Good evening. The parents of a baby girl who was killed by a pet dog say

they hope awareness will be raised about the potential dangers of

having dogs around young children. An inquest heard how six-day-old

Eliza-Mae Mullane suffered a serious head injury when she was bitten at

her home in Pontyberem. The coroner today ruled her death in February

was accidental. Cemlyn Davies was at the inquest.

They dearly loved daughter who will always be in our hearts, that is how

Eliza-Mae described their baby girl following her tragic death. Today,

Sharon John and Patrick Mullane arrived for the inquest. The hearing

lasted just a few minutes and Eliza-Mae's mother wept as details

of that February morning were read out. The inquest heard how Sharon

John had been feeding Eliza-Mae when a taxi pulled up outside their home

to take her son to school. She put Eliza-Mae to sleep in her cot and

closed the living room door. When she returned to the lounge just a

short while later, Sharon John found one of the family dogs had forced

its way into the room and Eliza-Mae was on the floor, clearly having

suffered a serious head injury. The inquest heard a dog had pulled her

from the cot and beaten her. Eliza-Mae was taken to the

University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff where she was pronounced

dead. The cause of death was given as compression of the school with

intracranial bleeding. Initially, the investigation seemed to focus on

a dog like this one but a collie cross was also seized. The inquest

did not hear which dog was responsible, but non-had ever shown

any signs of aggression. Both have been put down. The coroner said that

the baby died as a result of an accident and there was no way her

mother could possibly have foreseen what happened. In a statement,

Eliza-Mae's father said he hopes... To reason is a dog behaviour wrist

who advises parents on how to keep children safe when there is a dog in

the house. The most important thing is for parents to understand dog

behaviour and to understand the very subtle signs sometimes that dogs are

giving to say they're not comfortable around the baby or they

are not sure how to behave. Eliza-Mae was less than a week old

when she was taken from her parents. Now they are hoping her

death can help ensure that no other family suffers in the same way.

European funding paid to Pembrokeshire Council to help

revitalise two of its towns has been suspended tonight. It comes after

the scheme was linked to a police investigation into allegations of

fraud. Councillors will meet on Monday to discuss the matter. More

from our business correspondent, Brian Meechan.

European grants have been available to help develop buildings including

shop fronts like these in Pembroke. Local government adviser says they

have had a huge impact on the town. A lot of these properties were in

disrepair and as you can see, there are a lot of properties which have

had a massive face uplift and the town is starting to look up for

itself. But concerns were raised for the grant for this building. The

funds can only be used for businesses, not residential

properties, so it can be spent on the office on the ground floor but

not the flat above. The police have confirmed they are investigating an

allegation of fraud made by the council. The Welsh government says

as a precautionary measure, European fund payments to Pembrokeshire

Council for the commercial property grant scheme have been suspended

while a review takes place. The opposition on the council argues

that something has gone badly wrong with the monitoring of grants. Towns

like Pembroke do not desperately need inward investment to get them

back to being a vibrant town centre environment. It is a great scheme.

apparently been shown which show a ?71,000 grant for the building and

investigation. Also an individual received a grant of ?1.4 million for

properties across the council. These buildings, though, are not under

suspicion. The council confirmed that they have referred a leg

hilarity is -- irregularities to the police. The suspension of European

grants will be discussed here at the council headquarters on Monday, but

what is important is what this means for businesses in Pembroke and

Pembroke Dock. Two companies have pleaded guilty to

breaching safety laws, over the death of five-year-old Karolina

Golabek, who was crushed by an electric gate in Bridgend. She

became trapped as it closed on her, back in July 2010. John Glen

Installation Services and Tremorfa Limited admitted health and safety

offences. They're due to be sentenced in June.

The Welsh Ambulance service has seen an increased number of calls this

week after record levels of air pollution. The Trust has seen a 10%

increase in calls relating to breathing problems and chest pains

compared with the previous four weeks. It's believed the sudden rise

in pollution is down to dust blown over from the Sahara Desert in

Africa. The leader of the Welsh Liberal

Democrats has stressed how vital it is to Wales that the UK remains in

the European Union. Kirsty Williams was speaking ahead of the party's

annual conference in Newport this weekend. With European elections

next month, the party wants to highlight how important staying in

the EU is for Welsh jobs. Let's be clear, in Wales, one in ten

Welsh jobs are directly linked to trading with our European partners

and I think people want to hear the arguments about why Wales and the UK

as a whole should be part of Europe, and Nick Clegg and the

Liberal Democrats are the only party willing to take on the challenge.

A burglar has been sentenced for trying to make his getaway from an

AM's home in a car with the politician's picture and name on it.

The Conservative Assembly Member Byron Davies uses the black cab for

political duties. Today 32-year-old Patrick O'Brien, from Swansea, was

jailed for six years after admitting a number of offences including

burglary. The most famous steeple chase in the

world takes place tomorrow afternoon, and a horse based here in

Wales is the favourite. Teaforthree is trained by Rebecca Curtis in

Pembrokeshire, and the 34-year-old says the Grand National is the race

every trainer wants to win. I hope he likes the rain because it

could be a bit wet at Aintree tomorrow.

start. It could linger on well into the afternoon and outbreaks of rain

throughout the day. So the rain making its way in from the South

West. For the rest of the UK, the rain is confined to western parts.

It is making its way northwards and eastwards. Parts of the South East

enjoyed the brighter weather. Maybe some hints of brightness with highs

of 16. Here, the rain will continue on and off in the afternoon

tomorrow. And higher ground we could see him of brightness but it will be

limited. Remaining blustery through tomorrow. Tomorrow night, the next

weather system making its way in from the West. Coastal fog and hill

fog continued but at least it is fairly mild. Temperatures in double

figures for all of us into the early hours of Sunday morning. A

disappointing start to Sunday. Wet and windy conditions. Moderate or

fresh south-westerly wind. But by the afternoon, bright and drier

weather from Anglesey right down to Pembrokeshire, and just a few

showers following on behind the rain band. Another weather system is

bringing rain through Monday. Then hopefully a ridge of high pressure

building towards the middle of next week so things will settle down.
