This is BBC Newsline with Donna Traynor.

A man in his 50s has died following a three vehicle crash

:00:11.:00:13.

Five other people were injured in the collision on Colin road.

:00:14.:00:19.

Two are said to be in a serious condition.

:00:20.:00:22.

The road has been closed in both directions.

:00:23.:00:27.

The Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams has apologised for using the N word

:00:28.:00:30.

in a message on Twitter which referred to a movie

:00:31.:00:34.

He later said he was comparing the plight of the slaves to

:00:35.:00:39.

Here's our political correspondent, Enda McClafferty.

:00:40.:00:45.

It was a film which stirred much emotion about racism

:00:46.:00:52.

And last night, Djano Unchained stirred the Sinn Fein president

:00:53.:00:59.

Gerry Adams to post a comment on Twitter, in which he used the N

:01:00.:01:02.

word in comparing the struggle of slaves in the US to the plight

:01:03.:01:07.

It provoked an angry reaction online and the post was quickly taken down.

:01:08.:01:14.

This morning, the Sinn Fein president called a news conference

:01:15.:01:17.

I acknowledge that the N word was inappropriate -

:01:18.:01:24.

I stand over the context and substance of the point that

:01:25.:01:31.

I was making, which is the parallel between the plight of people here in

:01:32.:01:35.

Ireland and the struggle of people of African-American extraction.

:01:36.:01:44.

Former Republican prisoner Tim Tim Brannigan said our

-- Former Republican prisoner Tim Brannigan said our

:01:52.:01:54.

politicians need to be more careful about the language they use.

:01:55.:01:57.

The word itself was racist, but I wouldn't call

:01:58.:01:59.

You know, it was a one-off remark that he got wrong,

:02:00.:02:02.

and it is great to hear that he apologised

:02:03.:02:05.

So, not for the first time, the Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams

:02:06.:02:10.

has been forced to issue a public apology because of controversial

:02:11.:02:12.

And once again his political opponents north and south have been

:02:13.:02:16.

Not so within Sinn Fein, where Gerry Adams is still very much

:02:17.:02:23.

considered more of an asset than a liability.

:02:24.:02:33.

A man has appeared in court charged with rape.

:02:34.:02:37.

It follows an attack on a woman at a park near Dungannon

:02:38.:02:39.

James Wright, of Derrylee Road in Dungannon was bought into and out

:02:40.:02:48.

of Omagh Magistrates' Court under a blanket.

:02:49.:02:50.

The defence described their client as being of extremely low intellect.

:02:51.:02:55.

The attack happened in Peatlands Park, near Dungannon,

:02:56.:02:58.

while the woman was walking her dog in broad daylight last week.

:02:59.:03:01.

A detective claimed Wright had cycled round the victim before

:03:02.:03:04.

raping her shortly before three o'clock in the afternoon.

:03:05.:03:08.

It is alleged Wright put his hand over the woman's

:03:09.:03:11.

-- mouth to stop her from screaming dring what was described as an

:03:12.:03:20.

When the victim realised her attacker had learning difficulties,

:03:21.:03:23.

she changed her tone - she asked him for his name,

:03:24.:03:26.

but he refused, saying, "I can't tell you because you would tell

:03:27.:03:29.

someone who would get me into trouble."

:03:30.:03:30.

The court heard Wright, who's known to social services,

:03:31.:03:32.

was assessed by a psychiatrist who deemed him fit to be detained

:03:33.:03:35.

A bicycle and high-visibility jacket matching the description given

:03:36.:03:39.

by the victim were recovered from the accused's home,

:03:40.:03:43.

just a short distance from Peatlands Park.

:03:44.:03:46.

Detectives are still searching for a bicycle helmet.

:03:47.:03:49.

District Judge Peter King refused bail because of what he said

:03:50.:03:52.

Wright was remanded in custody until later this month.

:03:53.:04:03.

Hundreds of people have attended the funeral of a nun

:04:04.:04:05.

from Londonderry who was killed in the Equador earthquake.

:04:06.:04:10.

Sister Clare Theresa Crocket died when a school building collapsed.

:04:11.:04:13.

Sister Clare Crockett was working as a teacher at this school when the

:04:14.:04:25.

earthquake hit. She was just 33 when she died a fortnight ago. Today,

:04:26.:04:30.

hundreds of mourners, including her parents and sisters, packed the

:04:31.:04:39.

church for her funeral Mass. Students from Saint Cecilia's

:04:40.:04:42.

