Welcome to Wales Today from Cardiff Bay. | :00:00. | :00:07.
The Welsh Government Environment Minister Alun Davies has been | :00:08. | :00:12.
He asked his civil servants to dig up private information to smear | :00:13. | :00:15.
In ill-tempered exchanges at First Minister's Question Time, the | :00:16. | :00:20.
I find the answer deeply offensive because your minister was trying to | :00:21. | :00:28.
seek information to cause political damage to individuals | :00:29. | :00:32.
First Minister, since your judgement on these issues has been so very | :00:33. | :00:40.
flawed, surely now is the time to accept that we need independent | :00:41. | :00:45.
The sacked minister Alun Davies was already in the dog house over | :00:46. | :00:53.
his lobbying to build a race track in his constituency. | :00:54. | :00:57.
Tonight serious questions over the First Minister Carwyn Jones' | :00:58. | :01:01.
A man goes on trial in Newport accused of murdering six-week-old | :01:02. | :01:22.
The family of Alec MacLachlan, kidnapped and killed by Iraqi | :01:23. | :01:28.
militants, tell us in their first interview an apology from the group | :01:29. | :01:32.
We can't accept his apology, our boy is dead. | :01:33. | :01:41.
And we're with Welsh Police in Crete as they search new sites | :01:42. | :01:48.
Sunshine and Caribbean music in north Wales can only mean one thing | :01:49. | :01:55.
- the return of the Llangollen International Eisteddfod. | :01:56. | :02:08.
Sacked from his job as Welsh Government Environment Minister - | :02:09. | :02:14.
Alun Davies is tonight getting used to life back on the back benches. | :02:15. | :02:18.
He asked his civil servants to obtain | :02:19. | :02:20.
personal financial information about his political opponents which | :02:21. | :02:24.
He was already on final warning after using | :02:25. | :02:32.
his position to lobby for a racing circuit in his constituency, | :02:33. | :02:40.
Last week, he had to apologise for that. | :02:41. | :02:43.
Now, this latest behaviour got him fired. | :02:44. | :02:45.
Here's our political editor, Nick Servini. | :02:46. | :02:51.
And it has been called an attempt by Alun Davies to find out how much | :02:52. | :02:57.
many five opposition assembly members involved in farming received | :02:58. | :03:01.
in subsidies. They were Andrew RT Davies, his colleague Antoinette | :03:02. | :03:15.
Sandbach, Llyr Griffiths, Kirsty Williams and her partner. The e-mail | :03:16. | :03:22.
sent back said: Aled Davies had asked for this | :03:23. | :03:37.
information early on Wednesday morning. The night before he had | :03:38. | :03:40.
just about kept his job after breaking the ministerial code for | :03:41. | :03:44.
lobbying for a motor racing circuit in his constituency. He was forced | :03:45. | :03:51.
to apologise. The first Minister commissioned an | :03:52. | :03:54.
enquiry to establish the relevant facts and he concluded that I did in | :03:55. | :03:59.
fact reach some specific elements of the ministerial code. I have already | :04:00. | :04:03.
apologised to the first Minister and would like to do so again. | :04:04. | :04:09.
Asked me -- last week they stuck together but this time there was no | :04:10. | :04:14.
such support. He said his Minister's behaviour was | :04:15. | :04:18.
unacceptable and he sacked him. It was a bad-tempered session of first | :04:19. | :04:25.
Minister 's questions. Do you now regret not slacking Aled | :04:26. | :04:31.
Davies last week? And does that not speak volumes about a severe lapse | :04:32. | :04:33.
in judgement on your part? You have taken eight questions on | :04:34. | :04:39.
this subject today and not a word of regret has passed your lips. You | :04:40. | :04:42.
haven't passed on an apology to anyone of the five members of the | :04:43. | :04:46.
chamber through the information was stored by your minister. You are | :04:47. | :04:50.
responsible for the actions of your minister and you often tell us this. | :04:51. | :04:54.
