There are reports of widespread power cuts in counties Antrim

:00:00.:00:10.

NIE say approxiamately 45,000 homes were left without electricity

:00:11.:00:15.

stretching from Belfast through to Antrim, Ballymena,

:00:16.:00:19.

the Glens of Antrim and across into Maghera.

:00:20.:00:22.

It seems that many have been reconnected within

:00:23.:00:24.

A woman remains in a critical condition tonight after she was

:00:25.:00:30.

struck by a scrambler motorbike on the outskirts of West Belfast.

:00:31.:00:34.

The incident happened at tea-time yesterday in Colin Glen Forest Park.

:00:35.:00:39.

Two teenagers arrested shortly afterwards

:00:40.:00:41.

Colin Glen Forest Park on the outskirts of West Belfast

:00:42.:00:50.

is popular with walkers, runners and dog owners.

:00:51.:00:54.

The woman is a mother of three young children and is understood

:00:55.:00:57.

She was struck by a scrambler bike just before 6pm last night

:00:58.:01:03.

and rushed to hospital before undergoing surgery.

:01:04.:01:07.

The parish community will very much keep that family,

:01:08.:01:11.

that young mother, that wife, in their prayers in a genuine,

:01:12.:01:18.

real way in the hope that she recovers from this incident

:01:19.:01:24.

and that her husband and children are comforted

:01:25.:01:26.

Two boys aged 15 and 17 were arrested last night

:01:27.:01:34.

A local MLA for the area says the woman's family are devastated.

:01:35.:01:41.

We have had a lot of people contacting us wanting their prayers

:01:42.:01:45.

and thoughts to be passed on for the woman and for her wider

:01:46.:01:49.

family, particularly her husband and young children.

:01:50.:01:53.

Community workers say this is not the first major incident involving

:01:54.:01:56.

motorcycles and quad bikes in Colin Glen.

:01:57.:01:59.

Today, a regular user of the park agreed.

:02:00.:02:02.

There are quite a few scramblers around here.

:02:03.:02:05.

Staff around the park try their best to keep them out but the perimeter

:02:06.:02:09.

here is enormous, so there's not much they can do.

:02:10.:02:13.

It was only a matter of time before this happened.

:02:14.:02:16.

It's an amazing resource for dog walkers, families.

:02:17.:02:35.

The Gruffalo Trail is very popular with young families.

:02:36.:02:37.

The officer leading the investigation says

:02:38.:02:38.

using machines like scramblers is often illegal.

:02:39.:02:40.

If you intend to use them on a road or public place,

:02:41.:02:43.

they need the same things as any other vehicle,

:02:44.:02:45.

a driving licence which allows you to drive that class of vehicle,

:02:46.:02:48.

a valid insurance certificate, a test certificate and number plates

:02:49.:02:52.

and lights and all those things that would apply

:02:53.:02:56.

The exception to this is using such a vehicle on private land

:02:57.:03:02.

with the permission of the landowner.

:03:03.:03:05.

There is a woman who remains in a critical condition

:03:06.:03:11.

and I would appeal to anybody who saw any off-road bikes

:03:12.:03:14.

being used in that park around 6pm last night to please come forward

:03:15.:03:20.

Friends say that this evening the women is fighting for her life.

:03:21.:03:30.

There were angry outbursts in court today after a man was charged

:03:31.:03:34.

It followed an alleged assault on the teenager beside a park

:03:35.:03:40.

It was here, on a pathway through waste ground

:03:41.:03:47.

near the Falls Park in West Belfast, that the boy was raped

:03:48.:03:51.

The details, too graphic to broadcast, were read out

:03:52.:03:55.

39-year-old Gerard Scannell, from Ballymurphy Road

:03:56.:04:01.

in West Belfast, was today charged with three counts of rape

:04:02.:04:05.

As he was being led from the dock after being remanded in custody,

:04:06.:04:12.

relatives of the boy yelled abuse at the accused.

:04:13.:04:15.

Earlier a defence barrister said the 39-year-old had consistently

:04:16.:04:20.

denied the allegations when put to him during police interviews.

:04:21.:04:23.

There was no application for bail, but the prosecution said that

:04:24.:04:26.

if an attempt for bail is made, it will oppose it.

