That's all from the BBC News at Six, so it's goodbye from me. | :00:00. | :00:00.
Tonight's headlines: Unlawfully killed. | :00:00. | :00:07.
The families of two Welsh men who died at Hillsborough say they're | :00:08. | :00:10.
relieved the inquest into their deaths has concluded. | :00:11. | :00:13.
He was my favourite person in the world. | :00:14. | :00:17.

to discuss what he calls a sustainable future for the plant. | :00:29. | :00:34.
30 years after the Chernobyl disaster claims that restricting | :00:35. | :00:36.
the sale of livestock here was probably unnecessary. | :00:37. | :00:42.
We're in Brecon, the latest stop on our election tour. | :00:43. | :00:45.
We're going to be investigating the link between the | :00:46. | :00:47.

from Wales killed at Hillsborough 27 years ago have expressed | :01:19. | :01:23.
their relief that fresh inquests John McBrien from Holywell | :01:24. | :01:26.
in Flintshire and Steven Brown from Holt near Wrexham were among 96 | :01:27. | :01:31.

the jury concluded they'd The inquests hadn't even concluded | :01:37. | :01:39.

Liverpool's famous anthem. With its lyrics about walking | :01:52. | :01:54.

a course at the city's university. His mother learned today | :02:11. | :02:14.
that he and 95 others were unlawfully killed | :02:15. | :02:16.
because of failures by police to keep | :02:17. | :02:18.
the crowd safe. I represented our family | :02:19. | :02:21.
in the first inquest. I said on television | :02:22. | :02:28.
that the verdict should have been unlawful killing ten. | :02:29. | :02:32.

known as Steven, from Holt near Wrexham was such a Liverpool | :02:43. | :02:45.
fanatic he even bore a club tattoo. His brother and widow | :02:46. | :02:49.
were at the inquest today but didn't Sarah Brown was six months | :02:50. | :02:52.

its full horror. It has been earned by every | :03:03. | :03:04.

verdict. The jury concluded that mistakes | :03:17. | :03:21.

