That's all from the BBC News at Six - on BBC One we now

:00:00.:00:00.

Coming up in Wales Today: Our top story: The Mother's Day walk that

:00:00.:00:14.

ended in tragedy - a 68-year-old woman has died after being cut off

:00:15.:00:18.

by the tide as she walked dogs with her daughter.

:00:19.:00:22.

The RNLI warning tonight about the dangers of fast moving spring tides.

:00:23.:00:26.

Gleision coal mine where four men died - did the manager disregard

:00:27.:00:29.

workers' safety? House prices on the move - but the direction depends on

:00:30.:00:35.

where you live. Melanie got one when she was 13 - it

:00:36.:00:39.

became infected and now new regulations for tattooists.

:00:40.:00:46.

And in tonight's sport: Swansea City edge closer to Premier League safety

:00:47.:00:49.

and Cardiff STILL in with a chance of staying-up but can the fans take

:00:50.:00:51.

any more last minute dramas? Good evening. The RNLI is warning

:00:52.:01:12.

people tonight about the dangers of fast-moving spring tides after a

:01:13.:01:14.

68-year-old woman died during a mother's day walk in

:01:15.:01:19.

Carmarthenshire. Susan Hackett was walking with her daughter and eight

:01:20.:01:22.

dogs on Cefn Sidan beach yesterday when they got into difficulty.

:01:23.:01:26.

Lifeboat teams also dealt with two other incidents over the weekend.

:01:27.:01:32.

Our reporter Abigail Neal is outside Burry Port Harbour near where it

:01:33.:01:38.

happened. Abi? Thanks. I'm not sure if you can see

:01:39.:01:43.

but just behind me you can see a stretch of sand were the seagulls

:01:44.:01:49.

are now. Within a few minutes that was quite a large sandbank but has

:01:50.:01:52.

now completely disappeared because the tide is coming in at such a fast

:01:53.:01:58.

rate and that does illustrate the danger of how you can get cut off

:01:59.:02:02.

field without realising and it was just beyond the peer over there that

:02:03.:02:07.

40-year-old Emma Hackett and 68-year-old Susan Hackett were

:02:08.:02:10.

walking their eight dogs when they became stranded. The lifeboat

:02:11.:02:16.

station is over there and they were here within five minutes but it was

:02:17.:02:20.

then too late to save everyone. The two women had headed out from

:02:21.:02:29.

Cambrai towards Burry Port. By late afternoon, the Mother's Day treat

:02:30.:02:33.

turned to panic when they were stranded on a sandbank as the tide

:02:34.:02:38.

rushed in. The RNLI was called by someone on the beach who saw them in

:02:39.:02:42.

trouble. Rescuers arrived within minutes and spotted the daughter

:02:43.:02:46.

already submerged in the water. She was very hypothermic and frightened

:02:47.:02:52.

and concerned for her mother. We didn't have any news by then

:02:53.:02:58.

other than when she was located in the air and sea rescue said it was

:02:59.:03:03.

deemed better that they would recover the needy from the water.

:03:04.:03:12.

This area is known as treacherous because when a person is cut off,

:03:13.:03:18.

the force of water is so strong that there would be no possibility of

:03:19.:03:22.

trying to swim for sure. 40-year-old Emma Hackett survived but her

:03:23.:03:27.

68-year-old mother Susan Hackett could not be saved. Five of the dog

:03:28.:03:34.

also drowned. Tonight rescue teams are warning people to check the tide

:03:35.:03:40.

times before heading out. As you can see, we are blessed with a lovely

:03:41.:03:44.

coastline but it presents a danger. People need to leave enough time to

:03:45.:03:48.

get back from wherever they walk to but ultimately, if they feel they

:03:49.:03:53.

are in any danger they need to call the coastguard immediately. The

:03:54.:04:01.

winning -- the warning signs are there. It seems to be worse since

:04:02.:04:08.

the last storms we had because I think the sand is a not flatter. The

:04:09.:04:14.

tide was a long way out yesterday. You have to worry about the tide

:04:15.:04:18.

because it can come in suddenly. Having said that, it goes out so far

:04:19.:04:22.

you wouldn't have thought it would be that quick but it is obviously

:04:23.:04:26.

dangerous. This stretch of coastline has long been notorious for failures

:04:27.:04:35.

and now it proves it still has the ability to claim lives. There were a

:04:36.:04:39.

couple of other incidents where emergency crews were sent out

:04:40.:04:45.

because they had become stranded, one in the mumbles and another near

:04:46.:04:51.

