Peter, thank you. That's all from the BBC News at | :00:00. | :00:00.
Welcome to Wales Today. Our top story. | :00:00. | :00:08.
A plea from council bosses after the floods - we desperately need help to | :00:09. | :00:12.
pay for repairs. They take their concerns direct to the Welsh | :00:13. | :00:13.
Government. Joanna Hall stabbed 40 times in her | :00:14. | :00:32.
own home. She lived long enough to say who attacked her. This is the | :00:33. | :00:40.
moment police arrested her killer. Stephen Williams is an evil monster | :00:41. | :00:44.
who needs to be locked away so that he can hurt no one else. | :00:45. | :00:47.
Drilling for gas trapped beneath the ground - Wales looks to Lancashire | :00:48. | :00:50.
to question the benefits of fracking. | :00:51. | :00:53.
Also tonight. Michael Laudrup is considering | :00:54. | :00:55.
taking legal action after his sacking from Swansea, as the new man | :00:56. | :01:02.
takes charge at the Liberty. I am just trying to do my best for | :01:03. | :01:07.
the club. I have always done that in the past as a player. | :01:08. | :01:12.
And they're expecting a bumpy ride to Ireland as one player commits his | :01:13. | :01:14.
future to Wales. They're facing a repair bill running | :01:15. | :01:22.
into millions. Today, council concerns about who's going to pay | :01:23. | :01:25.
for the damage caused by winter storms were taken straight to the | :01:26. | :01:29.
Welsh Government. The Natural Resources Minister was visiting the | :01:30. | :01:33.
North Wales coast. But Alun Davies stopped short of announcing any | :01:34. | :01:37.
extra money for repairs. Roger Pinney reports. | :01:38. | :01:46.
A relatively calm day for once. But on the prom there was plenty of | :01:47. | :01:49.
evidence of the damage caused by more than a month of storms. The | :01:50. | :01:54.
Environment Minister was here to see it. Local politicians were quick to | :01:55. | :01:59.
get to the point. Are you likely to be announcing further funding? We | :02:00. | :02:05.
have already announced the funding. ?2 million is not going to even... | :02:06. | :02:18.
The cost of storm damage here has been put at ?5 million. Other | :02:19. | :02:22.
authorities face similar bills. The people know where they think the | :02:23. | :02:27.
money should come from. Who should pay for it? I believe the government | :02:28. | :02:35.
should pay for it. The government. But Wales or Westminster? An | :02:36. | :02:40.
announcement is due. In Natural Resources Wales assessment is coming | :02:41. | :02:44.
but still the big question remains. It is not just here, there is damage | :02:45. | :02:48.
right around the Welsh coastline. If they're going to be any more money? | :02:49. | :02:55.
We have already announced money for emergency repairs and that is | :02:56. | :03:01.
happening at the moment. Engineer is helping to fix alias that have been | :03:02. | :03:09.
damaged over the past month. We are now assessing the damage for the | :03:10. | :03:12.
long-term. Our reserves will not cover this devastation. A band down | :03:13. | :03:20.
Wales, councils are beginning to count the cost of the damage so far. | :03:21. | :03:25.
Pictures of storms lashing the prom in Aberystwyth have appeared on TV | :03:26. | :03:29.
screens and newspapers across the UK. In Ceredigion they are already | :03:30. | :03:37.
looking at a bill in excess of ?1.5 million. And some bus passengers had | :03:38. | :03:44.
a lucky escape here. And this is unlikely to be the end of it. This | :03:45. | :03:48.
who pays the bills business is turning into a political row. Until | :03:49. | :03:53.
today, the Welsh government had promised ?3 million but should the | :03:54. | :03:59.
UK government help pay as well? And what about Europe? UK government | :04:00. | :04:03.
ministers or ministers in Cardiff, who should ask for the money from | :04:04. | :04:09.
Europe? The UK government pledged another ?30 million in England. That | :04:10. | :04:19.
prompted a cry for help from a Plaid Cymru MP. Following the flooding in | :04:20. | :04:29.
2007, the UK government accidents are Solidarity fund. -- accessed. | :04:30. | :04:39.
