Welcome to Wales Today. Our top story. | :00:00. | :00:08.
Onwards and upwards - Cardiff Airport sees a 9% increase in | :00:09. | :00:11.
passengers since its take-over by the Welsh Government last year. | :00:12. | :00:16.
Tonight, we're airside to talk to passengers - can Cardiff Airport | :00:17. | :00:19.
really return to the glory days? Our other headlines. | :00:20. | :00:22.
Standing in the way of emergency crews - the big increase in attacks | :00:23. | :00:26.
on firefighters. Lessons in tax and APR - do we need | :00:27. | :00:30.
to better prepare ourselves for handing money in the real world? | :00:31. | :00:38.
Good evening. In tonight's sport. And how to deliver more players like | :00:39. | :00:42.
this - the Welsh Rugby Union's plan to inspire children to stick with | :00:43. | :00:43.
rugby in school. Good evening. It's take off at | :00:44. | :01:05.
Cardiff Airport. Tonight, new figures show a rise in the number of | :01:06. | :01:09.
passengers since it was bought by the Welsh Government for ?52 million | :01:10. | :01:13.
a year ago. The figures, obtained exclusively by BBC Wales, reveal the | :01:14. | :01:16.
number of people using the airport went up by more than 9% between | :01:17. | :01:19.
April last year and February this year. That means more than a million | :01:20. | :01:24.
passengers using the airport, compared to 942,000 the year before. | :01:25. | :01:29.
Here's our business correspondent Brian Meechan. | :01:30. | :01:37.
Millions of pounds are being spent on a make over at Cardiff airport. | :01:38. | :01:41.
BBC will has been given exclusive access. But well facilities are | :01:42. | :01:55.
important and -- success is based on what people Winter Bay. We use it | :01:56. | :02:02.
quite regularly. It could do with being a bit bigger. Maybe more | :02:03. | :02:07.
accessible. The Welsh government says the increase in passengers | :02:08. | :02:12.
proves it was the right decision to buy the airport. The figures confirm | :02:13. | :02:22.
what we always thought, that the Borders have a future in the right | :02:23. | :02:27.
hands. This is a new carrier operating from here. It is one of | :02:28. | :02:31.
the reasons Cardiff is attracting more passengers flying to an | :02:32. | :02:34.
increasing number of destinations. But there is still a lot of ground | :02:35. | :02:40.
to make up to reach the peak of over 2 million seven years ago. These | :02:41. | :02:43.
passengers arrived from Amsterdam this afternoon. We only live five | :02:44. | :02:50.
minutes away. Things are improving greatly. Cardiff is now flying to | :02:51. | :02:56.
more than 40 destinations from Barcelona to Barbados, but experts | :02:57. | :03:02.
say there are challenges ahead. One of the key things Cardiff airport | :03:03. | :03:07.
can do is to reinforce a local brand identity and that can take a number | :03:08. | :03:10.
of forms but one of the things we are seeing across the country is | :03:11. | :03:14.
that people don't have a good word to say about airport. They are | :03:15. | :03:17.
something you have to do in doing rather than enjoy. If Cardiff can | :03:18. | :03:22.
articulated a local brand identity, that would be potentially very | :03:23. | :03:26.
useful. That is what Liverpool has done with the John Lennon airport | :03:27. | :03:29.
and the Scottish airport -- government has followed the Welsh | :03:30. | :03:34.
league, buying an airport. The decision to buy the airport was not | :03:35. | :03:41.
universally welcomed. Considering that the trend and fortunately for | :03:42. | :03:45.
the airport was down, down, down, nine present is to be welcomed but | :03:46. | :03:49.
it is nowhere near where the figures were before. We welcome any growth | :03:50. | :03:54.
at Cardiff airport. We are keen it should be a proper international | :03:55. | :03:58.
airport but that does mean proper investment. It has also got to be | :03:59. | :04:06.
transparent. After years of decline, the airport may be back on the right | :04:07. | :04:10.
course but the real question is whether it can continue to grow back | :04:11. | :04:13.
to its peak of 2 million passengers. And Brian Meechan is at the airport | :04:14. | :04:20.
tonight. This is an example of some of the | :04:21. | :04:25.
work that is being done here. Contractors will be working until | :04:26. | :04:28.
