Ten years after Kevin Lavelle was beaten to death at a pub in Banbury,

:01:12.:01:15.

police and his family have renewed their appeal

:01:16.:01:17.

Kevin had become involved in a row while the pub was showing

:01:18.:01:24.

A group of men in Wales are thought to hold vital

:01:25.:01:28.

A decade on and still no answers ` only questions about the murder

:01:29.:01:36.

Father of two Kevin Lavelle was known as Buddy, as his family

:01:37.:01:46.

This footage, released today, was taken when he was in Spain two

:01:47.:01:51.

Mr Lavelle was beaten with a dumbbell at the Cricketers Pub

:01:52.:01:57.

Ceri Noble, from Wales, was charged with the murder, but the court case

:01:58.:02:04.

collapsed when it could not be proved who had dealt the final blow.

:02:05.:02:08.

In 2009, an inquest ruled that Mr Lavelle had been unlawfully killed.

:02:09.:02:11.

A year later, the family unsuccessfully pursued

:02:12.:02:13.

civil damages against three men who were in the pub that night.

:02:14.:02:21.

Kevin was so outgoing and he did all kinds of things with them.

:02:22.:02:25.

James goes to school and listens to his friends say what

:02:26.:02:28.

But James does not have his dad to do that with, does he?

:02:29.:02:35.

The detective who led the initial investigation retired

:02:36.:02:37.

earlier this year, but he has returned to help Thames Valley

:02:38.:02:40.

I'm quite sure if we have to go another five or 10 years it

:02:41.:02:45.

There are people out there who will have been party to discussions with

:02:46.:02:52.

The pub has been converted into flats, but that has not

:02:53.:02:58.

That is because plenty of DNA evidence was collected

:02:59.:03:03.

But what has been lacking is the key eyewitness `

:03:04.:03:08.

someone who saw the person that beat Kevin Lavelle to death.

:03:09.:03:13.

Mr Lavelle has been remembered at the estate

:03:14.:03:15.

They have promised to continue to campaign for a conviction,

:03:16.:03:23.

A man from Aylesbury has been convicted of the rape

:03:24.:03:32.

of a pregnant woman in Norwich more than seventeen years ago.

:03:33.:03:35.

Peter Carroll also attempted to strangle his twenty`year`old victim,

:03:36.:03:38.

leaving her unconscious at the scene.

:03:39.:03:40.

She scratched his face in the attack.

:03:41.:03:42.

Advances in technology police could then use

:03:43.:03:44.

DNA to help convict Carroll after case was reviewed last September.

:03:45.:03:51.

Seventy workers in Swindon are to lose

:03:52.:03:53.

their jobs because the underwear maker Triumph is transferring

:03:54.:03:56.

Menlo has despatched products for Triumph for the past four years.

:03:57.:04:01.

Triumph says it is taking distribution in`house

:04:02.:04:04.

and streamlining its operation, to reduce costs and improve efficiency.

:04:05.:04:09.

Trainee doctors at Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital are learning how

:04:10.:04:12.

to deal with serious injuries by using a mannequin that can talk

:04:13.:04:15.

Its voice supplied by an instructor observing from next door.

:04:16.:04:22.

This is as close to the real thing as it gets.

:04:23.:04:28.

A simulated injury, yes, but with added complications thrown

:04:29.:04:38.

in ` to not only test the clinical expertise of the medical staff,

:04:39.:04:42.

We don?t want them making critical decisions that they have not done

:04:43.:04:50.

before, or have not had the familiarisation

:04:51.:04:52.

One of a number of people assessing the trauma team's performance.

:04:53.:05:04.

The John Radcliffe Hospital is the major trauma centre

:05:05.:05:06.

It is treating more patients suffering from complex

:05:07.:05:11.

And bosses there say this unique programme helps them offer

:05:12.:05:16.

Quite frankly, we should not be practising on patients any more.

:05:17.:05:21.

