More than 750 homes in Blaenau Gwent are still without gas tonight

after water got into supply pipes earlier this week.

Repair work has been continuing today but people living in Nantyglo

are expected to be without gas for the whole

of the bank holiday weekend. Natasha Livingstone reports.

Theresa Paul can only prepare meals for her children by using this hot

plate. She's been given it along with fan heaters to get by

as she spends her third day without a gas supply.

She's one of hundreds in Nantyglo affected.

It's terrible. Like I said, at the end of the day

you're struggling. I can't cook much for them.

I've got a gas cooker. Fair play, I've got that.

Water got into the gas pipes after a mains burst in the area on Thursday.

Engineers visited every home affecte to make sure the gas was turned off.

Wales and West Utilities have been working round the clock

to get the gas supply back up and running here.

They've already pumped out 100,000 litres of water

but it's not clear how much is left in the system so they can't say

All we can say is we will work continuously throughout

the bank holiday weekend until it is done.

Unless there is an unforeseen problem.

But even if it is just days, residents say it is too long.

Some have turned to the local housing association for advice.

We've given out over 130 heaters and given out microwaves

and table top cooking facilities and we're here to make sure we can

respond to the ongoing needs of our tenants.

Leisure centres at Ebbw Vale and Abertillery are open

Wales and West Utilities say it is doing all it can to help those

affected and will continue to do so until the problem is fixed.

different agencies came together before the event.

We started this process quite late in terms of preparing

the Championships, that being in January 2013.

Since then we've had tremendous support from the Welsh Government,

Swansea University, Disability Sport Wales.

Everything's gone really, really well with the organising committee

and then we can tell from the feedback that we're getting

from the teams and from the athletes, they're loving it here

and we've been very lucky with the weather as well which also helps.