10pm tonight trying to get ready with the new departure hall which is | :04:29. | :04:32.
going to be opened towards the end of this week. There is also the cafe | :04:33. | :04:37.
where passengers can come and have a copy before they fly off somewhere. | :04:38. | :04:45.
85,000 passengers have, more passengers have flown from Cardiff | :04:46. | :04:49.
since the Welsh government has bought it. Let's talk to the Chief | :04:50. | :04:53.
Executive. How has this increase come about? It has come about after | :04:54. | :04:58.
whipping with existing airlines and new airlines. We have seen growth | :04:59. | :05:06.
from existing carriers. -- working with. We have seen growth across | :05:07. | :05:20.
that but we have also been working with new airlines. They have been | :05:21. | :05:27.
growing. And we have added services with them to Glasgow, Edinburgh, | :05:28. | :05:31.
with improved frequency for the business travellers. We have also | :05:32. | :05:37.
been working hard on the facilities. And also some of these services. | :05:38. | :05:47.
Wi-Fi is free. The trolleys are free. Do you think this is | :05:48. | :05:56.
sustainable? Absolutely. It is a small start but we have got much | :05:57. | :06:00.
more to do. But we have got a clear plan and a strategy. We want to | :06:01. | :06:05.
recover our position, back to those 2 million passengers that we had a | :06:06. | :06:08.
few years ago and beyond that as well. Very quickly, will we see | :06:09. | :06:16.
transatlantic flights? I think in the longer term we will see some | :06:17. | :06:21.
potential long haul flights. The US is a possibility, the Middle East. | :06:22. | :06:25.
Those are going to be targets as we move forward. That is the message | :06:26. | :06:31.
from the airport. These increases are something that is being welcomed | :06:32. | :06:37.
by many people, including in the political spectrum, but there is | :06:38. | :06:43.
still a lot more work to do. Around 24 firefighters are dealing | :06:44. | :06:46.
with a large grass fire near Merthyr Tydfil. The fire, near the | :06:47. | :06:50.
Reservoir, has been burning for several hours and has spread around | :06:51. | :06:54.
six miles. South Wales Fire Service says it's being driven by high | :06:55. | :06:58.
winds. Our reporter, Nick Palit, is there with the latest. | :06:59. | :07:15.
You can probably see what you think is a dark cloud. That is not a storm | :07:16. | :07:21.
cloud but smoke coming from the blaze. We could not get to the site. | :07:22. | :07:27.
It is inaccessible. But they have been fighting the fire since | :07:28. | :07:33.
mid-morning. They have been hampered by strong winds and they say it has | :07:34. | :07:37.
stretched over a vast area of grassland. Earlier I went up to the | :07:38. | :07:42.
site and spoke to the incident commander, Matt Jones. There is a | :07:43. | :07:49.
fire front which is measuring between eight and ten kilometres | :07:50. | :07:51.
which has been burning for five hours. We have had a number of | :07:52. | :07:57.
resources dealing with the incident but our main priority is to stop the | :07:58. | :08:01.
fire getting into the forestry and protect the habitat. Do we know if | :08:02. | :08:07.
this fire might have been started deliberately? | :08:08. | :08:14.
At the moment it is too early to speculate. But on this weekend | :08:15. | :08:22.
alone, they have tackled 54 fires and many of those were started | :08:23. | :08:26.
deliberately. Standing here, the heavy smell of smoke hangs heavy in | :08:27. | :08:33.
the air. It is so strong. And there are at least four other smaller | :08:34. | :08:37.
fires like this so it is certainly this time of year when people get | :08:38. | :08:41.
out into the wilderness and fires are either started accidentally or | :08:42. | :08:46.
maliciously. When this happens, it takes their resources away from what | :08:47. | :08:50.
they need to be doing and it could put lives at risk because they may | :08:51. | :08:53.
not be able to save people in burning houses and buildings. | :08:54. | :08:57.
