Petrol bombs have been thrown at the home of a man working | :01:01. | :01:12.

The Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster says people need to look with | :01:17. | :01:20.
cool heads at the facts and the scientific evidence around fracking. | :01:21. | :01:24.
She says the process is new, novel and contentious, and it will | :01:25. | :01:28.
be up to the entire Executive to decide if it will ever take place. | :01:29. | :01:32.
Here's our south west reporter Julian Fowler. | :01:33. | :01:56.
Two weeks ago, they secured this quarry, where it wants to drill a | :01:57. | :02:05.
borehole. non-negotiable. It is the way we | :02:06. | :02:25.
want to protest. The environment minister has seven more days to | :02:26. | :02:29.
decide if it can go ahead. It will not involve fracking. There have | :02:30. | :02:40.
been misleading statements made recently, some ignorant statements | :02:41. | :02:43.
made. I hope people recognise this is not just a matter for me or for | :02:44. | :02:47.
the Minister of the environment. It's a matter for the entire | :02:48. | :02:54.
Executive to discuss and decide on. The issue threatens to deepen | :02:55. | :02:59.
divisions in the local community. They are ordinary people from the | :03:00. | :03:04.
community who have major concerns from all sections of the community. | :03:05. | :03:09.
I know there have been some isolated incidents about the quarry itself | :03:10. | :03:15.
and at the site. It has had some sectarian aspects to it. We need | :03:16. | :03:20.
people to come together, regardless of their affiliations. People in the | :03:21. | :03:26.
West need to fight fracking. We need to ensure the protests are kept | :03:27. | :03:30.
peaceful, that we say on the right side of the law and that would | :03:31. | :03:35.
protest in a way which doesn't impact on anyone's health and | :03:36. | :03:39.
safety. Police want to speak to the driver of a dark coloured Audi | :03:40. | :03:42.
estate car seen in the area of Station Road | :03:43. | :03:43.
Specially trained victim recovery dogs are being used | :03:44. | :03:49.
in a fresh search for a murdered teenager in Portadown. | :03:50. | :03:51.
Caroline Graham went missing in the town 25 years ago. | :03:52. | :03:54.
The police have launched a new search at a house in Hanover Street | :03:55. | :03:58.
where the 19-year-old was living when she disappeared in March 1989. | :03:59. | :04:03.
Our south east reporter Gordon Adair has more. | :04:04. | :04:09.
These are specially trained victim recovery dogs. Today, they are | :04:10. | :04:16.
searching for a bill that police believe became a victim 25 years | :04:17. | :04:23.
ago. It is almost two years since the police began re-examining the | :04:24. | :04:26.
murder of Caroline Graham. In that time, they've carried out a number | :04:27. | :04:30.
of searches, the most extensive of which concentrated on waste ground | :04:31. | :04:33.
not far from where I am standing. This, however, is the first officers | :04:34. | :04:38.
have used specialist dogs to search the flat where Caroline lived. It | :04:39. | :04:43.
was new information from the public which prompted the search but the | :04:44. | :04:46.
police believe there are people out there who have yet to come forward | :04:47. | :04:51.
and who might hold the key to catching Caroline's killer. Whoever | :04:52. | :04:56.
is responsible for this crime, whoever they are, I believe they | :04:57. | :05:00.
have may have discussed this over the last 25 years. If that is the | :05:01. | :05:08.
case, and you have information, I'll appealing directly to you to provide | :05:09. | :05:16.
that information to my team. Detective Chief Inspector Montgomery | :05:17. | :05:18.
also appealed directly to Caroline's killer. Search your | :05:19. | :05:26.
conscience. Search your conscience and end this anguish for Caroline's | :05:27. | :05:33.
family. Chief Inspector Montgomery also renewed his recent appeal for | :05:34. | :05:38.
two soldiers who gave that she believes gave Caroline a lift home | :05:39. | :05:42.
on a night of her murder to come forward. | :05:43. | :05:44.
A 31-year-old man has been arrested after a series of hate crimes | :05:45. | :05:47.
Paint was thrown over a car and another vehicle had its windscreen | :05:48. | :05:51.
