Tonight's headlines: For the first time, the Prime Minister and Wales' | :00:00. | :00:07.
First Minister appear together to campaign for the same cause, | :00:08. | :00:09.
We stand together and say to the British people, this is a huge | :00:10. | :00:25.
decision but let's get it right by voting to remain. | :00:26. | :00:26.
But Leave campaigners dismissed it as just another stage-managed event. | :00:27. | :00:29.
Also tonight: The police watchdog is investigating after a former | :00:30. | :00:31.
soldier died after being tasered in Llanelli. | :00:32. | :00:33.
Chloe Thomas pleads guilty to allowing cruelty to a child - | :00:34. | :00:36.
her 17-month-old son Finlay died with multiple injuries. | :00:37. | :00:38.
Officers fired teargas into the crowds, supporters seen | :00:39. | :00:41.
Thousands of Wales fans are gathering in Lille, | :00:42. | :00:50.
along with rivals from England, Slovakia and Russia. | :00:51. | :00:54.
The Prime Minister David Cameron and First Minister Carwyn Jones have | :00:55. | :01:17.
joined forces to urge voters to back remaining in the EU. | :01:18. | :01:20.
Visiting a British Gas offices in Cardiff, Mr Cameron said | :01:21. | :01:23.
the referendum campaign is "very close" with many people | :01:24. | :01:26.
The Leave side described it as yet another stage managed event. | :01:27. | :01:33.
Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen. And thank you, Carlin. | :01:34. | :01:48.
Putting differences aside, they are usually miles apart on many issues, | :01:49. | :01:53.
but it was all forgotten today as David Cameron and Carwyn Jones stood | :01:54. | :01:57.
shoulder to shoulder for the first time. They made their pitch and | :01:58. | :02:02.
answered questions from all centre staff at British Gas in Cardiff. | :02:03. | :02:08.
With no mention of immigration, for example, and at times, the two men | :02:09. | :02:12.
were jovial. At the claims were serious as they made their case to | :02:13. | :02:19.
remain in terms of potential benefits, security, cheaper energy | :02:20. | :02:23.
bills, but time and time again, they returned to the economy. When Labour | :02:24. | :02:27.
and Conservative politicians are prepared to stand together on an | :02:28. | :02:32.
issue, together with greens and Liberal Democrats and trade | :02:33. | :02:35.
unionists, businesses and voluntary bodies, I don't see that as some | :02:36. | :02:39.
establishment stitch up, I see that as a reason to listen. 58 years | :02:40. | :02:44.
where we were on the sidelines, in the crowd shouting when their body | :02:45. | :02:48.
took any notice of us, when we had no influence at all on what was | :02:49. | :02:51.
happening in the European tournaments, and now we are there. | :02:52. | :02:54.
The same thing applies in the referendum next week. This is a big | :02:55. | :02:59.
moment in the campaign. The fact that the two leaders have come | :03:00. | :03:03.
together shows how serious they think the situation is. In Wales of | :03:04. | :03:08.
all places, there are decades of tribal animosity between the | :03:09. | :03:12.
Conservatives and Labour, and those scenes today will be unpalatable to | :03:13. | :03:16.
many. Both men have to persuade people that it has been worth it. | :03:17. | :03:21.
Leave campaigners dismiss it as yet another stage-managed event. The | :03:22. | :03:29.
constant deluge of prophecies of doom, of putting fear in people | :03:30. | :03:33.
because the world will come to an end if they vote to leave, I'm not | :03:34. | :03:38.
being believed by growing numbers of people. This was not the only time | :03:39. | :03:41.
today for the Conservatives and Labour to share a platform on the | :03:42. | :03:46.
EU. The current Chancellor George Osborne and the former Labour | :03:47. | :03:50.
