The MP for Caerphilly turns on his own party leader | :00:00. | :00:10.
Jeremy Corbyn following the vote to attack in Syria. | :00:11. | :00:18.
There is a great deal of concern about his stance on a range of | :00:19. | :00:25.
different issues. Particularly defending this country. | :00:26. | :00:27.
And an MP says some of those who voted for air strikes | :00:28. | :00:30.
Several members have had their offices allocated. One member had | :00:31. | :00:42.
her House surrounded. Many had photos of dead babies pushed through | :00:43. | :00:43.
the front door. London has Boris Johnson - should | :00:44. | :00:55.
Welsh cities have an elected mayor? Scallop dredging in Cardigan Bay | :00:56. | :01:01.
ended to protect wildlife, but the tide could be turning with | :01:02. | :01:08.
plans for it to begin once again. And back after a cancer scare | :01:09. | :01:12.
and injury - cyclist Becky James prepares to | :01:13. | :01:14.
compete at the Cycling World Cup. Less than 24 hours after MPs voted | :01:15. | :01:22.
to allow RAF air strikes against so-called Islamic State targets | :01:23. | :01:27.
in Syria, the political arguments A senior Welsh Labour MP, | :01:28. | :01:29.
who backed military action, has launched an outspoken attack | :01:30. | :01:35.
on his leader, Jeremy Corbyn. And another has claimed that some | :01:36. | :01:39.
MPs who voted for air strikes had Here's our parliamentary | :01:40. | :01:42.
correspondent, David Cornock. Tornado jets take off from an RAF | :01:43. | :02:01.
base in Cyprus. The targets are said to be Islamic state-controlled oil | :02:02. | :02:05.
fields in eastern Syria. The first mission came hours after the | :02:06. | :02:15.
debate. I voted against air strikes. I have seen the terrible atrocities | :02:16. | :02:19.
in Paris. Something needs to be done about Isil but I was not convinced | :02:20. | :02:24.
with the Prime Minister's strategy. Just one day after one of the most | :02:25. | :02:29.
lament as debates in years one senior Labour MP launched an attack | :02:30. | :02:34.
on his leader. There is a great deal of concern about his stance on | :02:35. | :02:37.
arrange of different issues, particularly defending this country. | :02:38. | :02:41.
I have offered to work closely with him and help him prepare his | :02:42. | :02:48.
speeches. That has not been taken up but the offer is still there. How | :02:49. | :02:54.
did you MP vote? 15 voted for military action. 11 Welsh | :02:55. | :02:59.
Conservatives voted with the Government and were joined by four | :03:00. | :03:08.
Labour MPs. 24 MPs opposed bombing. One Welsh MP is unwell but says she | :03:09. | :03:16.
would have voted for air strikes. After the vote one MP who defied | :03:17. | :03:21.
leadership explained his decision. It is not a perfect solution but | :03:22. | :03:24.
there was a strong enough case for the limited air strikes proposed. | :03:25. | :03:29.
This is not about a mass invasion or a major bombing operation, this is | :03:30. | :03:32.
about precision strikes by aircraft, some of which are already | :03:33. | :03:36.
operating over the skies of Syria and ushered operating over the skies | :03:37. | :03:41.
of Iraq. Messages such as these have been | :03:42. | :03:49.
sent on social media. In the Commons a member of the | :03:50. | :03:55.
Shadow Cabinet led calls for action. Several members have had their | :03:56. | :04:00.
offices barricaded. One member had her House surrounded. Many had | :04:01. | :04:04.
photos of dead babies pushed through their front door at home. Today some | :04:05. | :04:10.
members have received photos of severed heads. MPs have brought | :04:11. | :04:14.
shoulders but can I ask the leader to review the arrangement | :04:15. | :04:20.
surrounding the security of member's homes and offices. Some MPs | :04:21. | :04:25.
who voted against the leader now fear they could be targeted by his | :04:26. | :04:30.
supporters and deselected. Jeremy Corbyn says there is no place for | :04:31. | :04:33.
believing in his party. But last night 's vote showed deep Labour | :04:34. | :04:36.
divisions. In a moment we'll hear from one | :04:37. | :04:41.
of those four Welsh Labour MPs who voted for the air strikes, | :04:42. | :04:45.