One of the cars belonged to a Polish family and the police believe | :05:52. | :05:55.
A short time later another windscreen was smashed | :05:56. | :05:58.
Enquiries into the attacks are continuing. | :05:59. | :06:05.
Commemoration events are taking place across Northern Ireland to | :06:06. | :06:08.
mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War. | :06:09. | :06:12.
A candlelit vigil will be held at Belfast City Hall later and | :06:13. | :06:15.
a special service will get underway at St Anne's Cathedral shortly. | :06:16. | :06:20.
Mark Simpson is there for BBC Newsline. | :06:21. | :06:27.
The service begins here at seven o'clock but already the congregation | :06:28. | :06:31.
is building, including politicians from both sides of the border. | :06:32. | :06:38.
Of course, the War took place before partition and people from across | :06:39. | :06:42.
First, an extraordinary story from just up the road in North Belfast. A | :06:43. | :06:58.
family who had a leak in their roof and when they went up to inspect the | :06:59. | :07:02.
leak in their attic, they had a look and found a little tin box. A piece | :07:03. | :07:16.
of history long forgotten about. John Craig and his wife find this | :07:17. | :07:20.
tin tucked away in their erratic. It was a gift from King | :07:21. | :07:25.
tin tucked away in their erratic. It daughter, Queen Mary... Probably, is | :07:26. | :07:33.
held in suites of tobacco. 100 years on and inside, hidden treasures from | :07:34. | :07:41.
an arm: Dead, Andrew Craig. There was some German money and also a | :07:42. | :07:44.
small book with his was some German money and also a | :07:45. | :07:53.
Andrew Craig, and his number, Army number. Various other things. There | :07:54. | :07:58.
was a poem in it which is hard to make out but most of it was written | :07:59. | :08:04.
in pencil. This is from an Irishman, fighting out in France, sitting in | :08:05. | :08:08.
the trenches, waiting for his chance. Here he sits at thinking, | :08:09. | :08:13.
his thoughts are far away... And to's role in World War I wasn't | :08:14. | :08:16.
for the family expected. In fact, it was only a small part of the story. | :08:17. | :08:24.
Is this war experts discovered. Does that mean there are | :08:25. | :08:26.
Is this war experts discovered. Does together? There were three others. | :08:27. | :08:32.
They all came from the one family in Ballymena, they all are listed on | :08:33. | :08:35.
the one day, that they had sequential numbers and it has been a | :08:36. | :08:40.
wonderful story. Unlike his brothers, Andrew Craig never made it | :08:41. | :08:45.
to the trenches, falling ill. He was medically discharged. His brothers, | :08:46. | :08:51.
Thomas and John, fought side by side with the 36th Ulster division. Both | :08:52. | :08:56.
were wounded and while Thomas was promoted, John was awarded two | :08:57. | :09:02.
medals. This tin, found 99 years after it was gifted, has given the | :09:03. | :09:06.
Craig family a war story that otherwise may never have been told. | :09:07. | :09:18.
So many stories, so many tragic stories. Let's hear more about that | :09:19. | :09:23.
period with historian, they were two private armies in | :09:24. | :09:42.
Ireland at the time. Suddenly, things moved with amazing speed on | :09:43. | :09:45.
the continent of Europe. On this Day 100 years ago, Britain declared war | :09:46. | :09:52.
on Germany. That propelled both armies to commit their forces to the | :09:53. | :09:56.
war effort. Suddenly, the UVF were transformed into the Ulster | :09:57. | :10:03.
division. Men were filtered into two Irish divisions. A call from the | :10:04. | :10:07.
Irish Brigade, the 16th Irish and the 10th Irish. The horrors of the | :10:08. | :10:11.