Isn't the UK government guilty of absolving its moral obligation of | :04:40. | :04:41.
helping of communities in times of crisis? Matters relating to flooding | :04:42. | :04:52.
is a devolved matters. Like the storms, the bills keep rolling in. | :04:53. | :04:57.
Derek will have the latest forecast later on. | :04:58. | :05:01.
A man from Tenby has been found guilty of murdering a woman after | :05:02. | :05:05.
stabbing her 40 times. Joanna Hall was attacked at her home last March | :05:06. | :05:09.
but she survived for three weeks. During that time she was able to | :05:10. | :05:13.
tell the police what had happened. Miss Hall's family described | :05:14. | :05:16.
Williams as an evil monster. Cemlyn Davies reports. | :05:17. | :05:20.
She's a murder victim who was able to tell the police who was | :05:21. | :05:23.
responsible and today Joanna Hall's killer was brought to justice. | :05:24. | :05:27.
Afterwards, a statement was read out on behalf of Miss Hall's family. | :05:28. | :05:36.
Nothing will bring her back or change the keenest things that | :05:37. | :05:41.
Williams did to her. Unfortunately, we now have to live with that for | :05:42. | :05:47.
the rest of our lives. Stephen Williams was an evil monster who | :05:48. | :05:50.
needs to be locked away so that he can hurt no one else in the same | :05:51. | :05:55.
way. Joanna Hall died three weeks after she was stabbed by Steven | :05:56. | :05:59.
Williams at her home in Tenby. The pair were known to each other and | :06:00. | :06:03.
the court heard they had slept together several times. Steven | :06:04. | :06:06.
Williams has never denied being with Joanna Hall that night but the | :06:07. | :06:09.
self-confessed alcoholic said he'd popped to a local supermarket to buy | :06:10. | :06:13.
a bottle of whisky when the attack happened and by the time he returned | :06:14. | :06:17.
to the flat Miss Hall was lying on the floor bleeding excessively. But | :06:18. | :06:22.
the prosecution argued this CCTV footage shows there was already a | :06:23. | :06:25.
significant amount of blood on Williams' clothes when he went to | :06:26. | :06:31.
the shop. The jury was also told his fingerprints were found on a knife | :06:32. | :06:35.
in the apartment and the court heard Williams said to Miss Hall, "Will | :06:36. | :06:38.
you just die?" It took the jury of six men and six women eight and a | :06:39. | :06:42.
quarter hours to reach a majority verdict, where ten jurors agreed | :06:43. | :06:45.
Steven Williams was guilty of murder. Steven Williams showed no | :06:46. | :07:03.
emotion as the verdict was delivered. In the public gallery, | :07:04. | :07:09.
Joanna Hall's mother and sister, who have been in court throughout this | :07:10. | :07:12.
trial, burst into tears and other family members embraced as they left | :07:13. | :07:20.
court. Steven Williams will be sentenced either tomorrow or on | :07:21. | :07:24.
Monday. The family of a prisoner at | :07:25. | :07:27.
Bridgend's Parc Prison was wrongly informed he had died. The security | :07:28. | :07:31.
firm G4S say they will apologise after the incident, which followed | :07:32. | :07:34.
the death of a different prisoner at the start of the month. | :07:35. | :07:39.
The Cardiff Airport shuttle bus service has carried, on average, | :07:40. | :07:42.
less than four passengers per journey since its launch. The Welsh | :07:43. | :07:46.
Government-funded shuttle was used by around 2,800 people per week | :07:47. | :07:53.
between August and January. A review of the service is underway. | :07:54. | :07:58.
Lots of talking from managers past and present at Swansea City today. | :07:59. | :08:02.
Claire's here. Former Swansea City manager Michael | :08:03. | :08:05.
Laudrup says he's taking legal advice after being sacked by the | :08:06. | :08:10.
club. He issued a statement just before his successor Garry Monk's | :08:11. | :08:14.
first press conference. The club captain, who's now been made head | :08:15. | :08:18.
coach, says he would do anything to help the club. And he confirmed he'd | :08:19. | :08:23.
like to do the job on a permanent basis. Here's our sports reporter | :08:24. | :08:31.
Ashleigh Crowter. He has walked into the Liberty | :08:32. | :08:33.
