Welcome to Wales Today. Our top story: | :00:00. | :00:00.
Zac Smith weighed 50 stone before he paid for surgery in India. | :00:00. | :00:09.
Should the NHS here rethink how it treats obese patients? | :00:10. | :00:20.
Obesity is an illness in itself, this negative attitude that people | :00:21. | :00:28.
can sit and eat and gorge themselves into oblivion, that is the end | :00:29. | :00:34.
result, but it is the fact that leads people to that. | :00:35. | :00:36.
But with limited funds and increasing demand for cancer | :00:37. | :00:38.
and cardiac care, how does the NHS weigh up how to spend your money? | :00:39. | :00:57.
Myfanwy Alexander, Powys Council's Deputy Leader, | :00:58. | :00:58.
resigns after using racist language during a council meeting. | :00:59. | :01:02.
He drove up Snowdon. Illegal off-roading - | :01:03. | :01:04.
the damage done to the countryside is increasing. | :01:05. | :01:10.
And lights out across Wales - the British Legion thanks the public for | :01:11. | :01:13.
last night, marking the centenary of the start of the First World War. | :01:14. | :01:23.
A 50 stone man from the Vale of Glamorgan, who lost more than | :01:24. | :01:27.
half his body weight after paying for surgery in India, says the NHS | :01:28. | :01:31.
in Wales needs to rethink how they treat morbidly obese patients. | :01:32. | :01:36.
Thousands of people are waiting for gastric operations | :01:37. | :01:39.
because the criteria for carrying out the surgery here is stricter | :01:40. | :01:41.
But, with almost a quarter of adults classed as obese, funding treatment | :01:42. | :01:48.
In a moment, we'll look at those pressures. | :01:49. | :01:54.
First, Tim Rogers with Zac Smith's story. | :01:55. | :02:02.
At 50 stone, Zac Smith was eating himself into an early grave. In his | :02:03. | :02:16.
30s, he relied he needed help. I was not able to walk down the aisle of | :02:17. | :02:24.
the church. All I kept thinking was, you are next. He thought he would | :02:25. | :02:27.
qualify for an operation to reduce the size of his stomach but was | :02:28. | :02:32.
turned down under NHS rules in Wales. His only option was to go for | :02:33. | :02:38.
-- the -- go to India for a private operation. The surgery has since | :02:39. | :02:44.
helped him lose 27 stone. But after losing so much weight, Zac was left | :02:45. | :02:49.
with three stones of loose skin. He asked the NHS for another operation | :02:50. | :02:52.
to remove it, but he was again turned down. At six foot five, he | :02:53. | :02:57.
was told he would effectively have to reduce his weight to 12.5 stone. | :02:58. | :03:03.
I do not know how some of my size, my height, how I can get my weight | :03:04. | :03:16.
down to under that. So it was back to India, where he kept a video | :03:17. | :03:23.
diary, as he had another operation. Fingers crossed. The operation was a | :03:24. | :03:28.
success, but what followed came as an unpleasant surprise. His surgical | :03:29. | :03:31.
wound became infected and after flying home he had to spend two | :03:32. | :03:36.
weeks in an isolation ward in hospital. Ironically, this came at a | :03:37. | :03:41.
greater cost to the NHS than the savings they made by refusing the | :03:42. | :03:45.
bariatric surgery he asked for in the first place. | :03:46. | :03:49.
The Welsh Government has told us that the criteria for treatment is | :03:50. | :03:53.
being revised and plans are in place to increase funding for more | :03:54. | :03:59.
operations over the next five years. But doctors say without surgery | :04:00. | :04:03.
sooner, their patients will put greater demand on cancer, diabetes | :04:04. | :04:04.
and heart services. The term "obesity epidemic" | :04:05. | :04:07.
is now a well-worn phrase here in Wales, where almost a quarter | :04:08. | :04:09.
of adults are classed as obese and almost half of all men are | :04:10. | :04:12.
overweight by the age of 42. Poor diet and lack of exercise are | :04:13. | :04:17.
largely to blame and that's putting People who are overweight or obese | :04:18. | :04:20.
face a higher risk of chronic health problems, | :04:21. | :04:28.
including cardiovascular disease, The Welsh Government estimates that | :04:29. | :04:33.
costs our NHS at least ?1 million a week, possibly | :04:34. | :04:41.
as much as ?73 million a year. And it's not just paying for drugs | :04:42. | :04:50.
and doctors - bigger patients need bigger beds, and to transport the | :04:51. | :04:53.
obese, specially adapted ambulances. If we don't care about this, we are | :04:54. | :05:09.
going to find our NHS falling apart within the next 15 or 20 years. | :05:10. | :05:15.