Battle of the Somme and the Dardanelles for those men lay | :10:12. | :10:14.
beyond. Something like 200,000 Irishmen joined up of both | :10:15. | :10:20.
traditions. At least 40,000 died between 1914 and 1918, in that war | :10:21. | :10:24.
of attrition. In spite of Ireland's own problems at the time, there was | :10:25. | :10:28.
no problem with men signing up. There wasn't. They were | :10:29. | :10:33.
patriotically motives, for Ireland and home rule but also because of | :10:34. | :10:37.
poverty in inner cities and other towns. The Anglo-Irish aristocracy | :10:38. | :10:44.
joined up out of service as well. Ireland committed to Britain's war | :10:45. | :10:50.
effort in 1914. This service is about to take place in 20 minutes. | :10:51. | :10:54.
Let's have a word with one of the clergy taking part, the dean of the | :10:55. | :10:58.
cathedral. What can we expect this evening? It is a service that is | :10:59. | :11:05.
based around our ordinary service of evening prayer. There are special | :11:06. | :11:08.
elements and we have thought long and hard about how we should mark | :11:09. | :11:13.
this occasion. It is a strange occasion to commemorate the outbreak | :11:14. | :11:17.
of war. We are very conscience of how easy it is to move into a war | :11:18. | :11:23.
situation and how difficult it is to get out of that. We are very | :11:24. | :11:26.
conscious of what is happening in the world today. There is an act of | :11:27. | :11:33.
remembrance. One of the key things will be the lighting of candles. | :11:34. | :11:36.
There are five young people who will be lighting a candle for each of the | :11:37. | :11:42.
calendar years of the war. The book of the Irish war dead will be | :11:43. | :11:45.
carried down from the altar and placed on electing a that the Duke | :11:46. | :11:51.
of York will send light. At that time, there are some plans for very | :11:52. | :11:58.
moving music to be sung. It will recall just what the suffering and | :11:59. | :12:04.
sacrifice that was involved in this war brought about. I will let you | :12:05. | :12:07.
get back in but thank you for joining us. At the dean of the | :12:08. | :12:10.
Cathedral mentioned, the Duke of York, Prince Andrew, is a Queen's | :12:11. | :12:16.
It looks like a lava flow made out of mud. | :12:17. | :12:20.
But it's just another symptom of our summer weather. | :12:21. | :12:23.
We hear how landslides like this have been causing havoc. | :12:24. | :12:32.
Five people were killed on our roads over the weekend, | :12:33. | :12:34.
bringing the total number of road deaths so far this year to 48. | :12:35. | :12:37.
In Newry on Saturday, 67-year-old Joan Connor and 19-year-old Niall | :12:38. | :12:40.
Meanwhile, the army has been paying tribute to | :12:41. | :12:47.
the two soldiers who died in a crash in county Antrim on Friday night. | :12:48. | :12:51.
They were Lance Corporal David Gwilt and Rifleman Dale Harris. | :12:52. | :12:55.
Also on Friday Andrius Liberis, originally from Lithuania, | :12:56. | :12:59.
died in hospital following a crash on Wednesday. | :13:00. | :13:04.
The Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games team has arrived home to | :13:05. | :13:08.
We can join Stephen Watson who is there live. | :13:09. | :13:19.
As you can see, the Northern Ireland team has just arrived back from | :13:20. | :13:25.
Glasgow at a very successful games. 12 medals in all, nine of those came | :13:26. | :13:30.
from our boxers and, in a moment, I will speak to a couple of our medal | :13:31. | :13:37.
winners. We have been following team Northern Ireland every step of the | :13:38. | :13:39.
way for the last fortnight, and we were with them on their final leg of | :13:40. | :13:49.
the journey today. Gold-medallists Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlan at | :13:50. | :13:53.
the controls and they returned from Glasgow after the most successful | :13:54. | :14:01.
games since 1986. Defending champion, it's only four years. | :14:02. | :14:10.
There are different disciplines. You see how they get ready to comp it | :14:11. | :14:21.
is. 14-year-old swimmer Daniel Hill, heated for the first time. She is | :14:22. | :14:25.
looking forward to the Gold Coast. I can't wait. Obviously, there is | :14:26. | :14:30.
loads of training to get in to be the best. Hopefully I will be the | :14:31. | :14:37.
best. I can't wait, I'll work hard and see what I can do. For the | :14:38. | :14:43.
bowlers, it was their fifth and final games. Both got medals, proud | :14:44. | :14:47.
to have represented Northern Ireland for so long. the boxes are a great | :14:48. | :14:53.
inspiration. It was a fantastic atmosphere and it is good for sports | :14:54. | :14:57.
in Northern Ireland. As long as we keep bringing medals back we can | :14:58. | :15:03.
push up the table next time. My first was in 1994 in Vancouver | :15:04. | :15:07.
