Good evening. Thunder storms and torrential rain have caused flash

flooding across south Wales today. The worst affected areas were

Penarth and Cwmbran. An elderly couple had to be rescued from their

home as intense downpours hit, and the Fire Service had more than a

hundred 999 calls, as well as many requests for sandbags. Matt Murray

reports. And our's worth of rain destroying

months of hard work. This man is only recently refurbished his home

when Flash Rose brought down part of us living room wall, destroying

furniture and family pictures -- flash floods. We are waiting to hear

evidence saved to go back in. On the seafront, it was equally as bad.

This shows how high the water came. As it is almost a couple feet deep,

this road was impossible. The rainwater has disappeared almost as

quickly as it arrived. The damage has still been felt as many

buildings here were affected by the floods. The club has been cleared of

since the waters rush through the front door. It came straight

through. We are finished almost hiding this up now. This man told me

how the floors were covered in thick black drain water. This is what the

rest of the floor did look like. We have hosted down. It was filthy. It

was smelly. Here this road was underwater and a nearby fire station

was flooded. An elderly couple had to be rescued from their home as the

storm hit. 170 calls were received in two hours by the patrol centre.

Report of houses flooded, electrics in businesses affected, said they

were evacuating. Roadways in a dangerous condition. We had three

live risks in that we had to send fire engines to rescue people from

their homes. Knows the rainwater has now gone but the cleric is

continuing by many -- most of. Letters to staff at an events

company in Cwmcarn near Caerphilly, shown to Wales Today, reveal the

majority of the 150 workers are facing redundancy. Freeman UK, which

describes itself as one of the most influential companies in the UK,

will shed jobs in July and close its base by December. Earlier on, our

reporter Paul Heaney explained why the jobs are at risk.

The American company that owned the site behind me had decided to

centralise some of the operations that it owns in the UK by building a

new headquarters in the Midlands. They make the kind of equipment and

staging and backdrop seen at big events and big conference halls

here. We understand around 150 people work here, and from speaking

to some of the workers today, I understand some of them have been

offered jobs at that new headquarters near Coventry in the

Midlands, but they've told me some of the terms and conditions there

been offered are worse than the terms and conditions they are on

here. -- they have been offered. Many feel they'll be worse off if

they were to take the company up on the offer and up sticks and move to

Coventry. Many have received redundancy notices. We have seen

some of them today and they suggest that some workers will leave at the

end of July this year.. Others will leave in December at the end of the

year and that raises the prospect that this site could shut

completely. Some admin staff could move the Newport but this site may

not be in operation as of December. We tried to contact Freeman UK to

ask their side of the story, for their plans, but they have not

returned our calls. A man from Ogmore Vale, who waited

four and a half hours outside a hospital in an ambulance because

there was no room in the A department, did not die because of

the delay, a coroner has ruled. Michael Bowen, who was 58 and

suffered from alcohol misuse, was taken by ambulance to the Princess

of Wales Hospital, in Bridgend, in January this year. Mr Bowen died

after a seizure, hours after being admitted. The coroner recorded a

narrative verdict. Prestatyn's Nova Centre could be up

for a ?3.5 million revamp. Denbighshire council closed it

earlier this year because it was losing money. Now the authority is

being asked to give the go ahead to a study which could lead to a major

upgrade. If approved work may be completed as early as July next

year. It's the first of its kind in

Britain - a project using sea water instead of oil for heat. The

National Trust has introduced the new system at their Plas Newydd site

on Anglesey - the most expensive of all its 29,000 properties to heat.

The conversion is expected to save ?40,000 a year, using water from the

nearby Menai Strait. This house consumes 100,000 litres

of oil in a year. On simple economics we knew something had to

happen here and we've got a vast recharging heat source right in

front of the house. Football - and Cardiff City and

Wales striker Craig Bellamy has announced his retirement from

football. His career saw him play for some of Britain's biggest clubs

and gain almost 80 caps for his country. Sachin Krishnan reports.

Celebrating in his final match as a professional. This strike against

Chelsea by Craig Bellamy was ultimately credited as an own goal

but there are plenty of other moments for him to look back with

pride. After making his name as youngster with Norwich, he went on

to play for clubs of the stature of Liverpool and Newcastle. His often

fiery and confrontational manner meant there were public fallings out

with team-mates, but managers continued to pay big money to bring

him to their clubs. By the time of his international retirement last

year, only four men had scored more goals for Wales. The highlight

undoubtably the winner against Italy at the Millennium Stadium. His first

spell at home-town club Cardiff City failed to produce the Premier league

promotion he craved. But on his return the dream was achieved,

albeit followed by relegation. In announcing his retirement at the age

of 34, Craig Bellamy has said he'll now plan to move into management

with an ambition of one day being in charge of the Wales team.

The Welsh Rugby Union has confirmed that's its preparing for an

Extraordinary General Meeting of the governing body. The meeting has been

triggered by 43 clubs, including the four regions - in a campaign

orchestrated by former WRU chief executive David Moffett. Today he

went to the WRU's headquarters in Cardiff to deliver letters from the

clubs - who are are unhappy with the way the game is currently being run.

This is about 50 odd clubs deciding they have had enough with the way in

which the WRU treats them, especially over the leagues and a

whole lot of other issues. I've been a conduit. They have signed, I think

possibly the most ever to have signed, calling for an EGM. They are

deeply unhappy. Flash flooding earlier today. Are we

out of the woods, Benny? We do have more showers to come. They could be

thundery through much of tomorrow morning. Here is the radar showing

the extent of the showers. It last strength as it moved north. Through

tonight we have another batch of showers making their way from the

south, hopefully going through quickly. Overnight temperatures of

nine to 12 Celsius, quite breezy. The reason for the unsettled

conditions is as low pressure sitting across us, bringing a series

of weather systems. Things will remain unsettled into the weekend.

Though showers continue their journey north and west and they

could be thundery at times. Quite breezy across the west Coast. The

best of the dry and bright aroma across South east weather -- bright

weather. Here in Wales tomorrow afternoon there is more heavy

downpours. No warnings in place for the showers but they could be

released, so keep an eye on the forecast. Highs of 12 or 15 Celsius.

More showers continued tomorrow night. A repeat performance into

early hours of Saturday morning. Saturday is probably the worst day

of the weekend. We will see heavy and thundery down pours through the

day. Then on Sunday, fewer showers in comparison. Certainly by the

afternoon is looking drier and brighter with the best of the
