A 30`year`old Canadian rider has been killed at Nunney International

Following the accident compdtitions were cancelled for the afternoon.

Nearly 800 horses were meant to be competing at Nunney International

Horse Trials this weekend at Southfield House near Frome.

But at lunchtime, Jordan McDonald came off his horse

Police say two GPs in the crowd tried to save him.

But by the time the air ambulance arrived Jordan was

already in cardiac arrest, unconscious and not breathing.

He was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath,

This afternoon investigators were trying to piece

They know it was a rotation`l fall ` that's when the horse hits ` fence

somersaulting over it and throwing the rider out of the saddle.

This event attracts some of the top names from the world

of eventing like Zara Phillhps who competed yesterday and Harrx Meade.

The horse trials are expectdd to continue tomorrow.

A new overnight crisis centre opens in Bristol city centre tonight to

cope with a growing number of women who've been made homeless.

It's one of the first in thd country that houses "women only .

Her charity's been gifted a large town house by a property developer.

It is now revamped with 12 beds showers,

but they?re lifting one another up and that is really empowering.

The centre opens four nights a week ` a welcome respite

She normally sleeps in Bristol's car parks.

The reality is that it helps me survive but it?s also comfort,

not just convenience, it's comfort, friendship and conversation.

Carol's using the shelter too as she tries to find somewhere of her own.

She says an all`female shelter is vital for Bristol.

A lot of women are vulnerable and that?s really what they need `

somewhere only for women and not for men cos it's intimidating

Today's official opening coles at a time when the number

of homeless people in Bristol is on the rise, thought to be linked in

part to changes in benefit payments and a shortage of affordabld homes.

A peaceful protest has taken place in Avonmouth as residents try to

get rid of a fly infestation that's plagued them for weeks.

40 people marched through Avonmouth to the source of the problel ` the

bags of waste that have been sat on the docks awaiting shipment abroad.

has been made a Dame in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons says it came

as a complete surprise and her celebrations on receiving the award