Stadium hundreds of times as a player. But Garry Monk now has a | :08:34. | :08:38.
different job, leading the club out of danger in the Premier League. At | :08:39. | :08:42.
the press conference, he cut a relaxed figure. A man not overawed | :08:43. | :08:48.
by the job in front of him. It is not as if I really had a choice. I | :08:49. | :08:53.
have always said I will be prepared for the club and that is all I have | :08:54. | :08:57.
to be. I will not be anyone else, all I can be is myself. I have been | :08:58. | :09:02.
here for ten years so I know everything about the club. I know | :09:03. | :09:06.
everything about the players. I know everything about the reputation. The | :09:07. | :09:11.
club felt this sort of situation I was probably the best person to take | :09:12. | :09:19.
it on. Managing the club would be one of the proudest things I could | :09:20. | :09:22.
ever do. It is not the way I thought it could happen but it has happened. | :09:23. | :09:28.
But my focus is not on that, it is on the players and this game coming | :09:29. | :09:34.
up. As he smiled, settling into its new seat, it contrasted sharply with | :09:35. | :09:40.
the man he replaced. In a statement, Michael Laudrup said he was deeply | :09:41. | :09:43.
disappointed to have been dismissed, in particular the manner | :09:44. | :09:47.
in which it happened. He said Swansea had given no reasons why | :09:48. | :09:50.
such a hasty and final action was necessary. He added that he was now | :09:51. | :09:55.
taking legal advice but thank the fans for their continued support. He | :09:56. | :09:59.
said it had been an honour to manage their great football club. He also | :10:00. | :10:04.
said that the club have not allowed him to come back to the training | :10:05. | :10:07.
ground to say goodbye to the players and so he was having to do it via a | :10:08. | :10:12.
statement. He described their contribution to the club's recent | :10:13. | :10:16.
successes as fantastic. Garry Monk says he does not know how or why the | :10:17. | :10:21.
Laudrup was sacked. He was just asked to prepare the team for the | :10:22. | :10:28.
game against Cardiff. If it was to be my last part as a player, it | :10:29. | :10:32.
would obviously be because I have done well. Swansea and Cardiff now | :10:33. | :10:39.
have new managers in place. Saturday's derby will be a major | :10:40. | :10:42.
test of their credentials. More sport later on as we turn our | :10:43. | :10:46.
attention to rugby. Back to you, Tomos. | :10:47. | :10:49.
?40 million is being wasted in Wales because of changes to housing | :10:50. | :10:52.
benefit, according to the housing association Wales and West. It says | :10:53. | :10:56.
millions of pounds have been spent adapting homes for disabled tenants | :10:57. | :11:00.
who may now have to move to smaller properties, meaning their original | :11:01. | :11:03.
homes have to be made standard again. Here's our economics | :11:04. | :11:14.
correspondent Sarah Dickins. Judith Parker's house was specially | :11:15. | :11:24.
adapted to her family. A room each, wider corridors and lifting | :11:25. | :11:30.
equipment in the bathroom. It costs ?19,500. Person died three years | :11:31. | :11:35.
ago. She is now deemed to be and occupied. The housing benefit has | :11:36. | :11:42.
been cut and she is struggling. I can't afford to buy anything for | :11:43. | :11:52.
myself. New clothes. These clothes are hanging off me basically. Judith | :11:53. | :11:58.
is now paying just more than ?16 a week to stay there. The report | :11:59. | :12:03.
argues it is a false economy if disabled people moved to a smaller | :12:04. | :12:06.
house which then also needs to be adapted. Its research shows that of | :12:07. | :12:14.
the 9500 homes it manages, 779 are under occupied and of those, 74 have | :12:15. | :12:19.
been adapted for disabilities. That has cost on average ?7,700 for each | :12:20. | :12:26.
house. Wales and West argues that across Wales that adds up to ?40 | :12:27. | :12:32.
million for all the adaptations. The longer it goes on, the more likely | :12:33. | :12:35.
these people are to move and the money that has been spent will be | :12:36. | :12:39.
wasted and they will then demand new adaptations in the new properties. | :12:40. | :12:44.