visit to the Port Talbot steel plant since Tata announced | :04:10. | :04:17.
it was putting its During talks with senior executives | :04:18. | :04:20.
and union officials, the Prime Minister talked | :04:21. | :04:23.
through different options for supporting any potential rescue | :04:24. | :04:25.
package for the industry. Our political editor, | :04:26. | :04:28.
Nick Servini, is here. What came | :04:29. | :04:30.
out of today's meeting? I think probably the most | :04:31. | :04:40.
significant thing to have come out will be in the long run, the | :04:41. | :04:44.
impression it has made on David Cameron and how that fees through | :04:45. | :04:48.
into any UK Government support for rescue package. This was his first | :04:49. | :04:52.
opportunity to meet steelworkers, he had to blast furnace and had talks | :04:53. | :04:58.
lasting an hour with senior executives and union officials. | :04:59. | :05:04.
Downing Street is saying it was an opportunity for him to show his | :05:05. | :05:08.
commitments to the industry. Union officials said in front of David | :05:09. | :05:11.
Cameron they took the opportunity to press Tata to act responsibly during | :05:12. | :05:16.
the sale process. Most people were pleased to see him, less so the | :05:17. | :05:22.
First Minister who was not happy at not being invited. He said he was | :05:23. | :05:27.
disappointed to read about the visit on Twitter. David Cameron meant -- | :05:28. | :05:32.
went on to a car parts factory in the Swansea. He met Andrew RT Davies | :05:33. | :05:38.
we were all thinking, within a matter of days before the Assembly | :05:39. | :05:42.
election, the opportunity for the Prime Minister to big up Mr Davies's | :05:43. | :05:47.
prospects. Yet, no broadcast media are allowed in. No footage actually | :05:48. | :05:53.
of the two men together. Here we are, a matter of days before we go | :05:54. | :05:57.
to the polls and David Cameron didn't take the opportunity to | :05:58. | :06:02.
promote Andrew RT Davies so close to the election. Most people would | :06:03. | :06:08.
accept that is a pretty QJ selection behaviour. In ever to the right | :06:09. | :06:12.
questions about if there is bad blood between both men because of | :06:13. | :06:16.
Andrew RT Davies's decision to campaign for the Brexit. | :06:17. | :06:18.
BBC Wales understands that plans to build a combined heat | :06:19. | :06:20.
and power plant at south Hook near Milford Haven | :06:21. | :06:22.
An email to Milford Haven Town Council earlier this month indicated | :06:23. | :06:28.
that the company behind the project had cancelled the plans due | :06:29. | :06:32.
Around 600 jobs were expected to be created during construction. | :06:33. | :06:38.
We rely on large job happening with the petro-chemical and gas | :06:39. | :06:41.
A couple of months work, it is 12 months wages for someone. | :06:42. | :06:46.
When you hear something of this magnitude being called off now | :06:47. | :06:51.
Meanwhile, the announcement that Wales's largest | :06:52. | :06:56.
coal fired power station is to downgrade its operations | :06:57. | :06:59.
will have an inevitable impact on opencast mining here. | :07:00. | :07:03.
That's according to the operators of two south Wales mines. | :07:04. | :07:05.
From April next year,Aberthaw in the Vale of Glamorgan will only | :07:06. | :07:09.
generate electricity when it's needed by the National Grid. | :07:10. | :07:13.
Our environment correspondent, Steffan Messenger, reports. | :07:14. | :07:17.
By 1967, this industrial wilderness will begin to look like this. | :07:18. | :07:21.
At the time it was built, Aberthaw was | :07:22. | :07:23.
hailed as one of the most advanced power stations in the world. | :07:24. | :07:27.
For over 40 years this site near St Athan in the Vale | :07:28. | :07:30.
of Glamorgan has been generating electricity from burning coal. | :07:31. | :07:34.
It can supply around 1555 megawatts of electricity for | :07:35. | :07:39.
That is enough power to meet the needs of some | :07:40. | :07:44.
But a fall in demand for coal fired power, | :07:45. | :07:47.
rising costs and environmental regulations have combined to make | :07:48. | :07:50.
keeping this place going a huge challenge according | :07:51. | :07:54.
They announced yesterday that from April next year | :07:55. | :07:58.
the site will only be operational at times when the National Grid | :07:59. | :08:01.
needs a helping hand with supply like during the winter months. | :08:02. | :08:05.
Environmental campaigners predict this is the beginning of the end | :08:06. | :08:09.
It is the third biggest point source of nitrous oxide | :08:10. | :08:14.
It is also one of the biggest polluters | :08:15. | :08:18.
in terms of mercury emissions in the whole of the UK. | :08:19. | :08:21.
It is just a gargantuan polluter and its time has come | :08:22. | :08:24.
RWE says it is investing in new technology to | :08:25. | :08:29.
That will involve expanding the range of coal burned at the plant. | :08:30. | :08:35.
We're looking at the production of coal in Wales | :08:36. | :08:38.
coming to an end fairly soon. | :08:39. | :08:41.
I think that is still under discussion. | :08:42. | :08:45.
Coal coming from other countries, people moving to mixtures | :08:46. | :08:48.
There is lots and lots of complex issues about this. | :08:49. | :08:52.
If you burn different materials you get different | :08:53. | :08:55.
products, you get different emissions. | :08:56. | :08:57.
Opencast mines in South Wales currently supply the vast | :08:58. | :09:00.
Miller Argent, which runs Ffos-y-fran near Merthyr Tydfil | :09:01. | :09:06.