Would you use this opportunity to extend an apology to the five | :04:55. | :04:58.
members of this chamber whose information was sought by this | :04:59. | :05:01.
minister when he was in your government? | :05:02. | :05:05.
Yes, because it is wrong that ministers should ask for | :05:06. | :05:10.
confidential information. For one of them, the information was in the | :05:11. | :05:13.
public domain. Matt has got personal when the first | :05:14. | :05:17.
Minister tried to attack the Tory leader. | :05:18. | :05:19.
Where was the last week when we were ready to meet the Prince of Wales? | :05:20. | :05:24.
He did not turn up and didn't give an explanation. | :05:25. | :05:32.
My apology was extended to the organisers. I was ill on Thursday. I | :05:33. | :05:37.
was also dealing with a stroke that my mother-in-law had just had the | :05:38. | :05:40.
night before. Emotions have been running high over | :05:41. | :05:43.
this throughout the day. Many thought Aled Davies had survived the | :05:44. | :05:48.
racetrack row but as they say, a week is a long time in politics. | :05:49. | :05:52.
The sacked minister has a colourful and a controversial career. | :05:53. | :05:55.
Once upon a time he supported Plaid Cymru before switching to Labour. | :05:56. | :06:03.
Our Environment correspondent Iolo ap Dafydd on the | :06:04. | :06:05.
Environment Minister never afraid to clash with farmers. | :06:06. | :06:09.
Alun Davies has become known in farming and conservation circles as | :06:10. | :06:12.
a bullish, straight talking minister - even controversial at times. | :06:13. | :06:15.
Since being appointed as minister for Natural Resources | :06:16. | :06:18.
and Food last year, he's repeated a stern message to farming | :06:19. | :06:22.
There were some things we agreed with but also quite a few things we | :06:23. | :06:35.
disagreed with, particularly the 15% pillar transfer at the beginning of | :06:36. | :06:41.
the year from single payment to the IDP fund. There was also the issue | :06:42. | :06:44.
of vaccinating badgers in Pembrokeshire when we felt the | :06:45. | :06:47.
previous government were going ahead to coal. | :06:48. | :06:50.
During the past year, he clashed with farmers often. | :06:51. | :06:53.
During the spring of last year, after some farmers in mid | :06:54. | :06:55.
and north Wales lost animals during the heavy snow, it took a while | :06:56. | :06:58.
But his response and Natural Resources Wales during last | :06:59. | :07:02.
Less critical too are the conservations groups in Wales, | :07:03. | :07:05.
who believe he did care for the environment. | :07:06. | :07:12.
The issues that he was passionate about the really fought for, such as | :07:13. | :07:21.
the restoration of blogs in Wales, getting the nature fund to put ?6 | :07:22. | :07:25.
million back into halting the loss of biodiversity. | :07:26. | :07:27.
Before becoming a politician he was a lobbyist and a public relations | :07:28. | :07:31.
manager for a variety of companies including Hyder, S4C and also ran | :07:32. | :07:34.
Before switching to the Labour Party he twice stood for Plaid Cymru, | :07:35. | :07:38.
By the 2005 general election he stood for Labour in Ceredigion, | :07:39. | :07:44.
and two years later he secured the mid and west Wales seat | :07:45. | :07:53.
as an assembly member. He then stood and was elected as the assembly | :07:54. | :07:56.
During that time he was appointed Deputy Minister for Agriculture. | :07:57. | :08:00.
After that Alun Davies became Minister for Natural Resources | :08:01. | :08:02.
and Food before the new environment service was introduced last year. | :08:03. | :08:07.