College formed a guard of honour for the past people, described as a

:04:43.:04:45.

shining example to others. She was extracting example of Derry woman.

:04:46.:04:52.

Many people have spoken of how she inspired them.

:04:53.:05:01.

Nuns from the order of which she was a member came to the city to pay

:05:02.:05:07.

tribute to her. Everybody remembers her. She has been in communities in

:05:08.:05:14.

America, Spain, Ecuador. Wherever she went, we've been receiving

:05:15.:05:23.

e-mails from all over the world. She was remembered today as someone who

:05:24.:05:26.

travelled the world to help others. But she troubled home today for her

:05:27.:05:28.

final journey in the play she loved. The renowned artist Basil Blackshaw

:05:29.:05:31.

has died at the age of 83. Blackshaw, who was was born

:05:38.:05:41.

in the Belfast City Marathon. For some it was a race

:05:42.:05:49.

against the clock, for others the main aim was to finish,

:05:50.:05:51.

and along the way raise All in full fancy dress and all

:05:52.:05:56.

hoping to complete a full marathon. Even if we have to carry each other

:05:57.:06:09.

over the line, we'll get there. This is what it's all about -

:06:10.:06:14.

the finishing line here And first over the line this morning

:06:15.:06:25.

was the Kenyan Joel Kipsang in a time of under

:06:26.:06:31.

two hours 18 minutes. It's the third time that the Kenyan

:06:32.:06:36.

has won the Belfast Marathon. There were no local runners

:06:37.:06:41.

in the men's top three, but there Laura Graham, a 30-year-old mum

:06:42.:06:44.

of four from Kilkeel Running for charity in the relay

:06:45.:06:49.

race was Louise James, who recently lost five members

:06:50.:07:03.

of her family in the Another charity runner

:07:04.:07:07.

was Brendan Rodgers, I love coming back home,

:07:08.:07:11.

it's wonderful. Wherever I am in the world,

:07:12.:07:16.

when I meet Northern Ireland people, As for Willy Wonka

:07:17.:07:20.

and the Oompa Loompas, yes, they did it -

:07:21.:07:24.

the full marathon. And in football, Derry City beat

:07:25.:07:32.

Cork City by two goals to one in tonight's quarter final of the EA

:07:33.:07:35.

Sports Cup. The weather forecast now,

:07:36.:07:40.

with Angie Philips. Hello. It may have been a bit

:07:41.:07:51.

fresher today, but lovely to see a bit of bank holiday sunshine. It

:07:52.:07:53.

looks as though we will see more bright weather in the forecast this

:07:54.:07:57.

coming week. A few showers around, I risk of some rain on Wednesday

:07:58.:08:04.

night. Some good dry spells, sunshine coming through at times,

:08:05.:08:06.

and temperatures in the day should be a little higher as the week wears

:08:07.:08:10.

on. For this evening and tonight, still that fresh breeze blowing.

:08:11.:08:14.

We'll continue to see showers edging in. Some good be heavy locally and

:08:15.:08:18.

they will probably be more frequent towards the north and west, but

:08:19.:08:21.

still gaps in between them. When we get those in the countryside,

:08:22.:08:25.

temperatures could get down to 2 degrees. Low enough for ground

:08:26.:08:29.

frost, but most places frost free. More sunshine tomorrow, a few

:08:30.:08:34.

showers during the morning as they continued to run through on the

:08:35.:08:38.

westerly breeze. For much of Britain and Ireland, it is that story of

:08:39.:08:42.

sunshine and showers. The bulk of the showers from central areas north

:08:43.:08:46.

was most frequent to the north-west and feeling kill in the breeze.

:08:47.:08:50.

Relatively few showers further south with fairly light winds of 16

:08:51.:08:53.

degrees in London, probably feeling pleasant. The Northern Ireland,

:08:54.:08:58.

fresher than that. The showers started to ease, so a bright and

:08:59.:09:01.

breezy afternoon to come with temperatures around 12 or 13

:09:02.:09:06.

degrees. A bit of a change on Wednesday, and Atlantic weather

:09:07.:09:09.

front living in. Once it clears, high pressure starts to build

:09:10.:09:13.

towards the end of the week. Wednesday cloudier, windy, with rain

:09:14.:09:16.

likely to move elated in the day. Then mainly dry for Thursday and

:09:17.:09:18.