Because the cost of treating the chronic diseases associated with | :05:16. | :05:19.
obesity are going to spiral out of control. | :05:20. | :05:20.
A stark warning from Jonathan Barry, but he could be part | :05:21. | :05:23.
He runs Wales' only specialist centre | :05:24. | :05:25.
for bariatric or weight-loss surgery at Swansea's Morriston Hospital. | :05:26. | :05:27.
He says thousands of people could benefit | :05:28. | :05:29.
from a gastric band, but in Wales the rules governing who's eligible | :05:30. | :05:32.
are too stringent, despite it being a very cost effective solution. | :05:33. | :05:43.
To suggest it is expensive surgery is a complete fallacy. We know these | :05:44. | :05:49.
operations pay for themselves within two and a half years. To put it into | :05:50. | :05:54.
context, a lot of these people have diabetes, hypertension, all those | :05:55. | :05:59.
conditions go away. Those conditions are very expensive to treat over the | :06:00. | :06:01.
next 30 or 40 years. In England, the National Institute | :06:02. | :06:02.
of Clinical Excellence has far less stringent rules for accesing | :06:03. | :06:05.
bariatric surgery, and as the crisis worsens in Wales, the Health Service | :06:06. | :06:07.
here has now pledged to catch up, but they admit it's | :06:08. | :06:10.
a difficult balancing act. We have to prioritise between Cancer | :06:11. | :06:23.
care, care for elderly people, cardiovascular services, as well as | :06:24. | :06:28.
examining what we can do for people who are obese. A difficult set of | :06:29. | :06:33.
choices, but the decision has been made to do more, to go from 80 | :06:34. | :06:38.
operations per year to 300 per year, which would actually catch up with | :06:39. | :06:43.
the current English number of operations. | :06:44. | :06:44.
The Welsh Government say bariatric surgery is not a magic bullet and | :06:45. | :06:47.
They say they'll continue to tackle obesity through targeted education, | :06:48. | :06:51.
encouraging the right lifestyle choices | :06:52. | :06:52.
If that doesn't work, some may question whether the NHS | :06:53. | :06:57.
should be funding more gastric band surgery for what is largely | :06:58. | :06:59.
But others would argue the simple economics suggest | :07:00. | :07:07.
More on this story in Week In, Week Out, | :07:08. | :07:14.
at 10:40 tonight here on BBC One Wales. | :07:15. | :07:20.
Public Health Wales has confirmed that one person is voluntarily | :07:21. | :07:23.
staying off work and limiting their contact with | :07:24. | :07:26.
other people after possible exposure to the Ebola virus. | :07:27. | :07:29.
The individual does not have symptoms, and there are no cases of | :07:30. | :07:32.
Ebola in Wales, but the precaution has been taken after the person | :07:33. | :07:35.
Campaigners hoping to reverse the decision to close inpatient beds at | :07:36. | :07:51.
Ceredigion hospital have been given permission for a judicial review. | :07:52. | :07:55.
The group argued the health board should have consulted on the plan. | :07:56. | :07:59.
The health board says it feels it complied with its legal | :08:00. | :08:02.
obligations, but will continue to work with the court. | :08:03. | :08:05.
A Deputy Leader of Powys Council has resigned after using a racial | :08:06. | :08:08.
Myfanwy Alexander used the N-word in a debate about cross-border | :08:09. | :08:12.
She apologised, but insisted she wouldn't be resigning. | :08:13. | :08:17.
Let's talk to our political reporter Paul, Martin. | :08:18. | :08:19.