they were considering the impact on their businesses. | :09:10. | :09:12.
The future of around 600 staff and contract jobs at Aberthaw | :09:13. | :09:15.
The GMB union said today it expected things to | :09:16. | :09:21.
30 years since the world's worst nuclear accident at Chernobyl, | :09:22. | :09:28.
in what is now Ukraine, an expert has told Wales Today that | :09:29. | :09:31.
restrictions imposed at the time on the sale of livestock here, | :09:32. | :09:34.
while understandable, were probably unnecessary. | :09:35. | :09:37.
Radioactive caesium fell in rain on north Wales and restrictions | :09:38. | :09:41.
on farms in the affected area were only completely lifted | :09:42. | :09:44.
The death toll of Chernobyl is still argued over. | :09:45. | :09:55.
The world's worst nuclear accident still divides opinion. | :09:56. | :10:00.
And here in Wales, what we do know is, yes, radioactive caesium | :10:01. | :10:03.
did fall in rain about a week after the explosion. | :10:04. | :10:07.
The radiation levels here in North Wales on some farms | :10:08. | :10:11.
was high enough to trigger restrictions. | :10:12. | :10:14.
Restrictions which were to remain in place for more | :10:15. | :10:17.
Some people are saying that it was nothing to worry | :10:18. | :10:22.
about and it would be over in two or three weeks. | :10:23. | :10:25.
Glyn Roberts had to cope with the restrictions | :10:26. | :10:30.
Almost a working lifetime of the added burden | :10:31. | :10:35.
But it was worth it, he says, public confidence in their product, | :10:36. | :10:39.
The most important thing here is that we do | :10:40. | :10:44.
supply the house provider with the best lamb and the safest | :10:45. | :10:49.
By doing these monitoring for the last 26 years, I am very | :10:50. | :10:54.
It has made more for work us but that work is | :10:55. | :11:02.
The regime involved radiation testing. | :11:03. | :11:07.
Animals with high levels of caesium were not allowed | :11:08. | :11:09.
But with the restrictions really necessary? | :11:10. | :11:14.
Some scientists say our understanding of the dangers of what | :11:15. | :11:17.
they say are low levels of caesium has changed. | :11:18. | :11:20.
Professor Gerry Thomas of Imperial College researches | :11:21. | :11:24.
We'd never had a nuclear accident like that before so I think | :11:25. | :11:30.
it was a sensible at the time to be precautions. | :11:31. | :11:33.
We need to learn from what we now know about the science | :11:34. | :11:36.
30 years later and say, actually, caesium is not something we need to | :11:37. | :11:40.
We've got plenty of evidence from about from the | :11:41. | :11:45.
Chernobyl area where people have been followed now for over 30 years | :11:46. | :11:48.
and it looks as if there is nothing to be seen. | :11:49. | :11:51.
The monitoring ended when the last restrictions were | :11:52. | :11:54.
There are those who argue that scientists like | :11:55. | :11:58.
Gerry Thomas are too quick to dismiss the risk. | :11:59. | :12:02.
Others believe that sheep on the Welsh uplands should | :12:03. | :12:04.
continue to be checked for radiation. | :12:05. | :12:07.
When you come to low levels of radiation there is very great | :12:08. | :12:10.
The extrapolation is only possible, I think, with time | :12:11. | :12:16.
and we will only see in the next generation and the generation after | :12:17. | :12:21.
that whether there are significant effects to be demonstrated then. | :12:22. | :12:25.
Around Chernobyl, they are still working to maintain the damaged | :12:26. | :12:29.
reactor and nearby, homes, schools, communities remain abandoned. | :12:30. | :12:34.
30 years on there and here, the accident is still posing questions. | :12:35. | :12:41.
Our Election Tour around Wales has reached Brecon and Jamie's | :12:42. | :12:46.
Welcome to Wales Today live from Brecon, the next stop | :12:47. | :12:52.
We're beside the town's theatre on the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal. | :12:53. | :12:57.
This is Wales' largest seat geographically speaking, | :12:58. | :13:01.
stretching from the head of the south Wales Valleys | :13:02. | :13:04.
to the border with England and into the Cambrian mountains. | :13:05. | :13:06.
The Westminster seat was held by Labour after the war for decades, | :13:07. | :13:10.
Now it's highly marginal between the Conservatives | :13:11. | :13:15.
But it's been won by the leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, | :13:16. | :13:21.
Kirsty Williams, at every Assembly election since devolution. | :13:22. | :13:24.