:04:27.:04:34.

CCTV cameras are to be installed in the City Cemetery in Londonderry

:04:35.:04:37.

Relatives who've lost loved ones say they're appalled

:04:38.:04:42.

at the anti-social behaviour, which has included

:04:43.:04:45.

Here's our North-West reporter, Keiron Tourish.

:04:46.:04:50.

Pearse Coyle tending to the grave of his late wife Maire.

:04:51.:04:53.

He's one of many people shocked at the recent spate of vandalism

:04:54.:04:57.

and anti-social behaviour taking place in the City Cemetery.

:04:58.:05:00.

People and their family who passed away, they've had

:05:01.:05:10.

a loss and for anybody to come and add to that loss,

:05:11.:05:13.

They believe the council move to install CCTV cameras,

:05:14.:05:22.

and enlist a private security firm to carry out patrols,

:05:23.:05:26.

reflects the lack of respect a small minority have for the cemetery.

:05:27.:05:31.

You don't like it but at the same time it has to be done.

:05:32.:05:34.

This cemetery is a sacred place, it should be left.

:05:35.:05:50.

It's not the first time the City Cemetery has been

:05:51.:05:53.

In January a controlled explosion was carried out on a car

:05:54.:05:58.

after two semi-automatic handguns were found inside.

:05:59.:06:02.

That incident provoked revulsion across the city.

:06:03.:06:06.

The Bishop of Derry says he hopes the installation of CCTV will act

:06:07.:06:11.

as a deterrent to those intent on disrupting a sacred place.

:06:12.:06:16.

It's got to be a community response, so the message goes out that

:06:17.:06:19.

We want to look after the graves of our loved ones

:06:20.:06:25.

and allow those who are grieving to go there and not

:06:26.:06:28.

be afraid of what might happen to them or their graves,

:06:29.:06:32.

so it is a sad situation, but as a community we can

:06:33.:06:36.

rise to the occasion and make sure our graves

:06:37.:06:38.

The council said it wanted to reassure the public that

:06:39.:06:43.

all appropriate steps are being taken to combat

:06:44.:06:47.

anti-social behaviour, and it says the security measures

:06:48.:06:51.

are being renewed on an ongoing basis.

:06:52.:06:58.

The Bank of Ireland has announced that it's to close

:06:59.:07:01.

eight branches here - over 20% of its Northern Ireland network.

:07:02.:07:07.

The towns and villages affected include Antrim,

:07:08.:07:12.

There's particular anger in Belleek - the Bank of Ireland there

:07:13.:07:15.

Our South-West reporter Julian Fowler has been getting reaction.

:07:16.:07:18.

Belleek is busy with business, but soon people here will have to go

:07:19.:07:22.

There used to be three banks in the town.

:07:23.:07:27.

Now one is a pub and another a beauticians.

:07:28.:07:31.

The bank had already cut the number of hours

:07:32.:07:33.

with a counter service only available three days a week.

:07:34.:07:39.

Business owners say they were given assurances when the service

:07:40.:07:42.

was reduced and have accused the Bank of Ireland of breaking

:07:43.:07:45.

We saw them reduce their days for cash a few years ago and we thought

:07:46.:07:52.

that might have reduced any chance of it happening,

:07:53.:07:57.

but it's now clear that was just the test-bed, in hindsight,

:07:58.:08:01.

to see if there was any need for the branch to be there.

:08:02.:08:04.

When the bank was contacted today, businesses were told that even

:08:05.:08:07.

the future of the hole-in-the-wall machine could not be guaranteed.

:08:08.:08:11.

This branch is believed to have around 5000 customers,

:08:12.:08:14.

who will have to travel to Enniskillen to if they want to do

:08:15.:08:17.

It raises issues from security to getting change to making lodgements

:08:18.:08:25.

People with personal accounts, elderly people,

:08:26.:08:30.

this means a two-hour, two-and-a-half-hour round trip

:08:31.:08:34.

That is not acceptable and that people of Belleek

:08:35.:08:38.

will not sit back and take this lying down, we will

:08:39.:08:41.

The eight closures represent 20% of Bank of Ireland's branch network

:08:42.:08:48.

