Here on BBC One, it's time for the news where you are. | :00:00. | :00:09.
They planned to supply millions of pounds worth of drugs to Wales. | :00:10. | :00:14.
But tonight, an organised crime gang is jailed for a total | :00:15. | :00:17.
And last seen almost 20 years ago, John Sabine's remains | :00:18. | :00:21.
Police say his late wife is the main murder suspect. | :00:22. | :00:36.
13 members of a Welsh "organised crime group" | :00:37. | :00:41.
who planned to supply millions of pounds worth of Albanian | :00:42. | :00:44.
have been sentenced to a total of more than 50 years in prison. | :00:45. | :00:50.
Gwent police believe the multi-million pound haul | :00:51. | :00:51.
of "high purity cocaine" and mephedrone | :00:52. | :00:54.
is the largest the force has ever made. | :00:55. | :00:56.
Pure cocaine - that was ready to be mixed with other chemicals - | :00:57. | :01:03.
Up to ?4.5 million worth of the drug sourced | :01:04. | :01:08.
Police say it's one of the largest operations | :01:09. | :01:13.
There's no doubt that organised crime groups are motivated by greed | :01:14. | :01:21.
with no regard or consequence for the effect that the drugs have | :01:22. | :01:24.
on the communities within which they live and operate. | :01:25. | :01:29.
I think that sentences like today will send a strong message | :01:30. | :01:31.
to members of the public that they are not untouchable. | :01:32. | :01:36.
Today 13 men all from the Gwent area were sentenced | :01:37. | :01:39.
to a total of more than 53 years in prison. | :01:40. | :01:41.
For conspiring to supply cocaine and mephedrone | :01:42. | :01:43.
Some of the men were described as couriers, some acted | :01:44. | :01:50.
But this is the man who ran the operation. | :01:51. | :01:58.
28-year-old Ashley Burgham from Blaina described as the "head | :01:59. | :02:00.
And although in charge he who would never "handle" | :02:01. | :02:03.
But one drugs worker feels sentences like this are only half the battle. | :02:04. | :02:14.
There's so much of these drugs around and sometimes you look | :02:15. | :02:18.
at the way we criminalise people who get drugs in and you wonder | :02:19. | :02:21.
is the system working, is it fit for purpose? | :02:22. | :02:24.
And I really think that the fact that it would not flood the market | :02:25. | :02:28.
is indicative of the fact that policy as a whole | :02:29. | :02:31.
And the drugs came to Wales from thousands of miles away. | :02:32. | :02:36.
Meetings were organised with the "head" of | :02:37. | :02:38.
an Albanian crime gang described as an "upstream" supplier. | :02:39. | :02:43.
The group met a courier from the gang 15 times. | :02:44. | :02:47.
But when that courier was arrested the group turned to a middle man | :02:48. | :02:50.
The court heard the group tried to meet this man | :02:51. | :02:59.
on a "regular" basis, four times a month. | :03:00. | :03:01.
Groups which help people with drug problems say a number of routes | :03:02. | :03:04.
South America, often Colombia, from there it is exported | :03:05. | :03:10.
into Europe, often through Spain, distributed through criminal | :03:11. | :03:14.
networks, across the continent, finding its way into Wales. | :03:15. | :03:21.
Mephedrdone on the other hand is manufactured in the far east, | :03:22. | :03:24.
China, sent through networks on the Internet into Europe then | :03:25. | :03:26.
The court heard this was about "profit" which went | :03:27. | :03:30.
to the head of the group, Ashley Burgham. | :03:31. | :03:32.
More than ?205,000 was seized by police. | :03:33. | :03:35.
These men were involved in a criminal conspiracy | :03:36. | :03:37.
that spanned a continent with its roots in Blaunau Gwent. | :03:38. | :03:44.
Sentencing them judge Daniel Williams said they | :03:45. | :03:48.
Police investigating the discovery of human remains in Beddau last | :03:49. | :03:53.
month say they belonged to a man who was last seen in 1997 | :03:54. | :03:56.
and that his wife is now the main suspect in the murder investigation. | :03:57. | :04:00.
John and Leigh-Ann Sabine moved to Rhondda Cynon Taff | :04:01. | :04:02.
South Wales Police first began investigating here in Beddau last | :04:03. | :04:14.
night after human remains were found wrapped in plastic in a communal | :04:15. | :04:17.
which has uncovered with a complex murder investigation | :04:18. | :04:24.
The remains belonged to John Sabine, who would now have been 85. | :04:25. | :04:32.
A postmortem examination showed Mr Sabine's injuries suggest | :04:33. | :04:34.
The main suspect is now his late wife, Leigh-Ann. | :04:35. | :04:39.
John Sabine moved into these flats along with his wife, | :04:40. | :04:42.
Police believe that he disappeared in that same year | :04:43. | :04:47.
although his disappearance was never formally reported to the police. | :04:48. | :04:50.
His wife Leigh-Ann continued to live here until October this year, | :04:51. | :04:54.
when she died of cancer at the age of 74. | :04:55. | :04:58.
The couple had children who they were estranged from. | :04:59. | :05:00.
They have been told of these latest developments. | :05:01. | :05:09.
The people living here say it's been a huge shock and a worrying time. | :05:10. | :05:13.
