Good evening and welcome to BBC Newsline.

:00:12.:00:12.

The head of the Olympic Council of Ireland,

:00:13.:00:14.

Pat Hickey, has stood down temporarily after being arrested

:00:15.:00:16.

The 71-year-old was detained by the police in Rio De Janeiro.

:00:17.:00:20.

More than one thousand tickets for blue ribbon events were seized

:00:21.:00:23.

last week including some for the Opening Ceremony

:00:24.:00:25.

As head of the Olympic Council of Ireland, mist or Pat Hickey is

:00:26.:00:38.

regarded as the most powerful man in Irish sport. His arrest happened

:00:39.:00:42.

this morning before 7am at his hotel. It is part of a Brazilian

:00:43.:00:48.

police investigation into illegal Olympic ticket sales. Pat Hickey is

:00:49.:00:52.

expected of being involved in a scheme to sell tickets for higher

:00:53.:00:56.

than their face value. Police have confirmed that the 71-year-old was

:00:57.:01:00.

taken to hospital after his arrest as a precaution. And Brazilian

:01:01.:01:03.

police also reported today that when they went to his room, his wife

:01:04.:01:07.

answered the door and said that her husband had already left for

:01:08.:01:11.

Ireland. But after a thorough search of the hotel, they in an adjacent

:01:12.:01:27.

room, believed to belong to the sun. They seized his passport,

:01:28.:01:29.

accreditation and airline ticket. The Irish sports Minister is here in

:01:30.:01:32.

Rio and this is what he had to say today. -- is here in Brazil. I am

:01:33.:01:36.

going home now so that I can discuss with the minister asked eight and

:01:37.:01:38.

the Attorney General, the Cabinet colleagues and officials the best

:01:39.:01:40.

way forward. The inquiry should be envisaged, it is probably no longer

:01:41.:01:44.

relevant, events have overturned that. But we are absolutely

:01:45.:01:49.

determined that we will set up an inquiry to find out what happened. I

:01:50.:01:53.

do not know what the best form of inquiry is. Events are moving too

:01:54.:01:56.

fast. But we will decide that over the next few days.

:01:57.:02:01.

Has decided to temporarily stand aside from his post and all Olympic

:02:02.:02:05.

functions until this matter is resolved. The IOC, the governing

:02:06.:02:09.

body of the Olympic Games, was caught slightly on the hop today but

:02:10.:02:13.

a spokesman did say they will fully cooperate with police. They have

:02:14.:02:15.

faith in the police investigation but until they receive evidence of

:02:16.:02:20.

any wrongdoing, the assumption of his innocence prevails.

:02:21.:02:22.

The Olympic boxing federation is to drop a number of judges

:02:23.:02:26.

and referees for poor decision making in Rio.

:02:27.:02:29.

Meanwhile it's been revealed that boxer Vladimir Nikitin

:02:30.:02:31.

who defeated Ireland's Michael Conlan

:02:32.:02:33.

in controversial circumstances yesterday is out of his

:02:34.:02:35.

Two sisters from Belfast have settled sexual harassment claims

:02:36.:02:42.

Kirstie and Courtney McKeever complained about the behaviour

:02:43.:02:51.

They agreed settlements of 14 and 16 thousand pounds.

:02:52.:02:54.

Kirstie and Courtney McKeever were both teenagers when they started

:02:55.:03:06.

working at a KFC restaurant. But they resigned, saying a mild

:03:07.:03:10.

colleague had sexually harassed them and made working their impossible.

:03:11.:03:17.

-- saying a mild colleague. Courtney spoke about what they had to endure.

:03:18.:03:22.

On a few occasions, both of us came home crying because of the things he

:03:23.:03:25.

said to us. It made me feel like he had power over me because Egypt had

:03:26.:03:30.

just another ruler or shifted ever, every opportunity you got. I just

:03:31.:03:33.

got fed up with that and said it was too much and I just walked out and

:03:34.:03:40.

didn't ever go back. And then I made a complaint and got legal advice.

:03:41.:03:44.

KFC say that after they heard about the allegations they investigated.

:03:45.:03:49.

And then take action. As a result, the employee at the centre of the

:03:50.:03:55.

complaints was dismissed. The equality commission praised the two

:03:56.:03:58.

sisters for speaking out about what happened to them. These were young

:03:59.:04:01.

men like any teenagers, just working a part time job to get money

:04:02.:04:05.

together. They had to leave their jobs. Of unacceptable that sexual

:04:06.:04:09.

harassment still, regrettably, forms part of many working women's lives.

