Two companies have been ordered to pay nearly ?200,000 for leaving

a gate that crushed a five-year-old girl to death desperately unsafe.

Karolina Golabek was playing with kittens when she became trapped

between the gate and a pillar near her home in Bridgend.

crushed by the equivalent of more than 30 stone in weight. She was

rushed to hospital, but died later. Today, two companies were ordered to

pay nearly ?200,000 per health and safety failings. She was lovely, she

was cute. She was a fantastic little girl. No matter what has happened

today, she will not come back to life. I hope everyone learnt a

lesson. This Health and Safety Executive video shows how the gate

does not slow down or stop when something is put in its way. A

crucial safety feature was not programmed. Another company was

responsible for maintaining the gate. They inspected it twice, but

failed to check whether it met safety standards. It did not. Bob

companies missed an opportunity to rectify Peyton defects. -- both

companies. They said they are sorry for what happened and it will not

happen again. Both companies let the gate powerful and unsafe. The judge

also said that Karolina Golabek's family were deeply affected.