Penarth on Sully Island. The RNLI said we are experiencing

:04:52.:04:56.

particularly high spring tides at the moment and we need to make sure

:04:57.:05:00.

we leave enough time to get back because as we can see here,

:05:01.:05:04.

especially on the sandbanks, the tide can come in much quicker than

:05:05.:05:08.

you think. A mine manager facing four counts of

:05:09.:05:10.

manslaughter through gross negligence - failed to comply with

:05:11.:05:14.

safety regulations - a jury has heard. The prosecution says Malcolm

:05:15.:05:17.

Fyfield took "staggering risks" at the Gleision Mine in the Swansea

:05:18.:05:20.

valley, which flooded after a wall was breached in 2011. He denies the

:05:21.:05:26.

charges. Cemlyn Davies was in court. A simple but catastrophic mistake

:05:27.:05:31.

that should never have been made. That's how the prosecution described

:05:32.:05:34.

what happened at Gleision on the day four colliers lost their lives.

:05:35.:05:39.

Garry Jenkins, Philip Hill, David Powell and Charles Breslin all

:05:40.:05:42.

drowned after 650,000 gallons of water poured into the section of the

:05:43.:05:51.

mine where they working. The men were trying to break through to a

:05:52.:05:55.

disused part of the mine and the jury heard Malcolm Fyfield had been

:05:56.:05:58.

repeatedly warned about the presence of water in that area. But according

:05:59.:06:03.

to the prosecution "Mr Fyfield decided to go his own way. He must

:06:04.:06:08.

have thought he could breach the old workings without causing danger to

:06:09.:06:16.

anyone", the barrister said. The jury heard Mr Fyfield told

:06:17.:06:19.

police he'd gone into the old central workings the day before the

:06:20.:06:23.

disaster and found there was no body of standing water there. It's the

:06:24.:06:25.

prosecution's case that Malcolm Fyfield had misjudged where the

:06:26.:06:30.

water was. The jury was shown these industry regulations which clearly

:06:31.:06:33.

state "it's the mine manager's duty to prevent any inrush". Mr Fyfield

:06:34.:06:39.

should have notified the mine inspector of his intention to break

:06:40.:06:43.

through to the old workings even if he didn't think there was water

:06:44.:06:49.

there. The prosecution say he failed to comply with that regulation.

:06:50.:06:52.

Concluding his opening statement, Gregg Taylor QC said, "The mine

:06:53.:06:56.

manager is there to make the correct calculations and men's lives depend

:06:57.:06:57.

on him doing so. This afternoon the first witness was

:06:58.:07:11.

called. Under cross examination Simon Cooke from the Coal Authority

:07:12.:07:14.

confirmed Mr Fyfield was a meticulous mine manager who always

:07:15.:07:16.

submitted updated mine plans on time. Mr Fyfield denies four counts

:07:17.:07:24.

of manslaughter through gross negligence and the mine operators,

:07:25.:07:27.

MNS mining have pleaded not guilty to charges of corporate

:07:28.:07:35.

manslaughter. The trial continues. Police have been stopping and

:07:36.:07:38.

checking cars after a report of an altercation involving a child and a

:07:39.:07:42.

man in Cardigan. Officers were told of a young girl screaming in the

:07:43.:07:45.

back of car outside Cardigan Secondary School. She is thought to

:07:46.:07:52.

be between eight and 12 years old with shoulder-length brown hair.

:07:53.:07:57.

Officers are searching for a silver to loom -- silver saloon vehicle.

:07:58.:08:06.

The BBC understands there have been no reports of missing children.

:08:07.:08:11.

Businesses in Wales could see their rates fall after the Economy

:08:12.:08:14.

Minister Edwina Hart announced a ?15 million funding package. The Wales

:08:15.:08:18.