:04:10.:04:15.

The case was settled out of court at a total cost ?30,000.

:04:16.:04:19.

A stretch of road between Belfast and Londonderry is to be upgraded

:04:20.:04:22.

Work is due to begin in October on nine miles of the A6 between

:04:23.:04:26.

As Will Leitch reports the construction will be on two

:04:27.:04:30.

sections of road either side of the bypass at Toomebridge.

:04:31.:04:39.

Rush-hour on this road, even with the bypass nearby. But for 18 days

:04:40.:04:45.

on board users taking this route everyday, shorter journeys are

:04:46.:04:51.

inside. The mock-ups sure the driving experience after work,

:04:52.:04:54.

starting this October, and taking four years and ?160 million. Plans

:04:55.:05:00.

for the schemes date back 13 years but for some indefinite construction

:05:01.:05:05.

schedule is good news. There was a bit of ambiguity during the summer

:05:06.:05:09.

months here that it may fall off the table, so I think that removes any

:05:10.:05:13.

uncertainty and we do now know something is going to start later

:05:14.:05:16.

this year. Of course, we still have to be sure that the contract is

:05:17.:05:19.

there remains the concerns of some of the landowners and make sure

:05:20.:05:22.

whatever accommodation works can be done to accommodate them so that

:05:23.:05:25.

this is a win-win for everybody. Unlike some other road improvement

:05:26.:05:29.

schemes, this one will not be following so much of the existing

:05:30.:05:33.

route. And that means miles of new dual carriageway through open

:05:34.:05:38.

countryside. Early preparatory work before full construction has already

:05:39.:05:39.

begun. Unemployment here's fallen

:05:40.:05:41.

to its lowest level in eight years. Those claiming unemployment related

:05:42.:05:43.

benefits has decreased The jobless total is

:05:44.:05:45.

now just over 36,000. Young people starting university

:05:46.:05:54.

or college this Autumn are being urged to get

:05:55.:05:56.

a vaccine against meningitis. The Public Health Agency says

:05:57.:05:58.

the jab will help protect against meningitis W in particular,

:05:59.:06:00.

a strain that's on the increase. People between the age of 18 to 25

:06:01.:06:03.

are being asked to go If you got it at school,

:06:04.:06:06.

you do not need to get it again. Tomorrow is a very important day for

:06:07.:06:21.

some young people in Northern Ireland, they are getting a liberal

:06:22.:06:25.

fault under very excited about going to college. Last year, they would

:06:26.:06:28.

have received a letter from their GP offering them the immunisation but

:06:29.:06:31.

during exam time I have been too busy to go to get it so I am asking

:06:32.:06:38.

them now to plan for college but also to remember to protect

:06:39.:06:40.

themselves against this serious protection. On your GP to get an

:06:41.:06:42.

appointment to get your vaccine. Just time for a look

:06:43.:06:44.

at the weather prospects now - here's Cecilia Daly

:06:45.:06:47.

with the details. Hello. There will be some men around

:06:48.:06:52.

her neck, warm night as well. Temperatures staying in the team

:06:53.:06:57.

that most places. Humid, mist and more, low cloud around. Mikey around

:06:58.:06:59.

part of the coastline first thing tomorrow. But it will improve as the

:07:00.:07:04.

morning goes on. Some rain to begin with but mid to late morning most of

:07:05.:07:08.

that wet weather starts to ease away northwards. Skies will start to

:07:09.:07:11.

Britain as well. We will see some sunshine breaking through across the

:07:12.:07:13.

Republic of Ireland in the afternoon. Some dry and fairly

:07:14.:07:17.

bright weather with some sunshine across many parts of Britain, but

:07:18.:07:20.

there will be dribs and drabs of rain over parts of Wales and

:07:21.:07:22.

south-west England, which should ease away later in the day. Top

:07:23.:07:27.

temperatures tomorrow, when the sun comes out, 19, 20. We may even see

:07:28.:07:31.

21 degrees summer, so still quite warm and a lot of places will have a

:07:32.:07:35.

dry afternoon, with the best of the weather to come towards the evening.

:07:36.:07:39.

It is all change on Friday. An unusually deep area of low pressure

:07:40.:07:50.

will bring both heavy rain and strong winds at times on Friday. And

:07:51.:07:53.

to begin with this weekend. Fortunately it will eventually

:07:54.:07:54.

improve on Sunday.
