was to be no golden goodbye. Beaten into second | :25:32. | :25:34.
place by Linda Villumsen of New Zealand. Alex Dowsett put his anger | :25:35. | :25:39.
at being overlooked for the Tour de France to good use in the men's | :25:40. | :25:44.
race, to take the gold. Geraint Thomas finished with bronze. From | :25:45. | :25:53.
gold on the road to gold on the floor. Gymnastics has been a major | :25:54. | :25:56.
hit at these games thanks in no small part to the success of the | :25:57. | :25:59.
home nations. Today was no different. That was star Max | :26:00. | :26:05.
Whitlock picking up his third goal for England, this time on the floor. | :26:06. | :26:10.
It was gold number 34 Claudia Fragapane. The 16-year-old is just | :26:11. | :26:16.
447 but her performance on the was towering. The pommel horse was | :26:17. | :26:22.
always the most anticipated. Lewis Smith was out to prove he still has | :26:23. | :26:26.
it. He enjoyed his bronze winning performance. It was Daniel Keatings | :26:27. | :26:32.
of Scotland, the European champion, whose near-perfect moves mesmerised | :26:33. | :26:36.
the crowd and captured the marks for gold. In the last few minutes Becky | :26:37. | :26:42.
Downie's performance on the bars meaning and have just won their 42nd | :26:43. | :26:44.
gold medal of the games. From Glasgow, Natalie Pirks reports. | :26:45. | :26:49.
Time for a look at the weather with John Hammond. | :26:50. | :26:52.
A quick look back at July. It was particularly warm and sunny. Not | :26:53. | :27:01.
quite as warm as last July. It has been the eighth warmest month in | :27:02. | :27:09.
succession. A remarkable run of warm months. It may not have felt like it | :27:10. | :27:12.
in Northern Ireland if you are cowering under the storms. Later | :27:13. | :27:17.
this afternoon a packet of heavy downpours through the Midlands. | :27:18. | :27:21.
Heading eastwards as well. Some showers across Scotland. The trend | :27:22. | :27:24.
will be for those showers to fade away. Some will continue, | :27:25. | :27:30.
particularly later. A mild night out West. Through tomorrow, if anything | :27:31. | :27:36.
things will start to go downhill, particularly for the West. The | :27:37. | :27:41.
showers lumped together into more prolonged rain. There will be some | :27:42. | :27:50.
brightness. Also some sharp showers of the South East. Sunshine and | :27:51. | :27:53.
showers for parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland. As we going to | :27:54. | :27:59.
tomorrow evening and night, we will see more prolonged and heavy rain | :28:00. | :28:05.
pushing across Wales, western and northern England. On Saturday, bit | :28:06. | :28:09.
of uncertainty. The potential for storms from France into the | :28:10. | :28:14.
south-east. How far West this range extends into Northern Ireland. | :28:15. | :28:19.
Warnings have been issued. Destructive rainfall is possible. In | :28:20. | :28:24.
the sunshine in the south potentially quite warm. Rain heading | :28:25. | :28:26.
north this weekend. Sunshine will follow. It will start to turn very | :28:27. | :28:32.
windy on Sunday, particularly in northern parts of the UK. Not great | :28:33. | :28:34.
news for the closing ceremony. at the weather with John Hammond. | :28:35. | :28:38.
That's all from | :28:39. | :28:39. |
