Welsh voters have a key role to play in creating a better

European Union in future, according to former

Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who was speaking at the Hay

But Leave campaigners say Mr Brown's intervention ahead of the referendum

Here's our political reporter, Carl Roberts.

The Hay Festival attracts thousands of visitors over the nearby border

with England but the main attraction today was from north of the border.

Gordon Brown was at the festival to speak about Britain and Europe. He

has got a book out on the subject. He is one of a group of former

Labour leaders to sign a letter today calling on Labour members to

get out and vote to keep the UK in the EU. He says Welsh voters have a

role to play. I think the important thing is to recognise the Scottish

referendum was one when there was not just a negative message it is

gaining the worries and fears people had about leaving but also a posset

with macro positive message about the role that Britain could play in

argument were out trying to win over voters ahead of the referendum had
