Tonight thousands of Welsh fans are in France, with less than 24

:00:07.:00:10.

hours before Wales kick off their Euro 2016 campaign.

:00:11.:00:12.

Security is high with France in a state of emergency

:00:13.:00:14.

And protect jobs with a long term solution to the steel crisis -

:00:15.:00:20.

the call from the new Economy Secretary.

:00:21.:00:38.

Thousands of hopeful Welsh fans have been pouring into Bordeaux as Wales

:00:39.:00:43.

prepare to kick of their Euro 2016 campaign in less

:00:44.:00:46.

Security is high after recent attacks in France with 90,000 police

:00:47.:00:49.

Wales's attendance at a major tournament is not the only thing

:00:50.:00:59.

France remains on high alert following last year's terror

:01:00.:01:03.

It's thought a record 90,000 security staff are

:01:04.:01:18.

working here, amongst them officers from Welsh police forces.

:01:19.:01:22.

These officers along with Slovakian officers will be working in teams

:01:23.:01:25.

We'll be out on the ground, engaging with all the

:01:26.:01:28.

fans, the locals and the neutrals who are coming to Saturday's game.

:01:29.:01:31.

We'll be advising and supporting the French police.

:01:32.:01:35.

They are also hoping to avoid scenes like these.

:01:36.:01:38.

Police using tear gas to break up a brawl involving

:01:39.:01:40.

But the Welsh fans in Bordeaux are not worried, just excited.

:01:41.:01:46.

We waited 58 years so we are not bothered.

:01:47.:01:51.

Never thought I'd actually make it in my lifetime.

:01:52.:02:12.

The security is strict getting into the fanzone.

:02:13.:02:23.

They check you down anything they

:02:24.:02:26.

have to do that for up to 60,000 fans.

:02:27.:02:30.

The Welsh supporters have now truly arrived in Bordeaux, making the most

:02:31.:02:33.

of the French experience, which today includes a strike

:02:34.:02:35.

on some tram services around the city and then

:02:36.:02:37.

It's a real bonus for Wales on the sporting front and

:02:38.:02:43.

obviously, it's an opportunity to sell Wales to the world.

:02:44.:02:45.

Wherever you are, the agonising wait for the kick-off is almost at an end

:02:46.:02:49.

and while security is visible, there's only one thing

:02:50.:02:51.

on the minds of fans, and that's watching

:02:52.:02:53.

Thoughts tonight are turning to the first hurdle, Wales' first

:02:54.:02:56.

As the excitement builds, Chris Coleman, the Wales manager,

:02:57.:03:02.

simply urged his players to enjoy this historic moment.

:03:03.:03:08.

Iwan Griffiths sent this report from the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux.

:03:09.:03:11.

Treading the turf at the Stade de Bordeaux, where the Euro 2016

:03:12.:03:14.

campaign gets underway for these men.

:03:15.:03:18.

The self acclaimed band of brothers taking the opportunity to get a feel

:03:19.:03:21.

for the pitch less than 24 hours before this historic adventure

:03:22.:03:23.

I'm sure I'll have some goosebumps, that's for sure.

:03:24.:03:30.

Especially with the Welsh fans, when they are singing

:03:31.:03:32.

the anthem and knowing everybody in Wales back

:03:33.:03:34.

The people who haven't actually got into the stadium.

:03:35.:03:38.

They will all be supporting us and we will be

:03:39.:03:41.

They won seven back-to-back games qualifying for this tournament,

:03:42.:03:49.

including a memorable away victory against Spain.

:03:50.:03:52.

They also beat world champions Germany 3-1 just a few

:03:53.:03:55.

Liverpool's Martin Skrtel will captain the side from

:03:56.:04:04.

the back while Napoli playmaker Marek Hamsic, their current top

:04:05.:04:06.

scorer, is arguably the squad's macro most important player.

:04:07.:04:11.

Obviously he is a great player but, you know, we've looked at them

:04:12.:04:14.

We have gone to the meetings and done our work on

:04:15.:04:20.

the field but at the end of the day it is the same for us as it always

:04:21.:04:24.

It has been a long wait with Wales having to sit out of major football

:04:25.:04:29.