Wayne David. Davies has been to his constituency | :04:46. | :04:51.
of Caerphilly to find out what Destroying the fortress | :04:52. | :04:55.
of so-called Islamic State. That's what MPs voted for - | :04:56. | :05:00.
including the MP of Caerphilly, I am glad he has done that. That is | :05:01. | :05:16.
one good thing he has done. As long as they don't do like Iraq. They | :05:17. | :05:22.
swept through but there was no plan for after it chaos. Some Labour MPs | :05:23. | :05:29.
who voted as he did say they are getting bullied now. It doesn't | :05:30. | :05:35.
shock me. If you do not go with the flow, especially with Jeremy Corbyn | :05:36. | :05:38.
being in power, he is a pacifist, isn't he? Wayne David says Jeremy | :05:39. | :05:44.
Corbyn has a lot to learn. Who knows whether the votes of MPs | :05:45. | :05:48.
like Wayne David will help the civil war in Syria that's | :05:49. | :05:52.
dragged on for years. But what's certain is the Labour | :05:53. | :05:55.
party high command here in Wales could do without a civil war | :05:56. | :05:58.
in their own ranks when they're supposed to be fighting | :05:59. | :06:00.
next year's Assembly election. Carwyn Jones said last night he | :06:01. | :06:11.
would have voted against more bombing. | :06:12. | :06:15.
I'm not against air strikes in principle but | :06:16. | :06:17.
if you want to bring peace to Syria then you've got to have a plan. | :06:18. | :06:21.
Bleak, that's the future for Labour, according to Wayne David, unless | :06:22. | :06:24.
Live now to our Parliamentary Correspondent David | :06:25. | :06:26.
Wayne David, one of those for Welsh Labour MPs to vote with the | :06:27. | :06:39.
Government is with me now. Jeremy Corbyn got most Labour MPs onside. | :06:40. | :06:44.
The First Minister agrees with him on the air strikes. Why are you out | :06:45. | :06:49.
of step with your leader? I listened to the arguments very carefully both | :06:50. | :06:53.
for and against military action and I decided that the appropriate | :06:54. | :06:57.
course of action, the best way to defend the people of this country, | :06:58. | :07:03.
was to support military action. I respect your view of Jeremy Corbyn | :07:04. | :07:07.
and I hope he will respect my view and the views of my colleagues. But | :07:08. | :07:11.
you see cannot put together a coherent indictment, that is not | :07:12. | :07:15.
respecting his view. To his credit he talks about an honest | :07:16. | :07:20.
straightforward politics. I am being honest. His leadership so far has | :07:21. | :07:31.
not been -- has been poor. He has an exceptional mandate and he needs to | :07:32. | :07:37.
pull together. He needs to be an effective Leader of the Opposition | :07:38. | :07:41.
but more reportedly he needs to be a potential Prime Minister of this | :07:42. | :07:44.
country. At the moment he has got a long way to go. You clearly think he | :07:45. | :07:48.
is not up to the job and presumably think you should go. I do not. But | :07:49. | :07:53.
it is important that we all work together and have a collective | :07:54. | :07:57.
leadership. Jeremy Corbyn has been on the backbenches for the last 30 | :07:58. | :08:00.
years was obvious there been on the front bench before. He is on a steep | :08:01. | :08:05.
learning curve. We must work closely with him and he must in turn work | :08:06. | :08:11.
closely with us. You have had a fair response in terms of volume to your | :08:12. | :08:15.
vote last night. Is that not democracy? People will use social | :08:16. | :08:20.
media to challenge your views on these big issues. And so they | :08:21. | :08:25.
should. I have had representations for and against. People have aspirin | :08:26. | :08:32.
more explanation of my decision. But what is not acceptable as the abuse | :08:33. | :08:35.
that some members of Parliament, including myself, have had from | :08:36. | :08:40.
people, sometimes inside the Labour Party, from a small minority. That | :08:41. | :08:44.
is not democratic and should not take place. And in the meantime you | :08:45. | :08:48.
will continue on the front bench? Yes, I have got a job to do and I | :08:49. | :08:52.
will work with Jeremy Corbyn as long as he wants me. Thank you. | :08:53. | :08:57.
The first Syrian refugees to arrive in Wales this month will settle | :08:58. | :09:02.
in Torfaen, Ceredigion, Neath Port Talbot and Caerphilly. | :09:03. | :09:07.
About 50 people are due to arrive from refugee camps before Christmas | :09:08. | :09:10.
- the first of about 1,000 coming to Wales over the next five years. | :09:11. | :09:16.
It's hoped the electrification of the Great Western mainline to | :09:17. | :09:18.
Swansea can be completed by 2020 or 2021. | :09:19. | :09:29.
That's according to the UK Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin. | :09:30. | :09:31.
