A 57-year-old woman has been arrested during

a security operation in Twinbrook, on the outskirts of West Belfast.

Belfast Councillor Ruth Patterson says she will not be appealing her

The First Minister, Peter Robinson, revealed that she had been expelled

for bringing the party into disrepute.

Ms Patterson had publicly criticised the DUP's decision to appoint

Emma Pengelly as an MLA for South Belfast.

electronic message. It was a comment on Facebook about a republican

march. The charges withdrawn. On Friday she was informed that she has

now been expelled from the party after she publicly criticised the

call option of Emma Pengelly as MLA for South actors in South Belfast.

Ruth Patterson had hoped to get the job herself. There is a principle in

my book of giving someone who has earned the chance, rather than

someone who does not have one solitary vote. Ms Pengelly, who was

appointed to the rule, 30 days after being co-opted, defended the

decision. The privy -- the procedure divides for a call option. And a

mandate. I am taking on the post of Jimmy Spratt. Speaking on the Sunday

Politics programme, she was told she was no longer a member. Party

officers unanimously decided to expel heard this week. And how they

responded to that notification to your knowledge? I believe there was

some correspondence but that is party business. And if she takes off

to the TUV in the future, does that give you cause for concern? It might

give them cause for concern. Today, she declined to be interviewed but

she released a statement saying she stood over her criticism and added

that a weight has been lifted, her spread is free and the shackles that

have bound her are gone. It is understood she has no plans to move

to any other party, for the time being at least.
