Tonight's headlines: For the first time, the Prime Minister and Wales'

:00:00.:00:07.

First Minister appear together to campaign for the same cause -

:00:08.:00:10.

And police use tear gas on football supporters in Lille.

:00:11.:00:15.

Thousands of Welsh fans are gathering in the city.

:00:16.:00:32.

The Prime Minister, David Cameron, and First Minister Carwyn Jones have

:00:33.:00:36.

joined forces in Cardiff to urge voters to back

:00:37.:00:39.

The Leave side described it as yet another stage-managed event.

:00:40.:00:46.

Here's our political editor, Nick Servini.

:00:47.:00:49.

Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen.

:00:50.:00:50.

Putting differences aside, they're usually miles apart on many

:00:51.:00:55.

issues, but it was all forgotten today as David Cameron

:00:56.:00:59.

and Carwyn Jones stood shoulder to shoulder on the same

:01:00.:01:03.

They made their pitch and answered questions from call centre staff

:01:04.:01:09.

It wasn't the toughest crowd with no mention of immigration,

:01:10.:01:15.

for example, and at times, the two men were jovial.

:01:16.:01:19.

But the claims were serious as they made their case to remain

:01:20.:01:23.

in terms of potential benefits, for security, cheaper energy bills,

:01:24.:01:28.

but time and time again, they returned to the economy.

:01:29.:01:32.

When Labour and Conservative politicians are prepared to stand

:01:33.:01:35.

together on an issue, together with Greens

:01:36.:01:38.

and Liberal Democrats and trade unionists and businesses

:01:39.:01:40.

and voluntary bodies, I don't see that as some

:01:41.:01:43.

I see that as a reason really to listen.

:01:44.:01:48.

58 years where we were on the sidelines, in the crowd

:01:49.:01:52.

shouting when no-one took any notice of us,

:01:53.:01:54.

when we had no influence at all on what was happening

:01:55.:01:57.

in the European tournament, and now we're there.

:01:58.:01:59.

And the same thing applies for the referendum next week.

:02:00.:02:03.

Leave campaigners dismissed it as yet another stage-managed event.

:02:04.:02:07.

Their constant deluge of prophecies of doom,

:02:08.:02:11.

of putting fear in people because the world will come

:02:12.:02:16.

to an end if they vote to leave, are not being believed

:02:17.:02:19.

This wasn't the only time today for the Conservatives and Labour

:02:20.:02:25.

The current Chancellor, George Osborne, and the former

:02:26.:02:30.

Labour Chancellor, Alistair Darling, warned how taxes would rise

:02:31.:02:34.

and public spending could be cut in the event of a Brexit.

:02:35.:02:38.

But 57 Conservative MPs have signed a joint statement saying they would

:02:39.:02:43.

There is desperation on both sides, and I've already said there's

:02:44.:02:50.

It was unprecedented to see the leader of the Conservative Party

:02:51.:02:58.

and the leader of Welsh Labour agreeing on so much.

:02:59.:03:01.

They did it in one of Wales' biggest call centres.

:03:02.:03:05.

The question is whether anyone's listening at this late

:03:06.:03:07.

A former soldier from Llanelli has died after being Tasered by police.

:03:08.:03:14.

The 43-year-old man, Spencer Beynon, was well known

:03:15.:03:16.

for his community work in the town but friends say he had

:03:17.:03:20.

Eyewitneses say he stabbed himself and a dog with a knife.

:03:21.:03:25.

Welcomed home from Iraq a hero, Spencer Beynon, a former member

:03:26.:03:32.

of the Royal Welsh Regiment, served in the Army for 15 years.

:03:33.:03:37.

He told this programme how tough duty there had been.

:03:38.:03:42.

There were certain times were it was a very scary place to be

:03:43.:03:46.

at that time, and obviously, us being professional in what we do,

:03:47.:03:50.

we just continued with the operation in hand.

:03:51.:03:53.

Friends say military life took its toll.

:03:54.:03:56.

He was later diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.

:03:57.:04:01.

Police were called here by a member of the public who was concerned for

:04:02.:04:05.

the welfare and about the behaviour of a man who appeared to be injured.

:04:06.:04:09.

We are told that during an engagement, a Taser was discharged.

:04:10.:04:14.

He was a regular at this gym and here and in the town well-known

:04:15.:04:18.

I know that he set up a watch, just to make sure that children

:04:19.:04:24.

were getting home safely during summer holidays and things.

:04:25.:04:28.

He was a pillar of the community and I would say he was quite

:04:29.:04:32.

selfless, he would do anything for anybody.

:04:33.:04:33.

The police have referred the case to the IPCC,

:04:34.:04:37.