But in last year's Westminster elections | :13:25. | :13:27.
In a sparsely populated area of small towns it won't surprise | :13:28. | :13:33.
you to hear that schools and hospital services | :13:34. | :13:37.
Well, this might look like a rather peaceful place this evening, | :13:38. | :13:42.
but the fight to win this seat at next week's election | :13:43. | :13:47.
If the leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats Kirsty Williams loses | :13:48. | :13:52.
here, it's pretty much the final curtain for her party. | :13:53. | :13:57.
The Conservatives are ramping up the pressure having won the seat | :13:58. | :14:00.
It's been here on farmland just above Newtown for between 500 | :14:01. | :14:10.
Its very existence was threatened by plans to route a bypass | :14:11. | :14:15.
But after a successful campaign the route was moved and the | :14:16. | :14:20.
The Liberal Democrats and the Liberals before them have | :14:21. | :14:25.
Until the last Assembly election this constituency had been | :14:26. | :14:30.
But the party, like this tree, are under threat in the Assembly. | :14:31. | :14:38.
The latest opinion polls suggest they could lose three oftheir five | :14:39. | :14:41.
Some are even suggesting the party could be wiped out | :14:42. | :14:45.
The party office in Newtown in the Montgomeryshire constituency is | :14:46. | :14:51.
a throwback to the liberal tradition in mid Wales. | :14:52. | :14:55.
The Conservatives hold this constituency at Westminster and | :14:56. | :14:58.
They took Brecon and Radnorshire from the Liberal Democrats | :14:59. | :15:03.
Despite holding Ceredigion in Parliamentary elections | :15:04. | :15:08.
since 2005, the party has failed to make a breakthrough there in | :15:09. | :15:12.
David Selby is a town councillor in Newtown and he's been | :15:13. | :15:19.
campaigning on the streets for almost 30 years. | :15:20. | :15:22.
History, tradition but liberalism and the vision for what liberalism | :15:23. | :15:27.
We will change the sign only when it falls down I guess. | :15:28. | :15:32.
I have no problem with looking backwards to the tradition | :15:33. | :15:35.
but we are looking into the future now. | :15:36. | :15:39.
A year ago that party lost 49 of its 57 seats in Westminster. | :15:40. | :15:45.
It led to the election of Tim Farron as UK leader. | :15:46. | :15:49.
He has been on a tour of the party's mid Wales heartlands | :15:50. | :15:52.
including this Brecon business where he was laying it on thick. | :15:53. | :15:56.
In the last 11 months there has been a real regrowth in the party. | :15:57. | :16:00.
The party's membership across Wales has | :16:01. | :16:01.
We have gained by-elections in pretty much every | :16:02. | :16:06.
There is a real sense of us making progress. | :16:07. | :16:11.
The party has had its ups and downs in Wales and they've all been | :16:12. | :16:15.
chronicled in this book, and the author says last year's | :16:16. | :16:17.
general election performance was the worst for a generation. | :16:18. | :16:22.
It's put the party back to the way it was in 1992 in | :16:23. | :16:25.
Wales but it was a bad election right across the UK. | :16:26. | :16:28.
In Wales it wasn't specifically a punishment for | :16:29. | :16:31.
Traditionally, they normally do worse in the Welsh Assembly | :16:32. | :16:35.
elections than they do in the general elections. | :16:36. | :16:38.
This time, it is going to be the other way around. | :16:39. | :16:40.
Back in Newtown, progress is continuing on the new road. | :16:41. | :16:45.
In a month or so this 500-year-old oak tree will be in full bloom, | :16:46. | :16:49.
in rude health after a brush with extinction. | :16:50. | :16:52.
The Liberal Democrats will hope they can say the same | :16:53. | :16:55.
Carl Roberts on the prospects of the Liberal Democrats in the election. | :16:56. | :17:03.
And tomorrow, we're going to tell you about the minor parties standing | :17:04. | :17:06.
We're beside the town's theatre tonight. | :17:07. | :17:15.
We've talked about things like schools and hospitals | :17:16. | :17:16.
on our tour but how important are the arts to our lives? | :17:17. | :17:19.
And could the Welsh government's health budget be used to fund music | :17:20. | :17:22.
Our arts correspondent, Huw Thomas reports. | :17:23. | :17:30.
In the election campaign, the arts has to make quite a noise to be | :17:31. | :17:33.
The Cory Brass Bands were here to help as they line-up for | :17:34. | :17:37.
this years Welsh Proms was announced. | :17:38. | :17:39.
Now in its 31st year, it is still organised by the conductor, | :17:40. | :17:47.