Chancellor Alistair Darling want our taxes would rise and public spending | :03:51. | :03:56.
could be cut in the event of Brexit. But 57 Conservative MPs have signed | :03:57. | :03:59.
a joint statement saying they would block this emergency budget. There | :04:00. | :04:06.
is desperation on both sides, and I have already said the scaremongering | :04:07. | :04:10.
on both sides. This is taking it to a new level. It was unprecedented to | :04:11. | :04:14.
see the leader of the Conservative Party and the leader of Welsh Labour | :04:15. | :04:18.
agreeing on so much. They did it in one of Wales's biggest call centres. | :04:19. | :04:23.
The question is, whether anybody is listening at this late stage in the | :04:24. | :04:27.
campaign. Just how significant was this? | :04:28. | :04:35.
Well, it was symbolic and not without its risks. Welsh Labour are | :04:36. | :04:37.
acutely aware of what happened to Scottish Labour when they shared | :04:38. | :04:46.
platforms with Labour in the Scottish referendum. There are | :04:47. | :04:48.
different circumstances now, and that is why Labour felt comfortable | :04:49. | :04:52.
doing it. The big question is what kind of impact this will have. The | :04:53. | :04:57.
problem for Labour is that so many of its traditional supporters are | :04:58. | :05:00.
considering a vote to leave because they are disaffected with politics | :05:01. | :05:05.
and concerned about immigration. Frankly, an appearance of David | :05:06. | :05:07.
Cameron is not going to change their minds. One area where it could help, | :05:08. | :05:13.
though, is trying to clarify the confusion that does exist among the | :05:14. | :05:16.
public, about where Labour stands on the position and its stance on the | :05:17. | :05:21.
European Union. A final thought the very fact that today has happened | :05:22. | :05:27.
today at this afternoon, tells you all you need to know about how close | :05:28. | :05:31.
this contest is with a matter of days to go. | :05:32. | :05:38.
A former soldier has died after being hated by police. The | :05:39. | :05:45.
43-year-old man was well-known for his committee work in the town -- | :05:46. | :05:52.
tasered. Eyewitnesses said he stabbed himself and a dog with a | :05:53. | :05:55.
knife. Welcomes home from Iraq a hero, | :05:56. | :06:01.
Spencer, a former member of the Royal Welsh Regiment, served in the | :06:02. | :06:05.
Army for 15 years. He told this programme how tough duty there had | :06:06. | :06:11.
been. I served in times where it was a very scary place to be, and of | :06:12. | :06:17.
loosely as being professional in what we do we continued with the | :06:18. | :06:23.
operation in hand. Friends say military life took its toll and he | :06:24. | :06:28.
was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. Police were called | :06:29. | :06:33.
here by a member of the public who was concerned about the welfare and | :06:34. | :06:37.
the behaviour of a man who appeared to be injured. We are told that | :06:38. | :06:41.
during an engagement a taser was discharged. He was a regular at this | :06:42. | :06:45.
gym, and here and in town, well-known for his committee spirit. | :06:46. | :06:55.
I know that he set up a watchdog to make sure children were getting home | :06:56. | :06:59.
safely. He was a pillar of the community. He was quite selfless. | :07:00. | :07:05.
The police have referred the case to the IPCC, which is investigating. | :07:06. | :07:08.
French Police have clashed with fans in the centre of Lille tonight. | :07:09. | :07:11.
Thousands of Wales supporters have been gathering in the city, | :07:12. | :07:14.
along with fans from England, Slovakia and Russia. | :07:15. | :07:16.
I would say in the last hour or so, the atmosphere has changed in Lille. | :07:17. | :07:31.
Away from the fans, there are thousands of fans on the streets | :07:32. | :07:36.
here, and whilst out filming we heard a large bang and there was a | :07:37. | :07:40.
huge rush of fans charging down one of the main streets. A lot of the | :07:41. | :07:45.
lease in white skier followed them in an attempt to contain the | :07:46. | :07:49.
disturbance. Dash-macro police in riot gear. They have used tear gas | :07:50. | :07:55.
to try to disperse those crowds. Clashes between police and fans | :07:56. | :08:01.
tonight on the street in Lille. As thousands from the stadium is built | :08:02. | :08:06.
into the city, the atmosphere ten. At the moment, police are gathered | :08:07. | :08:09.
here and it is not clear what is happening. There was a loud bang and | :08:10. | :08:14.
a big rush of fans down this road. The police are quick to respond, it | :08:15. | :08:19.
is just finding out what is going on. Just before a large number of | :08:20. | :08:23.
