An armour piercing rocket and anti-personnel mines

were in a terrorist cache discovered in a wood near Larne at the weekend.

The police say the haul in Capanagh Forest was found

by walkers and that dissident republicans were behind it.

Another terrorist hide was found near Larne a few months ago.

Our North-East reporter Sara Girvin has more.

In Capanagh Forest, a dense wood in the hills above Larne was hiding

what police are describing as one of the most significant terrorist

Today, they released pictures of what had been found.

In three barrels buried in the ground were an

armour-piercing improvised rocket and two anti-personnel mines,

along with pipe bombs, parts for other explosives,

as well as ammunition for an assault rifle.

The police say a number of the devices were

It's the second such discovery in the area in as many months.

Detectives are working to establish whether this terrorist hide

is linked to another, discovered just 6 miles from here,

at Carnfunnock Country Park in March.

Police also put that haul on display, which they said belonged

It included components used to make under-car boobie trap bombs.

Earlier our Home Affairs Correspondent told me how

the arms haul pointed towards dissident republicans.

We have received some more detail about the level of what was in this,

the sheer scale of it. In addition to the armour-piercing rocket which

is of concern for obvious reasons. The police are worried about the

scale of it. I'm told that the component parts like timer switches,

cables and command wires, there were enough of those to make dozens of

bombs and that has surprised the police. They are worried about the

discovery of two mines. These are mines which could have been used

against people or vehicles. I'm told the mines were not home-made, they

were of military grade and that is causing a great deal of concern. The

police were concerned and alarmed by the location of the find by the

quantity of the find and by the quality of what they found.

Hello. Good evening a bit of rain fell on our gardens today and there

will be some more rain at times over the next few days, but a lot of

places will become dry tonight. Just the odd shower in the west. Despite

clearing skies, it won't be a cold night. Quite mild compared to recent

nights. There maybe some mist and low cloud around for a short time

tomorrow, but otherwise, we should see some decent weather. Probably

the best day of the next few. So some sunshine developing tomorrow

morning. One or two showers mainly up towards the north coast, but a

lot of places will be dry and it looks like a lot of fine weather for

the Republic of Ireland too. There is the rain though. It is stuck. It

is slow moving across Scotland and many parts of England and there will

be heavy bursts mixed up as well. So Northern Ireland enjoying some of

the best weather across the UK and Ireland tomorrow. Cooler and fresher

towards the north coast with the breeze coming in off the sea, but

temperatures in Belfast and County Down reaching 16 Celsius. Tomorrow

is looking the best of the next few. Thursday onwards unsettled at times

with low pressure bringing further spells of rain and strong winds.