Island. When you walk into that stadium for the ceremony, you feel a | :15:08. | :15:10.
foot taller than your normal height. It is an amazing experience. | :15:11. | :15:20.
It was the headlines. Some real class athletes. They | :15:21. | :15:24.
It was the headlines. Some real plate, that is | :15:25. | :15:33.
It was the headlines. Some real like about. Everybody worked at | :15:34. | :15:35.
their best. like about. Everybody worked at | :15:36. | :15:38.
will be many memorable moments to look back on. I have managed to find | :15:39. | :15:50.
Michaela Walsh and gold winner Michael Conlan. It must be great to | :15:51. | :15:55.
be home. definitely. We have been away for a long time and just to | :15:56. | :15:59.
come home with medals is a brilliant achievements. I'm looking for to the | :16:00. | :16:06.
future. Michael, show us your gold and tell us what it means to you. it | :16:07. | :16:10.
means the world to me. I've worked hard for it. I was in training all | :16:11. | :16:17.
year, it is all I have thought all year. I had to go to Glasgow and do | :16:18. | :16:26.
the job. Turning professional how? Or do you have your sights set on | :16:27. | :16:31.
real question mark I don't know which I'm going to choose yet, it | :16:32. | :16:36.
could be Rio or I could go professional. No decisions yet, | :16:37. | :16:41.
there is no point because you don't say things you don't mean. I'll take | :16:42. | :16:48.
a month off first. Michaela, I'm sure you are looking forward to a | :16:49. | :16:52.
rest. As it sunk in that that you are the first ever woman boxer to | :16:53. | :16:58.
win at the Commonwealth Games? It has not sunk in yet. I feel a bit | :16:59. | :17:03.
disappointed, still. I was cheated, not defeated. But that is the way it | :17:04. | :17:07.
goes. My main focus now is Rio and I can't wait to see what the future | :17:08. | :17:12.
holds. Michael, apart your dad who was the coach of the team, what is | :17:13. | :17:17.
the rest of this success down to? It is hard work and determination. And | :17:18. | :17:22.
solve belief. Michaela was one of my favourites to win a gold, and I | :17:23. | :17:25.
really do believe she was hard done by. She did a great job for the | :17:26. | :17:30.
first major games. She got a brilliant performance in every | :17:31. | :17:31.
single fight. brilliant performance in every | :17:32. | :17:39.
champion. Olympic champion in the future hopefully? | :17:40. | :17:41.
champion. Olympic champion in the all the way. The future is bright | :17:42. | :17:49.
for women in boxing. I'm looking all the way. The future is bright | :17:50. | :17:55.
forward to the rest. You will find arguments from me. Well done to you | :17:56. | :17:58.
both. Great to have a medallist home. | :17:59. | :18:01.
Rory is back on top after landing his second title win | :18:02. | :18:09.
in a row and he tells us he's in the best form of his life. | :18:10. | :18:16.
A 27-year-old man has been arrested after a pipe bomb attack | :18:17. | :18:18.
The device was thrown at a parked car in Duncairn Gardens at | :18:19. | :18:22.
A number of homes and buildings were evacuated, | :18:23. | :18:28.
Police and army technical officers were at the scene and the area was | :18:29. | :18:33.
