following a breakthrough in relations. -- in Iran.

:00:00.:00:00.

A police officer is among six people arrested as part of an investigation

:00:00.:00:22.

A court is told that a CCTV operator spied on a woman in her home.

:00:23.:00:39.

Is now the best time to book your holiday?

:00:40.:00:47.

And an offshore wind farm is reduced in size after concerns from the

:00:48.:00:56.

fishing industry. And this is the weather for a

:00:57.:01:03.

kickabout in the park. Join me later for the complete forecast.

:01:04.:01:10.

A police officer is among six people arrested by detectives who are

:01:11.:01:13.

investigating the awarding of vehicle contracts in the PSNI.

:01:14.:01:15.

The arrests were made in counties Antrim,

:01:16.:01:18.

With more details here's our Home Affairs correspondent

:01:19.:01:21.

The PSNI operates the largest fleet of vehicles in Northern Ireland. Six

:01:22.:01:37.

men are being questioned. Four men were arrested in Northern Ireland

:01:38.:01:43.

and two in England. All are being questioned at Antrim police station.

:01:44.:01:51.

They have been arrested on suspicion of a range of offences including

:01:52.:02:01.

bribery, misconduct. It is not clear whether the offences are in relation

:02:02.:02:06.

of the purchasing of vehicles, the servicing of the vehicles, or both.

:02:07.:02:14.

It is understood that computers have been removed from the homes of those

:02:15.:02:21.

accused. The police now said it expects its officers and staff to

:02:22.:02:26.

behave professionally and with integrity at all times.

:02:27.:02:32.

A woman in her mid 20s has told Belfast crown court that she's still

:02:33.:02:35.

receiving counselling two years after a civilian CCTV operator

:02:36.:02:37.

allegedly trained a camera into her flat in North Belfast.

:02:38.:02:40.

Fifty year old Ciaran McCreavie from Collinwood Gardens

:02:41.:02:42.

in Newtownabbey denies misconduct in a public office, voyeurism and

:02:43.:02:45.

The defendant was one of three civilian CCTV operators when the

:02:46.:03:06.

alleged offences were committed. They worked in a CCTV suite similar

:03:07.:03:17.

to this one. The accused denies directing a camera and zooming into

:03:18.:03:22.

the living room of a flat for his justification.

:03:23.:03:33.

The prosecution said that in November the defendant sought the

:03:34.:03:42.

woman in a state of undress. He wilfully abused his position by

:03:43.:03:51.

watching their woman. Giving evidence CCTV operator said

:03:52.:03:59.

he had checked various cameras, and he sought an image on one of the

:04:00.:04:10.

camera as with a person in underwear. He said, he had not seen

:04:11.:04:19.

anything so intrusive. He claims that the defendant smiled and walked

:04:20.:04:28.

off. The woman told the court that since being told about the alleged

:04:29.:04:31.

offences she had lived behind closed curtains.

:04:32.:04:38.

A pipe bomb has partially exploded outside a house in Holywood

:04:39.:04:42.

Police were called after a woman reported hearing a loud bang

:04:43.:04:53.

outside her home shortly after midnight last night.

:04:54.:04:55.

The woman and her partner were in the house at the time

:04:56.:04:58.

Attacks by teenagers on horses are threatening to disrupt

:04:59.:05:04.

riding lessons for children with learning difficulties.

:05:05.:05:06.

The animals are at the Fort Centre Riding school in Maghera.

:05:07.:05:08.

This is one of the fields that the horses grazing. Many of the people

:05:09.:05:25.

who come for horse riding lessons have learning disabilities. The

:05:26.:05:37.

horses have been attacked. They have been chasing them around the fields.

:05:38.:05:49.

It is an settling them. No injuries as of yet. But there is potential

:05:50.:05:56.

for that to happen. Local youths have been blamed for annoying the

:05:57.:06:04.

horses. The people that come to this school, young people should think

:06:05.:06:15.

seriously about what they are doing. Volunteers have said lessons may be

:06:16.:06:25.

cancelled if the attacks continue. If they become any here and give us

:06:26.:06:31.

some help, and we could show them what we do, instead of what they are

:06:32.:06:40.

doing. The police say they have spoken to a number of 15-year-olds

:06:41.:06:46.

about their behaviour. Staff at the centre did not want to make a formal

:06:47.:06:48.

complaint. easyJet has apologised to passengers

:06:49.:06:53.

who suffered a delay of more than 12 hours yesterday

:06:54.:06:55.

on the London Gatwick to They eventually landed this morning,

:06:56.:06:58.

having spent part of the night The plane couldn't land at Belfast

:06:59.:07:01.

because of a combination of maintenance work

:07:02.:07:07.

on the runway and foggy conditions. The Premiership footballer Joey

:07:08.:07:09.

