Wollaston, the MP who first brought to the attention of parliamentary

Good evening. A teacher at a Cardiff school who admitted secretly filming

children in a toilet has pleaded guilty to 31 charges, including

voyeurism and possessing more than 16,000 images of child abuse.

47-year-old Gareth Williams is already in custody and will be

sentenced next month. He secretly filmed in a toilet, collated

indecent images and downloaded sexually explicit videos of

children. But this teacher, from Cardiff, was finally caught as part

of a global investigation. Today, police in Toronto say they've woken

up a large-scale international child pornography ring. Last year,

Canadian TV News reported on Project spade. It centred on a Toronto

businessman who ran a website called Azarov films. He distributed

sexually explicit videos featuring children as well -- 's young as five

to customers across the world. The arrests included 40 schoolteachers,

nine doctors and nurses, 32 people who volunteered with children.

Gareth Williams' name, Cardiff address and credit card details were

among the 348 people identified by the police. Law enforcement agencies

across the world were contacted, including the Child Exploitation and

Online Protection Centre and see in the UK. They would have received the

orders and they also would have received an actual hard drive

containing 500 of the movies. We left it up to each jurisdiction to

apply their own laws. Canadian police say that was an April 2012,

but there were serious delays until the authorities here took action. It

wasn't until November 2013 that CEOP, now part of the National Crime

Agency, assessed the intelligence properly and passed on the

information. However, Gareth Williams was still at large and in

December 2013 he installed the secret pinhole camera in a toilet.

He was finally arrested by South Wales police in January this year.

CEOP say they are carrying out an independent review of how quickly

they acted on the intelligence, and admit that all steps which should

have been completed at the time did not take place. Appearing via video

link at Newport Crown Court, Gareth Williams pleaded guilty to 31

charges. Nine of those charges were voyeurism, that's recording another

person doing a private act without their consent for the purpose of

sexual gratification. He also pleaded guilty to 22 charges of

making and possessing indecent images of children. The court heard

how the police recovered more than 16,000 indecent photographs and more

than 600 indecent movies on computers and memory sticks. Newport

Crown Court heard how he'd secretly placed cameras in a toilet and a two

houses. Some of the images had been catalogued with the children's date

of birth and dates of the recording. In the domestic setting these tiny

pinhole cameras can be camouflaged in everyday items like a radio or a

clock, or like in this case in the screw head of a light switch. These

devices can be fitted with motion sensors so they only work when

someone is in the room. As you can see, they give surprisingly clear

pictures. Tonight, questions are also being asked about whether more

can be done to protect children from online exploitation and voyeurism.

It's about resource in organisations like CEOP, and it's also about

working with search engine companies to think about how they can put

controls on to online child abuse imagery. Today the judge adjourned

sentencing until next month for psychological reports to be

compiled, but he warned Williams he faced a lengthy custodial sentence.

The power of the Crown Prosecution Service to pursue historic

allegations of sexual assault should be investigated. That's the view of

Nigel Evans, who was cleared of rape and sexual assault charges last

week. The Swansea born MP says he is ?130,000 out of pocket following the

case, although it's been revealed tonight that he would have received

legal aid had he applied for it. The former Hotpoint factory site at

Denbighshire has been bought by the Welsh Government for ?1.5 million.

300 jobs were lost when production ended their five years ago. The

intention is to redevelop the site. Fighting grass fires in the South

Wales valleys has cost almost ?1 million already this year despite

awareness programmes in the community there -- they are a major

drain on resources for fire crews. Our reporter has been given

exclusive access to cruise at a station to see the effect deliberate

fires are having. It is 11am on a Saturday morning and the fire crew

here are called out to yet another deliberate grass fire. They will be

using the beacons. They will beat it out. Because there's no way you can

get any water up here. How does this compare in terms of size up to some

of the other fires? This is minor. By Sunday, another call, another

deliberate fire on the mountainside. It's bigger than yesterday's and

more difficult to get to. This fire started as a small one just down

there. It's come all the way up this hill and spread as far as you can

see over that way. There's a line of fire going all the way up the side

of the Mt. The wind is now blowing it over that way, which is making

stopping it and putting it out quite difficult because they can't get to

the other side of the flame to put it out. The grassland is well

alight. I'm worried if it starts coming back down the mountain and

impinging on the properties down below. The crew manages a fire's

path to protect buildings and houses. Being a peer, though, means

they can't be down in the valley for other emergencies. Protecting

wildlife from the flames is often impossible. In the last six days

we've had over 41 fire incidents. Even know the ground is still wet,

we are still getting grass fires deliberately set across our

communities in South Wales. The weekend ends with a call to a fire

nearly ten times bigger than the last. Getting to where it is is as

difficult as putting it out. The fire service says it is not just

grass being damaged here, it's an entire landscape and it continues to

put lives at risk. Swimming, and at the British Championships in Glasgow

tonight, jazz Colin defended her 800 metre freestyle title in style. The

23-year-old won gold with a new Welsh record, which sees her move to

the top of the world rankings. Lots of sunshine across Wales today

and there's more to come over the next couple of days. Still some

chilly nights, watch out for a ground frost. Thursday looks cloudy,

so not sunny everyday this week. Having said that, I'm not expecting

much, if any, rain. Fine and dry tonight, a beautiful full moon. That

clear sky means it's turning chillier. Widespread ground frost by

the end of the night, one or two mist patches as well high-pressure

sitting right at across the UK tomorrow. That means more fine and

sunny weather. It's going to be a beautiful day right across the whole

of Wales tomorrow. A cooler and fresh start first thing, any mist

will soon disappear. Then we are all in the same boat, basking in super

spring sunshine. It's a similar story across the rest of the UK

tomorrow. Most places fine, lots of April sunshine. More cloud for the

North of Scotland, breezy in Cornwall with a high of 16 Celsius

in London. Much cooler on the coast where the breeze is off the sea. In

Wales tomorrow afternoon, a cracking one, lots of sunshine, a few fair

weather clouds. Warmer than today on the north and west coast. A breeze

off the land rather than the sea. Good weather for working outdoors in

the garden tomorrow. But don't forget the sun cream. A high pollen

count as well. More fine weather and sunshine on Wednesday. 17 Celsius

This day will bring a change, much cloudier with a few spots of light

rain possibly, but no more than that. Good Friday and Easter

weekend, there's more dry weather to come.
