Good evening from Points West. A group of friends from Bristol took

their battle to find a life`saving stem cell donor to a premiership

football match today. Mike Brandon has leukaemia. He's just 29. Today

people attending Tottenham Hotspurs match were encouraged to john the

donor register, in the hope that Mr Brandon can have the transplant he

needs. Zoe Gough reports. Football fans in fancy dress became

potential life`savers as thdy took part in a campaign to find ` donor

for a Bristol man fighting leukaemia. 29`year`old Mike Brandon

had just proposed to his girlfriend when he was diagnosed earlidr this

year. He was given just 60 days to find a stem cell donor to s`ve his

life. They've had to put evdrything on hold for the moment. All of their

efforts are just into trying to a match for Mike and trying to get him

better. So it's had a significant impact, obviously, on their lives.

With young men the likeliest match, Mike's friends today told hhs story

outside a Premier League ground They obliged by being tested for a

match. Others were asked to "Shake for Mike" ` the catch line for the

campaign which has its own social media following. The idea is that

you register with Anthony Nolan you shake your face at cancer. Xou then

share your picture on social media ` Facebook and Twitter ` and nominate

others to do the same thing and you keep the campaign driving bx

nominating others to get involved. It's encouraged more than 6,000

people to register a donor. Only one in 1,000 ends up as a match but the

hope is just one of these stpporters might provide the stem cells that

Mike so desperately needs. Hundreds of youngsters from schools `cross

Bristol, Gloucestershire Solerset and Wiltshire have taken part in

this years Ten Tors Challenge. The event is overseen by the Arly, with

pupils trekking across 55 mhles of moorland on Dartmoor. More than 50

of those taking part dropped out of the challenge with minor injuries `

some having to be airlifted out of the area.

A record number of runners have taken part in the Bristol 10k road

race. 9872 people braved thd showers to tackle the course and rahse money

for charity. Organisers had to apologise after they ran out of

medals and commemorative T`shirts at the end. Almost 400 runners will

have to wait while more are ordered. We base all our calculations for the

equipment, the water, the mddical provision, on the number of

anticipated runners. And I tnder bought by 370 in terms of the

T`shirts. We'll contact our suppliers, get more made and post

them out to them, because wd cross`referenced against our results

system, so we know who everxbody is, so no one will lose out in the end.

has taken third place at thhs year's Badminton Horse Trials. It's a

fantastic achievement for the 30`year`old, who shattered both

elbows in a riding accident last year and had to undergo surgery
