this Friday evening. Kincora - Dana's brother, John Brown, takes to | :00:16. | :00:20.
the witness stand in court to deny charges of indecent assault against | :00:21. | :00:25.
two girls Fears that waste from this dump could contaminate a river in | :00:26. | :00:28.
the north-west. A famous old dance hall - the Rainbow Ballroom of | :00:29. | :00:33.
Romance - receives a new lease of life. Some showers to come over the | :00:34. | :00:49.
Rory McIlroy holds his nerve and extend his lead. Joining for the | :00:50. | :00:56.
latest. There will be some showers over the weekend which may be on the | :00:57. | :01:00.
heavy side. It's not a wash-out with many places staying dry. More | :01:01. | :01:02.
details later. concerning the Kincora Boys? home in | :01:03. | :01:16.
East Belfast. That's the view of the retired judge Sir Anthony Hart who | :01:17. | :01:19.
is chairing the inquiry currently examining abuse in children's homes | :01:20. | :01:22.
and other institutions here. The First Minister has added his voice | :01:23. | :01:24.
to the chorus of political voices calling for the London inquiry to | :01:25. | :01:27.
examine the Kincora scandal. But at the same time Peter Robinson has | :01:28. | :01:31.
warned that the very existence of the local inquiry could be | :01:32. | :01:34.
threatened if Stormont minister don't sort out their differences | :01:35. | :01:38.
over finance. Our political editor Sir Anthony makes it clear that he | :01:39. | :01:53.
is calling for the London enquiry to cover Kincora. What is? | :01:54. | :02:01.
The situation is that Kincora, three members of staff were convicted for | :02:02. | :02:04.
their part in abusing boys in the home during the 1970s. Sir Anthony | :02:05. | :02:10.
Hart who is heading up the enquiry into the historical and abuse here, | :02:11. | :02:15.
says that his enquiry can examine their complaints, can see if others | :02:16. | :02:18.
were involved, if there was any kind of cysts -- systemic failure in the | :02:19. | :02:23.
home that has not been revealed yet. There have been allegations that the | :02:24. | :02:27.
intelligence services knew what was going on and turned a blind eye, | :02:28. | :02:31.
maybe because they were using Kincora to gather information. In | :02:32. | :02:35.
relation to that, he acknowledges that he does not have the power to | :02:36. | :02:39.
compel the Ministry of Defence or MI5 to give evidence. He says there | :02:40. | :02:43.
may be benefits there for a UK enquiry which would have those kinds | :02:44. | :02:48.
of powers of compulsion. He has also said that, so far, his | :02:49. | :03:00.
enquiry has... Some victims of abuse have come on until their stories. He | :03:01. | :03:04.
said the enquiry itself will not be able to get onto Kincora until late | :03:05. | :03:08.
2015 at the earliest. He does say that five residents of the home have | :03:09. | :03:12.
already make statements. None of them mentioned so-called | :03:13. | :03:16.
Establishment figures as being people who they have carried out -- | :03:17. | :03:20.
people who have carried out or been party to abuse in the home. | :03:21. | :03:25.
What has Peter Robinson said about the continued existence of Kincora | :03:26. | :03:30.
being under threat? Peter Robinson has joined other | :03:31. | :03:33.
politicians across the border saying that the London enquiry should get | :03:34. | :03:37.
involved. He has given a warning relation to the use enquiry that Sir | :03:38. | :03:45.
Anthony hands up. There is a -- there is something going on cost | :03:46. | :03:54.
your monitoring. A -- Peter Robinson told my colleague Mark Simpson | :03:55. | :03:58.
earlier today that the abuse enquiry could be under threat. | :03:59. | :04:03.
It would be an outrage if people who had waited for decades upon decades | :04:04. | :04:09.
to have some opportunity to have some justice done for the crimes | :04:10. | :04:13.
that were committed against them, is that had to be suspended because | :04:14. | :04:16.
politicians are not prepared to take difficult decisions about finances. | :04:17. | :04:21.