England fans gathered in the bars of a square, loading Russian fans after | :08:24. | :08:29.
the loss to Slovakia, and as always plenty of police to watch the | :08:30. | :08:33.
performance. In preparation for any trouble, there are an extra 4000 | :08:34. | :08:37.
officers on the streets of the city tonight. 350 bars will close early | :08:38. | :08:44.
than normal at around midnight. In the fan zone they are serving lower | :08:45. | :08:49.
strength beer. Authorities have banned the sale of alcohol in shops | :08:50. | :08:52.
and supermarkets, but that is proving difficult to police. Any | :08:53. | :08:56.
city in the world that has introduced that type of licensing | :08:57. | :09:01.
legislation, within a matter of hours, in a city the size of Lille, | :09:02. | :09:07.
to try to police that 100% will be very difficult. The football | :09:08. | :09:10.
supporters Federation which has already met with French lease and | :09:11. | :09:14.
Uefa security advisers is not invent alcohol is the problem. I don't know | :09:15. | :09:20.
how they can impose that, with some 80 people in the city, you have got | :09:21. | :09:25.
these little outlets. There are too many outlets that sell alcohol it | :09:26. | :09:31.
would be impossible to impose. What people need to bear in mind, this is | :09:32. | :09:35.
not alcohol fuelled violence, this is premeditated violence by | :09:36. | :09:41.
hooligans who are not drinking. Police have been quick to respond to | :09:42. | :09:45.
disturbance is tonight, releasing tear gas to disperse the crowd, but | :09:46. | :09:48.
they may well be in for a long night ahead. | :09:49. | :09:53.
It is not just football supporters in this city. As we moved away from | :09:54. | :09:57.
this disturbance there were people coughing, just on their way home | :09:58. | :10:02.
from work. Our eyes were stinging and burning, and we were just on the | :10:03. | :10:05.
edge of that tear gas. The situation is ongoing and there are plenty of | :10:06. | :10:09.
police on the streets. We will bring you the latest as we have it and of | :10:10. | :10:12.
course the football news. A mother from Rhondda Cynon Taff has | :10:13. | :10:18.
admitted causing or allowing cruelty Chloe Thomas originally denied | :10:19. | :10:20.
neglecting her toddler, Finley, who died from "catastrophic" | :10:21. | :10:24.
injuries at his home near Tonypandy. Her boyfriend, Sean Buckley, | :10:25. | :10:27.
denies murder and has been giving From Cardiff Crown Court, | :10:28. | :10:29.
Paul Heaney reports. The prosecution says Finlay Thomas | :10:30. | :10:38.

he was taken by ambulance His mother, Chloe Thomas, | :10:41. | :10:46.

she changed her plea, admitting for the first time | :10:57. | :11:00.
to causing or allowing cruelty. Her boyfriend, Sean Buckley, | :11:01. | :11:05.
denies murdering the toddler. Sean Buckley told the court today | :11:06. | :11:07.
he had a good relationship with Finlay, and repeatedly denied | :11:08. | :11:10.
doing anything He said he was aware that he had | :11:11. | :11:14.
fallen down the stairs two or three times before, but he had never seen | :11:15. | :11:22.
that happen himself. He was extremely upset | :11:23. | :11:24.
as he described finding Finlay at the bottom of the stairs | :11:25. | :11:27.
the day he died. "I tried to pick up and put | :11:28. | :11:31.
on his feet", he said, "I gave him a little wobble | :11:32. | :11:34.
to try to rowse him, He rang his mother and started | :11:35. | :11:38.
chest compressions. He admitted he did not really | :11:39. | :11:43.
know what he was doing, but he denies the charges | :11:44. | :11:46.
against him and the trial continues. Still to come: Wales has more | :11:47. | :12:05.
passion than England, says Gareth Bale. We will hear reaction from the | :12:06. | :12:08.