Fred-mack He is a particularly robust character. He is bright and | :08:08. | :08:13.
sure of himself and he doesn't mind getting into scrapes. The plus side | :08:14. | :08:17.
of that if he is a minister who knows his mind and gets his way. I | :08:18. | :08:21.
think that is a good thing because he is not a creature of the civil | :08:22. | :08:25.
service. The flip side of that, he sometimes flies too close to the | :08:26. | :08:27.
sun. And that's been obvious | :08:28. | :08:29.
in his public and personal life. Nine years ago he famously had | :08:30. | :08:31.
an altercation with the actor In his ministerial role he's hit | :08:32. | :08:34.
the headlines on numerous occasions including | :08:35. | :08:37.
the reports of a relationship with The timing of his sacking, | :08:38. | :08:39.
just before the Royal Welsh Show is similar to when Christine Gwyther | :08:40. | :08:43.
was asked to go in 2000. Back then, Carwyn Jones became | :08:44. | :08:46.
the new Agriculture Minister - Alun Davies though will now sit | :08:47. | :08:50.
on the Assembly's back benches. We asked the First Minister | :08:51. | :08:59.
Carwyn Jones for an interview. Neither was Alun Davies's successor, | :09:00. | :09:01.
Edwina Hart. Aled Davies has not been speaking to | :09:02. | :09:13.
the media but if he does, we will bring you the interview as soon as | :09:14. | :09:21.
we get it. -- Aled Davies. We were told the first Minister was | :09:22. | :09:24.
disappointed and angry and you could understand that in the context of | :09:25. | :09:35.
what happened last week. The report showing that he broke the | :09:36. | :09:38.
ministerial code gave the first Minister enough after sacking last | :09:39. | :09:41.
week but he stuck with him and gave him a lifeline. You can imagine how | :09:42. | :09:46.
he must have felt after seeing that e-mail which, incidentally, was | :09:47. | :09:50.
released to us by the US government today, shoving that within an hour | :09:51. | :09:55.
of being back on work -- back in work on Wednesday morning, he asked | :09:56. | :09:58.
the officials for the information that subsequently led to him getting | :09:59. | :10:04.
the sack. Of all the criticisms that Carwyn Jones would have faced today, | :10:05. | :10:08.
I would have thought the most harmful is calling into question | :10:09. | :10:12.
that judgement call which he made as first minister a week ago. | :10:13. | :10:17.
People don't usually use the word dramatic about proceedings about | :10:18. | :10:20.
this place but today was a dramatic day towards the end of the political | :10:21. | :10:25.
tone. First Minister 's questions got very | :10:26. | :10:31.
nasty, as we saw earlier. Kind of, in a way it was similar to the big | :10:32. | :10:34.
debates we have seen about the state of the NHS. Carwyn Jones wasn't in a | :10:35. | :10:40.
real mood to be contrite about it. At one stage he was taunting Leanne | :10:41. | :10:47.
Wood and going on the attack with Andrew RT Davies, which blew up in | :10:48. | :10:52.
his face when it's turned out that he was unable to make a royal visit | :10:53. | :10:55.
because of genuine concerns. I think all of this is reflective of the | :10:56. | :11:02.
very personal element that came in today and something we haven't seen | :11:03. | :11:05.
in previous resignations and sackings. | :11:06. | :11:08.
We were supposed to be talking about local currencies reorganisation | :11:09. | :11:13.
today. -- local council reorganisation today. | :11:14. | :11:18.
The narrative they wanted with the start of the lawmaking process that | :11:19. | :11:21.
will see a huge reduction in the number of councils, the largest | :11:22. | :11:25.
reforms we would have seen since the start of devolution. A day like | :11:26. | :11:29.
today means that the Welsh government will need to regain the | :11:30. | :11:34.
initiative on that huge issue as we go into this summer. | :11:35. | :11:38.
More on the sacking of Alun Davies later - first the rest | :11:39. | :11:41.
A man has gone on trial at Newport Crown Court, | :11:42. | :11:49.
charged with the murder of his girlfriend's six-week-old baby. | :11:50. | :11:51.
Alfie Sullock, died of head injuries and extensive bleeding to the brain. | :11:52. | :11:54.
Six-week-old Alfie Sullock, a healthy happy baby, | :11:55. | :12:00.
loved by his mother Donna from Fairwater in Cardiff. | :12:01. | :12:03.
But in August last year Donna allowed her new boyfriend | :12:04. | :12:05.
Michael Pearce to babysit at his home in Nelson so she could have her | :12:06. | :12:09.