Other parties have disagreed with this approach. Sinn Fein's daddy | :04:22. | :04:28.
Mackay has accused the DUP of macho posturing. They believe that the | :04:29. | :04:32.
funding for the enquiry can go ahead and they don't have to agree to well | :04:33. | :04:36.
for that welfare reform at this stage. This has been described as | :04:37. | :04:45.
low politics to involve the child abuse enquiry, that it should be | :04:46. | :04:48.
safeguarded in terms of its funding. A brother of Eurovision winner Dana | :04:49. | :04:57.
has told a court in England that he was never alone with either of the | :04:58. | :05:01.
two girls he's accused of indecently assaulting. John Brown is accused of | :05:02. | :05:04.
carrying out the abuse in the 1970's. Our reporter Andy West has | :05:05. | :05:07.
sent this report from Harrow. Today was 60 old John Brown's first | :05:08. | :05:12.
chance to answer allegations that he indecently insulted two girls during | :05:13. | :05:18.
the 1970s. One was aged under 16 at the time of the alleged attacks and | :05:19. | :05:25.
the other, aged under 13, -- John Brown denies all charges and told | :05:26. | :05:28.
the jury that he had never been alone with either of the two alleged | :05:29. | :05:32.
victims and never assaulted them. He described the last three years since | :05:33. | :05:36.
the allegations came to light as hell. Addressing the charges | :05:37. | :05:40.
relating to the younger of the two girls, he said that he did not do | :05:41. | :05:44.
it. It's a lie, I have two daughters and a son and I could not even | :05:45. | :05:47.
contemplate doing something like that. I did not do it. Earlier in | :05:48. | :05:53.
the week, his sister, former Eurovision winner Dayna faced | :05:54. | :05:58.
allegations from the younger victim who claims that she had known about | :05:59. | :06:02.
that particular assault for 30 years and help to cover it up. John Brown | :06:03. | :06:11.
was a member of her campaign team. In a live TV debate at the time, | :06:12. | :06:14.
was a member of her campaign team. described the allegations against | :06:15. | :06:18.
her brother as malicious and false. Don Brown has now finished answering | :06:19. | :06:21.
the allegations against him. On Monday it will be his sister's turn | :06:22. | :06:25.
to give evidence. Monday it will be his sister's turn | :06:26. | :06:27.
The First Minister Peter Robinson has rejected Sinn Fein's call for a | :06:28. | :06:28.
resumption of all-party talks on parades, flags and the past. The | :06:29. | :06:31.
appeal for a return to negotiations came from Gerry Adams who said now | :06:32. | :06:34.
that the review into the On The Runs has been published, unionists should | :06:35. | :06:37.
get back round the talks table. Mark The question all politicians are now | :06:38. | :06:54.
trying to answer is what should happen next? Whatever the | :06:55. | :06:58.
controversy caused by the on-the-runs reports, it did not make | :06:59. | :07:02.
relations between Unionists and Sinn Fein any worse than they already | :07:03. | :07:06.
are. Even though it is the middle of July, Sinn Fein said it's time to | :07:07. | :07:10.
get back into the negotiating room to talk about flags, parades and the | :07:11. | :07:13.
past. One thing that everybody agrees is | :07:14. | :07:21.
that dialogue is the basis of every problem we have resolved. We need to | :07:22. | :07:28.
get back into talks. Peter Robinson does not see the | :07:29. | :07:31.
point of another round of all-party negotiations. | :07:32. | :07:35.
We have been talking since the middle of last year. I could say | :07:36. | :07:41.
perhaps for the last ten years. We have been talking about the issues | :07:42. | :07:45.
of parades, flags and the past. It's not a case of not having talks. We | :07:46. | :07:50.
have not reached agreement. I see no sign, in terms of the parades issue, | :07:51. | :07:55.
that would indicate that there is the necessary flexibility to agree. | :07:56. | :08:00.