This is not part of the new Belfast, all Northern Ireland. This is | :18:34. | :18:46.
something which we hoped to have overcome and which we hope to | :18:47. | :18:47.
overcome. Torrential rain over the weekend | :18:48. | :18:48.
caused landslides in County Antrim, as around 50 millimetres | :18:49. | :18:50.
of rain fell in just a few hours. The downpours brought havoc to | :18:51. | :18:53.
farmers, as Louise Cullen reports. Are rolling, rumbling torrent of | :18:54. | :19:12.
peat, muck and stones. The heavy rain on Saturday dislodged the land | :19:13. | :19:17.
here leaving scars on the mountainside and a swathe of mud | :19:18. | :19:22.
across the road. we were coming back on Saturday and we looked up and saw | :19:23. | :19:32.
the ground looking funny. We saw there was a landslide and we'll came | :19:33. | :19:40.
rushing to see it. It was dramatic. The force of the water was powerful. | :19:41. | :19:48.
It was the first time people here and seen anything like it. There | :19:49. | :19:55.
were big clumps of mud beside of cars sliding across. It was quite | :19:56. | :20:01.
amazing to see. Once the road is cleared and opened to traffic again, | :20:02. | :20:06.
this is a very rural area. There were no properties under threat. But | :20:07. | :20:09.
it was a different story in one of the other glens. The rain also calls | :20:10. | :20:14.
for landslides in the mountains. They crashed down the slopes, | :20:15. | :20:19.
bringing stones, trees and destruction that this farm and | :20:20. | :20:25.
guesthouse. the stream has broken out and I ran out thinking I needed | :20:26. | :20:30.
something to stop the flow of water. But within ten minutes, as you can | :20:31. | :20:34.
see here, several hundred tonnes of rocks came right down, right down to | :20:35. | :20:40.
the farmyard. And the mode as you can see, came right up to the door. | :20:41. | :20:46.
Livestock and pets had to be let loose at the water came through. we | :20:47. | :20:49.
have animals ready to go to the plants this morning. They are in the | :20:50. | :20:54.
sheds here, I don't know where some of the mark. I have never seen | :20:55. | :20:59.
anything like this, I did see the stream trickle out, but, as you can | :21:00. | :21:04.
see, this is unbelievable. With the clear up and away and the sun is | :21:05. | :21:08.
shining, the suddenness of Saturday's landslips seems a distant | :21:09. | :21:11.
memory. People here will be hoping it stays | :21:12. | :21:12.
Rory McIlroy is back at World Number One, right in time | :21:13. | :21:18.
Rory McIlroy is very much back. March 2013 will be last time he held | :21:19. | :21:37.
that coveted number one spot. And after claiming his first world golf | :21:38. | :21:41.
Championship in Bridgestone, he was in Ohio yesterday. He now heads to | :21:42. | :21:47.
Louisville Kentucky and has declared he is in the farm that I quote form | :21:48. | :21:58.
of his life. The macro another week, another title. Having shown in the | :21:59. | :22:01.
past that he can lead from the front, this was an example of the | :22:02. | :22:12.
25-year-old's batting qualities. Biased quality. | :22:13. | :22:28.
As Rory McIlroy produced a flawless display. While also holding his | :22:29. | :22:42.
nerve on the Green. I'm feeling good. I've been saying I'm playing | :22:43. | :22:48.
as good as I ever have. When I needed to hit a couple of good ones | :22:49. | :22:53.
down the last couple of holes, I was able to pull them out of the bag. | :22:54. | :22:58.
I'm heading to Valhalla with huge confidence, going there are other | :22:59. | :23:01.
will's number one player is a bonus, but, I've got a couple of big days | :23:02. | :23:05.
ahead of me just to learn the course and get to know it's a little bit, | :23:06. | :23:08.
so when IT up next Thursday, I'm ready to go. Is first world golf | :23:09. | :23:17.
Championship in this form, Rory McIlroy looks | :23:18. | :23:18.
The eighth round of the world rally championship has | :23:19. | :23:26.
produced a third podium finish for Northern Ireland's Kris Meeke. | :23:27. | :23:29.
The Dungannon driver in his lively Citroen DS 3 was impressive in the | :23:30. | :23:32.
Rally of Finland, finishing third behind runner-up, Sebastien Ogier of | :23:33. | :23:36.
Meeke, who lies sixth overall in the drivers? standings, will race | :23:37. | :23:45.
The ball was a bar of soap, there was one almighty deluge, and, | :23:46. | :23:53.
at the end of it all, one player's prayers were answered. | :23:54. | :23:57.
