Our top stories: A media scrum at Cardiff Crown Court

for the retrial for rape of former Wales international

And another day, another Welsh football coach fired.

This time, Cardiff sack Paul Trollope.

The retrial of former Wales international footballer,

Ched Evans, has begun at Cardiff Crown Court.

Evans is accused of raping a woman after a night out in Rhyl in 2011.

He denies the offence and was in court today having won

an appeal against his original conviction back in 2012.

The jury was told the alleged victim remembered "practically

nothing" of the night and was too drunk to consent.

Supported once again by his partner, Ched Evans is back in court to try

to clear his name once and for all. He started his professional career

at Manchester City in 2002. 13 Wales caps followed. In 2009, he signed

for Sheffield United for ?3 million. But in 2012, that Korea paused. He

and fellow footballer Clayton MacDonald were charged and stood

trial for rape. The jury at Caernarfon Crown Court acquitted

MacDonald, but found Mr Heaven is guilty. He served half of a

five-year sentence. But new evidence emerged, his conviction was quashed,

and a retrial was ordered. Ched Evans is extremely grateful

that because of appeal has ruled that his conviction for rape was

unsafe and should be quashed. For the first time in four years,

Ched Evans is playing professional football once again. For the league

one side Chesterfield. There is no prospect of Ched Evans going back to

jail. He has already served a custodial sentence as part of that

first trial, but he has always maintained he is innocent in all of

this, and that this retrial over the next two weeks, he will hope the

jury will agree. It is the prosecution case that after a night

out in real inmate 2011, Ched Evans' friend Clayton MacDonald took a

woman back to a hotel to have sex. But the court was told today that

Ched Evans also had sex with the woman in that hotel room. It is

alleged she was too drunk to be able to consent to sex with Mr Evans.

Prosecuting, the QC said, we submit she was so intoxicated, for whatever

reason, that she did not know what was happening. Sex without consent

the prosecution also told the jury that although Ched Evans was and

still is a well-known footballer, they should put aside any media

commentary or the views of anyone else during this retrial.

The cord heard that some comments, especially those made online, were

one-sided and often unhelpful. Councils here will be

forced to work together, pooling their resources

with neighbouring authorities to provide key services

like social care and transport. It comes after the Welsh government

dropped plans to cut 22 councils But there are concerns that regional

committees would add another layer of bureaucracy

and reduce accountability. Local authorities work together in

all sorts of ways already. What we don't have is a systematic approach

to it, and we don't have an approach where local authorities know that

this is required of them. It is optional, and it is very mixed, but

they do it, and there is no suggestion that this is somehow a

new tier of local government, or that you can't have answer ability

in it. Six members of staff have been

suspended at a mental health unit The action was taken

of staff over some Betsi Cadwaladr University Health

Another day, and another Welsh football club sacks its coach.

Today, after five months in the job, Cardiff City sacked Paul Trollope.

The Bluebirds are second from bottom in the Championship after only

two wins in 11 matches. Ben Price reports.

It has been three seasons since Cardiff City rubbed shoulders with

English football's elite, but with just eight points from 11 games in

the championship so far, a return to the Premier League is all but a

distant dream. It was all change once again at Cardiff City at the

start of the season. Enter Paul Trollope, once a coach at the club,

he was soon handed the top job back in May. This is a club with big

expectations, and so, an eighth place finish last year was not

enough to satisfy the bosses. So the new head coach promised to deliver

the goods. We are going to try and hit the

ground running. We're going to try to give the fans a team they are

proud of, and proud to support, and proud to watch.

But that hasn't quite happened. They aren't shocking position,

second from bottom in the championship.

They have lost six of their last seven games, having scored in seven

of the 11 championship games they have played in. It has not been good

enough, and looking at Paul, he doesn't look like a man or a manager

who can turn things around, so the club had to react.

Despite very little activity in the summer transfer window, some may

argue the current team has enough experience to get themselves back up

the table. It has been a tumultuous few years for the Bluebirds

faithful, both on and off the field. Since a change and a few years ago,

there have been fallout and protests over changes to club colours under

the big decisions. It has left many fans feeling fed up.

We have got a lack of experience, within the football world, on the

board. We have got people who have got good financial backgrounds, but

no football experience, and that has proved, you know, the way we were

rebranded. I think the coach has a lot to do

with the results, so unfortunately, I think some blame has to be had by

him. With an international break this

weekend, Cardiff now have ten days to find a replacement. The question

is, who will be ready for such a challenge?

The equally uncertain world of the weather next -

year here in Wales, but we're not expecting much of any rain this

week, with the emphasis being on a lots of dry weather over the next

few days. Breezy, and it will turn cooler over the next couple of days.

For tonight, plenty of cloud around, which may be thick enough for the

odd spot of drizzle, but no more than that. Dry for most of us. Eight

breezy night, and those temperatures around 9-11. Tomorrow's chart shows

a big area of high pressure over Sweden. This high is like a block of

air stopping weather coming in from the Atlantic, and the wind is coming

in from the east or Southeast, so tomorrow morning will be breezy,

with gusty winds ups blowing, maybe the odd spot of drizzle thirsting

and quite cloudy. During the morning, it will tend to brighten up

with some sunshine and much of the country dry. Across the rest of the

UK, it is a similar story, really. Many places dry, patchy cloud, and

Sunny spells. The best of the sunshine in the south and north west

of Scotland. Generally cooler than today, only 14 Celsius in

Scarborough, 16 in Plymouth, with a keen wind blowing from the east or

Southeast. Close to home, a fine afternoon tomorrow. We should see

more sunshine than we have seen today. A few patches of cloud in

Powys, and temperatures lower, 14-17dC, with that gusty winds from

the East or Southeast. Morrow evening, fine and dry, cloud will

spread from the East overnight, staying dry, clearing part of the

South and West, and a cooler night. Thursday will be a cooler day. An

easterly wind brings maybe one or two macro light showers to parts of

mid and North Wales, and maybe the odd one in the South as well. Then

on Friday, more dry weather. The best of the sunshine in the

south-west, no more than the light shower. So, fairly benign weather

over next few days. It macro thank you very much.