The police revealed today that fresh information has emerged in a number | :08:01. | :08:03.
of cases connected to on-the-runs suspects. It is not clear which | :08:04. | :08:12.
ones. Yesterday's report by Lady Justice Hallett revealed that the | :08:13. | :08:15.
Good Friday Agreement early release scheme does not apply to offences | :08:16. | :08:21.
committed before 1973. A report also shed some light on how Tony Blair | :08:22. | :08:25.
was my government handled the issue of on-the-runs suspects in the late | :08:26. | :08:32.
1990s. It was a difficult time in the peace process. The report says | :08:33. | :08:36.
that the then Secretary of State Mo Mowlam had directly -- had erected | :08:37. | :08:40.
and Attorney General in one high-profile case. She was a suspect | :08:41. | :08:49.
in an attempted murder. According to yesterday's report, no Mowlam asked | :08:50. | :08:53.
the Attorney General to reconsider the case, taking into account | :08:54. | :08:57.
positive effects an undertaking not to prosecute would have on the PC go | :08:58. | :09:02.
stations. The report says that the Attorney General Lord Morris refused | :09:03. | :09:05.
to give an undertaking not to prosecute. Bit by bit, more and more | :09:06. | :09:11.
information is coming out about what was going on behind the scenes | :09:12. | :09:14.
during difficult moments in the peace process. The reality is that | :09:15. | :09:19.
the full story about what went on will probably be told. -- will | :09:20. | :09:24.
probably never be told. will probably be told. -- will | :09:25. | :09:27.
A 21 year old man has died in a crash in County Antrim. It happened | :09:28. | :09:30.
on the Doagh Road in Ballyclare in road. No other vehicle was involved. | :09:31. | :09:36.
Two other men in the car were taken And in County Armagh, an 84 year old | :09:37. | :09:40.
woman has died after being hit by a lorry in Keady this morning. A 31 | :09:41. | :09:44.
year old man has been arrested. One of almost 300 passengers killed | :09:45. | :09:52.
when the Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 came down in the Ukraine | :09:53. | :09:55.
yesterday was Irish. The Foreign Minister Charlie Flanagan announced | :09:56. | :09:57.
a short time ago that the woman was Irish-born born and had family both | :09:58. | :10:00.
in Ireland and Australia. Her name You're watching BBC Newsline - | :10:01. | :10:03.

McIlroy as his lead at the Open outskirts of Londonderry at the end | :10:13. | :10:17.
of last year - and it was one of the worst cases of illegal dumping in | :10:18. | :10:34.
European history. Now government experts say a swimming pool's worth | :10:35. | :10:36.
of polluted water could leak into the River Faughan if action's not | :10:37. | :10:40.
taken before winter. Our reporter Beautiful countryside surrounds this | :10:41. | :10:58.
wasteland at the former sand and gravel sites. Around 40 acres with | :10:59. | :11:03.
hundreds of thousands of tonnes mining stinking and festering, | :11:04. | :11:07.
hundreds of thousands of tonnes and below the surface. So far, 5,000 | :11:08. | :11:07.
tonnes of rubbish, two and a half tonnes of rubbish, two and a half | :11:08. | :11:12.
thousand tonnes of tyres and 1.4 million litres of polluted water | :11:13. | :11:18.
have been removed, but experts say that is just a drop in the ocean. | :11:19. | :11:27.
Ella M you can see here a huge pool of polluted water. | :11:28. | :11:32.
It consists of commercial waste, household waste and dead animals. | :11:33. | :11:36.
It may look like ordinary water but this is the problem that huge pools | :11:37. | :11:41.
of this harmful liquids are reappearing. The volume of this | :11:42. | :11:45.
alone is the size of Derry swimming baths. The question is whether it | :11:46. | :11:48.
could reach the River Faughan? It could kill the fish population and | :11:49. | :11:52.
polluted the drink water. As we get towards September, -- we | :11:53. | :12:05.
will do our utmost to contain the pollution as far as we can. It could | :12:06. | :12:11.
be very harmful in terms of ammonia pollutants. | :12:12. | :12:14.