This fire has come on the day that the Fire Service has been warning | :08:58. | :09:00.
that they are increasingly come under attack when they get called | :09:01. | :09:04.
out. South Wales Fire and Rescue Service says it's seen a 16% | :09:05. | :09:07.
increase in the number of incidents in less than two years. Caroline | :09:08. | :09:11.
Evans reports now on what they're doing to tackle what they see as a | :09:12. | :09:16.
worrying trend. This was bonfire night. The Fire | :09:17. | :09:23.
crews called up over fears this bonfire was getting out of hand say | :09:24. | :09:27.
they were confronted by a gang of youths who blocked their path. They | :09:28. | :09:31.
took the decision to retreat and were unable to deal with the fire. | :09:32. | :09:35.
It was one of the cruise from this fire station that was called up that | :09:36. | :09:41.
night. Today, I was told how such incidents are becoming more common. | :09:42. | :09:47.
There is an upward trend in firefighters coming under attack and | :09:48. | :09:50.
we are trying to raise awareness with the community to nip this in | :09:51. | :09:54.
the bud and prevent it from happening. Only last night, we had a | :09:55. | :09:59.
crew come under attack and they were prevented from going to an incident | :10:00. | :10:03.
in the Blackwood area. And on Friday evening, our crews were verbally | :10:04. | :10:09.
abused. This is a worrying trend and we are trying to do all we can in | :10:10. | :10:13.
conjunction with our partners the police to prevent this happening. | :10:14. | :10:18.
This is how the fire service is taking steps to combat the problem. | :10:19. | :10:23.
We have a camera in the front and there is a camera there to capture | :10:24. | :10:27.
one side and there is also a camera yet to capture the driver's side. | :10:28. | :10:33.
There is also one at the rear to capture anything that happens from | :10:34. | :10:37.
the rear. So you can see right the way around? It gives us a 360 | :10:38. | :10:43.
capture of anything that goes on around the engine. All fire engines | :10:44. | :10:49.
are now fitted with these cameras and they are now using DNA | :10:50. | :10:54.
technology to. Sergeant Mike Adams has been seconded to the fire | :10:55. | :10:59.
service to help investigations. One of the tools I have with them is | :11:00. | :11:04.
these swabs which I can use to swap their hands or their clothing, | :11:05. | :11:08.
defending on whether they have been spat at, resealed, and it can be | :11:09. | :11:14.
analysed frenziedly. If the person is known to the police, their name | :11:15. | :11:18.
will be on the system and they can be identified. -- forensic league. | :11:19. | :11:27.
As we were filming the station, the fire engine got a call-out. It is | :11:28. | :11:34.
what they are trained for and despite the risks something they | :11:35. | :11:37.
would rather face than hostility from -- people they go to help. | :11:38. | :11:42.
Following these events, one person has been prosecuted and two people | :11:43. | :11:46.
are expected to appear in court charged in connection with the | :11:47. | :11:48.
incident. A leading Conservative MP says he | :11:49. | :11:51.
thought allegations that the Swansea born MP Nigel Evans had sexually | :11:52. | :11:54.
assaulted a young man were out of character. Michael Fabricant, the | :11:55. | :11:57.
vice chairman of the Conservative Party, told Preston Crown Court he | :11:58. | :12:00.
first heard accusations against the former Commons Deputy Speaker in | :12:01. | :12:04.
2009. Mr Evans denies rape, indecent assault and sexual assault. | :12:05. | :12:11.
A female teacher from Newport has admitted a series of sexual offences | :12:12. | :12:15.
against a teenage pupil. 26-year-old Kelly Ann-Marie Burgess, seen here | :12:16. | :12:18.
in the brown coat, appeared before magistrates at North Somerset | :12:19. | :12:21.
Courthouse in Weston-Super-Mare. She admitted sexual activity with a boy | :12:22. | :12:26.
aged 16 and 17 last year. The offences took place in north | :12:27. | :12:29.
