Good evening and welcome to BBC Newsline. | :00:07. | :00:08.
Storm Desmond has been wreaking havoc in Northern Ireland. | :00:09. | :00:11.
The Fire and Rescue Service says it has responded to 31 flooding | :00:12. | :00:15.
incidents, rescuing 24 people, in Counties Fermanagh, Londonderry | :00:16. | :00:19.
and Tyrone since yesterday evening because of heavy rain. | :00:20. | :00:23.
Ten people were helped to safety during one incident in Strabane | :00:24. | :00:27.
while in Dungannon 31 retailing units were hit by an overnight flood | :00:28. | :00:31.
Damage to stock is estimated in the millions of pounds. | :00:32. | :00:38.
Mopping out and counting the cost. 31 retail units on the shopping | :00:39. | :01:01.
complex on the outskirts of Dungannon or hurt by the overnight | :01:02. | :01:04.
flight. Estimated cost of stock lost run | :01:05. | :01:06.
into millions of pounds. This is Christmas stock and it is | :01:07. | :01:08.
unfortunate to happen in this period. I am looking at 30 or | :01:09. | :01:15.
?40,000 worth of stock. The basement storeroom was wiped out | :01:16. | :01:18.
here. Ang Lee, I remain shop floor is | :01:19. | :01:21.
elevated so it didn't get as much of the flood but our storeroom is | :01:22. | :01:26.
completely wiped out and we are left devastated with the majority of our | :01:27. | :01:38.
overstock destroyed down here. This is the high part of the | :01:39. | :01:42.
shopping complex. This photo taken first thing this | :01:43. | :01:45.
morning shows what it was like before the waters receded. This area | :01:46. | :01:54.
was blocked, causing the flood which also swept through the road service | :01:55. | :01:57.
depot to damage a number of vehicles. | :01:58. | :02:00.
We were as prepared as we could be for this but we had a very | :02:01. | :02:09.
significant rain for -- rainfall and it brought debris down. | :02:10. | :02:15.
We will see what damage has been done and take notice. Not great at | :02:16. | :02:18.
this time of year but what can you do? Everybody has been affected. We | :02:19. | :02:23.
hope to be up and running as soon as possible, probably Tuesday or | :02:24. | :02:27.
Wednesday. Shop owners in to be open for | :02:28. | :02:30.
business again in the next couple of days. | :02:31. | :02:32.
In Clady, a digger was used to help bring an elderly man to safety | :02:33. | :02:35.
after he was trapped in his home by flood waters. | :02:36. | :02:39.
Foyle Search and Rescue and the Community Rescue Service were called | :02:40. | :02:42.
The village has been badly affected, as Ita Dungan reports. | :02:43. | :03:04.
On the outskirts of Clady, it was a long night for these rodents. -- | :03:05. | :03:18.
residents. We could see two meadows and over the far side is the far | :03:19. | :03:23.
bank of the River Finn. But that bank has been coming slowly more and | :03:24. | :03:33.
more flooded. The only view is up and over this ladder. This is into | :03:34. | :03:40.
your garden at the back. How far did the water come? | :03:41. | :03:44.
The water was up to here and the River agency guys brought sandbags | :03:45. | :03:50.
for the back and front of the house about 6pm. The fire brigade then | :03:51. | :03:56.
arrived to see if I wanted to go out in the boat. We said no. | :03:57. | :04:07.
In the town itself, the border was closed. | :04:08. | :04:15.
The shop was restarted three weeks ago after another flood. You see | :04:16. | :04:22.
bottles floating. There is a piece here and it will be a long time to | :04:23. | :04:31.
get insurance sorted out. It is expected to subside over | :04:32. | :04:34.
coming days and in the clean-up will begin. Canisters have been dumped by | :04:35. | :04:41.
the flooding water. In County Fermanagh, a number | :04:42. | :04:43.
of roads are closed due to flooding including the Acres, | :04:44. | :04:45.
a housing development off For one man, | :04:46. | :04:47.
a flooded road in Maguiresbridge He says the rain has had | :04:48. | :04:50.
a devastating effect on the area. It is unbelievable the amount of | :04:51. | :05:07.
water that has come up. All the bridges or fill in the water is | :05:08. | :05:11.
building back up through these fields and up through the farms. | :05:12. | :05:15.
There are farms run the country and they have lost loads of silage. It | :05:16. | :05:19.
is devastating. The stormy weather has caused | :05:20. | :05:21.
problems in other areas too. In Antrim, | :05:22. | :05:23.
pictures taken this morning show flooding in Templepatrick | :05:24. | :05:25.
and the area around the town centre In the Republic, | :05:26. | :05:27.
the army has been drafted in to help out in a number of areas | :05:28. | :05:34.
including Cork and Kerry to assist They were responding to requests | :05:35. | :05:38.
for help from local authorities. Two security alerts in Londonderry | :05:39. | :05:44.
have now ended. Spencer Road and the city's railway | :05:45. | :05:47.
station were closed yesterday following reports that explosive | :05:48. | :05:50.
devices had been left in both areas. The PSNI say following searches | :05:51. | :05:55.
nothing untoward was found. Now, after all the heavy rain of the | :05:56. | :06:00.
past few days, let's see if we're in for a bit of a drier spell. | :06:01. | :06:03.
Angie Phillips has the details. Today was a welcome better day but | :06:04. | :06:18.
storm Desmond has left his mark in places, especially the West where it | :06:19. | :06:25.
was waterlogged and flooded. Unfortunately, still some more | :06:26. | :06:30.
unsettled weather to come. Often quite windy along with showers. Try | :06:31. | :06:43.
this evening -- dry. Some ground frost is possible. That is the | :06:44. | :06:51.
indicator for tomorrow. And unsettled day, often windy. A wet | :06:52. | :06:58.
started the day with heavy pulses of rain, although that batch of rain | :06:59. | :07:02.
will move away with the rush hour to give us a dry spell in the morning. | :07:03. | :07:11.
Drier and brighter for England and Wales and for much of the country we | :07:12. | :07:16.
are looking at e-mail today. Into the afternoon, another band of rain | :07:17. | :07:21.
pushing into the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Some of that | :07:22. | :07:26.
could be persistent with strong blustery winds as well. Given the | :07:27. | :07:31.
concerns about the rain, the Met office have issued a warning | :07:32. | :07:36.
particularly in ground already saturated. There is more rain and | :07:37. | :07:40.
the forecast Tuesday and Wednesday. That's it from us | :07:41. | :07:43.
until 10:20pm this evening. In the meantime, you can keep up to | :07:44. | :07:45.