The housing association has had a reply from the Minister for welfare | :12:45. | :12:48.
reform. He says the bill was spiralling out of control and it had | :12:49. | :12:53.
gone from ?11 billion up to ?23 billion after the last Labour | :12:54. | :12:57.
government and he was also expecting that to go up to ?25 billion by next | :12:58. | :13:03.
year. The UK government also says it has given nearly ?8 million to Wales | :13:04. | :13:07.
for what are called discretionary housing payments to help tenants | :13:08. | :13:11.
struggling to pay rent. Applications go to local councils and Wales and | :13:12. | :13:15.
West argue what is also needed is for disabled people living in | :13:16. | :13:19.
significantly adapted housing to be exempt from what opponents call the | :13:20. | :13:21.
bedroom tax. You're watching Wales Today. Plenty | :13:22. | :13:26.
still ahead. Scraping stamp duty for some homes - | :13:27. | :13:30.
the plan from the Conservatives if they win the next Assembly election. | :13:31. | :13:36.
Police are carrying out investigations at a Cardiff school | :13:37. | :13:39.
whose deputy-head teacher has already admitted hiding a camera to | :13:40. | :13:44.
film children in a toilet. Those offences took place elsewhere. Now | :13:45. | :13:48.
detectives have been given full access to Ysgol Glantaf where he | :13:49. | :13:54.
worked. Live now to our reporter Nick Palit, who's outside the | :13:55. | :14:02.
school. What is the latest? Six days ago, the deputy head of this Welsh | :14:03. | :14:07.
medium secondary school appeared before Cardiff Magistrates' Court on | :14:08. | :14:12.
three charges of voyeurism. Buchanan pleaded guilty to recording another | :14:13. | :14:17.
person doing a private act without their consent for the purpose of | :14:18. | :14:21.
sexual gratification. Those offences involved using a camera that was | :14:22. | :14:27.
hidden in a toilet. Acting on information, police recovered that | :14:28. | :14:31.
camera along with memory sticks with files of five children on it. Those | :14:32. | :14:37.
fences did not take place at this school but in court it was said that | :14:38. | :14:40.
the police investigation was still ongoing. Today, the headmaster at | :14:41. | :14:46.
this school has written to the parents of all pupils to bring them | :14:47. | :14:50.
up to date with the investigation. In his letter, he says that South | :14:51. | :14:54.
Wales peace officers have been given full access to the school to aid | :14:55. | :15:00.
their investigation and they will continue to cooperate fully -- South | :15:01. | :15:07.
Wales Police. He says he knows their respective elation that more charges | :15:08. | :15:11.
will follow but because the investigation is ongoing, he cannot | :15:12. | :15:15.
comment or speculation further. He says that they understand this is | :15:16. | :15:18.
extremely concerning for everyone involved with the school. Mr | :15:19. | :15:22.
Williams has been suspended from his post and will appear before Cardiff | :15:23. | :15:28.
Crown Court on February 21. The Welsh Conservatives say they | :15:29. | :15:31.
would scrap stamp duty for all properties worth up to ?250,000 if | :15:32. | :15:36.
they were in power at the Assembly. It's the first policy set out by any | :15:37. | :15:40.
of the parties on the tax, which is in the process of being devolved to | :15:41. | :15:43.
Wales from Westminster. Here's our Political Editor Nick Servini. | :15:44. | :15:49.
It will be the most high-profile new tax that the Welsh government is | :15:50. | :15:54.
getting its hands-on. The Conservatives have fired the | :15:55. | :15:56.
starting gun on what to do with stamp duty. You don't pay any stamp | :15:57. | :16:04.
duty on properties with up to ?125,000. Between 125000 and | :16:05. | :16:16.
?250,000, you currently pay 1%. Over ?250,000, it rises 3%. The average | :16:17. | :16:25.
property price in Wales is around ?160,000. This house is worth | :16:26. | :16:30.
?250,000 so any buyer would potentially save ?2500. The | :16:31. | :16:36.