Barton was among the passengers. They described the journey

:07:10.:07:14.

as a shambles. This was the first time I have done

:07:15.:07:26.

it, and probably the last time I will be doing it. I have been flying

:07:27.:07:31.

for 25 years. This is the worst ever experience.

:07:32.:07:39.

Many people will be heading off on holiday over the next few months.

:07:40.:07:42.

For those looking to change money to euros or dollars

:07:43.:07:45.

today's currency markets will have brought welcome news.

:07:46.:07:46.

A stronger sterling means you get more for your pound.

:07:47.:07:49.

That's not necessarily good for local businesses.

:07:50.:07:50.

More on that in a moment, but as Julie McCullough reports it's come

:07:51.:07:54.

Booking a holiday might be the furthest thing from your mind, but

:07:55.:08:05.

with currency rates in our favour has there been a better time to

:08:06.:08:12.

think about getting away? People flying to the United States are

:08:13.:08:15.

getting the best rates that they have seen in five years. If you look

:08:16.:08:25.

at eurozone. We are getting a better rate this year. The rates that is

:08:26.:08:42.

usually quoted in the financial news are not necessarily the rates that

:08:43.:08:54.

you will get. Bear that in mind when you are figuring out how much

:08:55.:08:59.

spending money you will need. Different providers have different

:09:00.:09:02.

rates. It is up to you to shop around.

:09:03.:09:11.

You wrote destinations have become strong. The destination makes a lot

:09:12.:09:18.

of difference because of the departure point. There is a

:09:19.:09:32.

favourable rate for the euro. Some believe the strongly against the

:09:33.:09:37.

euro will be around for a while and that the pound may be strong against

:09:38.:09:40.

the dollar for the future. Only time will tell.

:09:41.:09:51.

Let's see how the exchange rates are affecting business.

:09:52.:09:53.

Northern Ireland's big trading partner is the Republic in the Euro

:09:54.:09:57.

zone - so for trade what does that mean if we're getting more euros

:09:58.:10:00.

The dollar rate - it's been a while since it lifted

:10:01.:10:03.

If you have your rules and you want to do business year Your Money does

:10:04.:10:11.

not go as far. # -- if you have euros. If the euro

:10:12.:10:21.

is weak it no longer makes sense to make the trip. One of the problems

:10:22.:10:29.

for the tourism industry is it cannot attract people from the

:10:30.:10:37.

Republic. If this is now a more. I there are many businesses that

:10:38.:10:43.

should keep an eye on the rate? Aside from the Republic are biggest

:10:44.:10:53.

destination for exports is the US. You do not want the pound to be too

:10:54.:10:56.

strong against the dollar for too long. One good thing about a week

:10:57.:11:04.

dollar is that oil is paid for in dollars. That can keep a lid on fuel

:11:05.:11:22.

prices. As The Sun shines on the warmest day

:11:23.:11:27.

of the year we will be looking at the damaging effects it can have on

:11:28.:11:28.

your skin. Changes have been made to a plan

:11:29.:11:34.

for Northern Ireland's first major The scale of the ?1 billion project

:11:35.:11:37.

has been reduced in response to concerns from the

:11:38.:11:41.

fishing and shipping industries. Here's our business

:11:42.:11:43.

correspondent Julian O'Neill. This fishing fleet has been made

:11:44.:11:57.

nervous by the prospect of a wind farm five miles out to sea. Huge

:11:58.:12:02.

wind turbines like these can be a navigational hazard. The industry

:12:03.:12:10.

argues it can displace fish stocks. The energy Consortium has been

:12:11.:12:15.

assessing this area for two years. It is outlined in red. It has now

:12:16.:12:19.

been narrowed down further. The turbines will be confined to the

:12:20.:12:27.

zone marked in Green. These will be bigger turbines. Bigger turbines

:12:28.:12:34.

have two be spaced further apart. It is a step in the right direction.

:12:35.:12:43.

The consortium says it also wants to minimise disruption to shipping

:12:44.:12:48.

lanes. The idea behind the project is to reduce our dependency on

:12:49.:12:55.

outmoded fuel and make us less prone to price fluctuations. Reducing the

:12:56.:13:01.

size of this wind farm will reduce its clout.

:13:02.:13:07.