The bank says it's responding to more customers using online

:08:49.:08:51.

and mobile banking, but many in this rural community will miss the more

:08:52.:08:54.

personal way of doing their banking with someone they know.

:08:55.:09:03.

A drug to treat a particular form of muscular dystrophy is to be made

:09:04.:09:06.

available to patients in Northern Ireland.

:09:07.:09:14.

A seven-year-old boy from Limavady is one of those who'll benefit.

:09:15.:09:16.

His parents say they are "over the moon," having campaigned

:09:17.:09:19.

for years for the drug to be offered here.

:09:20.:09:21.

It'll be given to patients suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

:09:22.:09:23.

More from our health correspondent Marie-Louise Connolly.

:09:24.:09:25.

It's been a good day for superheroes,

:09:26.:09:36.

especially for Calum, who lives with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

:09:37.:09:43.

His family learnt today he will be able to access a specialist drug

:09:44.:09:46.

on the Health Service after years of lobbying politicians.

:09:47.:09:53.

It was a very good surprise and hopefully it won't take long

:09:54.:09:57.

to filter through so Calum can receive the drug.

:09:58.:10:01.

Around 70 people here suffer from the strain of muscular

:10:02.:10:05.

dystrophy, a genetic condition which causes the muscles

:10:06.:10:09.

As Calum's parents tell me, taking the drug before the age

:10:10.:10:15.

of ten can prevent a life in a wheelchair.

:10:16.:10:20.

On a bad day he's tired, he can't walk.

:10:21.:10:24.

If he's in the living room and wants to go to the toilet

:10:25.:10:27.

He takes steroids every day, he takes a tablet every day

:10:28.:10:34.

to counteract the steroids, he takes heart medication.

:10:35.:10:38.

Now the science bit - hhow the drug will benefit the lives

:10:39.:10:41.

of just seven local boys who are eligible.

:10:42.:10:48.

Your muscles form a honeycomb structure that lets you walk easily,

:10:49.:10:53.

but with Duchenne muscular dystrophy that fades away and

:10:54.:10:56.

This drug provides protein to give strength to your muscles.

:10:57.:11:14.

The move could cost the Health Service around

:11:15.:11:17.

Now there will be decided on that clinicians can take.

:11:18.:11:23.

If these drugs benefit people they will be provided to them,

:11:24.:11:26.

so that is something I could quickly turn around.

:11:27.:11:28.

With a so-called wonder drug on its way, hopefully it is a bright

:11:29.:11:31.

Now footballer, and Celtic have bounced back from their embarrassing

:11:32.:11:46.

defeat in Gibraltar last week. Tonight they won 3-0 at home.

:11:47.:11:51.

The weather forecast now with Angie Philips.

:11:52.:11:55.

There was a different look and feel to the air today, temperatures well

:11:56.:12:04.

done from yesterday but are more or less back to normal. It will be a

:12:05.:12:07.

more comfortable night for sleeping, not as warm as last night, clear

:12:08.:12:12.

spells and lows around 12 referred them. Tomorrow the weather heads

:12:13.:12:19.

back to normal, we have a weather system off the Atlantic that will

:12:20.:12:22.

bring unsettled conditions through the day but it should be a mainly

:12:23.:12:27.

dry start and some bright spells, especially towards the north and

:12:28.:12:31.

east before the clouds gather. Across the Republic many places have

:12:32.:12:36.

a dry start and a brighter day for Scotland, England and Wales,

:12:37.:12:41.

especially for Scotland and northern England. Some showers around, Sharp

:12:42.:12:48.

or across Wales and the South West, mainly drive for the east and

:12:49.:12:52.

south-east of England. Not as hot as the last couple of days but still

:12:53.:12:57.

pretty warm and humid. That weather system moves in for the app name,

:12:58.:13:02.

bringing spells of rain, lingering into the evening and some of those

:13:03.:13:10.

could be heavy downpours, not very pleasant for the evening rush-hour.

:13:11.:13:15.

That moves away tomorrow night. Friday not looking too bad apart

:13:16.:13:19.

from the odd shower, mainly bright and right, the weekend has variable

:13:20.:13:25.

amounts of cloud, some showers but dry weather as well.

:13:26.:13:30.