Retail Relief Scheme could provide a discount of one thousand pounds for

:08:19.:08:22.

retailers, and food and drink premises with a rateable value of

:08:23.:08:24.

less than ?50,000. The former shadow Welsh secretary,

:08:25.:08:27.

Nigel Evans, has described the effect of his arrest for rape and

:08:28.:08:30.

sexual assault as an "absolute hell". The Swansea born MP told his

:08:31.:08:35.

trial that the accusations would live with him for the rest of his

:08:36.:08:38.

life. Matthew Richards is at Preston law courts. What has Mr Evans been

:08:39.:08:48.

saying? He was asked to summarise his

:08:49.:08:52.

feelings about the past year since he was arrested on a charge of rape,

:08:53.:08:56.

two of indecent assault, five of sexual assault and one of attempted

:08:57.:09:02.

sexual assault. All of which he denies. He says it has been hell. He

:09:03.:09:07.

said as a politician it was bad enough if somebody accuse you of

:09:08.:09:11.

having six items in your five items or less queue but this was just

:09:12.:09:19.

awful. What does he say about the men making these claims?

:09:20.:09:24.

There are seven men in their 20s making the allegations and Nigel

:09:25.:09:28.

Evans knows them all to a larger or smaller extent. He said that he

:09:29.:09:32.

couldn't recall specific occasions when he is accused of having

:09:33.:09:36.

sexually assaulted several of them. On one occasion by putting his hand

:09:37.:09:42.

down a man's trousers and another occasion of kissing a man. He does

:09:43.:09:47.

admit to making a pass at a man at his home in 2009 but he said when

:09:48.:09:52.

that was violently rejected he stopped and he felt like a chastened

:09:53.:10:00.

child. Of rape, he said that they had had consensual intercourse but

:10:01.:10:04.

the first inkling he had had that the man was not happy with that five

:10:05.:10:11.

days later the police called at the door.

:10:12.:10:15.

House prices in Wales are on the move according to the latest report

:10:16.:10:18.

from the Land Registry. But the direction depends on where you live.

:10:19.:10:21.

Monmouthshire has seen the biggest price rise in the last 12 months

:10:22.:10:24.

closely followed by Cardiff, Bridgend and Anglesey. In some Welsh

:10:25.:10:27.

counties, though, house prices have fallen, with properties in Blaenau

:10:28.:10:32.

Gwent taking a 15%. Roger Pinney reports.

:10:33.:10:40.

In the boom years we never stopped hearing about the endless upward

:10:41.:10:43.

spiral of house prices with scarcely a thought for those for whom buying

:10:44.:10:49.

was getting more and more difficult. Then came the best. In

:10:50.:10:54.

many places rices are moving again. This latest report from the land

:10:55.:10:58.

Registry shows that across Wales has prices rose in the last year but

:10:59.:11:04.

there are big regional differences. On Anglesey there was healthy growth

:11:05.:11:09.

but on this. Said of the men I straight, hoax -- this side of the

:11:10.:11:20.

Menai Strait, has prices were down. We made a bit of many on the house

:11:21.:11:23.

we are selling but it is not the type of house you would get a lot of

:11:24.:11:28.

profit out of so I'm chuffed we made a bit of money from it. A rosy

:11:29.:11:32.

picture on Anglesey but price rises do bring a downside for those

:11:33.:11:39.

already struggling to get on the housing ladder. Across Wales there

:11:40.:11:43.

is a mixed picture. In Anglesey and Bridgend prices are moving. Steadily

:11:44.:11:49.

upwards. Swansea has seen prices fall but not as much as blind eye

:11:50.:11:53.

and where property values continue to handle.

:11:54.:12:01.

-- in Gwent. This estate agency business has

:12:02.:12:04.

offices in Anglesey, where prices are up, and where prices are down.

:12:05.:12:12.

He says we should worry less about prices and more about the number of

:12:13.:12:16.

sales going through. It has been patchy and that is

:12:17.:12:22.

transferring through to 2014. We are seeing a large number of

:12:23.:12:25.

transactions selling so that should be the first step to house price

:12:26.:12:31.

growth. We are seeing evidence of an

:12:32.:12:33.

increased number of transactions, which is what the economy and the

:12:34.:12:38.

industry needs in terms of giving certainty there will be volumes that

:12:39.:12:43.

businesses can work off and people can buy their homes with confidence.