But just over an hour after she left little Alfie | :12:10. | :12:15.
in Pearce's care he suffered what would prove to be fatal injuries. | :12:16. | :12:20.
Prosecuting Counsel Michael Maher Lees told the jury here at | :12:21. | :12:22.
Newport Crown Court that in all probability the defendant had beaten | :12:23. | :12:25.
him with a shoe or sandal and with the bottom of a plastic bottle. | :12:26. | :12:30.
He said there was distinctive match pattern with the sole | :12:31. | :12:33.
of that shoe and with bruising on the baby's body. | :12:34. | :12:38.
He inflicted injuries that were to end that baby?s life, he said. | :12:39. | :12:41.
The baby was initially taken to hospital in Merthyr | :12:42. | :12:43.
but transferred to the University Hospital in Cardiff where | :12:44. | :12:46.
The court heard the preliminary cause of death was blunt trauma | :12:47. | :12:50.
The court heard how Michael Pearce had been texting Donna Sullock | :12:51. | :12:55.
saying the baby was fine just four minutes before he called | :12:56. | :12:58.
The jury heard a tape recording of the 999 call in which Mr Pearce | :12:59. | :13:05.
is attempting to give Alfie mouth to mouth resuscitation | :13:06. | :13:07.
In later police interviews he could give no explanation | :13:08. | :13:14.
He denies murder and an alternative charge of manslaughter | :13:15. | :13:21.
Officers from North Wales Police are searching new sites on the island | :13:22. | :13:30.
of Crete in an effort to find missing pensioner Arthur Jones. | :13:31. | :13:33.
Detectives say their Greek counterparts are doing everything | :13:34. | :13:36.
possible to locate the missing 73-year-old but | :13:37. | :13:40.
the search will have to be scaled if no new leads come to light. | :13:41. | :13:44.
This was Arthur Jones on Remembrance Sunday in Denbigh in 2003. He served | :13:45. | :14:00.
with the first Battalion Royal Welsh Regiment. It is no surprise to the | :14:01. | :14:06.
proud former servicemen visited this Memorial Cemetery. His name was in | :14:07. | :14:10.
the visitor book. Some who signed the register on the same day have | :14:11. | :14:14.
already contacted the police but it hasn't yet led to any new leads. We | :14:15. | :14:19.
now offer Jones signed the guestbook here on the 18th of June. There was | :14:20. | :14:23.
a possible sighting of him on the 25th of June here, the day after he | :14:24. | :14:29.
was meant to fly home. It is one of a number of possible sighting of the | :14:30. | :14:33.
police are looking into. Another of those possible sightings was on a | :14:34. | :14:39.
peninsula to the West. Its areas are of interest to the team who | :14:40. | :14:43.
travelled from North Wales. We had a good meeting with the Greek police | :14:44. | :14:47.
and I have been talking with the family, doing missing person | :14:48. | :14:52.
questionnaires, which is about profiling. This search now needs to | :14:53. | :14:58.
be intelligence led so we need to know a lot about the person. I have | :14:59. | :15:03.
been building a profile and spending time with the family, developing the | :15:04. | :15:07.
profile so we can anticipate what he might do in different circumstances. | :15:08. | :15:13.
We are developing the scenarios in terms of searching, we can | :15:14. | :15:15.
anticipate what he might do given a certain circumstance. Standing on | :15:16. | :15:22.
the peninsula give someone a rough idea of the mammoth task facing the | :15:23. | :15:27.
search teens looking for that proverbial needle in a haystack. We | :15:28. | :15:34.
met with the brilliant year -- with the brigadier in charge of the | :15:35. | :15:38.
search. They are being very extensive with a very senior level | :15:39. | :15:44.
he's in charge. Arthur Jones flew to Crete because he loved the outdoors. | :15:45. | :15:47.