His comments follow the publication of a report | :09:32. | :09:35.
by Network Rail last week which said the work between London | :09:36. | :09:37.
and Cardiff would be completed by 2019, but that it may take another | :09:38. | :09:40.
He says he understands the frustration of people there. | :09:41. | :09:46.
Once we get to Cardiff I want to carry on. We will have electrocuted | :09:47. | :09:55.
to Cardiff by 2019. I then want us to carry on to Swansea. It is very | :09:56. | :10:01.
important. -- electrification to Cardiff. | :10:02. | :10:04.
The UK Government's Broadcasting Minister Ed Vaizey has said S4C is | :10:05. | :10:06.
That's despite concern over cuts in the Welsh-language channel's | :10:07. | :10:09.
It's being reduced from 6.7 million to 5 million by 2020. | :10:10. | :10:16.
MPs say the Government's broken its promise to safeguard | :10:17. | :10:18.
But most of the channel's funding comes via the BBC licence fee. | :10:19. | :10:24.
S4C is adequately funded, it is extremely generously funded, it's | :10:25. | :10:26.
It will continue to receive a generous grant from my department. | :10:27. | :10:32.
It is more generously funded than any other media organisation | :10:33. | :10:35.
A campaign for Cardiff to have an elected mayor | :10:36. | :10:42.
It will be organised by a key figure from previous successful | :10:43. | :10:47.
To get a Yes-No referendum, around 24,000 people in Cardiff | :10:48. | :10:52.
Here's our political reporter Paul Martin. | :10:53. | :10:58.
Comfortably the most high-profile elected mayor in England, but | :10:59. | :11:00.
That was the verdict in Ceredigion in 2004, the only Welsh council area | :11:01. | :11:24.
Now there is a move to get a referendum for a mayor | :11:25. | :11:28.
Darren Hill is organising a campaign to get 10% of Cardiff voters, | :11:29. | :11:32.
around 24,000 people, to sign a petition for a yes, no referendum. | :11:33. | :11:36.
I'm confident from the conversations I have had with | :11:37. | :11:38.
people on a cross-party basis and from no party at all that there's | :11:39. | :11:42.
It's a new, fresh idea and I think think people will be interested in | :11:43. | :11:59.
And people don't have to look too far for a neighbouring city with | :12:00. | :12:02.
Independent George Ferguson became Bristol Mayor in 2012. | :12:03. | :12:05.
Some say the rise of mayors in England has given cities added | :12:06. | :12:08.
status and profile and put pressure on Cardiff to have | :12:09. | :12:10.
So three years since George Ferguson was elected here, | :12:11. | :12:14.
A mayor has not made an impact to my life. | :12:15. | :12:23.
I can't see any presence from a mayor. | :12:24. | :12:25.
I don't know what the mayor of Bristol does. | :12:26. | :12:28.
He seems quite approachable, sort of one of the people. | :12:29. | :12:32.
He has managed to transmit that quite well I think. | :12:33. | :12:42.
The local paper back the idea of a referendum. As a city we have become | :12:43. | :12:52.
more decisive. But not everybody likes him. Not everybody voted for | :12:53. | :12:56.
him. He is one person leading an entire city and that is good to be | :12:57. | :12:58.
controversial in any city. Back in Cardiff, | :12:59. | :13:00.
there is scepticism. There is no proven benefits, | :13:01. | :13:02.
it is also completely the wrong time, because we are | :13:03. | :13:04.
talking about local government reorganisation, where local | :13:05. | :13:06.
authorities are coming together, Cardiff had an elected mayor | :13:07. | :13:17.
throughout the 19th century. One of them is a mortal eyes and a city | :13:18. | :13:22.
centre. If enough people sign the possession and the yes side wins the | :13:23. | :13:28.
referendum and modern day successor would be probably elected in the | :13:29. | :13:30.
summer of 2017. Still to come | :13:31. | :13:40.
in the programme tonight: It was banned to protect wildlife | :13:41. | :13:41.
like these dolphins - now plans to reintroduce scallop dredging have | :13:42. | :13:44.
angered enviromental campaigners. And after all the recent rain - | :13:45. | :13:46.
a much drier, We'll have a full forecast | :13:47. | :13:48.
in a few minutes. As the Climate Summit is held in | :13:49. | :13:55.
Paris, here in Wales, people living in some coastal areas are worried | :13:56. | :13:59.
what effect coastal erosion and flooding caused by climate change | :14:00. | :14:02.
will have on them in the future. 48 locations across the country have | :14:03. | :14:06.
been named in a Welsh Government Despite spending ?300 million | :14:07. | :14:09.
on flood defences in the last five years, the Government say they don't | :14:10. | :14:19.
have obligations regarding flood Here's our | :14:20. | :14:21.