Following Slovakia's game with Russia, supporters were seen

:04:38.:04:45.

running through the streets before officers attempted to disperse them

:04:46.:04:47.

50,000 fans from Wales and England are expected here ahead of their

:04:48.:04:52.

Clashes between police and fans tonight on the streets and Lille.

:04:53.:05:01.

As thousands from the stadium spilled back into the city,

:05:02.:05:03.

At the moment, the police are just gathered here.

:05:04.:05:08.

It's unclear what's happening but there was a loud bang

:05:09.:05:11.

and a big rush of fans down one of the main roads,

:05:12.:05:14.

and they seem to have moved round here.

:05:15.:05:15.

You can see that the police are quick to respond.

:05:16.:05:18.

It's just finding out what's going on.

:05:19.:05:20.

Just before, a large number of England fans gathered in the bars

:05:21.:05:23.

of one of the squares, goading Russian fans

:05:24.:05:25.

And as always, there are plenty of police to watch the performance.

:05:26.:05:31.

In preparation for any trouble, there are an extra 4000 officers

:05:32.:05:34.

Around 350 bars will close earlier than normal,

:05:35.:05:39.

In the fan zone, which can hold 30,000, they are serving

:05:40.:05:44.

Authorities have also banned the sale of alcohol

:05:45.:05:48.

in shops or supermarkets, but that is proving

:05:49.:05:51.

I think any city in the world who has introduced that type

:05:52.:05:56.

of licensing legislation, within a matter of hours and a city

:05:57.:06:02.

the size of Lille, to try and police that 100%,

:06:03.:06:06.

But the Football Supporters Federation, which has already met

:06:07.:06:10.

with French police and Uefa security advisers, isn't convinced

:06:11.:06:13.

I don't know how they could impose that anyway with so many

:06:14.:06:18.

You've got the fan zones selling beer, you've got

:06:19.:06:22.

There are just too many outlets to sell alcohol and it would be

:06:23.:06:28.

What people need to bear in mind, they say alcohol fuels violence,

:06:29.:06:33.

this is premeditated violence by hooligans who are not drinking.

:06:34.:06:39.

The police have been quick to respond to any

:06:40.:06:41.

disturbances tonight, releasing tear gas to instantly

:06:42.:06:42.

disperse the rising crowds, but they may well be

:06:43.:06:46.

A mother from Rhondda Cynon Taff has admitted causing or allowing cruelty

:06:47.:06:53.

Chloe Thomas originally denied neglecting her toddler, Finley.

:06:54.:07:00.

A court was told he died from catastrophic injuries

:07:01.:07:02.

Her boyfriend, Sean Buckley, denies murder and has been giving

:07:03.:07:07.

From Cardiff Crown Court, Paul Heaney reports.

:07:08.:07:13.

The prosecution says Finlay Thomas had injuries that should not

:07:14.:07:17.

From his home here near Tonypandy, he was taken by ambulance

:07:18.:07:24.

His mother, Chloe Thomas, seen here at an earlier hearing,

:07:25.:07:31.

Today in court, shaking and crying, she changed her plea,

:07:32.:07:38.

admitting for the first time to causing or allowing cruelty.

:07:39.:07:41.

Her boyfriend, Sean Buckley, denies murdering the toddler.

:07:42.:07:46.

Sean Buckley told the court today he had a good relationship

:07:47.:07:49.

with Finlay, and repeatedly denied doing anything

:07:50.:07:52.

He said he was aware that he had fallen down the stairs two

:07:53.:07:57.

or three times before, but he had never seen

:07:58.:08:00.

He was extremely upset as he described finding

:08:01.:08:04.

Finlay at the bottom of the stairs the day he died.

:08:05.:08:07.

"I tried to pick up and put on his feet", he said,

:08:08.:08:10.

A 41-year-old man, who's admitted killing his landlord,

:08:11.:08:19.

has been giving evidence in his trial.

:08:20.:08:21.

David Craig Ellis denies murdering 59-year-old Alec Warburton.

:08:22.:08:25.

He told Swansea Crown Court that Mr Warburton had asked him to give

:08:26.:08:28.

Mr Warburton had been missing from his home in Swansea since July

:08:29.:08:34.

when his body was found in Conwy in September.

:08:35.:08:39.

More than two thirds of Assembly Members have

:08:40.:08:41.

signed a letter to the BBC Director General, Tony Hall,

:08:42.:08:43.

demanding he is specific about how much extra money he intends

:08:44.:08:46.

In 2014, Lord Hall told an audience in Cardiff that English-language

:08:47.:08:52.

television programming in Wales had been eroded and he subsequently said

:08:53.:08:56.

he planned to allocate additional funding to the nations.

