MP's say the Ministry Of Defence should lose its immunity

from prosecution in cases where there have been serious

failings in training.

The MoD say such deaths are rare, but acknowledge that

more needs to be done and that they will consider

the reports findings.

It's the toughest of testing grounds.

The Brecon Beacons in any weather can be unforgiving,

but on the hottest day of summer 2013, three young men on selection

for the SAS lost their lives.

Earlier this year, the inquest into the deaths of Craig Roberts,

James Dansby and Edward Mayer found neglect played

a part in their deaths.

The Health and Safety Executive passed the strongest

section it was able to, a crown censure, and said the MoD

would face prosecution for their failings if it didn't

have crown immunity.

Now there are calls for the Ministry of Defence to lose that immunity.

Since 2000, 135 service personnel have died in training.

89 in the Army, 24 in the Royal Navy and Marines, and 22 in the RAF.

The Bridgend MP, Madeleine Moon, chairs the defence subcommittee

that is calling for the MoD to lose its immunity

from prosecution.

She says the lives of serving personnel are worth less

no less than those of civilians, and those responsible

for deaths must be equally liable under the law.

We need to drive through the message of the lessons being learned

and corporate responsibility where there is gross

negligence being accepted.

Families need to know that where there is a death

that there will be a capacity to hold the Ministry

of Defence to account.

The defence committee accept that in times of war,

the protection from manslaughter charges might be needed,

but when it comes to training, they say, it is an anomaly.

It is almost three years now since the reservists on the SAS

selection programme died here on the Beacons as a result

of heat related problems.

The MoD say deaths in training are rare, but they acknowledge that

more needs to be done.

And last year, they set up the Defence Safety Authority.

In a statement, the MoD said, "The safety of our personnel

is an absolute priority."

They say they will now carefully consider the defence committee's

report and respond in due course.

Wales should consider introducing compulsory voting.

That's according to a Welsh government minister, Ken Skates.

The Deputy Minister for Skills

and Education told Radio Wales' Sunday Supplement programme that he

was worried about low turnout.

His party, Welsh Labour, have declined to

comment on the issue.

The Conservatives, Liberal Democrats, Plaid Cymru

and UKIP oppose compulsory voting.

In Port Talbot, a church service has been held to show support

and solidarity with the workers of the steel industry.

Dozens turned up from local chapels and churches to the service.

Rick Hayes is the chaplain for the TATA steel works in the town.

Especially with the announcement of the possible sale of

Tata, we thought it would be an ideal opportunity to run a church

service and show commitment and solidarity with the workforce.
