industry. We are back with | :00:00. | :00:08.
Good evening. Rain and strong winds have again been causing problems | :00:09. | :00:14.
across Wales, with emergency services dealing with a number of | :00:15. | :00:17.
incidents of flooding and fallen trees. And there's a warning of more | :00:18. | :00:21.
bad weather to come. Nick Palit reports. | :00:22. | :00:25.
The heavy rain has once again resulted in swollen rivers and | :00:26. | :00:29.
flooding to areas alongside. There's currently a flood warning on the | :00:30. | :00:32.
River Lougher and 20 further flood alerts. Here in Treharris near | :00:33. | :00:37.
Merthyr Tydfil, the Taff was dangerously high. Householders | :00:38. | :00:43.
nearby getting the sandbags ready. In neighbouring Trelewis, rain water | :00:44. | :00:47.
running off fields turned roads into streams. Council workmen battling to | :00:48. | :01:04.
clear blocked drains. The roads were very bad. In Aberdare, flooding on | :01:05. | :01:11.
the towns bypass affected traffic on the roads. It was coming out of the | :01:12. | :01:17.
fields. Rail services were also affected by flooding on the | :01:18. | :01:21.
railways. Arriva trains have been running replacement bus services on | :01:22. | :01:24.
some parts of the Valley Lines. These passengers at Abercynon had to | :01:25. | :01:27.
be brought here by road from Pontypridd. It has been a nightmare. | :01:28. | :01:38.
Freezing cold. It has been a similar story in communities right across | :01:39. | :01:42.
Wales. In the village of Llanberis in Gwynedd, fire crews were called | :01:43. | :01:50.
in to pump out drains and cellars. Elizabeth Jones was particularly | :01:51. | :01:53.
worried. She'd only just moved back into her house after a serious flood | :01:54. | :01:57.
last year. And today, for the third time in as many days, water came | :01:58. | :02:00.
within an inch of breaching her sandbag defences. Deep down, I was | :02:01. | :02:05.
afraid of the water coming in. I phoned the water board first. And of | :02:06. | :02:09.
course, seeing that nothing was being done, I panicked and I phoned | :02:10. | :02:14.
the fire brigade and they came. I was lucky in a way that they came | :02:15. | :02:17.
because it was half an inch from coming into the kitchen. The Met | :02:18. | :02:22.
Office is warning of further bad weather especially on New Year's Day | :02:23. | :02:25.
and with much of the ground already saturated, further localised | :02:26. | :02:27.
flooding seems inevitable. A private family funeral has been held in | :02:28. | :02:31.
Colwyn Bay for the former Wales Office minister Lord Roberts of | :02:32. | :02:34.
Conwy. Wyn Roberts served as Conservative MP for Conwy for 27 | :02:35. | :02:37.
years before joining the House of Lords. He died earlier this month at | :02:38. | :02:41.
the age of 83. David Cameron called him a tireless ambassador for Wales. | :02:42. | :02:47.
A woman whose body was found in a stream during heavy rain in Gwynedd | :02:48. | :02:51.
two days before Christmas has been named. It's thought Susan Hewitt | :02:52. | :02:54.
left her house in Nant Ffrancon in Bethesda to check a water supply. | :02:55. | :02:57.
Police aren't treating her death as suspicious. The North Wales Police | :02:58. | :03:02.
Commissioner has welcomed a change to the way crime is recorded. Police | :03:03. | :03:07.
forces in Wales will start using a new system in the new year. It's | :03:08. | :03:11.
designed to give people more of an idea about why some crimes are not | :03:12. | :03:14.
solved. At the moment around 70% of crimes are recorded as undetected | :03:15. | :03:26.
with no indication as to why. It is vague and ambiguous and in | :03:27. | :03:30.
fact, misleading because it describes all sorts of situations, | :03:31. | :03:36.
including cases where the crime has been detected. And so change is | :03:37. | :03:43.
necessary so that people will know and have a clearer idea of why it is | :03:44. | :03:49.
that a case has not proceeded to court or prosecution. The parents of | :03:50. | :03:52.
a missing man from Newbridge, who's believed to have been murdered, say | :03:53. | :03:55.
they're desperate to find out what's happened to him. 24-year-old Kyle | :03:56. | :03:59.
Vaughan was last seen a year ago today. Paul Heaney reports. | :04:00. | :04:03.