Its closest point, the dump live just metres from the river. Teaming | :12:15. | :12:19.
with salmon, it is a haven for fisheries. There are growing | :12:20. | :12:22.
concerns that the water could be contaminated. | :12:23. | :12:26.
It is a major environmental disaster in the making. Mitigating that | :12:27. | :12:33.
disaster would cost a fortune. The money may not be there. We need to | :12:34. | :12:43.
sort this problem out once and for all. | :12:44. | :12:45.
There are calls for action to protect this waterway for future | :12:46. | :12:46.
generations. protect this waterway for future | :12:47. | :12:49.
A famous old dance hall in County Leitrim - the Rainbow Ballroom of | :12:50. | :12:51.
Romance - has received a new lease of life. Following a 500,000 euro | :12:52. | :12:54.
refurbishment - tourists are being invited to recall the innocent days | :12:55. | :12:57.
of the Showband era, with a waltz on the dance floor and a cup of tea in | :12:58. | :13:00.
the mineral bar. Our south west reporter Julian Fowler went to | :13:01. | :13:06.
Glenfarne on the road between Enniskillen and Sligo to discover | :13:07. | :13:08.
the ballroom's enduring appeal. Before discos and nightclubs, dance | :13:09. | :13:20.
halls were centre of the social scene in Ireland. The ballroom of | :13:21. | :13:25.
romance was built by John together and 80 years ago. Generations of | :13:26. | :13:30.
couples have watched and giant on its dance floors. | :13:31. | :13:39.
People came from all walks of life. People matched their future partners | :13:40. | :13:42.
here as well. It was absolutely brilliant. I think that's what | :13:43. | :13:50.
everyone came forward. A museum of memorabilia because the | :13:51. | :13:55.
great show band are all stop the melody aces, the Miami and the main | :13:56. | :14:00.
miners or played here. Now a new generation of country stars have | :14:01. | :14:03.
given the downfall a new lease of life. | :14:04. | :14:13.
Five years ago, people were going to discos. Now they're going to see | :14:14. | :14:19.
jive band. It's amazing. Nathan Carter presented his old song | :14:20. | :14:26.
-- presented a disc of his song to hang on the walls. | :14:27. | :14:30.
Is important that places like this are kept well and restored. They | :14:31. | :14:36.
will last forever. They connect people together. | :14:37. | :14:41.
Some things have changed. The mineral bar now serves alcohol | :14:42. | :14:45.
instead -- and instead of signs telling people not to take dreams | :14:46. | :14:49.
onto the dance floor, you were told not to dance in the bar. As part of | :14:50. | :14:55.
the ballroom experience, you can even buy a piece of the famous dance | :14:56. | :14:59.
floor. These tourists travelled from Kerry for the rainbow experience. | :15:00. | :15:05.
I thought it was fantastic. It brought me back to my youth. I | :15:06. | :15:09.
looked at all the pictures and it brought back memories. | :15:10. | :15:21.
Magic, magic. They've done a wonderful job. A venue for old | :15:22. | :15:25.
memories and somewhere that continues to offer a bit of romance. | :15:26. | :15:41.
Still to come, at the weekend to come for mixed martial arts. | :15:42. | :15:51.
Sport now and on Day Two of the Open Golf Championship at Hoylake. And | :15:52. | :15:54.
all eyes were on Rory McIlroy - would he suffer from second day | :15:55. | :15:57.
nerves again. Stephen Watson is at Royal Liverpool. | :15:58. | :16:03.
