Tonight's headlines: No change in the overall pass rate

for A Levels here, but concern that the numbers getting

And in Rio, defending champion Jade Jones from Flint

will go for gold at 2:00am in the Taekwando final.

Thousands of students in Wales are considering their future tonight

The overall pass rate is the same as last year,

but the number getting the highest A* and A grades is down by 0.4%.

Our education correspondent, Bethan Lewis, reports.

After years of work and weeks of apprehension the results are in.

It was a similar scene in schools and colleges across

For some, the letters on the page made happier reading

Students in Bridgend and Aberystwyth were amongst those

I needed three A's and I got A*, A and a B.

That is what I expected so I'm happy with that.

Not everyone will get the grades and the message for those

who are disappointed is not to panic and consider

Those getting results that this school near Bridgend were joined

by the Education Secretary, Kirsty Williams.

Her job will be to look at the results and work out

what the government can do to boost performance for everyone.

Over the weeks to come we will be looking very carefully

across all subjects and all centres that have had students sitting exams

to look to see what I can do and what the Welsh Government can do

and what schools and colleges can do to make sure we are on a trajectory

of improving the very highest pass rates in years to come.

The positives for the Welsh Government will be the good

performance in maths where Wales gets a higher percentage of top

In English language though it is less positive.

They may take a look at the drop in the numbers taking foreign

As well as A-level results, AS and Welsh baccalaureate results

With only a few envelopes left most students now know what grades

But for those concerned with the all Wales picture,

the drop in top grades will be of concern, as well as that stubborn

gap between performance in Wales and the rest of the UK.

As in Wales, the overall pass rate stayed the same across the UK.

The percentage of top grades was slightly down but the Welsh

figure is 3% lower and while many would argue that comparing with some

similar English regions is fairer, only the north-east had a lower

Issues for the politicians and policymakers but for

the students the focus now is on the next step.

BBC Wales understands police are investigating allegations

of fraud against UKIP Wales MEP Nathan Gill.

The claims relate to alleged use of European parliamentary funds

for party political purposes, such as election campaigning.

Mr Gill says he's not been contacted by police,

he's not aware of the allegations and will not comment at this stage.

Today, we have had amazing wind, we have reenergised

I can't even describe how happy we are.

So too are their family and friends who followed every twist

as they turned London 2012 silver into Rio 2016 gold.

I am so pleased that they were able to turn their results around

from London to get that gold medal position.

They have worked incredibly hard for four years and they have had

to sail out of their skins this week to get the results they have had.

The headhunter from Flintshire is also no stranger to memorable

Time to find out what the weather has in store.

Forget summer. We are in for a taste of autumn and by the weekend heavy

showers and strong to gale force winds and some rough seas. At the

moment it is dry and humid but it won't last. Rain will spread across

much of the country during the early hours. Further outbreaks of rain to

come tomorrow morning and a few heavy bursts of rain in places where

they south to south-easterly breeze. Across the rest of the UK rain will

spread north eastwards during the day. The far north of Scotland

staying dry. Behind the rain it will brighten up during the afternoon.

Some sunshine and heavy showers later. Cooler than today. Close to

home the rain will clear and the sun will come out. A few showers as

well. Rain in Pembrokeshire by evening with strong and gusty winds.

Into the weekend a deep area of low pressure on Saturday is not what you

would expect to see in August. We have a Met Office warning of gale

force winds in the south and west on Saturday. Plenty of blustery showers

as well. A few bright sunny intervals in the mix as well. On

Sunday the wind and showers will ease. It will be dry and bright for

a while but more rain on the way. We're back with updates