I was that little bit more nervous than you were before, | :05:14. | :05:15.
because before, you would just go out and you wouldn't think about it | :05:16. | :05:19.
but since you heard that, you can see | :05:20. | :05:20.
yourself looking over your shoulder and thinking there's someone out | :05:21. | :05:23.
there that's just committed a murder. | :05:24. | :05:24.
They are asking anyone who knew the couple to get in touch | :05:25. | :05:28.
with them, particularly if they met or spent time with them | :05:29. | :05:31.
They are also asking people if they know anything | :05:32. | :05:34.
about the plastic wrapping that Mr Sabine was concealed in. | :05:35. | :05:38.
They say anyone with any information about this case | :05:39. | :05:41.
An independent review of the Waterhouse inquiry | :05:42. | :05:47.
into historical abuse at children's homes in North Wales | :05:48. | :05:49.
It was set up three years ago by Lady Justice Macur. | :05:50. | :05:53.
She's now delivered it to both the Secretary of State for Justice | :05:54. | :06:01.
and the Secretary of State for Wales and the UK Government says | :06:02. | :06:04.
will be considered as a matter of urgency. | :06:05. | :06:07.
A 24-year-old man has been jailed for three years and 10 months | :06:08. | :06:10.
after the car he was driving crashed into a group of people | :06:11. | :06:13.
Ryan Ford was being chased by the police | :06:14. | :06:16.
when he lost control of the car, harming 21 people, | :06:17. | :06:18.
some of them sustaining life-changing injuries. | :06:19. | :06:21.
Patients will be able to have a consultation with their GP | :06:22. | :06:24.
using a smartphone and monitor their conditions via mobile apps, | :06:25. | :06:28.
as part of a new Welsh Government strategy. | :06:29. | :06:31.
There will be more opportunity to book appointments online | :06:32. | :06:34.
and people will be able to access their own health records | :06:35. | :06:36.
The Health Minister says the five-year plan is intended | :06:37. | :06:43.
digital technology at the heart of the Welsh Health Service. | :06:44. | :06:50.
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal says he'll speak | :06:51. | :06:52.
to his assistant Ryan Giggs about reports linking him | :06:53. | :06:54.
The former Wales captain has been linked with the role, | :06:55. | :06:59.
following Garry Monk's departure from the Liberty Stadium | :07:00. | :07:01.
Meanwhile, Cardiff City manager Russell Slade has been speaking | :07:02. | :07:06.
about his disappointment over Monk's dismissal. | :07:07. | :07:10.
It seems to happen with alarming regularity and our game seems | :07:11. | :07:13.
So it's always a tinge of disappointment, when you see | :07:14. | :07:22.
a manager go, because you know how difficult the job can be and | :07:23. | :07:25.
You can only hope that somebody like Garry Monk will bounce back | :07:26. | :07:30.
quickly and get back in the game, and I'm sure he will. | :07:31. | :07:37.
Slade's men welcome Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow. | :07:38. | :07:40.
They're entering a critical period in their bid for promotion | :07:41. | :07:43.
to the Premier League, according to the manager. | :07:44. | :07:48.

in the European Challenge Cup at the Arms Park. | :08:02. | :08:03.
The visitors took the lead with three tries in 20 minutes | :08:04. | :08:06.
but the Blues scored five tries including two by Josh Navidi | :08:07. | :08:08.
What's the weather got in store for us this weekend? | :08:09. | :08:13.
Here's Behnaz Akhgar with the forecast. | :08:14. | :08:20.
it is a weekend of two halves, wit and win the conditions on Sunday and | :08:21. | :08:27.
Saturday looking dry but remaining cloudy. We have a weather system | :08:28. | :08:31.
bringing more rain in from the south-west. That will bring slowly | :08:32. | :08:38.
to higher ground on the North. Tomorrow, low-pressure controlling | :08:39. | :08:41.
the weather. With that, wit and windy conditions from the word go. | :08:42. | :08:46.
Not a very nice start to Saturday morning. The potential for snow in | :08:47. | :08:53.
the North and localised flooding for Northern counties. Further south, | :08:54. | :08:57.
the rain not as heavy and brisk winds coming in from a | :08:58. | :09:00.
south-westerly direction. For the rest of the UK, showers across | :09:01. | :09:04.
Scotland but it will see the best of the dry weather, and this band of | :09:05. | :09:08.
rain then continuing across northern England. The rain continuing with | :09:09. | :09:18.
mild air following on from the South on Saturday evening. The difference | :09:19. | :09:21.
between the North and south, single figures for the North and much | :09:22. | :09:25.
milder in the South at around 13 Celsius. The rain will play when | :09:26. | :09:29.
Sunday, hanging onto that cloud, mist and fog, but it will be chilly | :09:30. | :09:35.
with clear skies in the north, with temperatures around freezing, giving | :09:36. | :09:43.
is a chilly start to Sunday. It will be unsettled for the start of next | :09:44. | :09:47.
week. It. Dry with more rain pushing in from the south again, heavy at | :09:48. | :09:53.
times, and the rest of the week is unsettled, too. | :09:54. | :09:54.
We're back at five to six tomorrow evening. | :09:55. | :09:57.
From all of us on the programme, good night. | :09:58. | :10:04. |