Initially the giant turbines were going to produce 20% of the power in

:13:08.:13:11.

Northern Ireland. That has now been reduced to 10%.

:13:12.:13:17.

A number of issues were taken into account, including those from the

:13:18.:13:23.

fishing industry. What we are aiming to do now is carry on the

:13:24.:13:26.

investigation so that we can design a project that meets the needs of

:13:27.:13:31.

the project and the fishing industry.

:13:32.:13:35.

Getting this project operational is still many years away. Planning and

:13:36.:13:40.

other approvals are yet to be granted. The target date is

:13:41.:13:42.

Twenty20. Some police officers in the

:13:43.:13:56.

North West today started wearing video cameras to record what they

:13:57.:13:59.

see on their day to day patrols. The police believe the footage could

:14:00.:14:02.

help witnesses and victims of crime. A routine patrol getting ready. This

:14:03.:14:13.

small camera, about the size of a standard smartphone, will be used in

:14:14.:14:17.

the fight against crime. Some officers today you started using it

:14:18.:14:23.

for the first time. After a six months trial, it value will then be

:14:24.:14:28.

assessed by the College of policing and Cambridge University. We welcome

:14:29.:14:33.

it as an opportunity to provide a better service to the public, to

:14:34.:14:37.

support victims and witnesses, by being in a position to provide

:14:38.:14:42.

evidence to the courts and speed up the justice process. The police say

:14:43.:14:46.

the cameras will also gather a wide range of material from disputes

:14:47.:14:49.

where there is one person's word against another. Or if there is an

:14:50.:14:53.

investigation into police behaviour. There was a mixed response from the

:14:54.:15:00.

public. If they tell people what they are doing, it will make a

:15:01.:15:09.

difference, I think. On the one hand, it will be a very useful tool

:15:10.:15:17.

for would-be crimes being prevented. But on the other hand, it is an

:15:18.:15:22.

invasion of privacy. Women's aid, which has been campaigning for such

:15:23.:15:25.

cameras, supported the move, and said anything which improves the

:15:26.:15:29.

collection and quality of evidence for the prosecution of domestic

:15:30.:15:32.

violence was to be welcomed. The police say the public should be

:15:33.:15:37.

reassured because on each and every occasion they tend to use the camera

:15:38.:15:42.

they will inform people beforehand. The video footage captured for only

:15:43.:15:46.

be held for 30 days, unless the intention is to use it in legal

:15:47.:15:48.

proceedings. Many schools have closed

in recent years because they have But now an over-subscribed girls?

grammar school The Western Education and

:15:55.:15:58.

Library Board wants to amalgamate It's a plan that is dividing

:15:59.:16:02.

the local community. Here's our South West

:16:03.:16:07.

reporter Julian Fowler. When these schools closed locally, a

:16:08.:16:23.

new one was promised. Ten years on, this is the sight of that new

:16:24.:16:27.

school. While there is agreement that a new build for this college is

:16:28.:16:32.

needed, there is no agreement on how to ensure it will be sustainable.

:16:33.:16:37.

The Western education and library board's plan is to amalgamate the

:16:38.:16:41.

collegiate and Portora, and to build a new grammar school. But that has

:16:42.:16:45.

provoked strong opposition. A petition against the plan was

:16:46.:16:49.

delivered to Stormont. Eileen Foster is a former collegiate people. What

:16:50.:16:55.

is happening is they are tying in the new build for Devenish college

:16:56.:17:00.

for the closure of collegiate and Portora, and that is unacceptable.

:17:01.:17:06.

The collegiate said it achieves excellent results and is

:17:07.:17:10.

oversubscribed. Its principal says there are alternatives to pleasure.

:17:11.:17:14.

We do not want of the entry of other schools diminish. We want to see

:17:15.:17:17.

them flourish. We want to see Portora flourish, and also Devenish

:17:18.:17:26.

college gets its site. We believe one model should be a model of three

:17:27.:17:32.

schools. Those who support the amalgamation is offers increased

:17:33.:17:38.

opportunities for all pupils. It is about educating the best young

:17:39.:17:41.

people in Enniskillen together, not separating them, but educating them

:17:42.:17:47.

together so they grow and bounce off each other. Fermanagh has not seen

:17:48.:17:53.

that yet. Fermanagh has not yet seen the potential of its young people.

:17:54.:17:57.

The present situation with one school pitched against another is

:17:58.:18:00.

the result of years of failing to find a local solution. There is now

:18:01.:18:05.

another public consultation. When it ends next month, the education

:18:06.:18:08.

minister will then make a final decision.