Environment Correspondent. This family moved to their dream | :14:22. | :14:44.
House last year. There are people similar to us with | :14:45. | :14:48.
big mortgages, some people with no mortgages, but they do not want | :14:49. | :14:53.
their houses blighted by this policy, by the wording of the policy | :14:54. | :14:57.
more so than by the policy itself. It has affected us. | :14:58. | :15:06.
Newton is classified as being under threat from coastal erosion. Almost | :15:07. | :15:15.
?300 million has been spent on defences. But the shoreline plan is | :15:16. | :15:24.
not legally binding. The sea wall protects 40 homes but in 20 years' | :15:25. | :15:28.
time it will not be upgraded or repaired anymore and defences in 40 | :15:29. | :15:34.
applications across Wales protecting 1300 properties will no longer be | :15:35. | :15:38.
maintained. The National Trust believes and | :15:39. | :15:41.
adopting a different approach, even in some cases allowing the sea to | :15:42. | :15:45.
change the course. Wider society needs to think about switching from | :15:46. | :15:52.
a purely and healing led approach, we do not want a future where we | :15:53. | :15:57.
have a concrete coursed around Wales. The council maintains this | :15:58. | :16:06.
seafront win. National resources are responsible for the wall. | :16:07. | :16:09.
40 homes are potentially under threat and there is no guarantee of | :16:10. | :16:19.
funding should the worst happen. This area has more than 500 homes at | :16:20. | :16:24.
risk. The County Council are committed to defending it for 40 | :16:25. | :16:27.
years but are beginning to talk publicly of decommissioning the | :16:28. | :16:32.
village should the sea rise with climate change. We have to work to | :16:33. | :16:35.
find the best solutions to solve their problems in terms of | :16:36. | :16:40.
relocation of those villages. Some people might want to stay there for | :16:41. | :16:43.
a long time, until it is water coming through the front of the | :16:44. | :16:47.
door. Hopefully that will be many years in the future. Something might | :16:48. | :16:54.
want to sort it out now. Other communities will now consider | :16:55. | :16:57.
for how long can they be protected from the sea. | :16:58. | :16:59.
A consultation has begun into plans to restart scallop | :17:00. | :17:01.
Commercial scallop fishing came to an end five years ago when it became | :17:02. | :17:07.
A study found the seabed could withstand a certain level | :17:08. | :17:12.
of dredging, but campaigners claim it would be an ecological disaster. | :17:13. | :17:14.
Dolphins head to Cardigan Bay to breed and to rear their young | :17:15. | :17:26.
People come from all over the country to watch them and | :17:27. | :17:31.
experience something unavailable almost anywhere else in the UK. | :17:32. | :17:33.
Much of the water in which they live has been granted | :17:34. | :17:36.
the highest designation available under European law - | :17:37. | :17:38.
But now the Welsh Government is looking at re-opening sections | :17:39. | :17:41.
It's a concern for conservation societies. | :17:42. | :17:46.
Scallop dredging does have potential to be quite destructive. | :17:47. | :17:51.
As the name suggests, they're dredging through | :17:52. | :17:53.
the seabed to extract scallops from the sea floor and that can | :17:54. | :17:56.
Cardigan Bay is where the prime scallop beds are located. The Welsh | :17:57. | :18:10.
Government is considering opening up this special area of conservation | :18:11. | :18:13.
for scallop dredging up to three nautical miles from the coast. | :18:14. | :18:17.
It could generate millions of pounds for the fishing industry, but it is | :18:18. | :18:21.
also feared it could impact on another multimillion pound industry | :18:22. | :18:24.
Around 50,000 tourists take boat trips annually to see Cardigan Bay's | :18:25. | :18:31.
Mark Roberts is a scallop fisherman from Nevin. He disputes claims that | :18:32. | :18:38.
If we did as much damage as these environmentalists claim we | :18:39. | :18:42.
do, we would have been out of work years ago, but we do sustain | :18:43. | :18:48.
the fishing grounds because the proof is in the pudding. | :18:49. | :18:57.
How can we sustain our businesses if we do so much damage? | :18:58. | :19:02.
Research by Bangor University claims the seabed will not be greatly | :19:03. | :19:05.
harmed by the resumptmion of scallop dredging. | :19:06. | :19:06.
The area we're talking about is further offshore | :19:07. | :19:08.
Now these are much more mobile, because they're exposed to very | :19:09. | :19:12.
Now the animals that live there are adapted to that sort | :19:13. | :19:16.
