Here, on BBC One, it's time for the news where you are. | :00:00. | :00:00.
In Wales Today, life for Monmouthshire | :00:00. | :00:00.
Georgina Symonds' family says her death leaves | :00:07. | :00:09.
And the biggest unions at Port Talbot steelworks say it | :00:10. | :00:16.
will be for workers to decide if they accept a new pensions deal. | :00:17. | :00:31.
A millionaire businessman from Monmouthshire has | :00:32. | :00:36.
been jailed for life, after being found guilty | :00:37. | :00:37.
54-year-old Peter Morgan strangled Georgina Symonds, | :00:38. | :00:44.
before disposing of her body in a barn near Usk. | :00:45. | :00:46.
The Judge said Morgan killed her "in cold anger". | :00:47. | :00:53.
Georgina Symonds' family say her death has left a hole | :00:54. | :00:55.
in their lives that will never be repaired and left her five-year-old | :00:56. | :00:58.
Today, her killer, Peter Morgan, was jailed for 25 years | :00:59. | :01:02.
for what the judge called a carefully planned | :01:03. | :01:04.
This is a tragic case that has resulted in the death of Georgina. | :01:05. | :01:11.
The actions of Peter Morgan were calculated and he committed | :01:12. | :01:13.
Hopefully this conviction will bring some closure to the family, in terms | :01:14. | :01:17.
But we are in no doubt that Georgina's family and friends | :01:18. | :01:21.
will continue to mourn and grieve for the rest of their lives. | :01:22. | :01:27.
Peter Morgan indulging in his passion for restoring | :01:28. | :01:29.
historic buildings in this video shown to jurors at his trial. | :01:30. | :01:31.
But just a few short years after the multimillionaire | :01:32. | :01:33.
rebuilt this windmill, his passions were redirected | :01:34. | :01:35.
towards the murky world of escort girls and exotic dancers. | :01:36. | :01:42.
The Usk workshop he'd once used for his windmill project where he'd | :01:43. | :01:45.
eventually dumped the body of 25-year-old Georgina Symonds. | :01:46. | :01:47.
But in 2012, going through something of a midlife crisis, | :01:48. | :01:52.
the married father of two started seeing escorts. | :01:53. | :01:54.
Georgina Symonds became the centre of his world. | :01:55. | :02:01.
For more than three years, he pampered with luxury | :02:02. | :02:04.
gifts and fast cars, took her on helicopter flights, | :02:05. | :02:06.
paid for full body lyposuction, and gave her an income of up | :02:07. | :02:09.
Holed up in the grounds of Pencoed Castle, she descended | :02:10. | :02:15.
into a spiral of drug and alcohol abuse, following the suicide of her | :02:16. | :02:18.
She became abusive towards Morgan, she threatened to blackmail him, | :02:19. | :02:24.
He put a covert recording device in the bungalow, | :02:25. | :02:28.
With the device in place, Morgan accessed the bug 514 times | :02:29. | :02:34.
between November 2015 and Georgina's death in January. | :02:35. | :02:36.
He could call it directly from his phone, he'd called it Isobel. | :02:37. | :02:42.
He would listen in to conversations in the lounge between Georgina | :02:43. | :02:46.
and her new boyfriend, Thomas Ballinger, for up | :02:47. | :02:48.
But the prosecution say one particular conversation enraged him. | :02:49. | :02:57.
He heard her saying, once he signs the bungalow over, | :02:58. | :03:00.
I'm going to London to work as an escort. | :03:01. | :03:06.
The court heard that conversation is a possible catalyst for the chain | :03:07. | :03:10.
The day before he killed her, Morgan was caught on his own CCTV | :03:11. | :03:15.
picking up equipment from a barn in his 4X4. | :03:16. | :03:17.
A note found by police on his iPhone was a shopping list | :03:18. | :03:20.
of what he'd need to carry out what the prosecution | :03:21. | :03:23.
called a premeditated and well-planned murder. | :03:24. | :03:24.
He admitted strangling her with a home-made ligature made | :03:25. | :03:26.
of bailing twine as he sat next to her on the sofa | :03:27. | :03:29.
He then placed her body in his car and drove her to his former | :03:30. | :03:33.
CCTV footage from this property was shown to the jewellery. | :03:34. | :03:37.
It shows Peter Morgan arriving here at Beech Hill farm | :03:38. | :03:39.
The prosecution say he made a secure package of Georgina's body, | :03:40. | :03:43.
using plastic sheeting and tape and they say the video | :03:44. | :03:45.
shows him removing her body from the back of his car, | :03:46. | :03:48.
bound and trussed up, and attached to a metal pole | :03:49. | :03:50.
to enable him to carry it into the barn. | :03:51. | :03:53.
At first, he told police he did not know where Georgina was. | :03:54. | :03:55.
But within hours, he was confessing to killing her. | :03:56. | :04:05.
I had the intention to kill her, didn't I? | :04:06. | :04:07.
The trouble was, once I'd sort of attempted to murder her, | :04:08. | :04:10.
I'd be in a hell of a lot of trouble for that, and she would | :04:11. | :04:14.
still have gone on and blackmailed me, couldn't she? | :04:15. | :04:24.
Peter Morgan had always admitted the killing but his defence said | :04:25. | :04:27.
he was only guilty of manslaughter because he was on the | :04:28. | :04:30.
Today, that was dismissed by the jury, who found him guilty | :04:31. | :04:35.
As her family continue to grieve, they say her death has left them | :04:36. | :04:39.
broken and devastated and no sentence will be long enough | :04:40. | :04:42.