:18:09.:18:13.

The Blackford Dolphin oil rig which has become part of the East Belfast

:18:14.:18:16.

skyline in the past six months has left the Harland and Wolff shipyard.

:18:17.:18:20.

The rig initially came in for a 60 day refit last November

:18:21.:18:22.

but it was found to need much more extensive repair work.

:18:23.:18:25.

About 600 workers have been employed on the project -

:18:26.:18:27.

with around two thirds brought in from outside Northern Ireland due

:18:28.:18:30.

This afternoon it began its slow journey to the North Sea

:18:31.:18:34.

where owners Dolphin Drilling will put it back into service.

:18:35.:18:46.

You are watching BBC Newsline. Still to come: It has been far too nice to

:18:47.:18:53.

be cooped up in the office all day. Is this lovely weather going to

:18:54.:18:56.

continue? I will have the forecast just before 7pm.

:18:57.:18:59.

Next to the story of an Armagh who escaped, not one

:19:00.:19:02.

Last week on the programme we marked the anniversary of Ireland's worst

:19:03.:19:08.

Joe Foster was on that train but, as Gordon Adair reports,

:19:09.:19:14.

he was to survive many treacherous journeys in his life.

:19:15.:19:23.

This is Joe Foster and, for our purposes, his story begins here on

:19:24.:19:34.

12th of June 1889. He was 12 years old, and he and his brother had gone

:19:35.:19:38.

on the excursion that day. His friend asked him to change seats, he

:19:39.:19:43.

agreed, and sadly his friend did not survive the disaster. 23 years

:19:44.:19:49.

later, Joe decided to go to America. A decision which, once again,

:19:50.:19:52.

brought him face-to-face with disaster. He had heard about this

:19:53.:19:58.

new shipbuilding, the Titanic, and he thought he would go to America on

:19:59.:20:02.

the Titanic. Well, his mother was ill, and Joe's plans changed, so he

:20:03.:20:09.

did not go on the Titanic. His incredible story, however, does not

:20:10.:20:15.

end there. He was in the 36th Ulster division fighting at the Battle of

:20:16.:20:18.

the song, and he was one of the few from Armagh that actually survived

:20:19.:20:22.

and came back to Armagh. Joe talked little about all that had happened.

:20:23.:20:28.

As children, my mother used to ask him questions about various things.

:20:29.:20:32.

He talks about the railway disaster, but he never talked about his

:20:33.:20:36.

experiences in France. He found it too painful. He died at 55, leaving

:20:37.:20:43.

six children and a remarkable story of destiny and determination.

:20:44.:20:48.

Many of golf?s big names have made the trip

:20:49.:20:51.

from North Carolina to County Cork - those chasing the US Open last week

:20:52.:20:55.

are now focusing on the Irish Open, which tees off on Thursday.

:20:56.:20:58.

From Fota Island, Stephen Watson reports.

:20:59.:21:07.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to flock to Fota Island

:21:08.:21:13.

this week. These, of course, are exciting times for Irish golf. This

:21:14.:21:17.

tournament will be played in Northern Ireland in 2015 before the

:21:18.:21:24.

open is staged in 2019. Ireland's most successful golfer is Patrick

:21:25.:21:30.

Harrington. He is thrilled about the open return. It is unbelievable, the

:21:31.:21:37.

open coming to Ireland. It was such a long shot. After the Irish open

:21:38.:21:43.

when two Portrush and they saw the success, it did move on the chances

:21:44.:21:46.

of the Open Championship coming to Ireland. I'm sure when it does come,

:21:47.:21:50.

it will be one of the greatest ones ever. One of the greatest open

:21:51.:21:57.

champions ever is Seve Ballesteros, who won the cup three times. This

:21:58.:22:01.

week, his son is playing at Royal Portrush in the British amateur

:22:02.:22:10.

championship. He did not go very straight with the driver, but I am

:22:11.:22:15.

sure I will manage here, it is really nice to be here. As well as

:22:16.:22:19.

the amateur and professional tournaments being played north and

:22:20.:22:25.

south, it is also a big week for one of Northern Ireland's top golfers in

:22:26.:22:30.

America. Stephanie Meadow plays in the US open. Originally from

:22:31.:22:33.