Second rounds have not been good for Rory McIlroy this season. Certainly | :16:04. | :16:13.
not today, as he has extended his advantage to four shots. Two golfers | :16:14. | :16:18.
from Northern Ireland have previously won the Open Championship | :16:19. | :16:22.
and Roy is doing his best to make it three. He is still out on the | :16:23. | :16:35.
course. Here is how the day unfolded. The overnight leader | :16:36. | :16:38.
warmed up alongside the last Hoylake open winner this afternoon. This | :16:39. | :16:43.
year, it's not Tiger Woods but Rory McIlroy who is treating thousands of | :16:44. | :16:48.
fans to a golfing exhibition. Though he did get off to a shady start, | :16:49. | :16:54.
dropping a shot at the first hole. He soon settled down. A birdie at | :16:55. | :17:05.
the fifth restored his lead. And then he simply picked up where he | :17:06. | :17:13.
left off yesterday. There were no signs of those negative Friday | :17:14. | :17:17.
feelings. As a birdie, at the next whole opened up a two shot | :17:18. | :17:26.
advantage. Nothing, it seems, was going to upstage or distracting | :17:27. | :17:41.
today. He wrote in yet another pact. He continued to produce the type of | :17:42. | :17:47.
special shots that have delivered him to major championships so far. A | :17:48. | :17:55.
nice surprise for him and he has just finished the 16th hole. He | :17:56. | :18:00.
still holds a lead of four shots. Darren Clarke is level par. He is | :18:01. | :18:06.
tied for 31st. Graeme McDowell still has four holes to play. Michael Hoey | :18:07. | :18:11.

expected in Clones for the meeting of Monaghan Donegal - Mark | :18:26. | :18:27.
It was memorable and powerful. Monaghan's manager says his side is | :18:28. | :18:45.
overly physical. We are fairly small team overall. We | :18:46. | :18:53.
bring a high-intensity, we bring our physical edge that way. It's a | :18:54. | :19:02.
matter of going out and trying to bring that intensity again. | :19:03. | :19:12.
You do get the sense that this bunch mites enjoy a kick around in their | :19:13. | :19:19.
backyard. The boys train hard. We'll just see | :19:20. | :19:25.
what we have to bring to the table on Sunday. | :19:26. | :19:33.
We can't really buy into the history. We have to focus on Sunday. | :19:34. | :19:40.
You have to take all the emotion out of it. We have to take each game on | :19:41. | :19:47.
its own merits. The game will be fiercely competitive. | :19:48. | :19:54.

games this year. Anything can happen on the day. I'm | :20:33. | :20:36.
putting myself in the best position to excel and jump my best. | :20:37. | :20:38.
Obviously, medals to excel and jump my best. | :20:39. | :20:43.
one. I am just going to do my best and that's all I can do. | :20:44. | :20:49.

At the end of the day, I feel like optimistic about his chances. | :20:54. | :21:01.
I'm capable of getting to that final. I just need to execute every | :21:02. | :21:11.
race as well as I can. In the sprints, Amy Foster has had a | :21:12. | :21:14.
good year, equalling Irish 100 metres record. Jason Smith will make | :21:15. | :21:21.

fans will head to Dublin to see some of the world's best fighters in | :22:14. | :22:16.
action. The UFC is holding a sold-out event at the O2. And | :22:17. | :22:19.
Ireland's Conor McGregor is headlining the event. Chris Buckler | :22:20. | :22:21.
has been to Dublin to meet him AND a County Tyrone teenager with dreams | :22:22. | :22:24.
Fighting has a proud tradition in Ireland. In this sports, competitors | :22:25. | :22:41.
trained not just to box but to Russell. They need a wide range of | :22:42. | :22:48.
skills to compete at the highest level. The ultimate fighting | :22:49. | :22:51.
championship is regarded as the premier league of the sport. -- also | :22:52. | :22:56.
to wrestle. It holds events all over the world with huge crowds. The | :22:57. | :23:04.
fights take place inside a cage. One of the rising stars of this man. | :23:05. | :23:14.