A week is a long time in politics - what's changed? | :08:20. | :08:26.
It is fair to say that her assessment of the dash rang her | :08:27. | :08:32.
behaviour has not changed, but other key factors have. To recap, she used | :08:33. | :08:37.
the N word when trying to describe how she thinks some vulnerable | :08:38. | :08:41.
people in her award, whose first language in Welsh, are treated when | :08:42. | :08:45.
they go to hospital and across-the-board in England. She was | :08:46. | :08:48.
clear last week she was wrong to use the word, but it was a resignation | :08:49. | :08:53.
-- was not a resignation issue. The position of the Council Leader, | :08:54. | :08:56.
Barry Thomas, is what has changed. He runs a group of independent | :08:57. | :09:01.
councillors in Powys who do not have overall control of the council. If | :09:02. | :09:05.
opposition groups are unhappy, they can cause problems for the | :09:06. | :09:08.
leadership. Opposition groups have not been happy. They think it was a | :09:09. | :09:14.
resignation issue, so do the Unison union and was talk of them bringing | :09:15. | :09:17.
a vote of no-confidence in the leadership. Last week Barry Thomas | :09:18. | :09:22.
was clear she did not need to go, today, Myfanwy Alexander has told us | :09:23. | :09:26.
that following pressure from the opposition, Barry Thomas has said | :09:27. | :09:30.
she does have to go. To me, resignation is an admission | :09:31. | :09:36.
in some sense that is -- there is a case to answer and I do not believe | :09:37. | :09:40.
there is. I used a foolish and insulting word that I should not | :09:41. | :09:44.
have used. I apologise fully for that and the vast majority of people | :09:45. | :09:48.
I have spoken to accept that. I can be responsible for my own actions | :09:49. | :09:52.
and I can be sorry for my own actions, but the actions of | :09:53. | :09:55.
opposition groups are beyond my control. | :09:56. | :09:59.
What has the reaction been? Unsurprisingly, perhaps, the | :10:00. | :10:03.
opposition groups have welcomed the decision, saying it was inevitable | :10:04. | :10:06.
and overdue. In her resignation letter, Myfanwy Alexander made some | :10:07. | :10:12.
broader points about politics in Powys. She said there is a toxic | :10:13. | :10:17.
nature of division that led to the pressure on her, and she said anyone | :10:18. | :10:21.
hoping to make any difference that -- to the people of Powys sit -- | :10:22. | :10:25.
should not bother going into politics. Barry Thomas was | :10:26. | :10:32.
unavailable today, but he did say in a statement that he accepts her | :10:33. | :10:33.
resignation. Police are investigating the death | :10:34. | :10:35.
of a man in his 20s, thought to have been found at the Aberystwyth Arts | :10:36. | :10:38.
Centre, on the university campus. His body was found on Monday night | :10:39. | :10:41.
and is being treated as unexplained. A group trying to reopen | :10:42. | :10:44.
a leisure centre in Wrexham has had its bid for a ?50,000 grant rejected | :10:45. | :10:52.
by councillors. Plas Madoc Centre was closed earlier | :10:53. | :10:56.
this year as part of budget cuts. The Splash Community Trust are | :10:57. | :11:00.
working to get it reopened. The building is due to be demolished | :11:01. | :11:04.
by the end of September. Wales and Cardiff Blues centre | :11:05. | :11:09.
Owen Williams is making progress following a significant spinal cord | :11:10. | :11:11.
injury six weeks ago. The 22-year-old, who posted this | :11:12. | :11:15.
photo on social media while recovering at Rookwood Hospital, | :11:16. | :11:18.
has seen improvements in his arms. He'll also be progressing to | :11:19. | :11:23.
sitting up in the next few weeks. A statement, released by the Blues, | :11:24. | :11:27.
says while it's still early days, Illegal off-roading using motorbikes | :11:28. | :11:30.
and 4x4s in forests and Natural Resources Wales say it's | :11:31. | :11:38.
joined forces with North Wales Police and landowners to | :11:39. | :11:42.
restrict access to protected areas. It's claimed that vehicles are | :11:43. | :11:48.
damaging property Illegal off-roading means taking | :11:49. | :11:49.
a vehicle anywhere This is one | :11:50. | :11:56.
of the more extreme cases - the driver of this 4x4 was jailed | :11:57. | :12:00.
last year for dangerous driving The forests and fields of | :12:01. | :12:03.
