Welcome to Wales Today, live from Tolouse on the night

:00:00.:00:00.

Grateful, Ramsay in here. Celebrations as Wales through to the

:00:07.:00:27.

last 16, emphatically beating Russia 3-0.

:00:28.:00:29.

Labour's big guns take to the streets of Pontypridd,

:00:30.:00:33.

as campaigning resumes for the EU referendum campaign.

:00:34.:00:46.

Wales waited 58 years to be here, and tonight

:00:47.:00:52.

they have brushed aside one of European Football's superpowers.

:00:53.:00:54.

Wales have done it in style, beating Russia 3-0 and topping their group.

:00:55.:00:57.

They're through to the last 16 in Paris on Saturday.

:00:58.:01:03.

We'll discover who'll they'll face over the next two days.

:01:04.:01:05.

It's a night fans will never forget - tonight

:01:06.:01:08.

They'd waited 58 years to see their team appear in a major championship.

:01:09.:01:23.

That team has not only reached the last extreme, but have done so in

:01:24.:01:28.

dial. Wales confidently beating Russia in the final group game in to

:01:29.:01:35.

loose. Fantastic. Better than we could have imagined. An incredible

:01:36.:01:40.

game. I never thought we would win 3-0, unbelievable. To win the group

:01:41.:01:47.

as well. Absolutely fantastic. The best game we've ever seen.

:01:48.:01:52.

Absolutely fantastic, what a result. I could never have imagined that. It

:01:53.:01:58.

was a perfect start. Wales playing at a high tempo with Joe Allen

:01:59.:02:02.

pulling the strings. His defence splitting pass gave Alan Ramsey --

:02:03.:02:10.

Aaron Ramsey the chance to score his 11th International goal. Fans of the

:02:11.:02:14.

Cardiff fan zone got the party started. Gareth Bale's deflected

:02:15.:02:20.

shot dropped to Neil Taylor's power. They needed two goals, but double

:02:21.:02:25.

the country's lead. Back home, supporters in a frenzy. The rest of

:02:26.:02:32.

the first half was just as frantic. Wales attacking at every opportunity

:02:33.:02:35.

with Gareth Bale coming close on more than one occasion. The early

:02:36.:02:42.

goal was brilliant. What a half, phenomenal. Ack in France, Russia

:02:43.:02:48.

were outclassed. With Wales rampaging towards goal and Ramsay in

:02:49.:02:53.

the thick of it, it was only a matter of time until Gareth Bale's

:02:54.:03:04.

name was added to the scoresheet. An incredible, emotional and

:03:05.:03:11.

comfortable win. Wales 3-0 Russia. Supporters in red have contributed

:03:12.:03:15.

so much to this campaign so far. The atmosphere here this evening is

:03:16.:03:20.

incredible. With England drawing withstood wackier, Chris Coleman's

:03:21.:03:26.

men top the group and now face a Saturday last 16 games in Paris. --

:03:27.:03:29.

England drawing with Slovakia. The manager himself has said that

:03:30.:03:43.

was the best performance from any Wales team.

:03:44.:03:46.

Put this into context for us, how significant is this result?

:03:47.:03:53.

Wales' football fans have endured years of failures and near misses.

:03:54.:03:59.

We all know they've waited 58 years to play at a major tournament -

:04:00.:04:02.

It disproves the myth that Wales are a one man team,

:04:03.:04:11.

the patronising view that it's Gareth Bale and ten others who are

:04:12.:04:14.

Because, now, Wales have four different goal-scorers

:04:15.:04:17.

A word about Neil Taylor, scorer of the second goal,

:04:18.:04:23.

his previous and only goal was for Wrexham

:04:24.:04:27.

against Grays Athletic in the Conference six years ago.

:04:28.:04:31.

It only goes to show how far Welsh football has come in just

:04:32.:04:35.

Rival camps in the EU referendum debate claim they each have

:04:36.:04:52.

momentum on their side, as campaigning in Wales

:04:53.:04:55.

resumed after the death of the Labour MP, Jo Cox.

:04:56.:05:02.

Welsh Labour's biggest players were out in Pontypridd trying

:05:03.:05:06.

Vote Leave campaigners claim there's a shift in mood in its direction

:05:07.:05:12.

Here's our Political Editor, Nick Servini.