Conor McGregor is the main event of the fight night in Dublin on | :23:15. | :23:19.
Saturday. He believes that if he wins for the home crowd, he could be | :23:20. | :23:24.
given a chance to fight for the world featherweight title. | :23:25. | :23:33.
I nearly already feel that the title is one. | :23:34. | :23:44.
The rising popularity of this martial arts is inspiring a new | :23:45. | :23:47.
generation of fighters. James Gallagher leaves his home in | :23:48. | :23:51.
Strabane to spend the rest of the week training at Dublin's gym. He | :23:52. | :23:57.
had his first fight at the age of 13. When he turns 18, he hopes to | :23:58. | :24:03.
turn professional. He is already training with UFC stars. | :24:04. | :24:09.
When I came here -- when I get to UFC and get a few quid in the banks, | :24:10. | :24:16.
it will all be worth it. I believe within the next year or so, I will | :24:17. | :24:23.
join the UFC. This weekends, it is Conor | :24:24. | :24:29.
McGregor's turning the spotlight. Here is a sign of the sport's | :24:30. | :24:38.
growing appeal. A sold out arena. It's a tough sports. Finally, | :24:39. | :24:47.
congratulations to Linfield who scored one nil in the 100s last | :24:48. | :24:52.
night. That bit from Royal Liverpool. It looks pretty nice over | :24:53. | :25:07.
there. What is our weekend got in store. | :25:08. | :25:12.
The weather may have an impact on the Open Championship tomorrow. | :25:13. | :25:18.
There could be some severe storms in the area. Northern Ireland is going | :25:19. | :25:24.
to mist the worst of those. There will be then showers this weekend | :25:25. | :25:28.
but it is by no means a certainty. Lots of places may stay dry or at | :25:29. | :25:34.
least have only one to showers. It will continue to be worn with | :25:35. | :25:37.
temperatures generally getting up to around 20 or 21 degrees. We have had | :25:38. | :25:42.
areas of cloud moving out from the South today but we are now looking | :25:43. | :25:47.
at clear skies edging up towards us this evening. It doesn't mean it | :25:48. | :25:51.
will be dry everywhere. You could be one or two showers later on. Many | :25:52. | :25:56.
places having a reasonable evening with some sunshine around. Later on, | :25:57. | :26:00.
one or two showers moving out across the West. The risk of mist and low | :26:01. | :26:06.
cloud. That may well played parts of the East. It will be another warmer, | :26:07. | :26:13.
fairly sticky night with temperatures no lower than 16 | :26:14. | :26:16.
degrees. Tomorrow, fairly warm and humid. The mist and low cloud | :26:17. | :26:21.
around. That will lift and brighten up with temperatures rising. A bit | :26:22. | :26:27.
hit and mist as to where the showers will be at two areas to focus on | :26:28. | :26:32.
tomorrow. The first, through the morning, will be Easter and areas. | :26:33. | :26:35.
That is because of the closeness to the sphere of storm that will be | :26:36. | :26:39.
happening across the border. Do the West, a lot of places dry with | :26:40. | :26:44.
sunshine from time to time. Not as breezy as was today close to these | :26:45. | :26:48.
posts. Despite being cloudy at times, temperatures will still be up | :26:49. | :26:56.
around 20 degrees. As we start to see those sort of temperatures | :26:57. | :26:58.
during the latter part of the afternoon, it is likely to be | :26:59. | :27:04.
Fermanagh and Tyrone facing the risk of boundary showers during the day. | :27:05. | :27:07.
Further east, it should start to dry up. Tomorrow evening, all that | :27:08. | :27:12.
potential thundery weather fades away. It will become largely dry. | :27:13. | :27:19.
Sunday, slightly fresher. Still one or two showers around. A lot of dry | :27:20. | :27:25.
and bright weather with some sunshine. That should continue into | :27:26. | :27:27.
the next week. can also keep in contact with us via | :27:28. | :27:30.