The consultation into scallop dredging has just been restarted | :19:17. | :19:20.
by the Welsh Government and is due to run for the next 12 weeks. | :19:21. | :19:24.
We start with football, and news that could be a boost for Wales. | :19:25. | :19:35.
Fifa will discuss a proposal to expand the World Cup | :19:36. | :19:38.
Wales haven't qualified for a World Cup since 1958, and the | :19:39. | :19:49.
changes could see more teams qualify for the tournament from 2026. | :19:50. | :19:52.
Meanwhile, Chris Coleman's team has dropped two places to 17th | :19:53. | :19:54.
Wales women striker and former Everton and Cardiff player Gwennan | :19:55. | :20:03.
The 27 year old has been suffering with a long-standing knee injury. | :20:04. | :20:10.
She won 56 caps for Wales and lifted the FA Cup with Everton in 2010. | :20:11. | :20:16.
Commonwealth Games Champion Jazz Carlin has won a gold medal | :20:17. | :20:20.
in the 800m freestyle event at the European Short Course | :20:21. | :20:23.
It's Great Britain's first gold of the competition. | :20:24. | :20:32.
It's been almost two years since Welsh cyclist Becky James last raced | :20:33. | :20:35.
She's bounced back after illness and injury, and is preparing to | :20:36. | :20:42.
compete at the Cycling World Cup in New Zealand over the next few days. | :20:43. | :20:49.
It's the first step on the road that she hopes will | :20:50. | :20:52.
It's been an emotional journey for Becky James. | :20:53. | :20:57.
After illness and injury, the two-time world champion will | :20:58. | :21:00.
pull on the Great Britain cycling jersey this weekend for | :21:01. | :21:03.
It was hard, but I'm so happy to be back where I | :21:04. | :21:14.
am now. I'm enjoying it more than ever and I think that's the most | :21:15. | :21:18.
important thing and I sort of see everything in a different way now. | :21:19. | :21:21.
I'm just excited to be part of the team again. | :21:22. | :21:23.
It's been a long and tough road back from injury, | :21:24. | :21:26.
and the girl from Abergavenny, who has just turned 24, is on the right | :21:27. | :21:29.
road, although the competition just seems to get faster. | :21:30. | :21:31.
I know the rest of the world's moved on, so that's | :21:32. | :21:34.
going to be a hard thing for me, because I don't just need to get | :21:35. | :21:37.
back to where I was, being a double world champ, I need to be going | :21:38. | :21:41.
Further to sporting setbacks she was told she was at risk of developing | :21:42. | :22:01.
cancer. In 2014 she had an operation to remove abnormal cells. There were | :22:02. | :22:06.
times he she thought her career was over. It gives you a different | :22:07. | :22:11.
perspective on everything. There were times when I thought about | :22:12. | :22:14.
giving up and doing something else but I am glad I stuck to it. If I | :22:15. | :22:18.
did not have the support from British cycling, my parents, my | :22:19. | :22:24.
boyfriend, I would not be back to where I am. She has worked | :22:25. | :22:27.
incredibly hard but the ability to keep coming back after injury, after | :22:28. | :22:33.
injury and illness, it says so much about her character. | :22:34. | :22:36.
Her return is also a boost for the Great Britain squad. | :22:37. | :22:39.
While the men's and women's endurance teams are in good shape | :22:40. | :22:41.
and widely expected to win medals in Rio, the sprinters seem to be | :22:42. | :22:45.
lagging behind and need to battle it out in New Zealand over the next few | :22:46. | :22:49.
days in order to win much needed Olympic qualification points. | :22:50. | :23:03.
And there is no question where the Welsh sprinting queen wants | :23:04. | :23:05.
I'm targeting to get there and I really want to go to Rio. | :23:06. | :23:11.
It has been hard cycle missing out on London and Glasgow. | :23:12. | :23:14.
So as long as I get there, that is the most important thing to me. | :23:15. | :23:19.
All this week we're looking at the nominees for this year's | :23:20. | :23:21.

The winner will be announced next Monday at the Wales Sport Awards. | :23:24. | :23:32.
Today's contenders are Lee Selby and Non Stanford. | :23:33. | :23:43.
This time last year Lee Selby was a contender, now he is a world | :23:44. | :23:45.
champion with a successful defence under his belt. He snatched the IBF | :23:46. | :23:51.

tougher than triathlon. Triathletes do not come tougher than Non | :24:09. | :24:14.
Stanford. She faced the added hurdle of coming back after injury. She was | :24:15. | :24:20.