Belfast, Stephanie moved to the States 12 years ago with her family

:22:34.:22:40.

to further her golfing education. After a glittering amateur career,

:22:41.:22:42.

she is making her professional debut. I have waited a long time. I

:22:43.:22:48.

have got my degree, and now is the time to turn professional. I am just

:22:49.:22:55.

hoping I can draw from this experience. I am in the professional

:22:56.:23:00.

world and I must prove myself. I am excited. Can you be Northern

:23:01.:23:07.

Ireland's next major champion? Yes, absolutely, I hope so. If you don't

:23:08.:23:11.

believe in yourself, you will never do it. I believe that I can and I

:23:12.:23:15.

will try my best. Stephanie has another reason to smile. Her home

:23:16.:23:18.

club is Royal Portrush. It's officially been

:23:19.:23:22.

the warmest day of the year so far. Anyone who could has tried

:23:23.:23:25.

to get outdoors today But, in doing so,

:23:26.:23:27.

it's easy to forget the damage Our weather presenter Barra

:23:28.:23:31.

Best can tell us more. It is not often that we get to enjoy

:23:32.:23:46.

warm days with clear blue skies. So, it is understandable that most of us

:23:47.:23:49.

take advantage while we can. But, while everything looks nice and

:23:50.:23:54.

summary, there are hidden dangers. One of which is UV damage from the

:23:55.:23:59.

sun. So, along with cancer focus Northern Ireland, we got a few

:24:00.:24:02.

volunteers to come along to Belfast City Hall to have their skin

:24:03.:24:06.

checked. Within a few minutes, they found out how much they have been

:24:07.:24:11.

affected. The scammer lets you see beneath the surface layer of the

:24:12.:24:16.

skin. You can see some signs of sun damage. Index you see how hard your

:24:17.:24:22.

skin has to work to protect yourself from the sun. I saw white dots and

:24:23.:24:30.

freckles. Are you covered up today? Yes, I am. I have got make-up on

:24:31.:24:36.

with SPF, so I am covered up. A little bit shocked. The sun tends to

:24:37.:24:43.

come very suddenly here. We don't always protect ourselves, especially

:24:44.:24:48.

the young and elderly. UV rays help us produce vitamins E, but too much

:24:49.:24:53.

does damage our skins. The world health organisation recommends the

:24:54.:24:56.

use a factor 15 sunscreen and above. It says that no sunscreen

:24:57.:25:03.

gives us 100% protection, which is why we should reapply throughout the

:25:04.:25:09.

day. Over a period of time, the damage can accumulate and you get

:25:10.:25:13.

premature ageing of the skin, and long-term it could increase the risk

:25:14.:25:17.

of skin cancer. It does not have to be hot for the UV index to be high

:25:18.:25:22.

at this time of year, so the advice is to enjoy the sun with care.

:25:23.:25:30.

Let's get the facts and figures about today's sunshine with Jeff.

:25:31.:25:38.

A top ten mature of 25 degrees in the manner, and we are set for

:25:39.:25:43.

something similar over the next few days. It is a lovely, warm evening,

:25:44.:25:50.

and as we go through this evening we will have temperatures rising to a

:25:51.:26:06.

warm temperature. We have some clout coming in overnight tonight, so it

:26:07.:26:10.

will be a bit of a misty start to the day. Overnight lows of 11 or 12

:26:11.:26:15.

degrees. This was a scene on the coast this morning, and it could be

:26:16.:26:19.

the same tomorrow morning as the mist and sea fog start the morning.

:26:20.:26:29.

Inland, we will get some really nice spells of bright sunshine. Lovely as

:26:30.:26:34.

we go through the day. Because the day has started warm, they just go

:26:35.:26:40.

up through the day. Up to 23 degrees quite possible, maybe even warmer.

:26:41.:26:44.

But it could be cooler than that along the coast with those sea

:26:45.:26:48.

breezes through the afternoon. Generally, it will be a very nice

:26:49.:26:52.

picture as they go through the day on Wednesday. A little bit of a

:26:53.:26:58.

change coming in as we get to Thursday as the front moves

:26:59.:27:02.

through. Things could be a little cloudy from Thursday onwards. High

:27:03.:27:08.

pressure is still in charge, keeping us nicely protected from both

:27:09.:27:12.

Atlantic weather systems, but on Thursday we get this weather front

:27:13.:27:15.

working its way through, said the conditions are a bit cloudier with

:27:16.:27:19.

some light rain, but temperatures are still quite decent for the time

:27:20.:27:25.

of year. 15, 16, maybe 17 degrees, which is what we would expect for

:27:26.:27:28.

this time of year. More cloud on Friday, but temperatures remaining

:27:29.:27:30.

decent. You can also keep in contact with