England camp. Some parts of the country have been | :12:09. | :12:12.
hit by thunderstorms again today with flash flooding in places, and | :12:13. | :12:15.
there is a warning of more to come tomorrow. | :12:16. | :12:20.
The defence has started in the trial of David Ellis, | :12:21. | :12:23.
The 41-year-old denies murder but admits the manslaughter | :12:24. | :12:27.
He told Swansea Crown Court he was asked to give sexual favours in lieu | :12:28. | :12:36.
of rent. David Ellis told the jury his | :12:37. | :12:38.
landlord Alec Warburton asked him to perform sexual favours | :12:39. | :12:41.
because he had failed Mr Ellis told the jury | :12:42. | :12:43.
he was repulsed by this He said he then decided | :12:44. | :12:47.
he would steal money from other tenants in the property in order | :12:48. | :12:51.
to pay his rent and get away The jury heard on the 31st July | :12:52. | :12:54.
an altercation broke out Mr Ellis said his landlord made | :12:55. | :13:00.
sexual advances towards him, and as he tried to fight him off, | :13:01. | :13:05.
he picked up a hammer, hitting him on the back of the head | :13:06. | :13:08.
more than twice. He told the jury he panicked | :13:09. | :13:11.
and then decided to drive the landlord's body to North Wales, | :13:12. | :13:15.
and dumped it in a disused quarry. Mr Ellis said he then made his way | :13:16. | :13:18.
to Northern Ireland before ending up in the Republic of Ireland, | :13:19. | :13:22.
where he was arrested by the Garda. He confessed to police | :13:23. | :13:24.
there what he had done with Mr Warburton's body saying, | :13:25. | :13:27.
"I just thought it was the best David Craig Ellis denies murder | :13:28. | :13:29.
and the trial continues. The National Grid says | :13:30. | :13:38.
it is attempting to protect the beauty of the Menai Strait | :13:39. | :13:40.
by keeping infrastructure for the connection to the planned | :13:41. | :13:42.
Wylfa Newydd nuclear power station Last year the Grid said cables | :13:43. | :13:46.
would cross between Anglesey and mainland Wales underground | :13:47. | :13:50.
rather than on pylons. Critics say the whole route should | :13:51. | :13:52.
be undersea or underground, but the National Grid has always | :13:53. | :13:54.
argued that's too expensive. We understand that people have told | :13:55. | :14:10.
us they would like to put the whole collection underground. Today we are | :14:11. | :14:14.
focusing on this area must we have nothing new to tell you about the | :14:15. | :14:18.
rest of the connection, but we are developing our design and proposals | :14:19. | :14:22.
about the entirety of the route, and before the end of the year we will | :14:23. | :14:24.
come back with those detailed designs and ask people about their | :14:25. | :14:26.
opinions of those. More than two-thirds | :14:27. | :14:29.
of Assembly Members have signed a letter to the BBC | :14:30. | :14:31.
Director General, Tony Hall, demanding he is "specific" about how | :14:32. | :14:33.
much extra money he intends In 2014, Lord Hall told an audience | :14:34. | :14:36.
in Cardiff that English-language television programming in Wales had | :14:37. | :14:40.
been "eroded" and he subsequently said he planned to "allocate | :14:41. | :14:42.
additional funding" to the nations. Unemployment in Wales remains below | :14:43. | :14:45.
the rate for the UK as a whole. The Office for National Statistics | :14:46. | :14:48.
says between February and April the jobless rate here was 4.7%, | :14:49. | :14:51.
compared to 5% across the UK. Back to France now, and to Lens | :14:52. | :15:03.
where Wales play England in their second Euro | :15:04. | :15:05.