:08:57.:09:02.

The most rare species of animal, bird and plant in Wales are to be

:09:03.:09:05.

assigned an Assembly Member each to champion their cause.

:09:06.:09:09.

It follows a similar scheme undertaken by members

:09:10.:09:12.

From dormice to dolphins, 60 examples of the most threatened

:09:13.:09:17.

wildlife in Wales will be paired with a politician.

:09:18.:09:19.

Our environment correspondent, Steffan Messenger, has the details.

:09:20.:09:30.

Meet the water vole, one of Wales's rarest animals. A new scheme means

:09:31.:09:37.

it has its own Assembly Member. Every introduction Project in John

:09:38.:09:43.

Griffiths's constituency has seen the furry creature make a comeback.

:09:44.:09:50.

Whatever aspect of nature we use to engage with people is really

:09:51.:09:58.

valuable to get key messages across. 60 of our most threatened animals,

:09:59.:10:02.

birds and plants will be paired with politicians as part of the species

:10:03.:10:07.

champion programme. They will offer an information and opportunities to

:10:08.:10:11.

take part in conservation work. But it's more than just a gimmick. The

:10:12.:10:15.

Assembly members have a particular important role to play when it comes

:10:16.:10:21.

to nature conservation. Wales has international targets to hit around

:10:22.:10:25.

reducing habitat and wildlife loss by 2020. That includes seeing a

:10:26.:10:31.

marked recovery in numbers of threatened species like the

:10:32.:10:35.

dormouse, wiped out in parts of England. In Wales, they will be

:10:36.:10:44.

championed by this man. We know from a report launched a couple of years

:10:45.:10:48.

ago that we are losing 60% of the species in the UK with almost one in

:10:49.:10:53.

ten species at the point of extinction. Most people did not know

:10:54.:10:58.

about that and that is why we need a champions to highlight their plight

:10:59.:11:02.

and help the government reversed the trends in their decline. The

:11:03.:11:06.

charities say a similar scheme in the Scottish Parliament has put more

:11:07.:11:10.

of a focus on nature within politics. They hope the Welsh

:11:11.:11:13.

Assembly can now follow Scotland's tracks.

:11:14.:11:14.

The iconic steam train The Flying Scotsman attracted crowds

:11:15.:11:17.

of over five 500 people at Llandudno Junction today,

:11:18.:11:19.

Enthusiasts gathered to watch the famous train pass

:11:20.:11:23.

through on its way from Crewe to Holyhead with a 20-minute stop

:11:24.:11:27.

giving plenty of opportunities for photos.

:11:28.:11:40.

Greetings. More dramatic with other parts of Wales today. Thunderstorms,

:11:41.:11:48.

pale and flash flooding in places. But some places stayed dry and

:11:49.:11:55.

sunny. The thunderstorms are now dying down. Still a few showers

:11:56.:11:59.

around overnight but most places becoming dry with temperatures

:12:00.:12:03.

staying in double figures. For tomorrow morning, most places. Try,

:12:04.:12:08.

Brighton parts of the West, sunshine, but if you showers around

:12:09.:12:12.

as well and more war brought during the morning telling had been places.

:12:13.:12:16.

Across the rest of the UK, heavily thundery showers will break out

:12:17.:12:21.

across England, torrential downpours in places, but they will be hit and

:12:22.:12:25.

miss, if you spots will stay dry and sunny.

:12:26.:12:41.

Northern Ireland and Scotland, cloudy and cool, spots of rain and

:12:42.:12:45.

drizzle, most of the rain in north-east sock Scotland. There is a

:12:46.:12:47.

Met Office warning in force for more heavy downpours and thunderstorms

:12:48.:12:49.

tomorrow. Torrential rain in places. Parts of the North and west likely

:12:50.:12:53.

to stay dry. A top temperature of 20 Celsius. Over to France now and the

:12:54.:12:59.

weather tomorrow, heavy showers, maybe a thunderstorm, the high 19

:13:00.:13:05.

Celsius. On Friday, dry weather and sunshine, a few showers breaking

:13:06.:13:10.

out, most in the south. And good news for the weekend. Better weather

:13:11.:13:14.

on the way, turning dry and more settled. The best of the sunshine

:13:15.:13:18.

likely on Saturday and feeling fresher.

:13:19.:13:19.

And don't forget, we'll have all the build-up to the Wales'

:13:20.:13:22.

England Euro 2016 game throughout the day tomorrow and there'll be

:13:23.:13:25.

reaction to the result live from Lens at 6:30pm.

:13:26.:13:27.

For now, from all of us here, good night.

:13:28.:13:33.