North Wales were a major draw for organisers of the | :12:04. | :12:13.
Wales Rally GB, but while this has been carefully managed to allow | :12:14. | :12:15.
vehicles legal access to the countryside, that doesn't mean | :12:16. | :12:17.
the same rule applies elsewhere. This is a special conservation | :12:18. | :12:30.
area. It is an internationally important landscape. These sorts of | :12:31. | :12:36.
activities are not allowed here. Just because we have these organised | :12:37. | :12:39.
events, it does not mean anyone else can come and carry on as they | :12:40. | :12:41.
choose. Haf Morris owns a farm | :12:42. | :12:42.
in the Ceiriog Valley near Wrexham. As well as facing abuse from illegal | :12:43. | :12:45.
off-roaders who use her land, she's We had to put locks on the gates, | :12:46. | :12:59.
and the last lot came up and drove through the gates. They broke them | :13:00. | :13:06.
in half. They then went up onto our private land and made a mess. It was | :13:07. | :13:10.
the end of March and you know what a wet winter we had. | :13:11. | :13:18.
Sergeant Wesley Williams is on patrol in parkland in Wrexham. | :13:19. | :13:20.
It's a hotspot for youngsters on motorbikes. | :13:21. | :13:27.
We have had a couple of accidents not too far away from here, where | :13:28. | :13:33.
young men have come off their bikes and have had significant injuries as | :13:34. | :13:38.
a result of being on the bikes and coming off them. | :13:39. | :13:39.
In an attempt to reduce the problem, police and Natural Resources Wales | :13:40. | :13:42.
have joined forces to build barriers and increase signs across rural | :13:43. | :13:44.
Legal routes are available usually run by clubs | :13:45. | :13:47.
and offer all the thrills without harming the environment. | :13:48. | :13:56.
This is Wales Today. Much more to come before seven o'clock. | :13:57. | :14:03.
Here on the Maes, we will be finding out how important the Eisteddfod is | :14:04. | :14:08.
for Welsh business, looking to boost sales and making new contacts. | :14:09. | :14:12.
And lights out across Wales, the British Legion thanks the public | :14:13. | :14:15.
were last night, marking the centenary of the start of the First | :14:16. | :14:17.
World War. The Deputy Prime Minister says he | :14:18. | :14:20.
wants to see a pledge for further devolution to Wales, | :14:21. | :14:22.
similar to the offer in Scotland. In the event of a No vote in next | :14:23. | :14:26.
month's independence referendum, Nick Clegg signed a declaration | :14:27. | :14:29.
along with the other two UK party leaders to guarantee devolution | :14:30. | :14:32.
of more powers to Scotland, Here's our political reporter, | :14:33. | :14:35.
James Williams. Glasgow's Games have been hailed as | :14:36. | :14:51.
the best ever. A success for Scotland both on and off the track, | :14:52. | :14:54.
as the eyes of the Commonwealth, if not the world, were watching. But in | :14:55. | :14:59.
truth, Scotland has caught the public attention for years now as it | :15:00. | :15:03.
reaches the final stretch on the track to an historic independence | :15:04. | :15:07.
vote. Before that, Wales will have its own day in the sun when the NATO | :15:08. | :15:12.
summit comes to town. This is one of the venues that world leaders could | :15:13. | :15:15.
be dining at as part of the conference. Cardiff Castle has | :15:16. | :15:19.
long, historic connections with Scotland. But this place could play | :15:20. | :15:24.
its part at the start of September in shifting attention to Wales. -- | :15:25. | :15:27.
attention. It is something Nick Clegg would like to see. He visited | :15:28. | :15:32.
the Cardiff office of British Gas on the day he signed a pledge with | :15:33. | :15:36.
David Cameron and Ed Miliband to guarantee the devolution of more | :15:37. | :15:40.
powers to Scotland, should the country but against independence. | :15:41. | :15:43.