Somerset when Burgess was in a position of trust in relation to the | :12:30. | :12:31.
boy. A choir director who was unfairly | :12:32. | :12:35.
dismissed from her job with St.Giles' Church in Wrexham has been | :12:36. | :12:38.
awarded substantial compensation. Jacqui Blore was made redundant last | :12:39. | :12:41.
August and many choir members went on strike in protest. The church | :12:42. | :12:45.
council had been accused of failing to follow the correct procedure in | :12:46. | :12:49.
dismissing Ms Blore. An escalating row between the Welsh | :12:50. | :12:53.
and UK governments is casting doubt over who will pay for a major | :12:54. | :12:56.
upgrade to the railways in South Wales. First Minister Carwyn Jones | :12:57. | :13:01.
says the Prime Minister told him the UK government will fund the | :13:02. | :13:04.
electrification of the main line to Swansea and the Valleys Lines. But | :13:05. | :13:08.
the UK government insists ministers in Cardiff had agreed to bear the | :13:09. | :13:12.
costs of electrifying the Valleys Lines. Let's talk to our political | :13:13. | :13:24.
reporter. Dan, explain the background to this? The first | :13:25. | :13:30.
Minister was at pains to say that the Welsh economy is moving in the | :13:31. | :13:33.
right direction but to keep that momentum going he says we need to | :13:34. | :13:37.
invest in the railways, in particular the Valleys Lines. The | :13:38. | :13:41.
railways that serve commuters coming in and out of Cardiff. There is a | :13:42. | :13:45.
commitment to a commitment to an electrified those lines by 2024. The | :13:46. | :13:50.
first Minister said that is not devolved, the UK government needs to | :13:51. | :13:54.
pay. He says the Prime Minister has told him that the UK government will | :13:55. | :14:00.
fund that electrification. The UK government says it has an agreement | :14:01. | :14:03.
dating back to 2012 on how this will be funded. If you are not fully | :14:04. | :14:07.
familiar with the jargon of the railway industry, understanding that | :14:08. | :14:12.
agreement is a little bit difficult but the first Minister is clear this | :14:13. | :14:16.
is the UK government's responsibility and they need to find | :14:17. | :14:21.
the net traffic. It always is a big question about a big project. I have | :14:22. | :14:27.
seen an exchange of letters from the summer of 2012 between the UK | :14:28. | :14:32.
government's then Transport Secretary, she says to the Welsh | :14:33. | :14:39.
government there is a deal. The Welsh Secretary David Jones, I have | :14:40. | :14:44.
spoken to him this afternoon, it is fair to say he is very angry. He | :14:45. | :14:48.
says Carwyn Jones has an agreement with the UK government on funding | :14:49. | :14:52.
all of this and he can't back out of it now. There have been rows between | :14:53. | :14:56.
this place and Westminster before about things like how much power | :14:57. | :15:01.
does the assembly have but this one is different. All sides agree this | :15:02. | :15:05.
is a hugely important project to the economy but on the crucial issue of | :15:06. | :15:09.
who is going to cough up and make it happen, they are miles apart | :15:10. | :15:12.
tonight. Much more to come before seven | :15:13. | :15:24.
o'clock. How much time should schools devote | :15:25. | :15:29.
to teaching personal finance? According to one Assembly Member, | :15:30. | :15:33.
more than they are at the moment. Plaid Cymru says a survey it has | :15:34. | :15:37.
carried out shows big variations in the time schools across Wales spend | :15:38. | :15:40.
on the subject. The party wants changes but the Welsh Government | :15:41. | :15:43.
insists that isn't necessary. Here's Roger Pinney. | :15:44. | :15:50.