There is some uncertainty tonight over whether a deal to guarantee | :04:43. | :04:51.
steel-making at Tata sites in Wales, including at the UK's largest works | :04:52. | :04:54.
The two biggest unions at Port Talbot say they will leave | :04:55. | :04:58.
it to workers to decide whether to accept the proposals | :04:59. | :05:00.
The deal would see changes to the pension scheme but would also | :05:01. | :05:04.
include a billion pounds of investment. | :05:05. | :05:11.
I think they feel that they are being a bit railroaded into it. | :05:12. | :05:14.
I spoke to quite a few people over the weekend who said we don't really | :05:15. | :05:18.
think this is a good deal but this is the only game in town, | :05:19. | :05:21.
to be honest, and it is giving a lifeline of five, seven, | :05:22. | :05:24.
At least it is giving secure long-term jobs | :05:25. | :05:27.
At Cardiff Crown Court three men have been jailed for a total of 90 | :05:28. | :05:36.
years for the murder of a 29-year-old man. | :05:37. | :05:38.
Dad-to-be Lynford Brewster was attacked and stabbed | :05:39. | :05:40.
Dwayne Edgar and Jake Whelan, both from Cardiff, and Robert Lainsbury | :05:41. | :05:44.
from Worcester laughed as they were handed life sentences. | :05:45. | :05:51.
A 69-year-old man has been jailed for 13 years for historic child | :05:52. | :05:54.
sexual offences committed over a number of years in Anglesey. | :05:55. | :05:56.
Robert John Parry from Trefor, appeared before | :05:57. | :05:58.
He will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life. | :05:59. | :06:15.
Unreliable mobile phone signals can be hugely frustrating, | :06:16. | :06:17.
so spare a thought for people who live in areas where | :06:18. | :06:19.
Now planning rules could be changed to help tackle mobile not-spots. | :06:20. | :06:23.
Changes have already been introduced in England and the UK Government | :06:24. | :06:26.
Mobile phone companies can put masts of up to 25 metres | :06:27. | :06:30.
in England and it's only now the Welsh Government | :06:31. | :06:32.
They then need to try and decide on their policy and then they need | :06:33. | :06:36.
to legislate in order to bring about those changes, | :06:37. | :06:39.
so I fear that Wales could be maybe up to 12 months behind England again | :06:40. | :06:42.
Last month Tesco opened in Aberystwyth, | :06:43. | :06:51.
and the next big brand store, Marks and Spencer, | :06:52. | :06:53.
But there are objections tonight to a proposed sign at the site | :06:54. | :06:57.
M bosses say 'food hall' is now a brand name and isn't translated | :06:58. | :07:02.
But Ceredigion councillors want all signs to be bilingual. | :07:03. | :07:12.
Although, it is one sign, it is very important in giving | :07:13. | :07:14.
an image of what M is about and as a main part | :07:15. | :07:17.
of the town, we would like M to put up this sign bilingually | :07:18. | :07:20.
and they will reap the benefits like other businesses in the town | :07:21. | :07:23.
Football and in the FA Cup, Newport County have failed to make it | :07:24. | :07:44.
through to the third round and a lucrative tie against Liverpool | :07:45. | :07:48.
after defeat tonight against Plymouth. It ended goalless after 90 | :07:49. | :07:54.
minutes. Plymouth were awarded two penalties in extra time. They missed | :07:55. | :07:58.
the first but made no mistake with the second. Time for a look at the | :07:59. | :08:06.
weather forecast now. Today was the winter solstice but | :08:07. | :08:10.
the weather not particularly wintry at the moment. If anything, it is | :08:11. | :08:14.
going to turn increasingly windy and quite wet over the next few days. If | :08:15. | :08:18.
we take a look at the map, overnight rain clearing, temperatures dropping | :08:19. | :08:24.
lower than recent nights. Falling close to freezing inland with fog | :08:25. | :08:31.
and mist. Tomorrow, any early mist will clear. A lot of dry weather but | :08:32. | :08:36.
a few scattered showers as well. Across the UK, the best of the | :08:37. | :08:39.
bright and breezy weather across southern and eastern England. | :08:40. | :08:44.
Showers more likely in the West. A chance those showers could be wintry | :08:45. | :08:49.
in the hills across Scotland. Feeling cold in those strong winds. | :08:50. | :08:58.
Showers easing later across Wales. Bright and blustery and feeling | :08:59. | :09:03.
cooler than recent days. Tomorrow night starts fairly calm but | :09:04. | :09:07.
overnight, winds pick up and a deep area of low pressure moves in. | :09:08. | :09:12.
Scotland will bear the brunt of storm Barbra but Northwest Wales is | :09:13. | :09:16.
in the warning zone. There will be some rain but the emphasis on strong | :09:17. | :09:22.
winds. A potential for travel destruction. These are the average | :09:23. | :09:28.
wind speeds for Friday. Gusts will be stronger. Heavy rain pushing in | :09:29. | :09:36.
from the North West. And then that system should clear on Friday night | :09:37. | :09:39.
into Saturday morning. Still very blustery. And then more rain and a | :09:40. | :09:50.
warning of strong winds overnight into Christmas Day. | :09:51. | :09:52.
From all of us on the programme, good night. | :09:53. | :10:01.
There's family tradition of difficult Christmases. | :10:02. | :10:04.
Ben dropping a frozen turkey on Mum's foot. | :10:05. | :10:06.
Put me down! No, we talked about this. | :10:07. | :10:09. |