What about a similar pledge for Wales? I think it would be great if | :15:44. | :15:49.
we could do the same thing in Wales. I think the example of what we are | :15:50. | :15:54.
doing in Scotland will actually increase the likelihood of a | :15:55. | :16:00.
cross-party consensus in favour of further devolution to Wales. Plaid | :16:01. | :16:04.
Cymru are certainly making their stance on the referendum known. Do | :16:05. | :16:09.
they think this Unionist move spikes the guns of the Yes campaign is Mac | :16:10. | :16:16.
we have heard all this before. They promised jam tomorrow and when it | :16:17. | :16:21.
comes to it, the three main parties in London failed to deliver. The | :16:22. | :16:25.
only way that people in Scotland can be sure of getting more powers is to | :16:26. | :16:31.
vote yes on September the 18th. The scene is set, tonight sees the first | :16:32. | :16:36.
TV debate between the opposing sides of the campaign. The terms and | :16:37. | :16:40.
topics of the debate in Glasgow are well rehearsed, but the | :16:41. | :16:42.
referendum's affect on Wales is less sure. Entrance of what additional | :16:43. | :16:48.
powers are offered to Scotland, the parties do not agree so I will -- I | :16:49. | :16:52.
think we will have to see the results of the General Election, if | :16:53. | :16:56.
there has been a No vote, to know what this means for Wales. It is | :16:57. | :17:02.
true to say that Scotland is a point of comparison for Wales. If Moore is | :17:03. | :17:06.
offered to Scotland, there will be pressure in Wales to catch up. There | :17:07. | :17:11.
is little over a month before Wales hosts the NATO summit and just some | :17:12. | :17:15.
six weeks until Scotland decides. But the debate on the effect of the | :17:16. | :17:20.
referendum on Wales has only just begun. | :17:21. | :17:22.
The National Eisteddfod is in full swing at Llanelli. | :17:23. | :17:24.
Our reporter Cemlyn Davies is there for us this evening. | :17:25. | :17:26.
Yes, diolch, Jamie. I'm in the visitor centre this evening and | :17:27. | :17:29.
as you can see, people are pouring through here, leaving the Eisteddfod | :17:30. | :17:32.
But as well as being a place to meet up with old friends | :17:33. | :17:42.
and enjoy performances on the stage, the Eisteddfod is a shop window | :17:43. | :17:44.
There are more than 300 stalls on the Maes, | :17:45. | :17:48.
selling everything from art and books to T-shirts and jewellery. | :17:49. | :17:50.
Rhodri Lewis has been asking stallholders how important | :17:51. | :17:52.
For decades, the Eisteddfod has been known for this. | :17:53. | :18:04.
But nowadays it's also known for this. | :18:05. | :18:07.
Small businesses from all over Wales come here every year, set up stalls | :18:08. | :18:10.
Cowbois has been part of the maes for more than 20 years. | :18:11. | :18:15.
Sales during Eisteddfod week are critical to a company which, | :18:16. | :18:18.
apart from its appearances here, only exists online. | :18:19. | :18:26.
The Eisteddfod is very important to showcase the company and show our | :18:27. | :18:32.
products. We can also introduce new products as well. We can gain a new | :18:33. | :18:36.
clients. It is very important and also, it is an economic way of | :18:37. | :18:40.
advertising the company throughout Wales. | :18:41. | :18:41.
There are more than 300 stands at this year's Eisteddfod. | :18:42. | :18:45.
They'll each have paid at least ?815 to be here. | :18:46. | :18:48.
The flip side is that the festival is worth between ?6-8 | :18:49. | :18:50.
Crefftau y Bont is part of that economy. | :18:51. | :19:04.
Based just a few miles from here in Pontarddulais, | :19:05. | :19:07.
its owner says the chance to network here is too good to miss. | :19:08. | :19:13.
There is no other opportunity we would have to be able to go to the | :19:14. | :19:18.