This evening, fans in red place their hopes on

:04:30.:04:32.

these men to make that wait worthwhile.

:04:33.:04:36.

To other news now, and the new Economy Secretary

:04:37.:04:38.

is calling for a long term solution to the steel crisis -

:04:39.:04:43.

that will protect jobs, whether Tata sells its UK

:04:44.:04:45.

Ken Skates says the company would have to show that it

:04:46.:04:50.

could sustain steel making at Port Talbot if it decided

:04:51.:04:53.

Plaid Cymru says Tata must not be allowed to benefit from proposed

:04:54.:04:58.

pension changes aimed at helping to find a buyer.

:04:59.:05:00.

Our business correspondent, Brian Meechan, has the latest.

:05:01.:05:07.

The wait continues for Tata workers, not only in Port Talbot but across

:05:08.:05:10.

Steel prices have begun to rise and losses at this site are

:05:11.:05:14.

The UK Government is also negotiating

:05:15.:05:17.

with Tata on issues like reducing the company's pension liabilities

:05:18.:05:19.

Some believe that the Indian company is reconsidering.

:05:20.:05:29.

In his first interview with this programme

:05:30.:05:31.

since being appointed, the new Economy Secretary

:05:32.:05:33.

says Tata will have to show it image for

:05:34.:05:49.

show it's in for the long-term if it's not selling.

:05:50.:05:52.

We want sustainable solution that provides steel-making jobs in Wales.

:05:53.:05:54.

For many communities, steel is essential for the country.

:05:55.:05:56.

And our preferred option would be for any buyer for Tata

:05:57.:05:59.

to maintain for the long-term steel-making in Wales.

:06:00.:06:01.

That is being expected to release a short list

:06:02.:06:13.

of potential bidders for weeks but still is alleged worries

:06:14.:06:16.

Liberty Steel in Newport is one of the

:06:17.:06:25.

companies expected to be on that list,

:06:26.:06:26.

along with Excalibur and another investor.

:06:27.:06:28.

Tata workers held a rally in London last

:06:29.:06:30.

month and the Business Minister marched alongside them but some

:06:31.:06:32.

argue these workers and other members of tartar's pension scheme

:06:33.:06:35.

shouldn't lose benefits if the company does decide

:06:36.:06:37.

This is Tata's opportunity and liability.

:06:38.:06:40.

In law they cannot walk away from it.

:06:41.:06:43.

Tata group can meet this pension fund deficit and it

:06:44.:06:46.

would be morally and legally wrong for all kinds of other corporations

:06:47.:06:49.

to let Tata to walk away from its responsibilities.

:06:50.:06:51.

Both the UK Government and Tata said they working

:06:52.:06:53.

together to secure the future of the business

:06:54.:06:55.

and secure the best outcome for members

:06:56.:06:57.

A coroner has told Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board it must push ahead

:06:58.:07:01.

with plans to set-up a special team to help mothers-to-be

:07:02.:07:03.

It follows the death of 22-year-old Shanice Priestly who was eight

:07:04.:07:07.

months pregnant when she hanged herself at her home in Conwy,

:07:08.:07:09.

The health board said it is developing a perinatal mental

:07:10.:07:13.

The Welsh government has stepped in to attempt to end a dispute,

:07:14.:07:18.

affecting staff who work for National Museum Wales.

:07:19.:07:20.

Members of the PCS Union have been taking continuous strike action over

:07:21.:07:23.

plans to end extra payments for working weekends.

:07:24.:07:25.

The Museum has now offered a lump sum - equivalent to five years'

:07:26.:07:28.

The Welsh government is financing half of the offer.

:07:29.:07:32.

The union says it's considering the details,

:07:33.:07:33.

and hopes to ballot members next week.

:07:34.:07:38.

Three days of celebration to mark the Queen's 90th birthday began

:07:39.:07:41.

with a service of thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral this morning.

:07:42.:07:44.

And among those chosen to lead the prayers Hilda Price from Cardiff

:07:45.:07:47.

who shares her birthday with the queen.

Mrs Price, who was born in Carmarthen, said

:07:52.:07:53.

when she was told she was to take part it was the shock of her life .

:07:54.:07:58.