It is that very to rain that is making it difficult to find him. The | :15:48. | :15:54.
brigadier said the search will continue but they are scaling down | :15:55. | :16:00.
their efforts. His family haven't given up. They are hanging on | :16:01. | :16:02.
because they still have hope. Your apologies mean nothing - | :16:03. | :16:05.
tell us who killed our son. That's the message tonight | :16:06. | :16:08.
from the family of Alec MacLachlan Yesterday, | :16:09. | :16:10.
we reported how the leader of the Shia militia who killed him | :16:11. | :16:13.
and three other bodyguards said he was sorry but blamed the deaths | :16:14. | :16:17.
on the British government. Tonight, in their first interview | :16:18. | :16:20.
since Alec's death, his family talk Helen and Colin Maclachlan are | :16:21. | :16:23.
still living through a nightmare. Their son Alec was kidnapped | :16:24. | :16:33.
and murdered seven years ago while working as a bodyguard for | :16:34. | :16:35.
a private security firm in Iraq. Yesterday Sheik al-Khazali - | :16:36. | :16:39.
the leader of the group which killed him and 3 of | :16:40. | :16:41.
his colleagues apologised - but it's no comfort to Alec's family, and | :16:42. | :16:44.
today they appealed for justice. It makes us very sad to be honest | :16:45. | :16:51.
that you've got four guys who died Their lives have been | :16:52. | :16:54.
absolutely wasted, young boys. I want him to give us | :16:55. | :17:06.
the information or give the British government the information to bring | :17:07. | :17:09.
the perpetrators to justice, We've suffered for seven years, it's | :17:10. | :17:14.
destroyed our family to be honest. This is the last picture taken | :17:15. | :17:32.
of Alec Maclachlan with his son Now aged ten, | :17:33. | :17:35.
he doesn't remember his father. It's very difficult you know, the | :17:36. | :17:38.
day they brought Alec's body back to Lyenham and we had to go into the | :17:39. | :17:46.
chapel of rest with Kyle, and that was the worst day of my life and I | :17:47. | :17:53.
remember Hailey telling daddy that he couldn't see Daddy but Daddy | :17:54. | :18:03.
could see him, heartbreaking. The Iraqi authorities are leading | :18:04. | :18:05.
the murder investigation. But the political landscape | :18:06. | :18:07.
has changed since 2007. Al-Khazali's group - the League of | :18:08. | :18:11.
the Righteous - are now a powerful political and military force siding | :18:12. | :18:14.
with the Iraqi government If the government now is reliant | :18:15. | :18:17.
on Khazali and his group, are we ever going to | :18:18. | :18:33.
find out or bring these people to justice? It doesn't suit them now to | :18:34. | :18:40.
continue the investigation. Colin MacLachlan there, | :18:41. | :18:51.
ending that report. The jury in the case | :18:52. | :18:54.
of a man accused of shooting his wife in Newport has | :18:55. | :18:56.
been sent home for another night. Caroline Parry was shot in | :18:57. | :19:00.
the back near her home last August. Christopher Parry was found | :19:01. | :19:04.
critically wounded nearby. He denies murder | :19:05. | :19:06.
but has admitted manslaughter. The chair of Wales' largest health | :19:07. | :19:14.
board has described a ?200,000 payoff to a former chief | :19:15. | :19:16.
executive as value for money. Dr Peter Higson, who chairs the | :19:17. | :19:19.
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board in North Wales, told AMs that | :19:20. | :19:28.
the departure of Mary Burrows, could have become "more protracted" | :19:29. | :19:31.
had a settlement not been reached. The payment was part | :19:32. | :19:33.
of up to ?470,000 paid by the Health Most schools in Newport have | :19:34. | :19:36.
decided to close when the Nato The Celtic Manor is hosting | :19:37. | :19:40.
the event which will bring together 60 world leaders at | :19:41. | :19:46.
an estimated cost of ?50 million. Protests are expected to take place, | :19:47. | :19:51.
but police say there are no plans Organisers of the Llangollen | :19:52. | :19:54.