:05:13.:05:18.

The big beasts of Welsh Labour hit the streets of Pontypridd

:05:19.:05:21.

to try to persuade voters in the South Wales Valleys

:05:22.:05:24.

Wearing white roses in memory of the Labour MP, Jo Cox,

:05:25.:05:28.

And there wasn't much peace for these coffee drinkers

:05:29.:05:35.

as they were lent on by the First Minister, Carwyn Jones,

:05:36.:05:38.

his predecessor and a pair of former Welsh Secretaries.

:05:39.:05:41.

Would you be voting to stay in Europe?

:05:42.:05:47.

The big focus for Labour is now in the Valleys, because not enough

:05:48.:05:52.

Too many are ignoring the wishes of the party's leadership

:05:53.:05:58.

and considering a Leave vote because of concerns about immigration.

:05:59.:06:03.

The campaign's been difficult, there's no question about that.

:06:04.:06:05.

Particularly in the South Wales Valleys, where there has been quite

:06:06.:06:08.

My impression today, walking around this town

:06:09.:06:16.

of Pontypridd, is that there is a definite change

:06:17.:06:18.

of mood and there is now, I think, a trend towards Remain.

:06:19.:06:21.

Pontypridd is, of course, a safe Labour seat.

:06:22.:06:23.

But it is a striking feature of the referendum campaign that

:06:24.:06:26.

areas that are not used to tight political contests

:06:27.:06:29.

like the South Wales Valleys find themselves right

:06:30.:06:33.

Leave campaigners have renewed their claims that the Brexit

:06:34.:06:39.

would not leave to a reduction in financial support

:06:40.:06:42.

In fact, they say Wales could have extra money in the event of a Leave.

:06:43.:06:50.

We've had ministers who are part of the Leave campaign who've made

:06:51.:06:54.

categorical confirmation that when you do leave the EU,

:06:55.:07:02.

Welsh farmers will continue to get the money that they receive.

:07:03.:07:05.

And all the money that the EU has promised to Wales until 2020,

:07:06.:07:08.

On Wales Today earlier, the First Minister argued the case

:07:09.:07:14.

for Remain on economic grounds, while the leader

:07:15.:07:17.

of the Welsh Conservatives said leaving was the only way to control,

:07:18.:07:20.

We've just had unemployment figures where we are lower than England,

:07:21.:07:28.

Every single investor that's come to Wales has seen Wales as a base

:07:29.:07:33.

Unless we can guarantee access to the European market,

:07:34.:07:36.

They'll go to Ireland, they'll go to France, to Germany.

:07:37.:07:40.

And the ones that are here, all you have to look at is what Ford

:07:41.:07:44.

said today, what Nissan said today, they're worried about what's

:07:45.:07:46.

In some commnities, there's a very real problem that some people

:07:47.:07:51.

have experienced day in, day out.

:07:52.:07:53.

In other communities, it's a perceived problem.

:07:54.:07:54.

But there is an issue over the national government's ability

:07:55.:07:57.

There is an issue over the national government's ability to control red

:07:58.:08:01.

And if we want to bring back that control to Westminster, then we need

:08:02.:08:05.

to vote Leave on Thursday and ultimately take back control.

:08:06.:08:08.

They'll be many more conversations like these on both

:08:09.:08:10.

sides as the final flurry of campaigning gets underway.

:08:11.:08:23.

You can get more information on the referendum campaign in Wales on the

:08:24.:08:31.

BBC News website. Follow the links to the EU referendum page.

:08:32.:08:34.

Welsh MPs and peers were among those who returned to Westminster to pay

:08:35.:08:38.

tribute to Labour MP Jo Cox, who died after being shot

:08:39.:08:41.

and stabbed in her West Yorkshire constituency on Thursday.

:08:42.:08:43.

Parliament, which was in recess for the EU referendum,

:08:44.:08:47.

was recalled to remember the 41-year-old who was described

:08:48.:08:53.

She once told me in a one to one meeting at Oxfam as my manager

:08:54.:09:00.

that she didn't do touchy-feely, and I was being too emotional

:09:01.:09:03.

Jo Cox would have said, "Don't moan, work.

:09:04.:09:10.

Organise and campaign for a better world."

:09:11.:09:14.