Getting to know your VAT from your APR. And getting it wrong can prove | :15:51. | :15:55.
costly. Should schools put more effort into giving pupils at least a | :15:56. | :16:05.
grasp of it all? At this school, they seem to be doing more than | :16:06. | :16:08.
most, according to figures obtained by Plaid Cymru. But the head of | :16:09. | :16:14.
maths once studied accountancy. Today, this class of 16-year-olds | :16:15. | :16:19.
was learning about taxation. That is part of the curriculum. What about | :16:20. | :16:24.
the rest of it? Why do you think taxation is important to | :16:25. | :16:32.
understand? I believe that in the future it will help us control what | :16:33. | :16:39.
we do with our money. When you take a loan out, if you can't pay it | :16:40. | :16:42.
back, people get into more difficulty. I think it is very | :16:43. | :16:48.
important that they understand more about what is facing them when they | :16:49. | :16:51.
leave school, when they leave college. From a personal point of | :16:52. | :16:57.
view, when I left school and went to university, I had no idea what was | :16:58. | :17:02.
ahead of me with regards to student loans and credit cards and | :17:03. | :17:07.
everything was available for me. Here students also have a say in the | :17:08. | :17:10.
running of the school canteen by budgeting and price setting. Top | :17:11. | :17:16.
marks for the school. But according to Plaid Cymru, the teaching of | :17:17. | :17:19.
personal finance is patchy across Wales even though it is part of the | :17:20. | :17:24.
national curriculum. One of its Assembly Members is introducing a | :17:25. | :17:27.
bill calling for more effort. But teachers warn of adding to a more -- | :17:28. | :17:35.
already congested timetable. By putting it into various subject | :17:36. | :17:38.
areas and planning, it is very important and it can be done. What | :17:39. | :17:43.
is happening at the moment is that it is very sporadic across Wales and | :17:44. | :17:48.
teachers want to see more investment in this subject, considering that | :17:49. | :17:52.
they are the future of Wales. We need the Welsh economy to develop | :17:53. | :17:55.
and unless our young people have the skills, they will not be able to | :17:56. | :18:00.
achieve that. But how should it be done? The Welsh government says more | :18:01. | :18:06.
bureaucracy is not the answer. Before the sport, a quick word about | :18:07. | :18:10.
tomorrow. There's six months to go until Scotland goes to the polls in | :18:11. | :18:14.
the referendum on independence. I've been to Motherwell, a former coal | :18:15. | :18:17.
and steel town that has much in common with places like Ebbw Vale, | :18:18. | :18:21.
to find out wide independence is on the agenda there and not here. Much | :18:22. | :18:26.
more on that and what a Yes vote in Scotland might mean for us. That's | :18:27. | :18:29.
tomorrow nights' Wales Today. Rugby and football now. Here's | :18:30. | :18:32.
Claire. Good evening. I bring you news of | :18:33. | :18:38.
peace in European rugby. Tonight, we are on the verge of an agreement for | :18:39. | :18:43.
a new European Cup. The Six Nations Committee has been meeting in Paris | :18:44. | :18:46.
and are just putting final touches to the document that they are hoping | :18:47. | :18:50.
to officially sign this week. Our correspondent Gareth Lewis is here. | :18:51. | :18:58.
How optimistic are we? It looks like they will sign it this week. They | :18:59. | :19:02.
might have done it already. They have had a few problems translating | :19:03. | :19:07.
it into Italian, apparently. We know there will be more money for the | :19:08. | :19:11.
Welsh regions, ?1 million extra each season, and the Six Nations | :19:12. | :19:14.
committee will take up the running of the tournament. The clubs, | :19:15. | :19:20.
crucially, will have far more say on commercial matters. It will bring to | :19:21. | :19:24.
an end to years of bitter infighting that England clubs started by | :19:25. | :19:29.
breaking away. Wales's clubs got on board as well. At one point there | :19:30. | :19:33.
was discussion of an Anglo Welsh league. The region is pitted against | :19:34. | :19:41.
the Welsh Rugby Union. Also, the TV deal now looks sorted as well. Sky | :19:42. | :19:47.
and BT have different deals for different European competitions. | :19:48. | :19:50.
There is only one European cup on the table now and they look to have | :19:51. | :19:56.
found an agreement to broadcast it. It does look like we are moving | :19:57. | :20:00.
forward. What does it mean for the regions? More many, but it will be | :20:01. | :20:06.
more difficult to qualify. The top tier European cup will be smaller, | :20:07. | :20:11.
only 20 teams, and only seven from the Pro12. As it stands, the Ospreys | :20:12. | :20:17.
will qualify as the top Welsh side, because the topside from each | :20:18. | :20:20.
country will go through, and the three others will go through -based | :20:21. | :20:27.