:12:44.:12:48.

The key point is that house prices are taken as a financial barometer

:12:49.:12:52.

so there may be no end in sight yet for austerity but some of us are

:12:53.:12:57.

already feeling more confident about the future.

:12:58.:12:59.

Much more to come before seven o'clock: It looked all over!

:13:00.:13:02.

The goal that keeps Cardiff in the fight - it's still all to play for

:13:03.:13:05.

with six Premier League games left. One of the UK's leading criminal

:13:06.:13:13.

justice charities has criticised the treatment of youngsters who are held

:13:14.:13:16.

in custody, especially when they've been in the care system. The Prison

:13:17.:13:19.

Reform Trust says they're concerned after BBC Wales revealed that a

:13:20.:13:23.

teenager was held on the same prison wing as the paedophile Ian Watkins.

:13:24.:13:29.

Leon Meisl, who was in care from the age of 12, spent two months at Parc

:13:30.:13:36.

Prison in Bridgend last year. India Pollock reports.

:13:37.:13:41.

Ian Watkins, former lead singer with rock band Lostprophets, a predatory

:13:42.:13:48.

paedophile convicted of a string of sex offences relating to children.

:13:49.:13:53.

Karl Mills, a triple murderer sentenced to 35 years for killing

:13:54.:13:57.

his baby, her mother and her grandmother. And Lionel, sentenced

:13:58.:14:08.

to a couple of months for burglary. I would sit at the same table with

:14:09.:14:11.

both of them. I would eat food with them. I was

:14:12.:14:16.

disgusted. How would you feel if you were sitting down with a murderer

:14:17.:14:21.

and a paedophile? I wouldn't go and burgle nobody again.

:14:22.:14:26.

How did he end up with the offenders? Parc Prison won't say.

:14:27.:14:32.

The prison service says it takes the safety of prisoners very seriously

:14:33.:14:36.

and that prisoners are monitored closely by staff at experts say the

:14:37.:14:44.

risks were high. The impact for young people is likely that they

:14:45.:14:49.

will learn more about crime from people who are experienced in

:14:50.:14:54.

committing crime so it may become that college of crime that nobody

:14:55.:14:58.

wants it to be. There are also risks they will be harmed, bullied and

:14:59.:15:03.

attacked. Violence is high in those institutions. And youngsters who

:15:04.:15:07.

have been in care are more likely to find themselves in the situation.

:15:08.:15:13.

Around 1% of all children in Wales and England are held in local

:15:14.:15:16.

authority care however a third of the boys and 44% of the girls in

:15:17.:15:21.

youth custody have been our are still in care. Last year the Justice

:15:22.:15:24.

Committee said that the youth justice system was failing this

:15:25.:15:27.

group of people. I still believe the cohorts between

:15:28.:15:33.

18 and 21 when they leave care are not being provided for. There is a

:15:34.:15:38.

vacuum there and governments have talked about it. Not much is being

:15:39.:15:44.

done. I hope they will look at the report.

:15:45.:15:48.

Leon Meisl says the experience is something he doesn't want to go

:15:49.:15:51.

through again and now he is determined to put his criminal past

:15:52.:15:53.

the hind him. Plans to give the Welsh Government

:15:54.:15:56.

responsibility for raising some of the money it spends will clear an

:15:57.:15:59.

important parliamentary hurdle tonight. The House of Commons has

:16:00.:16:02.

been debating the Wales Bill, which could lead to the Welsh Government

:16:03.:16:05.

being able to vary income tax rates. After today's general debate, the

:16:06.:16:09.

details of the proposed new law will be scrutinised by Mps. Our

:16:10.:16:13.

parliamentary correspondent David Cornock has been watching the

:16:14.:16:16.

debate. David, just remind how significant this is?

:16:17.:16:23.