Owain Arwel Hughes, though recently money has been tight. | :17:48. | :17:49.
It returns with support from public funds and | :17:50. | :17:51.
private donors, but the boss wants politicians to consider the broader | :17:52. | :17:54.
benefits of the arts when budgets are fixed. | :17:55. | :17:57.
The arts and music in particular, which is my field, | :17:58. | :17:59.
affects the lives of people far more than people think. | :18:00. | :18:04.
Financially, yes, we are always in trouble. | :18:05. | :18:06.
It has been proved over the centuries how music has | :18:07. | :18:15.
Therefore, that has got to be good to the NHS. | :18:16. | :18:21.
Here is the picture when it comes to arts funding. | :18:22. | :18:23.
Around ?80 million is spent on arts and culture | :18:24. | :18:25.
funding everything from classical music to museums and libraries. | :18:26. | :18:29.
It is a small proportion of the Welsh Government's | :18:30. | :18:32.
Equivalent to around 0.5% of its spending this year. | :18:33. | :18:39.
Could more be made of the health benefits of a vibrant arts sector? | :18:40. | :18:44.
Here in Builth Wells it is having a direct impact | :18:45. | :18:46.
on people living with Parkinson's disease. | :18:47. | :18:48.
Strictly Parkinson's has been running for two years and it is | :18:49. | :18:53.
You get from a class like this, perhaps a little bit more mobility, | :18:54. | :19:00.
perhaps you feel a little bit more upright, your posture is better. | :19:01. | :19:06.
But most of all with the feeling of well-being. | :19:07. | :19:13.
It is an example of the arts as a therapy but the organisers | :19:14. | :19:16.
It would be wonderful if a programme like this could be rolled out | :19:17. | :19:20.
on a much wider basis and research is beginning to come in providing | :19:21. | :19:24.
evidence of the efficacy of being involved in something like this. | :19:25. | :19:29.
If it could be more widely available to more people | :19:30. | :19:31.
with Parkinson's in this instance, I think that would be | :19:32. | :19:33.
Financial security is the political priority for the arts but the wider | :19:34. | :19:41.
health benefits could provide some with an alternative source of income | :19:42. | :19:46.
if it makes an impression on the campaign trail. | :19:47. | :19:50.
Now over the past few weeks, we've been asking you what you want | :19:51. | :19:54.
Steve Evans from Porth in Rhondda got in touch. | :19:55. | :19:57.
You have been telling us what you would do | :19:58. | :20:03.
In Porth in the Rhondda, jobs are high on the agenda. | :20:04. | :20:09.
If I were First Minister I would make sure the | :20:10. | :20:12.
If I were First Minister I would help local businesses. | :20:13. | :20:16.
He graduated with a degree in computer studies seven years ago. | :20:17. | :20:23.
He has been struggling to find work ever since. | :20:24. | :20:28.
A lot of jobs are in Cardiff, Swansea, Newport. | :20:29. | :20:31.
There is quite a bit in Bristol as well. | :20:32. | :20:33.
Steve would be willing to commute but he wants | :20:34. | :20:39.
more investment in the Valleys and in transport links to help create | :20:40. | :20:42.
more jobs and protect Valleys communities. | :20:43. | :20:45.
To be honest with you, the electrification and the metro | :20:46. | :20:48.
How does it make you feel being up here, trying | :20:49. | :20:55.
for work, finding that most of the jobs are at | :20:56. | :20:58.
It is a struggle because I am a Rhondda boy, born and bred here. | :20:59. | :21:03.
I'm not against the idea of moving out of | :21:04. | :21:07.
the Valleys but if I can, I would like to stay here. | :21:08. | :21:12.
For Steve, not being able to find work for so many years | :21:13. | :21:14.
The constant knock backs, or just no replies when you apply for the job, | :21:15. | :21:20.
you can take is for so long but then it starts to chip away. | :21:21. | :21:26.
I should be able to earn my own money and have a life of my own. | :21:27. | :21:31.
It is clear what Steve wants from the next Welsh Government. | :21:32. | :21:35.
If I were First Minister I'd bring jobs closer to home in the Valleys | :21:36. | :21:38.
Tell me what you would do if you were First Minister and I will pass | :21:39. | :21:45.
on your ideas to the next Welsh Government. | :21:46. | :21:48.
You can get in touch by e-mail, on Facebook and on Twitter. | :21:49. | :21:52.
Or you can write to us and make sure you are a part of My Manifesto 2016. | :21:53. | :21:58.
Yes, we're looking forward to hearing from you. | :21:59. | :22:01.