Julie on merit. Currently, we would have the Ospreys and the Scarlets in | :20:28. | :20:30.
a top tier competition and the Blues and the Dragons in the second year. | :20:31. | :20:34.
Let's hope they find an Italian translator. | :20:35. | :20:37.
The Welsh Rugby Union has announced plans which it hopes will keep more | :20:38. | :20:41.
teenagers playing the game into adulthood. At the moment, almost a | :20:42. | :20:45.
third of children who play junior rugby give it up by the age 14. But | :20:46. | :20:51.
the WRU now wants schools to play a bigger role in keeping them | :20:52. | :20:56.
involved. Ashleigh Crowter reports. Their enthusiasm is infectious and | :20:57. | :21:00.
their skills are not bad either. The year rate team from Newport high | :21:01. | :21:03.
school enjoys a new experience this afternoon, playing a touring side | :21:04. | :21:09.
from the United States. Rugby plays a key role in the life of the school | :21:10. | :21:13.
and these pupils will be given every chance to play it as they get older. | :21:14. | :21:18.
It is the sort of model the Welsh Rugby Union would like to see | :21:19. | :21:21.
repeated at schools all across the country. We get full access to kids | :21:22. | :21:27.
in school and they can get too close. At school every kid is | :21:28. | :21:32.
willing to play. It is important to us. I think they cherish that. The | :21:33. | :21:43.
number of children playing junior rugby in Wales has never been | :21:44. | :21:48.
higher. By the age of 14, 30% have dropped out of the sport. That is | :21:49. | :21:52.
leaving many clubs short of players at youth and adult level. But this | :21:53. | :21:58.
man wants to change all that. Former England World Cup winner, Josh | :21:59. | :22:03.
Lewsey, is now the WRU's head of rugby, responsible for all levels | :22:04. | :22:06.
apart from the national team. He spent the first hundred days in the | :22:07. | :22:11.
job reviewing the grassroots game and has already identified schools | :22:12. | :22:16.
rugby as a key part of this plan. Already we have got some cracking | :22:17. | :22:24.
examples where the guys combined together, the school and the club | :22:25. | :22:27.
shady facility and a session, and that sort of connection is only a | :22:28. | :22:34.
good thing. He also wants to create a more awkward unaided youth rugby | :22:35. | :22:37.
calendar so that schools and clubs are not fighting for players at the | :22:38. | :22:48.
same time. -- a more coordinated. Wales have two nominees, captain Sam | :22:49. | :22:52.
Warburton and Talupe Faletau, on a 16-man list for the Six Nations | :22:53. | :22:55.
player of the tournament. Wales are waiting for news on the captain. The | :22:56. | :22:58.
25-year-old is being assessed after hurting his shoulder in the dying | :22:59. | :23:02.
seconds of their Six Nations win over Scotland on Saturday. It's | :23:03. | :23:04.
understood he dislocated his shoulder and could need surgery, | :23:05. | :23:07.
which would mean he misses Wales' summer tour to South Africa. | :23:08. | :23:10.
Team-mate Leigh Halfpenny has already been ruled out. He had | :23:11. | :23:15.
surgery on Friday after dislocating his shoulder in the defeat to | :23:16. | :23:18.
England. He Tweeted this picture to tell fans he was recovering well. | :23:19. | :23:22.
Football, and after losing at the weekend, fans of both our Premier | :23:23. | :23:25.
League sides are gearing up for a real fight as we approach the end of | :23:26. | :23:30.
the season. Cardiff City were 90 seconds from a vital point when | :23:31. | :23:34.