Conservatives estimate the policy will benefit around 13,000 people a | :16:37. | :16:41.
year, cost around ?20 million and would pay for it from the housing | :16:42. | :16:46.
budget and savings. We believe home ownership is a key part in driving | :16:47. | :16:50.
entrepreneurial spirit in Wales. We need a more dynamic economy and one | :16:51. | :16:54.
of the biggest dreams people have is owning their own home and having | :16:55. | :16:58.
that foot on the property ladder. Very often collating the last couple | :16:59. | :17:01.
of pounds but the obstacles in the way. Most of the houses on this road | :17:02. | :17:07.
in Cardiff could be affected by the proposal, so what impact could the | :17:08. | :17:12.
policy have on the market yet? If you look at an average of ?160,000 | :17:13. | :17:18.
within the 1% bracket currently, I don't think that will be a | :17:19. | :17:20.
difference between someone getting a mortgage and not getting a mortgage | :17:21. | :17:25.
in what is a rising market. The Welsh government has questioned the | :17:26. | :17:28.
cost of the stamp duty policy and says it will come up with its own | :17:29. | :17:32.
proposals when its plans are fully developed. | :17:33. | :17:39.
Mortimer 's on whether income tax will be devolved to Wales as well. | :17:40. | :17:48.
Partial control of income tax, but they will need to be a referendum. | :17:49. | :17:51.
The stories we brought you last night with comments by Labour's | :17:52. | :17:55.
Shadow Welsh Secretary, very sceptical comments about the | :17:56. | :17:59.
benefits to Wales of this, and he said the first Mr Carwyn Jones | :18:00. | :18:02.
agreed with him and that the first Minister had not asked for income | :18:03. | :18:08.
tax powers but the Conservatives have pointed out that in his | :18:09. | :18:11.
admission to the Welsh office committee of MPs last month, he did | :18:12. | :18:15.
say that income tax powers should be devolved to Wales, subject to a | :18:16. | :18:21.
referendum and subject to changes in funding and the structure of the | :18:22. | :18:26.
tax. The Conservatives, who have spreads on this themselves, are | :18:27. | :18:29.
trying to make the point that there are spreads in the rank of labour as | :18:30. | :18:33.
well. We spoke to Owen Smith tonight and he says that submission should | :18:34. | :18:37.
come to Wales only because at that stage it was evident that the powers | :18:38. | :18:41.
were coming anyway and Welsh government was just being | :18:42. | :18:45.
responsible. The Welsh government says that there is no contradiction | :18:46. | :18:49.
here and the tax in its current model are effectively useless. | :18:50. | :18:57.
A group of Welsh MPs have been visiting a shale gas site in | :18:58. | :19:00.
Lancashire as part of their inquiry into energy. The UK government is | :19:01. | :19:05.
issuing a new round of licenses which allow companies to explore for | :19:06. | :19:08.
oil and gas, but there are economic and environmental concerns. Our | :19:09. | :19:12.
environment correspondent Iolo ap Dafydd met them at a drilling site. | :19:13. | :19:23.
North Lancashire is farming country, full of narrow lanes, dairy | :19:24. | :19:28.
cows and sheep. In between larger towns such as Blackpool and Preston, | :19:29. | :19:33.
there are rural villages, but under these fields they could be billions | :19:34. | :19:38.
of cubic feet of shale gas. Three Welsh MPs preparing a report on | :19:39. | :19:42.
energy came to see how a company drills for shale gas. There is a | :19:43. | :19:48.
potential here for another -- huge number of jobs to be created for an | :19:49. | :19:53.
industry that could improve energy security for the UK and pushed down | :19:54. | :20:01.
energy prices as well. Clearly, the Labour and Conservative party are | :20:02. | :20:05.
absolutely agreed that any fraking that expose has to be done safely. | :20:06. | :20:12.
