Good evening from Points West. It's being reported in India that a

multi`million pound deal for the Somerset helicopter maker

AgustaWestland has been cancelled. The government contract for 12

luxury aircraft has been in the balance since allegations surfaced

last year that it may have been won through bribery. The firm, which

makes the helicopters in Yeovil has always denied the claims. Here's

it's just over a fortnight since the Business Secretary was in Yeovil

celebrating a one billion pound deal to supply civilian helicopters to

Norway. But come the New Year and the festive spirit has evaporated a

little. Reports of problems with an older contract. It's not as big a

deal but it's not insignificant It's over the sale of the AW101 to

India. It does come in rescue versions ` as well as military and

James Bond movie versions ` but it's this civilian version that this

contract is for. 12 v`VIP helicopters billed as luxury

transport for Heads of State. The cost to the Indian Government?

Around half a billion pounds. The deal was completed in 2010, but it's

been in question since allegations surfaced last year suggesting it may

have been won through bribery. The Chief Executive of the firm's

Italian parent company was arrested last February over suggestions that

a payment of 30 million euros had been made to officials in the Indian

Defence Ministry. Now sources in the subcontinent say the contract has

been cancelled and the Indian Government is looking to go into

arbitration over the deal. AgustaWestland has always strongly

denied any allegation of bribery or corruption in winning the deal,

calling the claims unsupported and unfounded. This morning they told us

they were aware of the reports coming out of India, but that they'd

had no official communication themselves.

Heavy rain throughout much of the day has continued to cause problems.

The Environment Agency has issued a flood warning at Winford Brook in

Chew Magna and a flood alert for the River Chew from Chewstoke through to

Keynsham. A further flood alert exists for the River Avon here at

Pill and Shirehampton. The worst is expected at high tide this evening.

And there was little New Year cheer for any of our football sides, with

every match postponed due to the weather. This was the waterlogged

pitch at the Memorial Stadium in Bristol this morning, moments after

the referee declared it unfit to play on. The Swindon game was also

called off around lunchtime and Yeovil's tea`time kick off fell

victim a short time later. A Gloucester man who's running

across Canada says he's been beaten up and had his possessions stolen.

Jamie McDonald's attempting to become the first person to run

unaided from coast to coast. But he says he was attacked and had his bag

stolen during New Year's celebrations. The contents included

his wallet, credit cards and video footage documenting his trip.

mum from Trowbridge was working hard instead. Jane May and her partner

Scott welcomed their daughter Molly into the world at 28 minutes past

midnight, as fireworks exploded over the Royal United Hospital in Bath.

She's one of a handful of babies in the West to be born on the first day

of 2014. The seven pound, eleven ounce baby girl was due on Christmas

Day but Mum and Dad are pleased she arrived a week later. Came in at

lunchtime to be induced and was told it could take a couple of days. It

all happened very quickly and we had her in 12 hours. I think it is nice

for her to have her birthday on New Year's Day. Should be out

celebrating New Year's Eve and then to parties in one.

forecast we have some heavy showers working

towards us. Some are quite organised. We do still have a Met

Office yellow warning for rain. As we had through the early hours,

those showers will become a little more scattered. We start tomorrow

with some showers from the word go. They have been driven through on

some boss winds. The best of the sunshine will be in the early

afternoon before cloud thickens up from the West. Top temperatures of

eight or 11 services. Some wet and windy conditions tomorrow evening.

Hello. It is a New Year but it is the same old weather. Flood warnings