Potentially this is quite an important day on the Welsh

:16:24.:16:27.

devolution journey. For years we have been talking about the transfer

:16:28.:16:34.

of more powers from Westminster to Cardiff. They have been commissions

:16:35.:16:38.

and committees. Today MPs are getting on with the business of

:16:39.:16:43.

legislating, passing a new law that will ultimately mean the Welsh

:16:44.:16:47.

government gets some tax and borrowing powers for the first

:16:48.:16:52.

time. This is a general day-to-day about the principles of this

:16:53.:16:57.

legislation. There is a cross-party consensus in some areas that Wales

:16:58.:17:03.

and the Welsh government should get more responsibility for raising some

:17:04.:17:07.

of that ?15 billion a year it bends. We had a couple of controversial

:17:08.:17:11.

areas, there is disagreement between Labour and the coalition over the

:17:12.:17:17.

detail of the income tax powers. That will be debated as the Bill

:17:18.:17:21.

continues its Parliamentary journey. The debate tonight will finish at

:17:22.:17:28.

about 10pm and then it will be down for detailed scrutiny by MPs.

:17:29.:17:33.

Keep us posted. Thank you very much. First Minister Carwyn Jones says

:17:34.:17:36.

there are too many career politicians in Westminster. At a

:17:37.:17:39.

conference in Cardiff he said, it's "absolutely crucial" that aspiring

:17:40.:17:41.

politicians "get as much experience as possible outside politics." His

:17:42.:17:44.

party's leader Ed Miliband, Conservative leader David Cameron

:17:45.:17:47.

and the leader of the Liberal Democrats Nick Clegg have spent

:17:48.:17:49.

almost their entire careers in politics. Mr Jones said it was an

:17:50.:17:56.

issue for all parties. Fishermen will be able to claim some

:17:57.:17:59.

of the cost of replacing equipment damaged during the high tides and

:18:00.:18:08.

storms this winter. The Minister for Natural Resources and Food says

:18:09.:18:12.

they'll be able to claim 80% of the cost of replacing pots to catch

:18:13.:18:15.

shellfish, or 20% percent of their value if the equipment can be

:18:16.:18:17.

repaired. Tougher controls could be brought in

:18:18.:18:20.

for tattoo parlours, as well as clinics offering cosmetic piercing

:18:21.:18:24.

under draft public health laws. Businesses would be required to meet

:18:25.:18:27.

minimum hygiene and infection control standards and be listed in a

:18:28.:18:39.

new register. Matt Murray reports. Peter to here is a Russian

:18:40.:18:42.

proverb... For Melanie Smith from Cardiff every

:18:43.:18:45.

tattoo on her body reflects her passions. From her love of books to

:18:46.:18:52.

her love for her grandmother. But there are two the 23-year-old

:18:53.:18:55.

regrets getting. She had them done illegally when she was just 13. This

:18:56.:18:59.

is one of them, it's always been illegible and after getting it done

:19:00.:19:03.

it started to scab and she ended up with an infection. I was using

:19:04.:19:06.

antiseptic all the time and I used the traditional method before I went

:19:07.:19:13.

to the doctor. It was painful and I couldn't wear anything on my hips. I

:19:14.:19:17.

had to get it treated with penicillin because of the infection.

:19:18.:19:20.

Melanie's welcomes tougher controls on staff and premises offering

:19:21.:19:22.

cosmetic procedures. Under the new law practitioners would need to pass

:19:23.:19:26.

a test, then they'd need to explain risks to customers before any

:19:27.:19:29.

procedures are carried out, and to offer adequate after care advice.

:19:30.:19:33.

Here at Valkary tattoo studio they already follow those procedures.

:19:34.:19:35.

Justin Oldham operates to the highest hygiene standards but

:19:36.:19:38.

believes this law needs to be introduced to stop so called back

:19:39.:19:44.

street tattoo artists operating. You hear the stories about, this

:19:45.:19:50.

person didn't have this or didn't clean certain sections... They

:19:51.:19:54.

dropped things on the floor and carried on using them. You hear

:19:55.:19:58.

these horror stories and it kind of makes you feel a little bit ashamed

:19:59.:20:02.

of your industry, really. The new law would also cover tougher

:20:03.:20:06.

controls for clinics carrying out cosmetic piercing, acupuncture and

:20:07.:20:09.