The company has temporarily stop due to technical reasons but it is one | :20:13. | :20:18.
of the oldest wells and companies enough gas for one megawatt of | :20:19. | :20:22.
power. But some are unconvinced about the potential economic of | :20:23. | :20:27.
drilling for shale gas underground. What surprised me here is learning | :20:28. | :20:31.
how little this one well actually produces. It is one megawatt of | :20:32. | :20:36.
electricity. You will need an awful lot if you are going to produce as | :20:37. | :20:39.
much as the average power station. We have got to look very carefully | :20:40. | :20:42.
at whether it is worth that investment. Every energy provider is | :20:43. | :20:48.
going to claim that it is going to be the next thing since sais bread | :20:49. | :20:51.
and it is going to sort all our energy needs -- sliced bread. We as | :20:52. | :20:59.
politicians and representatives and decision-makers have got to treat | :21:00. | :21:03.
all those claims with an adequate degree of scepticism. In Wales, | :21:04. | :21:09.
protest groups have been formed to oppose the process. The company have | :21:10. | :21:19.
no interest in Wales yet but other companies are exploring gas reserves | :21:20. | :21:22.
around the South Wales coalfield and in north-east Wales. These MPs and | :21:23. | :21:28.
their colleagues are preparing a report on shale gas. The British | :21:29. | :21:32.
George called survey are also doing a report on just how much shale gas | :21:33. | :21:37.
they could be in Wales. That has been commissioned by the Welsh | :21:38. | :21:39.
government and they are respecting it at the end of this month. | :21:40. | :21:48.
Rugby's on the agenda now. Back to Claire. | :21:49. | :21:50.
Wales' four regions are taking legal advice over the nonpayment of | :21:51. | :21:54.
European Cup cash. They were hoping for an ?800,000 instalment | :21:55. | :21:57.
yesterday, but will have to wait another two weeks to see if they get | :21:58. | :22:01.
it. Meanwhile, the Welsh Rugby Union has stepped in with the offer of a | :22:02. | :22:05.
temporary loan. Our sports news correspondent Gareth Lewis is here. | :22:06. | :22:08.
Let's deal with this late money and the regions first of all. What are | :22:09. | :22:11.
they saying? The company which runs the European cup met at a board | :22:12. | :22:15.
meeting yesterday and they decided to postpone any decision on payments | :22:16. | :22:19.
and they did it on their own legal advice because of uncertainty over | :22:20. | :22:23.
the future of the tournament. Wales's regions and the English | :22:24. | :22:27.
clubs are backing a different European cup edition next season. | :22:28. | :22:32.
Understandably, the regions, it is understood, have concerns about | :22:33. | :22:36.
paying their wages this month. ?800,000 is an awful lot of money. | :22:37. | :22:44.
What are the WRU offering? They are considering offering a loan to cover | :22:45. | :22:47.
any shortfall, if the regions request one. The union have said | :22:48. | :22:52.
there are no strings attached. The regions are unlikely to take up that | :22:53. | :22:56.
request as things stand. They want to know more about what security | :22:57. | :22:59.
they would need to put up and more on the terms of that loan. They may | :23:00. | :23:04.
feel as well that a loan is a sticking plaster. The next board | :23:05. | :23:14.
meeting is on February 19 way a decision will be made on this | :23:15. | :23:18.
money. The regions have had the latest instalment of money this week | :23:19. | :23:22.
for playing in the Pro12, which is the lead we watch on BBC and S4C on | :23:23. | :23:28.
Fridays and Saturdays. But Wales centre at Scott Williams is staying | :23:29. | :23:33.
put. With all the uncertainty, another one decides to stay in | :23:34. | :23:37.
Wales. The young Scarlet centre had an offer of a central contract from | :23:38. | :23:42.
the Welsh Rugby Union and an offer from the Scarlets and he has opted | :23:43. | :23:47.
to sign for his region. He scored a great fright on the weekend against | :23:48. | :23:51.
Italy. Against the Six Nations in mind, there will be a lull tomorrow | :23:52. | :23:55.
and over the weekend but next week Brace yourself for a formal | :23:56. | :23:58.
announcement from the regions that they will look to join the initial | :23:59. | :24:04.
Premiership next season. -- English Premiership. | :24:05. | :24:06.
Scott and his Wales team-mates have arrived in Dublin ahead of their Six | :24:07. | :24:10.
Nations clash with Ireland on Saturday. Wales, led by Sam | :24:11. | :24:15.
Warburton, say they are under no illusions about how difficult the | :24:16. | :24:18.
challenge will be. Ireland have named their team today. They welcome | :24:19. | :24:21.
back captain Paul O'Connell and centre Gordon D'Arcy. Wales left | :24:22. | :24:23.
their base earlier, not looking forward to a bumpy flight in the | :24:24. | :24:26.
difficult weather conditions, but relieved not to be catching a ferry. | :24:27. | :24:30.