Two brothers, who were both teachers in Gwynedd,

:09:15.:09:24.

have pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children.

:09:25.:09:27.

Dr Robyn Wheldon-Williams pleaded guilty to eight charges involving

:09:28.:09:30.

over 1,300 indecent images and videos.

:09:31.:09:34.

His brother Dyfan pleaded guilty to three charges involving 40

:09:35.:09:37.

Footballer Ched Evans, who faces a retrial over rape allegations,

:09:38.:09:46.

has joined the League One side Chesterfield on a year's contract.

:09:47.:09:50.

The former Wales striker was jailed four years ago for raping a woman

:09:51.:09:53.

His conviction was quashed by the Court of Appeal in April.

:09:54.:10:00.

Nightly closures of the Brynglas tunnels on the M4 motorway

:10:01.:10:08.

Maintenance work will take place up to five days a week,

:10:09.:10:13.

Traffic will be affected between 8pm and 6am,

:10:14.:10:18.

Welsh Water has launched a campaign to highlight the dangers

:10:19.:10:25.

Last summer, there were 149 incidents where people attempted

:10:26.:10:31.

The water company has warned that under-currents and hidden machinery

:10:32.:10:36.

can drag the strongest swimmers under, but says the biggest danger

:10:37.:10:39.

The most at risk group are young men between 15 and 35.

:10:40.:10:48.

What happens is they believe they're invincible.

:10:49.:10:54.

They believe they're very physically strong swimmers.

:10:55.:10:56.

But all the evidence from people like the Royal Society

:10:57.:10:58.

for the Prevention of Accidents points to the fact that that group

:10:59.:11:01.

are the most vulnerable, and even they don't survive

:11:02.:11:03.

because of the temperature of this water.

:11:04.:11:05.

Let's see what the weather has in store - Sue Charles

:11:06.:11:07.

It's the summer solstice, though it didn't feel

:11:08.:11:12.

But after the heavy rain, it should turn dry overnight.

:11:13.:11:16.

That's because the front which brought today's rain

:11:17.:11:18.

Another is hovering to the north-west of the UK.

:11:19.:11:23.

But, in between, a more settled spell of weather tomorrow.

:11:24.:11:26.

Overnight, it will stay dry with clear intervals developing.

:11:27.:11:28.

Still some cloud around, holding up the temperatures in double figures.

:11:29.:11:34.

Tomorrow should start largely fine and dry, just the odd

:11:35.:11:38.

Then across the UK, where we saw those fronts,

:11:39.:11:42.

that's where we're most likely to see any showers.

:11:43.:11:44.

Northern Ireland, western Scotland and south-east England.

:11:45.:11:47.

For most of the UK, it will stay dry with the best of any brightness

:11:48.:11:50.

Cloudy later with south-westerly winds drawing in warm air.

:11:51.:11:55.

Top temperatures of 14 Celsius in the rain in the Western Isles,

:11:56.:12:01.

21 in the humid air across South East England.

:12:02.:12:05.

Later across Wales, some decent sunny spells with cloud around, too.

:12:06.:12:09.

Highs of 17 Celsius in Pembrokeshire, 19 in Wrexham.

:12:10.:12:16.

Midweek, we caught between these two weather fronts.

:12:17.:12:19.

High-pressure is trying to build, but a low pressure and fronts either

:12:20.:12:23.

side could bring some showers as we drag in humid

:12:24.:12:26.

The chance of a few showers developing, but sunny spells, too.

:12:27.:12:34.

Feeling quite humid as south-westerly winds

:12:35.:12:36.

Thursday is looking mainly dry with sunny spells,

:12:37.:12:44.

Similar on Friday with temperatures holding up

:12:45.:12:48.

The final word tonight from Tomos Dafydd on Wales

:12:49.:12:54.

Manager Chris Coleman has been facing the cameras in the last few

:12:55.:13:10.

minutes and he has said that as a nation we are geographically small

:13:11.:13:14.

but in terms of passion, we are a continent. Wales are making all the

:13:15.:13:18.

headlines because the top goal-scorer of the tournament so

:13:19.:13:25.

far, Gareth Bale with three goals. The top scoring team is Wales with

:13:26.:13:30.

six goals. We will see you in Paris on Saturday. Good evening.

:13:31.:13:32.