International Eisteddfod say they hope the festival's fortunes are | :19:55. | :20:01.
on a firmer footing than in recent There have been concerns | :20:02. | :20:04.
about difficulties in competitors getting visas to | :20:05. | :20:09.
travel to this year's festival, Matthew Richards is there | :20:10. | :20:11.
for us tonight. Despite the friendly atmosphere, | :20:12. | :20:27.
competition is fierce at Llangollen but this year the toughest battle | :20:28. | :20:31.
was getting here in the first place. Staff here are used to dealing with | :20:32. | :20:34.
these problems but said this year has been particularly bad. It has | :20:35. | :20:39.
been quite infuriating. There is an Indian dance group that have been | :20:40. | :20:43.
coming for years was never any problems. They come and perform and | :20:44. | :20:47.
they are very popular with the audience. This year, the dancers | :20:48. | :20:51.
have been given visas but they are musicians have been refused. So the | :20:52. | :20:57.
dancers have come but they will have to dance to pre-recorded music. That | :20:58. | :21:02.
is not allowed in the syllabus so therefore, although they will | :21:03. | :21:08.
perform, they cannot compete. These young dancers from Zimbabwe had a | :21:09. | :21:13.
smooth journey. It was quite easy because we had everything in place, | :21:14. | :21:17.
the acceptance letters. The guys here have been very supportive and | :21:18. | :21:22.
every document we needed, they have had in place. We didn't face many | :21:23. | :21:27.
challenges. From closer to home, Wrexham FC players took to a field | :21:28. | :21:32.
other than the racecourse to join the flag-waving. Now in its 68th | :21:33. | :21:39.
year, the Eisteddfod has been doing its bit for fellow senior citizens. | :21:40. | :21:43.
Numbers of the orchestra have been working with a care home to show the | :21:44. | :21:49.
medical benefits of music. It is an enormous impact on their well-being. | :21:50. | :21:54.
They engage more, they talk about it afterwards and it has a massive | :21:55. | :21:57.
impact on their lives. What we aim to do is bring enrichment to people | :21:58. | :22:03.
's lives. At first glance, there were many splashes of international | :22:04. | :22:08.
colour, as always. The parade through the town is a few flags | :22:09. | :22:13.
short on previous years. When Colin's welcome remains warm. | :22:14. | :22:17.
It has been an active day and we have seen reports of hail in | :22:18. | :22:31.
Swansea. Which, through tonight and we can look forward to something | :22:32. | :22:34.
drier and maybe some sunshine before sunset. Here is the radar showing | :22:35. | :22:39.
the extent of the showers. It did start off dry but the showers perked | :22:40. | :22:44.
up and some heavy ones, with the green across parts of made in South | :22:45. | :22:48.
Wales, where we had thunder. Much of that has cleared south eastwards. | :22:49. | :22:54.
Through tonight the showers will clear away and it will be dry with | :22:55. | :22:58.
clear spells. It will feel a touch cooler in the countryside. | :22:59. | :23:03.
Temperatures in the towns and cities between nine and 13 Celsius but in | :23:04. | :23:07.
those rural areas getting down to perhaps six or seven Celsius. The | :23:08. | :23:13.
pressure showing a weak ridge bringing settled conditions with it | :23:14. | :23:17.
but notice the two weather systems coming in from the east and west, | :23:18. | :23:20.
that will bring with it some unsettled conditions through | :23:21. | :23:25.
Thursday and Friday. Tomorrow is probably the best day of the week. | :23:26. | :23:29.
We can look forward to plenty of dry conditions and sunshine as well. We | :23:30. | :23:33.
might see a little bit of cloud bubbling up through the afternoon, | :23:34. | :23:38.
making the Centro hazy, but essentially it is dry and breezy | :23:39. | :23:41.
along coastal areas with temperatures between 17 Celsius and | :23:42. | :23:47.
21 Celsius in Cardiff. Through tomorrow night another quiet night | :23:48. | :23:51.
with clear skies overnight. Remaining dry with a bit of cloud in | :23:52. | :23:55.
parts of the West but for the majority of us, it is starry skies. | :23:56. | :24:05.
The winds light into Thursday morning. On Thursday we will see | :24:06. | :24:07.
that were different poaching parts of the East, bringing some cloud. | :24:08. | :24:12.