2016 match tomorrow. England manager Roy Hodgson has been | :15:06. | :15:08.
responding to Gareth Bale's comments about the Welsh side having more | :15:09. | :15:11.
passion than the English. We can join Iwan Griffiths now, | :15:12. | :15:13.
who's at the stadium in Lens. Thank you. Well, the Wales squad | :15:14. | :15:28.
have just finished training here this evening. The manager was | :15:29. | :15:31.
Coleman has said he never wanted to be drawn in the same group as | :15:32. | :15:35.
England. He knew what to expect, he said, from the circus that came with | :15:36. | :15:40.
this fixture, the circus being the psychological mind games we have | :15:41. | :15:44.
witnessed over the last few days. Now it is down to the football, but | :15:45. | :15:49.
when it comes to this clash, the history books don't favour Wales. | :15:50. | :16:00.
Of the 103 games between the national football teams, Wales have | :16:01. | :16:05.
won on just 14 occasions. It is not the healthiest of records, and there | :16:06. | :16:09.
is more than usual riding on this one. But, with Wayne Hennessey | :16:10. | :16:14.
Bactrian today, the squad fully fit, the manager is not thinking of the | :16:15. | :16:20.
past and is keen to concentrate on football alone. As soon as the | :16:21. | :16:23.
whistle goes tomorrow, both teams will be at it. It will be a typical | :16:24. | :16:27.
British game, I should imagine, physical and aggressive. There is | :16:28. | :16:31.
quality in both teams. I am looking forward to a good game of football | :16:32. | :16:35.
tomorrow. Once the whistle goes, it doesn't matter what anybody said we | :16:36. | :16:39.
will just get down to business. The mind games have been ongoing this | :16:40. | :16:43.
week. Wales is a better team, says Alan Ramsey. Wales have more | :16:44. | :16:47.
passion, according to Gareth Bale. Today, the England camp reacted. We | :16:48. | :16:52.
are perfectly satisfied with the passion we bring to our games, and | :16:53. | :16:57.
we don't have any doubt ourselves about our passion and desire and our | :16:58. | :17:01.
commitment. We wish to do well in the tournament, and if other people | :17:02. | :17:05.
have another opinion and think they are better at it, that is fine by | :17:06. | :17:09.
me, but it is not something that I really believe is worthy of comment, | :17:10. | :17:15.
if I am to be brutally honest. England qualified for this | :17:16. | :17:20.
tournament by winning all ten games and Captain Wayne Rooney is still | :17:21. | :17:22.
amongst the favourites in the accommodation. Having said that, | :17:23. | :17:26.
they have not had the perfect start here in France. Despite an assured | :17:27. | :17:29.
performance against Russia on Saturday, they settled with a draw, | :17:30. | :17:35.
which leaves them third. Group B is wide open tonight with Wales and | :17:36. | :17:38.
Slovakia equal on three points after they beat Russia this afternoon. Oh, | :17:39. | :17:48.
how well directed! Mark Hughes's strike in 1984 secured a 1-0 win | :17:49. | :17:55.
over England. It is over 30 years since Wales were last victorious | :17:56. | :17:57.
over their neighbours. The captain on that date field it is time for a | :17:58. | :18:01.
change of fortune. Memories of 85, we won the game 1-0. Him and Alan | :18:02. | :18:10.
Davies made the debuts last night. It is always a tough game and you | :18:11. | :18:16.
always need a bit of luck and I think luck is with us. I can see a | :18:17. | :18:21.
result. Since that 1984 win, England have not conceded a goal against | :18:22. | :18:26.
Wales, winning all four matches. That, by now, is history and Chris | :18:27. | :18:30.
Coleman's men are here to create a bit of their own. | :18:31. | :18:35.
It is difficult to exaggerate the magnitude of this game. It is Wales | :18:36. | :18:39.
against England, but it is the European Championships for a place | :18:40. | :18:43.
in the last 16 up for grabs. Chris Coleman has urged his players to | :18:44. | :18:46.
keep their emotions in check, play the game not the occasion. That may | :18:47. | :18:50.