We should be using these plastic mannequins before we ever go

:05:22.:05:24.

You can imagine that particularly in trauma,

:05:25.:05:30.

where it is very high pressure, it is a very valuable tool.

:05:31.:05:34.

The team here knows that next time the person will be very real and

:05:35.:05:37.

Parents on a growing housing estate in Milton Keynes are concerned that

:05:38.:05:46.

a shortage of primary school places is only going to get worse

:05:47.:05:49.

30 families who live in the catchment area for

:05:50.:05:54.

Oxley Park Academy have been told it is oversubscribed

:05:55.:05:56.

and have been offered alternative schools much further away.

:05:57.:05:59.

While many have lodged appeals, the council says it is facing

:06:00.:06:02.

a difficult challenge ` as Neil Bradford reports.

:06:03.:06:05.

In three months, Zane Sampson starts school for the first time.

:06:06.:06:11.

His parents had hoped he would attend the one closest to home `

:06:12.:06:14.

But they have been told it is oversubscribed.

:06:15.:06:19.

Instead, the four`year`old has now been allocated a place

:06:20.:06:21.

Our family only have one car, which my husband uses to get to work.

:06:22.:06:29.

So that would mean I would have to walk Zane 45 minutes,

:06:30.:06:34.

every day in all weathers, to school and pick him up again.

:06:35.:06:37.

So that is twice in a day, so for a little tot that is quite

:06:38.:06:41.

a long distance to have to walk just to get to school.

:06:42.:06:45.

Zane is not the only child to miss out

:06:46.:06:47.

Around 30 children who live in the catchment area have also

:06:48.:06:52.

Milton Keynes Council says it recognises the disappointment of

:06:53.:06:57.

parents, but says this area presents them with a number of challenges.

:06:58.:07:00.

Firstly, the birth`rate has risen significantly in recent years and,

:07:01.:07:03.

secondly, scope for expansion at the school is limited.

:07:04.:07:06.

Across the town, as a whole, 88% of children were allocated

:07:07.:07:10.

In Oxley Park, a growing estate, Louise Sampson believes,

:07:11.:07:17.

unless a solution is found, there will continue to be

:07:18.:07:21.

Louise says sending her son to an alternative school will have

:07:22.:07:29.

Her only hope now is a successful appeal.

:07:30.:07:33.

Neil Bradford, BBC South Today, Milton Keynes.

:07:34.:07:38.

Sarah Farmer has the weather forecast.

:07:39.:07:40.

We are back in BBC Breakfast tomorrow morning.

:07:41.:07:43.

Hello and a very good evening to you.

:07:44.:07:49.

We do have some heavy downpours in store for tonight,

:07:50.:07:52.

but they are clearing northwards through the next few hours and we

:07:53.:07:55.

should see dry conditions developing as we head into the early hours.

:07:56.:07:59.

Overnight, pretty mild with temperatures

:08:00.:08:01.

Tomorrow we will wake up on a dry note, but there will be

:08:02.:08:07.

It is an improving picture, though, in terms of brightness.

:08:08.:08:12.

We will see some sunny intervals in the afternoon.

:08:13.:08:14.

One or two stray showers here and there, but most of us should

:08:15.:08:18.

Not looking too bad for the middle part of the week either.

:08:19.:08:24.

High`pressure building and some more sunny intervals at times.

:08:25.:08:26.

Now let us have a look at the national weather forecast.

:08:27.:08:32.

of us, but I'll pass you overto Jay. -- over to jay now.

:08:33.:08:36.

Good evening, it was the warmest day of the year. Warm for some, but

:08:37.:08:47.

thundery for others. This line of really intense thunderstorms moved

:08:48.:08:52.

through. Large hail and gusty winds and rain as well. That moved away

:08:53.:08:55.

and now we look towards the south and you can see the rain moving

:08:56.:08:59.

northwards. So let's look at the cloud which is heading our way and

:09:00.:09:02.

some of it does

:09:03.:09:04.