Much of the rain will stay in England with just some showers for | :24:13. | :24:16.
parts of the north-east and powerless. We can enjoy the rest of | :24:17. | :24:24.
the dry weather for the West. We have got brisk north-westerly winds | :24:25. | :24:30.
as well. Heading into Friday, we have got outbreaks of rain at times | :24:31. | :24:33.
and it will start to feel rather humid by the time we get to Friday | :24:34. | :24:37.
and Saturday. Outbreaks of light rain will play on Saturday and we | :24:38. | :24:41.
can look forward to some sunshine through the start of the weekend. By | :24:42. | :24:46.
Saturday afternoon there is the risk of showers and remaining unsettled | :24:47. | :24:51.
for the end of the weekend. Warmer for the end of the week. The best | :24:52. | :24:55.
day of the week probably on Wednesday. | :24:56. | :24:58.
The Environment Minister, Alun Davies, has been sacked after | :24:59. | :25:03.
asking civil servants to obtain personal financial information | :25:04. | :25:05.
about his political opponents that he would then use to smear them. | :25:06. | :25:13.
Let?s talk to our Welsh affairs editor, Vaughan Roderick. | :25:14. | :25:21.
Just how damaging is this? It is pretty damaging. Let's look at | :25:22. | :25:28.
the political context. Carwyn Jones has been a Teflon politician like | :25:29. | :25:33.
Rhodri Morgan before him, remaining popular in Wales more or less | :25:34. | :25:38.
whatever happens. That has started to change and over the last year or | :25:39. | :25:43.
so there has been a slow but steady drift downwards for Labour in the | :25:44. | :25:46.
polls, especially when it comes to assembly voting intentions. That is | :25:47. | :25:51.
because of the Pisa results in education, the attacks on the | :25:52. | :25:54.
stewardship of the health service and particularly the attacks from | :25:55. | :26:08.
the Labour MP Ann Clwyd. The Teflon Carwyn Jones is beginning to show | :26:09. | :26:13.
bits of rust. Privately MPs are saying he just wants to be picking | :26:14. | :26:18.
of Wales, that he is lazy. He has got counsellors who aren't happy | :26:19. | :26:20.
with his plans for local government reorganisation. The Teflon is | :26:21. | :26:26.
wearing out. And it doesn't do much for public | :26:27. | :26:32.
confidence in politicians, does it? Know, and part of the problem is | :26:33. | :26:35.
that party organisations are weakening. The head offices they had | :26:36. | :26:40.
to do research work, they have laid off a lot of people so the | :26:41. | :26:45.
temptation for them to use a civil servant or special adviser to elicit | :26:46. | :26:52.
information about the opponents, the temptation is there. Aled Davies -- | :26:53. | :27:01.
Alun Davies walked over the line. He then asked twice. He didn't do it | :27:02. | :27:09.
once, he did it twice. That was a few hours after being reprimanded | :27:10. | :27:14.
for breaking the ministerial code. And all of this with election | :27:15. | :27:18.
campaigns on the horizon. Just ten months until the next | :27:19. | :27:22.
general election and 22 months until the next assembly election. The | :27:23. | :27:27.
Welsh government had a planned grade of announcements for these couple of | :27:28. | :27:30.
weeks before the summer. That has been thrown out of the window, | :27:31. | :27:36.
really. All the narrative that they were planning to rule out over the | :27:37. | :27:39.
coming weeks, you can forget it. Everything for the week or so and | :27:40. | :27:44.
likely right up to the summer recess is going to be about Alun Davies. | :27:45. | :27:47.
Opposition parties won't let this go. | :27:48. | :27:48.
Thank you. When they built this place they said | :27:49. | :27:51.
it would be different to Westminster - the walls made of glass, | :27:52. | :27:54.
transparent politics where we could Tonight we've all had a good hard, | :27:55. | :27:57.
long, look and as one opposition politician said it | :27:58. | :28:01.
looks pretty grubby. Thank you for watching from all | :28:02. | :28:05.
of us on the programme, good night. | :28:06. | :28:09. |