electrolysis. A new hygiene rating system is also being introduced at

:20:10.:20:11.

tattoo parlours which will be similar to the scores on the doors

:20:12.:20:16.

food hygiene rating. The risks of not getting done properly could mean

:20:17.:20:25.

hepatitis, HIV and scarring. Tattooing done properly is an

:20:26.:20:29.

expensive feature, the artwork is expensive, the ink is expensive and

:20:30.:20:33.

it takes time to do properly which is why we are seeing a rise of the

:20:34.:20:39.

cheap tattooists who can access equipment on the Internet and setup

:20:40.:20:40.

at home. Melanie now writes a blog advising

:20:41.:20:46.

people on tattoos. Her experience at 13 didn't put her off and she's now

:20:47.:20:50.

entering Miss Tattoo UK. But she'll always have a permanent reminder of

:20:51.:20:53.

the mistake she made. Football and rugby in tonight's

:20:54.:20:55.

sport. Here's Claire. Good evening. Just six games left to

:20:56.:20:59.

play but Cardiff City manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, says his team is

:21:00.:21:02.

displaying the right character to stay in the Premier League. They're

:21:03.:21:05.

clinging to their top flight status after a dramatic climax at West

:21:06.:21:09.

Brom. Swansea City's position is now more comfortable after they beat

:21:10.:21:12.

fellow strugglers, Norwich, to move seven points clear of the relegation

:21:13.:21:20.

places. Ashleigh Crowter reports. In a match that bordered on the

:21:21.:21:24.

surreal, it was fitting that a young player called Dali had the final

:21:25.:21:35.

say. Absolutely sensational! The managers couldn't believe their

:21:36.:21:37.

eyes. A 3-3 draw was a joke because

:21:38.:21:43.

relegation and survival flashed in front of their eyes in a minute. In

:21:44.:21:48.

the final throes of injury time, West Brom seemed to have hammered

:21:49.:21:52.

the nail in the coffin for Cardiff but the Welsh side refused to lie

:21:53.:21:57.

down, snatching a point that will prolong their fight.

:21:58.:22:03.

We have to keep it going for the crystal palace came and see what we

:22:04.:22:07.

can do but we still believe we can stay up.

:22:08.:22:17.

Next Saturday's match is crucial for them. Swansea are breathing easier

:22:18.:22:26.

today. They are seven points clear of the drop zone after beating

:22:27.:22:31.

Norwich. It was a display that lifted spirits at the Liberty

:22:32.:22:34.

Stadium, full of invention and skill. It was Garry Monk's first win

:22:35.:22:41.

in the Premier League since the win against Cardiff. His future still

:22:42.:22:44.

isn't decided but three more points should make the club say.

:22:45.:22:50.

We have to win the next game. We have to then win the next one and

:22:51.:22:55.

the next one. That is my approach and that is why demand. We can be

:22:56.:22:59.

better and we have to improve. They want to do it and that is the key.

:23:00.:23:05.

It is important they want to do it and they deserved it this weekend

:23:06.:23:09.

but next weekend we have to do it all over again. Cardiff fans are

:23:10.:23:14.

still worried about their future on and off the pitch.

:23:15.:23:18.

The supporters trust has written to the FA, Premier League and football

:23:19.:23:22.

league, asking them to impose rules to protect the livery as well as its

:23:23.:23:29.

name. They are protesting the change of the club's colours from blue to

:23:30.:23:33.

red traduced by Vincent Tan two years ago.

:23:34.:23:42.

The 24-year-old who scored against Iceland earlier this month was

:23:43.:23:46.

injured playing for Burnley on Saturday and will see a specialist

:23:47.:23:50.

to plan his recovery. Welsh Premier Football side Port

:23:51.:23:53.

Talbot say they've paid a tax bill in full. The club had the money to

:23:54.:23:56.

Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs but they say THAT has now been

:23:57.:24:01.

paid-off. The court dismissed the winding-up petition after hearing

:24:02.:24:03.

that the outstanding debt had been paid in full.

:24:04.:24:06.

Rugby, the Scarlets kept their European Cup qualification hopes on

:24:07.:24:09.

track with a thrilling bonus point win over Connacht yesterday. Gareth

:24:10.:24:12.