We're leaving Brecon tonight and heading to Cardiff | :22:14. | :22:16.
for tomorrow's programme in the Hayes. | :22:17. | :22:17.
Before moving on to Merthyr Tydfil on Thursday and Gower on Friday. | :22:18. | :22:21.
Welshman Mark Williams will resume his World Snooker Championship | :22:22. | :22:30.
quarterfinal against China's Ding Junhui in a few minutes | :22:31. | :22:33.
The first to 13 will head into the semi-final. | :22:34. | :22:40.
Let's take a look at the weather next. | :22:41. | :22:43.
How's the forecast looking, Sue? | :22:44. | :22:49.
We had a mix of sunny spells and wintry showers today. A weather | :22:50. | :22:59.
watcher Turk this today. Tonight, winds continuing to feed in a few | :23:00. | :23:05.
showers. A chance of snow on higher ground, trying a further east with | :23:06. | :23:09.
some overnight frost again. Subtle changes tomorrow. Those northerly | :23:10. | :23:16.
winds which brought the Arctic air starts to fear north-west today. | :23:17. | :23:23.
Tomorrow, a cold start, some frost. Possible wintry mix of rain, sleet | :23:24. | :23:27.
and snow again but staying dry for many with decent sunny spells. | :23:28. | :23:32.
Heavier showers starting to edge in from the west later, blustery but to | :23:33. | :23:37.
lose the raw wind. Temperatures in single figures. Seven Celsius in | :23:38. | :23:41.
Gwynedd, nine in Cardiff. Further showers were pushed through from the | :23:42. | :23:45.
west tomorrow night. Some wintry with snow on high ground. Easing and | :23:46. | :23:49.
turning dry overnight the true meaning calls with rural frost patch | :23:50. | :23:54.
is likely. Thursday is remaining TV with a mix of sunshine and showers. | :23:55. | :23:59.
Some wintry, heavy at times with a brisk north westerly wind, highs of | :24:00. | :24:04.
8-10dC. Then the unsettled Atlantic influence brings a new pressure | :24:05. | :24:11.
system in. Turning quite wet and windy overnight Thursday and Friday. | :24:12. | :24:15.
A mix of sunny spells and blustery showers over the next couple of | :24:16. | :24:19.
days. Wet and windy early Friday morning. It should clear to sunshine | :24:20. | :24:23.
and showers later in the day first up with lighter winds, 12 feel less | :24:24. | :24:29.
cold at the weekend. If you have any photos to help tell the weather | :24:30. | :24:36.
story. You can send it via e-mail. You can upload them on the website. | :24:37. | :24:40.
I'll have a quick round-up at eight o'clock and more then at 10.30pm. | :24:41. | :24:44. |