A flight is better than going over the Irish Sea at the moment. They | :24:31. | :24:35.
are all fit and well. Just looking forward to getting out there now. It | :24:36. | :24:40.
has been a long week since the Italy game. This game has been very much | :24:41. | :24:45.
in the forefront of our minds and it is going to be a hell of an | :24:46. | :24:52.
occasion. Something the coaches and players are really looking forward | :24:53. | :24:53.
to. Well, tomorrow night we'll have all | :24:54. | :24:56.
the build up to Wales against Ireland. Many fans are making the | :24:57. | :24:59.
trip to Dublin this weekend despite the atrocious weather. Spare a | :25:00. | :25:02.
thought for these supporters, cycling to Dublin for charity. Among | :25:03. | :25:05.
them, former Wales International Colin Charvis, who says the group | :25:06. | :25:08.
are committed to making the 200 mile journey despite the bad weather. | :25:09. | :25:18.
Let's get the weather picture. Any let up in the wind and rain over the | :25:19. | :25:20.
next few days? I can promise a window of better | :25:21. | :25:26.
weather tomorrow but I'm afriad it's not going to last. Another winter | :25:27. | :25:30.
storm is on the way. Warnings are in force. One for heavy rain, plus an | :25:31. | :25:34.
amber warning of severe gales for southern counties tomorrow night and | :25:35. | :25:37.
Saturday. There are also two flood warnings in force. Tonight, more | :25:38. | :25:40.
rain and showers. Some heavy rain too. The wind picking-up as well, | :25:41. | :25:46.
becoming fresh to strong with temperatures staying above freezing. | :25:47. | :25:48.
Tomorrow's chart shows a ridge of high pressure over Wales for a | :25:49. | :25:52.
change. But more trouble is brewing over the Atlantic. This next big low | :25:53. | :25:56.
is heading our way. Here's the picture for 8.00am in the morning. | :25:57. | :26:00.
Light rain in the north-east. Snow on high ground. Elsewhere will be | :26:01. | :26:03.
dry. Clear in Pembrokeshire with sunshine. Windy on the coast and | :26:04. | :26:08.
feeling chilly. During the day, the whole country will become dry. | :26:09. | :26:11.
Brighter too with sunshine for a while. However, cloud and a few | :26:12. | :26:14.
showers will spread from the south-west during mid to late | :26:15. | :26:19.
afternoon. In Carmarthenshire tomorrow, it will be much drier than | :26:20. | :26:24.
today. Tomorrow evening the weather will go downhill again. Another | :26:25. | :26:27.
spell of heavy rain. Strong to severe gale force winds as well. The | :26:28. | :26:31.
rain clearing to showers after midnight. Saturday will be very | :26:32. | :26:35.
windy. The south and west coast bearing the brunt of the gales. More | :26:36. | :26:40.
rain and heavy showers as well. Hail and thunder possible. Just a few | :26:41. | :26:44.
sunny intervals. And very blustery in Swansea for the football. Not | :26:45. | :26:48.
quite so windy in Dublin for the rugby but be prepared for heavy | :26:49. | :26:52.
showers. The tides this weekend not so high but big waves are likely, | :26:53. | :26:56.
especially in the south-west. There is a risk of more flooding on parts | :26:57. | :27:00.
of the coast, especially in Pembrokeshire with strong onshore | :27:01. | :27:04.
winds. Sunday will be windy with sunny intervals and blustery | :27:05. | :27:07.
showers. Perhaps more persistent rain in the north. The wind easing | :27:08. | :27:12.
later. Calmer on Monday but low pressure will bring more rain and | :27:13. | :27:15.
strong winds on Tuesday. Turning colder next week as well with wintry | :27:16. | :27:17.
showers by Wednesday. The main news again from the BBC. | :27:18. | :27:29.
William Roach has been found not guilty of sex offences. He was | :27:30. | :27:33.
cleared of two counts of rape and four counts of indecent assault. We | :27:34. | :27:36.
will have the latest for you at 8pm. Have a good evening. | :27:37. | :27:42. |