Maule stretched-over, under the posts, for their fourth try in a

:24:13.:24:15.

dramatic finish. The Welsh region are on target to finish sixth.

:24:16.:24:19.

Meanwhile it was a triumphant return for hooker Matthew Rees following

:24:20.:24:21.

his treatment for testicular cancer. He came on from the bench as the

:24:22.:24:25.

Blues beat title-hopefuls Ulster, 28-23. He said it was good to be

:24:26.:24:32.

back. It has been a tough couple of months

:24:33.:24:38.

for myself but normally I am quite a positive person and to reflect

:24:39.:24:41.

back, I was quite fortunate to be able to train through the

:24:42.:24:46.

treatment. And the support I've had from throughout the world has been

:24:47.:24:48.

great. Overwhelming. Nice to see him back. And it's

:24:49.:24:52.

always nice to see Derek. Some thunder around this afternoon?

:24:53.:24:55.

A big change this afternoon. Heavy downpours and rumbles of thunder. A

:24:56.:25:00.

big difference to yesterday which was the warmest day of the year so

:25:01.:25:08.

far. In Porthmadog the temperature soared to nearly 21 Celsius, 70

:25:09.:25:11.

Fahrenheit, making it warmer than Majorca! And totally the opposite of

:25:12.:25:15.

last March which was the coldest for over 50 years. This March has been

:25:16.:25:18.

warmer, drier and sunnier than average. A welcome boost after such

:25:19.:25:22.

a wet winter! This evening rain and showers will continue to spread

:25:23.:25:24.

northwards. Heavy downpours in places too with thunder. Dry weather

:25:25.:25:27.

will follow from the southwest overnight with mist and fog patches.

:25:28.:25:32.

And turning cool. Temperatures inland falling as low as two or

:25:33.:25:36.

three Celsius with a ground frost in places. Here's the picture for

:25:37.:25:44.

8:00am in the morning. Mixed fortunes. The whole country dry but

:25:45.:25:47.

some places grey with low cloud, mist and fog patches. On the other

:25:48.:25:51.

hand some other places will be bright and wake up to sunshine.

:25:52.:25:58.

Around seven Celsius. During the morning mist and fog will lift and

:25:59.:26:03.

it will turn into a nice day. A fine afternoon. Most places enjoying some

:26:04.:26:10.

sunshine. Top temperatures 14 to 17 Celsius. A little cooler on the

:26:11.:26:14.

coast with a breeze off the sea. A dry start tomorrow evening but a few

:26:15.:26:19.

showers will spread northwards. The showers hit and miss with a lot of

:26:20.:26:23.

places having a dry night. Wednesday some dry, bright weather but some

:26:24.:26:26.

rain and showers as well which could be heavy with thunder. Temperatures

:26:27.:26:32.

on the warm side with a southeasterly breeze. Some of you

:26:33.:26:36.

have been in touch to say your car is covered in a yellow dust. This is

:26:37.:26:44.

sand which has been blown our way. Low pressure over the Atlantic west

:26:45.:26:47.

of Portugal means Southerly winds from the Sahara. The dust is carried

:26:48.:26:51.

northwards towards the UK and then washed out of the sky by rain. We

:26:52.:26:55.

may see more dust this week with more rain and April showers. The

:26:56.:26:59.

dust is a nuisance but can lead to vivid sunsets! So enjoy the dry

:27:00.:27:03.

weather and sunshine tomorrow. More unsettled later in the week and

:27:04.:27:05.

turning cooler. Jamie.

:27:06.:27:10.

Tonight's headlines. The impact of climate change is likely to be

:27:11.:27:18.

severe, pervasive and irreversible, that is the stark warning to light

:27:19.:27:25.

in a report from the United Nations. The RNLI is warning about the

:27:26.:27:29.

dangers of fast moving tides after a woman died in Carmarthenshire.

:27:30.:27:36.

I'll have an update for you here at eight o'clock and after the BBC news

:27:37.:27:40.

at ten. That's Wales Today. Thank you for watching from all of us on

:27:41.:27:43.

the programme good evening.