Welsh event, meet other Welsh business people and food producers, | :19:19. | :19:24.
craft makers, and to meet local Government people who are very | :19:25. | :19:25.
interested in what we can do. But it's not just about buying | :19:26. | :19:27.
and selling. Amidst the jewellery and paintings, | :19:28. | :19:29.
this solicitor's company is here for the first time, | :19:30. | :19:31.
but what's in it for them? We have recently expanded into West | :19:32. | :19:42.
Wales. Last month, we opened an office in Carmarthen. So it was an | :19:43. | :19:48.
excellent decision to have the Eisteddfod here, to raise awareness. | :19:49. | :19:57.
How good is it for business? I am quite surprised we are here, I | :19:58. | :20:02.
think. But it is good, people have not been aware we have opened an | :20:03. | :20:06.
office here, they are interested, we are employing people from Carmarthen | :20:07. | :20:10.
in the office so it is good for business. | :20:11. | :20:11.
The Eisteddfod has always been a showcase for welsh culture, | :20:12. | :20:13.
but these days that's expanded to give Welsh businesses a shop window | :20:14. | :20:16.
In other news here, two safes holding | :20:17. | :20:20.
around ?6,000 were stolen from the visitor centre here over night. | :20:21. | :20:24.
Police search teams with dogs have been investigating. | :20:25. | :20:27.
Eisteddfod officials say the cash taken was float money, | :20:28. | :20:29.
Well, in the Pavilion today the main ceremony saw the | :20:30. | :20:38.
Daniel Owen Memorial Prize awarded for the Best Novel. | :20:39. | :20:40.
And the winner was Lleucu Roberts from Rhostryfan near Caernarfon. | :20:41. | :20:45.
She takes away ?5,000 for her book, Rhwng Edafedd. | :20:46. | :20:50.
The judges said the writer showed she has a sound | :20:51. | :20:52.
And remember you can keep up to date with all the events, online. | :20:53. | :21:02.
There's live coverage of all the action from the Pavilion, | :21:03. | :21:13.
with English commentary, as well as results, video highlights | :21:14. | :21:15.
Well, that's it from the Eisteddfod, tomorrow we will find | :21:16. | :21:31.
out if anybody has one the pros and musicians' medals and we will have | :21:32. | :21:34.
the latest right here on Wales Today. | :21:35. | :21:35.
The Royal British Legion in Wales says it's delighted with | :21:36. | :21:37.
the response to its request to switch off our lights | :21:38. | :21:40.
last night to mark the centenary of the start of World War I. | :21:41. | :21:43.
Across Wales there were more than 200 organised events. | :21:44. | :21:47.
The Welsh national commemoration service in Llandaff Cathedral heard | :21:48. | :21:49.
A darkened street, and in the window, solitary candle, many across | :21:50. | :22:05.
Wales did join the lights out, Mauritian. -- lights out | :22:06. | :22:11.
commemoration. In Llandaff Cathedral, 350 people took part in | :22:12. | :22:17.
the Welsh National Opera is. It was watched across Wales on television. | :22:18. | :22:22.
The Royal family was represented by the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. | :22:23. | :22:29.
A poem was red by the First Minister. | :22:30. | :22:43.
From the Archbishop Kim McCall for us all to strive for peace. There | :22:44. | :22:46.
was a message of peace and goodwill from the young people of Wales. In | :22:47. | :22:52.
2014, this message asks world leaders to reconcile with each other | :22:53. | :22:58.
and to follow the paths of peace. Across Wales, there were more than | :22:59. | :23:03.
200 organised events, an echo of the then Foreign Secretary' Mark that | :23:04. | :23:07.
the declaration of war would put the labs out across Europe. There was a | :23:08. | :23:12.
torchlight procession at the highest point in the mountain range. In | :23:13. | :23:20.
Carnarvon, there was a vigil. The faces of some of those who went | :23:21. | :23:25.
to war projected onto a wall in Bangor, created by an artist, which | :23:26. | :23:31.
shows the men behind the uniforms. Ewe to me, looking at these photos | :23:32. | :23:37.
on the wall, they are real men, more than names. It is a wonderful way of | :23:38. | :23:42.
commemorating, not celebrating, what happened. It is really important to | :23:43. | :23:48.
remember what happened. They were doing something, they did not know | :23:49. | :23:51.
what they were going to the face -- what they were going to face. This | :23:52. | :23:57.
has affected me tonight. It touches the old heartstrings. | :23:58. | :24:05.