Monaghan are back in the All-Ireland Quarter Finals thanks to a first | :23:58. | :24:00.
championship win in Croke Park for some eight-and-a-half decades. | :24:01. | :24:04.
Armagh's win over Meath sets up an All-Ulster clash with Donegal this | :24:05. | :24:08.
Saturday, by which time the players will have just about dried out. | :24:09. | :24:17.
Floodlights, floods of rain and a not insignificant trickle of fans | :24:18. | :24:23.
were treated to a right old rumble in Croke Park. a blinding finish! | :24:24. | :24:40.
Won and it got better. it would take extra time and Christopher | :24:41. | :24:43.
McGuinness to get Monaghan over the line. The dubious prize: Dublin at | :24:44. | :24:52.
Croke Park this Saturday. Armagh will be there too, compliments of a | :24:53. | :24:56.
composter win over Meath. Winning does bring it some amends and that | :24:57. | :25:00.
the momentum and a Green shoots of recovery are very much in evidence. | :25:01. | :25:10.
Congratulations to Armagh and Monaghan. Conor McManus earlier this | :25:11. | :25:18.
year thought his season was over but accommodation of lotions, potions | :25:19. | :25:19.
and prayer has got of his knees. We had quite a wash-out across many | :25:20. | :25:34.
places. We did have more rain than was expected, but thankfully, | :25:35. | :25:36.
today's forecast has was expected, but thankfully, | :25:37. | :25:38.
Plenty of dry and bright weather. was expected, but thankfully, | :25:39. | :25:42.
Some evening sunshine danger, as well. Just if you showers. | :25:43. | :25:47.
the night, the cloud will come in, bringing some outbreaks of rain. | :25:48. | :25:48.
Another mild bringing some outbreaks of rain. | :25:49. | :25:49.
temperatures up to bringing some outbreaks of rain. | :25:50. | :25:53.
Tomorrow, we are bringing some outbreaks of rain. | :25:54. | :25:57.
scattering showers, especially in the east. Some of those will be | :25:58. | :26:01.
heavy. The Met office has issued a weather warning for the showers. | :26:02. | :26:05.
There is potential for some thundering downpours, so there may | :26:06. | :26:08.
be some localised flooding problems with surface water on the roads. | :26:09. | :26:15.
Bear in mind. A fairly cloudy start, some wet weather drifting up across | :26:16. | :26:17.
eastern counties, and, again, some wet weather drifting up across | :26:18. | :26:21.
will be heavy. Showers will be spaced out, so it will be raining | :26:22. | :26:25.
all day. There will be some bright weather and sunshine, too. But if | :26:26. | :26:29.
you do catch showers, you will certainly know about it. There may | :26:30. | :26:33.
even be some hail. Winds will be light, and temperatures will get up | :26:34. | :26:38.
to 19 or 20 degrees. Insert tomorrow evening, showers will continue to | :26:39. | :26:41.
drift across. They should become much light as we go into the | :26:42. | :26:45.
evening, and some bright weather before nightfall. Tomorrow night it | :26:46. | :26:48.
will turn wet again. This mixed band of rain pushes up, during the course | :26:49. | :26:53.
of Tuesday into Wednesday. It will be a warm night with some temp | :26:54. | :26:58.
wishes to be no lower than 15 degrees. Some of our wet weather | :26:59. | :27:01.
will be out there on Wednesday, not a great start to the day. The good | :27:02. | :27:05.
news is that the latest data we have shows that it should brighten up as | :27:06. | :27:09.
we make our way into the afternoon. Some sunshine beginning to develop | :27:10. | :27:13.
and a much better enter the day. We hold onto the temperatures, despite | :27:14. | :27:17.
a cloud and wet styles, 19, maybe 20 degrees. Thursday looks as though it | :27:18. | :27:22.
will be the best of the week before more unsettled weather comes in on | :27:23. | :27:26.
Friday. Low pressure brings some stronger winds and outbreaks of | :27:27. | 0:20:29
rain. You can also keep in contact with | 0:20:30 | 0:20:29