Reminding people they are still looking for their friend, Curzon and | :04:04. | :04:08.
son, who disappeared last year, apparently without trace. It is | :04:09. | :04:17.
exactly one year since Kyle Vaughan was last seen alive. His father says | :04:18. | :04:22.
he has two accept that he has been killed but wants to be able to say | :04:23. | :04:27.
goodbye properly. When you have not had your son around for a year and | :04:28. | :04:31.
then you get him home, it is like all your Christmas is coming at | :04:32. | :04:36.
once. It will be a very sad day but it will be a happy day. A happy day | :04:37. | :04:40.
in the respect that we can put it to bed. We have a grave, a marker, we | :04:41. | :04:48.
can cry and talk to him. We need help from the public to find our | :04:49. | :04:54.
son. Kyle was last seen on 30th of December 2012. His light blue car | :04:55. | :05:05.
had crashed. Two men aged 27 and 25 from Blackwood are still on police | :05:06. | :05:08.
bail after being arrested on suspicion of murder. A 15-year-old | :05:09. | :05:14.
boy has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. | :05:15. | :05:18.
Police say just one piece of evidence from someone who knows | :05:19. | :05:22.
something about why he went missing could help their investigation. What | :05:23. | :05:27.
has happened to him, we do not know why, we do not understand why he was | :05:28. | :05:32.
murdered. All his friends are gutted. Everyone is devastated. The | :05:33. | :05:38.
bull think it will go to sleep. We will not let it go to sleep. It is | :05:39. | :05:46.
our son. It is our family. Everyone wants him home. The family has not | :05:47. | :05:52.
celebrated Christmas this year. They just want a year of torment to end | :05:53. | :05:56.
and lay their son to rest. The number of people who died at work | :05:57. | :06:00.
has fallen by more than half in a year, according to figures from the | :06:01. | :06:03.
Health and Safety Executive. Eight people lost their lives and just | :06:04. | :06:06.
over 1,000 suffered a major injury, compared to 19 deaths and almost | :06:07. | :06:10.
1,200 injuries in the previous year. Despite the drop, the HSE said | :06:11. | :06:13.
businesses needed to make employees' safety their top priority. Newport | :06:14. | :06:19.
County may be forced to play a defender in goal against Oxford | :06:20. | :06:23.
United because of an injury to their only fit goalkeeper. Lenny Pidgeley | :06:24. | :06:26.
hurt his thumb in Sunday's 1-0 defeat at Burton Albion and could | :06:27. | :06:29.
miss Wednesday's League Two match against promotion rivals Oxford | :06:30. | :06:32.
United. Defender Andy Sandell could find himself putting the goalkeeping | :06:33. | :06:33.
gloves on for that match. Time now for the full weather | :06:34. | :06:48.
forecast. Good evening. There is no sign of | :06:49. | :06:53.
the weather settling down. The Jetstream remains very active and | :06:54. | :06:55.
there is more heavy rain heading our way. For New Year's Eve, some rain | :06:56. | :07:00.
and showers but I can promise you some sunshine as well. This is the | :07:01. | :07:06.
satellite which are, in -- satellite picture, this swirl of cloud is | :07:07. | :07:13.
heading our way. This evening, relatively calm and dry but | :07:14. | :07:17.
overnight, the southerly wind will gradually freshen and blow a few | :07:18. | :07:23.
showers are way after opening night. Temperatures staying above freezing. | :07:24. | :07:28.
For New Year's Eve, there will be some rain around in the morning, | :07:29. | :07:33.
heavy in places. That will clear. It will brighten up for a time. Some | :07:34. | :07:36.
sunshine but more rain and showers are expected in the afternoon. If | :07:37. | :07:42.
you are celebrating, I think an umbrella will come in handy. Very | :07:43. | :07:48.
windy. Temperatures around five Celsius in Wrexham. Looking ahead to | :07:49. | :07:55.
New Year's Day, another deep area of low pressure will move in from the | :07:56. | :07:58.
Atlantic. That means another dose of heavy rain, strong winds and gales. | :07:59. | :08:05.
They could be some more flooding in places. Thursday and Friday will be | :08:06. | :08:10.
colder with a mixture of sunshine and showers. Temperatures dropping a | :08:11. | :08:13.
couple of degrees. That is all for me. There's more on our website. | :08:14. | :08:22.
I'll be back at 10:20pm. From all of us here, have a good evening. | :08:23. | :08:38.
Another day off strong winds, heavy rain and flooding. At least things | :08:39. | :08:42.
are | :08:43. | :08:44. |