At the commemoration service, the lights of Llandaff Cathedral were | :24:06. | :24:08.
dimmed for a period of silence, leaving a single candle burning. And | :24:09. | :24:16.
at 11 p.m., the hour was declared, and a told across the city. Wales | :24:17. | :24:24.
remembers. Cardiff midfielder George Mutch has | :24:25. | :24:27.
left the club and sign for Queens Park Rangers. The deal was believed | :24:28. | :24:33.
to be worth ?6 million. He is the second Cardiff player to sign for a | :24:34. | :24:37.
London club this summer following the transfer of steam and quarter. | :24:38. | :24:44.
The hopes of reaching the women's Rugby World Cup semifinals have been | :24:45. | :24:48.
crushed by Australia. They lost by 25 points to three. Wales will play | :24:49. | :24:52.
against South Africa in their final match on Saturday, but no have no | :24:53. | :24:55.
chance of progressing in the competition. | :24:56. | :25:05.
Time now for a look at the weather. Thanks, welcome back to Llanelli. | :25:06. | :25:10.
What a great location for the Eisteddfod. The views across the | :25:11. | :25:14.
water towards North Gower are stunning. Looking West, along the | :25:15. | :25:22.
Carmarthen shirt coast. It is also a great spot for keeping an eye on the | :25:23. | :25:25.
weather, which is changing again. But we have been lucky here today. | :25:26. | :25:31.
In Welshpool, there has been torrential rain, thunder and flash | :25:32. | :25:34.
floods this afternoon. There is more rain on the way, but if you're | :25:35. | :25:39.
coming to the Eisteddfod tomorrow, good news, it will be dry and | :25:40. | :25:44.
bright, sunny in the afternoon, breezier than today. Highs of 19. | :25:45. | :25:49.
This evening, any heavy showers will fade. Dry for a time, but it will | :25:50. | :25:52.
not last. Rain will spread across the whole country during the | :25:53. | :25:57.
evening. A spell of heavy rain clearing later, lowest temperatures | :25:58. | :26:04.
14 to 17. The truck tomorrow shows low pressure over the Atlantic. -- | :26:05. | :26:12.
the chart. Tomorrow, fairly decent day with plenty of dry and bright | :26:13. | :26:16.
weather, some sunshine. There could be the odd light shower. But not as | :26:17. | :26:20.
heavy as today. Temperatures 18 to 20 Celsius. 22 in Monmouthshire. | :26:21. | :26:27.
Tomorrow night, dry with clear spells, a few mist patches forming. | :26:28. | :26:34.
Slightly cooler than tonight, 12 to 16 Celsius. Thursday promises to be | :26:35. | :26:38.
a decent day, and nice day, dry with sunny spells, warm with light winds. | :26:39. | :26:43.
Friday, we may get away with a dry day, perhaps a few showers in the | :26:44. | :26:50.
South. Saturday, not so bad, but a word of warning, we could be in for | :26:51. | :26:53.
some rough weather on Sunday as the remains of a Tropical Storm Manuel | :26:54. | :26:56.
moves in from the Atlantic. -- Tropical Storm Washi. -- Bertha. So, | :26:57. | :27:05.
more rain on the way tonight but it will clear, leaving a mostly dry and | :27:06. | :27:09.
bright day in Llanelli. Thank you very much. | :27:10. | :27:12.
It's coming up to seven o'clock, the headlines again: | :27:13. | :27:14.
A 50 stone man from the Vale of Glamorgan, who lost more than | :27:15. | :27:17.
half his body weight after paying for surgery in India, says the NHS | :27:18. | :27:21.
in Wales needs to rethink how they treat morbidly obese patients. | :27:22. | :27:25.
The Welsh Government says it is planning to increase | :27:26. | :27:27.
I will have an update for you at 8pm and again after the BBC News at Ten. | :27:28. | :27:43.
Thank you for watching, from all of us here, good evening. | :27:44. | :27:48. |