Everton scored the winner. They have eight games left and as things stand | :23:35. | :23:38.
are 19th in the table. Swansea City's defeat to West Brom leaves | :23:39. | :23:43.
them 14th on 29 points. They have nine games left to ensure their | :23:44. | :23:46.
survival. Some lovely sunshine over the | :23:47. | :23:47.
weekend. Derek, is it going to last? This March is turning out much | :23:48. | :23:56.
better than last March, which was bitterly cold with ice, frost and | :23:57. | :24:01.
snow. There's more dry weather to come this week. A few showers as | :24:02. | :24:06.
well with rain on Thursday. The wind picking up with a drop in | :24:07. | :24:09.
temperature on Friday. Tonight, mostly dry. Just a few spots of | :24:10. | :24:17.
drizzle. Plenty of cloud and a mild night. Tomorrow, a cold front will | :24:18. | :24:22.
move east, bringing some rain and showers. Most of the rain in the | :24:23. | :24:28.
north and with more isobars over the UK the wind will be stronger than | :24:29. | :24:36.
today. Here's the picture for 8.00am in the morning. Some places dry but | :24:37. | :24:47.
there will be showers around. Breezy, especially on the coast. The | :24:48. | :24:51.
wind strongest in the northwest. So, a few showers tomorrow but most | :24:52. | :24:54.
places should become dry in the afternoon. Just one or two showers | :24:55. | :24:57.
in the north. The cloud breaking with a little sunshine at times. Top | :24:58. | :25:01.
temperatures between nine and 12 Celsius with a westerly breeze. In | :25:02. | :25:07.
the Vale of Glamorgan, you may catch a shower in the morning, otherwise | :25:08. | :25:11.
dry. Windy on the coast with a high of 11 Celsius in Barry and Penarth. | :25:12. | :25:16.
Tomorrow night will be dry but late in the night low cloud may bring a | :25:17. | :25:21.
little drizzle in Snowdonia. A breezy night with temperatures well | :25:22. | :25:28.
above freezing. Mixed fortunes on Wednesday. Some low cloud and hill | :25:29. | :25:36.
fog in the south and west. Spots of drizzle. Elsewhere will be dry with | :25:37. | :25:41.
the best of the sunshine and highest temperatures in the northeast. | :25:42. | :25:48.
Thursday may start dry but a cold front will move southeast during the | :25:49. | :25:52.
day, bringing a spell of rain. So, turning wet and windy with some | :25:53. | :25:57.
heavy rain. On Friday, rain first thing will clear followed by drier, | :25:58. | :26:02.
colder weather. Sunshine and scattered showers. A drop in | :26:03. | :26:09.
temperature on Friday. In fact, it looks like we're in for a chilly | :26:10. | :26:13.
weekend with showers. Snow possible on the mountains with a risk of | :26:14. | :26:19.
frost. Our picture tonight is from Warren Kovach. Legend says St | :26:20. | :26:23.
Patrick founded this church at Llanbadrig on Anglesey. I've been | :26:24. | :26:26.
there and it's well worth a visit. And I's headlines from the BBC. | :26:27. | :26:43.
America and the European Union have announced shank shins against senior | :26:44. | :26:51.
Russian officials. -- sanctions. It follows yesterday's disputed | :26:52. | :26:55.
referendum. New figures show a 9% rise in the | :26:56. | :26:59.
number of passengers using Cardiff airport since it was bought by the | :27:00. | :27:03.
Welsh government for ?52 million a year ago. | :27:04. | :27:08.
And the emergency services have been dealing with a large grass fire near | :27:09. | :27:12.
Merthyr Tydfil tonight. The blaze has been burning for several hours | :27:13. | :27:17.
and has spread around six miles. X-Ray's on in half an hour. Here's | :27:18. | :27:24.
Rhodri with a preview. Tonight we will be telling you about | :27:25. | :27:27.
the consumers who ran their phone company and got put through to | :27:28. | :27:31.
scammers. I will be meeting the man who can't get his wheelchair into | :27:32. | :27:36.
his disabled bathroom. And Lucy is in Llandudno asking why we pay so | :27:37. | :27:40.
much in booking fees. All that and more at 7:30pm. | :27:41. | :27:45.
I'll have an update for you here at eight o'clock and again after the | :27:46. | :27:51.
BBC News at ten. That's Wales Today. Thank you for watching. From all of | :27:52. | :27:58.
us on the programme, good evening. | :27:59. | :28:07. |
